Lordrosicky.5813 said it. All of the ppl who love wvw , end up broke.
I have well over 12 gold…. and I play WvW almost exclusively…
The only people who should be doing upgrades on towers and keeps should be the guilds claiming them. Individual players should not really be breaking their bank for an upgrade.
Here’s the transcript from the interview. It happened at a game dev conference in Poland.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/19473-interview-gw2-qa-cd-projekt-conference/
it’s somewhere in the middle of the interview and progression and the level cap are touched upon.
Pizza doesn’t cost much, buy one every day and they add up.
Play only one character ever, moving forward, you won’t have to grind much for Ascended.
Play one of each profession and you could end up doing nothing but chasing the carrot forever. But this is neither here nor there. As for people who are saying the Ascended increase is negligible…
Rings only: 0.85% damage over someone in Exotics
Greatsword only: 6.48% damage over someone in Exotics.
Greatsword and rings: 7.19% damage increase over someone in Exotics. It shouldn’t be too hard to see what the difference becomes when you add up all the gear, and then with infusions on top it gets even higher.
Don’t make up pretend numbers…
Actual numbers, a ring will be less than that. Of course it depends on build and all, but getting all 3 ascended items will be around 1.25% increase in damage if you’re going power-style.
There is no ascended greatsword, and we’ll have to wait and see if/when ascended weapons are added.
For the time being, if you do or if you don’t, doesn’t very much matter.
Using actual number for actual items in game — We’re looking at shaving a second or two off a two-minute boss fight.
They did accidently increase Legendary weapons to what is presumably the level of their ascended counterparts before correcting it.
The thing is though, we do not know if that is the finalized stats.
What server are you on for WvW?
Do not go it alone, stick with a group, and aim to survive. I’ve made plenty of cash in WvW. If you stick with a group and capture points, you will gain rewards. You have absolutely no reason to go alone. Best way is look for a commander icon, or ask in /m where help is needed, and just follow the largest group.
Hilarious how many people say they made money at WvW.
Well good for you. You are another pointless WvW player who never bought an upgrade in his life then. Without upgrades you lose WvW. The tiny number of us who pay for 100% of every upgrade ourselves (thanks for failing Anet) are permenently BROKE because of WvW.
Thats why lots of people have quit WvW.
And OP- yes if you wanna make money you have to do dungeons and fractals. Also if you wanna get the best gear YOU HAVE TO do fractals.
Or you know, you work with a WvW centric guild that has a pool of funds dedicated to upgrades? No one person should pay for an upgrade on their own…
Honestly, Jormag makes the most sense. Like ThiBash said, he’s the closest, and being able to fight him would be a matter of adding the Far Shiverpeaks to the game.
That being said though, I’m somewhat hoping for Bubbles and Cantha in future releases. With Zhaitan’s undead navy being broken down, could anybody else picture this- maybe with one of the Orders or a seperate group, you’re trying to make contact with Cantha for the first time in 200 years. As you’re on the ocean, something attacks the ship, maybe Bubbles or his minions. Your character blacks out and wakes up in Shing Jea, and there starts a new campaign.
Can anybody else see it?
I actually could see this, it’d be pretty cool.
Here’s an interview someone did on guildwars2guru back in September 2011 directly addressing the increase to level cap
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/19473-interview-gw2-qa-cd-projekt-conference/
you’ll have to dig in for the information regarding the level cap
So… did anyone from ArenaNet ever actually say there would be a stat cap?
No, they have said the exact opposite. They have planned higher levels and expansions from day one. With those come stats raises.
Not to mention this was actually stated in 2011, which people who claim they followed the development of this game seem to have missed.
I’d like to read that. I’ve been looking for it by googling Do you have a link?
What I have found after a brief exploration via google/bing:
“We will not be retaining the level 20 cap. [from GW1] We will announce the exact nature and level of the Guild Wars 2 level cap early next year but let me state that our philosophy of allowing players to play the game without grinding their life away is something that is unchanged from Guild Wars 1.” – Lead designer Eric Flannum
You can see here that implication; they are connecting “an unchanged philosophy from GW1” to answering a question about the level cap. In GW2, there was a hard cap of 20. A reasonable inference is that that philosophy would continue on in GW2.
Best I can do is this forum thread from back in June that directly quotes the interviews where the level cap issue was stated. (There’s a poll at the top of the page, scroll down to the posts to see the quotes.)
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/40868-should-level-cap-rise-with-future-expansions/
There are supposed to be links in the thread, but the way the post is, it cuts out most of the actual URL so they don’t work, but they all link to specific instances where someone from ANET stated that at expansion release, caps can go up or just about expansions in general (which may I add will apparently require an original copy of the game vs. being standalone)
You can probably get the URL’s to work by copy and pasting them into google and digging them out from live sites from there.
I got the first link concerning expansion plans already
Note that some of these quotes specifically mention progression, and these are all from pre-release

If it’s a human holiday, they could base it in Divinity’s Reach instead.
It’s such a shame all that development of the racial cities, to have them barren ghost towns.
Doesn’t part of the event description specifically state the giant airship will visit all racial cities before going to LA?
Hey Lefty. I’m probably not taking a huge break, but trying to get some perspective. I’m really burned out on Fractals and there are so many other good games coming out. I’m kinda concerned that with vertical progression I will get left behind.
I wouldn’t worry too much, Anet admitted to screwing up with Fractals, they will have Ascended gear released everywhere else shortly including WvW.
It’s at the point where I won’t bother with Fractals either anymore and just continue with WvW. I take breaks everyonce in a while too, I take a week off, play some Halo or something and come back and don’t have issues.
They said there’s an update concerning WvW coming very shortly aswell so I’d atleast wait and see what that entails.
If I leave GW2 for six months and come back, will I be able to play all of the content in the game? Keep in mind I am level 80 in full exotics.
Whats up Boors.
Depends on the release date of future full on expansions (which may increase the level cap) I’m willing to bet that won’t happen for more than a year though, so until then you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.
“Bubbles”
He’s the deep sea dragon, he drove the Krait, Quaggan, Karka and the Lagos out of their homes in the deep sea. I assume the Lost Shores was designed as a bit of a primer.
If I stop for a year and come back, I don’t want to find an outdated character.
They said they wouldn’t stop the game’s evolution just for people leaving for a year during the AMA, just that they’d make it relatively easy for them to get back if they want. If the level cap is raised during your absence, you’ll be able to catch up quickly as you return. They said it doesn’t make sense to develop a game for people that don’t actually play the game – and they’re right imo.
Exactly, if you go away for a year, you aren’t playing the game, and potentially not buying gems. Or influencing the sale of gems. You find a fancy precursor, or really rare item and sell it on the TP, you could potentially create the need for someone else to go and buy gems so there is value to your continued playing.
If you aren’t playing for a solid year, why should the game be built for you and not the people that are actually playing?
The grind for a stat increase of 1%…something meant to be achieved by working for it an hour a day for a period of time for casual gamers, or all at once for hardcore gamers.
Yes, the stat increase is honestly not worth it anyways. I did just aswell in WvW without it.
They said back in 2011 that they would increase the level cap, and again during the AMA they said it. The intention was always there, and they have said it during development. It was a fact that was ignored or glossed over.
But there´s a big difference now to pre-release and the original version of the game and to what everyone expected: exotics are not that hard to get and everyone expected to easily get max stats again on level 90 (or whatever), the grind for ascended gear makes this completely different.
And yes, this should not be overlooked when we discuss ascended gear and what it takes for us to get it now: it may all be outdated with a new level-cap next year.
The Temporary grind.
They’ve already acknowledged the roll out was flawed, and they are making ascended gear easier to obtain.
Besides, the only grind I experienced when getting my backpiece was for the vial of fractal essence or w/e its called. I had a majority of the mats already (been saving alot of gold, ectos and tier 6 mats from pretty much the earliest opportunity) and my total cost to obtain this gear was minimal.
It was the same with my exotics. I didn’t bother spending any karma, and when I hit 80 I had 4 of my pieces of armour instantly. Took me 2 more days to get the rest.
NO, if my friends were interested in an MMO, I would recommend PlanetSide 2 or suggest waiting for Elder Scrolls Online.
Planetside 2 isn’t the same as GW2. They are entirely different games.
It’s a FPS shooter with vehicles so you can’t really compare it to this. I play both Planetside and Guildwars and enjoy them both.
For those who missed the AMA, Mike O’Brien and Chris Whiteside keep mentioning a “shallow power increase”.
Yes or no, is this a good idea?
As far as I’m concerned: no. Bad idea. Keep this power increase bs out of the game.
Also hypothetical level increases were mentioned. Give your opinion.
For me, also a big no. If I stop for a year and come back, I don’t want to find an outdated character.
A shallow power increase is nothing really to worry about.
You finding an outdated character is going to be inevitable anyways. There was never any avoiding it. They said back in 2011 that they would increase the level cap, and again during the AMA they said it. The intention was always there, and they have said it during development. It was a fact that was ignored or glossed over. An increased level cap will mean that your character will inevitably be outdated.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/19873-level-cap-increase-in-expansions/
A much bigger threat than Ascendant gear is the raised level cap.
Seriously, they’re planning on raising the level cap, and said as much in the AMA.
So your exotic sets, AND the Ascendant gear? Are all going to be obsoleted. Even if the Ascendant gear had never been added, your exotics would have been outleveled.
They said they were going to raise the level cap in 2011… people glossed over it or ignored it. It’s not new news but alot of people seem to think it is. Sadly people seem to only have selective beliefs.
New or old, the point is that they’re planning to do it, and overreacting to a new gear tier is pretty much overlooking the fact that the gear is going to be obsoleted one way or another.
Oh i know, just felt that people should know how long ago they mentioned the fact that level 80 would be obsolete in due time.
A much bigger threat than Ascendant gear is the raised level cap.

I mean they are trying guys give them a chance. People are treating this game like it been out a year. And that is really not fair at all.
Not to mention this is there first ever dynamic MMO. GW1 was too instanced to even be considered a proper MMO. It was more of a cooperative multiplayer RPG.
They’ve never done a living, breathing world before, so they even have a lot of learning to do.
So the majority of the AMA can be summarised as “vertical progression is here to stay, get used to it”. Can they please start fixing the rest of the game now and perhaps do a follow-up that purposefully answers the other questions posed?
The problem was, people kept repeating the questions about the Ascended gear making it pretty difficult to tackle other questions.
Oh come on, the Manifesto was pretty darn clear. And it’s not like they ever made an effort to correct any of the pre-purchase fans who expressed their delight in countless threads about not suffering through an end-game gear grind.
Nor did they drop by to reassure potential players who were interested in the game but worried about a lack of horizontal progression, even though those players were constantly told by fans that they should play something else instead.
If the Manifesto itself didn’t convict them, their silence did.

I’m just curious because so many people quote it but I’m not sure exactly what they’re quoting.
If you would have played GW1 you would understand why. In addition, the manfiesto clearly states that GW2 will not be a grindy game. Well, this most definitively changed.
And there is also the “We take all the stuff you loved about GW1 …” statement, which the gamer never stood up to.
It hasn’t changed, the grind was always there….
I’ve not read this thread, nor will I; I have seen enough of how this community’s players interact with each other over the past few weeks. I make this message for ArenaNet to read.
Since about one month after release I have been very critical of this game, and of ArenaNet. I do not feel the need to apologize for anything I have said, and I stand by all previous comments.
However, I would like to thank Chris Whiteside for his remarkable effort on the AMA yesterday. I had VERY low expectations of that event. I thought he would come in for an hour or so and cherry pick a few of the most butt-kissing soft-ball questions asked, thank everyone, and go back to work. I was delighted to be so very wrong. He stood tall and faced some of the most pointed, angry, and difficult questions asked. No, he didn’t have time to answer everything, and he didn’t answer hardly anything about PvP. I can forgive him for that. He did say that he wanted to schedule more of these AMAs soon to discuss PvP in more detail since he didn’t get a chance to discuss it much. I am willing to wait for that contentedly.
I did not care for all of his answers, but I am now more willing to wait and see how things change as time goes on with this game than I was yesterday morning. And I am more willing to ease back a bit on my criticism of ArenaNet for the time being, adjusting as necessary based on the direction the game takes in the near future.
In short, thank you, Chris, for your communication yesterday. Your company has not yet won this fan back, the future will determine that, but you, personally, have gained a big one. I think 8 hours of facing tough questions (half of that time was put in after hours from his home), while being under the weather, is an heroic effort that this community IN ITS ENTIRETY should stand up and applaud.
I fully agree with the point you are making with this post. Chris really did do this community a service with his AMA. Regardless if you liked his answers or not, or whether you agree with the direction of the game. You do have to give this guy credit. Not many developers would take up so much of their time to cater to so much negativity. Some of the questions asked were incredibly disrespectful. I believe one basically stated they pretty much hated the dev team for Ascended gear, and I feel that was uncalled for really.

Alot of the time many are probably not sure as to why they are quoting it either.
Really, I still think they’ve achieved the goals they stated they wanted to achieve. This is the only MMO I’ve ever played to max level, and the only one that has been able to hold my attention for more than a month.
Flynch that link is nuked by my security suite so not sure what the heck was posted but it isn’t something I’ll be looking into. Thanks for trying though. I’m pretty paranoid about links no matter what site I’m on and gaming sites are quite honestly pretty bad.
Seriously can we get a list of just the Q @ A without this wall of text and arguments ?

It’s a google doc, should hopefully not have any issues with securtiy
@tkalamba
Planetside 2 has also some kind of vertical progression, you can e.g. boost your hitpoints with certs and not all weapons are equally powerfull. But you are right about the fact that GW2 never really had horizontal progression, at least not like GW1.
I’m just saying it probably has the best example out there. I’m aware there are still HP and armour boosts, but they are also used in place of other upgrades, further pushing the specialized play aspect of it.
Leaving isn’t in my interest…
I just won’t play the new content that requires a grind. Plenty of game left outside that and if all the expansions seriously require the grind – well the only thing I did learn from the AMA is that they think the requirements for getting said tier is a bit much so – perhaps by the time I get bored of current content I will have the basics to get into the locked-away stuff.
Good things come to those who wait… 5 years in development and we finally have a playable game. Perhaps in another year the bugs will be worked out and a better roll-out for new content will have been established. If not I can quit later, for now this is still a great game. Haven’t felt like I wasted time trying for nothing yet…
This is probably the best way to approach it regardless of your point of view on everything. This game is catering to so many people, with so many tastes, there is plenty you can do if you don’t like certain aspects.
So … while I salute Chris ultra dedication for this AMA (9 hours straight, wow) …
He didn’t give answers on the most important topic about current boredom :“PD1: GW1 had hundreds of skills for each of it’s classes. Can we expect skill additions for GW2 as well? If so, will they only be added in expansions? Are there plans to add them with major non-expansion content updates?”
(and moreover, PD1 to PD4)
I was waiting for this precise answer to know if I’d log on again …
People were so maniac with the gear questions that he duplicated the same answer about it around 10 times. I don’t play for gear, I play for playing the game. It’s crazy how majority of players are still obsessive with the shiny armor syndrome.
What you’re asking for may not be feasible in a dynamic world where balance is key. You simply cannot balance hundreds of skills and please everyone. Honestly, Gw1 and Gw2 are such different games, many of the mechanics are simply not translatable.
You won’t be seeing hundreds of skills like before, atleast not profession based skills. New skills will likely be tied to new weapon types. Simplicity in this case works, especially if this game is intended for casuals. Increasing the skill count makes it that much harder for people to learn the game and get into it.
Balancing skills is actually a job, where people are paid to work on it
It would be like saying “expecting a mmo world to be visually gorgeous is irrealistic, as it would require too much occlusion culling”.
(= intelligently using player’s available point of views to reduce the amount of distant visible objects)I understand it’s a job, but so many games already get it wrong. Hundreds of skills doesn’t make the game fun all of a sudden. To some people it just simply complicates things.
However, I too would like some new skills, but I don’t want this to be a game where there are too many to choose from. There are already balance issues, let them fix those first, and then let them worry about skills.
Actually we wouldn’t need “hundreds of new skills on our bar” to spice up the fights.
There are already tools in place in the game’s core design to allow some pretty amazing evolutions. For example, what if all skills were working like some classes’ first autoattack ? aka : press skill#1 -> effect 1, becomes skill#1b -> effect 2, becomes skill#1c, etc, and if you don’t press in time, it resets to skill#1aThis mechanic alone, which is already coded, could clearly add tons of depth into current system if it was applied to every skills (normals, utility, environmental, etc)
Want another layer of depth on top of that ? Make, for example, a trait that would give skill#2c the ability to turn skill#1 into skill#1c directly.
Another one ? Make a trait that would reset skill#3’s longer CD anytime you do a critical damage with skill#1b.
There, it’s just a rough idea, but you get it.
And for people who wouldn’t want that level of complexity, well they would just not take those traits, but simpler ones, like currently implemented.
For people who wouldn’t want their skills to change so dynamically on button press like skill#1, there could also just be some sort of “lock skill” option for each one. Balance the locking by making it slightly more powerful.Anyway, just ideas on a forum during work pause time, but you get the idea.
Evolving the trait system would be interesting. I actually wouldn’t mind a bit more complexity out of it.
First of all: They DID say what their intentions for the game were, and you should really read Mike O’s answers. They came out and took the time to tell us where the game is going. That was due and very appreciated.
I suggest you guys read EVERY answer by them before you claim they say something they didn’t or reducing this to a PR spin and the other words people are spurting so often that they’re losing their meaning.
Chris:
http://www.reddit.com/user/ArenaNetTeam
Mike O:
http://www.reddit.com/user/Mike-OBrien-ArenaNetTo people believing there’s no treadmill: They already said the level cap will increase at some point, probably in expansions. Guess what? gear stats will increase too. Chris was also VERY careful and made a disclaimer every time so people don’t call him liar later. Stats WILL increase, rarity tiers will not increase FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. Wake up!
Honestly, people just need to see this game never actually had true horizontal progression.
The best example I like to use of Horizontal progression is Planetside 2, and its an MMO FPS. Battlerank (pretty much levels) only unlock emblems. You get certification points as you play, pretty much in lieu of actual experience, to unlock new gear, which only serve as what they called sidegrades (serve different purposes, but don’t necessarily mean they are better).
No stats, no tiers of weapons, and you could play the game, and play it really well, with never unlocking a single gun.

That didn’t really answer it. Nexon would have pushed on NCsoft, and NCsoft would have pushed ArenaNet. There would never have been any contact between Nexon and ArenaNet.
So what you are saying is this. Nexon who within the last few months bought a small part of NCsoft. Nexon knows nothing about GW2 or Anet, and has never had any contact with them in anyway. Nexon somehow goes to NCsoft, and makes vague pressures about a game they have no idea about, thus forcing NCsoft to go to Anet and pressure them into some drastic change in said game that Nexon knows none of the workings of. That is quite the logic train there.
You really have no idea how corporations work do you? Nexon’s $688 million purchase of NCsoft isn’t a ‘hope’ that NCosft is going to be successful and they turn a little bit of profit. When a corporation purchases a part of another corporation, they expect profit in the realm of ten or twenty times what paid for it. They aren’t going to just invest that kind of money and sit on their hands. They had to have plans far larger than playing the role of a gigantic day trader.
Umm…yea….so that huge 14.7% (lol) that Nexon owns of NCsoft allows them to just walk in the door and start throwing around their weight. If you get this worked up about a video game and bust out that tinfoil hat then I shudder to see how you feel about actual things that matter.
Correct me if i’m wrong, but doesn’t this 14.7% make them the biggest single major shareholder?
Still not a controlling share of a company. They cannot make the decisions with less than 15%. They just stand to profit with sales of the game.

Nothing about lag/latency. I’ve been keeping an eye on this for a while now, as it is severely impacting my ability/want to play. I am holding out for an official answer soon though.
Lag and Latency sounds more like a localized issue vs. a widespread issue. I’m not sure that many people are being effected by it, but I could be wrong.
Yeah, it’s a decently big deal, check the tech forums. More interesting though is that the complaints all cropped up right when lost shores was implemented. It’s definitely server-side.
Ahh I see, I don’t spend alot of time in the technical forums clearly.
ok, there is no way he missed all those questions … he’s not answering questions about the loot drop bug
People are making it a bit difficult for him to tackle everything. Too many repeat questions are burying new unanswered questions.
He can’t even tackle the list from here, as he wants to balance between those, and questions from the reddit community and is getting overwhelmed by people asking about the philosophy or the direction of the game.
“Hi Time,
We are still finalizing the design on both your question and your suggestion. If we were to discuss it it would likely change and therefore be misleading info. I think that moving forward we should be more communicative about our design once we have a good idea of our plans before it is executed upon. This is just an off the cuff idea but i can certainly see its value.
chris”
I see they atleast acknowledged the question I had brought up earlier, I’d be interested to see how this gets implemented. I’m fine with either option, but assume creating ascended gear for every rune and sigil would be such a waste of time.
thanks for posting Timebomb
You could be right, but they are wasting everyone’s time. Many people want other questions, completely unrelated to the patch answered. People should start reading the thread and already answered questions.
As I understand Chris is choosing what questions to answer so its hardly the fault of the questioner.
The question has been answered, several times. Asking the exact same question over and over again serves no purpose. Especially if it’s already been answered.
I’m a little disappointed that questions regarding grinding, ascended gear, and ANet’s philosophy on those two points seem to be dominating most of the Q&A. It’s like.. how many ways can the same questions be asked and answered? Let’s move on to something else, already.
Edge, I think they’re trying to ask the question in multiple structures to try to see if the answers are inconsistent. It’s like those psych evaluations you fill out as you apply for a job asking:
“33. Agree or disagree: It is okay to bend the rules once in a while.”
“72. Agree or disagree: Policy must be followed at all times.”
You could be right, but they are wasting everyone’s time. Many people want other questions, completely unrelated to the patch answered. People should start reading the thread and already answered questions.

I’m curious if the implementation was such a mistake and so many aspects around ascended gear was done wrongly and they knew it wasn’t how they wanted to go about doing things Why did they push it through?
Never used Reddit so perhaps someone could ask this for me.
It was already asked, twice. Both times it was ignored.
I think it should be ignored; there are very few times when a company should air out who . . . exactly . . . made what decision . . . precisely . . . just because someone asks. All that needs to be said is “that decision was made, it was a mistake, we’re hoping to rectify it”.
They already admitted it was not implemented well, they’ll try to fix it and try to not repeat this in the future. Asking for someone specific to lay the blame on is . . . a little petty.
Except the issue isn’t about implementation, it is about the fact that it exists at all. The whole idea that it wasn’t implemented well is a poor deflection.
The issue about “so whose idea was it” isn’t about implementation either, it’s about assigning blame to one person after pretty much the team said “yes, that’s on us”.
Notice the original post. Why did they push it through? It’s interesting that you are trying to deflect this specific conversation.
. . . maybe because at this point the “why” isn’t as important as the fact that it happened? That this fallout fractured the community and made so many people upset at ArenaNet or specific people within their employ. That they’re left in this position where there is a very real possibility this game is going to be bombed out of existence by people unhappy with this, and their work on this is wasted.
“Why?” is the least of my concerns. “What are you folks going to do about it?” is what I think is the most important thing.
. . . and I meant ArenaNet, not you.
That why is very important. If that why is because Nexon purchased 14.% of NCsoft, then there is zero hope ArenaNet will see the error of their ways and we can just move on quietly.
Ah! Well, that could be important to you, very well . . .
They did answer that:
That didn’t really answer it. Nexon would have pushed on NCsoft, and NCsoft would have pushed ArenaNet. There would never have been any contact between Nexon and ArenaNet.
It’s certainly plausible, but there are three options now:
- They’re lying outright and Nexon does indeed have a say. They know Nexon has a say, and it is unavoidable.
- They don’t know if Nexon has a say since it would route through NCsoft. So their statement is correct only in the way that they are unaware of it.
- They’re correct entirely and Nexon has nothing to do with how ArenaNet develops content.Take your pick, I only accept #3 because I assume they wouldn’t bother lying about it blatantly if it was true, only answer it with a further nonanswer such as “there are no Nexon representitives currently in this office today”.
From what I understood, the stake Nexon has is nowhere enough to be considered a controlling share of the company. They won’t really be able to dictate the state of the game. They just stand to make some profit if it is successful.
They are the largest shareholder which means they have the largest influence at shareholder meetings.
Shareholder meetings don’t dictate the direction a game takes though. They may influence some future acquisitions and the like, but day to day matters, and the general state of a game won’t be affected by that 15% stake.

“HI All,
you are definitely not to late for questions. i am just taking a breather and then i will start answering some more. I would imagine that i will be continuing with the AMA for at least another 4 hours.
Chris”
He’s goin to be at it for a bit.
Also, a vocal minority cannot overtake Reddit, they would get downvoted to oblivion.
Valid concerns of the majority of players will naturally rise to the top.Would you say their concerns there are pretty much in line with those stated at the Official Forum for GW2 here?
Some yes, but they’ve become a pretty obvious minority. Reddit has grown to dislike anyone who constantly repeats the same complaints over and over again. A majority are more worried about bugged events, and other issues, Ascended gear talk has basically disappeared aside from an odd post everyonce in a while.
More generally, I hope we’ve been clear that GW2 is not a game with virtually no stat progression in it like GW1 was. That’s why GW2 shipped with a higher level cap, and with a hard separation between PvE and PvP. In GW1 we never advanced the level cap through four campaigns/expansions. The game design didn’t allow for it. But GW2 was designed without those restrictions, and we’ve always expected that we will someday raise the level cap in GW2.
BOOO! Please do not increase the level cap!
It’s been stated several times it would happen… both prelaunch and atleast once with the AMA. It isn’t and shouldn’t have been news to people.

why dont you use your own channels to communicate with your own gamers?
do i need an account at facebook, twitter, reddit etc. to stay up to date?
make that optional, but not mandatory.
2)
why do you close/ merge / delete all threads with constructive feedback?
the op cant do anything bout flame, offtopic, etc.
dont infract him, infract the ones who fale or go offtopic, but dont close or delet threads.
3)
do more communicate with your costumers.
" thanks for your question" is like politics.

dont use the “Moderator”-account anymore.

If you just would answer these questions,
alot of ppl would know if they will stay or leave.
greatingshe has answered 6 of them..and they have used reddit since beta to communciate with fans and others who might be interested
Reddit is viewed by far more people than the ingame forums. Using reddit allows for higher reach.
why schould reddit get more ppl than this board?
reddit is viewed by far more people, right.
but do they all play or care bout GW2?The subreddit (which is a Guildwars 2 specific section) has roughly 79,000 subscribers, which is likely a higher active user count than these forums. Also, comscore (online metrics tool) tells me that that reddit not only has a much higher reach, but much higher rate of unique visitors, and a much higher time spent metric.
I’m willing to be Anet knows this. Also, reddit is much more influencial than a game’s official forum. Things on reddit will, and do get picked up much quicker than forum posts. It’s a simple matter of reddit simply having more klout, and being generally more informative as a community.

Exactly, in essence its a much better representation of the players feelings and concerns.

What a sad cluster. Is this how a professional game company does a question and answer? What was the point to that trainwreck.
I do not sponsor people but in this case Lorechief did a kitten fine job in collecting a varied and believable set of questions from the community and Anet simply ignored it and the clowns hosting this fiasco did not push the issue for want of angering the developers. Very sad hosting, poorly done and unprofessional.
Anet developers contradicted themselves, the worst was the developers stating they KNEW what was going to happen when the vertical progression went into effect and yet they did not have any fixes in place and the devs stated they have learned lessons in this regard ad naseum, etc, etc.
“We have learned lessons moving forward”, i am so tired of reading that. Is anyone in charge at ANET?
The devs would have been safer not answering questions at all since everything they stated was already “guessed” by players posting on other threads regarding what would happen to certain aspects of the game, meaning players already know the aftermath of the dev failures and devs simply stating the obvious did not answer anything.
It is a mathmatical oddity that the devs release content and then back track or apologize stating they KNEW what was going to happen in regards to feedback and yet….there is never anything in place to fix those mistakes, except excuses…..and why have the mistakes or poor ideas in the first place if you know something will not work?
Pathetic. I guess the new business model is to half donkey things and apologize afterword….moving forward.
Um… he is answering your questions, as well as many other questions posted by others. There’s alot of overlap… and you guys collected 60+ questions. The guy is even answering them from home…. what else could you possible ask for?

He answered 6 af all these questions?
I do count more than 60+ quesions.
These aren’t the only questions being asked, give the guy some time to get to them. He’s at 9 now, and he’s answered other questions the Reddit community has. The forums aren’t the only place people who play GW2 congregate.
Not to mention, alot of the questions out of those 60 had already been asked by reddit users.
