My first time doing Arah P4 was something special. I don’t think we wiped and I definitely finished it in under an hours time I am sure it was around 30 minutes. Right after that got my Dungeon Master and been back in Arah only a handful of times since.

@Stinson

Yeah that is because of the LFG tool I still find rather good players in there and I only PUG.

Amazing.

If I advertise for an experienced group I have the right to be as selective as I care to be when pugging which includes removing people who the group feels aren’t contributing at all.

There is a time and place to use Shortbow, Arah Lupi. A thief sitting next to a ranger just pew pew pewing away is useless whether you agree or not.

That lovely 1337 crit damage pales in comparison to the auto-attack chain of d/d. I stated earlier that the point in running dungeons in an experienced group is to finish it as quickly as possible. You are barely contributing to achieving that goal.

Lastly to reiterate what Clumsy has said… Learn to dodge. You are a thief you have plenty of ways to jump in and out of combat to ensure you don’t go down often.

To state this correctly I am talking about for a dungeon. If you honestly thing SB is good damage anywhere and that a d/d condition build is useful in DUNGEONS then you probably need to rethink how you play.

The point of running in an experienced dungeon group is to get it done as quickly as possible so that each individual member can go on to do whatever.

Now let’s consider that 3 out of 5 people in a party decide on a condition build 25 stacks are the most after that they have minimal additional damage. I am not sure but that DoT more likely than not doesn’t add up to what a zerker would pull off in the same amount of time.

@atse
You can use Signet of Agility and Hide and Shadows to remove conditions. There is also a trait that removes a condition while in stealth every 3 seconds.

At the end of the day both SB and d/d condition are both useless.

How is it poor for wanting a party member that is useful to the group? The person used ranged weapons exclusively probably didn’t have a single melee weapon in the inventory…

It is just like a bearbow do you want that person just sitting at the back ranging away having their bear grab the agro of everything in sight and then they refuse to revive you because in their infinite wisdom they are the amazing because they don’t go down?

I don’t understand what the rave is with that build with that as a main weapon in dungeons. It isn’t viable at all except to stack might and then you switch to S/x or D/x.

I was just doing CoE and I generally don’t care how people want to play but when I saw that the thief was using SB for a main weapon I just got irritated then I saw that she switched and had p/p as the off hand combination, I immediately voted to kick the person. No one else voted to kick her and we finished the dungeon with her but I feel that the person just wasn’t of much use.

Hell I feel a PVT condition built d/d thief does more damage than SB probably not true but if I am in the middle of it all using d/d and s/p if any other thief is coming into the room they need to step it up and learn to dodge properly.

It depends on your current level. If you are under 30 then you just have to do hearts/events/crafting to get that level up to at least 30 before anyone will let you in their group.

A benefactor will eventually send you a letter telling you that a new dungeon is available and it will be placed on your map from there you just have to walk to the area to get the WP and you can start that dungeon.

I don’t mind helping new people every so often, but in those cases I won’t put experienced only.

I got one of these yesterday in TA from a ranger with 853 AP I am not usually the AP == skill people but it is like… I posted as EXPERIENCED Aetherblade EXPERIENCED which equates to knowing the path…

With the cheapest food you will probably even make little profit. Slightly faster runs and slightly less chance to wipe and get repair fee.

I really don’t play to get huge amounts of gold it is nice sure, but honestly I don’t know why I play really just the satisfaction of beating a dungeon.

10 – 15% damage increase would be amazing but like I said I play with randoms and most time they probably aren’t using foods either so again it would feel like a waste if I am putting everything into it just to carry them a little bit DPS wise.

In organized groups I am sure you all pile the foods on and just melt everything. I want to be an efficient player and see those high numbers, but I hate having the feeling I am the most useful person in the group.

viciouspike.8624

I rarely… I never buy/use foods I genuinely don’t see the point behind them. Then again I always play with randoms and don’t see the point in spending 2 – 3G on food just to have the chance of some of it going to waste.

Last night I was playing with a group of people though and they got terribly upset that I wasn’t using any food going so far as saying leave the dungeon and get some. I ended up getting squash butternut or something ~20s ea? Sure we got through the fight but I feel the food wasn’t really worth it as it mostly just added precision and a little vitality.

So again how useful are foods and I guess what food should I get, if any, that will be useful?

pumping precision is only really good if your sole aim is to maximise reflect damage, because power doesn’t scale reflect damage whereas reflected damage does use your base crit%.

and because most organised teams already hit 100% crit chance with buffs up, the boosted precision is mainly for solo play.

So what you are saying is precision is pretty much useless more or less?

What do you use to get the ranger runes bonus?

This is why I thought Ruby wasn’t even really worth it. I looked around at a few guides and pretty much blindly followed them. I never had the time or care to do any calculations myself.

I stated earlier that I was using Golemancer before and only recently switched to 5 Scholar and 1 Baelfire. I went from hitting 9k with backstabs to 11 – 12k.

Read my post btw, it is actual numbers. You can just google your question and get them, but as long as your above 90% health about quarter or more of the time, go scholars. There’;s actual calculations for this sort of stuff but I’d rather not know. So let’s say your fighting alpha COE P2 (only have to worry about the huge aoe circles) and you manage to dodge every one. your health would be above 90% defnitely most of the time in that fight. so scholars is better. but lets say you screw up your timing, get downed and rally with like 20% health. and then get downed again awhile later (and maybe die). in that case rubys would be better. I realize this is kind of a terrible example but I don’t know how to explain it better.

Yeah I read your posts and I understand your example. I was using Golemancer stuff for the longest and only just decided to swap to Scholar because I got sick of the golem and since I use an asura people would see it and think I had that for an elite and switch to it…

Thanks for your input.

When in doubt don’t say anything that way you can’t do any wrong. When they mess up on part of a dungeon just direct them in the right direction saying something like “it might be easier to stack here” or “when you see this try to dodge.”

I have had super elitist people in groups where if we wipe once they rage saying the whole group is terrible then quits. You can’t please those people. It also helps if you take lead in the dungeon from the start by jumping in a spot that you want people to stack at then you agro and run back to the spot.

Well, that is a first.

I remember at the start of the game I did this dungeon a few times with my guild. At that time we had very little knowledge of the game, we played badly but we were good willed.
We did the hacking part many times, but we had no knowledge of the “stack hacking” method. We did it by killing everything while one guy hacked levels one by one.
It was a noobish method, it was chaotic, it was risky, but it was FUN.

You take away all the fun in the game by facing encounters in an unintended way.
I do not understand why people would want to faceroll Alpha, the hacking part, like this.
Do you really get more fun from having the “loots” fast and safe rather than by overcoming challenges?

I’d probaby act just like that elem in your group.

I asked if they preferred the speed method or if they wanted to do it regular and they said speed. I understand wanting to do a dungeon properly but if you say you want to do it one way then just ignore said instructions what is the rest of the group to do?

This is more of a rant thread.

So I decided to teach people how to run CoE today because I had nothing better to do… Now I have no problem dying and I am generally a pretty level headed person. I get 4 people (an ele, ranger, and two thieves, I decided against my better judgement to choose a thief as well) who are brand new to the dungeon and it starts out good everyone stacking the appropriate places and listening to well laid out instructions. We choose P1 and I tell them to stand under alpha to avoid rock AoE we do that and it is sweet. We then get to the golem with the 5 turrets and it is good. Now we come up to the console and I explain the 1 – 4 method show there where to stand and tell them I will protect while they stand up there and someone counts down. The elementalist then takes it upon himself to start hacking the console as soon as we get back in the room. I ask him to wait but he is super pro. We run out and kill the golems again we set up and this time the ranger doesn’t hack so I try a work around where 3 hold agro outside while the other 2 hack/defend. The elementalist runs straight into the room runs around the console a few times and upon death he gets upset because he was holding the agro. I elaborated that hodling the agro in the room will only cause the golems to attack the hack/defend people. Upon respawn he does exactly that again. I eventually tell them to kill all the golems. Now the elementalist runs in and tries to hack it. Now we are at alpha I say stack to make this easier we get him down halfway before we all wipe. The elementalist then decides on respawn to just rush into the room and try to solo Alpha in his defense he lasts a good while before turning into a crystal and death. We all rush in again and the ranger and the ele decide to just run all around the map we wipe a few people decide to repair armor the ele rushes in again by his self this happens at least 5 more times before they finally stack and we beat it. Now is Bjarl I tell them to stay near the pillars but the ele and ranger stand in the middle fighting him getting upset that they are only doing 13 damage. They eventually figure out how it is done and we pass him and at this point I am just exhausted between a personal issue and the lack of listening I don’t even tell them about alpha I just stand in the stack spot pull him over and attack completely my fault but whatever we wipe. The first person in the room to fight alpha again is the ele. Oh does he fight valiantly just to get crystalized and die. This happened a few more times before I just got up and walked away. The best part of it is that in order to finish the dungeon out at least 3 hours after we started they decided to stack…

Now I understand why no one likes teaching dungeons…

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: viciouspike.8624

viciouspike.8624

Vicious, It’s not a big deal for everyone, but not everyone has a top spec comp like you have.

I personally don’t have a problem with the Mac client, but it doesn’t run as well on all systems. And, it’s insanely obvious how much better it runs on bootcamp.

Also, sometimes, when they “fix” something on the pc client, it innately breaks something on the Mac due to the wrapper and such.

I personally can run the gw2 client while having photoshop, illustrator, dream weaver, a browser with at least 10 tabs, sometimes 2 browsers for testing, plus iTunes, several finder windows and activity monitor going without any issues, but those machines running 4gb aren’t so lucky. Gw2 uses more than 1.5 gb of memory alone plus one of 4 cores (on a 4 core system), plus another ~.3 gb for the wrapper, it’s not always as easy sailing for lower specs. It’s very obvious then and most of these systems are minimally upgradable.

So, I imagine that would be why more peeps are wanting a native client.

I personally just want us to have a nice support base that is dedicated to helping us get any issues we have fixed and maybe get us out of beta and running like civilised peeps. People just want the same support as the pc peeps for the product they paid for!

Yeah I understand that and I was going to post for most people to just upgrade their RAM and that would probably work wonders and it is fairly cheap to do, I am under the impression that most stuff pre-2012 was user upgradeable RAM so just look on Apple support and you can’t really mess it up. I have a 2008 MacBook that I wouldn’t dare install this on… Programming on it is hard enough so I do get why a native client would be useful just stating my own personal experience. Don’t mean to sound condescending with any of this.

I believe this was posted to try and show off rather than to be helpful in any way, especially when you consider this won’t even be a viable farm in 3 days, so I’m going to stop posting here.

All dungeons are “puggable” I have never organized a group just posted on LFG or said it in LA and get the dungeons done in 20 minutes or less most times. CoE is the best dungeon to PuG in my opinion.
