GW1 = more build diversity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: weskay.9217

weskay.9217

I didn’t read through many of the replies, just the first few so excuse me if I am echoing someone. This is one major thing I miss about GW1; the ability to make hundreds (probably even thousands) of different builds. Sure, many won’t be as efficient but part of the fun for me was figuring out what did and what did not work.

GW2 has one build that nearly everyone seems to care about. Berserker this, berserker that! There are several different builds set ups still out there that I’m sure the game intended us to use. I’ve tried berserker and yes, it is efficient, but personally, I only find it efficient if the entire party has berserker on. If a group has players that are not using it, the people using the berserker builds then turn out to be the hindrance of the team since they cannot stay alive. I don’t want this to turn into a berserker discussion thread as I am sure there are tons out there.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I hope creating builds becomes more elaborate in the future. I also hope that in doing so, it will make people less one-dimensional with berserker builds and can explore with new builds and set-ups. Heck, nerf the hell out of berserker builds so people can then explore all of the different set-ups this game currently has to offer. You’d be surprised what you can find!

You are able to access the wood nodes in the sylvari home instance but it is inconvenient and seemingly misplaced. You have to go outside of the home and around to the back while hugging the walls so it doesn’t automatically boot you out from straying too far into the striped (no-walk) zones.

To those that disagree with my original post, like someone else mentioned above, it does feel very Saturday-morning-cartoon-like. Obviously, everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I just feel a bit confused with the story vs. the emotion/tone. The story itself is quite dark but the tone that comes with it just doesn’t quite suit it. Simply put, it’s like I am watching a horror or thriller movie only to be dubbed with the Saturday morning cartoon voice over.

LS Too Comedic? [Suggestion?]

in Living World

weskay.9217

I think our definitions of dark and comedic might differ. Sure, the episode was darker than the last but Taimi is still running around giggling as if she’s an eight-year old in Disneyland. I just don’t think it suits the storyline.

Also, yes, humor is one way to brighten up a problem but I think there’s a time and place for it. It just seems like every quest within the episode had some sort of comedic vibe to it. A day in-game is like 5 minutes real-time too. All in all, it’s just not my cup of tea and takes away from the story.

LS Too Comedic? [Suggestion?]

in Living World

weskay.9217

Some minor spoilers ahead. Continue are your own discretion.

I want to keep this as brief as possible. This isn’t a major concern, maybe more of a suggestion if you can call it that. I’ve played through the first two episodes of the Living Story and so far it’s really good. Definitely a step forward from the Living Story season one (mainly due to instanced story quests; I like that). My concern is the tone that this living story brings. We’re up against another major threat in Tyria. Vines having surfaced from the ground, essentially “eating” waypoints. This threat then destroying settlements and killing people. If I were in the fictional land of Tyria, I’d say this is a major issue. That said, I feel like the current tone of this Living Story acts as if it’s some sort of joke. The primary “issue” from my perspective rests with Taimi. She is too happy-go-lucky with the way things are acting and it sets a completely different mood than what I would believe the setting to be. Rather than our heroes being a bit scared or brave or determined to vanquish this threat, I feel like our heroes are making this threat out to be a joke. I feel like our heroes are not actually determined to kill this threat but instead would much rather sit around a campfire with a keg of ale singing Kumbaya. (Spoiler here) So Marjory’s sister dies, lets go into a cave and start giggling and laughing! That doesn’t seem very realistic.

Although the Living Story season one was not favored by a lot of people including myself, I feel like the overall mood was a lot better than what we have been giving thus far for season two with the exception of Kasmeer’s hiccuping at the end of the Scarlet fight (and even that received some critical reception). I’m sure it is too late to suggest a change as I’d assume that most of the dialogue and voice acting is finished but should it not be, consider this a personal suggestion; a suggestion to make the mood reflect what is actually happening in the world. Change up Taimi to be less (sorry Taimi fans) annoying, cheerful and full of humor to something that also reflects what the mood should be.

I don’t know how many others will agree with me but I am sure there are a few (maybe a lot, who knows).

Thanks for reading.

Did Megaservers ruin Events?

I’ve found myself to be doing world bosses and other events much less now due to the changes. World bosses are just too cluttered and my FPS takes a nose-dive during them. Events like Gates of Arah, CoF dungeon opener, etc. are cluttered now too that getting a hit on even one target proves to be quite a challenge. Unfortunately, I don’t see them changing anything at this point despite how many problems the April patch created. Anet seems content on its release since we have heard absolutely nothing relevant for three months.

Paying for past content?

in Living World

Posted by: weskay.9217

weskay.9217

Why are you assuming that they won’t release the seasons as packs for a lower price?
It is very unlikely that they will just give the ability to buy every piece one by one without a package-price.

As for prices, the next WoW expansion (we can’t really count Pandaria, seeing as it has been out for quite sometime and thus have lower price than before/at release) currently costs €44,99 which would translate to about $61, rather than $20-30 as you claim.

I did not assume they would not release it as a whole package. I’m not going on assumptions though. We can assume things and sing Kumbaya all day if we wanted. I’m basing this on what the post gives us.

Also, Euro prices seem to always be scaled up due to the different currency (I’ve lived in both North America and in Europe). An expansion for WoW has never been $61.00 US. $40.00 at most before certain taxes depending on the state or province. Regardless, WoW’s expansions have dropped significantly within a few months of its release.

Anyways, although 200 gems isn’t all that much, it’ll add up quickly for new players. I’d recommend setting the price at 100 or so gems to reflect the average price of other games’ expansions a little better.

Paying for past content?

in Living World

Posted by: weskay.9217

weskay.9217

I’m not a huge fan of the current 200 gems system. This shouldn’t affect me much (or at all) since I am usually online on a daily basis but I am someone that always sympathizes for new players and yet again, I feel for them about this. If a new player starts a year after the launch of the LS, they would need to spend about $60 for all of the content they missed should they want to replay the story. It’s not an insane amount, no, but it can add up for new players that are starting even later than that. GW1 expansions were about $30-40 on launch and only went down in price later. The expansions for GW1 also came out on a yearly basis roughly (which I assume the LS will essentially do as well). Sims expansions have been $20-30 with a new expansion coming in every 9 months or so. World of Warcraft’s expansions are $20 (for Pandaria) which come out… what… every 6-9 months as well? The average cost of a year’s worth of expansion in a game is around $30. In my honest opinion, I strongly feel like GW is taking a few steps backward having a cost on the missed content (or at least a cost this steep for long periods of absence). Cutting the cost in half would be a lot more reasonable. After the megaserver and its thousands of concerns spilling out from that huge disaster, I feel like GW would want to reel in its lost players. Have the S2 free of charge (perhaps S1 as well when they release it). This will get some players back and lead to happier customers which ultimately seem hard to come by these days.

Paying for past content?

in Living World

Posted by: weskay.9217

weskay.9217

I do like that the Living World is becoming more-so permanent. I think that is a great step forward but having a cost for missed content is now a few steps backward. 200 gems isn’t a lot at first if you miss an episode here or there but for someone just starting to play, 200 gems for months (perhaps years) will indefinitely add up to high costs. It’s roughly a little more than $60.00 US for a years worth of content. An expansion for most games is generally around $30.00 (from what I have seen). I think that if ArenaNet wants players to pay for missed content, it should be 100 gems instead of 200 to reflect the prices of current boxed (or digital) expansions.

I realize that it is very easy to login to the game being a current player but I really feel for new players that might start in a few months or years time. The cost will add up quite high for a years worth of content. Cut the cost in half or perhaps eliminate the cost altogether and you will have a lot more of your happy customers that quite honestly seem a little sparse as of late.

Right, that would work but I’ve noticed that there are -again- few PvP dailies. Do the 50/50 kills, 5/5 events, 15/15 interrupter, etc. work in PvP now? Before, those were all in the PvE category. Getting the monthly completionist would be difficult if not.

Skill point collection would seem like a long trek as well at times since you’re relying on the RNG scrolls from the champ bags.

I PvP’d a fair amount but haven’t in a little while post-patch because of the current matchmaking system (off topic). Anyways, I was just curious if PvP-only players could obtain the monthly and dailies.

question regarding load time

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: weskay.9217

weskay.9217

It’s very likely that it is mega server related as the first responder said. I added a few cents in one of the mega server feedback forums about the loading times. Loading into the various waypoints specifically for the world bosses takes upwards to one minute for me now which is severely problematic since most world bosses die within that time due to the huge zergs this mega server creates. It was never this slow. Lion’s Arch pre-patch took 15 seconds roughly which was the longest I had to wait. Every other zone took seconds as well.

Hello all,

Just a quick note to let you know that we still have a dedicated team working on improving the megaserver issues.

So does that mean they’re removing it? Because the entire thing is a complete mess. Over 40 pages of valid reasons as to why it fails. Sure, there are some positives but the negatives severely outweigh them.

Again, I wish to mention that this mega server should be optional! If people want the overloaded zones, let them fill their boots. For those that do not, let us have our communities and home servers back.

Guild puzzles have been horrendous since this mega server. In a few words: there was three other guilds doing the exact same puzzle as us. In say/map chat, we tried to collaborate together to make it fun and non-stressful. One guild however said “no, we do it our own way”. A few other things were said by them and it was quite clear that this [Aco] guild was not going to cooperate. They raced on ahead and felt the need to make asinine remarks. I won’t say much more other than that the puzzles are an utter mess now. It was not enjoyable whatsoever. Many (if not all) of us were turned off by this.

I just don’t understand it at all that there are many serious problems that this mega server poses. I’m flabbergasted that Anet hasn’t done anything about it whatsoever in over a month.

I’ve posted on here before and said my two cents but there is something else I would like to add. Doing certain heart tasks for world completion are much more frustrating with the mega server. Of the 5 or so people there, everyone was trying to compete with that one specific target. Because or or maybe more were level 80’s, the target went down in one hit or two. These specific heart tasks are just that much more frustrating to do. I used to enjoy doing the world completion to a certain extent but no, not anymore.

Like I said, this is only one problem to many others that I have written about in the past. I really wish that ArenaNet would listen to their members here. Well… maybe they are but they could potentially just not give two craps.

I realize that there is a minority that enjoy the mega server. In a ‘perfect world’, this mega server would be optional so those that like it can join it and those that dislike it can opt out of it. Strangely enough, this ‘perfect world’ could very well happen but I whole-heartedly believe that ArenaNet could not care less about their consumers anymore.

Got a “friendly” copy and pasted message as a response weeks after I had sent in an email about this. They got their money from us, why care about customer satisfaction anymore. Who cares, right?

Wheres New Content?? (State of the Game) [merged]

I’m gonna hold mah breath till we have new content! = P

I wouldn’t do that, you’d be holding your breath for a very long time resulting in death.

Simply put, I think it’s pretty ridiculous that the game has been out for what… almost two years now and we have basically nothing to show for it. I thought SW:TOR was bad… HA! I was mistaken. We have had teeny tiny pieces of added content that is permanent but unfortunately, most of which has little to zero replay value due to the rewards and difficulty associated with it (ie: TA Aetherpath and Great Jungle Wurm). I think the only major permanent addition that I have enjoyed to a certain extent is Edge of the Mists.

Don’t say that the Living World was added content because really, who’s brilliant idea was it to dedicate (seemingly) hundreds of hours of time and resources on content that you can play for 2-4 weeks and never again? Really, who’s genius idea was that?

Aside from that little rant, my friend’s list has dropped tremendously in activity. A few friends that I am close with even stated that they’re simply bored. There is just no new content and the Living World is nothing to look forward to anymore.

Combine the above with the insidious “MegaServer”, poor customer service and customer satisfaction…

Feedback/Questions: MegaServer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’ve read numerous pages and I agree with nearly everything people have to say that is problematic with the MegaServer.

One point that I didn’t see mention was the long loading times. This might be a personal issue of mine but zoning into a zone never took longer than about 20 seconds with the exception of old Lion’s Arch. Zoning into certain maps take me over a minute (upwards to two minutes) to load. This has never happened before. Last night for example, I was zoning into Blazeridge Steppes to kill The Shatterer. I was stuck in the loading screen for nearly two minutes. Shatterer was nearly dead by the time I loaded in. The community character model limit is already low and graphics-wise, I should not have to put them to the point where I am playing a game from Sega Genesis. I realize that this might not be a universal issue but ever since the MegaServer patch, loading times for nearly every zone have been increased. I also realize that this is a minor issue at best but it is still relatively frustrating considering what I was used to.

Temporary LS content is not cutting it

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I get the objective behind the Living Story/World but it’s incredibly impractical to have temporary content for people that play this game very casually. People will play this game casually because of the non-existent subscription fee. Players come back after a month or two while being away and have missed an entire chapter of the events that have happened. Players should be able to replay these stories somehow.

Not only is it worthwhile for the casual players but honestly, as far as content goes, what has really changed in almost two years of the game’s release? New Fractal levels (cool, but not everyone enjoys Fractals), a new TA Aetherblade Path (who even does that anymore?), a new Wurm world boss (again, not that many people do it), and what else? I can’t honestly think of anything else at the top of my head. I don’t mean to bash the game but we really don’t have a lot to show for two years of a game’s release. Something big and permanent is definitely needed.

Another quick bump for players seeking a new home. The GW2 division and guild of Vanquish is a well established one within Tarnished Coast and have been around since launch! More information about us is found in our first post as well as our website.

We know that with the recent releases of new games, players start to migrate and guilds can eventually become less and less active. We not only wish to invite individual players but us at Vanquish feel it would be beneficial to invite guilds that share common goals and visions as us. Mergers aren’t always successful but I am happy to discuss this option with any guild leader that wishes to pursue an option such as this.

Give me a shout anytime for more information!

Are megaservers killing the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Yeah, before the patch, the game was quite enjoyable for nearly everyone. There were no major issues with the way the game was before. A few minor concerns, sure, but nothing to warrant the changes for a forced MegaServer and a world boss schedule. Post patch, nearly everyone that I spoke to is against it. Some were against it from the get-go and some were actually very optimistic about it at first but are against it now 110%.

You can’t completely blame the MegaServer for the disheartened players that want to leave although it does take up the majority of the blame. There has been no new playable content in months. People are simply getting bored and the way that the Living Story was in the past is turning more and more people away too. You might say they are in a lose-lose situation here but from a personal standing point, I feel like they are simply not listening to their players when it comes to these things. Living Story is good if you’ve got nothing else going on in your life. If you’re a busy person with work, school, traveling, etc. you’re bound to miss out on a portion (big or small) of the LS because 90% of everything released was locked away (nearly all of it was temporary and can never be replayed again). I won’t elaborate further with this as I think you’ve got the gist of it.

Personally, I am quite disappointed with the way ArenaNet has been going about this. They seemed to have thought this was a good idea but it surely isn’t after having a huge majority of players disheartened to say the least. I feel that this was nothing more than an increase in profits for them (MegaServer is cheaper to maintain than individual servers). Sorry Anet, but this just doesn’t work in the eyes of your player-base. Cut your losses and hit that abort button. That seems to be your only good option at this point.

Just ignore the guy. He’s not providing anyone with anything useful. He hasn’t been affected by the bugs so whatever he has to say is quite irrelevant and should be taken with a grain of salt.

We’ll just have to wait for tomorrow to see if this patch actually fixed the problems. Already been roughly a week, what’s another day? Just play a different game and hope you get into that to leave this one in the dust.
