There once was a Mesmer who wanted a buff.
Anet said no.
The End.
But seriously, that’s exactly what I said by the time when confusion was nerfed, and I’m actually happy that someone brings up the discussion again. Confusion damage is in no way worth the effort you have to put into it. As you stated in the OP, in order to make it do some reasonable damage (and even then it still sucks compared to other condis), you have to do ALOT. Now compare with our new Illusionary Counter.
Five Stacks of torment are so powerful, it’s not even funny to compare it with 5 stacks of confusion. Block a skill, there ya go, 12s torment. Massive damage.
We have so many confusion traits that would allow new builds, only if confusion was buffed in a healthy, not-overpowered way. 50% more damage was OP back in the days, but… lets say, 25% ? Like ArmageddonAsh said, stacking in duration would also be a good option here.
Confusion wasn’t viable or useful in PvE, it wasn’t in PvP. It was powerful in WvW, it got nerfed to make it also useless there. If it stays this way, please, remove the condition completely and give us torment instead. It’s just not funny to have a condition with such a short duration doing almost no damage only when the enemy decides to attack and doesn’t spam any cleanses.
Back to your questions, yes, it should have a similar effect if you put that much effort into your build and use that many skills. Sadly, it does not. Not even close.
Don’t know if you played Confusion Mesmer in WvW before the nerf. It was amazing.
To all those people telling that confusion should just be “additional” damage. Why are there so many confusion traits if it’s just meant to be additional damage? Doesn’t make sense to me. Also, in a Mesmer condition build there isn’t really a reliable way of stacking conditions other than confusion (well, we have 5 stacks of torment now).
Don’t expect an answer from arenanet. They didn’t after the nerf, so I guess they are happy with confusion as it is.
And these are the Mesmer forums, after all.
Skills are arranged in order of their CD. Magic Bullet has a longer CD than iDuelist, therefore it’s on 5.
Never had a problem finding the right skill, to be honest
Had some awesome fights (solo roaming, huehuehuehue) today on Deso Boarderlands. You guys really know how to duel, really starting to like you <3
Thanks for everyone involved today!
Piken are just like SFR until Wemil decided to start laughing on the forum about the destruction his blobs caused and fair playto him, now it’s all abut blob VS blob as guilds migrate to lower tiers for organised “skilled” fights. I’ve seen more Piken blobs this week than I have seen AM, yeah the Piken blobs fight well, but AM blobs use more strategy and yet the forums are littered with Pikens moaning about blobbing.
Remember guys, Piken don’t blob and only prime time matters (surely if you were that great you would tick +400 during prime, no?)
Lol, If Piken had as many blobs as AM/Deso they wouldn’t be third, both AM and Deso are very high population, Piken is medium it doesn’t take a genius to work out who’s gonna have the most players and coverage.
Don’t wanna burst your bubble, but AM is medium as well.
I think that every class should have a full just-for-fun skillset after switching to town clothing (and no “weapon” equipped). Rangers can play with their pets or make a campfire, warrios can flex their muscles and whatnot, and Mesmers should be able to do some illusionary tricks (including what you said) :0
Oh, that would be fun.
Please post this in the suggestions subforum!

Like title says, only warrior is in worse state, because warrior don’t have portal and illusion of life. Honestly, mesmers are taken only for our utilities. Yes we have condi removal skills but:
1. All of them are bad or have quite long cd.
2. Cleansing from shatters is rather joke( Grand Mater trait…really?)
3. Almost all(decent) condi removal skills are from utilities. Please Anet do something with condi meta(i don’t like it and IMO its quite brainless way to fight, but its topic for diferent post) or give us tools which allow us to play competitively in tPVP.
/sign
I also gave my tPvP Mesmer a break. Currently playing Ele and Ranger.
The thing is that the Mesmer is not completeley useless in tPvP, it’s just the fact that they can’t deal with condis as good as other classes. We can trait for more condi removal, but then we’re missing some other stuff that actually made us strong in PvP. At that point, other classes are simply better (like S/D thief for burst).
What’s left at the moment is a squishy utility class that can’t really handle the current condi overkill.
I see your point Hexxen, but other classes are more useful at the moment, at least in my opinion. Todays Mistleague-Tourny also had only one (?) Mesmer in all teams. I don’t say that there’s no point in playing Mesmer in tPvP, but there are simply better alternatives. And it seems that many PvP’ers currently share this opinion.
The CD reduction for Nullfield in the last patch felt like an easy hotfix that was supposed to help us survive the current meta. I’d prefer some more cleansing on healskills (one condition every heal when traited is a joke compared to other classes) rather than wasting all traits and utilites just for the sake of trying to survive.
On the other side, PU-Torch Mesmer is very entertaining in WvW.
(edited by tetrodoxin.2134)
Also, the first page here is plastered with Guides and Builds, check those out. They are all well written and should help you finding the playstyle best suited to you.
We hate fun
Fun is our main enemy
>:8
PU condi build works for me most of the time(in WvW with sigill of generosity & torch traited). Plenty of stealth, plenty of condi cleansing. The one thing you really wanna do is keep those necros at a healthy distance. And that’s pretty easy with stealth and phase retreat.
Same for power builds. Keeping distance is the most important part. But once they land their condis on you, it’s pretty hard to survive the fight. Cleansing without torch is kinda meh. Conditions are too spammable in comparison to our “regular” cleansing utilites (Nullfield, Arcane Thievery).
Charr Mesmers just feel so… wrong. On the other side, you don’t see that many Charr Mesmers so if you really want to create an unique character, go for it.
As for armors, Human is probably the better choice.
Generally speaking, Asura (for the bigger mindkitten in PvP) or Sylvari (for the aesthetics) are the best choice for Mesmers in my opinion. I would never ever change my Sylvari Mesmer to another race <3
BECAUSE WE GLOW IN THE DARK!111!11
The only thing that really bothers me about that skill is the long cooldown. 90s is just too much imo. Other than that, I am pretty happy with the skill as it is right now.
Would it be OP on a 60s cooldown? I don’t think so. Will it ever happen? Probably not.
Another idea I had a while ago:
Change the functionality so that for every stealthed character/player, MI leaves a copy of that character at that position (up to 3 clones), not overwriting phantasms of course.
I wanna clone my team!
Scrolling through the huge amount of changes for other classes, then seeing the Mesmer changelog…
At least no nerf, eh?
Here’s what (hopefully) will happen in 1-2 years:
Every class gets a new class mechanic, with completely different F-skills. You can’t change in combat, you have to go to your class instructor. Mesmers don’t have to shatter and get different stuff, rangers don’t have to bring a pet anymore, necros don’t have to DS etc.
After 1-2 years, there could be enough new skills and traits ingame to make this possible. I like the shatter functions, but sometimes I want to play something different and the class mechanic (F-Skills) feels more or less useless then. Same for other classes.
With more skills and more traits incoming, you have to remove the class mechanic boundries at some point, and add a new one.
As for new skills, I’m in the same boat as most of you, I really want to see more mindkitten-Mesmer stuff like in GW1. Good suggestions here so far, maybe big brother is watching us.
I kinda like this idea. Makes sense and would probably be the necessary buff to the iMage without making it OP.
Plus, I would love to see a phantasm breathing blurple fire.
1. Buff iMage. Just do it.
2. Buff confusion damage. Not like it was before, a 20% damage buff is all I want.
My main char, Leyinn (Mesmer).
New armor.
New Armor for my main char, Leyinn
Sooooo happy with the result. Mesmers with helmets? Hell Yeah!

Tried it, but overall it still feels like interrupt doesn’t really fit in the game.
Cast times are very short, and as some of you mentioned already, there is no real indicator (like a cast bar) except for some animations that can hardly be recognized, especially on small characters like Asuras.
It’s something that was really cool in GW1, but doesn’t really work in GW2 as it did in its predecessor. Still too weak, too unreliable, no reason to take it instead of some other, more useful traits. Those traits probably only made it into the game because interrupting was a really cool thing in GW1 (I believe Jon even mentioned something like that in the last SOTG?). In GW2, interrupting feels more like spinning a wheel of fortune. Especially when interrupting with F3.
I really hope Anet drastically changes how interrupts work to make them finally interesting. Until then, they are just some traits not worth mentioning.
At least in my opinion.
Yeah, I like this matchup as well. Fair and interesting fights so far, amazing duels and no /dancing on dead bodies (at least for me). And best of all: No insulting or anything alike in the forums!
Thanks Augury Rock and Fort Ranik, really hope to see you guys more often in the future
The point is; he doesnt like thieves.
I really wish that huge blobs would be displayed like that, on the map AND in the actual game (players merge to green blob)
Would reduce skilllag. And would be quite funny.
Kudos for your fine arts, sir.
Told you i wasn’t afraid to provide proof!!!!
Upgrade your gfx card bro!
I have a feeling AG and AM won’t be seeing each other for a while, we’re probably going to go down a couple of tiers soon. Stil, at least I learnt how to defeat turtle defence.
“Coming up next: AG vs AM vs RS”
:X
Just forget about it, Norreka… no matter what you show them, it’s inferior to their obviously meta-defining skilled guild play. Arrogance at it’s finest. They’re not worth it, after all.
I feel sorry for your server mates that actually act a bit more mature (in forums and ingame). Kudos to them.
@Terrorsquad: Feel free to PM me for some duels!
Best. Thread. Ever.
We had some nice battles today with some FS peeps on Gandara BL, good fighting. Hope to see you guys again
cheers,
[Rage]
…or [BG], sometimes.
Well, you can’t blame people for playing the game they bought. There will always be servers with higher WvW population (especially with the new matchup system).
You got my attention with the thread title, but as you said yourself: It’s the effect of the new matchup system. Blobbing exists on every server, determined by the WvW population. Check the other (even higher rated) matchups. There’s always that one underdog that suffers from the higher populated servers. Even the infamous Blobbadon faced servers with bigger Blobs (can you imagine that?) and higher coverage.
It’s a shame if you really lost a lot of your WvW guilds because of that – hope you guys get the matchup you wish for next week.
Cheers from AM!
Next time better use subtitles Norreka, so the “pros” and “real WvW players” understand what you’re saying
Spreading the love.
Cool vid, but why not 1080p ? Looks very washy and fragmented on my screen. I think I remember you guys… wasn’t part of one of those zergs, though. Please don’t get me wrong here, but you’re basically stacking buffs like crazy and then start to spam 1111 as well. Correct me when I’m wrong, this isn’t meant to be an offence of any kind.
Nice play, obviously.
kitten they got us! Quickly! To the Blobbomobile!
[insert Batman music here]
Thank you! Finally some friendly answers
Can’t watch in Germany cause of GEMA, and stuff.
I’m not a part of the PUG zerg myself, but after watching videos from Norreka… it seems that they have a lot of fun. Who are you to tell them what is fun for them and what isn’t?
Pushing my question from the last page. Are there any dedicated dueling spots in this matchup?
Heya guys,
Are there any duel hotspots on a certain BL?
Cheers
We’ll do our best to prevent you from having fun this week guys
Naah but seriously. Never seen this amount of whining.
Quite amusing, to be honest :P
Gandalf wouldn’t cry… don’t use that name.
(edited by tetrodoxin.2134)
Really enjoyed this matchup, thank you. And I’m glad that we could compete rather well against 2 stronger servers with higher population.
Put the hatred away and show some love!
Bring back good ol’ Xees Shantasm!
btt: It’s a good build, I’ve had similar ones in the past in tPvP.
For WvW, I don’t like running (almost) full berserker.
Show us some gameplay if you have the time!
I actually wondered all the time how hard it is to actually fix a tooltip.
Isn’t that just rewriting some text in most cases?
/confused
Doesn’t matter if you’re an uncoordinated blob! #yolo!
Serious question, anyone saw an A’Mouth guild running alone?
You should have, cause you rolled over our ~10 players [BG] group with your entire guild blob few days ago T_T
(new group, we don’t have that much experience)
It was even on your stream.
Still love you guys. <3
@ Amelia:
We use TS3, duh! And the channels are called Blitzkrieg 1-4.
Awesome matchup.
Red Guard, I salute you. Amazing guild play.
Too bad our guild zerg isn’t as big as yours, it’s like the pain train running over everything at the moment.
Anyways, really entertaining battles so far. Keep it going!
Well… haters gonna hate, I guess.
Enjoy the game and if you can’t, just take a WvW break for a week.
You are so focused on our PUG zerg that you can’t see the rest, it seems. Better insult everybody, cuz that’s what we do on teh interwebs.
Try to relax, buddy.
;)
Btt:
Great fights with a small Gandara group on their BL. If you read this, we will be back later today on RS. Hope we’ll meet again >:)
Small scale AM roamer here (yes, we do exist. Usually 3-10 people in my group).
I am not a big fan of huge zergs either, but I can’t believe the amount of disrespect and offence shown by some players here. Had some nice fights going on the last couple days and thought “maybe check the forums out and wish everyone a gg”. But this is ridiculous.
I’ve been outmanned so many times by almost every opponent, being blobbed to death exists for everyone in this game. So please, stop being so disrespectful and get over it. There ARE big zergs on AM, as well as on any other server. Some people just don’t want to play the way you want them to, and that’s fine. Going to the forums and insulting them won’t fix that.
If the servers can’t handle those huge amount of players, it’s not the players fault. We do have many PUGs here, but I’ve also seen many guild groups out there (~ 20 players) running around, like fx or ADAC, just to give you some names.
That said, have a fun week. I enjoyed the fights I had so far, so let’s keep it that way.
Greetings from [Rage] (AM).
+1 as well.
Always wondered why this isn’t implemented already. Also, maybe show the location of the portal on the minimap as a small icon (for your group only, like a waypoint).
(edited by tetrodoxin.2134)
Also a bit disappointed. But meh, I’m used to it.
They also should fix it first before nerfing.
My support for this thread. Keep it going fellow mesmers, good suggestions here.
Some more, and we may summon a dev.
‘draws satanic symbols on floor’
The following are two common scenarios found in WvW post 4/30 patch:
Scenario #1:
1 – Fight is engaged
2 – The enemy is bad (because lets face it, bad is bad) and has no idea how to engage the mesmer class. Runs in circles flailing at every clone he/she sees and after 30 seconds is dead from weak confusion damage and an inconsistent stack of 4-8 bleeds proc’d from the staff.Scenario #2
1 – Fight is engaged
2 – The enemy has a medium of common sense (doesn’t drool on the keyboard) and immediately recognizes the condition build. The enemy laughs to himself/herself and either a) powers right through our limp wristed confusion damage (so little damage it is no longer a deterrent) and bursts the condition spec’d mesmer into the earth or b) continues to laugh to himself/herself keyboard turns and walks away. I say walks away because the enemy knows we are spec’d for condition damage, we have no direct damage (190-240 from staff, 200-300 from scepter,) all are slow moving projectiles, slow animation/cast time, and our primary condition (confusion) is not doing any damage because as we all know CONFUSION DOES NO DAMAGE UNLESS A SKILL IS ACTIVATED.Pre-4/30 patch condition mesmers could at least work to catch an enemy off guard with a punishing confusion burst to put them on their heels and alter the course of an altercation. Now the damage is laughable. Just as it is in sPvP.
The condition Mesmer is dead effective 4/30/13.
Basically, this. Just went into WvW for a few hours, and that’s exactly what happened. Bad or new players died as usual, fights with good players lasted for several minutes and ended with a zerg interrupting or the enemy simply ran off.
Well, back to shatter/phantasm. I am really bored.
Really hope they gonna compensate the huge lack of damage for condition mesmers. As some already suggested, exchange vulnerability with poison on WoC.
Well, here we are. WvW nerf incoming. A sad day, not only for me. Can’t believe this is really happening ~.~
