Agree, clear the game is a success, it made money, it is good quality, compared to ANY othger AAA mmo the amount on content is comparable while not destroying the playabilit of old content.

For me the next area they should focus on is getting wvw improved while balancing and also working on the next expansion – thats moving the game on nicely.

OP you said it yourself, you are bored of the game for the moment, thats ok you know, take a break and wait until it freshens up or not for you personally. Its a subjective opinon, many love the game and it is thick with quality content. Put it another way, the game is 3 years old, and you are now bored of it, thats a good run, and you wont be punished by a power curve if you take a break.

Prior to mmo forums people didnt have the need to declare they are bored of a game and started blaming x and y, they just stopped playing.

Bring Gliding into the Core Game

putting aside assumptions about how much effort it would take (we don’t know this) someone came up with a great idea in another thread whereas they introduced tenu flying cities, so you could for example lower the dev cost by introducing gliding in some zones with these cites. Also would be fun in wvw.

GW1 was a wonderful game and did not have fast mounts, not every game has to be the same. As for stone age, well this is a game, if every game was the same it would be dull, there are many many mmorpg with mounts, choice is good.

i will ignore the ad hominem and qoute yourself:

’I just hate it when developers keep bringing back old stuff. If you like to repeat history and keep doing what you’ve been doing, you should go back to WoW. They’ll give you lots of the “same thing.”

Mounts that give speed boosts are old hat, they introduce lazy ‘ride past content’ behaviour, unless as i said at best they dont offer a speed boost’

Something new and beneficial is progress.

Teleportation does not have to be taken out. They are two modes of transport and neither one can replace the other. They can be mutually exclusive so stop comparing the two.

its not new or beneficial, its an old old idea thrashed to death in other games, although i dont object if its just a skin with no speed boost. However, in saying that it is very likely some people will be more enclined to ‘ride’ past mobs and events rather than stopping to join in or help others and that kind of anti-rpg element we dont want.

next it will be ‘flying mounts so people have more time making exciting choices’ or so the chant goes in those mmorpg with dead virtual worlds.

An entire world with no mounts for player NOR NPC’s is just too unrealistic. Every civilization has used them and yet Tyria can’t figure out how to tame a few? How dumb are these inhabitants? I’m sure humans will have a chance against the centaurs if they had mounts. The tactical advantage is obvious and yet the humans don’t have a cavalry?

Suggestion: Release a Black Lion mount in a similar timing as the Black Lion Weapon Skins. Each new release will have 1 new mount. Cost: 1700 gems or equivalent.

mounts that aremaybe 5% slower that boosted running works, it wont ruin the current map traversal, and gives variately to models. Cant see any harm. If however mounts were >= than boosted running then it devalues a load of skills which is obviously fail.

so mount = slightly slower than boosted running, but interesting graphics v boosted running by magic for max speed. and dont have mounts in cities, we have all been there and thats a mess waiting to happen.

I agree, theGW2 model is best in market imo, appart from maybe EVE and its no coincidence both of these games use professional economists to manage the market. Here are a couple things that we get through this:

After 3 years:

- no sub to play the game – its easy to shrug at this, but 24 hours free access to a persistant server and instances for free is pretty awesome.
- Almost everything that was sellable on day 1 is still sellable (compare that to something like WOW)
- Rich players are allowed to get rich, and there is things for them to buy.
- Inflation is stable, e.g ecto
- New players can join the game and can easily afford gear that makes them competitive and choose to either gather gold or fund whatever they desire.
- Exchanging gold for gems has not ruined the economy.

Not really. This is an MMO, not a Solo Adventure experience. You can afford to make mistakes. If you don’t play the game as intended i.e. solo, then yes the game can be challenging. But even then, it’s easily doable.

Op was referring to solo play which is what I was referring to.

legendary crafting is for people who are happy to play the long game and build up materials as they play – it adds value to their gameplay. IT IS NOT designed for people that want to pay to win to a legendary – thats what purchasable legendaries are for. If you are daft enough to pay your way into a legendary designed for long term play then you are going to pay through the nose for it big time, doesnt take a genious to work that out.

Worse are people that are constantly looking backwards and saying omg i paid x, now its only woth y – you fundementally miss the point of rpg’s if you are doing that.

10,000 Drinks? Why such a grind?

vesica tempestas.1563

Entitled say what.

I remember in the 80’s if you were not good enough and did not practice enough you just did not get to see the final boss, games were fun.

I remember pinball machines where you did not get to see the special features activate if you did not put enough practice in. Pinball games were fun.

I remember in the 90’s to progress in many styles of game you had to farm lots or go through the full game multiple times to get the special rewards and items. games were fun.

I remember mmorpg where you simply you chose to either farr for a thing or not get it, the choice was yours – yup they weree fun too.

And now in GW2 im offered a myriad of different items that take between minutes and years to gather – same fun to be had.

However.. now wer have people who think they are entitled to stuff because its ‘fair’ in their head – they want it, they should get it! fun? no just selfish and short sighted.

This achievement actually upsets me...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

vesica tempestas.1563

So you made a Wintersday achievement out of boozing. I really cannot say it amuses me in the slightest. Several of my relatives were alcoholics (past tense because they’re dead now… it’s not something that can be cured). I’ve seen what alcohol does to people and I think it’s just plain wrong to showcase the over-consumption of alcohol as something festive and desirable. Let alone in a game rated PG 12, when in many countries 12 is WAY below the legal age for alcohol consumption.

you really shouldnt play games, especially games where you slaughter animals and people by the thousand. Showcasing murder and slaughter is ok but in game collecting of drinks is not? going by your post history you actually hate just about everything you touch in GW2, ‘alcohol’ is the new one. You insult your relatives by using them to make a point.

Only challenging part is the raid, is raiding 70-80% of the whole expansion?

Some HPs, general exploration while being constantly attacked – as I’ve heard – even more often than trash mobs did in the first Orr map versions (pre nerf) and very few WPs which punishes players for dying instead of helping. Also several places are locked behind meta events. I agree with you that it’s indeed arguable if this counts as “hardcore” content, but I wouldn’t call this design elements “casual” neither. Still, the open(!) world should at least be explorable for everyone, people shouldn’t be forced to cry for help in map chat or even pay for it on LFG. I have nothing against instanced hard content (call it raids, high level fractals, whatever) because people can avoid them since they won’t “have to” travel through them to get where they want. Map completion was never hardcore, not even when it still included WvW, everyone could do it before.

Please correct me if I’m wrong on some of these points, I don’t know if Anet patched this stuff during the last few weeks. I didn’t really read much here lately after the first month of ArenaNet’s legendary silence.

And about the maps, I don’t get the problem. You don’t have to play through the entire map sequence to fight the last battle, you can just port there like any world boss. You don’t have to be in that last fight either, nobody is forcing you to kill the Gerent, go on TD, play the game, then leave, you can play on the new maps just like any of the older ones.

It’s not about the last battle. It’s about exploring the map. Again, please correct me if the “event/time restricted areas / hero points” are still a thing or if they were patched to be always accessible. If you tell me I’m wrong, I’ll stop complaining here.

for that particular zone everything is available appart from those areas that are connected to the final battle.

HoT is not challenging

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: vesica tempestas.1563

vesica tempestas.1563

I’d like the see those claiming HoT is not challenging link videos of themselves soloing stuff like, say, some of the Hero Challenges, maybe the one in VB with the Vet Teragriff, pack of wolves and mender. We might learn something.

Even if we do get a poster or two that can do such a thing, it means next to nothing (or should).

Those 1%ers will continue to speed run arah naked while watching youtube and eating dinner only to show that everyone else should GIT GUD & L2P. If only means that a very small portion of the community can do it, it doesn’t mean that they need to make all future content suit them, nor should ANet do so.

As has been said, challenge is subjective but building around only the best of the best will make for a very empty game full of only the elitists IMO.

And that’s the sad part, Anet seems to lean towards these 1%ers that tell others to GIT GUD & L2P.

i would disagree, Anet has not built the game around the 1%, in fact only the new raid is at a high end – and eventually that will be become accessable to all once the tactcs are well known and people stop being anal about builds.

I have no problems with grinding .. if i can choose what i grind and i have something
i can buy for that at the end.

However .. in HoT .. they force you to grind what they want you to grind and at the
end all you get is nothing or just an unlock for the next grind.

And really .. 3 total new armorsets in a fullprice expansion after a dev proudly
posted that we will get no more armorsets in the gemstore but instead ingame ?
Since we got only Carapace new in the last 1.5 years i really thought we will get
at least 15-20 new sets with HoT … but kittening whole THREE ????

At the moment i really prefer grinding in Marvel Heroes instead.

How do they force you to grind?

Platforming was peripheral in vanilla gw2. The change to make it integral to the game is why you are getting complaints. People bought an rpg not a platformer.

how exactly is it ‘integral’? People bought GW2 knowing that it had optional jumping puzzles in it from day 1, if i choose to not do a jumping puzzle it has 0 impact on my ability to play any other part of the game. If you dont like something, just ignore it, your not losing out.

Ok, let us take a look then what has changed over the years?
Things including JPs, other jumping shenanigans or excessive leveling in Core Tyria to complete stuff:
Jumping Puzzles in itself
Some ls1 open world stuff
Festivals
Princess and Mawdrew
Wallbreaker JP to finish a map
Mawdrew was the first to relly heavily on JPs. At a time when the game was 2+ years old.
You do not need the JP to complete southsun, the first major patch with new land.
JPs in festivals were optional, the ablity to grind festivals with dailies is gone too.

HoT:
JPs
Adventures
Mastery Points and actual XP
Map completion for Specialization collections
Stuff as Save the city of Gold
Of course this stuff is optional too, but you miss out on much more stuff than you did with Core Tyria if you don´t like to jump or explore. And would you personally like to play a game where you either miss out on much or endure to farm it and then never do again?

ofc it’s optional, thats the point. Mawdrey for example is entirely optional, if you dont do it you dont lose out, if you want a long term goal, its great – i personally just completed mawdrey after starting it a couple months ago, at a net loss of gold, but it was fun for me,

Only an idiot would play a game they dont enjoy. You dont endure a game, you play it if its fun, if not move on. As for HOT, it didnt replace Tyria it added to it, it adds a different flavour to the game, and kitten good fun imo, and i spend most of my time still in tyria. Glass is half full?

If you dont like it can you skip it and enjoy all the other content – yes you can.

I thought you said GW2 would be "No Grinding"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: vesica tempestas.1563

vesica tempestas.1563

The grind that they were referring to would be the grind you would be required to do to do playable content. In other games, in order to do some of the endgame content, you would have to farm a tier of gear in order to even play that content. In this game you can do practically anything in exotics. This includes raids although you’ll have less room for errors. This includes fractals as it’s debatable as to whether increasing enemy stats and adding instabilities is considered content.

- The numbers on the weapons and armor are meaningless. What does that 5-figure number measure? Rolling 6 on a 6-sided dice is the best outcome, but does 14,890 power mean you’re powerful or not? That’s nonsense.

Content means graphics, storyline, unique dialogue, music and so forth. Something that requires effort to create. Good games have generative mechanism that allows for variations with finite content (like Chess). MMOs have no such mechanism and they take repetition to absurd levels. Farming 1 wood log is the same as farming 10,000 wood logs. The experience doesn’t change, you just waste your time.

in the 80’s we collected points and tried to achieve highscores, in the 90’s we tried to get to the end of the game. Now rpg player enjoy collcting and growing material wealth to support their avatar. so farming 1000 is not the same as farming 1 for many, in RPG its not all about the adrenalin rush ands new graphic models every 4 minutes. Some people didnt get trying to achieve high scores in the 80’s, some people didnt get trying to complete games by repeating over and over until they succeeded, some people dont get collecting and RPG’s. Content means many things inclusding having a persistent online world to play in.

One mans grind is another mans pleasure, but if you are fool enough to do something you dont enjoy and call it a grind, then more fool you.

I spent 5 minutes on GW2 today, and it didn’t make me mad, it made me sad.

I really used to enjoy the game. Now it’s just… awkward and clunky.

GW2 has become a chore MMO.

This is exactly how I feel.
I feel sad, because this game used to be so flippin’ amazing.
I took a break for a year, and came back for HoT. I was burnt out after two weeks. Two weeks…of NEW CONTENT! As someone who played GW1 since release, and GW2 since release, the current state of the game hits people like me the hardest, since I KNOW this game used to be great, and I KNOW it still has the potential to be great, but right now, it feels like nothing.

they added Hot on top of that content you felt was amazing, it didnt replace it, I suspect your issues are elsewhere.

Toxicity is subjective, i rarely see it, but I dont try to tell other people how to play and know how to empathise, and I ignore people who try to tell me to use skill x etc. Fortunately GW2 does not have a damage/whoremeter mentality and there is no gear race or contention which is a BIG source of antisocial behaviour. My experience of antisocial players is that they invariably came from a mmorpg background other than GW1.

Learn from WoW

vesica tempestas.1563

I spent 10k hours on 1 character on WOW, 1k in GW1, and maybe same in GW2 now so I have a reasonable outlook, and the only thing GW2 can learn from WOW, is how to not do things:

Gear = power, fall behind the gear race and you are inviable in pvp or raids (and abused for it)
Gear progression rate out of control, basically Blizzard belive that a constant stream of power upgrades > long term goals. (for e.g i joined MOP and within 2 months I had a legendary for an alt lol.
Gear – progression rate is so fast, gear you get quickly becomes out of date.
Foul community, a mixture of jaded, cynical and the arrogant, partially down to a model where everyone tries to be better than everyone else (good old meters to thatnk for that)
Skills are not wide and expansive, you MUST play the meta builds or get abused.
Damage meter culture, ‘OMG’ why did you only do x dps etc etc
Trinity – 3 basic roles, no variation, dull.
Skills – nothing is reactive, its all about perfecting a rotation of button clicks. Whatsmore the general viewpoint on wows own community is that the skills have been dumbed down to a ridiculous level.
Lowest release rate for all the AAA.
Most expensive.
Aged engine
Weak graphics
wrecked crafting (thanks to their last expansion)
Disrespect for its own lore. Ironically WOW is renowned for great storylines, but not with WOD.
no WVW
PVP utterly broken due to balancing issues.
The ‘race’ to max level makes old content dead fast.
Phasing instead of downlevelling players.
5 man up to pug raids balancing broken, you basically gather entire rooms and aoe without caring about dmg or healing.

Thats probably enough to be getting on with.

I tried ESO

played eso for about 8 months, got gold in question – really good fun and value for money with about 300 hours questing, but then at end game, pvp was fun to start but it became clear why the pvp community is sick of the issues in the game, it is a mess, their engine is not coping at all with major lag, animation cancelling is rife and they take a long time to fix balance breaking bugs and exploits.

Re crafting, once you get to end game there is no real economy as such, so the focus is gathering materials to make a couple gear sets. ESO could be a good game and is better than the likes of WOW and SWTOR etc, but I came back to GW2 because the world has a richness and depth to it while ESO feels flat somehow (issues aside).

Combat -- Horrendously Bad?

Purchased GW2 back when it first came out, then proceeded to quit many times for long periods. Pre-purchased HoT too in the hope it would revitalize my interest. Been trying so many times to like the combat, because once you get used to the gorgeous visuals its really the combat that would keep you playing or not. Especially in a supposed action combat mmorpg. Thing is Im just not feeling it, the awkward swings with melee weapons, the strange, twisting body animations. The slow motion-like running, jumping.. The writing below sums it up for me.

Guild Wars 2: Spammy, floaty combat with no resource management, dumbed down buffs/debuffs to the point of tedium, zero oomph, hilariously imbalanced towards Berserker (go berserker or get out), low skill ceiling even for mmorpg standards, no viable role outside of dps, dodge roll ends up being nothing more than a without-fail get out of jail card making the game even more shallow. The only good thing I can say about this combat system is the combo field system. I let my friend try this game and I gave him my build. Despite having never played it, he was killing everyone with ease just because he had an OP build. This has NEVER happened in any other combat centric MMORPG showing how hilariously bad the combat system is.

your mistake is continually returning after ‘proceeding to quit’ when you already knew the game is not for you. No need to be miserable in life, there’s plenty choice out there.

Guild Halls and small guilds

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I’m sure a guild with 5-7 active people can manage that just fine… my guild has 2 active people, not so easy.

We were able to fully max our guild out with just the two of us being active and were really looking forward to getting a Guild Hall with the new expansion, but no, that is not something that is easily done with 2 people.

Then to find out that all the work we put into upgrading our guild beforehand was for nothing, because we will basically have to unlock everything again once we do get our hall. Needless to say, we are not happy.

Small guilds were definitely given a good firm kick in the teeth in this expansion.

a couple people is not a guild, you can act like a guild and work harder top get the same rewards over a longer period, but guilds are about mini communities that work and play together and Guild rewards are balanced for these communities to have goals to work towards. This is adding value for these long standing communities, something that is sorely missing from most mmorpg today.

The people who design those items are not the ones working on the other areas in the game fixing bugs or improving gameplay.

They could fire the item designers and hire people to fix their game.

lol could they now, and what do you think pays for the game? How often do you run against bugs that ruin your gameplay?

ANET - Forced adventures!!??

I will reiterate what was said above.

No one is forced to do anything, especially in a game with no gear race. Being ‘forced’ is the new fashion whine along with ‘gated’ and ‘Grind’ Man up and take responsibility for your own choices in life.

DirectX 11/12 request [merged]

Hot is a massive success, but that has nothing to do with DX12. I already get 60fps at max gfx with a modest system, so an extra x% is a total waste of money, I will have more content pls.

Why do YOU feel pushed into buying gems for gold?, I don’t, I buy what I want, skins can wait, I have long term goals, perfect no?

Change Gliders to FULL flight.

Full flight – dear god no, just look at the mess it made of WOW later expansions. Gliding is a nice compromise, and makes movement meaningful, i.e every event doesn’t get drowned in a swarm of eager farmers, think about it.

there’s countless zones, and this is one of the very few that is extremely difficult. Personally I like the idea of having at least one zone that will punish more than it gives out – it gives us players more choice, same applies to raids. Not having a feeling that a win is guaranteed or even likely makes the win much more exciting.
