Trapper ranger, the one build that has always been good yet no one seems to use it.
I use it when I need to tag a lot of mobs…. along with LB/axe+torch.
we always feel it… but after that just nerf coming
Lol. Something like… Empathic bond – condition removed to 2 instead of 3 to make Bark skin viable? Judging by past patches, it seems thats how they operate.
Certain devs have said its easier to try to change preceptions then actually change things for the better. Thats why the shortbow range was nerfed to make the longbow look like a better weapon when it wasn’t.
Seems like if it was that easy they would have done it already…. Jus sayin.
Whatever the new content is, I just hope it ends with Scarlet’s death never to return.
I absolutely loathe the crafting system in this game, and most people I meet won’t bother with ascended armor till it’s available from doing what we enjoy in the game anyway.
Funny, I absolutely loathe time gating, which is why I refuse to participate in this ascended madness. Things I do in game don’t feel time gated anymore because I run many alts so I can do things multiple times for the same or near same reward until I run out of alts… which rarely ever happens.
In dungeon what players want is easy not skill. Mesmer are a crap class the only thing the offer is timewarp and stealth. Thieves Blind and stealth. They are great for skipping content in a real fight spend a lot of time dead. As far as Group no wanting or wanting a certain class it just shows their lack of ablility. You never need a certain class for any dungeon run if you know how to do it right. Exploiting and glitch has become the norm of dungeon which is sad. Some People who claim to be fractal experts don’t even know how to do some runs without exploiting (like the Dregde Fractal)
Wait, what? Mesmers aren’t crap. Stop smoking the mj before you post on the forums. The Shatter build is still pretty kitten awesome for bursting. GS/S+F is good in dungeons as the utility is fantastic. My wife plays a Mes and she stays alive just as long and sometimes longer than everybody else and she melees. They bring more than stealth and tw, but those two get the most use. I have lvl 80 Ranger, Thief, Mes, Guard, and War. I use my Mes, Guard, and War for dungeons depending on party composition 99% of the time. I’ll bring my Ranger sometimes if I want some extra challenge, melee the whole time, and if my party doesn’t care what you bring, but if I want to be extremely useful to my party I bring one of my other classes. I’m leveling an Ele right now specifically for those AC runs and world boss champ runs… Looks like it’ll be good for tagging in farming too running fire staff, ice bow, and fire gs elite. Oh, and I guess pugs are what you are referring to when you say people want it easy. I want to run dungeons as efficiently as possible so I need my party to know how to play their class as efficiently as possible to do the most DPS as possible continously… and party composition matters depending on the dungeon to make the dungeon run go as smooth/fast as possible. That being said, I’ll take five rangers as long as I know they know how to DPS with their ranger properly and their builds are right to do what we need to do to get through a dungeon A.S.A.P…. because after the 10th time I’ve run a dungeon I’m no longer doing it for story, I just want the loots.
So hard to solve they aren’t going to do it because of what is involved to actually fix them. As I have said a thousand times since that admission I’m hoping they’ll give us an alternative to pets since they will not or cannot fix them without dumping massive amounts of resources into reprograming creature source code then testing.
Yeah, those fixes in the OP would be nice though. We need more active condition removal.
We tried to help Anet with the class through their own CDI. Very little has seem to come of it. Only thing that came out of if was that we learned they can’t fix our pets AI or F2 without a complete overhaul of every creature in the game… Yeah. Forever band-aided is the status-quo for our pets thus Rangers are forever handicapped. I had high hopes after that admission that Anet would finally relent and give us an option to have pets or not… I still hold out hope, but after playing on my other toons so much more its easier just to use a class where the class mechanics work and learn to love it like my Ranger than to keep hope alive that Anet will fix the pets. Speaking of which, I don’t understand how a certain developer could say we shouldn’t have more control over our pets because it will scare away new players (someone can link the State of the Game video if they want where it was said by a “sharp” developer) but the Elementalist weapons w/attunements… Jesus. Every weapon set has 20 attack options! I don’t see how having more control of the pets would overwhelm new players but attunements does not.
I don’t enjoying kittening in the wind with my mouth open because if Anet’s own initative to get the “community brainstorming” was ignored I have no hope for this to help. Either way, good luck to you.
Depends on what you’re doing. In practical application I have found for what I like to do there is very little difference between Ranger and Scholar runes. Although, I want to make a set of Divinity runes for my celestial gear for my Ranger (and my elementalist) when I’m just running around doing PVE stuff. My zerker gear has runes of the ranger at the moment as I have been trying them out for awhile now. Then again I only run pve, dungeons, and a tiny bit of fracts so I got much more damage out of running melee than ranged.
Bamula, you got a link to Anet admitting to the runes being bugged and working on a fix? IIRC, they were fixed many months ago… but my memory ain’t the best I admit.
Erm, you can level almost any of the classes from 1 to 80 in the open world with little more than skill 1, because mobs are extraordinarily stupid and weak. Ranger is a little easier than most, maybe, but I find it hard to believe anyone is forced to learn much during PvE levelling.
This. I have every toon but a necro and I’m highly inclined to agree with this assessment. I don’t have or had any problems leveling my toons in PVE just running around doing heart quests and exploring as it’s just really 1-1-1-1-dodge-1-1-1-1 on any class. It’s just easier on the Ranger because of the we todd ed pet is fighting we todd ed mobs while a Ranger can pew-pew from the back. Lots of people I know that play the Ranger play specificly to use the bows. “Why wouldn’t I use the bows? If I wanted to melee I’d get on my warrior or guardian.” Thats what I normally hear when I ask about why LB/brownbear… Although only time I use the brown bear is when I need additional condition cleanse since we have so little access to it.
Pretty much slightly better, but pets are still mostly crap.
I play a lot on my other toons now. Recently made an ele and engi so… yeah. I’ll be spending even LESS time on my Ranger than I already am. Those elemental weapons are sweet.
Oh, yes. That qoute I knew about. I just hadn’t heard that point of the qoute being restated in such a manner.
I really like my Razer Nostromo and Razer Naga Epic.
My wife doesn’t understand, but she’d be a lot better at the game if she had the control that I have.
And no, I’m not a fanboy. I tried the RAT9 (or 7, whichever the newer one is) and the G600… I had mechanial problems with them and had to send them back to Newegg and then bought my Razer Naga Epic. kittened me off too because I really really like the way the RAT9 looks and felt. I’m about to upgrade to the Orbweaver and put the Nostromo on my wife’s PC.
The difference between iZerker and our pet is that iZerker was literally bugged, our pets just have bad AI, which Anet has acknowledge and have also said it’s likely not gonna change because it’s tied into the AI of mobs (god forbid PvE became challenging)
Wait, what? I’ve been gone from the forums for quite a few weeks. Who said this and when was it said????
Just two wishes and thats it:
1) Makes the pet optional. Either stowed to get damage or some other kind of buff or trade the pet for preparations from GW1.
2) Make Guard/Passive a hotkey (like F5) so I can bind it to something.
I’m going to hold out hope for #1, but #2 really should have been done in Beta.
The search has never worked on this forum. It’s really the worst I have ever used of any search function on any forum.
PVP? Meh. Don’t care. You kids have fun.
Mark my words: legendary armors are coming.
Not going to bother with the ascended when if I get the legendaries I can change stats thus not need multiple sets of gears.
Mark my words, this has already been comfirmed long ago.
There will be new legendary weapons early next year and soon after that, one new gear type except armor will receive legendary tier. Later on, armor will also receive legendary tier. This is however not vertical progression from ascended but horizontal.
Legendary doesn’t have higher stats, just more convenience in that you don’t have to change weapon to change stats.
It’s been confirmed? Dang. I missed that memo. Hotness. So I know I need to go ahead and save for those instead of wasting any crap or golds on ascended. Need to save everything then for upcoming legendary gears as that is much more convenient to have the ability to change stats vs having multiple sets of gears.
Well, Avigrus, according to some Devs it was a preception problem that the LB had. Of course, we have that preception because it was a worse weapon than the SB… at least until the last patch, which only happened because of the “animation fix” on the SB and the range nerf it made the LB look better… which was exactly the point of nerfing the SB in the first place.
More like a druid-beastmaster that happens to use SB/LB and some traps hybrid thing. You can’t really call it any one thing and be completely accurate in the description of it since it has things from all of it. I call it a Beastmaster because of the class mechanic we are forced to have 100% of the time.
Mark my words: legendary armors are coming.

Which one is supposed to be tradeable on the TP? I thought I remember that live stream before the ascended weapons came out some of the ingots were going to be sellable. Oh well.
I’d love to be able to salvage those ores and fragments into essences of luck or sell to vendor.
Is ascended amror tradeable on the TP? I would think not. I haven’t looked into it either. If it’s sellable on the TP I might actually get involved just to make some coin.
Because the animation requirements they have to stop to use the F2… Not to mention JP, lead game designer, said they don’t work as intended, they cannot fix them right now, and don’t know when they are going to.
Of course, that’s why I think it’s the best time to try to get something put in the place of the broken pets.
World Boss farm, FG or QD farm, and dungeons… when I can play anyway.
Can make anywhere from 5g to 500g a day depending on the RNG.
Can’t you sell the ingots that you can make from these things?
Guess which skill is surprisingly the most amazing one… Warrior’s, of crouse.;) On the other hand, ranger’s healing spirit which heals you approx. every 10 s for around 8xx hp is a joke, imo. Its active is not strong enough to compensate for that pathetic few hundred hp/10s. Sorry to say that.:/
The new healing spirit is never going to see my bar. It’s just a very bad heal when compared to HS or TU…. or even HaO.
Ranger is a light soldier utilizing in fast and flexible combat, skilled in dealing with unpredicted situations. He uses the knowledge of the environment for flanking combat, use of the terrain, survival skills and nature magic.
That is what he is. Hes not an archer, hes not a druid, hes a ranger.
Uh, no. He’s a beastmaster. They only kept the Ranger name due to Guild Wars 1.
Time gating along is keeping me away from ascended gears.
I’ve run a celestrial DPS-centered build on my Ranger. Not too shabby. Was thinking it might be worth looking into on my Gaurdian.

Hi.
I would like to complain that some classes like the guardian are OP in pvp kitten if i can kill them with anything really, other than X vs 1). Also some classes are too kittened to play in pvp/spvp like elementalists/engineers. Can we get some sort of balance please ?:)
thank you.Have you ever considered that you may just be a very bad player?
Maybe you are too lazy or just quite simply lack the skill to learn to fight Guardians?
And because of this you would rather complain for classes to be nefted instead of actually learning how to play the game.
LOL
Those were my exact thoughts!!
Thats what I keep on saying is that take a skilled player and give them another class like mesmer, warrior, or gaurdian and they will be better there than on a ranger because they are not handicapped by their respective class mechanics.
As long as medium armor doesn’t get another stupid dress-coat, I’m all for it.
Anet. Give this guy a cookie and let us do as he asks to adjust pet damage down… or up for that matter.
Make my pet irrilevant and I may want play my ranger again.
Outside of this build though, I wouldn’t even touch the trait.
Agreed and thats why I will never be running it.
*Fractal Resets
Glad I didn’t bother lvl’ing up to be reset because I’d be super kitten ed at you, Anet, for knocking me back down.
*Ascended Gear
That kittened time gating means I will never get ascended gear (except for what I can buy with laurels.
*Horizontal Progression
*Vertical Progression
Y’all are going to do what y’all need to regardless of what the player base says because y’all have a business to keep going.
*Grind
Grind is fine as long as it is not time gating
*Art Progression
Sure, why not.
*Alts
It was obvious with the alt-nerfing patch to dungeons that alts aren’t looked upon kindly in this game. You nerfed the one reason I played my alts more than any other. Now the Ranger (was my main) pet is just so bad I decided that my Gaurdian needed to be my main as the class mechanic actually works on them.
*Gates
HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE time gating. It is the most silly thing ever. No, saying I hate it doesn’t do it justice… I think the word loathing actually fits here.
*Map progression
Need more. A lot more.
*Ascended creation time
That time gate requirement is extremely annoying. So much so I will never make ascended gear because I refuse to have anything to do with it.
(edited by thefantasticg.3984)
long ranged shot renamed into frost arrow – auto attack now inflicts 1 second of chill on hit
hunters shot – gives stealth on shot and not on hit
point blank shot changed into charged shot – channel an attack for 4 seconds inflicting knock back and massive damage
barrage – first wave inflicts 2 seconds of immobilization
I like these. I like these a lot.
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd it’s gone.
Make it a signet; the passive will be the life steal on pet hit, and the active will be the burst heal.
Sounds pretty good for PVE depending on how much that burst is… If it is in the 7k-10k then it is definitely sounding pretty good on paper.
I run a GC build most of the time with my Ranger. In PVE/dungeons I find TU much much better than HaO. Like I said, I haven’t been in a situation where I was glad I had HaO on, but while I was using it there were situations I wished I had TU on instead.
I know when I’m running glass I love my HaO, more access to vigor and life steal, heal is bursty so I don’t have to worry about being executed before it’s even done healing me, and I use longbow so I can just use it from stealth in most scenarios so it being interrupted doesn’t scare me that much.
Are you talking about in PVP? Cause… I know you say you PVP so, sure, I can see that there in those game modes.
Sad I didn’t get to experience it at all :\

Thief skill…. not so much. ;P
On paper the new healing spirit for the Ranger sucks like a hoover with a GT35 turbo @ 35psi… And if you look in the Ranger subforum it sucks in practice just as much. I’m sure when I finally get around to playing I will find it the same. It’s pretty hard to beat TU or HS.
Yeah, I wasn’t sure which direction the post was going.
Whoa. whoa. whoa… Did you just say Rangers and thieves were getting only buffs? Sir, we obviously have two very different meanings of buff then because nothing that the Ranger got in the Dec 10th that is going to do anything for it in a meaningful way.
I almost stopped reading but you redeamed yourself at near end.
Well, Anet, you can thank Angry Joe’s review of your game. If it wasn’t for that review I wouldn’t have purchased your game for me or my Wife. I also wouldn’t have gotten my sister and brother into playing it either.
I’m just going to leave that comment right there.
Y’all know that legendary armor is eventually going to come out and have the same stat-changing ability as the weapons right?
I don’t care for the veritical progression at all. That’s why I’m not making any ascended gear what-so-ever. I’m buying with the laurels, because I don’t mind some grinding (infact I love to farm as it’s just relaxing mindless activity)… but the time gating aspect of the ascended crafting severely kitten es me off thus I do not take part of it.
Besides, I am not going to upgrade my exotics until there’s two levels higher than what I have. It’s like my photography hobby. Upgrading camera bodies every year is kittened because it is a small update, but wait two-three years and it’s a big update. Speaking of which, going to upgrade my camera body in late 2014.
PS: Talk is cheap. The CDI from the Dec 10th proved a PR move and nothing more as the two months of cheap talk was exactly that. Unless action is taken from these CDIs stop doing them. They aren’t changing the prespective of anyone with a three digit IQ.
I wouldn’t kitten about it.. I’d enjoy it while we have it. Sadly I won’t get to enjoy it until next Tuesday if it is even still there
Where’s the TL:DR?
Prysin pretty much nailed it anyway.
I wonder why then, in practice, HaO hasn’t been better than TU.
On paper, Heal as One looks better, but in practical application it simply doesn’t hold up to TU in any situation I have been in.
