Okay, why do warriors and mesmers don’t get a nerf on their invulnerability skills? For a warrior, I’d agree, they are on the weaker end of the PVP-scale but mesmer?!
Come on, mesmers is one of the strongest. If eles and engis gets nerfs on their invuln skill, so should mesmers.
They dislike ranger because ranger is pigeonholed into very few viable builds for both pvp and pve in terms of endgame content.
Welcome to GW2, this is true for almost any class except thief and mesmer as far as I know.
You’re talking about highly co-ordinated group play. This happens about 1% of the time in WvW.
I haven’t really had problems against them but I haven’t played for over a week, and the explosion of HGH has only recently begun.
What I do against their Supply Crate is killing it with Burning Speed and Churning Earth. Yes, those are skills that could have landed on the engi (try to hit both) but the supply crate needs to be killed asap.
They don’t have tons of invulnerable. They have 1 (unless traited but most people don’t take this) just like us when using D/D but theirs is on a slightly lower cooldown. They also barely have access to stability so you can use CC against them and that’s probably the best way to go.
Takes us out of our rythm bro!
I use mine, but not every fight. I mostly only use it if I need it.
Drakeco, I’m starting an engineer because of your videos. I’ve said that on your last vid too xD One question: what’s your opinion on Pain Inverter for this build? It seems like it’d be very strong.
Engineer can’t swap weapons in combat, only kits.
I want to try a condition build, seems interesting. Especially since I’m asura and the extra confusion skill could be awesome. But I don’t think I can stand staying in earth almost exclusively… seems boring
You know, somehow I get the same feeling from it, I think. Despite some of the limitations, it’s by far the most enjoyable class for me to play. Any idea why that is?
Because it is ‘Straight to the point’. When you play the said ‘complex’ classes you tend to give value to a class that can charge in and slaughter opponents no questions asked and with the weapons of your choice. It is refreshing.
That’s the exact reason why I don’t enjoy many classes in the game, especially the warrior. Just too simple and straightforward. I played warrior first back in octobre when I was a noob but now… hell no. I like something where I need a litlle more than 5 skills. (This is mainly for PvE talk)
Oh and that guy probably has multiple warriors cause they’re easy mode in PvE and to farm with. I know a guy in my guild with 4 warriors.

I really wanted to use Air all the time, but I agree, it does seem weak compared to fire… I guess I’ll go look into a D/D build that still lets me use Air.

They’re honestly easy kills for confusion using classes since they loooove to spam their skills. I think all the thief HS spammers went ele. *puts on helmet
The reason is that we get fked over more by confusion than other classes. Attunement swap = skill, dodge = skill, evasive arcana = skill. This all adds up to some hefty damage that we take in literally 1 second just because we have these traits/class mechanics.
On the other hand, I haven’t been owned by confusion thus far. I mostly just do nothing or do Mist Form.
Oh, and I don’t notice that many actually. I have fought far more of any other class than eles, except engineers. And the other eles mostly use staff.

Every race in the game runs at the same speed. Asurans are closer to the ground, so it only seems faster when in first person mode.
Yeah I know this but Asuras seem to walk faster and that makes a big difference to me.
Why do people insist on having elementalists as ranged casters. I wanted to create an elementalist as soon as I heard it has a melee set. It makes me feel like an Avatar (from the last airbender) which is sick!
I’ve only tried D/D yet cause it’s also the most fun to me. I might try S/D for a challenge. What I dislike though is that your main damage comes from Air while the other attunements are more a hit or miss. I feel D/D is more reliable.
My Elementalist is Asura. It’s my favorite race in the game. What I dislike with big races is that they walk slower, although my D/D runs quickly always, so that’s not really relevant
Asura’s animations are pretty cool for say Burning Speed or Earthquake. A big thing is that all effects are quite a lot smaller. Voice animations on male charr is pretty sick but IMO Asura female are the best even though mine is male. Check IntigoGW2 on youtube for voice.
At this point, after the subtle nerfs that they’ve seen, I think that the reason why they’re OP is a combination of their absurdly high mobility, tankiness and ability to deal burst damage at the same level as a zerkers ele with a valk ammy/zerk jewel. Their AoE healing is pretty kittening strong still too. Oh, and they have AoE protection on demand, one of the most underrated things that an ele has. I guess their 3 stun breaks are pretty good too. Lightning flash is amazing as well. And I suppose their blast finishers. Their CC is pretty good too I guess.
They don’t deal as much damage overall as you might think. Ok, I take that back, I’ve been hit for 6k firegrabs by eles in valk ammys. They’re good at everything.
Fire Grab is so hard to hit though, that I think we can let it crit for 6k.
Yea, firegrab can be hard to hit. So can blowtorch in the exact same way. Really good eles land it a good 75% of the time. It can be fickle, I know.
But the point of my original post with regards to valk ammys is that the stat distribution ends up so that they do as much damage as zerkers WHEN they crit. Their lack of crit is made up for by their access to fury which is equal to 400 precision. I know it’s total RNG, but when the stars align and a calf is slaughtered in sacrifice to the RNG gods they literally do as much damage as zerkers.
That’s what I don’t like. It’s more of a problem with valk ammys than eles TBH. Again, I KNOW that they have much much less crit than zerkers, but tell that to the guy who just got crit twice in a row.
Yeah I understand but that’s the same for thieves for example. I’ve hit for 5k, 5k, 6k, dead on my thief and the other time my hits don’t crit and it’s barely 6k in total. Criticals are supposed to do this.
Where do we get a free stunbreak? NOWHERE
Where do we get a free condition removal? NOWHERE. Just like you need to trait for it with 10 in Shadow’s Embrace, we need to trait with it with 10 in water. You saying we get it for free shows how little you know about our class…Which class in the game can field 3 stun breaker utilities and get at the same time awesome condition removal in the process? All that in a package where you only need a single trait to reduce all 3 of your utilities CD by 20%.
I’m not denying cantrips are great utilities and that we have tons of condition removal. I was saying that your statement of getting it for free without any traits whatsoever isn’t right. Oh, and the deception skills on thief are pretty good themselves too.
I play a bunker DD ele (in WvW I play hybrid) and what I like most with me would a mesmer. They bring a lot of chaos to the table, just like an elementalist does and together they do seem like a small army, instead of just 2 people.
I’m pretty much fine for any class though. Except maybe thieves. While they are great finishers and can wreck havoc, I dislike the constant stealthing, this means the other group will all focus me or the thief will SR and you take full focus.
I deleted my asura engineer for this. A few days ago I recreated it because I was testing different classes and to my suprise, I didn’t have it happen. I was playing pvp with Elixir S constantly on my bar. Not even once..

You compare a Full GC thief with a no trait point spend Eles?How about make it simple that none of them is specced and none of them naked and compared the stats. It would be more accurate that way.

The full G/c specced Thief does have same Toughness + Health as an untraited Elementalist ( cause u run berzerker amulet and have no
+toughness / +vita in the dmg traitlines ).
As soon as the Ele starts to spend traitpoints he will have more Toughness / Health than the thief !Ah not really, if u are a thief and using SB, simply press Inflitrator Arrow or Shadow Step to move away and Shadow Return, or simply using ur Hide In Shadow Kill, Roll for Innitiative,etc…. And the very first reason they try to root you is either prevent you from escaping or ready for big burst.By simply moving away, you mess up their location and mess up their combo
Sure, i could spend 6 Ini to SB#5 but this requires me to have my weaponswap ready + 6 initiative.
Same for rootbreakers / stunbreakers.
They need to be off cooldown, and i must have em in my skillbar.Elementalist does get it for free !!!!

Eg. Thief needs at least 10pkt in ShadowArts for Condition removal in stealth + somehow access to stealth.When i need to shortbow, because i need to evade or eg nmy is lurking away i am locked for 10 sec without any condition removal besides
Signet of Agility ( if u have it, most unlikely ).
Or i need to use SR ( 60sec c/d ).

Because attunement swaps are also very short C/D !I was playing NG for some time, now back on thief, the first games were so horrible, because i forgot about weapon swap coooldown .
It really hinders you so much, but well somehow its neccessary – but NG and Ele do have a big advantage here.And before someone argues that we ( thief ) would have a too big advantage without C/d on weaponswap, because we do not have c/d on our abilitys.

Lightning Flash is useful anywhere. sPvP and PvE. In PvE it’s more for D/D but in mid tier level FotM (18 atm) and in CoE it’s very handy too have.
How come people are saying this is a hard counter to elementalists?
A properly build ele has access to these condition nerfs.
1 on water swap (personally don’t take this) (15-9s cooldown)
1 on water swap because of removal on regen (traited) (15-9s cooldown)
1 for every cantrip because removal on regen and cantrips give regen (traited)
3 for Cleansing Fire if you take it (45s cooldown I believe, can be traited)
1 for Cleansing Wave (D/D) (40s cooldown)
1 for Evasive Arcana dodge (every water attunement swap) (15-9 seconds cooldown)
Heals
Glyph heals removes one condition when healing in water , gives regen (traited to remove condition)
Ether Renewal is a long channeling heal that removes a condition every pulse, and there are EIGHT
All this together makes me think elementalist is the class with the best condition removal in the game. Yes, they can be killed with conditions, but to me I think it’s the hardest to take down.
Why not release a new weapon that necromancers and mesmers can use too? They have limited weapon options too. The wand would be a cool option IMO. It’s onehanded but I’d make the skills 2 handed, like the staff.
I’d also like a main and/or offhand sword. I really like my D/D, it’s all I play since it’s melee and so flashy and versatile but I’d like a change without having to go ranged.
Are thieves really crying about that 1s extra reveal? That’s sad. I have played a thief before so I know that this change is nothing.
The clones aren’t the real problem. What is difficult though, is countering everything a mesmer can do.
- Phantasm: 3-6k damage. To avoid or not to?
- Sword 3: To avoid or not to?
- Blurred Frenzy Mind Wrack Combo
- (Maybe Mirror Images and Cry in there)
- Shatter combo is over, back off and go into staff evade mode with phase retreat
- Drop a Chaos Storm, swap weapons and here we go again
That’s what a shatter mesmer does and it’s extremely hard to counter if it’s played well. Even on my bunker ele, I can die to a burst like that if I’m not prepared. A thief might be able to backstab for 15k (happened on my glass mesmer) but a mesmer can do amazing spike damage in 3 seconds as well.
I’m on lv 14 fractals now and barely have to range anything yet. I’m going to try to get as high as possible by using daggers as much as possible. It’s the most fun playstyle to me and it’s why I actually started elementalist (before seeing this build
)
@Bubbles: you can have even more might stacks. Ring of Fire > Dragon’s Tooth > Phoenix > Earth > Dodge roll > Earthquake and finally Arcane Blast
What makes EA so strong is that you can use it in every attunement direct after each other. There’s only an ICD with every attunement. I started noticing when my heal from water went off right after I blasted with earth to stack might. I tested it out more and it’s like that.
All others classes… Then there’s the mesmer

That’s weird. I saw a youtube vid of high level fractals (50+) and 2 of the 4 elementalists were using daggers.
Elemental attunement is so powerful. Same with Healing Ripple. And the condition removal on regeneration. For skills, I’d say Lightnigh Flash. Perfect for setting up Churning Earths and can be used defensively too.
I’m a relatively new elementalist but after deciding out of my 4 lv 80s that this is the funnest, I got my ascended amulet on my ele. I went for the all stats one because like ThiBash said, we benefit from all and it gives more in total. I don’t like the magic find though, basically worthless. IMO, the all stats ones are good but I’m not getting them all. I got the amulet and I might get an ring but the other ones will be cavalier, berserkers or soldiers.
Start the combo with sword main hand and lock them into place. That’ll help with your burst already, if they don’t step away, which most don’t unless they have the utility on cooldown.
I think healing in D/D is great but it doesn’t profit as much from healing power. Hence why only a few of my trinkets (3) have healing power. Later on those will be replaced with cavalier or berserker ones anyway. I feel I am bunker enough without the healing power so I’m opting for damage instead.

I’ve tried engineer several times, always deleted it because I didn’t find it fun. I recently made another one and now it is a lot more fun than it used to be! This is because I got better. Engineer is a hard class to play but very fun
Now what I wanted to ask, could you give me an idea of your FT build? I like the wepaon but haven’t found a great build for spvp yet outside of 100nades/ I’d really like to use the FT in pvp though.
if BS is a basic maneuver, why block it should be something requiring skill ?
You just have to press 1 button to block… Pressing 1 button is a basic maneuverIt is. But it doesn’t work obviously since BS can just be repeated.
And Shield Stance last 3seconds… also block can be repeated… so ?
I has a 30 second cooldown. I’m sorry I didn’t understand what you were trying to say…
That nothing requires skill … just press 1 button. it’s easy, a monkey can do that.
if you don’t consider positioning and timing I don’t consider cooldowns…btw it has been stated that there are multiple options to avoid BS, not only a 30s cooldown skill.
A mesmer has a skill saying “block next attack” and lasts for two seconds. Now since stealth lasts for 4 secs, it takes anticipation and timing to use those two seconds at the correct moment. But there have been times when I use it, it works, and I still get hit immediately after that.
So I used skill, timing, I saved up my CD for a chance to use it…and what benefit do I get? Nothing.
Would you tolerate this for any other skill in the game? Come on…I’m not being unreasonable here
As for the 30 second cooldown, it’s useless as soon as the thief stealths again 3 secs later. So it’s not as if this is a hard counter to a BS. Surely you’re not complaining about it?
I have been saying this for a while now and I totally agree with you. I play a plethora of classes, as well as a thief, before anyone says that I need to play a thief.
To the people saying you can dodge, yes I can. But dodging takes a while to recover so I can’t do it infinitely. Also, you can just CnD IMMEDIATELY if you missed you backstab and went out of stealth. Press CnD again and you’re in stealth again, ready for another try.
If I were one of the devs I’d make it so blocking and a dodge removes stealth. Only those 2 though. You can still try 5 times to finally hit me, but if I actively dodge or block it, you should be revealed.
Anyway, I think this topic doesn’t matter a lot anymore, looking at the upcoming change to stealth. They will still be able to “negate” blocks but at least they can’t reapply stealth whenever they want.
Thieves already have a huge advantage. They don’t break stealth after getting blocked. Idk if this will change but atm, it’s nonsense. A thief can try his backstab a couple of times, even if the other person blocked and dodged.

It was never a problem:P For those who at least knew how it worked:> People watched the flame where it was going, should watch where they turn camera at with right mouse button. Still FT is best used without actuall target.
How it used to be was that it shoots where you look at. Thing is,.. looking at where your camera is angled, severely hurts you. I look around for more enemies while fighting, to ensure not getting grouped on, and with a flamethrower, your fire ill just miss. Now, if you target people you can actually look around while fighting.
Did you find it fun that you couldn’t look around while firing while all other professions can?

Nevermind. Didn’t realize Cone of Cold also healed me.
Let me put it this way then: Are there any skills that you find yourself not using ever, or not often at all, simply because others (attunements) are off CD instead?
The only skills I don’t use often is auto-attack (maybe once every 50 attacks) and Earth 3 (only to catch people running) . I use everything else.

@Razor: good advice but I don’t agree with the notion that PVT can’t kill anything. We can kill a lot of things, you just have to make sure your heavy hitters hit. I’m PVT myself with a few berserker jewels and I do fine.
Mine is female norn but I might make a second one. I’m picking asura for that. My female norn is pinholed in a few armor sets and I liek variety. Asuras simply look good in everything. And their animations are just too awesome.
Try to stay above 50% by healing early. Switch attunements very quickly to get protection, regen, swiftness,…
And the best tip. Constantly move around in a non predictable way. I turn 180 degrees every second just to make it harder for him to backstab me.
15 second CD on RTL to now 20 second CD on RTL. And with an attunement CD at 9 seconds (30 arcana), there are times now where your RTL might not be up when you switch back to air attunement while previously it would be up.
This. Even though it’s actually not that much of a longer cooldown, it makes a lot of difference since now you actually have to attune twice to air to have it.
Wow, you invested a lot in critical damage. My ele has 2657 power or something unbuffed and only 35% critical damage. With 15~ stacks of might because sigil of battle I get 7k churning earths. If I were you, I’d bump up your power. Critical damage gets calculated from that.
^ This happens every single party join now, at least for me it does. It’s quite annoying because I also have some group heals and seeing who’s low on hp to heal them can help a lot. Now half the time I can’t see where people are and what their hp is.
