As much as people don’t want it to be, the majority of it seems to be more Peer Support than an actual support “division”. Not necessarily a bad thing as most things can be handled, but it’s sad to see those who are unable to get help due to severity of their issue.

Could very well be realtek drivers at play, try newer or older sound drivers to see if the issue is present with her drivers.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m all for that kind of change.

That kind of change is a milestone for the future, as people such as poor college students will be able to afford something that is worthwhile instead of settling due to lower budget. 100% for Mantle if it succeeds.

You dont get it right?
Intel is nearly at his maximum ST perfromance….
Just look what they did from i5 750 to i5 4670K or even to core duo
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ivy-bridge-wolfdale-yorkfield-comparison,3487-17.html
E8500 4.5Ghz is on pair with i5 3570K 3.4-3.8Ghz in ST (apps)
- optimized, lower power, better iGPU
iGPU will become co-processor in every task in future

I still don’t think you get it… This was about Mantle and misconception of what Mantle does for the silicon, not forcing 8 cores to work 100% load in a game that is not designed for such as you’ve previously mentioned.

I understand that you are currently the Mantle mascot, which is fine I suppose, but read up on it a bit more and take a read of the OpenGL extensions I posted. May help alleviate some things.

Bee, we see a demo and a single game. Regardless what AMD claims, we NEED to see how it pans out and develops… If you think it’s succeeded already, then I guess PhysX was a HUGE success in that case…. It LOOKS good, yes! But, we don’t know what this will turn into, which is why I say we have to give it time. PhysX is a good example because it was hailed by all the NVtards and in the end… well, we saw how that panned out. All I’m saying is wait for everything to settle, drivers/architectures/etc. to mature before jumping up and down shouting Mantle.

I am currently without personal 290x due to RMA (and don’t own anything but the 8350 in one of the test benches), but there is a LOT of misinformation floating around, and some of the stuff you posted in other threads about Mantle basically forcing 8 cores to be used on a 4770k???? That doesn’t make sense as for what Mantle actually does.

My honest thoughts on it are that Mantle is not the future, but assuming it succeeds, AMD will have paved the way for future API implementation in both the development side and engineering side.

It’s possible, I’ve skimmed over so many kitten sites after Mantle dropped. All I know is, if Mantle succeeds on it’s claims, it’s a bonus for consumers. Right now all I see is hype for a single demo and game, but at least the results are promising and hopefully this doesn’t end up like previous proprietary tech. That is an article far before Mantle’s launch…. We have real data now, and it’s not about the CPU, it’s about CPU-limitation in games. APU’s will obviously benefit most from Mantle, but Mantle is about the GPU segment offloading, not all about the CPU….

Nothing wrong with hoping for the best, but why don’t you give it some time before you keep up the fanboy charade. NVIDIA fanboys did this exact thing when PhysX first came around…… Know what happened to PhysX after it’s year or so of “appeal” wore off? (And despite how much NVIDIA said it would change the way we look at physics in games)

The current Mantle, is not quite what the public was told from AMD…. It is closer to how consoles work with the hardware via API. Difficult for me to explain, but basically it does away with abstraction layers as you would expect.

Btw, hate to burst your bubble with the BF4 references, but Direct3D via NVIDIA drivers performs better than Mantle using a 290x running on a 4770k :/ Which is why I said wait for data before jumping up and down, it’s all about optimization. If AMD optimized instead of searching for alternatives, this wouldn’t be an issue, same goes for all companies and drivers.

You might appreciate this reading though via NV’d new OpenGL Extensions,

You don’t get better, smoother gameplay by writing a game engine to support DX11 or Mantle… You get better smoother gameplay by optimizing the game. Deeeerrrrrrrrrrrp.

And once again, you can’t compare Guild Wars 2 to non MMOs.

He thinks Mantle will force cpus to run all cores at load…. Let him have faith on something that AMD said is open but leverages GCN architecture. We need to let Mantle develop and mature before praising to see how “open” it actually will be.

OP, it should take no more than 30min to build yourself, honestly. Otherwise buying prebuilt, say screw it and go Falcon NorthWest.

If you’re getting a 650ti for $110-120, you should just spend the extra $20-30 for a 7850. It’s a pretty substantial power increase for not that much money. 650tis are rather lacking in the price:performance department.

Only reason I said to leave the card if it’s a 1GB card is simply due to how CPU bound the game is and that the 9800GT is still able to play modern games (albeit not at max settings of course). If GW2 is the only game he plays I don’t feel a GPU upgrade would be most relevant. There is a PNY 650 Ti for $110 and that is without a mail in rebate, so $10 cheaper than the 650 on your list (who honestly does mail in rebates).

A GPU upgrade never hurts though when gaming is concerned, so a 650 Ti would certainly be a nice upgrade over the 9800.

My advice would be to upgrade all but the vid card assuming your 9800GT is a 1GB model (If it is a 512MB model, just sell it for what you can). A GTX 760 is FAR from needed in this game, much less for super sampling.

Otherwise, locx’s build looks good although I would change the 650 to a 650 Ti for the same price along with a WD Caviar Blue 1TB instead of a 320GB to have plenty of space to work within and still a decent price range..

Ultra is a well known brand, however, not particularly known in the best of light due to their regularly sub-par product. My normal recommendation is towards Corsair or Seasonic, with Corsair being the “safe pick” of the 2, especially with the CX builder series for low priced units.

Outside of that your list looks good to me.

Here’s a quick sample run:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2OvbA

If you live near a MicroCenter I would recommend picking up the 4670k from in-store, as it will be $180 instead of $230.

my aunt bought me a new pc but before i install gw2 on it i want to know if the pc will run it if not ill get my aunt to return it here is the specs and ty for feed back
Specs:
- Intel Core i7 4960X CPU
- 32GB 1866MHz Memory
- 3x SLI NVIDIA GTX 780 Ti 3GB
- Copper Pipe Liquid Cooling
- 240GB Corsair Neutron GTX SSD
- 1TB 7200RPM Storage HDD
- ASUS X79 Chipset Motherboard
- 1200W Corsair AX1200i PSU
- Blu-Ray Player/DVD Writer
- Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro

Your aunt spends $5,000+ for you to have a new pc that is pretty much top of the line (and copper pipe liquid setup at that…), and you want to return it because Guild Wars 2 (A game that is poorly coded…) won’t give more than 30 FPS? Only reason I have them is due to the apps I use for overclocking the cards I have, they just kind of come with them :/

Realistically though, I would say you might like Afterburner, it comes as one of the most recommended for overclocking and the OSD is rather light from what I’ve seen. So if you want to push your 7790 you could use AB to see how far you can push it You can choose everything you want it to display with relative ease.

More on the joking side of course, but I see so many people trying to tell others that GW2 will use no more than about 700MB VRAM, BUT, it will use over 1GB suddenly if you change certain settings such as SuperSampling. But, as you can clearly see that I made it clear enough in the video, that is not the case…. This is only running on a single monitor with High settings, nothing maxed to Ultra and no SuperSample.

I got bored, so much so in fact that I made this,
http://www.youtube.com/embed/JF2ICUz-IK4?vq=hd1080

That is a recording of the same GTX 680 Lightning I currently have for sale over at [H].

For amusement with a recent GTX 780 non-Ti card I purchased (EVGA GTX 780 ACX SC) for testbed purposes, I loaded up GW2 to see if perhaps something was screwy with either the AfterBurner software or perhaps the vid card sensor. I made this a few moments ago using Precision X’s RivaTuner OSD software, and what do you know…. Granted, this was while running through a town with people in it, but the point is that when you encounter a large group of people such as if you were running a train on field mobs (Worm, etc.) your FPS could take a dip to stuttering levels due to vram being unable to keep up.

Keep in mind the vid was made out of boredom, lol….

It’s still a lower-end card from the last generation. It’ll do well, sure, but it’s far from the best option, especially when you have the budget for more.

^ This, the 7790 is NOT a bad card by any means, but if he plans to play any other games the 7790 is pointless as GW2 @ 1920×1080 uses over 1GB for VRAM, unless you have the game settings turned down :/
Example: http://www.youtube.com/embed/JF2ICUz-IK4?vq=hd1080

Considering his thoughts were turned on to a GTX 760, I would say he wants more performance since a 760 has about double that of the 7790.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2IWVf

That build being shown, it does not have an SSD and I do not know your space requirements in regards to how much you need. The 1TB hard drive I included should provide a baseline, then you can scrape together about $100 and purchase a Samsung 840 Evo 128GB,

That will give you an SSD for operating system and core programs with a 1TB hard drive for everything else.

If you happen to live near a MicroCenter, they have great in-store only deals on processors.

Would HIGHLY recommend getting the cpu from MC if you have one near.

just because it doesn’t make sense to you doesn’t mean its not possible.

theses are my actual benches, i can do the same on my cheap mushkin SSD’s.

I have mentioned on this forum 20 times how to do it, but no one listens to me.

~futrureman

Oooooh, I didn’t realize you were caching it… That makes any bench test pointless with that enabled. That makes sense now though, so your 500MB/s cached is closer to 9GB/s, but only in cache. Seriously, I saw that pic and was so confused lol. I thought you came from the future with new product wanting to be heralded as the next Bill Gates

I think you may have a defunct port or sensor, lol. Those aren’t your actual speeds :/
Your actual speeds will be somewhere around 500MB/s~.

In fact, those speeds would not be possible on the SATA standard. You CAN achieve those speeds with a dimmdrive via PCI-E, but you have other issues lol. If that were a true reading, you broke ground with a revolutionary new SATA port technology along with building your own motherboard and portraying an SSD you built yourself that would be the fastest SATA SSD! And thus, I refer back to your name, Mr. Future Man. Quite frankly I don’t know what would be causing that .

How to Get 60 FPS?

No! Delidding has it’s advantages, but I wanted to avoid that, which is why I purchased 10+ 3770k chips to find one that clocked to my liking with low voltage, then sold the rest of the chips off.

Your VID is an identifier which does not change, each chip has a different VID. I think you meant to ask me what vcore I was using for 5.0, in which case my voltage for 4.5GHz I believe was 1.22v, past that I had to pump more voltage into it and at 4.9 I’m looking at 1.34v, I have to bump further for 5.0 but unless I’m doing a liquid nitrogen run with my Little Devil cpu pot, going past 1.40v is a no-no for me as that is where the chip will start degrading over time having it past 1.4. Will it kill the chip? No, but it will become more unstable with time. Oh, and in case you were wondering, I run 75% LLC (Ultra High).

That’s actually no longer correct, 4.9GHz for now until I find a more comfortable tweak of voltage to sit at 5.0. The VID of this chip is 1.2460. I went through a few of these 3770k chips binning to find a good one lol.

I have the same SSD, the Samsung 840 and I get
5Gb a second on sata2.

Hate to be that guy, but I’ll just leave this here,
Difference between SATA I, SATA II and SATA III

SATA II (revision 2.x) interface, formally known as SATA 3Gb/s, is a second generation SATA interface running at 3.0 Gb/s. The bandwidth throughput, which is supported by the interface, is up to 300MB/s.

SATA III (revision 3.x) interface, formally known as SATA 6Gb/s, is a third generation SATA interface running at 6.0Gb/s. The bandwidth throughput, which is supported by the interface, is up to 600MB/s. This interface is backwards compatible with SATA 3 Gb/s interface.

You must live in the future to sustain 5Gb/s! I shall henceforth, call you Future Man!

New Keyboard for GW2?

You’d really need to be pounding the keyboard to screw it up. As far as your Dell keyboard, rubber domes stiffen over time, sadly :/ So if you just bought yourself a brand new one, it would feel completely different to one you’ve had for say a year or longer.

I had a Das, and is was quite a board with the Cherry Blues, but that clicky got annoying fast, and the front of the board was such a dust magnet with the gloss. I do see that Das Keyboard lets you choose Cherry Blue, Red, or Browns now though….. I didn’t have that choice when I picked up my Das Professional S.

I will say I do like how they even showcase the sounds that Blues, Reds, and Browns make in general so you can get a feel of how loud they are. Just scroll down on the link below,

New Keyboard for GW2?

Wow, that hatred of reds, the most sought after Cherry keys available, especially for gamers.

Sucks I was late, was going to recommend you take a look over at Tiger Imports for the Ducky Shine 3 boards. They come at a premium price, but sit at the top of the hill for quality alongside Filco, Maxx, Cherry, Topre, etc. as well as offer any lighting or switch combo you could want.

If you bottom out on a mechanical keyboard, it’s because you don’t know how to properly type, but if you really feel the need to mash down each key press, simply purchase a set of o-rings that dampen the keys over the switches.

http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keyboard-accessories/cherry-mx-rubber-o-ring-switch-dampeners-125pcs.html#ad-image-0

Using Rubber based Keyboards for 20+ years kinda tends to lead to bottoming out on Mechanical on the switch. Most of my keyboards are under sensitive, and require mashing (so I have a natural hard key stroke). The keyboard I use at work right now is one of those Dell Quiet Keys. Works fine. But If i press to lightly the key press never registers.

Ill give myself a week to adjust to it, again. And then we’ll see if its an issue (probably wont be, as I’m going to get the same setup at work most likely).

My Keyboard at home just sucks, and a few of the rubber stoppers became cut due to burs in the plastic at the bottom of the keys. Cheap keyboards do that.

But, I have not had a proper keyboard since early 90’s. Last great keyboard I had was my old AT IBM ‘Typewriter’. Noisy as anything could be, but was perfect until I just couldn’t use it anymore. Everything else has been sub-par since.

And when it comes to mice/keyboards I’m usually cheap, just got tired of always wearing them out.

I have high hopes for the one I bought, I shall give it feedback after a few weeks of using it.

Switching over to Mechanical, you will be mashing keys, it’s habit. It’s not something to hurt the board, but obviously it can be bothersome to some people. I’ve been using mechanical only for I want to say 5years now, and I still mash some keys on accident lol. But making the mechanical switch is nice though.

As far as not needing to see keys though as per an above post, if you are an elitist of typists, you would probably be on a Das Keyboard Ultimate or using blank keys anyway.

Don’t know where you get your info from, but to help you…

The initial press-samples had a bit of an issue with an improper heatsink, not bringing enough cooling performance to the product. This story got uncovered at Tom’s Hardware and got a bit out of hand. Basically the surface area of the GPU block needs more surface area and needed to be a hint thicker, Gigabyte ordered these cooler but simply received the version that diverted from the specifications. The second this was discovered Gigabyte halted the production line and replaced the coolers. From what we have learned, the pre-production run that was send out to some partners and media that where defective was merely a batch of 30 cards, the production board with improper cooling never made it into retail. So if you want to purchase this card, rest assured that you will purchase the version with the proper cooling solution.

Production is in full swing with the revised coolers.

SNIP

Advice? General gaming: I’d go for a AMD R9 280X, it’s one model down from the flagship 290X but half the price..

@OP

Don’t bother with a 280x, there are major manufacturing flaws with those cards in circulation atm. It will take at least 6 months for those “bad” cards to be taken off the market and replaced. If you are going to get a card, either buy a 270x (which doesnt have the manufacturing flaw) or buy an Nvidia card. Either way 280x atm are an extremely bad choice.

Going to back that with a source? We have 20 280x units running perfectly and happily alongside the 290x unit boxes.

The OP established he doesn’t need a new card.

I would guestimate closer to 4.9/5 for a 2500k to 4670k’s 4.5, but close enough anyway that Sandy is still a great platform.

I say be careful and just watch the overclocks, the 4 + 2 power phase on the Pro3 is a bit limited and even stock clocks can be unstable with it, it is a very iffy board despite the good build quality offered on it. ( 4.5GHz should be easily attainable)
