Because that’s the major issue to comment on at the moment….sigh
This whole update is designed to make small guilds untenable and have to join the mass conglomerate guilds that plague the servers already.
this has done nothing to increase the sense of community, in fact its made things worse. Now the only options we have left as small guilds is to let members join bigger guilds thus decreasing our influence gain and making the whole thing a farce.
if the idea was to make three or four huge guilds then kudos achievement made. But its a big middle finger to us smaller guilds.
Anet talks about game improvement but i don’t see any, just more of the same guff getting put in the game with every update.
Viable and useful guild tools would have been preferable to this rubbish.
This is their idea of “Guild Wars”. Guilds will fight for more members to do more missions.
Lol, the class is borked, why fix their gear boxes?
THIS!
They already have your money. They don’t need to care anymore.
And now we’ll need answers in the other threads.
well put
I asked in this thread the same question, ofcourse what’s important gets ignored until the thread numbers go through the roof.
Yep, the major concerns in this thread here, for example “not in the guild – no mission reward” are just vaguely confirmed by “pretty sure”, but there’s no comment whatsoever to address the issue at its core.
And now we’ll need answers in the other threads.
well put
Seriously, this is what really bugs me. There’s time enough to answer specific questions about the mechanics like “you can stack 5 of them”, but there’s apparently no time to answer the general questions about the whole design decision. I mean, a >600 post thread is not enough to raise concerns?
But at least there’s enough time to post videos of otters on twitter.
And now we’ll need answers in the other threads.
The costs in influence, per tree, are fine, but the idea that you have to do bounties before picking anything else doesn’t make much sense.
What makes L1 bounties so special that everyone simply has to do them in order to get other mission types they desire?
It does make sense. As of now, the bounty missions seem to crash the client for everyone in the mission. If this is full of critical errors, imagine what the other mission types must be like. It’s a virtual still working on it access gate.

I’ve been loyal to A-net, but if this is the case and no changes are incoming for this matter than I’ll make up my mind rather quick.
This will get wiped under the carpet, will not be changed or reverted and we’ll never hear any kind of statement from them. Like they did with all the other things they screwed up.
“But what if my guild is super small?” you may say? Not to worry—all these missions take place in the persistent world, which gives you the ability to rally people from the surrounding countryside and maybe make some new friends in the process!
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/leah-rivera-on-new-guild-missions/Guild Content – Read more about Guild Content updates in the recent blog post.
New guild upgrades are available.
The guild mission system has been implemented and includes the ability to earn merits.
Added new Guild Bounty, Guild Trek, Guild Rush, Guild Challenge, and Guild Puzzle mission types.
Added new personal rewards for participating in guild missions. These rewards can be purchased with commendations.
Banner art on existing guild upgrades has been updated.Even a solo player can take part in these missions. They just don’t receive merits and commendations.
You first need to able to unlock the missions. aka +30.000 influence
you don’t have to unlock anything. You just need to be in the area of some other guilds mission.
And we can’t stress it enough: You can help them, but don’t think you’ll get anything from it.
Small guild members – chat with a bigger guild and get some, kick in some teamwork and provide a bit of room for players who need a change (big vs small, busy vs quiet), before you know it the multi-guild system will start to making sense.
“I don’t want to adapt my gameplay” – well the rest of the players you don’t hear crying are all doing that…
And you don’t see the flaw that players are now forced to represent a big guild with at least on char just to participate in guild missions? And that big guilds will form with the sole purpose of guild missions and the rest of the time they will stay quiet?
No matter from what angle I look at this guild mission thing in its current state,…it just doesn’t work out.
Oh boy, this keeps getting better and better:
If you participated in the event to take the bounty down, you will immediately receive your personal reward for guild bounties for that week and your guild will receive completion credit for that target.
This makes it sound like any player participating will get 50 silver, the rare drops and a personal guild commendation, but only the guild that kicked the event off will receive a guild merit, correct?
No, you have have to be in the guild with a mission active. Sorry for the confusion, I wrote the whole thing from the perspective of someone who is trying to run a mission.
Does the person have to represent to get the reward, or just be a part of it?
Pretty sure you have to represent at the time the event completes at least.
“Pretty sure”…hearing this from a game designer…shouldn’t he know about this and not just be “pretty sure”?
On the german forum there’s a thread where a guild spend a whole lot of influence to get the bounty hunt missions now and when they started the mission the client crashed for everyone in the mission. So, apart from a poor design decision this patch also included a very bad implementation and QA. I don’t know if I should cry, laugh or both.
I’d love to see some guild statistics pre and post patch. How the guild/member distribution changed and how activity and earned influence changed.
GW2, “Play how you want”. So long as it’s Anet’s way you want.
you are not forced to do guild missions
This argument is SO invalid. I can understand that you don’t need to get a legendary. I can understand that you don’t need T3 armor.
And yes, I don’t need to do the guild missions. But the guild missions are not about optics or fame. They are new content. They are for the guild, to enjoy them together with the people I play with. And hiding that behind a barrier of grind…plain wrong.
I think we had enough comments from the players around the forum. What I want to hear are comments from the devs. But my thread for that got deleted. But I still have my hopes that we’ll hear some official statements about this issue. It’s just difficult to understand their decision.
Or am I alone with these hopes?
I know where you’re coming from, I also saw many other players’ posts. Nevertheless, I think it’s important we speak up; these forums serve to allow feedback from the community, so why not voice our opinions? The more comments from players, the more confidently Anet can assess the situation.
I tried that and it resulted in a message reminding me not to make staff call-outs on the forums. But as 12-page long topics with over 600 posts show: this is a major issue. They haven’t been keen on talking with the community (instead of the current method: talking to the community). We are not only players but also customers and I would love to hear the reasoning behind the decision and, if there are any, what plans they have to change it. And then they should discuss these plans on the forums. And not 4 days before the patch for it goes live. Before they start the first line of code for the change they should discuss it.
Been down that road, a call out seems to be the worst crime on the forums. On that note some staff feedback would be nice as it seems alot of upset players are speaking out on this update. The old saying: ( players make the game and can break the game). I am very discorded with some of directions this game has gone with, but time will tell if it fails our survives the blacklash of its player base. Seen that happen a few times in games.
It’s not just if it plays out in the end or not. If I feel like company and community are two strictly distinct things and the communication is one-way, then I feel less and less compelled to play the game. Ah, how I miss Gw1….
… are you serious?
So I guess what they decided not to mention was that you can do guild missions!…… if they’re the missions of a huge guild that can afford to start them. Awesome. Just awesome.
Hey guys, my guild of 10 people has finally gathered the 500,000 Influence needed to do these Guild Missions! Oh wait, it’s 2015 already.
By then I’ll hopefully be out on the street on my hoverboard.
… are you serious?

Bad decision. So especially in the first weeks we’ll have to rely on zerg guilds to be so kind and start missions so that us poor small guild folks my chime in. “Nah, we did your missions for the week. Don’t spend any influence points on these poor kittens. Let them earn it by themselves.” Horrible design decision.
I see nothing wrong with the new update….i just dont think arenanet explained it as well as they could have.
However, arenanet should have foreseen that other people would see a problem with this and would kill smaller guild activity a bit.
That being said, i have faith arenanet will rectify the problem a lot of people are having with guild missions somehow, most likely i think in the next content patch or the one after that.
Foreseen? They could have foreseen the kittenstorm if they had created this topic 1 or 2 months ago and not 4 days before the patch went live.

The 50k is just the start if I read this correctly.
You need AoW5 for Guild Bounty Unlock.
You need Guild Bounty Unlock + Econ6 for Guild Treks Unlock
You need Guild Treks Unlock + Politics6 for Guild Rushes Unlock
You need Guild Rushes Unlock + AoW6 for Guild Challenges Unlock
You need Guild Challenges Unlock + Architecture7 for Guild Puzzle Unlock.
Have fun, guys. That’s a lot of 50k chunks of influence right there.
That’s correct.

watch what you write, seems if you question the team you get the slap down, the slippery slope of this game has begun, like Rome all empires die in the blaze of wrong turns.
And it seems like they could use a navigation system as there have been tons of wrong turns lately.
I’m starting to feel like Gw2 is the longest and biggest troll anyone has ever pulled in the history of the internet.

That’s seriously their answer? Adds?
So much for revamping the boss fights to make them more interesting.
Adds aren’t interesting. They’re annoying.
And lolz, people pulled him down the stairs BECAUSE of his adds.
Now skipping him won’t become common. It’s gonna become tradition. lol
This post needs to stapled to the desk of every person who touches dungeons at ANet.
Not the desk. The forehead. Hands. Wife’s/Husband’s forehead. Mirror. Cat. Dog. Everywhere so they don’t ever forget.
I’d love to hear an official response to this decision but the thread I created to see if other people feel like that too, got deleted. Apparently, they just communicate one way. Eat it or leave it. Way to handle the paying customer.
What in kitten’s name do you have to smoke to come up with 50k unlock hidden in a PvP tree to unlock PvE content?
Its kind of like WoW 20man raids, guess what you need 20 people.
This is content made to give PvE large group content, sorry you cant do LARGE GROUP COMBAT with 5 people
and jesus christ quit whining about influence just FARM and BUY
Go to ORR and FARM 5g is so easy to get its ridiculous i cant believe people are crying they made content for big groups or saying they only farm 1g a day?!?!?! go to ORR loot, salavage, profit
Not everyone plays a class that can spam AoE attacks to tag every single mob in events. Makes farming for kittens. And didn’t they say it’s not about grind in the game? And now I have to grind to experience content?
By “plenty to do for smaller guilds” he means the normal content in the game that you don’t need a guild to do. Good job screwing the smaller guilds on GUILD content.
Yup, there is plenty for smaller guilds to do… like sit around and WAIT for 40 laurels before they can get 1 piece of ascended gear… OR you can jump ship and get 1 piece of gear per week. IF you play any alts (or just other builds) you have no choice really. Brilliant.
The laurels is really another kick in the groins for a lot of people. For me for instance, before I decided to quit – I wanted the endless Tonic + Cat pet + Acended amulets for each of my 8 80s ….. thats like nearly 2 years worth of laurels…I mean, seriously?
Yeah I stopped doing the dailies when they introduced the laurels just for the fact it was another grind-fest. Now with these guild missions just seems like a bad move on Anet’s part. We will see what happens though.
They are adding token after token, but hey…the game is not about grind. It may feel like grind when playing and sound like grind when you read about it, but it sure is no grind if they say so </sarcasm>
Are you serious?
Dailies are now “Pick any 5” instead of “Do exactly these 5.”
They’re less difficult now and more flexible.
Im not talking about difficulty. Im talking about time.
I just did it. Easy, yes. But took much longer than the last 60
days of me doing it. Get 3 skill points? Map completion already
for me, and Im not going to make a toon just for that. Run a
fractal? No thanks. kill xxx mobs in xxx zone? Even worse. All Im saying is that Im surprised things went in a more time consuming
direction.
Then just pick the other ones. You don’t have to do all 9. Pick 5 and leave the rest out. Kill 40 creatures in Plains of Ashford, salvage 10 items, do a JP, …
i get it. you’re mighty proud of this game — rightfully so! but then we move on to guild missions, and small guilds. your notification of the guild influence requirement to engage in guild missions was met with resounding dismay, at least on facebook. rather than acknowledge and possibly listen to what folk were saying, you immediately countered with “well, really, this isn’t so hard! all you have to do is find another guild and ally yourself with them!” pundits insisted that we could also “join” and “represent” large guilds in order to partake in guild missions — how does that help my guild?
Pssskitten….that would involve communication with the community. They are still at “b” in the dictionary. We have to wait until they get to the letter “c”. and look up “communication”. Linear search can be a cat.
So we have to rely on the mercy of kitten huge guilds to allow us to help with T3 missions? And don’t even get me started on the dev response…
If ANet had created this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/New-guild-missions-opinions-concerns/first let’s say…. 1 or 2 months ago and not 4 days before the patch, they could have figured out that 30k and 50k point barriers just to unlock it is a horribly stupid idea, especially for small to medium sized guilds. But hey, that would’ve been communication. Not their forte.
So, we should welcome our new era of “Zerg Wars – Bugs and Patches”
Let alone the additional 30k points to unlock it. Why not just leave the unlocking out of it? 200 points to activate it? Fine. But farming another 30k of points just to unlock it? That’s way too much and I can’t see any sense behind that decision.
Well, it’s not as if things like P2P have been invented, that could be useful for these things. And it’s not as if other games of this genre use similar systems….
I would have liked to see more buffs to weaker/caster professions
Yeah, me too. Instead they buffed the overpowered trio; Mesmers, Thieves and Elementalists! Ahahaha….
Buff to Mesmer? Where? Who uses Mirror?
And I bet my kitten on it that the new portal mechanic will be bugged as hell. “Oh, there was a small step blocking the way, forget your portal and die.”
Edit: my bad. I think I understood it wrong. I thought that there is no obstruction between entry and exit portal allowed. Mea culpa.
(edited by rootnode.9546)
Nice build. Care to share? ^^
If this is not ANet trolling us then I don’t know what the kitten to say anymore… LOL
You mean by taking time to create this instead of having a discussion with the community? Yep. Big time trolls
@ those that are not showing respect for the work being put into fix this:
The key is patience, this is a big beautiful game so enjoy the other aspects of it other than achievement aspect, in the spirit of playfulness.
Yes, l lost a lot of achievements as well but so what – I can wait for a fix. Why – because GW2 is a game, not RL.
Beating up people for doing their job is harsh, they are employees doing their best and were hired because they were smart enough to do the job. Everyone makes mistakes and mistakes are necessary to learn from to improve anything real or pixel.
Last part is the important thing. They don’t really seem to learn.
Yes, bugs happen, mistakes happen. And it’s not the achievements what’s bugging me. It’s how they seem to go about testing and handling.
Loot is still crap. Uuuuuh, a champion will drop a guaranteed blue? Awesome….not! At least give us greens for god’s sake!
If WoW or any other MMO stopped putting out content until they fixed all the release bugs then they would have never released more content. There are still bugs from release in every single MMO that I’ve played over the past decade+ and that’s quite a bit.
As a matter of fact…I’d venture to say that every single player game that I’ve played over the last decade+ still has bugs that were present at release. That’s just the nature of code people. Learn to adapt…it’s what separates us from the lesser animals.
I would adapt if it wasn’t for bugs that existed since day 1 and bugs that are just plain stupid and could have been detected by automated testing (see achievement bug). That’s sloppy work.
You can still adapt…don’t let the bugs stop you from doing so.
Report the bugs. Wait for a fix. If said fix doesn’t come in what you feel is an acceptable time frame and it makes the game unplayable for you then move on to something that might be more enjoyable. Adapt.
However, insisting (not saying you are personally) that all bugs be fixed before new content is release is not adapting…it’s being unreasonable.
Since day 1, the “clone on dodge” trait for the mesmer stopped working when you got transformed into ghosts in the Ascalonian Catacombs. It was fixed with the last patch. That’s several months for a bug that kills the core mechanics of a class in AC.
I’m not insisting that all bugs be fixed before new content. What I insist on however, is that mechanic breaking bugs and alike are going to be fixed. And what I insist on is better testing.
Current achievement bug – could have been detected by automated testing.
A few weeks back, when they adjusted the drop rate for dyes, the whole guild and party system crashed. How can a change in drop rate come to this? This seems like code hacked together in a hurry in a few parts. It comes down to the title of this thread. “Quality” should be the priority. Also, the handling with the community. They seem to have plenty of time to post fanart pictures on Facebook or boast about upcoming content. When it comes to talking to the community about a little heads up or talking about what’s maybe wrong at the moment and what not…they lack a lot.
So that’s one dungeon path out of three explorable paths, for one profession. That’s your example. And it means you’ll have one clone less some of the time. I see. This is just terrible. I mean, how could Anet have possible missed on mechanic off one fight, in one dungeon for one profession and not gotten around to fixing it. I mean, your mesmer is probably completely unplayable in that dungeon because of this. You probably haven’t even finished the dungeon. /sarcasm
Not only doesn’t this problem affect all professions, it doesn’t even affect all mesmers. It affects only mesmers that use that particular trait line in that particular part of that particular dungeon path. I’m pretty sure the things that have Anet going on things like culling issues that they didn’t expect, and bugged personal stories that prevent progress. As annoying as that is, and I’m sure it is, it’s hardly game-breaking and a terrible example.
That was one example and I didn’t call it game breaking, but mechanic breaking. If you pick up on personal stories being bugged, there are still some personal stories that are bugged since day 1. There’s just a plethora of stuff that is broken since release (and prior). But hey, look, we have some crabs running around on an useless island. That’s what I meant by priorities. The quality in that aspect is lacking.
The thing is: I care about the game. Played Gw1 from day 1 until the first beta of Gw2. But, if more bugs keep piling up than bugs that are being fixed, more and more people will tend to move on to more enjoyable things. It’s just that they need to go back to the higher quality work they delivered with Gw1.
And I didn’t say that everything comes down to sloppy work. But not having automated tests for stuff like the achievements, which is pretty much slapping the developer in the face and screaming for tests, yes, I call that sloppy work.
We: customers. They: should be the ones adapting. The only thing we can adapt to is to live with the bugs and other stuff. But if it keeps piling up…
So, maybe if ANet adapts, they’ll end up being a better company, to use your phrasing.
If WoW or any other MMO stopped putting out content until they fixed all the release bugs then they would have never released more content. There are still bugs from release in every single MMO that I’ve played over the past decade+ and that’s quite a bit.

You’re not the only one who thinks they just need to stop with the new content until they get their game fixed. This wasn’t even close to being ready for release, and it’s still got a partially-done feel and lacks a LOT of attention to detail that should have been in at release.
Quality is far better than quantity. There are many games out there to choose from (quantity). I want the good one (quality).
Sadly, this game is probably going to be set aside for a better quality one that may be released soon. Hopefully ArenaNet wake up and get some things done right, and with great care. Otherwise it’s never going to be the next super-MMO. Which is sad, because it could have been (and still could, but that hourglass is almost empty).
Step one: fix bugs and incomplete content.
Step two: when you DO release something, don’t break 3 other things (which seems to be the MO around here since launch).
ESO will be a very strong contender. Their only chance is to take their time, fix all the major bugs and come up with some innovative and well designed expansion.
Well, judging from this and many many other topics, all the player base active on the forums seems to agree on this. Bugged to hell, the official “beta” was more of an alpha and right now we seem to be in beta phase. Thing is…we can complain as long as we want.
Of course, something like Gw2 is not a small project. But they manage it wrong. Don’t throw money on new content and new features and produce more bugs, when there are still bugs that exist since the first beta event. And some of them won’t take longer than 2 minutes to fix. Priorities are kinda wrong.
It’s not even that funky…it’s just…integer sums. I’m starting to think the code looks like playing a warrior while coding: just smash your head on the keyboard.
What this achievement points loss, after a so called server maintenance / reset, further confirms to me it that Anet does much more ‘tweaking’ to the game during these periods than they let on.
This has an impact on players who have been or are trying to collect statistics on loot drops, ecto salvage rates, etc. This basically invalidates any probability assumptions derived from statistical analysis because the game is not even a natural RNG system.
It is more likely that Anet fiddles with a lot more game mechanics during server maintenance than with designated patches or content updates.
You have to take into consideration that just a few weeks ago they made big changes to the achievement system and over the next month and a half they are making even more and bigger changes to achievement’s too.
What could have happened was them putting systems in place that are going to be working with the update on the 26th. And all the achievements that got reset or bugged out are likely ones that they will be changing in those updates**. Yeah it’s annoying but it’s honestly not a huge deal.
That being said, the point that they make more changes than what they actually say is going on during those server maintenance’s is a good point and something a lot of people, myself included, probably never considered or put much thought into.
**If this is true and I’m thinking it is, that means we can look forward to new slayer achievements. One’s that go beyond 1000 kills, which seems rather shallow considering I had a lot of those complete within the first month of the game being released.
That makes it even more embarrassing. If it’s the case that they are doing a great deal of reworking the achievement system, they should have thought of more testing.
Sadly…anet’s QA with this game has been embarrassing since launch. If what I said is true it shouldn’t really be all that surprising given the history. We’re still playing though so I guess they’re doing something right, but still…
The only other company I’ve seen that had worse QA in their game was DICE with Battlefield 3/BC2.
The QA and the PR, both are very bad. And if this continues, I might end up quitting. I find myself playing less and less…they definitely did better work with Gw1

Our teams investigated the bug that occurred after Wednesday’s maintenance and is causing some Achievements to display incorrect numbers. We will be deploying a fix for this bug in the build for Flame and Frost: The Gathering Storm, coming at the end of this month. Thanks a lot for your patience!
Wait… are you providing us with information about something? Are you saying you will fix? And you are admiting Anet made a mistake?
There is still hope…
Don’t get your hopes up too high

Thank you. See, more of that and faster. But one note: it’s not just displaying incorrect numbers, the achievement is really set back. If it were just showing incorrect numbers, it’s affecting the total achievement points.
Will this fix also fix the bug with the Pumpkin Carver achievement?
And any chance to maybe get a post that explains how this happened? Would just be nice to know how something like this happens and gets through testing.

no reply from anet? ~_~
keep refreshing this page 2 days no respond no fix
