I think instead of a full blown expansion we should just get some periodic mini expansion DLC’s that cost anywhere from $10-40 as well as the free 2 week updates.
It might become a challenge later on to sustain this game on sales and gem store alone.
I would purchase DLC content if the first one they released was based on elder dragon lore and bought new features like housing or some new thing that we can do.
It’s fine if we can’t have full open world pvp but they should make more open pvp LS events like they did with the corruption event in BWE 2. They turned an entire open world map into a pvp killing spree. I found that event very addicting but it ended way to soon.
Would be nice to have something like this happen in some open world map for at least 2 weeks where we have 2 huge groups of players battling it out.
Maybe some zombie survival thing where we have zombie players trying to infect people and the survivors fight back.
If they do this it should be in a mid level map away from the new players.
All we know is that according to the last financial report the revenue generated by gw2 dropped by about 15-40 percent. Not sure if less people playing or less people using the gem shop.
Because the Queensdale champ train is probably equally rewarding with less difficulty and minimal effort or thought? Follow a big group of players, press 1 on the champ, sit back for 2 minutes, get loot, follow group to the next champ, rinse repeat.
In orr you get surrounded by huge mobs and downed pretty fast.

Is there any chance at all that we will ever be able to have high speed mounts in game?
I do not see waypoints as a valid reason why we should not have this, maybe it would not be suitable for WvW but for open world pve yes.
I just want to know, does Anet ever intend to add mounts to the game that will allow very fast traveling?
Some people like to explore the world traveling faster than 1 MPH but also not skip everything by using waypoints.
460k? That’s about the same number of players that City of Heroes had when it got shut down. Go figure.
Lol seriously!?
Then I’d say it’s pretty bad considering the 460k number for gw2 is only what it peaked to after launch. I’d say it’s probably a lot lower than that now, and the 460k number for CoH was the actual active player base.
But I’d doubt NCsoft would be so quick to shut down another game again considering it has taken a tremendous toll on their stock market when they were shutting down games left and right.
They will give more time before even considering another shut down I’m sure, but I don’t know what NCsoft will be thinking when Wildstar and Blade & Soul come out.
If another game is up for shut down I’d put my money on Lineage 2 or Aion.

I’m guessing not enough players buying gems with gold or the TP is just down atm.
Game type all being the same lead to it being boring. Plus the lack of reward, these are both being changed but its basically too late.
Yep. the hardcore pvpers have all left and probably gone back to WoW or some other games. and the e-sport boat has already sailed away.
Get bored of the same old conquest.
Have been waiting for new game modes(capture the flag, deathmatch, team deathmatch, etc) since the launch of the game. have given up hope.
but does it get better at a higher level?
I’ve heard that most new content is centered around high levels.
All the server says very now….3 months ago not all of them are like that. I do believe we have more players now then before.
Maybe they just change it so people like you will believe it.
Don’t get me wrong I think GW2 is doing well to market standard. I just don’t think the word “very high” actually mean something. I’ll probably even call it manipulation.
People like to jump on the backwagon. If Anet dont’ name their server very high, they’ll get bash on public gaming forum. Which I dont’ think really mean anything. They never release any public info.
And u know all this because u work for them….? Yea that’s what i thought u don’t. Maybe that’s what people like u would do when your game fails.
I actually really like GW2. And I think it is doing well.
My belief is the server population isn’t dynamically changed. It is manually changed. Because a while ago, I notice a bunch of server population all changed at the same time. If it is dynamically changed by actual server population, that is unlikely to happen. So most likely the server population is manually changed “to anything Anet want”.
They mentioned in a blog post a long time ago that they can change the server capacity without the need of server maintenance so they can lower or raise the capacity whenever they want with minimal effort which is probably another reason why all the NA servers are very high, they just keep lowering the capacity.
It is pretty deceptive but pretty good marketing to make new players believe that the servers are very high.

They admitted a long time ago on the forum when the game first launched that the servers saying very high is due to the number of accounts registered and not active users. So hundreds of inactive people who started at launch and have not logged in since are causing the servers to say very high.
Hate: how they lied about the dynamic event system and pretty much everything before launch and the game being really boring and not how I thought it would be.
Like: No monthly fee and better mmo’s releasing this year.
(edited by sonicwhip.9052)
Of course something big is coming in 2014.
Wildstar.
I have lost faith in B2P/F2P mmo now and truly believe that a subscription fee is best.
Although the same old $15 price should be retired and new mmo’s should have it lower around $10.
I expect wildstar is going to start making very big permanent content updates pretty soon after launch and an expansion a year later.
(edited by sonicwhip.9052)
I want to believe, I really do.
But these are the same people who claimed that Flame and Frost would be an “expansions worth of content”. So I’m not holding my breath, honestly.
My expectations are low Anet. Perfect time for you to wow the heck out of me
Yep… not getting my hopes up anymore.
Unfortunately I don’t see the living story releases competing with new mmos like Everquest Next so I’m hoping they decide to work on an expansion.
No expansion is being planned at all for the future.
Here is the reason why the manifesto was abandoned.

Listen. Two months from now will be about a year and a half from release. A year and a half after GW1 release, we already had Factions and Nightfall. That’s two new continents, four new classes, two new skillsets for all classes, new PvP modes, two entirely new stories, multiple elite dungeons, and bunches of other things. At near the same point in GW2 we’ve got…Southsun? Fractals? Temporary content? Did you guys set the bar too high last time or what?
In two months we’d better be sailing ships into Cantha. Zhaitan is dead; the path is open. Let’s go already.
Don,t remind me. How did a dev so based like Anet that was so dynamic back in the first year and half of Guild Wars 1, into a dev of a game that don’t feel like moving forward at all, with all it’s temporary content, with most of it’s new weapons and armors being cash shop only, with still no light at the end of the balance tunnel.
The game right now is centered around RNG, farming, zergfest, dailies and the cash shop with no fun allowed to a disgusting level.
I think the problem is that when gw2 launched Nexon took over 15% of NCsoft and Anet hired a former Nexon employee with no experience or passion whatsoever in the GW franchise and appointed him/her to a high level monetary/design position which probably caused a big shift in the dev team and some original gw2 devs to leave.
I think Anet was originally intending to deliver GW1 style expansions every 6 months or so which would have contained a lot of deep permanent content but the whole Nexon fiasco caused them to switch focus to temporary events every 2 weeks.
Sad what happened to a game with so much potential, I just hope Nexon will not have the power to influence Wildstar or Blade & Soul in any way.Thats something i didnt know and is pretty shocking

Yup. Time to move on.
I just really hope nexon stays away from new NCsoft titles like Wildstar.
Yes. Would really like to see some cross realm zone technology used here.
All the open world zones should get merged into 1 server. I only see people in the queensdale champ train and lions arch.

Not sure if it was Anets own intention or if they were forced to by NCsoft.
anyway I think sadly the Nexon influence will only get deeper from now on.

Excited? Well, Let’s see…
Darksouls 2
Watchdogs
Elder Scrolls Online
Wildstar
Warlords of Draenor
Destiny
The Division
Everquest NextYeah sure I’ll have more Scarlet and Ascended crafting because that’s a lot more fun.
EQN probably won’t be released until 2015. Landmark was pushed way back and you can assume the same for next.
The division, looks great, is expected late 2014…I expect it to be pushed.
The landmark alpha test is starting on or before February 2014 and the closed beta is starting on or before march 2014 with early access to those who buy the founders pack for 20 dollars or the more expensive versions which offer more stuff.
The open beta will most likely be later in 2014 with next probably going in beta late 2014 or early-mid 2015.
“I would actually be nice to see the game take a major hit in terms of player count or bad press though. That usually gets the devs to put more effort in.”
That would start to worry the publisher NCsoft(destroyer of games) and we might end up like City of Heroes as they begin to focus more on Blade & Soul and Wildstar.
I think we have more players now than before, if u check the servers most of them are at very high.
They all say very high because it goes by the number of accounts registered on the server and not active players.
So we have inactive accounts all the way back from launch that have not logged in at all causing the servers to say very high.
Also they should add a WvW section to the tool for people who want a group together like…“LF more to attack stonemist castle”.
The game does not need new servers.
All the servers show very high because that is the number of accounts registered and not active players. So we have hundreds of accounts from when the game launched(many who are not active) that are causing it to show very high.
I do like GW2 and I do wish they introduced something amazing… But when things like this come out ( notice it’s only some raw alpha footage ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jh_73qvfI8Y, it’s gonna be tough… And when I say “tough”, they’re gonna do something better than introducing Scarlet-like stories…:/
That is extremely good gameplay footage for Everquest Next considering that is Alpha or pre Alpha gameplay, by the time it launches it will most likely improve drastically.
The launch of Landmark will speed up the development of Next the more players are in it building things.
I just really hope GW2 can announce/release an expansion in 2014 or I’m not sure how the living story releases can compete with the new games releasing. They cannot compete, which is why I expect an expac announcement in the next 1-2 months. Otherwise, I just don’t see this game going anywhere fast. The development pace as been snail speed for a year and a half, I honestly believe at this point they have a mostly done expansion already ready, and this is a marketing ploy of some kind. Nothing makes sense otherwise. Where did the development go? You can’t tell me the entire team works weeks to bring us 2-3 hours of temporary content…
I’m fairly confident Anet has an expansion waiting for damage control, but I have no proof of course. I hope they do, I’m rooting for you guys and gals
Unfortunately I’m afraid they are most likely not even working on an expansion or even considering it for the foreseeable future.
I think they were originally planning one when the game first launched but switched all the dev focus to 2 week releases instead.

Excited? Not at all in relation to the MMOs with the state they’re in. MMOs these days tend to be nothing but a grind, if people want to waste their time grinding for something at the end of the day that’s totally worthless, more power to them.
I’d like to see an MMO like what this was supposed to be before they did a ‘U’ turn.
GW2 promised to be a refreshing change, instead they just jumped on the band wagon and followed other companies with the grind. Grind = less fun but tends to keep people occupied as they’re in pursuit of their useless gear.
buying gems is more likely to result in more content based on people buying gems. Like the living story, temporary stuff, hairstyles that are available in the gem-store, new mini-packs in the gem-store and so on.
Even if they add something like raids and fractals without en expansion, that sort of content will not have the focus when they use gem-sales to generate income. So if you want to support Anet based on such content you should buy the most expensive expansion (if they release one) not buy gems. That results in exactly the opposite of what you want.
A subscription fee plan is the best option for an mmo. Wildstar is probably going to have a lot of awesome new permanent content very soon after launch since they chose the sub option.
But new mmo’s should just stop copying the same old $15 price and make it cheaper like $10 a month.
…

I don’t expect anything because what Anet delivered until now is very thin and if in doubt its Scarlet hihihuhuhoho diediedie kiddy fluffy rainbow unicorn my little pony gemstore progression spamfest wannabe “mmo” whatever and bye.
Good thing there’s the holiday sale on steam right now and I already got a good bunch of games….money Anet will never see.
Yep….steam sale and the Playstation Network ps3 store has already gotten alot of my money.

There must have been some huge change in the dev team or something between GW1 and now.
I heard when GW2 released they put some former nexon person who never even played GW1 or knows anything about the story to some high up position and make important design decisions.
The only wish I have for 2014 regarding this game is that they announce an expansion pack which is heavily focused on elder dragon lore and heavy ties to GW1 characters and story(gwen, etc).
I believe an expansion is possibly the only thing that can save the game when all these new mmo’s begin to launch in 2014.Gwen? Gwen is dead. GW2 is hundreds of years after the events that happened during GW1. This means there is not going to be playable content between now and then. There are three books out there that pretty much tell you what happened between GW1 and GW2. Read a book.
I don’t mean to bring her back into the future I mean to make the new story bring up the past and all the old characters where this game can get back to its roots and its focus on elder dragons instead of inventing brand new characters that nobody cares about like Scarlet.
We could also time travel and maybe play as Gwen and other characters or something if an expansion is ever made.
They could also reveal more information and plot twists about all these old GW1 characters and the things they did before their deaths.
The story of Gwen in GW1 how the players have known her as a little girl and see her escape from Charr imprisonment has captivated and gotten the attention of a lot of players but this new story of the Scarlet character just leaves everyone bored.
An expansion pack should put the focus back on the story that people loved.

What I hope to see:
-Condition cap removed
-At least 1 new weapon for each class
-The beginning of meaningful PVE (separate PVP/PVE, remove Defiant, etc)
-At least 2 new utility skills for each class, or a complete Elite skill rebalance.
-A new explorable zone
-More Elder Dragon story. What I expect to see:
-A new RNG box added to the gem store.
-A new daily-capped currency type.
-Something vaguely resembling what has been asked for (example: Guild halls) but not actually what anyone wants (no useful function to it) that simultaneously requires a massive grind (like the new currency).
-More Scarlet.Lol I agree with all of this (-_-)
ALso I really don1t like “2 weeks plan” because most of times we get only new achievments and some stupied Scarlet story. I can remember only 4-5 good releases this year…everything else – trash.
I wanna to see 1 or 2 months content release but good and solid with challenge and something new…
Yes…..new content releases are suppose to be about quality not quantity but since this game has almost zero longevity, combined with non existent end game they need faster updates to keep people from leaving during the time between updates.
But unfortunately the fast updates create a new problem of its own were it is rushed buggy content that can be finished in less than half an hour.
I am starting to think that maybe a subscription based payment is now the best option for an mmo but the smart thing for a new mmo is to make it lower than $15…maybe around $10.
Considering that we still have features that they promised in the pre launch blog posts(that were taken down almost as soon as the game launched) that we still do not have to this day……..I just don’t know what to say.
If this post is serious then you are not suppose to kill endless creatures.
You level up best by 100%ing the starting zone map, completing the yellow hearts and events that come up nearby them and progress in the personal story.

newbies dosnt know about LFG cuz it’s hard to find it
Yea most people probably don’t hit the button where it’s located.
I’m excited for 2014… but not for GW2. As much as I’ve loved and supported Guild Wars over the years, I find myself extremely disappointed with Anet and how they’ve handled GW2 over the past year. Oh well, there’s the new D3 expansion, ESO, EQ:N, and eventually Camelot Unchained to look forward to. So yes 2014 will be an exciting year, but I don’t have much hope for GW2 at this point.
This is -exactly- how I feel. The game that I envisioned based on my experiences with GW1 and all of the pre-launch interviews, blogs, etc and the game that exists today are 180 degrees apart from each other. And it’s absolutely baffling. Looking at all of the competition on the horizon and what they offer…this game is going to get steamrolled. And it’s going to be ugly.
All the blog posts they have written before launch was also what kept me super excited for this game. sadly about 80% of them were lies which helped them sell a lot of boxes on launch. The original description they wrote on dynamic events made me picture the complete opposite of how they really are in game. “player action cascading in a huge chain of events leaving permanent and lasting consequences on the game world” something like that, when it’s really just an event repeats every 5 minutes not changing anything in the world that doesn’t reset to happen all over again.
Hopefully Everquest Next is going to deliver with what they are promising…“A truly dynamic world with emergent AI and the biggest mmo sandbox ever made”.
They can’t shut down servers because that would ruin the WvW.
What they can do is develop some sort of cross realm zone similar to the CRZ system in WoW.
In my server The whole world is pretty empty except for champ trains and people doing achievements in Kessex hills and Lions arch, it is listed as “Very high” population but that is only in reference to the number of accounts registered on the server and not active users.
Well, both Wildstar and GW2 are under NCSOFT.
If Wildstar happens to get 2/3 of GW2 playerbase I doubt NCSFOT would suffer. any major losses. On Topic.
I’d love to see them announcing new expansion, however, if they do, we’d still have to wait a year or two to play it, so yeah, meanwhile they’d be releaseing Living Story, which as we know is not that great. But seeing as how Ncsoft has shut down so many games already like Tabula Rasa, Exteel, Dungeon Runners, auto assault, Lineage 1 NA,etc and the most recent being City of Heroes I would be worried if another game under the same publisher is over shadowing mine.
This. NCSoft are notorious Game Assassins. GW2 will at least get a couple months warning, because they’ll pull the plug on GW1 first.
I’d imagine shutting down so many games has taken a pretty big toll on their stocks.
I’m sure they would be willing to give gw2 some extra time before they just completely decide that the operating costs are not worth it.
They should use the time they have now before all the new mmo’s release to work on an expansion pack.
Why resurrect an old threat? The OP and all those other posters from 8-10 months ago probably don’t even play anymore.

Don’t know how much this would contribute to progression but I think that gathering should be a skill that levels up every time you gather materials.
Similar to Runescape where you chop trees to level up woodcutting and you need to level the skill in order to use higher level gathering tools to upgrade from a bronze axe to an iron axe then steel, mithril, rune. The progression system in that game felt extremely rewarding and addicting because of that.
So in this game they could make it work how it is in Runescape like you keep mining ore to level up mining and level up mining in order to upgrade to a higher mining tool and be able to mine higher resources. They could also introduce a new gathering skill like fishing.
Which require you to either grind like mad, or pay. It does still require a subscription, and it is quite unlikely that the majority of people would gain enough in-game money to pay for another month of subs by just playing the free month coming with the box.
Everquest Next will most likely not be released next year.
Everquest Next Landmark will release in 2014.
After that it is Everquest Next.

Warlords of Draenor
Destiny
The Division
Everquest NextYeah sure I’ll have more Scarlet and Ascended crafting because that’s a lot more fun.
Honestly the only thing that can keep gw2 relevant during the year of 2014 is an expansion pack. Without that the onslaught of the new mmo’s releasing will devastate the playerbase. The living story updates won’t be enough to keep people here.
And just because a new mmo will have a subscription fee does not mean it wont compete with a B2P game. The majority of people can easily afford a subscription fee they just don’t feel like any current mmo is worth it atm but that will change in 2014 with the new wow xpac, wildstar, etc. It wont take that full list to get Anet in trouble I think the F2P building game EQN Landmark alone will be a big deal.
I am really hoping that they actually have an expansion planned in 2014 which is heavily involved in the elder dragons and areas like the Crystal Desert, if living story is all thats coming in 2014 then I am not sure if this game will still exist in 2015.Even an expansion wont be good if it doesnt have new entertaining features such as housing GvG and many others. the fact that people believe that an expansion will save Gw2 in 2014 is wrong
If it is a really top of the line expansion with many of the features that we have grown to love in GW1, elder dragon focus, new zones, new class from gw1,etc.
It will buy them enough time to shift the focus of content updates from quantity to quality and start releasing good and exciting permanent content and fix many of the things people find wrong with the game.
True an expansion alone wont be a magic knight in shining armor for gw2 but it is a platform which they can use for the future.
If the marketing is done right it can attract many players that left and keep them playing for a long time.
The 2 week living story is just no match for any of the new mmo’s especially the Warlords of Dreanor expansion for World of Warcraft.

If an actual elder dragon expansion was announced trust me I would pre order on day 1 but if it’s nothing but living story for 2014 I will have to move on to a new mmo.

Yes.
Did they remove the 15 character minimum?
