The EVGA brand is something to stay away from with the 9xx series so far, this is what we’ve determined over at Overclockers.com. Also, the EVGA cards are reference PCB if you want to stick with reference.

Torrent doesn’t sound the most feasible due to the constant updates this game gets. I had a download link up several months ago of my GW2 folder, however, you would have to sit through updates still. You are more than welcome to use it if you want via the previous thread I posted in. It is an 18GB download, so keep that in mind.

Keep in mind, being a copy 4months old you will still have to download updates since then.

I’m sorry to hear that though, I would talk to Sapphire and see if they would still accept an RMA. Some companies will still help you out.

Don’t worry about being snippy, it’s understandable, you were the one having the issue and having an issue and not finding out what it is can be frustrating. I think I can safely say we’ve all been there.

Outside that, check out Sager and MSI lappies, you won’t need much for college assuming you aren’t using it for specialized projects like 3d modeling/rendering.

EDIT: Looking through some old threads in an attempt to find an answer, looks like you are very, very determined to say it’s not the game. I doubt I’ll change your mind, but I found it amusing to see you reply in threads from months ago..

If you noticed in those other threads, all of the knowledgeable people kittenponded already told the user(s) that the software does not cause overheating. It is simply a fact, if something is overheating, it is due to improper cooling, plain and simple, that is how these machines work. You are more than welcome to post over at XtremeSystems, Overclockers, or HardForum and ask the same question, of course you will be told what I told you, need better cooling if your gpu keeps rising in temp at 100% use. That indicates a problem with the cooling.

Which 7870 do you have? Blower style cooler? If not, what cooler does it have on it? Overclocked? Have you verified your cpu temps? What is your ambient temp? What are your hardware temps at idle and at load? Have you kept a temp log when playing GW2?

Despite the aiming at GW2 for a heating problem, I’d like to see this issue fixed for you. Try to answer the above to the best of your ability.

New PC

If you don’t want to invest money into compressed air, my opinion, but don’t get a pc…. If you refuse to take care of it what’s the point? That’s like buying a brand new car and then you want to run it for years without changing the oil because you don’t want to “invest” on something needed as simple as basic maintenance.

If you want it to last, regardless if you get a new setup or not, I would highly recommend dusting it out with compressed air once a month at least. I personally bought one of these a while back and love it,

Overheating is NOT a common issue… It is an issue yes, but an issue of improper cooling on YOUR end. Can’t believe this thread is coming up again, lol.

If you are SURE it’s your gpu overheating and not cpu or both cpu and gpu, then look at aftermarket cooling options. Simple as that.

Previous poster mentioned verifying fans are spinning along with no dust clogging things up, do that of course, but if it’s always been a problem, get a better cooler.

steelseries mouse problems.

Posted by: sobe.4157

sobe.4157

Are you using the SteelSeries software? Can use that to bind to a key as a shortcut, then simply add that action ingame to the key you selected for the shortcut.

So basically in SS app create a new profile for GuildWars 2 and bind Mouse4 to F11 and bind Mouse5 (or whatever the SS Engine software names the buttons) to F12. From here go ingame and bind both F11 and F12 to whatever actions you want. Now simply press your side mouse buttons (aka Mouse4 and 5) and the actions should work just fine.

Not exactly as simple as a direct bind, but perhaps a solution to your trouble.

Oh geez, the AMD fans are out in full to defend what even AMD claims is not what they hoped. The 8350 and the rest of the FX chips are simply slower than the i5/i7 counterparts in nearly every aspect. That being said the 8350 is quite the chip with some oomph behind it, but due to the architecture and not being true 8 core, the chip simply did not hit the market with it’s module setup like AMD hoped. Even in multi threaded environments Intel tends to pull ahead…

Now, that being said, according to some recent news AMD will be aiming at the enthusiast crowd in 2016. With Intel’s leading cpus since Nehalem, they have been somewhat stagnant…. My hope is that AMD pulls what they did back in the AthlonXP days and puts serious pressure on Intel while keeping their well known lower costs. I want to see the underdog pull back out the bag of tricks and get a one up on Intel for slouching.

That out of the way, if you want the best experience in your games, ESPECIALLY this one, go Intel. 100% stupid to look at anything else if buying new and this game is on your list.

Oh and before the bashing, I am a fan of the underdog known as AMD… I WANT AMD to put a deathgrip on Intel, more competition means better results for consumers, regardless which brand you go to.

The picture itself will remain the same on 30Hz, 60Hz, 144Hz. The main difference visually is the smoothness, which should be easier on the eyes. You can notice the difference between 60 and 120 even on desktop, so games you see it even better, not just FPS games.

Im glad you enjoy your Samsung. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my 2560×1440 panels over the past several years as well (difference is all of mine overclocked to 85Hz at least). Yamakasi Catleaps, Achieva Shimian, Overlord Tempest, and for PLS the wonderful QNIX is by far my favorite, overclocked to 130Hz it is definitely my favorite panel until the RoG Swift comes out. But regardless, I refuse to game on 60Hz due to how crappy it is. Once you experience 120Hz or higher, I’m positive you won’t go back. The screen real estate on 1440p is wonderful though isn’kitten

As far as OP, 120Hz MAY help, I’m not sure as everyone is different. I know it’s resolved that issue with a few friends, but not all. One of them picked up a pair of Gunnars and hasnt mentioned headaches since. Lowering brightness will only help so much.

I would check out a 120Hz or 144Hz monitor, some people are sensitive to the eye strain that 60Hz causes in games, which in turn can cause slight headaches to migraines. Plus, 60Hz looks like crap in games anyway, so nice little upgrade unless your vid card is a budget card.

The only things making noise in the setup is fans, hard drive, and pump. A radiator in an liquid cooling unit, unlike water cooling setups a reservoir is built into that radiator, but aside from moving water/liquid, rads make 0 noise.

The pump, being a cheap all in one unit, probably makes a little noise, but I’d venture to guess the fan(s) on the rad are one of the problem areas assuming they used the included fans that came with the aio. The vid card’s fan shouldn’t be loud, and that small fan on the motherboard, it should not get unbearable. Realistically in a proper setup you should only hear the whooshing of air, no fan noise except vid card if using an air cooler. If you hear fan noise, I would replace all fans in case and on rad with Scythe GentleTyphoons, they are no longer in production, but several shops still have several and they are the absolute BEST fans to use for radiators with Noiseblocker eLoop B12’s coming in as a replacement to the now discontinued GentleTyphoon.

One thing you COULD do, is purchase noise dampener from FrozenCPU or Performance-PCs and line the case with it, that should help significantly. Also, I would focus to check if your alienware came preinstalled with software for that AIO that ramps the rad fan up to high speed when cpu thermals go up.

Exiled was pretty spot on, for a GPU in a hot environment thats fine, after all, it is the summer. Now, if that was CPU temp, it would be another story.

Actually, if you are correct it would not be tied to current Net Neutrality bills, etc. companies like Google have been paying extra for superior connections for more than just a few years now to all of the major carriers… And they aren’t the only ones. Google did recently take a stance against paying extra to the carriers though siding with Netflix, but only because it has recently been brought to public light, as the general public has been unaware of such things that have been going on for years….

So if it was an issue with fast lanes, it would be a breach of their carrier contract. It sounds like something else. Dunno why people keep yelling “NET NEUTRALITY DID IT” lately, it has nothing to do with net neutrality unless Verizon is forcing Anet to either pay them or refuse their traffic, which…. Would be illegal, so no, net neutrality issues arent even pushing things that far.

Advice to ANET

So, everyone by now has realized the terrible optimization in GW2. It is unacceptable. Especially for an MMO, which is designed to be played by many players. In the case of GW2, though, even people like myself who have gaming computers cannot enjoy the game due to the terrible optimization.

I have some advice for ANET though on how to fix this optimization.

Dark Souls 2 recently came out on PC, and this game has probably the best optimization out of any PC game I have ever played. My brothers 7 year old PC can play Dark Souls 2 on high settings at 60fps flat at all times.

So, what ANET has to do is contact FromSoftware and have them optimize GW2. Since, obviously, the developers that made GW2 do not know how to optimize a game after 2 years.

I still don’t get how this game is so unoptimized yet GW1 had great optimization.

Oh well, just my little theory on how to fix it.

Your theory is wrong in every aspect, /thread

Fact of the matter is, if you had an decent i5/i7 setup, you would be enjoying the game just fine despite its shortcomings.

Your current Corsair is made by Channel Well, who are known for quality Corsair units, so I wouldnt bother upgrading that. But if you do, all you need is a 500watt which would still leave room for overclocking both cpu and gpu. Now, if you want quality I suggest Seasonic X650 or Seasonic SSR650RM, from a performance standpoint these are some of the best in the market in that watt range according to JonnyGuru.

You could use a multimeter to check if voltages are within 5% tolerance on your psu. Plus, lets say the psu is bad, Corsair is extremely good with their RMAs and may even cross ship for free…. Also you said new so you should be within 30day return period to wherever you bought the psu.. But if I had that Corsair unit I dont see a logical reason to change to a Seasonic.

Are you planning to overclock the CPU? If not, then you can save some money by going with a 4770 instead of a 4770k. The CPU’s are identical, the only difference is that the ‘k’ model has an unlocked multiplier for overclocking. If this isn’t important to you, you can shave off $40-$50 here with no performance loss.

No, get a k series, the difference between k and non k is $10 and has been for nearly 2 years, don’t be an idiot and screw yourself on resale value because you want to save $10 :/

That is a quick mockup, but even that saves some coin, includes quality brands, as well as a Bluray drive. You can add an SSD such as a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB or whatever one you’ve been looking at for another $100 and still be under the price of the parts they quoted you.

Z97 would not be a bad idea if you plan to upgrade the pc in a year or 2’s time. Just take my list as a quick example, you can change things around making it cheaper.

Sorry to tell ya little fella, YOUR FX 6300 is quite the bottleneck on even mid range gpus like the 280x or GTX 770, you have to overclock it to 4.5GHz to minimize the bottleneck.

As for your “noone shows Intel bottlenecks, only FX”, maybe because you haven’t educated yourself with Intel then. Intel chips used to bottleneck gpus, not horribly, but they still did and it was all over the web. With Conroe, Intel moved into better position, then we started seeing the wonderful quad Yorkfields and the great Wolfdale chips that still needed to be oc’d to reduce bottleneck. Nehalem i7 comes out and guess what, still need to oc a little. Intel at this time made a crazy period with the 2nd gen i7 chips alongside the i5 with such an improvement the bottlenecking was minimal, and each advancement and generation with ~10% improvement has pushed that bottleneck away.

AMD on the other hand, while they have improved, are not quite as competitive in the cpu territory as they were in the Duron and AthlonXP days, the AMD “glory days” as I like to call them, and as someone who used ONLY AMD, I loved their Palaminos, Thoroughbred, and of course the great Barton! But at least right now, they aren’t trying to be neck and neck anymore, they are trying a new architecture out to get what they can from it. Their lower end chips like the FX 6300 are NOT bad at all, but, they do bottleneck current gpus.

As sirsquishy said though, don’t take Bee’s advice, it’s simply wrong. I too am moving away from this convo, the AMD fanboy rage will soon take hold of him.

To tell you the truth, I recently had 2 higher end “gaming lappies” from the ASUS RoG line, I sold one already and may just sell the other, they are expensive, bulky, and simply not worth their form factor IMO unless you need a space saving desktop replacement.

I would prob change a few things from what you ordered, but overall I think what you got is almost ideal for a laptop. Plus, with these ASUS RoG lappies, if I actually use them without a charger, the battery lasts maybe 2 hours only lol depending on how loaded I make the system.

You said i5, then went on to say 4770k, then you jump to BF4 then Mantle. Stop bringing up cpus + Mantle, Mantle does more than just alleviate cpu use…

Also, do you think you are the only one with more than a single cpu or pc? I have chips in my workshop and home ranging from AMD APU, Intel Pentium G series, AMD Opteron, Intel Xeon, Intel i3, i5, i7, FX 8320, FX 8350, FX 9370, and so on. Does that make me some sort of supreme knowledge? Hell no, it means next to nothing aside from I have too much tech and too many random projects, builds, htpcs, etc.

Also, already have BF4, had it since release, means nothing since this is about Guild Wars 2. Just because YOU think it is bottlenecked, does not make it so. Judging by all your posts, it sounds like you really don’t have an i7 or i5 for that matter, just the 6300, and you hate seeing it outperformed or the fact the 6300 can bottleneck even mid range cards like the 770.

Btw, once again, Mantle doesn’t just alleviate cpu use, since you are an AMD fanboy stuck on Mantle like a fly on flypaper, you have to account for the “metal” that Mantle actually does and is used for, not saying “zomg guyz mantle gives gaaaainzzzz vtec yo!!!”

Realistically, sure, I would have said grab a Sager lappy for games, but when it comes down to it, laptop brand won’t affect performance. The Dell you picked out is a good performer, and if it has an expansion slot for an SSD to easily be added, it will transform any slow load times to lightning quick like you bought an even newer pc.

The biggest plus I see is that you ordered an i5 with it instead of an i3, which will help you tremendously in this game. Just, don’t expect to not lag. You may very well see the effect once you find a large group event or WvW.

Overall for a laptop though, it looks good to me.

You so so naive … just stop being naive. Many poeple dont realize that with i5 on win 7 your CPu will bottleneck R9 280X and higher… i think that in some cases even r9 270X can be bottlenecked.

7870×2 is slower than R9 290X
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3-hH_iGbIk

i7 4770K 4.2Ghz using Dx11 will be huge bottleneck .. using mantle totally different

You seem very naive, and I understand you want to make a name for yourself with knowledge here, which is fine, but spreading misinformation is not fine.

You keep spouting random information and numbers that are false, of which I have not contested because Google is useful… But to help you with your ignorance as this is posed twice a day,

http://www.overclock.net/t/1450877/would-an-intel-i5-4670k-bottleneck-two-r9-290s

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1791353

Those are just a few from a long list of the posed question will an i5 4670k bottleneck a gpu, and according to you EVERYONE is wrong except you. The answer is a resounding NO. A 4670k is capable enough to handle crossfire 290x and SLI 780 Ti.

Please please get off the AMD v Intel high horse attempting to down Intel and praise AMD, both camps have their uses in each respective price range.

Oh, and because you’ve been shouting Win7 vs Win8 lately, no, Win7 does not bottleneck an 4670k lololol.

You dont have a clue. BF4 MP is very CPU bound. Also SP in some cases. i5 is usually bottlenecking a R9 280X on DX11.1 while CPu usage is around 95%

Since we’re offtopic and back to one of those famous and pointless API/CPU discussions, an i5 bottlenecking a 7970/280x? LOLOLOLOL, it’s funny because an i5-4670k easily runs a 290x or 780 Ti without bottlenecking.

Let’s go through this again though, an MMO on DX9 has such a low chance of being updated in this day and time that you have a better chance of winning $1million or more in the lottery than seeing the game’s framework updated.

It is unoptimized, despite how long it’s been out, due to limitations as well as the horribly poor per core performance of the FX line which collide into a kittenfest. A “small team” cannot improve on something that is already being pushed to it’s limits without rewriting the entire game.

An i5 would greatly improve your experience, but even so… You still have to keep in mind, this game runs poorly on even the highest end of machines, so there’s only so much you can do and if it’s worth it to you making the switch to Intel.

When your friends told you to update your processor they should have specified Intel to get the best available fps. Since you already purchased the 8350 though, jumping Intel now is wasting more money, so I’d suggest giving what Bee mentioned a try, along with unparking cores. The fps you will be getting will probably be as good as it gets for you on an AMD chip.

Understand what you are saying, but if my hardware is not up to snuff, my hardware will overheat. So if I go and run Intel LinPack/Intel Burn Test, my cpu will hit 55c-60c, now, that is with my current hardware. If I remove my waterblock and throw on a stock cooler, what was one hitting 60, now shoots to 100c and my pc goes through auto shutdown. The only thing that changed was hardware, otherwise if it were software causing overheating we could all be like those poor schlubs and sue every company for making my hardware hot, despite my inadequate cooling hardware.

Would be like being fat and blaming McDonalds for it, despite you eating there every day. Not the best example along the same lines, but you get what I mean.

Radeon R9-280x VS Nvidia 770

You will be fine with either or, but just as I tell my clients, with my years of experience with tech from both NVIDIA and AMD/ATi, to this day, NVIDIA products seem to be a “better” out of the box experience, whereas AMD is known for being finnicky, which hasn’t changed. It makes sense though, because NVIDIA is far larger than AMD’s graphics department and has the resources and larger R&D/driver team for their final products.

When it comes down to it though, both are excellent. If you specifically want ShadowPlay or PhysX then NVIDIA is the obvious choice. Outside of those proprietary features, both will play modern titles at High/near Max settings. My vote would be to flip a coin if you don’t need shadowplay or physx, whatever side it lands on, that’s your new card lol. But no, in all seriousness you can just go with what’s cheaper, just make sure you get a brand that offers warranty that’s worth a kitten .

Oh, and good luck with whichever you choose, you can’t go wrong!

I wouldn’t go by price to rate a power supply… price doesn’t mean it’s bad.

As far as Ultra goes, it’s not a brand I ever recommend, ever… In fact, the LS600 unit he has states 600watts, but really it’s a 500W continuous @ 25°C power supply with mediocre efficiency and no PFC, labeled as a 600W.

You bring up a good point with the power supply possibly being dead though, he can grab a multimeter and test the PSU to make sure everything is within 5% tolerance (12v, 5v, 3.3v).

Aside from what’s already been said, Mantle may not live much longer after the release of DX12, what company would be stupid enough to use Mantle? It is my opinion that Mantle was made to die, merely to showcase what can be done “at the silicon” as per their press releases, and now Microsoft took them up to further DirectX.

The new card runs off the power directly from your PCI-E slot, your previous card required extra juice, more than what the slot alone can provide, thus the PSU PCI-E connectors to the vid card. If you purchased the 750 Ti you would need the connections.

As far as maxing Tomb Raider, you will need a better card for that one, 1GB vram isn’t enough unless you drop settings to Low :/

I would uninstall video and sound drivers, verify you have the newest version of each, restart, then reinstall.
