RNG and Grind in GW2 is not that bad

So basically from what I been reading about what you want is to play a game for rewards and not just for the sake of having fun.

Would you mind if the devs decided to make it so that your account got no drops/rewards whatsoever, while everyone else’s remained normal? According to your logic, you wouldn’t mind at all, because you play the hame for fun, not for rewards.

On the whole, it’s not so bad. But in certain areas, such as buying dyes from the cash shop and getting a precursor from the Mystic Forge, this game blows any Korean grinder out the water.

The only difference is that these things are optional, which is a big difference, but the rng aspect of it is still abysmal.

Anyway as I said in a post above, I don’t care what anyone has to say about his or my response. The point is, facts are facts. 16k HMB from Wanze and no giant eyes. 750 LMB and 5 giant eyes from me. Facts are facts. Numbers are numbers.

Except it is not a fact, as I have had Giant Eyes drop from Heavy Moldy Bags. Are you also calling me a liar, as well as the name you just called me in your private message?

You see, the delivery is everything here, in this muted environment. There’s no tone of voice, no gesturing, etc. No one likes being told they’re wrong, straight up. Which is precisely what Vol did. If you see it as condescending then I guess that’s your issue.

Yes, it couldn’t possibly be your issue, could it, or that you actually were being condescending. Or lilith’s issue about being told they are wrong. The delivery was fine and more accurate information was provided.

Was calling them a snarky little kitty necessary? For saying they were wrong? A bit aggressive, don’t you think? I understand why you’d defend this behaviour though, clearly without tone of voice or hand signals you are unable to take things as they are, but I guess that’s your issue.

Perhaps the wiki could be updated. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Giant_Eye

Says only available from HMB’s. I personally have never had one from a LMB or a mob, but yeah, I wont be stating that they only drop from HMB’s, for obvious reasons! :p

I did open 6.5k large moldy bags but i wont disclose the droprate here.

Why not?

Well aren’t you just a snarky little kitty.

I’ve seen them drop from large but not from heavy, which is why I provided the info I did.

And the info you provided is wrong, so you were told as such. Nothing they said to you was rude, only your reply to it was.

I think the delivery needs a little work. Being a bit more constructive and less in-your-face about how someone’s information might be slightly incorrect will do wonders.

I don’t understand how people are thinking the comment was out of line. Person A says something incorrect, person B calmly corrects them with the correct information, Person A gives a sarcastic, overtly defensive reply while person C (you) gives condescending and unnecessary life advice.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the comment.

That said, yes, Giant Eyes are ridiculously hard to come by:

I think all of them are fun so I had a hard time to choose, but ele won out in the end. Dual daggers is just crazy fun!
Still, I’m surprised that warriors is placed so low considering how many I see ingame.

Yeah, I expected to see Ele at or near the top, because they are the greatest, but I also expected to see Guard/Warr up there too, due to how many of them there are. I wonder if people are actually aware that their class is really boring but they play it because it’s easymode/good farmer.

how do I stop autoattacking...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tomlin.8204

tomlin.8204

Yeah it’s absolutely infuriating, I usually smash ESC as fast as I can until that bloody box starts popping up and my character finally stops attacking.

I think the problem for me is that the character “remembers” the buttons you’ve pressed/spammed up to 2 commands, so if you press 111 really quickly you’ll do 3 attacks, and I think this is really annoying especially if the target dies and your 3rd attack hits a new one (I JUST WANT TO WP OUT OF HERE GAWWWD STOP ATTACKING STUFF!)
I don’t want to switch off the auto target on attack setting either, I just want my character to stop attacking when I stop pressing buttons (but I also want to leave auto attacks on)

I just want that “lag” to stop.

Warrior/Guardian

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Honestly I found Guardian the most boring profession to play out of everything. It’s slow and clunky, with none of the weapons being any fun to play (“for me” before all the Guards jump down my throat). My main is an Ele so of course I will find the Guardian boring, though I did however quite enjoy Warrior. It feels faster and less of a wimpy playstyle than the Guardian – more like you’re charging at stuff and trying to smash its face into the ground rather than slobber all over it with your blue slime-drool and bore it to death.

I see this thread pop up from time to time and my answer/thoughts are always the same: the game has evolved a bit and yes many things have been added, but the core of the game is still the same, and honestly I’d see no reason for you to enjoy it now if you didn’t back then. Sounds like your biggest gripe was lack of Trinity, and we still don’t have that.

There are, however, more group events which require co-operation now. Things will fail if people don’t pay attention, whereas before you could just afk auto-target on every boss.

Which of the servers has the nicest people?

Maguuma. We have the nicest guilds and the most skilled players in all the game.

This comment would really put me off Maguuma. An elitist attitude vouching for the niceness of others makes it seem suspect.

Personally I did not like any EU server I used to play on, so I moved to NA, but if I were to go back to EU I’d look into Piken Square.

Saying that you think a group of players are the most skilled does not equal elitest. people just throw that word around randomly these days.

Depends on context. Why is he saying “We have the most skilled players in all the game”? It’s not really relevant to the question, and comes across as arrogant, or whichever negative word you’d prefer me to use, as you have such an issue with “elitist”. It’s also rather presumptuous. Most skilled at what? Everything in the whole game? How could you possibly know such things?

I’ve always had a slight bitter taste in my mouth when it comes to Legendaries. They are definitely overrated, especially now with Ascended being on par with them, stat-wise. I think they often make people greedy and irritating, linking their progress in chats every 5 minutes because you know, everyone cares so much. It’s also boring to see every other character looking identical to the last – a Guardian with a Legendary Greatsword.

They are quite cool though, if not a tad annoying in group events. The fact you’ll never have to upgrade it if stronger weapons are released is cool (although who knows when they’ll do that again? Maybe never)

In saying this I did make Meteorlogicus recently… I’ve been playing since release and had no other use for the gold or mats I’ve saved since then. But it wasn’t all I ever thought and talked about.

I dislike the sound that waypoints make. If I use one to get anywhere I have to get away from it fast – VERY FAST.

I have long loading screens and a short attention span so I usually read various forums whenever I travel somewhere, then 30 minutes later I realise that the waypoint noise has been irritating me for a long time although during this time I felt quite relaxed.

I never liked how that man says “Don’t take your eyes off of it” at Jormag. Saying “off” and “of” next to each other is probably the stupidest sound a human mouth can make. I don’t consider myself an immersion player but if I did, this line would really break it for me, and remind me that I’m not actually in the Guild Wars universe, but the thinkings of an American that doesn’t know any better.

Reads more like people are bored with their real life and expecting WAY too much from a video game. Get out of the house and get some sun! Come back to the game if you feel like it. This isn’t a replacement for real life enjoyment and passion.

Sun? What’s that again? It’s January and I live in Britain: there is no “sun”. But I get out the house plenty. My job entails working in forests, woodlands and workshops, being in nature. I’m not expecting a second life here, but I am expecting there to be something that I want to do.

You’re argument doesn’t make sense

No, this sentence doesn’t make sense. “I am argument doesn’t make sense?” What kind of sentence is that?

because the content isn’t even out yet so you can’t even criticize it.

I didn’t. My posts here have said absolutely nothing on the content of this upcoming update. My criticisms have actually all been on anything other than updates, the things in between the updates, perhaps you didn’t read the post where I said how great some of the previous updates have been. That or you just have selected reading to try and back up your false claims.

Now if the content was out and you made a thread about what you didn’t like and about Anet disappointing you then it would completely make sense

But would probably still be preachily challenged by your “glass half full” philosophy.

but the fact that he and you is saying that whatever they come out with is kitten when you don’t even know what it is makes no contribution at all and doesn’t affect anything but other people’s optimism which just isn’t good for anything. Make sense? Thanks.

Where did I say this? Can you quote me on it please? If you can’t, I’ll assume you’re delusional. Thanks.

I really don’t understand threads like this. Should be closed. It’s a post that should be a reply on a thread, not a thread itself. It offers no room for constructive criticism, absolutely pointless post, and all it does is try and make other peoples excitement fade. If you think that there is nothing coming and it’s all a load of bullkitten then just leave. Seriously. Obviously you want it to be good or else you wouldn’t post a pointless thread like this. Try and look at the glass half full, not half empty. And please don’t reply to this post with the “I’ve been playing this game this long, and Anet did this and that and this and that, and this is just going to be another one of those and so I have a right to post this” kinda reply because that’s all anyone ever says when someone makes a reply like mine. Try to have some optimism. Thanks.

Cush

Well the obvious solution to that would be for you to not make yet another post like this then, wouldn’t (silly word censor here) it. If you think this thread is all a load of ____ then just leave. Seriously. (saying seriously makes it more serious).

Could you imagine a world where no one ever complained about anything? Really think about that for a while. Seriously. Think how much more large corporations would extort us and how many less rights we would have today if no one ever complained or let the higher-ups know how we felt.

Not everyone has to live their lives with the same philosophical values as you do.

You are unfamiliar with champion trains? If you are, well, they are groups of people (otherwise known as a ‘zerg’!) that swarm around one map like a bunch of noobs and mow down the same mobs over and over again. If you’re not unfamiliar with this term, then sorry for being condescending*

I suppose this falls into your category of “for fun” too. Some may find it fun, I can dig that, I’ve done my share of it and had some fun doing it. My own opinion though is that a more organised dungeon run with known, limited numbers is more fun than this idiotic passtime, which is what a big part of the game seems to have unfortunately fallen into.

And what’s, exactly, the purpose for you to run dungeons in other games? Or farm gold? A few points in your ever increasing stats, leading to a new boss that has ever increasing stats.

Sounds to me like someone has bought into the fiction of vertical progression.

My sig will tell you I don’t care for forum buzzwords

At least the game in your description has a purpose. The purpose of having gold in other games similar to this is, well, you know, it’s a currency. It’s worth something. Running a specific dungeon with specific drops repeatedly will give you a goal, something to work or hope for. These thousands of tokens for ugly armour sets that I have are completely pointless, so there’s the reward out of the window, it seems you’ll agree that consatntly running the same dungeon over and over can get boring; why would I do them again?

For more garbage items to sell to an npc or a rare rune that’s soulbound that I don’t even want to use or a hilarious tonic that I can’t fight in or a Precursor…

…yeah right. I haven’t played every mmo out there but are there any others that can give you the best reward possible from any low-level mob, with just as much luck at forging one as say the best imbue/enchant/whatever it’s called in said game? ie next to none.

ftr I thought some updates were fantastic, I really enjoyed the first Halloween, Wintersday, Winds of the what-you-ma-call-it. These were very interesting and fun events and the invasion of Southsun/LA was a good idea but they really bit off more than they could chew with that one – servers just couldn’t handle it.

I forget what/where it was said but that statement about “We did some research about who logs in when and why we have many players, and we discovered it was when we had updates, so we thought lolomg what if we could have updates every 2 weekz!!!” really reminded me of that “yo dawg I heard you like ____ so we _” meme, and I really didn’t want to believe that was a sound logic. As such the updates we do get seem pretty lackluster.

The purpose of ANY game is to entertain, perhaps educate and most importantly, have fun playing. If GW2 doesn’t do that for you, which it surely sounds like it doesn’t, then maybe it’s time for a break.

I agree. But breaks in games like these are bad for games like these. I need something else to do with my free (gaming) time now – wonder what alternatives there are? I love my profession, I love my character and I love the atmosphere, but there’s absolutely nothing I want to do, especially not the increasingly dull world bosses that I’ve been doing for the past year, with absolutely no reward of value.

It is odd when I think of games that don’t even have rewards. FPS’s, old platform games. In some games all you got for doing everything was a game over screen. Why do I feel so disappointed when I don’t get good rewards for doing these tedious tasks? Spoiled? I don’t know. This is not a platform game. It’s a game largely based on rewards, and the rewards are borked.

On the whole I find it quite irritating. This game has always felt extremely sluggish to me, with long cast times on skills, delays between the skill casting and it actually doing damage to the opponent, skills going on cooldown even though they didn’t trigger properly, things like that. Put these together with the annoying downed state, stealth, clones, and the lackluster rewards, and there’s my answer.

Being rewarded for being evil

Personally, I think the kick system is flawed in its inception.

Once inside an instance of any kind, kicking should not be allowed.

This. Exactly this.

Really, how many people are going to join a group and sabotage it from start to finish? Maybe one or two people but I bet not even half as many as these kick-vote abusers. Even the majority of extremely anti-social people just want to finish it as quickly as possible and get their rewards.

There should be no kick option, but an auto-kick timeout would be good, which triggers at say 2-5 minutes inactive.

Griefers gonna grief I guess, but less so without a kick option. You could always report, just like you have to in open world. People are horrid there too but there’s no option to kick from Queensdale or wherever. You deal with it and/or report. Why shouldn’t it be the same in dungeons.

I’ve switched back to staff for PvP. I know s/d or d/d are “better” but my ping’s probably quite bad due to me being a Brit playing on NA servers. Ping seems to have a big effect on dagger skills, or rather the quick burst skills. I never come last in these hotjoins, usually in top 3.

Well, it is Christmas Eve.

LA was packed on Tarnished Coast about an hour ago, though. Could be you’re on a low pop server.

make players and events visible on the map from farther away, currently only dead players show up on the map, thats useless i wana see live players

I’d like to at least see friends and guildies. But I think the minimap/normal map is too important, with regards to clicking waypoints. So, if all players were going to be displayed on our maps, I’d like it so WP’s took priority and overlapped them.

“Nice” community. Gross, especially the self-proclaimed ones. A lot of it is very fake and transparent. The ego just oozes out of some people, and I find these kinds of people far more repulsive than the guy raging and cursing because he died. At least he is honest.

I will admit that on the whole, this game’s community is a lot nicer than others I have seen. But from day one I’ve also seen toxic and spiteful insults and attitudes, on many different servers (the EU ones have been far, far worse than the NA ones I’ve been on – one of the reasons I’m a Brit playing on NA), but again, bad people come in different forms, and some of the worst offenders are the most well-spoken. But then again I don’t think most people are self-aware enough to see these things… that or they’re just one of them.

Tequatl. I do appreciate the changes made to him, but I think they went a bit overboard, and the reliance on the turrets ruins it a bit.

I also miss Orr being the place to be. They really need to do something related to the Living Story in there, incorporate dailies into it, put stuff there, do anything at all with it…

Besides that, though, not a lot has gone, only been added.

Is gold to gems rate fair in gw2?

I think it’s good if you’re buying gems with gold, but it’s awful if you’re selling gems for gold. I expect a lot more gold for a £30 charge than what is currently on offer.

Unfortunately for you, your expectations need to overcome the expectations of people that wanted more gems for their gold.

It’s OK, if it’s easier to buy gem store items with in-game gold instead of real money, then who am I to complain?
