I just had a great match also and my server did win the tier 1 fight. A lot of gold down the drain, a lot of long nights, and for what? To say we won guys, congratulations? To receive nothing in return but a self pat on the back? 2 week matches haven’t even started yet…
I can’t see myself continuing to do this for a full year. Not as a game I take seriously anyway. Especially not as my go to MMO for PvP.
So much hard work and I still feel like it’s launch day.
yes, your reward is the fun you had while playing. and if you think its getting boring, stop playing. then come back when its fresh again. the beauty of no sub fees.
you should play wvw because killing people is fun, not because you want to climb some imaginary progression ladder.
How is it honorable? Maguuma camps out in Obsidium Sanctum EVERY week >_>
you best believe it
decent fight, 2v7 then couple more showed up in the end.
next time dont try to focus the guardian.
Moa is only OP against idiots who stand there and eat up attacks like Pringles. Maybe I’m a super noob, but I like the group invisibility the most. I love having an extra stealth ability, and the cooldown on it isn’t that bad.
you must be very pro if you can dodge the morph in 20 vs 20 or 100 vs 100 in wvw , how ever once you are morphed you are dead, but no you must predict that an lvl 30 mesmer will come and target you, and you become useless for 10 seconds.
MOA is the win button for noobsWho in the world would use Moa over TIME WARP in WvW?
the mesmers who runs in small groups for supply camps
and moa makes the diference in 3 vs 3 / 5 vs 5 etc
both time wrap and mass invis makes a considerably bigger difference in small groups. because both has a 5 player limit, the smaller the fights, the BIGGER the benefit is in a fight.
use time wrap in 5v5, everyone is dead instantly. use mass invis before engaging a 5v5, 2 players downed before invis wears off, and you get a 5v3. there is no way to counter or dodge mass invis or time wrap, except for using their own mass invis or time wrap.
both blocks on the scepter and sword is activitable during its block for blind/daze respectively, more useful than it seems, but still not useful enough.
around 4000 kills, about 1700 badges. i’ve probably gotten the EB chest maybe 30-40 times, so thats about 300 badges from jumping puzzle.
moa morph is mesmers WORST elite ability.
gs is best for ranged shatter. illusion summoning cooldowns are shorter on gs, and gs illusions both spawn on your target rather than near you, this makes shatters more likely to hit.
sure i agree, but what i meant was if you’re going to min-max your effectiveness, which in the case of wvw is damage potential, then you’ll be doing more damage in a pure condition or pure direct damage/shatter build.
in spvp however tankyness and overall lasting power becomes more important, and confusion builds help with that since it stops incoming damage.
if it’s a 1v1, and both of you go down at the same time, then the mesmer wins 100% of the time(exluding warrior skill). mesmers have the highest downed damage of anyone.
and your downed autoattack doesnt consume health, every class automatically bleeds health when they are downed and not reviving themselves or being revived.
even if you get downed first, in a 1v1, you can usually down the other player before they stomp you if you got them low enough before you went down.
the confusion attack crits for over 2k a hit plus confusion, and if they haven’t stomped you in 5 seconds, the rogue crits for over 6k.
the key to beating mesmer in downed state 1v1 is stomp asap.
confusion based builds simply isnt viable in wvw. it’s too unreliable of a damage source. its somewhat viable in spvp because the fights are much smaller in scale, and you’re almost always fighting over a single contested point, in which case you’re presented with the choice of use skills to capture the point and take confusion damage, or back out of the fight until confusion wears off.
not applicable in wvw since you can just run away for a few seconds, then re-enter the fight with no downsides.
thats why you stomp mesmers instead of trying to kill them.
their interrupt is unreliable and easy to counter than other classes.
no repair cost actually, most people do it because theres no repair cost, nothing to do with pride.
1. a 10 minutes 1v1 fight? really dude?? i dont think thats possible even if both players are rocking full sta/tough gear and surv traits.
It’s more than possible. A close friend of mine runs a bunker elementalist and I run a very high damage mesmer build. I can’t kill him and he can’t kill me. We duelled on an empty server for 20 minutes yesterday
possible dps is alot higher in non-spvp scenarios. for example, berserker set has 40% more crit damage. fights also tend to be alot longer in spvp because more people like to run tanky builds for point holding.
where as the opposite is true in wvw, people want the most burst. even fights in wvw NEVER last over a minute or two, maybe 3 tops, even when both sides are built to be tanky(rare). if it does happen, it means the fighters are inexperienced, and aren’t playing to the class’ full potential, for example not weapon swaping, or not timing skills correctly, etc.
Seems the people in the Eternal Battlegrounds jumping puzzle are much friendlier than they were a few days back. I noticed a fairly large number of Maguma, and DH players who didn’t attack on sight there.
i won’t stand for this, need to spend less time doing wvw stuff and more time in puzzle
only way i lose to ele’s is when they manage to burst me down in 2 seconds, when i dont have enough reaction time to blink out or if my utilities are on cooldown.
yes, ele’s are weak against mesmers. however ele’s excel in many other aspects, and mesmers have other weaknesses.
that was the joke
5 illusions? Fact or opinion? I’d say opinion.
opinion if you dont plan on using illusions as a mesmer.
Look at my attached pic
I’d wished I would never hear this from a fellow mesmer.“wtf is time warp”
*time wrap
are you sure you’re picking up all your badges? theres lots of times where i’m chasing people down, and have left a huge trail of loot bags on the ground, and have to run backwards to pick everything up.
i have just over 1500 badges after about 4k kills, if thats any indication of how often badges drop for me.
@Grave
Right, but still, 16% from mantra and like 11% more crit dmg seems too low for such a jump in damages..(2k to 4k)@kuroi
Updated the link with a tinyurl.I’ve been ignoring crit, because I’d need to sacrifice both power and vitality to get precision on gears, in addition to 15 trait points.
4k on spatial surge happens in wvw against upscaled or under geared opponents. and thats pretty much the only time it’ll happen. but it does happen often, even if you’re not running a mantra build.
Wait a minute! I’m a PUG and must say something’s. I’m in a small guild with friends I’ve been gaming with for years (mostly FPS but a handful of us like MMO playing once in awhile) but I’m the only one who prefers PVP over PVE (if I’m gonna PVE ill finish Diablo3) Back on subject. I try to stick with helping a commander. Half the time we get slaughtered because they stretch us too deep into enemy territory wi too few troops, or,they hit a point then peel, off and not announce they are changing places and several of us don’t notice until we get slammed. I tried defending in Eternal yesterday and the small group couldn’t hold off the mag Zerg who kept pushing into our lowland then. I’m only a 40 (played from 15-40 in wv3 only) b I tried to help the team but feeling like cannon fodder all the time does get old especially when it doesn’t seem like the commanders are leading and are doing the very thing you claim the dumb Pugs do. 100g and I can get the blue arrow too, but it doesn’t mean I’m a good tactician.
you and your friends are too low level, and not geared enough to make a difference.
i’m in the same situation as you, i run with 3-4 other people in wvw, we try to avoid the zerg as much as possible and seek out small fights and ninja camps/towers, often winning out numbered 2:1, depending on how bad the enemies are. but we’re max geared and good at pvp.
if you go into wvw under geared and level, expect to act as nothing but meat shields and cannon fodder.
Happened twice again to me last night.
if it happens so frequently, try to get it on video, would be easier to explain if we can see exactly whats happening.
LOL i didnt even see this typo, i meant shatter, but said poop =[
there are ways around it, do a forum search before making a new thread when there has been probably a hundred threads crying about campers already.
infact theres a thread on the first page talking about one out of many ways to get around campers. look with your eyes.
@Kuro how do you have those stats such as 3.5k power/61% crit rate/110 crit dmg? I am full berserker weapon/armor/trinkets and superior runes of divinity doing a 20/20/0/0/30 build and have around 2.2k power/ 49% crit chance/93% crit dmg
I might have gotten attack mixed up with power, my bad. will come back at you for that.
I utilize full set of ruby orbs for my attachments instead of divinity, ever since they nerfed them. Much more efficient imo.3.5k attack is standard, 61% crit if you have 25 stacks of precision from sigils, over 100% crit damage if you have maxed dueling trait line, or food.
Guessing you didn’t read his post he said 3.5k power and he didn’t mention foods
and you didnt read his reply, where he said he meant attack. and i said max dueling trait line, or food, if you only have 20 in dueling with 93%, then max would put you up to 103%
I’ve seen a quickness stomp, and I know the effects of quickness seeing as I play mes. I’ve also seen an insta-stomp. The first you can at least see a hyperactive animation. The second will happen instantaneously, you wont even see the stomp “occur” except for the stomper having stomped at the end of it. I’ve no idea how/why it happens but there is definitely a difference. Something is up.
they are stealthed as they start the stomp, and stealth wears off as it finishes, therefore you only see the finish.
as for the server lag quickness thing, i’ve never seen it, has someoen fraps it yet somewhere? i’d be curious to see it.
i’m starting to notice a lot of new names and a lot of trash talk trying to kill server morale, i certainly hope the maguumas haven’t decided to become “that” server and we are just having bad luck with a few bad apples. This isn’t “Eve” For those who don’t know the eve players mentality http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/116503-Eve-Online-Panel-Encourages-Harassing-Suicidal-Player
. I’ve had a lot of respect for maguuma and enjoyed fighting them.
I will start blocking people so i don’t have to hear their attitudes.
are you saying this in response to the video dragonbrand player posted where he trash talks via the reporting function?
there is currently a glitch that happens after the server lags form large scale fights that will give a passive quickness to players and if they add this to their own quickness everything is instant i know i had this a few times last week befor sandy when there were actualy alot of players form all 3 servers in wv3 and i could dump my entire initiative pool instantly on anything for a few min after server lag
thats not giving you quickness, thats your graphics catching up to the animations that happened during the lag.
not many people run condition builds in wvw, you can often get away with no condition removal if you have good positioning.

berserker strikes multiple times, mouse over the tooltip next time you’re in game. and it pauses for 8 seconds, over 6 if you have phantasmal haste.
You can make the Berserker work beyond a 1200 range. Just put a few basic elements together: (1) range checks along the +Y/-Y axis are broken for some skills, (2) the range check is only applied when you hit the ability button but not on the Berserker once it has been cast and (3) the way that aggro works in this game ensures that certain classes and builds will always be stalked by the Berserker as long as it exist and no matter where that person goes.
theres alot of things wrong with this, first, range in this game is determined radially, meaning it takes into account height. if i stand exactly 1200 range from the base of a keep wall, and i try to spawn berserker to someone standing on top of the keep wall, it will not spawn.
and all illusions mesmers can make has a maximum leash range, similar to ranger pets but much shorter. if the mesmer runs out of this leash range, the illusions disapear, this range is about 1600 or so. so if you can’t be bothered to one shot the berserker chasing you, then run a couple steps away from the mesmer and it’ll despawn.
What about mesmer that don’t use the greatsword. Why should they have to carry one with them incase they need to rain iZerkers on the wall.
Your arguement is invalid.
more like everyone has to carry around multiple weapon sets to best suit the situation they find themselves in, its like the game was designed around that idea.
Thus it’s ok for them to go through walls and attack stuff no one else can?
Gotcha.
yes, that’s exactly the point. this is the same as saying, omfg hunters pet has such long leash range, no other pets have that kind of range, nerf hunters. or omg guardians have so many support skills, nerf nerf. its completely kitten its a game built on how each classes differ, and you’re asking for everything to be the same.
You must spec appropriately and wear the right gear to max a serkers damage. I’m full exotic everything berserker gear, and full Zerker beefiness, it takes me 40ish mins to solo kill a treb, 10-20 minutes to do other siege solo.
lol not sure what kind of berserker gear you’re wearing, but thats flatout wrong. my berserker does a constant 2k damage to arrow carts, and shatters for around 2k as well, it takes 1-2 min tops to kill an arrow cart or a ballista, this is with the illusion only getting 1 spin off then shattering immediately.
regardless of what you saw, you go temporarily invulnerable as you are downed, which is the transition screen as you described, and the fastest stomp is 1.5s with quickness. you probably lagged, or have high ping. if you press your 1.25s cast time fear as soon as you can, that gives you a 0.25s window to interrupt, which is negated if you have over 250 ping.
Hum, mesmers are so strong despite what they say that they are weak.
So I set up a pult in Bravost on the back wall little while ago during a siege and this mesmer kept sending serkers at me non stop. They went through the wall, hit me for 900 × 6 with that whirly ability, and then it explodes. One serker can drops me to 20% with 2.1k toughness in seemingly one move, so no…they don’t just tickle. Anyrate, serker killed pult pretty quick. I then go look for this mesmer and he’s humping the wall sending clones through it at the few defenders there. Pretty cheesy imo.
Kinda amusing to watch them go through walls and attack stuff beyond 1200 m, I admit.
it doesnt work beyond 1200, fact.
quickness halves the time to do anything, so its a 1.5second stomp instead of 3. if you cast your interrupt as soon as you go down, you wont get quickness stomped.
lol nice job, next time i’ll get my necro to put marks EVERYWHERE.
i did like the random kitten talk to me at the end, you’re lucky my team and i had already made our way backwards through the puzzle to clear people out, you see me killing dudes in dark room at 2:00 or so.
but yeah, this is really useful if you’re a mesmer, not so much as any other class, since any competent mesmer would just portal down immediately to get their friends up.
It’s on roughly a 24 hour respawn. The respawn timer does not run while you are still in Obsidian Sanctum or in Mistwrought Vaults, this is to prevent people from camping those areas but people still do so (at their own expense).
You can not receive upgraded equipment, atleast I never have and I have done well over 50 of each.
dont spread misinformation.
the chest spawns on the following conditions:
24hours since you last opened it,
server resets for new build/patch,
new weekly matchup.
the equipment you get is scaled to your level.
the chest WILL RESET in exactly 24 hours, even if you are right next to the chest as it hits the reset time. as in, the chest will close infront of your eyes, and you can open it again.
the timer DOES continue if you are in the puzzles, there is no harm in staying in. the 3 borderlands chests do NOT share a cooldown.
you cannot get superior siege from chests.
you can use any combination of keys from any borderlands to open any borderlands chests.
and honestly, you’ll get more badges if you get some friends and go around killing people, instead of doing these puzzles. the people you kill along the way will net you more badges than the actual chest will.
Again, i just repeat, ele’s rangers and necros all they gotta do is lay their circles up top, its the same principle yet you guys single out mesmers. why not take away all classes ability to ever hit above the gate again to solve all your complaints about beserkers.
There seems to be some confusion. The Meteor Shower AOE does not cover the whole red circle on the ground. Each meteor is a separate projectile and you will only take damage if you get hit by a meteor. You will not get hit if you stand in between meteors – even if you are still inside the red circle. Consequently avoiding damage from Meteor Shower should be straight forward even if you do not doge out of it.
Casting Meteor Shower also requires that I have LOS to the target area. I can not stand in front of a keep wall and cast Meteor Shower inside a keep while a Mesmer can get his Berserker inside the keep. Additionally casting Meteor Shower takes multiple seconds where I have to stand still and where I have to be quite close to the intended target area. The cast animation is also very obvious and combined with the fact that an elementalist has to give up a lot of his defence to gain strong damage output he can be easily killed before he is able to finish the Meteor Shower cast.
A Mesmer Berserker hits for 5k – 6k with a single attack against a light armor wearer while a Meteor Shower hits on the average for around 2k – 3k per meteor. The high damage output of those Berserkers combined with the simple minded aggro mechanics that this game features means that a light armor wearer on siege equipment will either have to accept that he will die fast or he will spend more time killing those Berserkers and healing himself back up rather than actually using the siege equipment. Naturally, somewhere between 1 and 5 seconds after you killed one Berserker another one will be right back and hit you again for 5k – 6k.
At a minimum the Berserker skill needs to be changed so that the LOS check actually works.
if that change is implemented, then mesmers will literally have 0 attacks that can hit people on or inside keeps. is that fair?
the huge spikes come from crit damage. and skills that boost mindwrack damage.
so stop complaining. you’re given options, but are not taking them.
If mesmer can’t actually get to a location themselves, their clones should not be able to get up on top of walls and attack siege. You don’t even have to target stuff for those serker clones to do it either. Just hug the wall, pop it, and then watch as they ginsu siege on the wall.
if thats the case, then NO other classes should be able to attack up walls. meteor doesnt need a target, nor does it require the ele to be able to get to the aoe location themselves.
the illusion is just another aoe effect, except instead of moving out of the way, you have to tickle it, and the aoe ends.
you’d want deceptive evasion instead of desperate decoy in dueling, more clone generation.
and clone death is not the same kittentering, so random condition on clone death conflicts with a shatter oriented build.
i was in the center of Longview using the cata over the wall to hit their siege on the little hill ankittenpt getting mesmer clones spawning on me. was also happening when i was on a ballista in the guild claiming area of LV and people were running right up to the edge, absolutely no vision of me and i was out of range of any aoe, and still clones were spawning on me. i cant shoot back because i cant even see them and theres no way they can see me.
And i know its easy to kill the clones, my point is that even when people arent in LoS they’re getting clones on them. Sure they may have targeted me when i was on the wall before jumping down or when they were running up to the wall to try and hit my ballista, but once they’re in position and cant actually see me they sholdnt be able to spawn clones on people/siege.
here’s an idea, get someone to go kill the mesmer.
you realize you can rebind all the keys right? i have shatter keys bound to c,z,s,v
Ya, if you are playing against NPC’s, these guys aren’t stupid.
Edit: that was maybe 10-20% of the people they had camping in the puzzle too.
Actually, I was around when they were doing that, and that’s most of the people that were camping the puzzle, so saying that was 10-20% is a gross exaggeration. There were maybe three or four more, but the rest were coming in, getting the chest, and leaving.
And to tell the truth, after SBI came in with about 10 people, they managed to destroy two arrow carts, get to the top of the beast room, and take us out to get to the top.
its really not that hard, you just need some good mesmers, and a couple to kill the guys that get pulled down. as for taking the beast room, i find that as long as you have close to even numbers, you can take it, regardless of siege equipment. just have to be coordinated.
as for cripple spam, use aoe condition removal and swiftness buffs. a clever use of blink and portal on your mesmer helps too.
You can’t just pull a formula out of nowhere and call it a “mathematical truth”.
If someone says:
(3 – 1 ) + 2 = 1 + 2You can certainly say, but wait!
3 – 1 = 1 is wrong, it should be 3 – 1 = 2.It doesn’t matter if the first equation is about damage equations, flying pigs or purple chipmunks. The second equation is about none of those things… it is only there to show how subtraction works. Get it?
What you just did was say I’m wrong in equation 2 because it’s not about flying pigs anymore… hence: Whoosh!
you two are arguing about kitten kitten. what you just said makes absolutely no sense, but from your first wall of text, i know what you’re trying to prove.
yes if you include the base stats, the % difference in dps between berserk and rampagers will go down, this should be clear to everyone, as 50/100 is 50% but 50/1000 is 5%.
however the issue is despite the fact that the % difference goes down, the actual difference in dps remains the same. and depending on how many traits and other skills you factor into the equation, will boost condition dps numbers in favor for rampagers, including things like confusion which can’t be accurately modeled.
this brings me to an important point that many people asking for gearing advice don’t understand. the only way for anyone to definitively find out which armor set gives the most dps, you’d have to draw up a complete build, runes, weapon sets, traits, jewels, etc. theres no way you can come to a conclusions without knowing all the variables.
