What is the build you used in the video?
Tried the build MailMail posted and it was fun with certain professions, but mesmers.
Power-interrupt mesmers can have the opening on you thanks to the 1200 range MoD, followed by mirror blade blink shatter which puts a lot of pressures from start. So I found myself often on the defensive side, running away, trying to let pistol doing his bleeds and conditions ticking.
I tried a variation with glamour traited and I really like the effect you get: superspeed + staff + blink I was able to survive to 2 mes (1 lockdown 1 shatter PU) the entire match. They litterally chased me. I was going form one point to another decapping and running. At one point I think it became a matter of pride for them and they just kept running after myself, so we won. But I cannot say I killed many
This is my feeling now: power is the meta for mesmer and conditions not so much, thanks to the MtD nerf. I also tried condi with no MtD and didn’t really notice much difference tbh. Unfortunately, MtD is now what it used to be before the buff… useless. Or just one condition more to add to the lot
That being said, have you checked out the new guild halls? There will definitely be a wide amount of variability to how unconventional pvp is played. Very open ended it seems. Gotta buy HoT though!
Care to explain? Apparently I have missed that one. I have not been in the guild halls yet :|
Reading it back, I understand I wasn’t too clear.
I tried the sigil in conjunction with Mantra of Distraction and Confounding Suggestions, which grants a 1 sec stun. I wanted to make the most out of it and tried to prolong the stun as much as possible, hence the sigil.
But the trait with the sigil doesn’t work. All you get is the Mantra effect, which is a 1 sec (in reality something less) daze.
At the moment do not try running them togehter. Just for your info.
BR
I was trying the paralyzation sigil with confounding suggestions, on a golem.
Without the sigil, you get a 1 second purple icon that looks like a star. Working as intended.
When slotting the sigil in, all you get is the daze icon which lasts not even for a second.
I tried it on a moving enemy and in fact it does not stun at all
Can anyone confirm it?
\o/
told ya it was funmy build is with sinister jewels and phantasm dmg/fury (dropping halting strike and imp. blink), it’s really fun to play and effective
sinister jewels and rabid armor? what about weapons?
I mean, the build works, no doubt about that. But I think the gear is what makes it okish, good or great (that’s the main reason why it doesn’t work that well in pvp, because lack of gear choice)
Have you though going full sinister? (or with the majority of pieces, anyway. If you wanna slot in some knight that’s fine).
Is sinister purchasable from TP?
edit. one more question: would it work without travelers? I am not keen in investing on a second travelers set of runes. I already have them on my zerk set and I would be considering something different, like air or pack (I run with focus and those sets gel extremely well with my wepaon choice)
(edited by trooper.2650)
Personally I use sw+focus. Since it got fixed I find it my preferred off hand weapon.
Aside from the speed buff, I find it great for controlling the game and as a defensive option I think it’s way better than the torch, at least for my play style.
Also, since I run with both phant fury and empowered illusions, iWarden is such a good phantasm both in terms of damage and area denial/shelter.
Hi there,
I dunno what’s going on but the client keeps crashing. I thought it was Yolo Mouse so I stopped using it but it still crashes.
I enclosed the log when it crashes since it couldn’t automatically send it through the client itself (I have no mail software on my pc)
it usually happens when on loading screens between the mist and battle grounds for example, but also during games. I did not notice anything in particular… Can someone have a look at the file and give some feedback, please?
Much appreciated it!

Ever wondered how it feels like reflecting rangers rapid fire? Try this
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAR8dlknpGtlpxRNcrNipxcyqWi0BkQDlskxB-TZBEABGcBAwuMAAHBACeIA3t/AA
It’s my main build and does wonders. Actually, I wanted to write a guide about it. Maybe one day.. who knows. For now I am just collecting vids
Hey Flufferz, you are right, it’s a mix. The asskicker was the blueprint. What I wanted to retain from that build was short weapons cd, MoD, hard hitting phantasms and the amulet/sigils.
I changed weapons for my comfort and picking focus leaded me to 4 in Inspiration.
I could run the build without DE, no problem, but chosing either longer blink (which I absolutely love in wvw) or blade training with only one sword seemed sub-par vs DE or even phant fury, very important for this build.
I very seldom manage to get three phants out anyway, so clones never overwrite them.
Shattered concentration is something I would pick if I wasn’t pumping phantasms damage. Having strong iBerserker and iWarden out, you do not want to shatter too often. In fact I shatter only when opening with mirror blade+mind spike combo, or for extra interrupt by F3 or for safe stomping by F4 (or when doing curtain pull into warden spin+blurred frenzy+mind wrack).
In the end the build from Ross worked well even without Shattered concentration. If I see stab I try to remove it with mind spike else I just wait for it to fade. Not a big deal so far.
I agree it would be nice to remove regen, protection and big stacks of might at will, but with this build I favour Halting strike for the many interrupts I have, Empowered illusions for phants are a good chunck of my damage and GS training for a smooth flow when switching weapon-sets.
Do you have any videos showcasing your build?
I will try to upload what I got so far, when I have a chance.
I apologize for highjacking the 3D. Although a little different, I would like to use your post and share my take at “focus traited” build. Here it is:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAR8dlknpGtlpxRNcrNipxcyqWi0BkwBlskxB-TZBEABGcBAyZ/BsLDAwRAggHCAA
I think in terms of damage, this build is second only to pure shatter and similar to asskicker build from Ross.
The focus and GS are both traited, which for my playstyle is vital. The benefit of having fast recharge on iWave and curtain is essential, especially becuase of MoD and halting strike make this build similar to a lockdown build. The reflect is just the icing on the cake, for more denial.
You’ll notice no GM trait. However, it is quite peculiar how this build is the one I have been playing the most. I usually change build every 2 weeks (lol). But I think I found my sweet spot for it gives me what I need.
Survival is above average. The traited curtain helped me so much so many times. It is a great tool and along side blink and decoy it helps you to survive longer (or to kill quicker)
Only downside I found is the curtain itself which isn’t always reliable, even on flat terrain: depending on angles, projectiles may pass through. Luckly it works most of the times.
Though as mesmer u can prefer “biggest” races to obstacle enemy vision
This is actually something I experienced myself.
After 2 years with an Asura I decided to roll a new mesmer and I picked a Charr. It is probably just me, but it seems that bigger races (I also got the new wings skin which makes me even larger) can create even more confusion by occuping most of the screen, especially when having many clones out. I had the feeling I was able to survive more easily than when I am on my Asura, especially on those “hairy moments”.
Loved that you showed a lot of weapon combinations, but you really need to work on the stomping :P
Ahaha, if I were to draw some conclusions from this short montage I would defenitely say the same, no doubt. It’s actually rather peculiar that there is no a single safe stomp in those clips. But I can guarantee it’s a coincidence, I ususally know how to stomp properly.
The thing is that I always hope there is no need for F4 in a 1v1, when they clearly have no chance to recover from the defeat. Surely, the fight at the camp with ranger and guardian was a little too messy, but in the end I made it ^^
I decided to post this short wvw run I had time ago. A bit sloppy, don’t be too harsh on me pls
It was meant to be a lockdown montage only, but I realized the first two clips were recorded while on double shatter build (I did play it thinking I was on my CI build -.- ).
Nvm, I hope you like it
I do not agree.
Focus may be the most situational weapon we have (if we have any situational weapons at all), but is far from weak. The fact that iwarden does not move when he performs his attack isn’t necessarily bad. On the contrary, it provides some sort of shelter which it would not be possible (or difficult to achieve) if he was moving while attacking.
I personally prefer the warden as it is now rather than the original one when it was rooted and never moved. Since when they managed to fix it, I find it more reliable in the actual hitting the enemy. Also, all phantasms can miss their target and so does iwarden.
Of course, smart and dumb ppl alike will move away from it but it’s your duty to make sure it hits (through CI or by curtain pull and sword immob, one of the best and funniest combo we have). When performed succesfully, the combo deals great amount of damage, second only to a full shatter.
I think it’s down to personal taste. I wouldn’t change it because I like the way it is. I also run traited focus, which it makes it even better.
Edit. As far as the 1 sec nerf to the pull, I don’t think it’s much of a big deal. Tbh it was needed: too many ppl raging for being pulled off of the cliffs or in skyhammer. Actually, it synergize better with the combo into the iwarden: activating the curtain straight away after the cast didn’t give the warden enough time to spawn and perform the attack and thus fail most of its spins
(edited by trooper.2650)
Nice read, as usual. Always impressed how much work you put into your threads.
This. I always follow Chaos 3d because they are so well written and sooo informative it’s a pleasure reading them
Can someone explain how it works? Have you noticed anything different from
the previous “version”?
99% of my games are in solo queu either ranked or unranked.
I don’t know you guys… but since the new system was implemented I either faceroll the other team or get facerolled. Why is that so? Is there a reason to do with my rank perhaps?
Maybe it is just me and how I perceive the game, but the fact is that it isn’t as fun as it used to be.
Thoughts?
When you say ‘sniping down’ do you actually mean sniping, or do you mean ‘someone approached him and then got deleted at close range’?
Actual sniping points me towards 6/6/w.e mantra nuker. Close range deletion is a shatter (or phantasm I guess) build.
This was my first thought too.
Without necessarily using empowering mantras, since it’s not pve and more useful/user friendly utilities can be chosen for a pvp environment.
LOL
Ofc, it is for the bonus, not for the stats! It’s not me who’s burning cd too fast…it’s the phantasms that die too quickly
I did try traited focus too. In wvw, in a 1v1, 1v2 or vs a camp is just a killer. Being able to hide behind curtain/iwarden and keep shooting with the duelist is nice. But for some reasons it failed in pvp (at least for me).
As I wrote, tonight I will try traited torch. I want to see if the extra stealth can make up for the loss of an offensive phantasm (I do not consider the image as one). I dunno, it may be just an awfull choice… what you say?
There’s nothing inherently wrong with using torch. There’s plenty of builds that do. So my advice if you’re going to is to work on a redesign. Build from the ground up. Dropping OH sword? Drop CI too. Work with standard dazes and pistol stuns. Summon iMage and spawn clones for shattering before engaging with iDuelist. Drop sword trait for DE. These are all possibilities.
Tried it and discarded the idea immediately.
But I want to keep you updated on my recent changes, if you allow me. I think that traits spread and amulet/runes/sigils keep some sort of flow from your build. That is why I am not opening a new thread. But let me know if you do not want me to pollute your asskicker 3D with my tests.
As I see it, your aim is to have h a r d kicking phantasms with some sort of control (CS+bullet) and burst ppl down as fast as possible.
As I suggested in a previous post, I tried GS+sw/pt (dropped CS for GS trait). The damage and pressure you can put is just unbelievable. I strongly advise you to try it.
Eventually I dropped pistol and picked up focus. This set up is the one I feel more confortable with (coming from a long CI experience 4/4/6 GS/sw+f). A tiny less pressure but more control by curtain, iwave and iwarden. It still put tremendous pressure, especially with compounding power.
The other two changes are veil instead of MoD and runes of rage instead of air (that lightining proc!). Rage gives even more damage thanks to more fury and you won’t get revealed by that proc. which, using veil and decoy, can sometimes ruin your plans.
The build looks like this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAR8dlknpRtlpxYNcrNipxgqyIdAJcQpLplxB-TZBFABC8AAsZ/BHOCAUXGAgLCAA
A variation with traited focus:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAR8dlknpRtlpxYNcrNiphcyqLJdgEHKZpWA-TZBFABC8AAsZ/BHOCAUXGAgLCAA
PS: having dropped pistol you can either go for DE or traited blink.
PPS: I dropped CS and picked GS trait but it’s not mandatory, however, since your build has all wepaons traited, it maintains the same feel of having fast access to phantasms when swapping sets.
Thoughts?
These signet builds screem for blurred inscription to me. I know distortion isn’t good for contest modes, but you are not using or abusing stealth anyway so, a little 1 sec of distortion is not going to alter the outcome of the match, is it?
It seems a pity not to pick such good talent when having three signets in your utility bar.
All Phantasms need the same time to die in an AoE-rich environment, which converges to 0s.
Do you agree that iduelist has better chance to survive when casted from 900, let alone 1200 than, lets say, iswordman?
When shattering in a AoE-rich environmnet clones, and often phantasms, don’t even make it to the target before dying,
Ofc all phantasms need the same time to die. They all have the same health pool.(except iwarden). But we are discussing the viability of iswordman vs other phantasms. It is a good phantasm but but but… it has all been said in previous posts.
All of what you say it’s fine… in theory. In practice, iswordman dies quickly by aoe, leaving you with one, max two hits. His leap does not put him far away enough to avoid aoes since most (if not all) are larger than what he can leap. It would be nice if it could leap (or I should say teleport) back right next to you, where it spawned. That would actually make sense.
All in all it isn’t bad if you pair it with CS+blade training trait but it’s just a bit meh if used on its own
Dont all phantasms die quickly though, especially in aoes?
Some phantasms die faster than others, i.e. all ranged phantasms have better chances to stay alive (iduelist, iwarlock, image). If Anet wanted to stay true to the caster/squishy, melee/tougher type of concept they should seriously think about implementing it to phantasms too.
WoW had the same problem with hunters and walocks… pets used to immediately die to aoe feasts, halvening those professions potential dps . They easily solved it by making pets immune to aoes. I do not see why it cannot be done here. Balance? perhaps, but AIs are designed to be part of those professions. It’s fine to be able to kill them by actually targetting them, but aoe abusing over something you cannot control (I mean, you cannot ask your phantasm to move away from aoe) is not fair either.
Oh, right… we’ve got triumphant distortion. Nice fix
LOL
Ofc, it is for the bonus, not for the stats! It’s not me who’s burning cd too fast…it’s the phantasms that die too quickly

I knew your answer but I did not want to post a wall of text and prefered to wait your reply to favour a constructive discussion.
If you put longer blink in the list (which I love) you can see how it is even harder for me to make a up my mind.
Anyway, duelist’s discipline is a must. I love pistol and I love having it ready every time I swap.
At the time when I wrote the post I was using sc/pt+staff, to try more variations. In that case sword training wasn’t necessary, so it was easier to decide what to drop.
The thing is that the build is squishy no matter how you look at it, and staff helps just a little that the trade of burst/viability it’s probably not worth.
Tonight I will try using torch, for the extra stealth (also using torch trait for condi cleans), to see how it plays. If it does not work and I find myself going back to double sword I will be dropping phant. fury in favour of blade training. Lets face it, assassin amulet gives plenty of crit and you can safely afford to drop phant. fury.
3 questions. I know you being a big fan of focus (I remember your videos in wvw when you were using sc/focus). Why not implementing it?
Have you tried sword/pistol and sc/sword? I, myself, prefer them in that order rather than sc/ps+sw/sw: a nice stun + immob there, plus double block on the other side. Guess it’s down to personal taste. Just saying it.
This one is big and I know your reaction already.
Have you tried runes of the Warrior? It pairs very well when you have at least 1 CD weapon reduction in both sets. Combine that with Illusionists Celerity and you can pop phantasms faster than ever on both weapons sets (which sinergize well phant. haste for a better uptime pressure).
Also, the HP that comes with it are a nice boost to survivability. Of course it is a trade for losing all those goodies runes of the air brings. But the build is very bursty even without runes of the air. Again, just saying it
yep, I couldn’t agree more
1. Tuesday evening mainly. Weekends from time to time, but cannot guarantee whether it’ll be saturday or sunday so I wouldn’t build anything on those days.
2. pvp/wvw (small roaming, not zerks)
3. Aurora
4. I am, but I see only NA ppl online and cannot make party so I always on my own
5. No, ty
Somebody would argue iswordman hits like a truck.
It actually does hit very kitten squishy targets, however I agree I do not like the fact that it spawns next to you. Also, being a melee combatant will often die by aoe. iBerserker will die too, but at least it can deal massive damage (if not dodged) before dying whereas iswordman (although it has the higest dps among all phantasms) will hit once and than die, making him even less useful than iwarden.
It depends though… in some situation (see asskicker build by Ross) it really contributes in killing ppl fast.
Saying that, I must agree I do not like it very much and having it spawned next to the target seems the most logical change
Hi Ross,
Mushin here again to bug you a little more :P
I tried small variations. One of which was already suggested in previous posts: going 4 points in Illusions.
I know you think it would undermine the “concept” behind the original build. However, I did some tests. Basically, the overall damage output between you and your iduelist in a 6/6/x/x/x with Assasin amulet is very, very close to the damage you would deal with a 6/4/0/0/4. Difference is that in your build, yourself would end up doing +/-41% damage more than your phantasm, while with Phant Haste, phant would do more and yourself less. Nothing new here, but the total is very similar. It looks like this:
- Asskicker build:
- Mesmer 1425
- iduelist 1012
- Tot: 2437
- Variation with p. Haste:
- Mesmer 1272
- iduelist 1133
- Tot: 2405
But I am thinking… how much time do you spend actively fighting and/or hiding, running away while the heal comes up, etc.? So, it’s not like you are always putting pressure, because it’s your phant. that in turn put pressure for you. Or I should say.. it’s a mix of the two, agree?
So, why not spreading the pressure more evenly? The calculation doesn’t take in to account compounding power, which for a power base build would be the ideal choice for going in illusions. Illusions give you also a shorter decoy/phantasms summoning.
Have you tried going this route?
Added a pure vs thief montage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iz3vb8fBIoY
Somebody may think you have something against thieves Do you?
I must say the build is crazy for the damage output it can dish. However, and since you are more experienced than me with this build, I have few questions.
Which profession do you find that hard counter it?
How do you deal with a LB ranger? For example, you are approaching a guarded point by a LB ranger. He sees you and start shooting from far away. By the time I get to contest the point I alread spent at least either decoy or blink and in the worst scenario, both utilities. In this case I most likely will die. What’s your tactic?
2 points in chaos for traited manipulation are ok. But wouldn’t it be more helpful to have mender’s purity? I mean, 100 thougness is barely noticeable, let alone the minor trait that goes with it. What do you say?
wvw. I love traited blink. What do you think is more important between traited sword and phant fury if I cannot live without it?
GS. Why do you think GS isn’t viable in this build? Is it only a personal taste or there is a true reason behind? I was thinking about replacing sc/pistol.
Thanks
I see what you mean and I feel the same. However, I still prefer carrion over rabid (did try rampager… ppl were literally melting, but it’s too squishy vs competent players).
So I switched to Staff/sc+torch, carrion+scavenger, 4/4/0/0/6, double energy/poison.
Real fun I think I will stick with it for quite sometime!
Anyway, how do you feel about necromancer runes? Do you still use them even after the nerf? +15% condi duration is still great, but I preferred stronger conditions with the 7% vitality condi damage increase from scavenger. After all, 1 sec fear every 60 sec is kind of meh… what do you think?
Ps: on a side note. I went to www with the same build. Since I am rather poor I used what I have available: zerker armor+travelers, rabid accessories, zerker back, rabid weapons. Again, I am not saying the damage is “insane” but I swear it’s scary. I wish I had recorded some figths… hilarious to see 1v2 and ppl dropping like flyies. In the end I had 2.4k armor, 1.7k attack, 1.6k condi and something around 50% crit. I know it doesn’t mean anything, but dolyaks (since they keep moving) were going down faster than when using power shatter. Same for npcs. Reckless foes have no escape. Goods ones need to stay on their toes. Loving MtD!
+1
I’d add those new GM traits that, beside MtD, have never been and will never be used (at least for Mesmer)
I have started to dig MtD recently but I lean more toward hybrid. I think it is one of the few traits, if not the only that allow you to use carrion on a mesmer.
But as usual I like experimentig and try my own things. There was a 3D (I think it was from Swish) encouraging to try a double ranged approach, sort of pure power shatter play style, with a mix of berserk+carrion or rabid (talking about wvw though).
I am trying my own version in pvp with GS/sc+focus, carrion, nightmare runes. Still not sure about the offhand. Could be torch though. Tried pistol too but it suffers from the low crit so, not enough bleeds. Discarded the idea.
Anyway, as much as it can sound weird, it does work and it’s so much fun. It is a nice surprise to act as a power mesmer and then drop a load of torment to unsuspecting foes. Watching them run from fear proc loaded with conditions while you are dishing out damage with GS is priceless. Conditions get a nifty 35% duration and direct damage seems hurting enough, also thanks to might from shatters and GS.
I am now curios to see how it all work with rampager.
I know a lot of ppl are skeptical about MtD, let alone hybrids, but how do you see such fusion? Would rampager be any good?
My experience is that it suffers too much when facing heavy condi removal professions, especially on fights > 1. Other than that MtD is really a killer trait
To some extent it was a response to thieves, but even without thieves, people would have discovered the cele + might stacking potential.
Would have they discover it if cele amulet wasn’t buffed and new runes introduced? I don’t think so.
In April they nerfed crit damage, which I agree with. But they also buffed celestial attributes. And introduced the might stacking with new runes bonuses.
Wasn’t one or the other enough to balance the game? Why did they have to apply all changes at once? This is something I do not agree with.
What Swish says it’s true. And the reason is that “cele” professions benefit from all attributes (power, crit, crit damage, toughness, vitality, healing) almost equally, whereas mesmers and thieves cannot (healing comes to mind). It is in fact pointless for those two professions to invest resources in healing and thus celestial attributes become less attractive. On the contrary, “cele” classes fill multiple roles at the same time.
This reflects on builds diversity and roles the two professions can cover.
It is not a coincidence that the meta turned out to be what it is nowadays after celestial gear was buffed during the April patch:
“Celestial Gear
Increased the stats provided from the celestial stat combination by 6.5% to compensate for the new ferocity changes.
Increased the PvP celestial stat selection so that it will use the proper stat ratios. Previously this stat combination in PvP was providing much lower stats than intended.”
It was clearly a poor decision (for us) and a good one for others (included warriors which have seen only buffs to a profession that didn’t really need them)
There’s a clear benefit for running both. No need to succesfully interrupt someone for a benefit.
Of course, the aim is to interrupt important skills. But what if you miss it? Well, you still have CS which can make up for it. Thieves are easier to handle because of that.
Plenty of dazes (chas storm, mantra, F3) + knock back, very good mobility.
I like it much so far. Only think is no sharper images, and not very high crit damage (but compensated by very high attack power)
I have been trying CS+CI with no DE (6-2-6), double ranged, berserker amulet, improved manipulations (cd+range), runes of the pack or centaur, and the results are astonishing. Great survival (decoy, blink and MoD), great damage (power can skyrocket to 3200 with bloodlust and +/- 3400 with might stacking).
As anyone ever tried the two traits together? It’s a hell of fun. If you can get along with no DE ofc…
What would you say the weaknesses are (no DE ofc)?
A small note for those Italian players who are having lag spikes. The problem (my problem) seems to be Fastweb. Although various speed tests show a 20Mb in dowload and 9 in upload, browsing is also fine as well as the general download/upload is, however the game experience is not. GW2 is the only game on my pc suffering from this situation. I am not sure how much Fastweb has to feel gulty since the majority of its services seem to work fine, but comparing GW2 connection with the connection through other providers made me think twice.
I tried TIM, by using hotspot on iPad and the pathping result was astonishing: 2 steps vs 20. No packs loss vs many 100% fail (Telia and ncsoft).
Now, I am seriously considering switching provider.
But is there anyone who can explain to me whose fault this is? Is it Fastweb? Anet? Telia & Ncsoft? Should I really switch provider or ditch the game all at once?
Let’s say I change server (from EU to NA), would this help me with lag? I haven’t heard NA ppl copmplaining much…
As things stand now, I cannot play before midnight because of tremendous lag. Things get better late at night, when there are less people.
PS: am I right or is the megaserver that messed up things by bringing many people to play alltogether? Earlier, there were less players but I never had lag issues
I’d like to show up more often to play with you guys, but after yesterday I realized that I cannot group with NA people. Well, as a matter of fact I can, but I cannot queu for pvp with yourselves.
Lately, (for the past 2 months, at least) many EU players are experiencing tremendous lag spikes, including myself, to a point where I can “safely” play only after midnight (see a over 30 pages 3D in the tech forum). Any game mode before that time will result in a very poor game experience (to a degree where I thought if it’s worth keep playing this game).
Now, do you think that switching to a NA server will improve this lag? If yes, is there a server you’d recommend? I mainly play pvp and wvw.
PS: Is switching server free? can it be done as many times as wanted? Can I go back to the original server, eventually?
Thank you
If vash will accept this challenge, I will give him my alt na account
There is no need. I will be transferring to EU in a couple days
Please, don’t do it. Plenty of lag here. I’m not joking. Go and check tech forum
Mushin. Mushin Sandeep at your service.
Actually, this is a rather old pic when I was using condi roaming spec with balthazar runes. I love the sequence when healing. I think it looks cool ^^
PS: don’t forget to enlarge it when it finishes to load in your browser!
Wat? O.o those weren’t supposed to be public just yet.
ops…
I like this build, nice! Just one thing… Since you seem to have enough HP, why not switching berserker for assassin? You would end up with the same HP as if you were with zerker amulet and no point in inspiration, rougly, which is a pretty popular health pool. However, it would sensibly boost your damage.
See how it goes
I just checked the video Chaos posted on youtube with Ross. And it proved my feeling when I was running that set up: away too squishy.
Although Chaos did lose 2-3 games, I think that could have been avoided if he had been more carefull and used all his resources. For example he went down for not healing at all in one fight or for not using decoy or MI.
The build is scary in its burst, but I see it suffering a lot from blinds and a minimal mistake can lead to defet. A quick one too. Also, it is strickltly a 1v1 build. Any AOE killing the duelist (although it can be cast from afar on a safe spot) will halve its damaging potentials for the swordman will undoubtly die before reaching the target or manage only one hit. Moreover a BF on a reta guardian, or burning from an ele/med guardian can really drain the very low health pool too quickly.
In my opinion, succesfully winning ranked games does not make the build any more viable. I myself found kicking butts for quite few games in a row and than had to rethink the build because versus some professions it was like hitting a brikwall.
It can work, but the same can be said for many other builds which are one sided. Until you face everything else that can easily counter you.
My mesmer is a loot bag, as they say in WvW. In recent days, I duelled about 10 times with a warrior: at best warrior’s health went to 50%. One time I got warrior to downed state but I felt warrior had just some problems.
Today in WvW a warrior got me easily by sweeping with greatsword. I simply run out of dodges, invis, skills… health drops pretty fast. And I had just made build similar to Osicat’s Napalm – not exactly as I could not find exact matching gear. I have similar to Maximum’s build.
I’m about to quit WvW because I don’t know how to play mesmer for winning 1v1 fights, or for escaping from 1v2 fights or solo pew pew ranger.
Warrior can rampage and overrun mesmer in seconds – even a new warrior player without highly tuned traits and skills. What mesmer can rampage warrior down in seconds?
Not trying to be mean but I don’t think it means much… I was watching this warrior duelling a shatter mes and he lost 7/7. Than I decided to duel the mes since he seemed pretty good. I beat him 3/3 with CI 4/4/6. But I find warriors, good warriors hard to beat, especially when using bow/xxx
Sry to derail a little…
@Chaos
I remember when you were playing s/s+Staff CS. I think it was the beginning of your Lockdown journey, if I am right.
Why did you drop it in favour of CI+s/f+Staff?
I have been going back and forth from CI to CS lately and ultimately having fun with s/s+Staff. What did you find not good enough in a 6/4/4 CS?
Thanks
I change build almost weekly so I am all ears and find what you say interesting and happy you posted it.
As you say, I too get a nice streak of winning duels and/or ranked/unranked games and that is when I think I finally found the well balanced build for my play style. But then I run into that thief which may have just outplayed me (but I do not want to openly admit it and blame the build for the fail) and suddendly everything falls to pieces. I scratch everything from the board and start with new ideas all over again.
Skills may be behind the problem but there are certain situations where I feel neither skills nor builds are the issue, but it’s the profession itself. And it’s not a conicidence if some of the pros have switched their main char.
