Well, true, I was paraphrasing… but what he said is “having too much control will scare away new players from the class.” So, they made the class for people who know nothing about it and refuse to give more advanced players any more control. That, sir, is purely offensive to my gaming abilities. Thus, I pray and hope for the day that he and the devs that agree with him get fired from Anet. Maybe then the Ranger will get better in a meaningful way.
Out of curiosity, do you take everything that happens around you so personally? Because I wonder whether it’s a matter of grudge against J. Sharp or a certain degree of “centre of the world syndrome”.
As much as I’m not a huge fan of many results of Johnathan Sharp’s work that we’ve seen so far (as it can be told from my posts on this forum so far, or at least those that did not get deleted), what he said back then is partially true. If we assume that its as Anet has claimed and Ranger is in fact the class that gets chosen by the new players most often (and I’m pretty sure Anet has access to statistical data specific enough to give them such info), then greeting those players with a pet controlled by a total of 7 or 8 keys is arguably not the best idea. It’s all about the learning curve, one of the absolute basics of MMO market. And like it or not, Anet will most likely prioritize the comfort of new players over demands of a portion of the older player base, because its more profitable and thus it is the sensible thing to do. Any other developer would do the same. After all, they’re all in it for the money.
To be completely honest, I doubt giving us control over pet skills can actually solve issues pets are plagued with. It may as well lead to even more severe problems. Pet’s AI is at this point hardly able to cope with 1 skill activated by the player, should we really assume that it would be better if there were 4 of them?
1st, don’t assume this is personal. It’s definitely a grudge against J. sharp and his ilk and their terrible decisions when it comes to the Ranger. Now that is settled… Your point about pet skills is valid and why I advocate loudly for a perma-stow option. It’s a win-win. People who like the pet don’t have to use them, and people that like the pet get to use them. I don’t see how this is a bad thing. It can only improve the Ranger.
Alternate legendary shortbow. Something sinister and deathly. Something not brony like the dreamer. I need some alternative to the dreamer, opposite to the dreamer. Something in the same sense as Sunrise and Twilight… I’m not a brony nor is my toon.

Ask anyone in my MLM guild on Crystal Desert my thoughts about John Sharp and they’ll tell you how I feel because they hear it every time someone asks about Rangers and pets. Yes, I tell them how I really feel. I can’t here because it’ll get deleted.
I guess you’re all forgetting John Sharp is the same guy that announced we are too dumb to have more control over our pets? So, we are stuck with minimal control. I guess you’re all forgetting John Sharp is the same guy that announced that two bear pets can rip the face off of any warrior in pvp? So, they nerfed the pets across the game. Oh, how quickly we forget. I, however, have not and will not.
I’m not sorry, I can’t wait until the day this guy and any dev who agrees with him is fired. I won’t be happy with my ranger another patch concerning the ranger until the option to perma-stow is given or the pet is fixed 100%/we are given complete control. Over 1000 hours on my ranger now and I’m done. Enjoying the shizznit out of my gaurdian though. I will continue to do so until I can get back on my favorite toon, my ranger. By the looks of those pre-patch notes, my gaurdian will be even better. Yay for me and my new main.
And for the record, I only PVE and dungeons (not FOTM), so Sic ’Em has never and will never see the light of day on my bar. Not when I can trait something else for more damage or tagging.
At this point a perma-stow option would be best as it has been a year and Anet cannot fix the pets. If they could they would have already.

Suggestion: put suggestions in the suggestion sub-section
And no. I like my loot.
After 1100 hrs I’ve pretty much retired my Ranger until the pet is fixed and given a perma-stow option. Right now it is a meat missile. There’s not enough options to manage it like required to make up for the lack of AI (it isnt going to dodge out of an AoE circle). John Sharp said we aren’t going to get that control because it scares away new players to the class. Well, that’s a big middle finger to anyone who isn’t new to the class. To make pets half decent and not die instantly you have to put 30 pts into BM and other trait lines have to be geared to the pet meaning your pet is the primary damage dealer and you’re there for support. I don’t understand why they the class ranger when it is clearly a Beastmaster. Would have saved a lot of grief had they named it correctly. So, now that my guardian is geared up, lvl 80, all maps open it is now my main. Not as fun as my Ranger to fight with but at least I don’t have to deal with bad AI.
Ha. Just be running my Guardian. Problem solved.
I’m 48 events short of completing my monthlies. This isn’t time gated content. You can complete it, as pointed out above, at any point you want. The new ascended recipes with a 24 hr cool down… That’s bad time gating.
I hate time gating. I hate hate hate it. I made one set of celestial for the ranger cause it can’t do any one thing great anyway. I will not be participating in anything other further time gated content.
Given what I saw on the live stream today. Legendaries were already a pretty bad grind… And then you still have to grind for gold. Or do as Anet hopes and buy gems with real US dollars and trade for in-game gold.
Mes is very fun to play. I haven’t touched the ele. If there was some constant speed buff I could use with the Mes that’d be my main. I imagine in the end I won’t have a main anymore. It’ll just be a choice between my five 80s that fits the situation best… Like when it comes time to use the forge I will use my Ranger — when I can perma-stow my pet my Ranger will be my main again.
I don’t want perma stow on the pet (unless they completely revamp the pet mechanic) because that’d just be a bandaid fix, but i’m sick of being second rate just due to my prof, it’s annoying. When i can go and play a mesmer or ele and be significantly better at them than my ranger just because they’re not kitten… somethings wrong (have been playing ranger almost exclusively, key word ALMOST, for over a year).
Hopefully they’ll just get their head out of their kitten and get us balanced WITHOUT 100% pet uptime in mind. Or make the pet actually able to do 100% pet uptime OR make the pet more like how BM hunters were in WoW where it was a lot of procs that buffed your pet which caused them to proc stuff to buff you.
It’s been a year. They aren’t going to fix it either because they don’t know how or don’t care to (like many of us have already concluded and was pointed out in the above posts). I think the bandaid fix of perma-stow is the best we can hope for.
Pretty obvious, fellyn. Getting ascended gear is even more of a grind now and since Teq will drop ascended related crafting item it can be thrown into that “grind” part.
If they new ascended weapons have the same drop rate as precursors from world boss chests, you might as well just accept your probabilty of getting one is so slim you would be more likely to win the $500 million lottery every year for the rest of your life.
Just for reference, the Karka Queen event goes for hundreds of hours on the CD server without being done quite regularly. I saw it go past 800 hours a month or two ago without being done.
GW2 is a treadmill just like any other MMO, just with more time gates I guess. Legendaries and ascended gear is proof of that. If you say otherwise you are simply denying the truth like an ostrich with it’s head buried.
No, Ryu, it is not. Not if the difficulty is too high for pug zerg.
Doesn’t matter anymore to me, Moyo. My Guardian has all the maps opened up and completely geared. So, it’s ready to be my new main.
not on ranger..its nice to have much precision but if you habe no crit dmg, their is still dmg that get lost
Sharpened edges: 2s bleed on crit @ 66% chance
Assassin’s is very nice for “on crit” type abilities which usually involve conditions. Sigil of earth, etc. I originally thought it was precision/power/crit dmg though (doh!) so maybe not so good for pve like I suggested above.
It is:
Explorer’s recipes will be replaced with the Assassin’s stat combo (Precision, Power, Critical Damage)
Although unless the 1st stat is boosted so that 1 and 2 stats aren’t the same I don’t see how it is going to be any different than zerker gear. And if the power is the same on zerker gear but prec is greater on assassin gear why go zerker at all? Should just go straight assassin (assuming crit is the same % as well).
Wait, you mean in PvP, which most players don’t care about?
Funny, that was my exact thought.

If you haven’t read it yet, I advise you click the link and go look at the info graphic posted in there. Ranger is the 2nd most picked profession. What I can’t understand is that if the Ranger is so popular, why does it seem like we are given the least priority? I mean, the pet to me is proof enough that we aren’t a priority given the major flaws (coughf2cough) that are still present in the pet AI and mechanic in general.
Honestly, at this point, I’d just be happy with a perma-stow option and that damage given back to the Ranger so they don’t have to worry about designing any content around the pet.
I would be genuinely surprised if you had enough people to complete the event without the farmers.
Necros are broken right now A-net can’t Handel more people getting mad at this. An they haven’t changed it cuz of pax. /gg
Fixed it for you.
You aren’t going to get this. You know how long people have been asking for a list of completed dungeons when you hover over it or something in the Achievement panel??? About a year.
Not seeing this as a bug, still. Haven’t seen a change what-so-ever. Working as intended. Get use to be a 2nd class citizen in this game if you’re a ranger. Our kitten -poor pet should be proof enough of that.
You know, if you could perma-stow your pet and get that 40%~ damage back, the point of balancing the pet around any type of gear would be moot
I’ve been having a good fun running it. It’s only the same vocal minority that have the inability to control others that are having issues with it.
Always starts on the hour
I have noticed over the past few days the more and more people have stopped caring about completing it after getting the achievements. Last night there was twice in a row there was barely anyone doing the minions unless there was a champ there.
Upset? lol! Me? Nah, snowflake. You have me confused for someone who cares.
Surpression is another thing working against commanders, hard to communicate with the map and organize a thing when you can’t speak.
OMFG. I can’t tell you how many times I’m trying to tell people where to WP to and I get message suppressed!! So freaking annoying and ruins good coordination.
Sometimes it glitches and you will receive the winning reward even though it was failed. Happened to me a few times.
Don’t worry. On Tuesday they will nerf the farming so hard that no one will want to do the event (see Queen’s Gauntlet) and you can have it all to yourself.
True. Then we’ll go back to farming something else.
Nathan, pointing out the complete and utter silliness of this farming QQ’ing is just plain fun. Again, suck it up son. It’s a game.
I tell you what. Send me $80 I paid for GW2 then you can have some say in the way I play. To have 100% say you’d have to pay for part of my mortgage, electric bill, internet bill, and a few other things. Otherwise, you snowflakes can quit the QQ’ing.
(edited by thefantasticg.3984)
Hate to break it to you snowflakes, but there’s more farmers than not.
It’s all most people do because most people have already completed the achievements associated with them.
Good luck all the same.
So glad so many of you whiners have nothing to do with the way this event is run (you don’t work for Anet). I love this event. I love farming it. I love failing it. I love completing it. Meaning: I’m having fun regardless. Because you don’t know how to have fun without winning the entire event is not my or anyone else’s problem but your own. Deal with it and leave the rest of us alone.
This forum would be dead silent if not for the QQ’ing.
So incredibly glad a lot you do not work for Anet. Love this event as is.
Why? Because if I did, you’d actually have to work hard to get good stuff?
Exactly, nub. I already do that at a place I like to call my “job” that I make real money at. I don’t want to make this game my job… so, quit trying to make everyone else play the way you want to.
So incredibly glad a lot you do not work for Anet. Love this event as is.
My client crashes a lot. Crashed a lot before this patch and has continued after.
What is the error code you are getting?
Why? Because it’s better to succeed than to fail? You also get so much more loot by winning.
No. No you don’t. Don’t lie to people. You get one more bag/box each. That’s it and that’s assuming your map has made it to the final phase. I’ve failed/won enough to know.
I see it differently: zergers/farmers aren’t rewarded enough to make the entire event worth completing.
The only difference between failing on final phase and winning on final phase is one bag/box each from the rewards. Really? I’ll just zerg more AB and make that difference up and then some.
Also, if you don’t like zergs, then just don’t join them?
Make a choice instead of trying to force everyone to do what a single person wants who has no power what so ever!? Silliness.
The farmers and completers just finished one of the event with 15 mins to spare… Not to shabby.
I’d like to read that v.2 thread.
Nope. Not bugged to me. Working as intended.
It’s not wrong. That’s where the undeniable part comes in…
