There are a few mimics running amok at the back of the black lion weapon area that’s sealed off…
Where is the Tempest teaser trailer? Seems strange that the others all got one but Tempest doesn’t? Is it still unfinished to show? What’s up?
Thanks you for the pre purchase :-D
I believe that Bog Otter on one of his vids suggested an in game cutscene that explains what happens in Season 1 of the Living World. You know, an introduction of all of the characters and whatnot, so people don’t feel completely lost until you guys get the time you need to re implement it into the game as replayable content.
Something so that new players won’t feel so lost. I know if I was a new player I would probably not have any interest in HoT knowing I have missed out on so much story content and not wanting to go to great lengths to research it all online.
Just a thought, I think that would be very doable in the short term.
I have started playing FFXIV, gotta say, quite good
I hope ANet can win back their playerbase, cause if they don’t have something big up their sleeve (challenging group content) then they won’t win people back from other games.
ANet already got your money with the prepurchase, they have little to no incentive to show you anything more at any kind of a good pace. Now if you had thought it through, realized that “Hey, I’m gonna wait to see what this is all about” before throwing money in ANet’s faces maybe they’d wanna show you more to entice you to buy it.
Ignorance, thanks for ruining this :-)
Hate to say it, but I told you so…
So maybe 10% of the player population gets into a stress test for WvW the rest of us just wait for more nothing (maybe ANet will prove me wrong this week but probably not)
200+ employees at ANet and wow, this stress must be something huge cause they are too busy to announce anything worthwhile this week (second week now with no big announcement)
Good luck ANet, this ship is sinking fast.

They had the EXACT same system before launch.
It ended up being a couple of stress tests, some closed beta tests and THREE Beta Weekend Events. I would say that it is somewhat likely that we will have a similar system now.
You can’t say anything, that’s making a huge ASSUMPTION which doesn’t exactly corrrelate to FACT.
Illogical logic is illogical.
So this weeks announcement was that next week will be the WvW stress test, which means that next week there will be no new announcement cause….. stress test……
Just like with the beta week right?
:’-(
Maybe I should try FFXIV, this game has just been getting me down lately, it can’t be healthy.
That’s exactly what I did and I ended up logging into gw2 everyday anyway and only made it to lvl 34 in ff14
Oh, I log in everyday to GW2 as well, for one minute to get my daily chest, then I log out. So what do I have to lose?

But it’s a “stress test” not like it’s a “beta” or anything…..
Here’s my prediction, they will have dozens of “stress tests” and those of you who threw money at ANet won’t get invited cause it’s not technically a “beta” LOL in fact they will probably have one “beta” before the game launches!
Once they have your money, what incentive do they have to continue to please you?
I encourage you all not to be disheartened by the lack of content releases. When HoT was planned, Arena Net released a projected profit increase that fell in line with a pre-purchase/release purchase of HoT. That profit projection was slated for the third quarter of business sales. The third quarter is the months of July, August, and September. I know that Anet still has a lot to reveal but have resolve that Anet will deliver of HoT.
We just have to support Anet in this time and be surprised when it does get released. If you need a break for GW2, Anet is not holding a gun to your head. Just be sure to come back and enjoy the new content.
But that’s just the thing, if I find another MMO to play and get really hooked on that, I won’t have much of a care at all for when HoT releases. This isn’t some great expansion that is going to bring people in by the dozens. If there is something better that people find to play in the meantime and then they like that better, why come back to GW2?
Support them? They are not a victim in this situation and I have so many fears about HoT flopping big time, it’s really a shame.

LMAO they could technically just have lots of “stress tests” and just have one actual “beta” and just give you access to that one cause it’s the only technical “beta” hahahahaha

I mean, yeah, if you threw a minimum of $50 towards a game you know relatively nothing about so far, you should be invited to the smallest of stress tests, it’s the least they can do. But you won’t get that kind of treatment, cause you are just a “$” and if they already have your money, what incentive do they have to please you?
Thats what I figure until they announce the first beta weekend we are well over 3 months until release happens. Heck they are just now getting around to a closed WvW beta.
I fully believe that they throw out “stress tests” (not even betas) whenever they need to kill time. I can guarantee next week will be another week with no new info, why? Cause man oh man, it is gonna take the entire team to handle this “stress test” which not everyone will be able to play, but lets alienate everyone with no new info ;-)
They clearly have nothing new to show and it alarms me. This game, I feel, is far from being done, just makes me sad, I can’t continue to let myself hold out hope for this game anymore. Currently looking at other MMO’s I can sink my time into.

Probably not DBZ cause this is a “stress test” not a “beta” it’s all in the wording.

Maybe I should try FFXIV, this game has just been getting me down lately, it can’t be healthy.
I understand, but this is not the Assassin’s Creed series. I like to have conclusions to the main story arch before we move onto the next one. There is SO much story in the world of Tyria I don’t want to spend two years on that one dragon story when there are many other stories to tell. Besides, name an expansion to your knowledge, where the teased big baddie isn’t the final boss… Mordremoth will be the final boss, or else we will figure out that we shouldn’t kill him and find a way to put him back to sleep, either way, the story will be concluded.
It kinda makes me lose hope in this community that so many of you are ok with idea of not killing Mordremoth, or at least concluding the Mordremoth story arch in HoT…. :’-(
Living World is supposed to span the gap between expansions, that is pretty much what the devs have said, did ANY of Living World Season’s 1 or 2 have to do with Zhaitan? No. It was all a lead up to the reveal of Mordremoth and the main conflict that we will be facing in the expansion.
We will be killing Mordremoth in the expansion, no doubt about it. If not, then ANet will be facing more rage than we saw with the pre purchase controversy.
Why do you all think that Living World Season 3 is going to lead up to the Mordremoth fight? My personal theory is that Season 3 will be about the aftermath of the death of Mordremoth. Will the pact survive this expansion? If not, we have gathered the leaders of the world together, what will this new force be called? Will WE be the commander of it?
One of my personal theories about Glint’s egg is that they’re gonna pull a Grey Warden kinda thing with it like we need the egg to be in the proximity of Mordremoth when we kill him so that the magic that is released from his death is able to be absorbed by the egg, and then maybe at the end of the HoT the egg hatches and we have a dragon that has this great magic all up in it.
If that happens, couldn’t Season 3 be about what do we do with Glint’s offspring? The Sylvari are dragon minions, and after killing Mordremoth there could be splinter groups of Sylvari that still have a loyalty to Mordremoth and want revenge for his death and vow to steal the hatchling of Glint to turn it to their will?
The possibilities are there for MANY stories for Season 3.
Killing Mordremoth IN Season 3 will be a terrible mistake if that’s the path they have decided to go down.
So I was curious and sifted through all my old “Thank You” emails from ANet for when I have bought gems in the past. A lot of people lately have been saying, “We don’t have to pay a monthly fee so what do you expect?” in regards to the new expansion and I thought I’d actually look up what I have invested in this company. So here goes:
Since launch, I have spent $1,375 in gems in Guild Wars 2. People like to bring up the monthly subscription fee as an argument, so lets say I had a sub to another MMO and paid $15.00 a month. With the amount I have spent on GW2 I have paid for 7.6 years of a subscription to any other monthly paid MMO.
Do I believe that the content we have gotten is worth 7.6 years worth of a sub to another MMO? No, unfortunately, which probably explains why I have really throttled down the gem purchases recently.
So I’m curious, these are just my numbers, but how much have you invested into this game? How many years of any other MMO sub have you payed for in GW2 alone and do you think that the amount of content you have gotten is worth it?
I am confused and maybe I was misinformed, but with excess hero points weren’t we able to spend them on things? I have 200 extra hero points after fully unlocking everything on my Mesmer, but what do I do with the excess? Have I missed something here? Or do they just sit there as a number that I can’t do anything with?
And it will But first Jurassic World! Be back later tonight with an updated version!
OK, so this is completely an issue steeped in my OCD but the one thing I LOVE in GW2 over GW1 is that the maps touch, leaving relatively very little of the map that is explorable as blurry and unreachable. In GW1, while the maps were gorgeous in their own right, there was so much blur on the map that I could never get to and it drove my OCD crazy.
My one and only fear for HoT is that if the entire Maguuma Wastes and Maguuma Jungle isn’t made more or less fully explorable (a.k.a. very few blurry unreachable spots) I will be a truly sad OCD ridden panda :’-(
I know HoT isn’t gonna be zone heavy, but heck even if we only get like 5 or 6 zones, and those zones span the entirety of the Wastes AND Jungle then I will be a happy camper.
Am I the only one who thinks this way with new maps?
Googly Eyes!!! Thank you man, this what we needed!
I do believe that googly eyes fix EVERYTHING!
I would preorder in a heartbeat, put down $10 and then see what else there is to come. But prepurchase? Seems like another shady system put into place by gaming companies, like day one dlc…
I crack myself up, got this as my desktop background, he’s so cute hahaha
HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

If you think about it, many of us spend a good $50 heck, even $60 on a new game. Take Fallout 4 for example. If they had announced Fallout 4 a day before it released, no one would need to know ANY details about the game because players know Bethesda and they know that they truly deliver on their games. Players trust Bethesda which in turn makes them LOTS of money.
Maybe the real issue here in our community, isn’t that the price is “too high” or that vets aren’t getting enough freebies. Maybe it’s all a matter of a degraded trust between us, the playerbase and ANet over the last couple years.
Truly this isn’t the first time the community has been toxic, look back at the gem to gold conversion back last summer. The rage was very toxic then and it all came down to us being angry over communication issues. Shortly after that degradation of trust we had the game developers conference where a couple of devs said that there weren’t any current plans for SAB at this time. The community once again absolutely boiled over in toxic hate and rage, due solely, in my opinion, to a further eroding trust between silent devs and a playerbase that was tired of being kept in the dark.
Now fast forward to now. We have been conditioned to fall into a hype cycle where things are overhyped and underdelivered. Can anyone really blame the state of the community? Is anyone really surprised? If you look at the history between ANet and us, the players, the trust has been eroding for quite some time. I think this may finally have been the straw that broke the camels back….
I hate to see our community the way it is, but ANet’s silence doesn’t help anything either. The longer they prolong a response to very valid anger and rage, the harder it will be to build that trust again with the devs.
So I believe that this isn’t a price issue, it’s an issue of trust between the community and ANet. I really hope that trust can be restored, cause that is what will keep this game successful and profitable.
I fully get that NCSoft is behind the pricing most likely, but if ANet knew that they were gonna slap the $50 price tag on it, then ANet should’ve developed $50 worth of content for the game, and as many of us have seen so far, it doesn’t look like that.
What this does look like, is a last minute plan to make an xpac and now it is probably being rushed to completion. It all looks a bit desperate if you ask me.
HoT could very well be worth $50 and we just haven’t seen anything yet. However, knowing ANet’s track record for the last few years, much is overhyped and much is underdelivered. They expect the community to trust them that we will be getting $50 worth of content? I don’t blame the community at all for how it is handling this, they are a product of a trust that has been degrading for the last couple years between the devs and their playerbase.
There is a disconnect, and their silence on this issue is only making things worse. They need to completely change their communication policy if there is any hope on salvaging what is left of this now toxic community. It’s sad, to see the community in it’s current state, but I saw it coming, I think we just got that straw that broke the camels back…
Just updated the comparison to include Heroes from Nightfall and Eye of the North. Also added in The Falls (name unconfirmed) to HoT as there has been more or less confirmation from the livestreams that there is a zone in that area.
Reading a couple of responses that said guild halls should be included as zones. I won’t be listing them under zones because if I did I would have to do that as well for all of the GW1 xpacs, and I would run out of room.
The changes that happened pre Heart of Thorns is not what we are paying for in Heart of Thorns, adding that info would be irrelevant for this comparison.
I could but the issue here is related to expansions, maybe at a later time I could do a comparison of base games, but that isn’t very relevant now I don’t think
And technically, Living World isn’t free anymore to new players, so wouldn’t really sound favorable to show that.
This is a comparison of what was available at launch of expansions, not quality of life updates or living world, those have nothing to do with the expansion.
Not to mention that GW1 maps were very simple to do,they only had 1 possible path most of the time and like 70% of the map was made with inaccessible places (mountains etc)
Did you even play GW1? Or… are you sure you’re not confusing GW1 with FFXIII, ‘cause it sure looks like that given that statment
Not that GW2’s landscapes don’t have mountains or other places you kinda need to go around much.
Also, the fact that you can jump over a rock doesn’t make the map that much different, especially with really wide spaces. Add to that that you don’t have to worry about aggroing things at all, ’cause most of the mobs are either dumb to smell you passing by or just to far apart.
303 quests in GW2 circling around dancing for cows and feeding some birds between the usual fetch or kill quests. Come to think of it, I believe GW had more than 303 quests in any of its continents. As for the events, yes, they make the places more dynamic. At launch, at first visit, or when needing some collection item (which you need to wait for a game patch to get). So, from this point of view, the dynamic events not connected to anything worthwhile are less of a reason to revisit a map than Vanquisher title was in GW1.
Completely agree, yes GW2 maps may feel more dynamic fron the change of how questing is done, but the zones in GW1 almost felt bigger than the size of them in GW2. For example, the current zone Gendarran Fields, in GW2 the settlements are awfly close and cam be traversed rather quickly between them. But in GW1, I remember it took a bit longer to travel between the settlements outside of Lions Arch.
Also, has it been officially announced that Verdant Brink HAS 3 biomes, some maps will, sure, but all of them? And there is no confirmation that the other 2 biomes will be the same size as the level we’ve been shown. Maybe there will be a couple points where we can traverse the treetops in the top most bioime, and maybe there will be some alcoves where we can traverse the bottom most biome, but there has been no confirmation on the size of the other biomes.
To assume they are going to have the same amount of explorable areas in all 3 biomes is a rather unintelligent assumption until it is 100% confirmed. But due to the silence on actual size of maps or biomes, I’d say be worried.
I feel like the reason they are not telling us how many maps are in the game is because if they revealed that to us, a lot less people would pre-purchase HoT. They know how to play the cards as long as it gets them revenue, even if that means deceiving the playerbase…
cough cough Cash grabs from new players that bought the game at full price a week prior to the HoT prepurchase cough cough
GW2 actually has more than over 300+ employees as of last year.
Dev Confirmation: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/What-to-buy-with-800-gems/first#post1218058
You’d think we’d be getting much more content because they have much more man power, that doesn’t seem to the case though…
People will say that GW2 requires more time to develop for than GW1 because of things like higher res models, more complex systems, etc. However that is not an excuse as development tools have also become more efficient over the past years (not to mention the increase of staff).
While we don’t fully know all the offerings of GW2:HoT yet, we should not set our expectations low considering the amount of people working on it and the time that they’ve had.
Thanks for the clarification on the number of employees.
And that’s the thing though, we don’t know how long they’ve been working on this game. I don’t think it’s been that long since during an interview with I think MattVisual during the time they were flown out to ANet to demo HoT Colin was asked how long they have been working on this, and he dodged the question by giving some vague answer like, “We’ve been working on some story elements for quite a while.”
I have always wanted to know when exactly the development on this game started.
I just wanted to add a little side note, when making this I did leave the tiny explorable zones out of the GW1 expansions. Technically there are more explorable zones per xpac, but I left them out since there wasn’t much too them, just left the big substantial zones in.
Nice graph, I will be keeping that one
Thank you very much And I am not trying to incite more rage with this graph, I just think that it’s smart for us consumers to know the facts. This comparison will be updated regularly as more info for HoT is announced.
Your comparison is not very good.
Eye of the North is the only other expansion and as such the only other game you can fairly compare it to.
Several of the HoT “features” are to be included in the base game and as such not part of the expansion. For example WvW Borderland, PvP Stronghold etc…
I disagree because if you look at the amount of staff they had back in Factions, sure it wasn’t an official “expansion” it was actually MORE than that, it was a standalone campaign and they did it with roughtly 150 employees. Then 6 months later they released Nightfall, another huge standalone campaign with once again, 150ish employees.
Now fast forward to Guild Wars 2 and they have over 250 employees and what do they have to show for it? I think it’s a valid question and I think this comparison is fair.
webtoehobbit I think Arenanet made a mistake on throwing free content to GW2 base game for free (including Living World). It was really awesome of them, especially because they don’t have a subscription based system but now it’s bitting them in the butt.
Because of it, now everyone thinks that way: what am I paying for? And I’m afraid you’re technically correct on that one. If one buys a product, then the price tag on that product should be about what that product has to offer.
But everyone knows that GW2 is not like this.
If you look at the new stronghold map, the WvW maps, the Guild Halls (that will probably be base game too): all of those features are all on the pretext of HoT (they were advertised as such). But these features took time from the developers to put together/work on and they’re for free, forthe reasons I mentioned above. This is what’s making players say that there’s no content in HoT. In reality there is a ton of content, but technically there is very little.
This might be just me, but because of all this “free” content, I’m more than happy to pay that amount of money for the expansion.
Up until 3 months ago, I spent $20 a month regularly real life money on gems because I supported what ANet was doing. But what I’ve seen lately I have decided that my investment of $20 a month towards Anet is going to who knows what since they have relatively little to show for their xpac as of yet.
Please don’t assume that all of us are just leeching off the game and never contribute to the game with real money. The gem store was very successful for them in the past, but a lot of the playerbase is angry/off put by ANet lately and I don’t blame them for not investing money into a game when we don’t know what we’re getting back on that investment.
OP, you forget that they also do not have a monthly sub for playing this game. the very least you can do is spend an extra $10 to buy a character slot(because they arent asking for a required $180 every year). seriously, you are asking for way too much for a game with no monthly fee.
Guild Wars 1 had no monthly sub fee AND not a fraction of the gem store that we have today and they still gave us 2 characters slots with each xpac…. Your argument is invalid
“Officialy GvG” I think what you have in mind is the GW1 GvG system.
GW2 is a completely different game, and this will be our Guild VS Guild system. There’s probably more to it than an arena to brawl (as they’ve mentioned in the presentations) and again, this will be GW2 GvG: it will be as real as GvG GW2 can be. Comparing it to GW1 or to other games GvG is fine, but this is just as “real” as it will be.
Making a house out of pebbles and calling it a Lego set, does not indeed make it a Lego set. There have already been makeshift ways of GvG’ing in GW2, and if the Guild Halls make it easier to makeshift GvG then great, but it’s not an actual feature of HoT and therefore won’t be listed in the comparison until it is announced as a feature.
You’re missing the point obastacle. These features you’ve mentioned were advertised in the pretext of the HoT expansion (check the first trailer).
Why do you think they decided to make WvW maps included in the base game? I’ll tell you what I think: so that we didn’t have half of the population stuck in old maps and the other half in the new maps (for example), and probably because of technical complications that would arise from this.
It’s probably the same with the rest of the content they’re putting on the base game. Don’t forget that these features are actually HoT features/content.
Yes but if they’re being added to the base game without having to pay extra for it, then we the playerbase need to be asking, “What ARE we paying for?” If we are paying $50 for exclusive HoT features, then there better be a lot of them, or why pay more when I can just enjoy these new feature for free with the base game?
