Even though you forgot to mention Guild Halls and GvG (which is a ton of content, from what we’ve seen from the trailers/interviews), and that WvW maps aren’t just maps but include completely different mechanics to the point where it will make it a completely different game, it was nice of you to make such detailed comparison.

I did mention Guild Halls, under new Guild Halls, also, GvG has not been added or announced as an official PvP mode as of yet. Sure there is the Guild Arena, but that isn’t officially GvG.

Take a look at the comparison I made for the previous expansions and what was included in the base version of the game. In EVERY Guild Wars 1 game that introduced professions, they gave you one character slot per new profession added, so:

Factions: 2 new professions, 2 character slots included with base game
Nightfall: 2 new professions, 2 character slots included with base game
Eye of the North: 0 new professions, no character slot included with the base game.

All very interesting really, why the base game here, with one new profession, doesn’t include a character slot with the base game.

Also they’ve officially announced that there will be more than one zone. I’d recommend changing “1 Zone” to “Unknown Multiple Zones” tbh.

Yes, I assume there will be more than one zone, but this comparison is only based on what has been OFFICIALLY announced. Like I said in the first post, as they reveal more OFFICIAL information, this will get updated

I mean, all I was saying is that technically they really have “officially” announced that there will be multiple zones. They have said it. Officially.

I understand, but “multiple zones” is a vague statement, it could mean 2, it could mean 12, this comparison only posts precise numbers on it, if they were to come out and say, “There will be 6 new zones in this xpac.” Then I will update it to say “6 Zones” but until they are specific with their details, it won’t be added to this comparison.

+1 Thank
you for showing us the facts number don’t lie.

Need to take into account the context.
Gw1 and Gw2 are two very different games.

of course there is someone talking about context, same company same stuff they got lazy and greedy.

You literally cannot ignore context. To do so would be extremely foolish. Taking context into consideration doesn’t release Anet from their need to supply a game that their consumers will want to buy, but it does have an affect on the perspective.

Did the previous GW1 expansions or stand-alones come with content patches too, or is this what came with them out of the box? I don’t recall too many games back then with huge content patches, but I could be mistaken on this. Either way, HoT will have more content released over time, so this chart would have to be updated in kind. We’re also still not sure what goes in that “raid/dungeons” slot. Something will, and I hope they release that information soon, even if it is bare bones for now. Nobody knows at all what to expect with it.

This future content you speak of is the Living World right? As far as I remember, Living World is free as long as you log in while it’s live. So why, if it’s free, am I paying up front for it with the expansion?

I mean I see your logic in this argument, but what is clearly the issue here is they must be hurting for gem sales. So instead of having me paying for future, supposedly free content, make the playerbase happy, and happy players will buy gems, well, as long as you put really neat things in there.

Also, this comparison was done with features AT LAUNCH (sorry didn’t specify earlier) for each expansion. Regardless of future content or not, this comparison is what was given to us at launch of each of these xpacs.

Spent all day yesterday making this up, to compare what we received content wise from ArenaNet in the past with their other expansions to what has been officially announced so far with Heart of Thorns.

I will continue to update this as more info is revealed with Heart of Thorns, but here is what we have so far, enjoy!

Edit: This comparison is based off of features that were DAY 1 features and not added at a later date.

Update 6/20/15: Updated the comparison to include Heroes from Nightfall and Eye of the North, also added The Falls (unconfirmed name) as a zone under HoT since there has been more or less been confirmed from live streams that a zone is in that area.

What is This Weeks News?

For those of us who didn’t get into beta, this has been a dry week, nothing for us?

webtoehobbit.4201

No matter what it is people would be disappointed.

What’s the point of doing anything ever?

They didn’t have to hype it up as something “special” though, they need to start being honest with their playerbase instead of trying to hype up nothing.

"Special" Announcement is here!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: webtoehobbit.4201

webtoehobbit.4201

Either way I don’t see why this announcement displaced a specialization reveal. The WvW team clearly isn’t the same as the class mechanics team, so why didn’t we get a specialization reveal this week?

No, this didn’t “displace” a specialization. If you go back and read the blogs and articles from the chonomancer announcement, they specifically stated three reveals. Which implies they’d have a break for something else before doing more reveals, otherwise there would be no point in calling out that they were doing three.

The imaginary hype train keeps on rollin!

webtoehobbit.4201

I’m just tired of ANet’s imaginary hype. If there is nothing “big” for the following week, then be up front with us. But Rubi said there was something really special. Stop trying to hype something that isn’t there. We are all tired of it, stop treating us like kids.

We took a week off of elite specs for what?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: webtoehobbit.4201

webtoehobbit.4201

Well the longer they prolong the reveal of all elite specs then longer it is till release, so I think that more people are interested in elite specs than WvW at the moment.

webtoehobbit.4201

I am sincerely confused, what exactly is the great news this week? More boring WvW changes? Lions Arch stuff that is gonna happen PRIOR to HoT (so technically not something new about HoT at all)?

Clearly they took a week off cause the other elite specs aren’t ready to show yet, but once again, would’ve been nice if they had just been up front with us about that instead of lying to us.

What'll happen to skill point specific items?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: webtoehobbit.4201

webtoehobbit.4201

Those items are already mats bought with SP currencies; I don’t think they need to change at all. (I am, however, hoping, that there will be new uses for them or alternative versions that stack better.)

But it would have to change, currently there are only 189 skill points available on the map to get (if those don’t change to hero challenges) And it seems like instead of skill point challenges in HoT we get mastery points. The Bloodstone Shard costs 200 skill points. If we aren’t getting skill points leveling up anymore, then how would you be able to purchase that? Unless they lower the cost of these skill point items then the currency used to purchase them would have to be changed.

Please help clarify this ANet?

I’m waiting for Gamescon to see some good reveals. Five years ago (or…was it six) they showed off the Shatterer there. I really hope they make a new reveal there.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up, maybe we’ll get a recap of the Itzel and Nuoch? OOOOOHHHHH!!! Maybe some more in game footage of them!!!

Let’s face it, ANet doesn’t seem to get things just right on their first time around anything. Take Season 1 of the Living World for example, what a train wreck that was…

Now look at Season 2 of the Living World, perfection compared to the failure of Season 1, but ANet likes to test their content on us through live releases. I am convinced that Heart of Thorns will be a massive disappointment to the majority of the community cause this is their first GW2 expansion and well, like I said, they can’t seem to do things right the first time.

Don’t expect much from this expansion, if you are getting your hopes up, I feel sorry for you. Now the next expansion after this one disappoints on a massive scale and the community backlashes against ANet? Yeah, that one will be grand

My hype has turned to dread at this point. I now worry about them rushing to get things done and really messing things up. Funny thing is, I think it was Angry Joe, with his interview with Colin. Colin was asked how long this has been in development or something like that and Colin just dodged around the real answer. I think this is gonna be a Kingdom Hearts 3 thing, cept I wish the devs would just come out and admit that they announced too early if there are complications. It’s only fair to us, otherwise we stew and get angry grabs pitchfork

If we don’t get at least the entire Maguuma jungle released in this expansion, I will be angry. Cause after we kill Mordy, what reason will we have to revisit the jungle? And more than anything, I would like to see Tyria be fully explorable in time, unlike GW1 (meaning the entire map of Tyria is someday uncovered, and no blurry areas that we can’t explore)

Anyone Else Worried....

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: webtoehobbit.4201

webtoehobbit.4201

So I am watching AngryJoe’s interview with Colin, and it just kinda made my heart sink, cause I’m pretty worried that we will only get like 3 zones with this expansion (I am throwing the number 3 out there, I know there’s nothing suggesting more or less at the moment) cause when AngryJoe asked Colin, “Hey, how big is this expansion going to be?” referring to zones and such, Colin just danced around the question and answered with, “Well, features are the biggest part of this expansion.”

So are we getting a feature pack? Or an expansion? Idk, it just worries me that everytime the amount of zones are brought up, they just flit around the answer by saying something safe like, “We’re more about content dense zones than a lot of zones.” or what Colin said, “Well, the features are the biggest part.”

Now I’m not saying I don’t love absolutely everything I’ve seen with this expansion, but I love Tyria, as I think all of you do, and it’s not that I want a TON of new zones, but I want to explore as much as I possibly can of this beautiful world, and if we’re only gonna get 3 maybe 4 new zones with this expansion, well, I think it’s a bit of a travesty.

So am I the only one worried about this? Or is this completely unfounded?

The Favored Few

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

webtoehobbit.4201

Here’s some food for thought:

Once upon a time, Bioware, with their game The Old Republic, had a press conference where the devs answered questions about future content and got suggestions from their community, how did they do this? They invited the guild leader of every guild in the game to this conference and then they live streamed the entire event to the community, where the community could submit questions live and have them answered by the devs.

This, is what I guess I was trying to have come across in my initial post. This is what I would rather see Anet do instead of doling it out to a special few people.

The Favored Few

webtoehobbit.4201

Ok, so I am most likely in the minority with this train of thought, but it kind of frustrates me that a few people in this community of ours get special treatment, let me explain.

A favored few youtubers have been getting all sorts of special treatment from Anet, like being privy to knowledge of future events that are going to happen, that they can’t talk about until it’s officially announced, but they get to know about it anyways, and then get invited to secret press conferences and given information that the rest of us can’t know about yet?

I am just as dedicated a player to this game as any other, but I don’t make Youtube videos, so I, as well as many others are not among these “privileged” few. The point I am trying to make is if you have something to say Anet, then SAY it, and don’t say it to a favored few among the community and then have them regurgitate it to us…

Thing is, I was at LEAST expecting a release date on this, you know, since they don’t speculate about future content, and only talk about it when it’s ready. But we didn’t get that, and since we didn’t get that I’d at least like to have some hope that we’re not just supposed to grind Silverwastes for the forseeable future.

I am so excited about the expansion, but then the hype died down now that I realize there is going to be nothing to hold us over until it’s TBD release… I’m a little let down to be honest.

Looking For Guild

in Looking for...

Posted by: webtoehobbit.4201

webtoehobbit.4201

I am currently looking for a guild to call home, I am on the Crystal Desert server but I rarely WvW so it doesn’t matter to me which server my guild is mainly based on. I have been playing the game since head start and am pretty experienced when it comes to all the aspects of PvE. I haven’t really touched WvW at all, except to complete my world exploration, have dabbled in SPvP a little bit, but the whole PvP isn’t really my thing to be honest.

So what I’m looking for in a guild:
- Must have a way of voice communication, preferrably Teamspeak or Ventrilo
- Active playerbase, not necessarily a large amount of members
- 100% rep requirement
- A guild that mainly focuses on PvE, specifically Dungeons, Fractals and Living World Achievements
- A semi-casual/semi-serious feel to the guild, there is a time to be serious and there is a time to have random dance parties

So that’s kinda what I’m looking for in a nutshell. For the last couple of years I have been jumping from guild to guild and haven’t really found what I’m looking for yet. Usually I will just accept any invite sent my way and “try” the guild out, but I’m going to try a different approach this time, going to really screen for the right guild :-)

I hope to hear back from you guys with some guilds that fit what I’m looking for, and really looking forward to finding that guild that I can call family :-)

I just had to come on here and post this! Let me explain….

So recently I resubbed to SWTOR and have been having a blast with it (I really want to get to the Revan stuff, looks pretty neat) Despite the fun I have been having with the game, there has also been this terrible combat lag, where when I click a skill, there’s this .5 second delay or more before the skill is actually activated, which is extremely annoying. Now I didn’t know if this was some big issue, so I mentioned in map chat how this has been happening to me and how it’s been annoying.

I was promptly verbally assaulted by 10 people in map chat saying how I should stop whining, or how I should go play WoW, and the list goes on. When I tried to respond to these people saying how I resubbed to this game cause I LIKE it, then they proceeded to say how I was kitten and nasty stuff like that, it was really upsetting to me because up until that point, I had been really enjoying my experience with the game again.

Why am I telling you all this story? Because this terrible experience reminded me of how AMAZING the Guild Wars 2 community is and how I have never EVER had an experience like I just did in SWTOR in GW2. This game truly spoils me with all the amazing people that are part of it, who play everyday and make this game something truly special, so thanks everyone!

/Subliminal message or madness mantra, it’s up to you to decide/

I fully believe there is going to be an expansion and here’s why…

If Episode 8 is the final episode in Season 2 then all these plot arcs that we had opened this season will probably not be resolved by the end of the season, but rather closed up in a possible future expansion.

Think about it, currently, if you do not log into the game when a Living World chapter is live then you have to pay for it. I always thought this was a bit strange since most people excited about Season 2 would most likely be able to log in for at least a minute every two weeks to just unlock it, so why the charge per episode? They couldn’t possibly be making much money off of this at this current time.

I believe that they know an expansion is coming and that the story of the expansion will tie in heavily with what happened in Season 2 so when a flood of players who come back after a year+ of not playing, they’ll want to, if not need to, play Season 2 to know what’s going on in the story of the expansion, and there my friends is where ANet makes bank off of the gem cost of Living World episodes.

I ask this because with the release of the last two Living World chapters I actually tuned in as it was Live! But I really found myself uninterested…. First off, they spend a good amount of time at the start of everything showing off fan art, which is great, much love to the players that do that it is really awesome! But when I tune into the show I have Living World on the mind and the lengthy showcase of art just seems to be an annoyance, like they’re saying, "Oh you want Living World talk? Hold up, we’re gonna keep you dangling for a few more minutes. I really feel that the fan art should be showcased at the end, that way if you really want to tune in for the art, you can stay till the end, but for me at least, I’d like to get to the meat and potatoes faster.

Which kind of brings me to my next thing, there really isn’t much meat and potatoes to anything that is talked about, it’s really just a bunch of fluff I guess is as best as I could describe it. Lots of talk but not much to what they’re saying, it’s like watching friends having a fun inside convo with each other rather than being informative. I would say that Woodenpotatoes vids are much more enthralling and informative than any Points of Interest episode I have seen.

So, this thread isn’t really to complain per se, I just wonder if I’m alone on these thoughts? Or not? If you agree, what would you like to see the Points of Interest episodes change about their format?

I think where the brunt of the frustration on this is coming from is that we have had all this momentum leading up to episode 8 only for it to be put on hold for a month… We’re tired of the cliffhangers and then the only reward we have is to have the story held off again?

Look, we all get it, the holidays are busy, blah blah blah. But it comes down to this, Had there been a month shorter break between the first four episodes and the last four episodes of Season 2, then Episode 8 would’ve been released before Wintersday and there wouldn’t need to have been this break for one more episode…

To say that you guys have this master schedule, to me, means that you intentionally planned on holding back Episode 8 months and months in advance and that is extremely frustrating that you intentionally had two cliffhangers episode after episode with no real progress of storytelling only to intentionally keep us on hold.

We are NOT impressed.

Once again, our frustration is not at Wintersday, but at the grand master schedule you guys have that intentionally put the last episode of Season 2 on hold for a month.

Well, the devs read these boards, why not let a dev clear this up? Oh ANet devs, what be the verdict on this?

Because if they do people will whine about them only ever posting in irrelevant threads instead of posting in those threads that have “legit” questions? Like every other time they have posted in threads like these.

There is nothing that suggest we will not get the next living story chapter on the 16th. If we would not get it by then the devs would already have told us so. At least if we look at the past (which people love to reference when they complain).

See, this is not how logical people think, you can’t just assume that something will happen until it’s proven otherwise. That’s like saying, well they haven’t said that precursor crafting WON’T be in the Dec 16th update, so until we hear otherwise, it will definitely be in that patch.

If we operated by that kind of logic then we’d have to assume that unicorns, bigfoot, loch ness monster and all of those were fact until otherwise proven not to exist.

Lazaar, I dont believe it launched at the same time, I was around when it all happened. But even if it did, Wintersday is an entire other beast, ANet takes a break for the holidays.

Exactly, they (and basically every one else in this line of business) takes a break during the holidays. And as such it is very unlikely that they would not release the finale of season 2 BEFORE that.
It would make very little sense to have a break and then have just one more episode and then another break after all.

And if it was indeed going on a break I am rather sure we would have heard by now.

Well, the devs read these boards, why not let a dev clear this up? Oh ANet devs, what be the verdict on this?
