OK so in order to see anything new in the game I have to spend another £35.

The way I’m looking at it is: do I think GW2 is a good enough game to pay this amount to continue playing it? The answer is no. There are plenty of other top titles I could buy for this price, a whole new experience.

Thanks for the replies, hf.

lol.

My point about buying gems is a counter to the “Anet needs to make money on their game to keep it going” argument. It makes sense to me. I hate to talk about money and how much I’ve spent, but I’ve spent quite a lot here, more than enough to cover a lifetime of expansions. I know, it doesn’t work like that. Buying gems was optional, my own doing. Do I sound self-entitled? Probably. I don’t care, like I said I have no problem paying for my entertainment if I choose to do so and yes “no one is forcing me” blah blah but it’s forced in the fact that if I want to continue playing this game I do “have” to pay the full price again. Or I can not pay and be locked out of new content.

Yes, I kind of do think I deserve HoT for “free”
I mean not really, no one deserves anything for free. But it does seem a little backward that people who financially support the game a lot less than I do (did), get more content than I do.

“I really do take issue with this idea that you think you’re having to pay for the game twice. "

I am having to pay for it twice. It’s the full price of a game, an unexpected full-whack fee. It’s nothing at all to do with the fact that the core game is included in the package, I have no issue with that whatsoever. The point is that I have to pay full price for an update after paying so much already, after buying into the “buy once” advertising at release.

But anyway your typical wishy-washy RP defense and bizarre, nonsensical arguments about waiting 3 years for a free game is a bit off-topic, as I asked what content is available to such a whining, self entitled cheapskate such as myself.

No, it isn’t worth it for you.

Yeah, seems that way. Shame.

I’m kinda salty that I put so much money into this game when I had a lot more disposable income/less responsibilities, only to be forced to pay for it again at a later date. Hate to sound self-entitled about it – I definitely believe in paying for entertainment but I was under the impression this game was buy to play, which I already did. And tbh I’m just looking for something to do when I’m bored, not an actual gaming investment. The game lost most of its spark for me in the first year, though I did enjoy the clockwork invasion things a while back.

Hi,

I played this game since beta but got bored of it, and was rather put off (a little bit sour) by the fact I had to pay full price for the game again at the HoT update, after financially supporting the game as best I could with gem purchases over the years/months since release…

Anyway I’m wondering if there is any worthwhile content for me to return to without paying any more than I already have? I didn’t buy the HoT expansion. If I return will it be the same old grinding repetitive events in Orr and tediously dull dragons for trash items? Is running off a cliff for 10 minutes still the PvP meta game?

I tried to play a few months ago, took one look at the guild halls update and logged off after about 20 minutes. I see there is a new update approaching, are we going to have to pay full price for this one as well? Is it only for HoT players?

3 years in and there’s STILL no option to ‘sort’ items in your bag or bank. Clicking “sort” would group all similar items next to each other – weapons, armour etc. My bank especially is a horrid mess of random items and empty spaces that I shouldn’t have to tidy myself. Unnacceptable. If 10+ year old mmo’s can do it, so can GW2.

Agreed, especially that very last point you made. These things should already be available to players, yet it’s not just players that would benefit from this. People at Anet play the game, too.

There are bags that do this automatically.
Oiled packs, automatically add junks items.
Craftman’s bags automatically add crafting mats.
Equipment boxes automatically add in equipment according to tier (masterwork, rare, exotic)
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bag

That’s a really horrid, awful substitute for a basic, common feature. Not only do you have to pay gold and go to the hassle of finding/crafting/organizing these bags, but they also don’t do what I’m asking. There will still be gaps in the inventory, you will still have to scroll around and sort things manually, within each bag. There is NO excuse why we don’t have this feature. It’s just Anet being stubborn/difficult in their bizarre, hipster-esque attempt to be different from other mmo’s.

Does GW2 feel unrewarding for anyone else?

Always amazes me how many people flat-out lie in threads like this.

“I’m not a lucky person but I have thousands of gold and 10 Legendary weapons and I don’t grind or farm at all!” Yeah right. You’re either a liar or a cheater, buying gold illegally (or legally, just forgetting to mention it)

I don’t have the stamina to grind for hours anymore but I do a bit of it… or just “playing the game” as someone put it (do some world bosses, pick nodes as you go etc) and I can say for sure that selling garbage trash to NPC’s from Grenth, Gates of Arah, those tedious stationary zerg world bosses etc does NOT get you thousands of gold and Legendaries. Not even cash shop gambling gets you anything decent in this game. Black Lion chest keys, dye packs etc, they are so shady, worse than any F2P Korean grinder I’ve ever seen. Great I got a chest key let’s see what I get! Oh yay I can summon a merchant LOL. That was really worth spending real money on considering there are THOUSANDS of merchants spread out over every single map.

The thing that makes me laugh is that after a break from this game, I came back recently and see that you get “rewarded” for every single thing you do now. Log in: get garbage reward. Stand in one place for 20 seconds in a PvP game: get garbage reward. Open one garbage reward box and get another garbage reward. It’s great that this game is trying to appeal to 5 year old Xbox gamers by showering us with trash, but I wish the rewards would be of a higher quality and much less frequent. It’s actually really annoying having these useless, laggy chests pop up on my screen every time I fart or cough or some tl;dr mail awarding me 70 copper for completing a heart.

Perhaps I’m a bit of a broken record here, but I don’t post much so it’s likely no one remembers…

Ele is the only fun class for me. If it wasn’t for the Ele I would have left this game a long time ago. It tests you to play it and it’s rewarding to play it well. People always say the risk vs reward with Ele’s is awful but to me the reward comes from playing it well.
I find it difficult getting other classes to 80 because I find then so tediously dull, although I do have a Warrior which I play when I want some casual hack n slash action.

Glide gear could have different skins to work for, either through dungeon tokens or various collectables. The really rare ones could have steam trails or rainbow dust particle effects.

I’m on the fence about selling. On one hand, it’s cool that people who want the armour skins (or whatever they want from the dungeon) can get them without having to grind something they hate. But on the other hand, it makes the game look trashy and yucky. No one wants to see gold spammers selling their gold and advertising their “services” in chat, and I don’t want to see the same thing in the lfg tool. I’m fully aware of the differences – one is legal and one isn’t, but either way, it looks trashy and dirty, and I’m not at all surprised that it’s a drama magnet.

That was a great post, Nerve. Very well said.

I’ve not been very interested in gw2 these past months, it’s all a bit tedious really. I thought I’d check out the Dry Top and storyline updates though. Dry Top is an extremely dull-looking zone, the idea of sandstorms is cool but in reality it just annoys me. I can’t see where I’m going and it’s just tedious. Walking along the bottom of a cliff looking for a way up or around, in bland colours, back and forth, tedious.

And I thought I had purchased an mmo, you know, where people get together and do stuff. All this stuff seems single player – I tried to help a friend with her story and it was so confusing and… tedious.

“Do you have this quest?”
“I don’t think so”
“OK look in this tab, do this, do that”
“It says I have to pay for it. I’m not paying for it”
“Yeah don’t bother. It’s really boring and the rewards are awful, as usual with this game, lol”
“lol”

There is definitely not enough action. I paid attention to the initial personal storylines, but these new ones I really don’t care about. Are you STILL writing stuff about Scarlet? Jeeze. Talk about beating a dead horse. If I want to READ I’ll read a book, not a computer game. In a computer game I want to enjoy the physics and the gameplay, not sit there skipping through masses of painfully uninteresting text, or, even worse, minimising the window and checking my facebook while the characters TALK TO EACH OTHER about more uninteresting stuff. You expect people who missed it to PAY to watch characters talk to each other? Madness.

Cut the story in half and just give us the new dragon already. Give us some action. Give us awesome group events like in the earlier parts of the game.

There use to be a different event that happened in Nageling besides the Giant. Group of human Vet separatists I think. Much easier than the Giant but I haven’t seen that recently. I think that’s because the Giant stays up for days.

Still happens, though I’m not sure how frequently.

Why Do We Hate Rangers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tomlin.8204

tomlin.8204

Hating on rangers is just the cool thing to do right now. Most people just say they hate rangers, even though many know nothing about the class :P

For me, I hated Rangers before GW2 was even released. In every game I’ve played, Ranger has been the stupid annoying profession that has a much easier time in both PvE and PvP than the other classes. Presumptuous of me? Yeah. But hey I didn’t claim to be the poster-child for logic or reason. That is where a part of my hatred for Rangers comes from. After seeing how they perform in GW2 though, and how it’s not really the case here, I have cut them a little slack. I don’t care what classes join my dungeons or PvP teams tbh… I only play both at a casual level and they are both completely and utterly irrelevant/inconsequential to progressing in the game so it doesn’t matter if we shave 2 minutes off the 15 it takes to do the dungeon, or lose in PvP.

It does still greatly irritate me when I’m being shot at by a Ranger, though. The stupid noise of their arrows, the stupid pet biting at me while the Ranger +back’s away from me like a wimp. It’s cowardly play, the same as Mesmers with their infinite clones, and Thieves with their stealth. It’s OK if some slimeball wants to pop in here and tell me to learn to play btw, I don’t mind this, just saying that I find these skills annoying.

So I find the Ranger profession annoying to fight against, and I found it very boring to play too, but I don’t hold a grudge so much that I scrutinize, or ostracise them from my groups. Everyone is welcome.

Dueling in gw2! Remember?

My issue is that people treat it like it’s an absolute requirement, solely because they can’t just ignore it because of their own reasons. It’s not something that needs to be part of the system. If it happens? GOOD FOR YOU. Great. Go pop a bottle of champagne over it, clearly you deserve to celebrate your getting whatever you want. But don’t expect it to happen, and don’t use the reason, “Oh, because I can’t bothered adjusting”. You have so many things in the game you’ve had to adjust to, which you may not like. Why is this such a special situation?

It’s not getting what I want, it’s trying to find a middleground so everyone can be happy. I wouldn’t even check the auto-decline box because I would enjoy duelling, but some people don’t, for whatever reasons, whether they are because they simply don’t want to or because it stresses them out it (go ahead and give life advice and condescendingly suggest they seek therapy or change who they are to “improve” their inferior selves to correspond with how you view the world) really doesn’t matter. You’ve yet to give a valid reason why it wouldn’t make sense to include the auto-decline, besides your own intolerance for people with different skills to your own and some bizarre bitterness about others being happy in an online game.

Honestly your sarcasm is tedious at best and if you really, really must argue about such a daft thing then you can do it with someone else, lol.

Does it make someone else happy?

Yes.

Does it affect me in any way?

No.

I know, “it only takes 8 minutes to level from 0-80, noob!” whatever. It takes me weeks :p and the professions just aren’t fun enough to get to 80, after maining as an Ele.

Tommorow, ANet announces on the March 18th patch, DUELING HAS ARRIVED TO TYRIA. One of,the main features. There is no auto decline button. There are no meta Achivements or the like associated either, so no one has to duel anyone for any reason other than their own leisure, but as I mentioned, NO AUTO DECLINE.

What are you going to do then?

Play the game as I normally do, and enjoy the duelling, but maybe enquire about it on the forum why they didn’t implement an auto-decline feature, then wonder why people like you are so against it, when it seemingly doesn’t affect you in any way whatsoever! Feel free to tell us why it does matter to you that one wouldn’t be implemented, though, as it clearly matters a lot.

If you legitimately have a problem with flashy spell effects being shown on your screen, you are playing the wrong game. It sounds like you selectively hate flashy spell effects based on the context, with duels being that context.

No, that’s not true. I find all manners of pop-ups irritating from messenger programs dinging and flashing at me to adverts on web pages. There are ways around these, however, such as ad-blockers, which means I can continue to view the page I am already on with no hassle, rather than force a magical overflow (lol) on the site I am browsing, or going to a different site because of it.

You know, in game right now, two people may have costume brawled near you and their horrible spell effects would’ve totally show up on your screen. I take it that hasn’t stopped you from playing the game. If it was a big deal, i’m sure you would have mentioned it since it is so closely related to this argument. But i don’t think it’s an issue, outside of your ridiculous hypothetical.

Just because something irritates me, doesn’t always mean I don’t want it in the game. The only one being ridiculous here is you and the friend you are white-knighting; implying I don’t like costume brawl because I think it would keep lots of people happy if there was an auto-decline option if duelling was ever introduced. Did I say anywhere that if no auto-decline was introduced I would leave the game? I don’t think I did! So why bring it up? Really your logic is baffling and precarious.

And if they made an auto-decline duel feature you would never have to see duel request pop-ups, like so many other MMOs have managed to do.

Yes, that is exactly the point. Well done!

OK so let me ask this:

What would be the reason for not having an auto-decline feature if duelling was introduced?

In this game you can guest, you have overflows and countless things to do. If someone is really annoying you there are so many ways to get around it, it’s truly ridiculous.

If he can’t be bothered getting around it on his end than it’s really noone’s fault but his in the way he deals with it. And if it’s his issue, he needs to change the way he reacts to it. Not the game needs to change it.

I mean what’s the likelihood of this even happening? I imagine a month after dueling is introduced, only a handful of people would still do it for RP purposes or for fun. And if there’s no Achievements attached to it then I bet only a handful will do it regardless.

So many holes in this post you may as well be a hippy’s jumper.

You are suggesting that, during say a meeting of a guild at one particular place to start guild missions, if people don’t want to take part in duels while they wait, they should split the crowd up and somehow force an overflow (lol?) to stop it? Or maybe he should use up one of his 2 guest slots to go to another server (while the rest of his guild does the mission on their home server? lol?) what if he’s out of guest slots? And more to the point, why should anyone have to guest or change server or magically force an overflow from nowhere (lol?) just because they don’t want to duel? Would it not make sense (it does, complete sense) to just add the option of checking an auto-decline box when implementing the whole duel feature in the first place?

Am I being trolled? lol.

Or you could ignore them? The invites that is?

I mean it’s not hard. Personally I don’t go around hunting for duels. And I don’t see how you can troll someone by just inviting them for a duel when they can pay no attention to it and focus on whatever they’re doing.

This is really an issue of you not being able to deal with it, not the design being bad. That’s it. Fix yourself, don’t complain about a mechanic when you don’t have the patience to deal with it. x:

I don’t know why you would even bother posting such things. Some people find it annoying to have flashy things pop up on the screen that don’t interest them, especially if it’s “player xxx wants a fight with you”, something which they were against being included in the game in the first place. It’s not your place to tell people to work on themselves or their personalities, especially when the obvious answer would be to have the option to switch it off completely.

If anyone here needs fixing, it’s you, and the way you think. Really bizarre.

I transfered to TC a while back, about a year ago actually, and it’s my favourite that I’ve tried. On the whole it’s a good experience, but we have our trolls, farmers etc too. I’m sure every server does. But yeah, I’d recommend it.

Dueling in gw2! Remember?

The only negative I can think about it being added is that there’ll be more lag and irritating skills going off left right and centre when I’m trying to do something like craft or forge. This is just my own personal irritability though, and I’d love to see duelling in the game. I’d love to be able to duel my guild members while we’re waiting for everyone to show up for the bounty, for example, without going off to another zone in some silly “arena”.
I’d like to see what my fellow Elementalist’s new build is like and what it’s capable of, how it compares to mine.
I’d like to show my friend what the Ele can do, first-hand, instead of just targeting a mob and stomping all over it I want to show her “this is what I’m doing and why” so they understand the class better, and know when to use their reflects and heals etc.
I want to do this where I decide to do it, not in an arena.

I don’t get why people are so against some of us having fun with our friends. Another positive thing that could come from duelling is the user-created events. Win prizes for beating our best dueller, etc.

and many of the others, is the sound effects. Just wanted to say good job to whoever makes them, and if you’d care to share what programs they are made in, or anything about them? I particularly like the sounds when you step into the coloured fields to get the buffs, and also the low rumbley noise when Tequatl appears.

Good job sound effect peoples!

In order for this to work it would need a concrete solution. What do you suppose that is?

How long do you have to be logged out for until the name becomes available again, and what happens to original character?

GW2 needs FFA PvP servers!

I think it was during a stress test, and it wasn’t the typical kind of pvp that we’re (I’m!) talking about here. They basically made it so if you get killed by a player you become one of the Branded, then have to convert other players into Branded by killing them. Things like this are not real pvp, despite the definition of “player versus player” and indeed “free for all” being accurate. I have the same opinion of things like wvw and Southsun Survival – although fun, not real pvp. Not even spvp is real pvp imo :p

Real pvp to me is:

>everyone is standing waiting for maw to spawn
>people are nervous that someone is going to start pking
>seconds before it spawns, a guild rushes in and wipes everyone
>the whole place becomes a bloodbath and no one kills the boss
>people rage and cry about all the items they dropped from their bags
>all the killers now have red names and can be killed/hunted by others
>having a red name gives harsher penalties for dying
>i don’t even want this why am i typing
>think i’ll go to bed, lol

And your point? It’s a bad idea, most people responding do not like it, and it has no place in GW, period. If you want open world PvP, there are more then enough other games out there, help yourself. This subject is the same as mounts and duels, it’s been suggested before, discussed to death, and there is no reason to keep creating duplicate threads except the laziness of posters who will not take the time to search first or vain enough to think they are the first to have this idea..

The search on this forum doesn’t work.

Why are people so defensive about this? It wouldn’t even affect you… if you don’t want to play on the -theoretical- pvp server then don’t

What would be the point? The only reason to enter the PvE world is the events.

Yeah great fun with FFA PvP while people are trying to farm mats.

It’s a rather tired discussion that’s also a double-edged sword. On the one hand, this type of game already exists, there are many games with open world pvp and in my opinion there is a lot more “point” to games like that than to games like this where we “farm mats” in pve so we can farm even more mats in pve so we can farm even more mats in pve etc. It’s a lot harder to farm mats if real people are trying to stop you, as opposed to risen or krait or whatever else. It’s sort of the same thing, only much more of a challenge, therefor it’s more rewarding when you succeed, more annoying when you fail, but that can be a good thing too – the more extreme things are, the higher some people’s desire to win is – so much so that they’ll spend thousands of real money to do so.

It creates drama, passion, pushes your skills to the limits, and sometimes makes guilds a lot tighter and less casual, gives you a purpose for being in the guild, where every member counts and isn’t just someone to talk to.

But on the other hand, it brings out the worst in some people, creating a more toxic environment, some will leave the game, guilds start to monopolise content.

Well, that’s a post for “every” server being pvp. But this thread didn’t say every server, just “some”. Personally I’d check it out if there was a proper pvp server, but yeah in this game I don’t know how well it would do. I’d like to see it though, and if you don’t, then don’t go there.

What do you use your alts for?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tomlin.8204

tomlin.8204

I only have 2 chars at 80 – the Ele I play the most but very rarely the Warrior if I get bored. I either go back to the Ele after about 30 minutes or log out.

The other alts sit there on death row, unloved and unfed (hey there’s something anet could implement – food and loves and cuddlez for your alts, like those idiot Tamagotchi things in the 90’s) where they continue to gather dust until I either decide to craft another Ascended weap (not going to happen) or nuke one of them to make a profession I haven’t properly tried yet.

All classes seem luckluster after Ele… I’ve been spiled with their aoe and fun level. Other classes almost seem fun but it feels like mostly single target damage and I find this tedious.

25% speed increase for every class

Run speed in all mmo’s seem to be absolutely sluggish and horrible. It’s quite sad that each time I create a new profession, it doesn’t matter what the other utility skills are, even if it would destroy any creature with one hit with a 1 second cooldown, if it doesn’t make me run faster then I’m not equipping it.

>"golem is up"
>port there
>switch to my speed signet
>hope i don’t get hit by anything on my way there
>switch to frost bow
>repeat the switching 30 times over the next hour

Server-wide world chat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

tomlin.8204

I wouldn’t like it, especially as on my server, there is a guild with over 1500 members, who spam their advertisment at every boss event or gathering on a daily basis. Currently, I only see it at these events, with a few on random quieter maps, but with a world channel I’m sure I’d be seeing it 24/7.

In my last game though, it was a great source of entertainment and drama. But there’s not much to fight over in GW2 because it’s not open world PvP.

I'm getting tired of dumb party problems

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

tomlin.8204

I don’t think the OP is being unreasonable at all. It is extremely poor design to boot the entire party just because the person who started the instance cannot continue for whatever reason.

He is being unreasonable because his progress is not blocked due to party leaders leaving, considering he could be a party leader himself.
Easy fix.

He is not at all being unreasonable, it’s a ridiculously idiotic design flaw that has been making people unhappy since the game’s release. It’s not just for his own benefit, it’s for other people’s too, as there is no guarantee that the OP wont DC or have to leave, either, causing everyone else in his party to get kicked.

And surely you realise that if everyone insisted on being the party leader, there wouldn’t be any parties, ever.

Ahhh the second person to ignore the OP’s content.
His fractal level has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PARTY LEADER LEAVING.

The subject of the party problem has been debated time and time again.
I provided a way out of it.
His post about being a level 4 fractal is unreasonable because it is not due to the party flaw.

Now you’ve completely ignored my “content”

I think we actually agree in a small part of the argument. I agree that if he wanted to, he could get to a higher level. But to say it’s not because of being kicked, is quite untrue. He said it himself: “it’s not really motivating to give it another try from square one.” I can understand that, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be put off by bad experiences.

My fractal lavel is higher than 4, and so are many other people’s, because we persevere through this avoidable mess of a party system; avoidable by them coding it differently. Have you not seen the countless threads about this over the past year? So many people are unhappy with the party system – instead of having people getting frustrated and annoyed with it, why not do something about it?

And again, you didn’t provide a way out of it. You are suggesting that anyone who doesn’t want to risk wasting their time with this, to make their own party. I explained to you already that if everyone does that, there will be no parties, as only one person can be the party leader. And again, it’s not fair for the people in the OP’s party if HE dc’s or has to leave, and they are all kicked. Oh, maye they should all make their own parties too, but what if they dc? Then all the people who joined will get kicked. Maybe they should make their own parties too? Do you see where I am going with this, and why your “way out of it” doesn’t work?

I hope I explained it clearly enough this time.

Mystic Forge Recipe: Immobulus

Yeah, that’s crazy. I really like the Immobolus skin but when you’re looking at at least 3 times the price of a Precursor, it’s quite hard to justify it.

I think having Giants drop them is a good idea, maybe 60-100% chance, and reducing the recipe cost to 100.

I wonder what the person who designed it thinks. “Yay, my scepter design is rare and people think it’s worth the work to obtain it!” or “Aww, my design is somewhat lost because you can get more powerful weapons for a fraction of the price”
