JP is the same one that said it’s not working right, they’ve been using a band aid approach since beta, going to take a lot of resources to fix it, and they aren’t messing with it right now because of that.
The issue is that none of those other classes have been told by a developer that their mechanic is broken and they aren’t working on fixing it. The 12/10 thread has thrown the whole class in disarray and has given justification to the players who are upset with the way ANet has handled this class.
The issue now is why should the players be penalized for a system ANet has no intention of fixing? At what point should players look at this class as a realistic option in Guild Wars 2?
Quoted for truth. When I play on my guardian, warrior, thief, or mesmser (which I do much more now-a-days when I do play — more than my ranger now in fact) when I hit the function keys the class mechanic does exactly what I expected and worked flawlessly. I haven’t come across a situation where I was cursing the class mechanic for not working as it was expected to when playing my other characters.
As a matter of fact, now that my gathering tools are now account bound (they’re going on my guardian) I have no reason to log back onto my Ranger until the pets are fixed or we are given the option not to use the broken class mechanic…. well, I’m lying. I will still long onto it to throw stuff into the forge. It’s the only toon I have pulled 7 precursors from the forge with. The good juju is in my Ranger. Not to mention I want to play my Ranger again and not deal with a frustrating class mechanic that only works when it wants to. Said it once and I will say it again: I love playing the Ranger I just hate the pet.

PVE? Direct damage always.
PVP? Don’t know. I assume conditions from what I’ve read.
WvW? Don’t know. I assume conditions from what I’ve read.
Then again I only PVE/Dungeons… so… yeah.
I don’t have much issue at all with the SB. It’s just a get away with #3 and then AA weapon for me until I can get back in the thick with the sword.
I don’t know what first skill videos you are talking about and I didn’t play in the beta weekends.
And yes, the class mechanic is not functioning correctly. That’s been owned up to by the lead game designer. Not to mention no one said that the Ranger is unplayable. I, myself, have said that I love playing the Ranger I just hate the pet. The band aid approach that the lead game designer said they have used to date is just that, a band aid approach. They know that it is band aiding a broken mechanic whether you admit it or not is irrelevent. He knows it’s going to take up many resources to fix it and that is why they haven’t done it. In the mean time there is no reason not to get a work around such a perma-stowing pets in exchange for something else that IS NOT BROKEN.
It is your opinion that the class is very strong and prominent and in my opinion you are very wrong. Accepting a not properly functioning class mechanic is the pure meaning of stupidity, in my opinion. Why you settle for stupidity is beyond me. I want a properly working pet mechanic (like on my guardian, warrior, or thief) or give me the option not to use it in lieu of something else that does.
Just because you don’t like a large portion of the Ranger player base’s stance on this subject, Snowflake, doesn’t make it any less valid… and when it comes to the pet it is very valid.
See, that is the difference, a Dev (the lead game designing Dev no less) said it isn’t working fine and needs a ton of resources to get it working right. The impossible has happened as far as I see it. Why let it stop there? Time for another improssible to happen and that’s making pets optional!
Not only that….
http://steelseries.com/products/games/guild-wars-2
Programmable macro keys on that board… Funny they’d associate their product with another product that has programmable 17 (and you can program 2 macros per key) macro keys on it.
(edited by thefantasticg.3984)
The warrior doesn’t need to be nerfed into the ground, but every other class needs to be brought up to this level.
This. Could have locked the thread after this post because nothing else said will be as true as this statement is.
Or just make a macro to infinitely click for you. I mean, unless you want to wear out your mouse that much faster.
You’d think the sheer amount of threads/posts related to giving us the option to opt out of using the pet would be an obivous flashing red light and siren. There’s been hundreds of suggestions not to get rid of pets completely but to make them optional. I still don’t understand the people who get offended by having the choice to use them or not. I guess those are the same people who want other people not to succeed in life if they aren’t. “If I’m having a bad day everybody else should to! It’s only fair!” Uh, no, Snowflake. The real world doesn’t work like that. We who love playing the Ranger but not the pet are quite a large portion of the Ranger player base (I say this referrencing the extremely large portion of posts/threads about making the pet optional since I’ve been on the forums). It’s a broken mechanic. If the lead game designer can admit that (which I never thought would happen) there is no reason not to believe they can put another band aid on it making the pet optional. As far as I see it this the best time to push for making pets optional and introducing Preparations or damage buff for stowing pet, for instance.
You came into the game knowing that.
Actually, I didn’t.
Okay, that’s a failure on your part. It was no shortage on Anet’s part to inform you that rangers would use pets.
We all knew the ranger had a pet. It’s in the create a character screen. What we didn’t know was how kitten it makes the whole class in any situation where it actually matters and how little Anet seems to care.
This. I didn’t know when I was playing that I would be stuck with the incompotent AI for the entire duration of gameplay. I figured there was a skill you could unlock to stow the pet for boosts or something like that. There was no indication during the character creation or in the Ranger description that I was permentantly stuck with a broken class mechanic.
soul bound should be replaced across the whole game with account bound.
This 1000×.
Thread title totally misleading. This is not a needed feature for PVE.
Thought this was going to be a suggestion for better AI for mobs or something useful…. such disappointment in this thread.
Why not 25 player dungeons :P imagine doing CoF P1 with 25 people, where mobs/bosses health scaled up and got new abilities :P
haha, just a silly idea
Sounds pretty fun to me.
Um… Yeah… That 0.00005% chance of getting a “super sick skin” from a trash mob is NOT going to make me want to kill them.
It also pops the pet out. Very annoying in jps.
Honestly, that’s the sole reason I hate the fall damage when playing on my ranger.
Not going to happen.
Besides, hammer is a heavy class weapon (just like greatsword)
You realize Rangers have access to Greatsword right?
Boy, look up there, I already retorted this.
But Mesmers, scholarly spell casters, wielding giant, steel surfboards on a stick is okay?
Yes.
You came into the game knowing that.
Actually, I didn’t. I bought into the game based on two sources: my friends who played and the Angry Joe 30 minute review. I started the Ranger because of archery aspect. I had no idea until I started playing (and I mean that literally) that the pet was going to be there… Then I realized by lvl 15 that the pet wasn’t going anywhere. Depiste that I still played because I was hooked on the Ranger’s playstyle. And I didn’t mind the pet because S&R would rez defeated players within 4000 units made up for the massive shortfalls… it was that useful. Now, there’s nothing to make up for the massive shortfalls (read: broken mechanic). So, yeah, at any time the Devs could come to their senses and give us the option to not use the broken class mechanic. I will hold out hope, regardless of the nay sayers, that logic will prevail and we will get the option to perma-stow the broken mechanic in exchange for preparations or straight up damage buff or something that is not broken.
If you constantly read the ‘con’ posts then you’ll start to have an overall negative feel for the way the Ranger plays…
Ha. I got that feeling from having to deal with a broken class mechanic.
So, appearntly there’s been some dungeon and fractal fixes like the boat float in Arah P2 and Jade Maw… Anybody know of any more that were done? Were there any to the classes? Specifically looking for input on Warrior, Ranger, Guardian, Thief, and Mes.
Not going to happen.
Besides, hammer is a heavy class weapon (just like greatsword)
You realize Rangers have access to Greatsword right?
Boy, look up there, I already retorted this.
It is personal taste, Eszett.
Yup. Just got confirmation on it.
Just leave, you know nothing of the legendary bunny thumpers!!
For anyone who doesn’t know what he’s talking about:
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Bunny_thumperTo put it in GW2 terms, GW1 rangers had a trait line which essentially decreased the cooldown on skills. That let the ranger use the hammer’s knockdown skill more frequently than other classes could. Combine it with an attack speedup skill, and a few other skills which increased damage/daze when you/your pet attacked a knocked down target. You could dish out a pretty devastating amount of damage while your opponent was prone on his/her rump.
That… sounds pretty freakin’ awesome.
If you can’t grasp the fact that the LEAD GAME DESIGNER said the PET MECHANIC is FARKING BROKEN and NOT FIXING IT any time SOON. There is no hope for you. You obviously want to play a toon with the class mechanic as a HANDICAP. I and many other do not.
Since there is going to be NO FIXING THE PET ANYTIME SOON there is NO REASON NOT TO WANT the class mechanic TO BE MADE OPTIONAL. Get over your kitten. That way people who might want, I don’t know, PREPARATIONS can use them (like in GW1) and people who want the pet can use the broken mechanic.
Azure.8670:
“good nerf. champ farming is corny but effective. looks like world events might actually get done now”
Nope. I don’t get why people think this. Farmers, like myself when I’m in the mood, will move onto the next farm that is more profitable. If world events chain together fast enough to make it more profitable than to farm the FG, then yeah. I’ll hit the events.
I thought Fractals had the worst RNG out of anything?
And yeah, that time-gating kills it for me too.
My advice to get over your addiction is to keep playing. The game isn’t that immersive. After a while one of the many little imperfections in the game will make you lost interests.
Or the big imperfections… like the ranger pet.
I bought a motorcycle (like I have wanted to do for a very long time) and I very much want to ride that more than play this game. Reason I’m not doing either right now is because I can’t do either right now.
Except people who get precursors they don’t want know that plenty of people really really really want them and will price them accordingly. They will price it higher than average. Unless there’s a goodguy out there who sees 675g as lowest seller and thinks to himself “nah, I don’t even want this thing, I value it far less than that, I’m putting it up for 500g”. Most people will see lowest seller, and drop the price by 1c. Never underestimate the power of gold.
I’ve been that good guy three or four times. Sold it to the highest bidder… I definitely twice that I remember. I even sold one of the Dawns I pulled to a guildie that my wife made a deal with for 180g. So yeah, I’m that guy.
I don’t want to spend much time to max it , how much gold will it cost to do it ?
A few thousand.
Why do they salvage ectos ( will get much by selling them ) ?
Because you can turn around and sell the dust to make some money back.
Can’t they just salvage blue items as the quality doesn’t matter ?
Quality does matter. I’ve salvaged may through from 20% to 16X% and I get more of the better essences salvaging ectos than ever with the blues… and using master kits/mystic/black lion kits than the salvag-o-matic/basic kits.
Does the salvage tool type affect the chances of getting the essences ?
From my experience, yes.
I know about the GS… and it sucks. I know it’s usable by us, duh. Hammer just wouldn’t look right on the Ranger…
And yes, I clearly missed that guy but don’t care. NPCs (as I figure thats what it is since the link is blocked) aren’t held to the same rules players are for obvious reasons.
Ohhhh. Totally misread the dates on the thread. Was under the impression is was almost month old.
you know nothing of the legendary bunny thumpers!!
This is true… got a link to video so I can get know’d up?
Doesn’t artificer use essences of luck to craft?
Not going to happen.
Besides, hammer is a heavy class weapon (just like greatsword) that wouldn’t feel right on a ranger. It’s already good CC on the Warrior. It’s fun to play on the Guardian. Why not roll one of those two?
Ha. I don’t think they respawn fast enough.
I get bored waiting around for ’ish to respawn.
Bored = Bad
What’s that saying? Idle hands are the devil’s playground or something like that.
Now, if you wanna have legendaries, multiple ascended weapons, exclusive skins, etc, you are making your game a grindy one, so either enjoy your self-imposed grinding and stop complaining or stop telling yourself that you NEED all that stuff, and have fun doing something else.
Quoted for truth, bolded for the stupid.
So, I don’t PVP but have an immense dislike for the balancing that is done around PVP… I wouldn’t hate PVP and actually give it a chance if they quit ruining my PVE/Dungeon builds with balancing done because of meta problems in PVP. Split it 100% and I wouldn’t have any issues with PVP thus have a much more favorable view of it. I say this from what I have seen over there it doesn’t look like many people at all participate in sPVP (thats the one anyone can walk up and see the 5vs5 server list, right?).
Of course, then there is the issue of why would I want to spend my valuable time watching some people PVP in a capture node setup? Why is that fun when you have 1 or 2 metas facerolling? I don’t know anyone that actually watches PVP matches of any kind. I know some that’ll do some PVP, but watch it? Why watch it when we can play it?
Did this ever get fixed? I’ve been gone since Oct 15th and haven’t been able to test.
The idea we’re operating under:
If you want AOE CC, bring a hammer. If you want burst or DPS, bring an axe or a greatsword.
since the ham bow is solely a spvp problem why not just make the change for pvp only?
Ha! I came to this thread to say the same thing!!
Guardians and warriors have access to incredibly powerful burst damage and can use combat tactics that rely on killing the enemy before they get killed vs the ranger that has to rely on outlasting the opponent because we have “sustained damage”..
LoL
Every class has “sustained damage”!! It’s called auto attack!
Makes me laugh every time I see somebody say this.
Having an guild item you can buy with influence would be best. Activate it and for 24 hours events completed yield an extra 5% gold which goes Strait to the Guild bank. Possibly even have the item cost a couple of merits.
This way the guild must work together to get it but individual members are not out anything. But as leaders you would need to decide when is your guilds most active time to get the most out of it
This is a much better suggestion than what the OP suggests.
I think I’ve seen 3 or 4 people posting up pics of their MF being over 300%.
I wouldnt have any problem with pets being forced on us if ANet was willing to put in the time to make them work properly and effectively, but since Jon has essentially told us he knows they dont work as well as they could/should but they arent going to fix it any time soon.. they really should consider reducing their part in the rangers playstyle.
It’s given me new hope that they’ll give us the option to perma-stow them or swap them or preparations.
Isn’t the first step to fixing a problem to admit that you have a problem in the first place? Step 1 is done! Time to move toward fixing it or get an option not to use it!
Ignore the people crying that rangers are useless, they’re usually just bad players that can’t play without being told which corner to stand in and spam 1.
LuLz
People who are good on the ranger will be twice as good on a guard, warrior, or mes. Good player is good regardless of class. The problem is they have to try twice as hard to be good on the ranger than the guardian, warrior, or mes. How do I know? Personal experience.
Once they nerf-deathed Search and Rescue to res only downed and not defeated I stopped bringing in my Ranger… I stopped using it all once they killed the benefit of using Alts in dungeons at all with the token nerf. Now I only bring my Guardian, Warrior, or Mes depending on party composition and what dungeon…. or Thief if we are running Arah because shadow refuge
Those who favor either idea in the hopes that the masses will spread out to other zones are fooling themselves. The masses will migrate to the next most favorable farm, wherever that is.
This. This should be smashed in to the skull of every person who wants to nerf champs.
Nerfing the champs MORE than they already are isn’t going to do anything but hurt TP prices (read: prices will rise) because there will be less mats on the market and less gold to buy said mats… but guess who won’t be affected? That’s right: TP Flippers.
I read the whole debate and Bright is making a whole lot more logical sense than STRanger.
Still waiting for the answer to this:
“You still haven’t showed me how melee’ing to avoid range attacks is an exploit, whereas ranging to avoid melee attacks is not.”
IN MY OPINION for PVE
Tagging:
Axe+Torch/LB
World Bosses:
SB/LB
Champ Train:
Sword+Warhon/LB
Dungeons:
Warrior/Guardian
Oh, and I made the dreamer for my Ranger but that ’ish got stupid-kittened after the last graphics update for the legendaries so I transmuted it to the Super Shortbow skin… matches my LB now and no more full kitten unicorns.
(edited by thefantasticg.3984)
Yeah… I don’t see the problem with having the choice to use filters or not. Just like I don’t care if a guy 1000 miles away from me smokes a cigarette or not. It doesn’t hurt me, not even remotely, so why should I care? To the same point, if OP wants to find a very specific party, why not? I don’t understand how it hurts anyone else… if anything it stops a lot of kitten from people who will cry/whine on the forums that they keep getting kicked from parties because they are rolling a lvl 50 lb brown bear ranger.
