But seriously…guild capes…how could they forget that especially when they are now focusing on more guild related content?

The fact that it wasn’t announced doesn’t mean that it’s not in the expansion (maybe as an upgrade from the guild hall?) but even if it isn’t in the expansion I don’t think it’s something they can’t eventually implement through a simple patch

If they announced a small feature like hang gliders from Archeage and didn’t announce guild capes in the same speech means it’s probably not in the works for this expansion.

They should have geared the story to lead into Elona or Cantha I think it would be more appealing to go back to the story and areas of GW1.

Except Maguuma was part of GW1 map, and a pretty big part of the story…

But places like the Crystal Desert are more memorable to veteran GW1 players and would have probably had the best impact for the first expansion to revisit areas from Prophecies.

First of all, they didn’t announce every feature. I’m pretty sure what they mentioned isn’t the be-all end-all.

  • Ofc it’s not a Cantha/Elona expansion, the story was CLEARLY never going in that direction. Did anyone really think they were just going to spin us around to Elona at the last minute?
  • Yes, they told us about going into Maguuma, but they didn’t say, “and no where else”.
  • It does contain GvG – that’s pretty much what the PvP announcement was.
  • They very much mentioned raids and made it very clear they’re not doing raids in the traditional sense. But their brief explanation of the direction for the open world content sounded very raid-esque.
  • No new race was written into the story enough. I’m not saying I wouldn’t have liked it but I wasn’t expecting it.

I’m not sure if the new pvp mode was formally referred to as GvG. Does it allow a guild leader or another high ranking member to officially pick out another guild and challenge them to a war or perhaps an open world war in certain maps with certain limitations such as only one guild war per map?

You realize that all of those things can come via the Living Story system and that an expansion is just a different way of packaging that content?

There are benefits to having content come in via an expansion but it isn’t as though an expansion is the only way to get those things into the game.

Then why hasn’t the living story delivered these things yet? If the LS story was capable of expanding the game like this it would have happened already but so far it has given us none of these things. Maybe because it is not capable of giving us anything besides a new mission to be completed in under an hour?
You can’t expand an mmo with constant 2 week updates. It should be more about quality than quantity. The games revenue has been shrinking with every quarterly report the LS is just bland, boring and causing a lot of people to lose interest.

Just pointing this out there, but if Anet is not nearly finished with this expansion you feel is needed then even if they start today (and pull everyone in from the holiday vacations), it will not be out in a timely enough manner for your liking.

Better late than never but the game was released in 2012, almost 2015 now.

Ok I am posting my opinion of why I think we should get an expansion pack.
I really feel like this game had so much potential with the core game and the lore but right now the game does not feel like it is moving forward at all. The living story is not progressing the games core, almost everything feels the same as when the game first launched except for all the cosmetic changes and new leveling experience. It seems like the living story is only good for introducing some new mission that is completed in about 30 minutes to an hour every two weeks.

There are a lot of new things that an expansion can deliver to the core game
-Player housing
-GvG
-New races
-New classes
-New weapons for each class
-New utility and elite skills
-New crafting disciplines
-Raids
-Massively expand WvW, new structures, siege weapons, etc.
-New continent
-Expand the personal story
-Guild halls
-Level cap increase
-Player ships and sailing, sea based zones
-New dungeons

There are so many things this game could be getting instead it feels like all it will get is the bland living story every 2 weeks. We have only gotten just one new healing skill and it’s been almost 3 years. GW1 had Factions with new class, continent, etc in just one year.
IMO the game had extreme potential and if things were just done differently this game would probably be over 20 million sales and killing WoW by now but the living story is just keeping gw2 in the same place and not moving forward. They should at least continue the LS the way they did it in November 2012 when they introduced a new island, fractal dungeons, new armor, and led players on a huge open world raid but I really think the game should at least get one paid expansion throughout its lifetime.
I think an expansion may be the only way I would spend money on this game again because I really have no desire to buy gems at all.

Feature packs should be more content focused.

Colin Johanson:

‘A feature release is not an expansion, it’s a release focused on game features. Examples of game features we’ve done in the past would be: guild missions, account achievement system, spectator mode, new pvp maps, daily world boss chests, removing culling and giving visibility options, the WvW WxP system, etc.’

I’m not referring to what they said feature packs will be. I am suggesting that ArenaNet completely changes the current objective of the feature packs team in order to add to the core of the game.

Feature packs should be more content focused.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

sonicwhip.9052

I think it is clear that this game has a very severe lack of new content. The living story is ok and all but does not really add anything new to the game other than a new story mission that is completed in less than an hour along with some highly scripted and heavily planned small changes to the open world.
If ArenaNet intends to continue the Living Story then that’s great but I think the team that is focused on creating the so called feature packs should change their focus and look to the past for some direction.
The recent feature packs have also failed to add any meaningful content to the core gameplay of Guildwars 2.
My suggestion is that the next feature packs look to Guildwars 1 which was highly superior to Guildwars 2 in terms of new content addition.

The future for this game holds more living story updates that can be completed in 30 minutes. No expansion. No new classes, races, etc. More lackluster feature packs that only bring cosmetic changes and no additions to the core gameplay.

This is the reason why I don’t play much anymore except for popping into WvW from time to time into a random zerg. There’s just nothing new coming into the game. I remember back then Runescape use to have a non stop flow of fun new permanent additions to the core game and they made less money than Anet.
Well Archeage releases today in a few hours and the developers have already revealed a ton of new permanent content coming later this year.

Don’t know what happened to Anet GW1 had awesome new content updates. Must have something to do with the secret Nexon take over of NCSoft.

It’ll be interesting to see how many players Archage has two years from now and what kind of complaints they have. I’ll tell you one thing. The launch, the headstart thus far is less than stellar. I have a suspicion that Archage isn’t the panacea that some think it’s going to be.

In two years it will have twice the new content that this game could produce in four years.

LMAO! We’ll see.

Here you go. Game not even released yet and already developing more permanent content than gw2 has gotten in two years.

Doesn’t the first paragraph in that article state ‘when or if’ said content ever makes it to the Western version? I’m confused when you say the game hasn’t even launched yet, but the article talks about the Korean version of the game. Maybe I just don’t understand Korean MMOs and their Western counterparts. =/

The game has released in Korea almost 2 years ago and has been getting a constant stream of massive and permanent new content on a regular basis. It has just released in NA today and will be getting all these content update and future updates when the American publisher finishes translating and westernizing the new content.
GW2 released about 2 years ago and has gotten next to nothing in terms of new content.

I don’t see why they moved this thread to the profession balance section as this is a general quality of life suggestion and since it is a feature that only works when not in combat it has nothing to do with balance and it is just intended to not make you open the inventory every 5 seconds.
Also this feature if implemented should not be allowed in Spvp because you are in a scenario that is designed to always have combat but it should be allowed in WvWvW.

Would it ever be possible for these two classes to have a weapon swap available when they are not in combat? It gets inconvenient to have to always open the inventory to switch weapons.
I don’t see any downside to this as the feature will be disabled during any combat situations and should require a small cool-down when combat is over before being able to swap.

Yea if season 2 is bringing more temporary content I will make the decision to quit as well. The game is almost the same as it was when it launched all the content they have spent a lot of time working on is no longer in the game. I would actually feel pretty annoyed as a game developer to have content I spent time programming disappear in just two weeks.
Archeage is set to release this year and I probably won’t have many reasons to continue logging into gw2 at that time.

I consider myself a patient person, but I have waited long enough for any word on our next patch/update/content etc. that I will just play/do something else for a while.

Anet I realize you’re busy with the china release, but for kitten sake, drop in once in a while and let us know what is in the works…

Signed: getting bored

And what if they did that? What would it change? Other than making people complain about X not being released yet rather than asking what X is. And what if X turns out to work worse than Y and they decide to go for Y instead? Then we would have to flood of people shouting about ArenaNet lying and so on.

Honestly, it would change my, and I’m sure others, outlook for the future. I waited patiently for the 15th patch even though it was so slow in coming, but now we have waited another 2 (almost 3) weeks with NO news whatsoever. Suffice it to say there will always be those that complain about what they perceive to be bad news (especially on these forums) but I would rather get any news than have to sit in limbo for another 3 weeks.

Honestly the game would be better off in the long term if they scrapped this 2 week update in favor of one month updates that are 100% permanent content as well as DLC purchasable content every 6-12 months.

I’ve found they usually do group multiple players into the same starting instance- might be nice it it were more per, though. Might depend on time of day. The boss can 100% always be fought solo easily though.

I don’t think it is too hard. I just think new players should have an mmo experience as soon as they take the first step in the game and not a single player experience.
Some new players might get bored doing it alone where doing it with a large group of players would be more exciting for a brand new players.

When can we get real features?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: sonicwhip.9052

sonicwhip.9052

I’m going to have to agree with the others that ‘features’ are not the same thing (typically) as ‘content.’

What you are asking for, OP, is most definitely content. More races, more zones, more story. That is distinctly content.

Features on the other hand, are usually aspects of something larger. Additions or changes to systems in the game, for example. ‘Quality of Life’ are a type of feature. Colin gave us several examples of previous features (the wallet is the only one I remember being listed) so we could sort of understand what to expect.

This game is in dire need of new content, though.

And I’m not talking about another 15 months of Scarlet and her crazy shenanigans.

I never said it didn’t need new content.

I was simply pointing out the difference between content and features. Many seem to not understand the basic differences, nor do they seem to understand that Anet distinctly called the next patch a feature patch, and directly stated that they would be separating content / features patches and that the upcoming feature patch would not have new content.

Beyond that, I enjoyed the previous LS for the most part. Including Scarlet and her crazy shenanigans. I look forward to the next LS season. I also look forward to hunting down and beating Mordremoth senseless. All in due time though.

The new content listed on the guildwars 1 website is referred to as gameplay “features” I think features can mean almost anything that is added new to a game.

Via release, GW2 was far superior in poplarity than ESO, it got better recieved by the majority, it got better recieve by the media and it quickly became the most commercially successful MMO since 2004’s WoW. ESO won’t change any of that, neither will it become close to those milestones and if you really believe they will, be ready for some disappointments.

Why are we talking about ESO so much?

You don’t know what a feature is, and you’re asking for content.

Features are not content.

While I agree the games needs more content, I hope you aren’t confusing the “2014 feature patch” as being a content patch because it was never communicated as such.

If you didn’t think that, and this is your own separate complaint, that’s cool too. I can rally.

But if you did think that, it was misinterpretation and I’m sure ANet would thank you for your understanding.

The complaint is that they added more new content to guild wars 1 while this game gets nothing but temporary story events mixed in with a few improvements.

A.Net is disseminating information about upcoming changes. That is NOT hype and they are excited about it. What is wrong with that?

To the OP, go and enjoy ESO but it is a shell of an MMO and not that good of a one. I played in the beta and found it boring, bland and not fun at all. I felt like I was playing a console FPS but with swords and magic (with the same amount of disconnect from the game).

I also did not find ESO to be very fun but because of the name and franchise alone it will still get an initial rush of players and fans of the elder scrolls series.

When can we get real features?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

sonicwhip.9052

By real features I mean real new meat being added to the game, fresh new content that sticks around permanently and not just some small little quality of life fixes that should have been done at release(like account bound dyes as stated in a pre launch blog).

How about we get new core features for all parts of the game.

WvWvW: New siege weapons(possibly asuran technology), new types of buildings and structures, more ways to add competition between servers, more destruction, diplomacy to let two losing servers temporarily team up to take on a server with 80% or more of the map, more reasons for people to actually join the commanders squad instead of just follow the commander icon, moving tanks that fire various projectiles with two seats for driver and gunner, etc.

Spvp: New game modes(conquest gets boring), new maps, ladders, e sport, more progression, etc.

Pve: New world bosses, new areas, new dungeons(not just fractals), crystal desert map, events becoming more dynamic and not just repeat every 5 minutes, new personal story.

Also new classes, races, weapons, skills, elite skills, level 80 exclusive endgame, expansion packs, a lot more than what is listed above this game had huge potential.

It feels like after all this time this game is just not moving forward with content, it seems like there is so much that could have been done and instead we have gotten temporary content with some quality of life improvements.

Why did Guild Wars 1 get so much new content added in the game while Guild Wars 2 gets almost nothing?

Wow. Why are people always so negative? It hasn’t even arrived yet (the actual changes) and people are already whining about it. Why do people play a game that they find such faults with? I sure wouldn’t. I’d go play a game that I enjoyed and forget about the one I didn’t (I’ve done that with several of them).

Because they kept saying big feature patch (in addition to needing the extra time since the last patch), which when they said that, everyone assumes actual features, not the mostly minor changes (wardrobe, and possibly trait rework, is/are the only FEATURE being added). Unless the Solid Foundation and Facilitating Friendly Play (1,2, and 3) have actual meat to them (which I doubt, at least for solid foundation, which will probably just be the changes to starting tutorial/beginning levels that China got), this whole feature build will be over hyped.

Guess I was wrong in my prediction, todays is the merge between pvp and pve.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pvp-reward-tracks-and-gear-unification/

Yea there is a huge difference between a feature and a quality of life improvement.
A feature would be something new that we can do in the game like housing or a new class or something.
What we are getting is largely just QoL.

Similar to how the Darkmoon Faire works in WoW, we should have the SAB come back automatically to gw2 the first week of every month forever and can save peoples progress every time it comes back.

Seriously it feels like they put so much work into this content only to have it disappear forever.
Would it be possible for them to bring this back every month and possibly add more to it as well?

Should i be worried ?

My firm belief is that if GW2 goes the entire year of 2014 without at least announcing an expansion pack that is focused around dragon lore then this game is finished.

Once these new mmo’s begin to release consecutively they will all be taking serious numbers away and I believe Everquest Next will be the absolute final blow. Note EQN does not have to be released for that to happen, just so much as a closed beta will be enough harm.

I’m kinda disappointed on how a lot of things that were promised at launch are still not in the game today such as the shooting range in DR and the 30+ minigames they talked about in a pre launch blog post that is no longer up for reading today.

I’ve always felt like Everquest Next will finally be the new mmo to have that feeling like “I’ve found my home” of course I’ve felt the same way for gw2 before being highly let down at launch I hope this time I’m right.

This is probably the biggest thing I miss from games like WoW.
When you are feeling bored you can just do some quick duels against random players in the open world.
The whole spvp dueling just doesn’t feel the same because everyone has the highest level, stats, and gear. They should let us duel in the open world with our current level stats, etc.
