This expansion took all that fun out of the game. It was my fav. MMO ever, but now it has to be near last on the list. Goodbye Anet, you lost a customer.

You said a similar thing 2 months ago, but have still been playing up to now, and at the point where they have just applied a massive patch to address a lot of the issues and concerns raised you have decided to remind everynoe that you are leaving again?

Why I believe gw2 fails miserably...

’’OP:

“Hey, I want a real leveling experience. Note the keyword here, “real”. That doesn’t include a ‘manipulated’ one, or one that is serving a purpose. A safety-net is for high level players who want the reward of enjoying themselves at will in low-level regions.[/quote]"

“I’m a mesmer. I’m not worried about receiving damage”

“The game becomes extremely child-orientated when every zone is perfectly balanced for my demands and my comfort – which is completely separate from the actual reality of true MMO gaming, which is all about levelling up,
becoming strong and becoming the best. If you uproot these elements, you risk turning a game into a beautiful theme park resort.”

“The more responses of this kind I read, the more I am starting to feel that gw2 was built for the needy players in mind, who cannot handle the mechanics of a true MM:”

It goes on and on….
———————————-

Lets be frank, you constantly contradict yourself and you don’t seem to know what you want. Your not worried about damage and 80% of the zones in the game you can aoe destroy vast mobs with little effort – so basically god mode where you can aoe entire zones according to your desire, but this is not enough. Then think balanced is child-orientated?

historically you have complained about a whole myriad of things – this is needy, the game is what it is, it is not GW1, and it is very successful and enjoyed by many.

as for OP, he wants GW2 to be like GW1 (a coorpg) he wants to kill things in ‘2 seconds’ but you could not do that in GW1. In short he doesn’t know what he wants.

You can do that in Guild Wars 1. I’ve taken my level 20 to outside kamadan (and other starting areas) and one shot things. It’s boring though and I can’t imagine why anyone would prefer it for playing.

true you could do that in a starting area i guess, but ye you would get as much fun playing whackamole

Game crashing in every large event

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

My game keeps crashing in the major events, no idea whats causing it, and i don’t appear to be the only one affected by this, i’m yet to ever complete the Forbidden City event and the Giant bug lane one crashed as i was running to the reward chest..

Kinda pointless participating if it crashes everytime.

People are saying get the 64bit client but even those players using it are still crashing..

I can’t even seem to find a 64bit client.

try running event viewer and looking at the logs, you may get an indication where the problem lies

I don't understand the opposition to mounts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: vesica tempestas.1563

vesica tempestas.1563

The simple truth is that the majority of MMO players like mounts, even if the majority of GW2 players do not (which I doubt is true.)

They aren’t going to win many more mount-hating converts, but they have a chance to win a good slice of mount-loving converts.

thats not a simple truth, there is no demand for mounts in GW2, or was there in GW1 and that is what matters here. I for one don’t particularly want to see everyone milling about in cities on mounts, or rushing about on maps etc etc. Horses for courses, not every game has to have mounts, choice is good.

carebear game...

vesica tempestas.1563

What has happened to this game? Why on earth does everyone in pvp and wvw require 15 minutes of kitten ing around to even die or kill and vice versa..

I can’t believe how much it has changed since release, I remember when you would make a single mistake and people would instantly capitalize on that and its over you have lost / died…. Now you can continually make mistake after mistake and still take for ever to die or just get pushed off a circle and reset….

Is this is how they make the game beginner friendly? anyone can pick up a meta build have immense amounts of sustain while kitten ing around and still being able to survive… I personally find this boring as hell and the entire game has turned into such an INCREDIBLY slow paced game…

I am assuming this is the way the community wanted the game to turn, I really want to know other peoples opinions on the current ‘meta’.. Are people happy with this?

yup, because pvp games were you insta-burst people is weak pvp that requires the leadt amount of skill. The term carebear is often used in Eve, and it often referes to players who pve and dont understand their build and so get burst down for giggles.

Hello as per the title i’m getting nasty headaches playing HoT, i’ve played nearly 4000 hours in GW2 and never suffered from this and 3 hours in Heart of Thorns and i have a splitting headache..

I had to log out, anyone know why and whats changed?

more likely the headache is because you are not enjoying hot and keep dying because you have not played for years. PS, 4000 hours and you quit 2 years ago, the maths is impressive lol

Now that HoT is actually out and everything, do I get absolutely anything extra from upgrading to HoT? The expansion comes with the entire original game, so will I really be paying $50 just for the expansion and nothing else if I’m upgrading?

you get HOT from upgrading to HOT, you will be paying the typical price for an expansion. How is this hard to understand?

Making them buy the original game twice when HoT was released was just insulting.

This dead horse doesn’t need beating any further.

I think it’s beneficial for a company to understand how and why they lost consumers in order to avoid repeating the same mistakes.

no its your perception that is mistaken. You did not buy hot to support the free to play players, you bought the game because your assessment was that it was worth the price. The price for the expansion is inline with the average AAA expansion price and is at that price because that’s what the market will bear. I for one am happy that new player get the game for free – new blood for the community, I do not have a selfish outlook on life, and in fact HOT made me return from ESO after a 1 year gap, so it worked for some.

Your real issue based on your history is that you personally made a mistake buying HOT because you don’t find it value for money, along with your complaints about balance, SAB, Tempest, WVW, PVP, Legendaries etc etc. Relax wait for the things you proclaimed you were waiting for (and are comming) WVW, SAB, Balance changes and reassess when and if you see the game is fun again, no need to be bitter – in fact this is the benefit of a game that allows you to play or free isn’kitten you get the luxury of choice.

its also a fine line ^^ When a raid leader is only capable of adopting 1 rote memorized strategy then that is where issues arise because it forces builds on people which can be counter productive. However the real problem is that any type of fight that has a dps race element to it is ultimately cursed by this potential behavior. That’s not to say all raid leaders are bad.

why I quit GW2 and considering coming back

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: vesica tempestas.1563

vesica tempestas.1563

Hello players of GW2 I quit the game 2 days after it went f2p for the following reasons:

1: F2P players, I can’t explain how much I hate f2p-ers. More gold spamers the “I can’t do that cuz am f2p” etc. And the most annoying part for me is the childishness…. The pay to play sets a somewhat a barrier for kids to play games sure their parents can pay for it and so on but it is never the less a barrier Ive played a lot of games f2p and p2p and i found the p2p community to be more mature.

2: The game became to grindy.. I have full asc set weps armor trinkets rings for 3 classes (no legendary wep) but after I read the patch notes for the up date that legy armor and trinkets would be added made me lose it.. I want to play the game for its challenge and competitiveness not who has better gear. (Again I know that legy doesn’t give a big advantage)

3: the economy is down. U know why

why am I considering coming back

1 I have some free time on my hands and am bored
and am picking between Diablo 3 and HoT
The favor is for Diablo 3 tho

This is the equivalent of walking into a party and announcing i would prefer to be at another party. With every game you balance what you like and what you don’t like, then decide if you will have fun playing it. What’s the point of this thread?

The realty is 1 player designates themselves as a leader (good) but some try to force people to change their build to match a single players vision (bad) A great team manager adapts the team strategy to match the opponent, a bad leader tries to create 6.4 dps/1.9 tanks etc etc. Worse still, a bad manager threatens to boot someone if their build doesn’t match a preconceived idea.

Then by all means practice what you preach and create your own team, I’ll be thrilled to join with blue gear and hodge podge picked traits.

This is exactly the attitude what i’m talking about, Gear is largely the same across the player base, give or take a couple %. the ‘Blue Gear’ comment is indicative of a learned behaviour that has got nothing to do with GW and comes from a design philosophy from another game.

cool deal so you have no qualms with my choice. lets formt hat group

Sry bud, GW raiding is designed for groups that know each other. Bring the player not the meter.

I’m not your bud, Brah

Whoa whoa whoa, weren’t you just going on about how a leader should just be able to to “adapt” to the situation? LOL wheather you know me or not does not matter. Just go ahead and adapt – put your ecto where your fingers are

oh please take the attitude to WOW its really not needed here. if you bothered to comprehend you would have been aware that i was referring to the player and not the build. A player who uses and Aura and loses 100 dps is just as viable. A player that loses 100 dps because they prefer more endurance and ability to dodge is viable. Most things are viable in GW, what matters is skill and communication.

What have you found “abusive” from raiders? I lead pug groups every week. I have not encountered any abusive behavior.

Something like “Can you change your class?” or “Don’t use x trait here because Y is a lot better.” or even “We are looking for a warrior but you entered as a ranger. Change class or leave.” is extremely offensive in gw2.

Yeah how dare you have to work with your team in the most beneficial way instead of being selfish. They really are jerks for asking you to change a trait! next time they might ask you to go in zerker gear to optimize your dps too!

thres are already a meter available for those that need it, It does destroy the principles of Guild wars, but those who need this kind of thing will always find a way of simplifying the fight to a degree where it matches a pattern they are used to. For e.g rather than adapting strategy to match the builds /players they force (literally) the players into a trinity-like mold. this is why i don’t raid at the moment, this approach is old fashioned, dull witted and stopped being fun after the first decade.

This is the real issue with Raiding, not that the content is hard, its that many are playing it as if they are still playing WOW.

Hello GW2 community!

I’ve had a long break, and played the game on and off… I’ve decided to give it a go again with the new expansion looking pretty good… But the price seems to be a bit steep? When i click on the available now button, it brings me to a screen where i can choose between 3 versions. The standard edition is set to 44,59 euros, and includes the core game? For me that is a bit much, since i already have the core game, got it back at launch. Is there a way to buy the expansion without buying the core game? If so could someone please direct me to that?

Thank you in advance.

and so this question again. The answer is you are not paying for Core, you are paying the standard price for an expansion. Players who do not have core also get it free as an incentive to commit to HOT.

I think the problem with raiding is that ‘min maxing’ is often disguising an attempt by an individual to mold a group into something that’s fits into a their narrow perception on how thery understand a fight, they try to normalize and simplify. Learned behaviour. This is the opposite of the Guild wars ethos where diversity of build is to be embraced. an example would be 1 person has maximized their build for dps, another hasn’t, and has less dps but more auras that suit their style of gameplay. The reality is that both groups would do just as well.

or what if the pure zerker generates less boons or auras
or takes more damage, ‘stands in fire’ more,
or ignores people who are downed,
or puts personal dps over an opportunity to heal someone else who looks low,
or has less skills to use on breaks because he must be top dps
or is one of those idiots that is too obsessed with meters and creates drama
or chooses dps when an aura or boon for the team would be better
or is a leader who is not an expert in a profession and starts telling people what to do based on a dps meter, not appreciating any of the above.

rubbish, GW1 did not have dps meters for its raids that were a lot of fun and could wipe the whole raids attempts for the night easily. this is just tunnel vision based on limited experience by naive commander who try to normalise complicated behaviour and funnel into dps/tank/xx roles so they can micro manage..poor leaders micro manage. A great TEAM works together and knows there strengths and weaknesses, the team does not need a whoore-meter to work out why they went wrong, they can see it from the fight. Remove the meter crutch and people learn to be reactive.

Next will be addons like deadly boss mods eh where there is a ‘need’ to have progress bars to tell people when to jump – symptomatic of a dated encounter design philosophy where a game is based on power curves.

Objections to dps meters are classic examples of the no-perfect-solution fallacy. Just because players that are already idiotic will find a new way to be idiots if given a tool beyond their intelligence doesn’t mean it’s a bad tool. The very same people that would supposedly become ‘toxic’ when given dps meters are already being ‘toxic’.

Dps meters are useful to people that care about winning. Given that raids are supposed to be for players that care about winning I don’t see why there’s a problem.

get over yourself. for your information very very skilled players also disagree with the negative affects of meter, we have hard historical evidence to back that up. I myself was a ‘hardcore raider’ to the point where I spent 3 years raiding 20 hours a week with over 10k hours on 1 character. with a top 3 guild on silvermoon (thats 20 hours in 1 instance per week). I studied meters, i used Rawr, I was regularly top 50 on WOL for all classes. I know the advantages it gives, and like many many others I know the foul affect shared meters have on a community. Being 5% more efficient does not balance the negative affects. Personal private meters are however fine.

Fortunately Anet do as well.

Discrimination is based on human negative behaviour. As for meters we have seen first hand for many years the behaviours invoked through the use of DPS meters (shared)

- Forced build (omg look how good his build is, use it or be benched)
- dps kitten
- bullying
- Peer pressure that forces people to put their ‘performance’ over other behaviour like buffing others.
- forgetting its ok not to be ‘optimal’ in a game and to have fun.
- raid leaders with trying to control fights by simplying and controlling rather than letting fights evolve organically (especially in GW2 where freeform fights and multiple roles are viable)

I know I use DPS meters in games that have them all the time. Its a great way to fine tune your build to put out the absolute best DPS and it makes you feel good when you see an increase after putting in hours of farming for that one upgrade you have been working towards for some time.

Even if the DPS meter was for your eyes only, thats fine. I know I have had fun with other players on seeing who can out DPS who but thats just for fun.

A DPS meter that all can see also helps with those players that feel they can go into an instance and just auto attack instead of learning good rotations. Players don’t want people see them being a carry and not giving their all.

This is all why I would like to see DPS meters of some sort built into GW2…

personal meter is fine, although it should also be tracing your boons , fields, healing, dmg taken. The problem with shared meters is well known, toxic and used by 1 dimensional idiots who do not have the wit to look beyond being ‘no 1 dps’

Sorry I meant by progression “character stats”
For example legendary should have higher stats than ascended
New weapons that drop does not have to only be by their skin, increase the stats on it!
I know that ANet direction is about horizontal progression not vertical but by time every single release, living story or expansion will be more cosmotic items “different skins in other words with thfriends same stats”
What makes you different from the player next to you?
You have glowing armor weapons and he is not yet both have the same character stats
Anyhow, this is just my opinion after playing the game since release so yea I had to speak about it even if you don’t like what I say

hitting a mob with 20 health with a +10 weapon then progressing to hitting a mob with 100 health with a +50 weapon is dull insipid gameplay that causes a lot of problems and antisocial behavior. Is also old fashioned and dull – gamers are a bit more sophisticated these days and are looking for choice and complexity not bigger numbers in a kitten-meter, thats what games like wow and wildstar offer.

The cosmetic stance is no different to GW1 10 years ago, the alternative is bigger numbers power kitten racing.

-wvw rank progression, fighting for your server.
-Improving your skills and learning new builds
-PVE achievement progression
-PVP progression
- gear progression
- Gold/purchased legendary progression
- Legendary line progression
- Masteries
- Alts
- doing all above with friends

What else is there?

most just time it right by being aware of the mechanics, their own ping and reaction times and learning the fight, proven by the fact that the vast majority have completed this fight- its almost old school, a fight you need to think about. Some modern players have simply not learned that its ok to die on a fight a few times.

great attitude OP and you will enjoy the game more for it. The trick to loving the game is not be tempted to research the ‘perfect build’ and avoid ‘minmaxing’ instead play the game as mmorpg used to be played and set your own goals based on what appeals to you and explore your skills and builds as you go, you’ve got a long fun journey ahead of you

Lock on sending items/coin is outrageous

I bought the premium HoT upgrade. My GW1 part of my account has all expansions bought and is 10+ years old.

And yet I cannot do one of the most basic things in an mmo: engage in direct trade with another player.

I can’t send someone money or items or anything. There’s no traditional trade command. And yet the game blocks me from sending things via mail, and I’m told it is 30 days I have to wait.

WTF?

I understand there are problems with spammers, scammers, gold sellers, etc. but this is an example of the cure being worse than the disease.

That’s an absurdly long time to prevent someone from being able to send items or money to friends, family, etc. This is especially true since I’ve spent money on the game.

I’d like to get my wife and my kids to play, but this right here is a huge barrier. I can’t even send them items or money to help them out? Not until I’ve already played for a month?

I almost bought premium HoT upgrades for my wife and two daughters. But not now. Not if we can’t even send items to each other. That’s $300 down the drain for Arena.net and I have to imagine I’m not the first paying customer to be massively turned off by this.

It’s absolutely absurd.

you are confusing what you think you are entitled to with what the game offers. There are very good reasons why the restrictions are in place. However, If you check the forums you will see that there are no complaints about this, so relax and enjoy the leveling experience.

10 man dungeons that are longer than the normal dungeons and just enough difficulty that you cannot zerg and these raids/instances would be perfect imo.

Graphics upgrade?

Will gw2 upgrade their graphics?recently I have seen black desert and its graphic was amazing and was hoping for gw2 to upgrade their graphics

Its a modern thing to think beautiful graphic = pixels per inch when really as it has allways been about artistic talent, imagination and a cohesive vision.

ive played BDO for a couple weeks and yep the resolution of the graphics close by is excellent, but have a look at the distance, its a mess at even top settings. The performance and in particular object pop in’s is awful. Aside from this, its all very samey compare to the artistic talent and interesting vistas you get in GW2.

I would quite happily pay 800 gems for an extra ability to sell trash in 1 click anywhere along with the ability to auto mark types of items as trash. win win.
