Where the crit damage nerf will hit most is ascended zerker kit, particularly the trinkets. Anyone in zerker exotics will be less effected.

Part of the reason I’m glad I got off the gear treadmill.

The most exciting change is going to be with the sigils.

I hate what they’re doing with the runes since they’re nerfing runes 1-3 and buffing 4-6.

To break up the zero-skill champ trains which I think are bad for gameplay,

I immediately stopped reading when I read the first sentence because the only thing that could be done to stop the champ trains is to introduce a better farm. If you do not understand why that is I cannot help you as you have not been paying attention during the last six months to the in game chat or on the forums.

1. Why is getting the people who do trains away from them a good idea? You find it mindless, er okay, go and do something else then. The “Stop doing what I don’t like” mentality in this game is bordering on the insane levels.

I’m still trying to figure out why this parentlism exsist. I can only assume it is the same mind set that thinks a Nanny State based Government is ok.

Suggestions forum seemed to be in the archive section, so I was not sure if it was still the right place to put this.

The suggestion subforum was archived for a reason. Because half the threads were about nerfing another class and another quarter were about nerfing some aspect of the game that someone did like that other people were doing. So, they hsit canned it.

They’re nerfing the damage because everyone being DPS is too strong in PvE…

You know the only reason we run DPS builds in PVE is because that’s the most efficient build to run, especially in dungeons/fractals. Why is it the most efficient? Because of the core mechanics the game is built on. When you remove the trinity and content is revolving around active mitigation of damage through evades, dodges, and blocks once you learn the content there is no reason to run anything but DPS build. Not to mention I want to get content I have already run dozens and dozens of times as fast as possible… which is why I will always skip mobs when possible… especially if they don’t drop good loot (I’m looking at you dungeons). It’s why I run DPS builds on all my other toons. No reason anymore for me to run anything but … I’m lying … I do carry a few sets of PTV gear on my toons for when I’m drunk playing.

[PVE][Ranger Pet] The Handicap

That would be nice. Damage buff while put is down. Someone has mentioned that before in the Ranger subforum. Basically since the pet is supposed to be so special to the Ranger why not make it get mad about the pet being down? I think they called the buff “Rage” or something.

It was on passive, right? I can’t take my pet into a dungeon without it being on passive 100% of the time because of the aggro problem. On passive they won’t take aggro even if hit or if the Ranger is hit.

They’ve fixed that for the most part, actually. Pets no longer draw aggro at all unless you attack first.

For the most part, and for the record I’m well aware they fixed the aggro’ing problem we use to have on the pet. Made me hate the pet less, but not by much. I’m talking specifically about the part that isn’t. Of course, that time when the pet can still draw aggro can be negated by putting it on guard or inactive… the problem with that is that the freakin active/passive still isn’t on a keybind! Honestly, my pet experience would be a lot better if they was a keybind for active/passive.

Ranger Balance [Post CDI]

[PVP]

Big Picture (Improve):

1. Ranged Damage increase (too many classes can get into melee too fast)
2. Pet F2 Timer reductions (especially if some of the animation issues can’t be fixed)
3. Pet and Ranger Stat improvements (especially if rangers don’t get full benefit from stats because of pets).
4. More Defense (especially condition removals and retaliation)
5. Secondary healing improvements
6. Greater access to fields and finishers. Ranger is especially short on finishers.

Reduce:
1. Ranger has too many sources of immobilize
2. Ranger has too many active evades even after vigor nerf.
3. Ranger can be too passive play style (Spirits/Shortbow)

[/PVP]

So, just so everyone clear these things make no sense in PVE since they have little to no relevance Bombsaway clearly meant these changes for PVP.

You MUST call it back to get it out of aoes, or swap it/heal it if its health gets low, especially in PvP and WvW where their health is significantly smaller.

Which, like we talked about in the other thread, that is a viable way to use the pet if you’re at ranged like you like to play the Ranger, but that tactic is going to fall flat when in melee like how I like to play the Ranger… even when you #3 with the sword or lightning reflex then F3 as there’s just too much delay to use it.

Well this patch is the first of the 4 “living story finale” patches, so I really wasn’t expecting much… That being said the runes and sigils are going to be a HUGE change for PvP and WvW and probably even PvE so I’m more than happy to wait, not to mention the amulets (especially if they include a power/precision/healing power one in PvP) are gonna completely ruin the current meta and flood it with new possibilities.

All that aside I think we will take the pause in balance updates to talk about the weapons a bit.

[PVE]
I think the PPHP set wouldn’t be too bad for Rangers… at least it would be better than many of the other sets of gear.

Of course, I don’t give a flip about PVP as I only log in for PVE and dungeons… So I don’t much care if any more or less stats make it to PVP.

Exactly. I’m more in melee than I am in range. When I started to be mostly melee thats when pet dodging became a huge problem. Because I was no longer ranged I couldn’t recall the pet to mitigate damage because it would just sit right next to me in melee range doing nothing until I told it to attack or I used a weapon skill other than AA if it was on active.

Champ train along with some quick dungeon runs is the best way to go about getting coin, IMO. A few hours = at least 10g. Especially if I get some some good drops.

Or you could do all AC paths in 45mins and get 4.5g guaranteed gold + loot.

Which is why I said:

Champ Train + Some Dungeons = Best Way to Go

Whether something is braindead or not doesn’t matter to me. As long as I am enjoying what I am doing I don’t give a flying fks if it’s braindead or not. I have a pretty good feeling I’m not alone in that feeling. I especially and really don’t care what other people do with their own time just like they shouldn’t care what I do with MY time. Yeah. It is effective despite your wanting it not to be, if there was something that was more effective people would be doing that en masse then.. As a matter of fact is was so effective Anet nerfed the amount of coin you got from Champ bags at one point. It is less effective now than it was before that nerf but it is still really effective. Yeah… I don’t have any hope. The fact that they said they’re going to nerf zerker confirms they are nerfing it to make the other builds look better. Same reason they nerfed the shortbow to make the longbow look better. That is the lazy way to do it. The band aid approach that they have used on other things. Infact, the Devs from the livestream have squashed my hope that they would give us an option out of having a permenant pet because that would mean more than a band aid and it is painfully obvious by their actions that the band aid approach is the preferred method of handling anything in this game. As Jon Sharp said on a STOG it is all about shifting preception… which means it is easier to change peoples views of something than actually fixing anything. What makes me think this is really going down hill is that the Devs said that the zerker nerf is the first step in pve changes… and if that is the road they are going down it’s a one way street in the wrong direction.

So, yeah, “amazing” means something totally different to me than it does the Devs.

Can’t listen to it for another week at least.

I think some people forget that F1 and F3 are also part of the class mechanic and should be used liberally. You’re right in that it’s a topic that needs to be covered.

[PVE]
I don’t think people forget them. F3 didn’t work as well as it should have for the longest time. There was lots of complaining about it until it was fixed where it breaks animation to return. F1 doesn’t really matter unless the pet is on passive as they are going to auto attack your target anyway.

On the same token F1 and F3 are useless in melee if you and the pet are attacking the same target… and most of them time I use them to attack the target I am (before I pretty much ran them on passive all the time). Only time my F1 and F3 see any action is when I’m using a bow/axe which ain’t most of the time… unless… it’s tagging time.

Actually F3 is useful everywhere F3 clears your pets attack Que making the F2 guaranteed to Q next, very very useful for those, like myself, that like to be 5 moves ahead of their enemy, so I can get my wolf to fear exactly when I want him too, makes PvP significantly less frustrating!

That bolded part… Sounds much more important for PVP than it does for PVE… which is why I put the [PVE] on my comment for context. In PVE damage mitigation through recalling the pet is the main function, IMO, of the F3. I say that because once you learn an encounter (the AI chain) so timing an F2 between mob AI interrupts is pretty easy… which is why I don’t need to use F3 to clear the que to use the F2… Pretty much you can just que it up and wait for it in 99% of the PVE encounters… especially dungeons because of defiance there’s no need for CC.

And your accusation of me having a “panic attack” because of the failed state of the Ranger is far from the truth. Ranger Balance [Post CDI]

Changes incoming.

At least that’s what the livestream said.

Not that outside of the bug fixes/nerfs (they are bug fixes that result in lesser capabilities than what is currently available) any information was actually given.

The devs seemed excited though. More excited about ranger changes than I have seen them look and react since launch and the state of the game streams. Hopefully that implies good things.

Some teasers would have been nice, but ehhh, the upcoming patch notes will speak for themselves. Hopefully some of the issues mentioned in this thread are addressed and/or some of the suggestions are taken. It would be nice to see.

I have absolutely 0% hope that this is going to end well. Let me stress that again: 0% hope this is going to end well. Especially given the patches since launch.

It is a well proven fact Anet will nerf something to make something else look better by comparison. We’ve seen that with the shortbow and now with the dps builds. “Hey! IDEA! Let’s nerf DPS builds to make the support/condi builds look better!” … May have not been what was said but that is what their actions have communicated quite well. So yeah, I have absolutely zero hope they are going to make the Ranger better. Infact, given the recent developments on the livestream I have been convinced by Areanet Devs they will not fix the pets or give us options purely out of laziness thus not wanting to tackle the problem of writing new code for the pets. So, my Ranger will stay where it is relagated to doing world bosses, node farming, and being a mule in general.

What Anet has really done in the past six months is nerf my want to play their game and buy gems to the point I don’t even want to log on to GW2 when I get home for anything other than talking to my guildmates… Thats about the only reason I want to log on when I get home. That is it. Anet is just giving me reasons to play other games and pay more attention to my other hobbies.

Am I missing something here? How is the heavy vs light balance at higher level dungeons (e.g. Fractals)?

Yeah. It’s called using the right tool for the job. I’m not going to use my monitor to put a nail into wood, I"m going to use a hammer. It just makes sense. It’s dumb to think that a light armored toon can “tank” like a heavy armored toon.

Thread is unbalanced.
