WvW waypoints not auto unlocked

Very annoying indeed. The waypoints on the alpine borderlands used to be auto unlock except for the spawn (which you could simply unlock by using either asura gates or wvw window). But ever since alpine borderlands have been brought back into rotation you have to discover all waypoints on the borders (except emergency waypoints) which does not make any sense seeing that they are neither part of world completion anymore nor do you get any rewards for map completion. Gladly eternal battleground is still auto unlock.

So I wanted to trade in my left-over Furniture Coins for Super Clouds, but when I tried to type in the amount I wanted to purchase (which equaled the amount of coins I had) it didn’t work. As soon as I started typing in a number it became highlighted in red with a mouse-over telling me “1 Max, Limited by: Single Purchase Only”.
Since you can buy multiple Decorations one after another just fine I doubt that this i working as intended?

A moment ago I was chasing a dolyak from Faithleap Quarry towards bay, trying to prevent the enemy from upgrading “our” bay to T2. But when the dolyak reached the sentry between Garrison and bay it suddendly disappeared and on the minimap reappeared in Faithleap Quarry, then seemed to be walking right through the cliff (were the minotaurs are). After a few seconds it reappered right in front of the portal of bay…

Allthough I personally find server pride and having a constant core of people you play with important, I think that a lot of problems of server linking will not manifest ingame but rather outgame. Most servers have their own ts, some even have community forums and server meetings. It’s already been a pain in the behind to get people to join those before world linking, how bad will it become if servers get relinked on a monthly basis? How many ts spys will there be? What will reset be like if you first have to verify all the new people before you can actually start zerging?

Yeah, especially if every special snowflake wants to be the asura condi reaper commander.
It would help, but only because people are unwilling to adjust their playstyle to make it easier for their own guys.
One could say it is partly in the hands of the players.

I’ve commanded on asura, norn, charr and sylvari and people have trouble seeing the tag either way.
And not everyone wants to create a new character for commanding.

I don’t have a problem with linking and kitten. Those of you people who are complaining about queues and kitten just don’t because you choose to be up there stacking tier 1 and tier 2 or even 3.

errr… not everyone chose to be there. I know people who moved to lower tiers to escape queues and when world linking happened they suddendly found themselves back in tier 1 with even more queues than on their old server \o/

Btw your post could use some paragraphs and stuff like that, it’s a pain to read.

I believe there was a post recently that there won’t be a WvW season for the foreseeable future.

If you’re really interested in GvG tournaments, there’s some people trying to organize things like that. For example the German community was planning to do a tournament next month:

Unfortunately one of the requirements is that the commander has to be able to speak German but I guess you could always contact one of the people named at the end of the document and ask if there’s something planned for international guilds as well.

Our primary motivation for avoiding running another tournament, is that at the end of every tournament we saw a permanent dip in the number of players playing WvW. Presumably this was due to players burning themselves out during the tournament.

Just wow… people have been asking for more tournaments ever since the last one (which was in fall 2014, wasn’t it?) was over and I know lots of people who quit wvw/the game because we didn’t get them.
Every time we’ve been asking we got answers like “oh we just want to sort out this issue” and “now we want to sort out that issue but don’t worry, tournaments are coming” and now we get a lousy excuse like that?
WvW almost died (to be a little overdramatic) because people got bored and didn’t like the changes that came with HoT and you think a tournament would be what drives people away? NO! Numbers drop after each tournament because the tournament first RAISES them. It brings new players into WvW (which our communities are in desperate need of) and brings back old players. Of course afterwards players need a short break – it’s only natural. But people who’ve still been playing WvW without us getting tournaments for 1.5 years now (!!!) will stay on the long run. So will new people who joined only because of the tournament and happened to take a liking into WvW.

If you want to keep people in WvW after the hype for bringing back the old borders and world linking is over, give us tournaments.

Pip lost for your “party” member is normal play.

That way, nobody try to fake DC to not have a pip lost.

So it’s just a way to punish people who queue as a team? Because as you said, that way nobody will fake a dc anyway :x

It lasts for days I think. And unranked counts as well. Not taking a queue also = dishonour. So if you queued, went afk, came back after a long time you might not have even realized you got the first dishonour.

IF I got dishonored before (maybe also because of a dc – I certainly do not queue and go afk because people who don’t accept when queue pops annoy me a lot) it must have been last season which would be a pretty long time to keep a punishment active.

Anyway, I restarted my internet, waited until dishonor was over, connection was stable (or else I wouldn’t have risked playing), entered another match, dc’ed again and got 45min dishonor this time. Pretty kitten harsh.
Now I won’t be able to play anymore pvp today because I got guild raid in half an hour (not that I would want to, I really am sorry for the two teams that I caused to lose but my internet was stable all day long before I entered the matches) and I’m not sure if I want to play pvp this season again…

So I was playing pvp with a friend when my router decided to crash and when I finally got back into the game I had to face FIFTEEN minutes of dishonor and my teammates still lost a pip allthough I dc’ed pretty early in the match. You must be kidding, right? For people who have a limited time to play the game each day and maybe also got other stuff to attend during that time (like guild raids) that’s an eternity.
I understand that you have to make sure people won’t fake a dc to prevent pip loss but fifteen minutes is rather harsh and there must be a way to make the system distinguish. Like if the score is still pretty even (as it was in my case) it’s unlikely that the player dc’ed on purpose.
Anyway, thanks for ruining my evening.

I perhaps worded it poorly. I switched to druid because we had no support players. What I was trying to say is that I only play druid when I have to switch to it because the team comp lacked sustain/support.

Honestly I’m not comfortable with staff at all same with CA, much more used to GS but trying to pick it up. I’m not a good (relatively) ele player so druid was kinda all that was left. I used to play the LB/GS but advice I was given is that switching to the mender/SNR build would be a better choice.

Please make yourself more familiar with the build or ask someone else to relog. There’s no point in playing a build that you aren’t comfortable with just for the sake of the group setup. At your current skill level you’re really not offering much support for your team so you could just as well play your main class.

It’s a known bug in pvp/wvw that downed enemies will slide away on the ground (not always in a lying position, sometimes also standing). Sometimes it also includes that they don’t take damage/can’t be stomped or at least not at the exact position where the body is shown. Might have just been this bug and he simply healed up using skill 4?

- make yourself familiar with your staff skills and use them more frequently. In the video you mainly use it as a blink and apart from two situations only stay on longbow all the time.
- same goes for your celestial avatar.
- when you get the message “obstructed” don’t just stand there and keep pewpewing, change your position so you can hit the enemy.
- you fight a lot from outside the point and don’t even bother to hop in and contest when the enemy is capping. Especially the graveyard is big enough that you can stand in the circle while still evading aoe without trouble.
- 2:05: why waste your elite when all enemies are already dead and you just stand there?
- 2:43: very poor positioning, you don’t only keep standing at the edge of the fire field, you even walk right into the middle of it.
- 3:11: why use longbow 3 at that moment? You are under no pressure so there’s no reason to stealth and it actually prevents you from capping the point.
- 6:00: your teammates are low, now would have been a good moment to make some use of your staff skills and support them! But you just stand there and autoattack, waiting for your mate to go down so you can teleport him to you. And of cause the enemy follows directly because you didn’t use your immobilize. And because you are standing outside the circle once again they can cap while you are rezzing.

I think in that match you were lucky that the enemy didn’t pay much attention towards you so you could just stand next to the fight, pewpew a bit and use search&rescue once in a while. You claim to play support in the first post but I don’t see you supporting much (apart from the rezzes).
Which build are you using btw?

But hats off for posting the video and asking for advice, shows you really want to improve so you are already on the right track.

No thx, if we get the Alpine Borders back I want to still be able to get rid of catapults at hills before the wall goes down.
You are not meant to just sit in ac fire and survive without doing anything (even though with some builds it’s exactly like that). Learn to dodge, learn to use your heal at the right moments, learn to time and blast waterfields and learn to get rid of siege. I’ve watched so many commanders throwing siege when there’s still cannons/mortars/acs up and then wondering why they won’t get into a bloody keep. Well guess what? It’s your fault, not the system.

It was one of the things a friend of mine showed me when he tried to convince me to start playing Guild Wars 2 but when I had finally bought the game it was gone and I’ve been waiting for it to return ever since. If more than 2 minutes AFK in WvW you should be kicked back to LA. simple.

You know that wvw is not only fighting, right? 2 minutes would be very annoying for scouts (especially if we get back the alpine borderlands where you can often scout several gates/walls from one position without having to move). Or when guilds are gathering up on a border. Or when the commander needs a quick break. Hell, 2 minutes wouldn’t even be enough to go to the toilet. Or answer the door/phone. Or grab a drink. Or standing in front of a t3 gate waiting for it to open.
You really want everyone who has to leave their computer for more than TWO minutes to have to queue up again?

Afk people probably aren’t a real problem anyway. It’s either a lot of people running around off tag while the commander is struggeling against blobs or people at crafting stations etc. (but the latter usually won’t bother to get through queues so it’s not really an issue either). The people you think are afk aren’t really afk, they just don’t want to follow the commander for whatever reason. So changing the max idle time wouldn’t help matters, it would just make things more annoying for others.
Trust me, I’ve played WvW for quite some time now and witnessed commanders having less than 20 people on tag while there was a queue on the border and less than 10 people “afk” in spawn + keep combined.

And you did not follow your teammates to kill the lord? Seems like doing so would have won you the game. Intelligence is considered a skill, I believe.

Why would anyone go lord at 75 points? And no, I was defending close, rest of the team was at mid – as was discussed in team chat before – and that one player just kept running lord on his own again and again and again (to give one match as an example).
Yes, intelligence is a skill that you seem to lack or else you wouldn’t try to keep blaming me. But please, keep trolling. I’m out.

Last week I did the stupid mistake of playing a lot of pvp during the morning which often resulted in more than half of my team mates just trying to do their daily (e.g. 3 engis in the team when engi was daily) and completely killed my mmr. As far as I remember I lost like 10 matches in a row, won 2, lost 10 again, won 2 and then lost 15 (!!!) before – after doing some unranked in between and feeling sorry for all the unexperienced players that I continuously killed there – I finally got the 3 wins in a row that I needed to get into ruby (which btw of cause was in the evening hours).
I’m not saying that I’m a good player, probably just average, but if 3 out of 5 people completely ignore team chat, pings and targets and just run to suicide at mid / enemy lord 1 by 1 all the time there’s not much you can do to carry your team.
Btw I’ve often noticed over the last two seasons that I suddendly start losing A LOT more when I’m in the last tier of a division. But never before has it been as bad as those past 3 days.

Blaming a loss based on teammates not pinging the map is some great joke material. I play non-exp warrior and made it to Ruby with ~3 losses by carrying. Won every 1v1 (except couple times to a scrapper) then camped between Home and Mid node. Carried teammates who literally keyboard turned.

If you have the expansion you should setup a Scrapper / Reaper / and a Rev on your character list. Practice in unranked to get used to each class. Queue with a really good friend, swap classes based on comp, and boom you’re Legend (if you’re actually good). Pretty easy strat. Not being able to do this is entirely on your skill level.

Heck even if you’re not skilled just bribe some really good players to carry you. Give some popular Legend player(s) 25g a win. Run a full bunker scrapper and have some them carry you. There’s always a way. This incessant kittening from stupid and/or unskilled players is nothing but humorous

I think you misread the point that you refered to and overlooked all of the others. It’s not about people not pinging the map, it’s about people ignoring pings (sometimes even on purpose) and instead just suiciding over and over again. And it’s not this one thing alone, it’s the combination of all of the above.
Sorry that I don’t want to be carried but rather improve myself. But of cause that makes me unskilled I guess.

Skyhammer Design Discussion

How about just making new maps, or bringing back the old ones. Deathmatch, with maybe diffrent areas to spawn so that you can’t be farmed in the ONE spawn. Escorting an NPC/Goods while the enemy team tries to kill it. I don’t know but more map diversity would be better, not fixing an old map.

The spawn has 2 exits. But yeah, I’d also love to see this map back, maybe even a game mode option for deathmatch and additional maps where it’s just about fighting, not capping points.

I used to hate Skyhammer but after playing Forest and Foefire in ranked all the time I actually enjoy playing Skyhammer in unranked for diversion now. Maybe a damage nerf on the Skyhammer would be good but apart from that it’s fine. You learn to not position yourself on glass panels or somewhere you can be knocked off with time and judging from a lot of perfomances that I see in unranked matches those might actually be valuable lessons for players.
I actually don’t like the idea of the jump pads behaving like bouncing mushrooms because the way they are now you are more flexible. Just because you use a jump pad doesn’t always mean that you want to end up on top, you can also use it to skip aoe etc.

And please do NOT try to solve the issue of night capping by changing how the system works during the night. The issue is gonna solve itself once the population balances out. WvW is a 24/7 gamemode, do not change that.

You can play WvW without HoT just fine, the only disadvantage being that you don’t have as many options to choose from. And maybe some guilds not wanting you to join because they use the elite spec as guild build. Apart from that most classes are still viable without the new specializations. I’ve actually noticed a minor trend of people switching back to old (pre HoT) builds.

So we should just remove Elite specs from WvW or give everyone access to it like in PvP…

Players have always had to level their classes to unlock class abilities. I get that some parts of the system are universal such as WvW levels but why should leveling an elementalist also level every other class on an account?

You can skip the normal leveling with Tomes of Knowledge and Experience Scrolls. For the elite specs there’s no such shortcut. You either have to farm hero points in PvE or rank up in WvW which can both be very time consuming.

Let me guess, you’re from Riverside? The server that used to be known for their insane early morning capping? A server that – about a year ago – used to have a night shift that managed to outplay BB’s mass with strategy? Maybe you guys should just try not to chase away your commanders ;-)

I also used to be one of those people who only played WvW and I was fine with the miserable loot compared to PvE but with HoT a new class + the new specialization came out, the meta has changed a lot and there’s loads of new builds out there – I just can’t afford to try most of them because equipping a character simply for trying is either extremely expensive or even requires farming runes in PvE. Hell, after the changes to ascended armor crafting I can barely even afford to craft me a new ascended armor after I switched my main class for guild raids. It’s ridiculous.

Just give us reward tracks like in sPvP and be done with it. And stop locking away runes behind PvE content by making them account bound.

I just finished this adventure after several attempts. Had some trouble getting gold because the final checkpoint was a bit buggy, it won’t react until several seconds later (or sometimes not at all) unless I cross it right at the bottom.

Got stuck in combat after leaving one of the Exalted Armors in Auric Basin while I was apparently still in combat. Downstat did not resolve the issue and I didn’t want to die so I had to wait until the Octovine event was over to switch to character selection and thereby fix this.

Why should somebody who has a time zone play on a server that is completely different. We all have our own life’s, people work different times, that’s fine. It’s when you get people from the merica or another out of wack time zone play on something like eu for cheap wins.

What about German/French/Spanish people living abroad? Do they have to join international servers because they live in a different time zone? Maybe they enjoy being surrounded by people who speak their mother tongue during their free time.

What about people working different shifts, people who can’t sleep, people who just prefer being awake at night and so on and so on. Do you guys want to punish them all with stupid buffs or even lock them out of the borders simply because you are not online at night?

If it bothers you so much that your server doesn’t have a night-shift, go do something about it instead of trying to mess with other people’s habits. Tag up yourself or go recruit someone to do it for you, it’s not that difficult.

I would love to see an elite trap. Seriously, rangers used to be the only real trappers, now there’s the dragonhunter who can also use traps and they get an elite trap.

Apart from that I have to agree with most of the previous posts that Entangle and Strength of the Pack aren’t actually bad. I personally run Entangle on my condi build. Immobilize on 5 targets, 5 stacks of bleeding, 6s fury and 2 conditions removed on a cooldown of 48 seconds if traited? That’s pretty nice.

Message keeps popping up again since yesterday. Guild chat, guild hall and interface are working fine, however I’m having trouble whispering people from the guild list (right click, whisper and the name doesn’t pop up in the chat until several minutes later) and we were having trouble with our guild missions yesterday (according to our leader they failed right after starting them).

I often have the issue that respawning ranger pets trigger my necro marks/ ranger traps when I’m camping a point in sPvP. I can’t always wait for the ranger to respawn before I lay out new marks/traps because there might be enemies nearby and this can leave me with skills unnecessarily on cooldown for the next encounter so it’s quite annoying.

I honestly don’t think that “night capping” needs to be fixed.

Fixing it doesnt mean stopping people playing or going after players, just balancing the score curves from PPT.

Or at least thats what I think, I know many people have more radical ideas.

Doesn’t really matter which way people want it to be fixed. Servers who have a lot of people during the night will mostly lack people during the day whereas servers who lack people during the night will have more during daytime. I don’t know a single server that has a good zerg 24/7. It’s a system that keeps itself in balance. Yes, it might look very scary when a server ticks with 300+ during the night but if you don’t manage to make up those points during the day then maybe your server generally lacks numbers / effort and just isn’t meant to be at the top.

Btw I think that ops idea is terrible because it takes away server loyality. I don’t want WvW to turn into an Edge of the Mist like system / megaserver. Merge some servers, maybe, but that can’t be the answer to night capping because a lot of server that have high queues during prime time still won’t have people during the night.

Really, people need to stop thinking that everything can or has to be fixed by anet. Anet gave you an awesome platform and it’s the choice of the server communities how they want to use it.

I wouldn’t touch it at all then. Cause the score curves represent when your server is strongest and who is on at the time. Instead, I’d say leave as is and start trying to get your server’s WvW guilds to recruit people that are on in the times when the server isn’t very active. Especially commanders that don’t mind havoc’ing if not zerg’ing when the server is the least active.

I honestly don’t think that “night capping” needs to be fixed. There’s a lot of servers that complain about the issue while they actually have at least a handful of players who are awake during the night and would love to play some WvW during off hours. All you need is to find someone who is willing to tag up some nights in a row, spread the word and soon you’ll find that 5 organized people can already make a huge difference.
You know, Riverside used to be one of those servers that complained a lot about night capping (even thought they had a massive morning shift themselves but that’s a different story). Then a commander spread the word that he would tag up during the night and soon we had a small group of people who would defend their home map almost every night. When that commander realized that he couldn’t really make it past 2 am, he passed on the legacy to me. I was completely new at commanding, I still suck at commanding fights, but I can read a live map and flip stuff for the tick so soon the nightshift became quite successful and with 10-15 people we could even kind of prove ourselves against the BB zerg (keep the “damage” to a minimum) and we had some good times trolling the Elona Nightwatch. At some point we even reached 25 people at 4am. The only problem is that you really need either one person who is very passionate about WvW or several people who can organize that there will always be somebody there so that people don’t immediately leave WvW again. I myself couldn’t really bear the pressure anymore after a couple of months because I was going through some personal stuff at that time but I had managed to give some people the feeling that nights are worth playing and passed on my legacy to someone else.
And no, night capping is not only about k-training empty maps. Most of the times it’s rather about reading the signs where the enemy is, try to sneak some points before the big bad blob comes to wipe you and make it as hard as possible for them to capture your precious objectives (yes, with the autoupgrades and perma waypoints nobody really cares about defending stuff anymore, blabla – just think about the satisfaction of 10 people denying the evil blob to capture a keep). It’s a constant race for ppt and a battle between blob or strategy. For me that’s more exciting than mindless zerging :x

Consider how quartz shot up to 11s a piece after HoT and just recently, in the last 24 hours, fell back to 4s a piece. Nothing changed how easily quartz is acquired—if your contention was correct, that would have to be the case.

My best league experience so far was last week when after an awesome match someone invited the other players. 2 declined, so we queued up with 3 people. After the next match we invited another person. We played a couple of matches, somehow always getting randoms that would always run far and get themselves killed but most of the time the other 4 could make up for that. Unfortunately I couldn’t stay long because I had to attend a lecture, but it was a lot of fun while it lasted.

Tried guild team beforehand, didn’t work out well. The only thing that’s more frustrating than randoms ignoring team chat is guildies sitting on ts and still ignoring basic strategies. Seriously, 3 people fighting one ele next to a point that isn’t even ours for several minutes… facepalm

15 losing streak

Well that explains why I always hit a losing streak all of a sudden when I just need this one pip to progress to the next tier which then suddendly ends again when I’m back where I started… But soon I’ll be in Ruby and won’t progress anymore anyway so yeah…

It is that mentality that is preventing you from winning. Your team mates dont know what to do? Communicate! Give instructions, ping the map, call targets. Explain why specific actions are bad. Do everything you can to win. I mostly solo q-ed to diamond division, so your point? If you are really good, you will progress.

I communicate a lot, ping points, draw arrows when people wander off or we have to rush the lord, write when there’s inc and almost every match someone says at the beginning what to do and still I get a lot of frustrating matchups where people just wander off for no reason, keep fighting off point and unnecessarily feed the enemy points. I might be able to defend a point on my own against most classes or support my team when we go mid but that still won’t win me a match if the rest of the team isn’t doing its job.

I also had to start over because the rift spawned outside of the area. However I didn’t do the fighting alone but together with my bf – well, at least half of it because halfway through he died and respawned at the top but couldn’t get back down to the fight – twice (killed myself once because I didn’t want to do it alone). I tried every corner to get out of combat but even when Mordremorth seemingly lost aggro I was stuck in combat… We didn’t want to start over again so I did the rest alone but it was very frustrating for him to watch only…
