I pretty much agree with Vayne. The grinding is completely optional if you ask me, and rangers aren’t /that/ bad off as the forums say. In our guild we have some great rangers, one of them even helped me with my personal story. You just need to find good people to play with.
I agree with this. They should scale a bit better. When I’m in Queensdale and some calls that Behemoth is up there’s about 100 people there in mere seconds. And that’s in Ruins of Surmia, which isn’t a high population server.
Doing events when they spawn around you will also help you level. Even doing an event in a zone that’s lower level than you are will give you quite some exp. Crafting, gathering and mapping are great way to level. And your personal story is too. But that’s not for everyone I believe.
Yeah, it does that in dungeons too. And you can always go back to the other dungeons. After finishing story mode, you can do explorable modes which are harder that story mode.
Don’t worry, I never did a single dungeon before hitting lvl 80 and that doesn’t make the earlier ones less fun. In fact, I’ve done CM (lvl 40) twice in a row once. If you have a decent party it’ll be fun either way.
They should make the capitals more like Lion’s Arch in some way. They should change appearance during certain events and there should be stuff going on there that gradually changes the look of the cities. It would make them much more interesting to walk through.
Wait I need to arm myself with something. There done.
Tybalt and Trahearne.
I also grew a soft spot for Roxx after doing her missions.
No hate. Like. He’s on my list of favourite characters. Anet better not listen to everyone who wants him dead or I’ll get sad.
I love your Trahearne drawings! Is that askblog of Trahearne on Tumblr yours? The style looks the same.
Thanks! I’ll go look into Nordic sounding names for her.
That’s one awesome piece of art right there!
A guardian is a must in a dungeon party. There’s no denying it. Not sure about a mesmer. I’ve been our guild’s only mesmer for a while and they didn’t seem to need one before me. They’re both pretty fun to play. And they can use a wide range of weapons. I have both and I’m not regretting it.
+1 from me, this is one of the best ideas I’ve read on this site.
I’m a Mesmer on my main PC and I can tell you that mesmers level faster than necros. But if you want a scholar that can deal good melee damage go ele.
I’ve been thinking of creating a Norn for a while now, but I don’t get how they are usually named. So, how do you create an appropriate name for a Norn? (I’m going to make a female one, by the way)
Arkon, Sylvari aren’t ‘gay’ (the correct term to that would be homosexual, by the way, gay is just an older term for being happy) they don’t make difference between genders in relationships. It’s been stated in this thread before too.
I gotta say that although I didn’t get downed very much I found Braham’s story much harder than Roxx’s. I downed a couple of times during Braham’s story, and not at all during Roxx’s story. It felt unbalanced to me.
I don’t want Trahearne to die. I do want him to get more depth, better voice acting and a personal crisis because he completed his Wyld Hunt which took him over 25 years and he has nothing to do now. Which of course isn’t true. But I found this pretty lamp-shaded at the end of the story. He has no clue what to do next.
She just needs a new voice, she sounds too much like my female Sylvari, who I like much, much more.
Got stuck around a month ago doing Jade Maw and using Blink. I died and got un-stuck later, but it didn’t look like a place to get stuck so it was weird.
I’ve done a couple of dungeons with a thief in my party. I never had any issues with him at all. Or any other class. I guess it depends in the people you’re taking with you, not the class. I only run dungeons with guild members. Since everybody knows each other it’s much more pleasant.
I must confess that I too have been expecting a bit more from this ‘Living World’-thing than it is right now. I’d like to see more influence of the story worked throughout the maps. I don’t think that maps need to get overhauled completely, but if something big is happening you should see it in the world.
I also thought that, when I bought this game, my choices would influence the world. I understand that this is pretty hard to put into a game since everybody makes different choices, but take the event at the Wardenlight Tree in Caledon Forest, for example. If this event fails, why doesn’t the tree look more… Dead?
My favourite screen I ever made. It’s my desktop image and my FB header now. I wish I could put it everywhere.
This is my Sylvari with glow on full intensity. At some instances it’s so bright she could be a flashlight. I guess it depends on what colours you pick.
Female #6 for my Mesmer. It’s not a face I see a lot but it’s beautiful in-game.
Tybalt. He was too awesome to die.
You guys, I think you should not take human values to a non-human race, how humanlike they are.
I’ve been reading the ‘Trahearne is a poorly-written character’ argument way too much. Yes, he does have flaws, especially his voice-acting and the way he is inserted into the story. It happens too quickly and you barely know the guy. This is certainly true. But he is not poorly-written. He also does not take the character’s place at the hero-spot. He definitely does not pull a deux ex machina.
You, as commander, get to do all the cool stuff, you decide on what the pact does next and you do most of the actual missions. If you would be the marshal you would be doing all the boring stuff, as explained before in this thread. Would you play a character that does all the paperwork? This isn’t SimCity. I actually believe you keep your hero-status. You do things. You don’t sit on your butt. You go out there and fight.
About the deux ex machina. That doesn’t happen anywhere in the story. You might see his insertion into the story as one, but it theoretically isn’t. Because the only thing that changes is the character that tags along with you, not the actual outcome of the story. I agree that this could’ve happened a lot more smoothly but that doesn’t change the fact that he was about to pop up sooner or later and take your mentor’s place.
Don’t see this as a personal attack to any of you. I can see why you dislike Trahearne, he’s not really a likable character that much. He basically needs more emotion. But as a writer, I get really annoyed at arguments like these.
That’s adorable.
Most people I play with seem to dislike Logan, like Katzyn said. I personally really like Trahearne but I’m one of the only ones who does not see the problem with him. Except for his voice-acting, it doesn’t have enough emotion in it. But I dislike Jenna’s voice-acting too because it sounds too much like my Sylvari PC. Who is my main. I love her.
My personal favourite characters are probably Snarl Backdraft and Galina Edgecrusher. And Gorr. And Tybalt. And I might be forgetting some.
Actually, I believe that the Pale Tree talks about her branches if you visit the Avatar of the Tree with a character that is not a sylvari. She means the sylvari with these branches. That would imply that sylvari are part of the Pale Tree. Not reproductions.
I’ve done this Fractal a couple of times now, and even if I dislike jumping puzzles with a burning passion this fractal really fascinates me. What is the story behind it? It looks like some kind of broken Rata Sum, or something like that. Does anybody know about it?
I bet there will be more. And I am one who certainly hopes so, because I have really enjoyed my personal story.
This is pretty funny, and nice to listen to. Good job!
So far my favourite moment. Just strolling through Divinity’s Reach with my Sylvari and suddenly":
Honestly though Icarus, now you’ve got me thinking… Plats saps usually carry around nutrition, if I remember correctly, as well as pigments to colour the leaves. They also just keep everything hydrated…
Also I was wondering… Do Sylvari eat for fun or really eat because they need it? I always imagined them to live on photosynthesis…
I’m looking for this too! I love that tune.
Hey guys, I’m a lvl 80 Sylvari Mesmer and I did all the leveling without guild. But now I’d like to find one so I have more interesting things to do. Yesterday my brother was playing and I saw someone recruiting for a RP guild through chat but I forgot the name of the guild and person who was recruiting. However, this is exactly what I’m looking for. A guild that does RP-things. I’m also mainly a PvE player but I am interested in doing PvP and WvW even if I never did it before. If anyone here has a guild like this, whisper me in-game or post here! My in-game name is Sansari.
There is this piece of music that plays as fieldmusic in the Cathedral of Verdance which i really, really enjoy listening too. It sounds very upbeat, with ethnic drums being the most prominent sound. However, I don’t know what’s it called. Can anybody help me out?
I thought the Sylvari looked amazing, and their world did too. And I must confess they remind me a lot of a race I have created in my wip original story and this made them even more appealing for me.
This is amazing! I’m a chef in-game and I would love to recreate some food in real life. Would you be able to make a Lemon Bar recipe?
“This rose has thorns! And here they are!”
“I’m bleeding!”
“Oh, what’s happening?”
And lately the list has grown with the new, but much liked: “Maybe you’ll think twice next time…”
I do love my female Sylvari’s voice though, so I’m not really bothered.
I honestly believe we need cultural armor or hairstyles made out of tree bark.
And her friends. Sometimes. Most of it is pictures of he game on which she comments, but I might write out her complete personal story too when I’m done with it.
Oh, also open for roleplay, if you feel like it.
I play as a Sylvari Mesmer, and never had any issues until this part of my personal story. I am level 53, as the quest suggests, but I keep dying… The Risen Grubs are alright but as soon as the risen Krait arrive I’m basically screwed. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to get through this mission?
Last image I made of her. She changes looks almost daily though, since I like diversity.
