I just saw here in a cutscene … um, makeup department to Zojja please …
to better illistrate the problem I am having … I have been playing for about 2 hours, done some hearts and events that require killing, killed along the way to next event/heart, killed a couple of vets and a champion.
this is what I have aquired from drops,
2 blue items to merch
12 craftables or items that result in craftables
29 junk items
… that is all.
If this bug was in our favor they would of hot patched it by now

Ok so I love the pve environment (despite some problems with it), I love WvW, haven’t really tried sPvP apart from that 1 event during halloween, BUT where is the love for guilds.
There is no guild halls, no alliances, no guild rankings, nothing, nada, zilch, zero love for guilds in Guild Wars 2 … Did they not see what made guilds great in GW1? Sure we can get guild bonuses in pve and wvw, but thats really about it … I miss the guild halls where guilds and alliances could hold events …. ahh the quiz/talent nights in the Guild Hall ….
Why are people hating on Trahearne, he has united the races, he has lead winning battles, and most importantly, has been victorious against the undead. Without his guidance we would of become undead.
Lets see, open world PvP … small group of lvl 80’s camp outside Divinity’s Reach waiting for the low lvl players to come through the gate so they can inflate their pvp kill achievement with ease ….
No thank you
GW2: 1. Adding a gear treadmill.
2. No open world PvP and it’s very gear dependent. I hate getting steamrolled just cause x players got better gear.
You don’t play WvW much do you … you get steamrolled reguardless of gear … even warriors with buff gear can get taken down by a squishy thief.
I am almost tempted to say what about those of use who got hardly any drops from all those vet kills, and only recieved crappy chest rewards (even the 10 slot box was useless on the character that got it because they are getting 20 slot boxes.
I’m working on world completion, am level 80 and at 77% but haven’t even been to Orr yet. Am I going to be able to solo the waypoints and skill points (I’m a thief so squishy) or will that be impossible without a group?
Some skill points and vistas will require a distraction to get, unless you kill everything off (which may require a couple of people in some cases) but all way points you should be able to run around getting.
The hardest waypoint will be the Arah one. If you are unlucky, the undead will mob you as you run up the stairs while being pummeled by fish slinging catapults. And if its over-run by undead, you have the same fun getting back down since most of the time you will be “in combat” and unable to waypoint out.
I would like all of the Legendary weapons to shoot rainbows.
All. Of. Them.
pfft, I want catapults to shoot double rainbows … that way I can play WvW and be in awe of the power of double rainbows.
Orr is designed for groups, almost all assault and defend events will fail if the group is not large enough, with the exception of escort events which only need a small number of people (even 1 will do). Alot of people don’t do defend events, instead complaining when their favorate Temple/Dungeon is contested and not waiting around to help take it back. A small few will try to run the event chains that unlock the area, if they dont have the numbers they will fail.
Moral of the story, if you want uncontested areas, either help defend, or help with the events to take them back. Complaining about it aint going to make them uncontested any quicker.
Note also: uncontested areas that can be taken over by undead, will also show as contested while defend events are happening, this is why some people don’t bother with defend events, because they can’t just waypoint to the event.

“Vet and Champs should give good loot and there are a number of reports on perceived decrease in the frequency of drops”
Well, the first day or two before I ever came here and posted, I also thought it was just perceived. However, after more than a week and everyone else’s input, I can say perception IS reality.
I can understand why he said percieved. The drops could of been more stackable items so it looked like you were getting less when checking inv. I investigated this myself early on and it definitely was not percieved, but yes I did note I was getting more % stackable items, but overall I was also getting less items in my experience. It is affecting ALL my characters of different levels in different parts of the game, including drops in dungeons and WvW, even more evident with low level characters not having as much money at certain levels as other charactors I leveled prior to this loot bug. And yes champs and vets hardly dropping anything, and if they ever do drop anything (extremely rare) its usually junk or a low quality item.
I can’t help think that instead of the Nov 15 patch increasing the quality of loot for champs and vets, it decreased quality for everything, and lowered drop rates. This observation is based on my experience of drops from champs/vets being extremely rare, drops from mobs (when spamming grenades) being low despite being in a party, and loot quality being more alot more (% wise) junk, crafting mats, and items that result in crafting mats than observations made prior to Nov 15 patch when investigating magic find.
This bug also exposes even more that magic find lowers drop rates as you definitely notice the lower amount more when you switch between no MF and MF gear. This occured prior to the Nov 15 patch (about a 26% lower drop rate) but the lower drop rates overall since then has made it more noticable.
Please everyone realize there will be no response here and the rates were actually nerfed when they stated they woukd increase them.
Everyday it is becoming more and more evident to me and players across Tyria that Anet does not give a kitten whether you play or not. They will push this game in whatever direction they want regardless of what they said they were going to do.
Just watch and analyze everything they do. Its screaming downfall of gw2.
Part of the problem is that this thread, and others, was moved from the bugs forum early in its life, so the people who needed to see it weren’t seeing it. I am pretty sure the dev team didn’t know about it until a few of us were asking questions about it in the AMA which is why Chris said he would be discussing it in depth with the Production and Design team. He also stated later that there needed to be better communication between dev team and the community, I can’t help think that this was on his mind at the time.
No.
Legendaries were originaly purely cosmetic and didn´t have any better stats than exotics, and never were supposed to have either if one believes the prelaunch advertisement.Ascended added better stats, which put peoples panties (including mine) in to twist. And also since legendaries wouldn´t really be legendaries anymore they had to raise their stats too…well will have to as soon as ascended weapons release.
Ok so the complaints are coming from those who already have legendary weapons and transmuted them to the stats they wanted, and will not benifit from the boost to legendary weapons when it happens? I’m sorry its just confusing seeing alot of complaints about vertical progression when to me it looks like horizontal progression. I suppose you could see it as weapons getting a linear progression, but from the players standpoint its still a horizontal progression to get it.
Can someone link what you guys are talking about please.
You will have to scroll down a bit.
Ok correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the addition of “better than exotic” lvl80 gear, below legendary, just add a between step with horizontal progression?
So we have vertical progression until lvl80, at which point we have horizontal progression? So why all the complaints about vertical progression in reguards to the new content?
I think the AMA made it quite clear, the way they release the new gear was a mistake in hindsight, and they intend to rectufy it in future patches including new gear dropping around the world so that you can still work on legendary while getting infused gear.
Now saying that, the idea of no grind was one that drew me towards GW2, and you can imagine my disappointment when I discovered certain paths within the game required grinding, such as crafting, whether it be for materials, or for gold to buy materials.
As for the vertical/horizontal progression, I am confused by these terms. All I know is for my character to go from point A to point B, I need to do certain things, and sometimes that involves repeating steps between points A and B.
When leveling a character I prefer to be solo cause I can be all over the map, with storyline and world events. This could be confusing, disruptive, and out right annoying for other players, plus I heard that having others with you in storyline can bug the storyline for either or both.
My gaming experience is varied with need for speed, far cry 2, black ops, eve, guild wars 1, and now guild wars 2.
What I like about GW2 is the WvW. Little asuran grenader keeps those wall loving mobs on their toes. What I dont like about GW2 is the grind, yes I expected it once I learnt about gathering and farming for what I needed for each character. The down side is that sometime progress is slow so it takes alot more time than I have spare.
All in all here is enough variety to lvl up without touching all the zones and once at 80 you can leave most of tyria behind.
Public Test Server
The one problem with public test servers is that you end up with a disjointed community where some some will live on the test server while the rest of us are on the live servers. I’ve seen this occur with many games. The one way around it is that each restart/login means your account on the test server is reset to the status it is on the live server, this means people can’t really grow their accounts unless they play on the live servers.
Aand he’s done. Decent AMA overall; he got off a couple hours earlier than he said, but that just means he was smart enough to not respond to peoples while half asleep. Hopefully we start seeing these AMAs occur on a more constant basis. I wish he would have answered more of the community questions; he only got through one section :/. Eh, he did good nevertheless.
Without todays AMA we might not have been able to draw attention to the drop rate bug for some time because posts kept getting moved from bugs meaning the people that needed to see them weren’t.
Thank you Chris, hope to hear more soon.
Arent these zones meant to appease the hardcore players? Or perhaps its just too hard for them so they went to FotM.
Players complaining about Orr and now complaining about FotM. It sounds like its either too hard for them (Orr) or too grindy (Orr & FotM)…You just cant satisfy them…sighhhhhhhhhh
Part of the problem with Orr is people don’t want to do some of the chains required. Arah is a good one, just because the NPC isn’t where they expect, they say its bugged and complain, but a couple of hours later, someones found the npc and begun the last parts of the chain to unlock Arah. People seem to forget, or dont realize that to successfully get Arah open, you need a successful chain from Caer to Anchorage.
(edited by wildcode.5403)
And the moral of this story is that i need to pay more attention to the feedback we are receiving. There is a great deal going on so a method of more open communication between the teams/design and the community would be great and I intend to work on how we can accomplish this.
Chris
Especially when bug reports get moved from where they should be and are overlooked.
Just by that statement alone it is definely bugged cause I haven’t gotten loot from vets and champs since the patch on Nov 15.
Someone finally got a response from Chris Whiteside about this issue, hopefully we will hear about it soon.
ok, there is no way he missed all those questions … he’s not answering questions about the loot drop bug
Yaks Bend still has people active in all those areas, and alot of the time alot of the waypoints are contested, they just secure enough to keep Arah open and a temple or 2.
Trying to get him to see questions than need answering as opposed to ones that just want answers is like thowing darts as a flee.
Since it was on the same weekend as the “free weekend” deal I guessing they did it as a showcase to show new people what GW2 is all about … epic battles … exploration … sweet sweet loot (for some atleast) …
I farmed the never-ending fort construction event at the penitent way point and noticed a significant increase in my rares. I farm in 30 minutes chunks (the duration of 1 omni-bar). I received between 2-4 rares every 30 minutes with 170 mf. As a warrior using a GS and Dual Axes, I can tag everything.
Then you are one of the lucky ones, I haven’t seen a rare/exotic in days. 12 hours of solid farming a couple of days ago I saw only 9 rares from doing the jofast/shelter/pent run. Ended up giving up and just buying the ectos I needed.
Also, a vocal minority cannot overtake Reddit, they would get downvoted to oblivion.
Valid concerns of the majority of players will naturally rise to the top.
What about the minority that need to have an issue addressed that is game breaking for them?
Here is a list of things I’ve seen people complain about
1. You get to lvl80, grab your exotic then its a bit of what now …
2. Grinding karma for karma gear has gotten alot slower since ANet messed with the event timings in cursed shore, and its only worth getting for the look if you really want it because of the mixed stats. Since the event timings were changed players have more idle time, and idle player is not an engaged one. You need to keep players enganged in the game to keep them wanting to play.
3. Legendary weapons require weeks of grinding, whats the point when exotics will do fine. (I have no incentive to really try for a legendary because of the grind either for gold to buy the precurser, or to get a precurser from a chest/the forge, unless I get lucky).
4. WvW server overwhelmed by rival servers and/or no-one running groups (time specific, there are times when we do hold ground and have a couple of large groups going but its usually in US prime time) …
5. Getting a specific path for a specific dungeon can be near impossable. This comes back to the playeer having idle time in the game waiting for something to happen. An idle player is not an engaged one, and a player who is not engaged with the game is more likely to turn it off and go find something else to do.
6. Bugged content, a player is trying to do an event but it turns out that they either can’t trigger the event or maybe can’t finnish the event due to a bug which can me anything from an NPC vanishing to some other bugged event blocking the event you want. Some players have turned off the game cause they were “stuck” due to a bug.
One way to keep people engaged when they are waiting is maybe some portable mini games (thanks to asuran technology).
That is such a great neutral answer. Certainly keeps us Oceanic people guessing till the next event huh? :P To be fair I don’t think he couldn’t have answered differently as the real answer will be how they handle their next few events. If I am not even given the chance to participate then I think this is the wrong game to be spending my time on.
I’ve seen it explained in other threads by ANet people that the timing is based on when they have the greatest number of people on. For us in the western pacific, GW2 is really quiet in our prime time, so to be involved in GW2 prime time event we need to wake up extra early.
In an ideal dynamically changing world, that there would mean Arah is closed.
I think the most interesting comment from him so far is about the new ascended items and how it was a mistake not to do it at launch and world wide … almost like he is saying, yeah we know we blew it, but we are going to be rectifying it.
Yeah but other questions are getting missed because of the huge list. There is a bunch of us on the forums who would love to know whats happening with the loot drop bug that the nov 15 update created. Unfortunately he’s either not seeing the question because of the amount of questions there, or its being ignored.
there’s a patch tomorrow?
My favorate quote of the day is “no grind” … I want to play his version of Guild Wars 2, because in my version, I even have to grind for exotic gear … whether it be for crafting materials, or for coin to buy crafting materials, I still have to grind, and even more so with the drop rate bug.
I am suprised that her royal highness has not put on her nickers yet after the tyrian tabloids plasted a simular pic all over their front page. There is also some questions about her rather loose fitting top as well. I think Queen Jennah missed some of here royal etiquette training.
drifter, the problem with that is that some people (including myself) are experiencing that with MF your drop rate and drop quality is worse, than without MF.
I am still seeing the odd teleport bot. I notice them because they appear at a mining node, act erratically, then dissapear before I can get the report dialogue up.
Asked about this in the AMA today, doesn’t look like we’ll get an answer. We really need someone from ANet to either say yes this is a bug and move this thread back to the bugs forum, or for ANet to say yes we did nerf drop rates.
It is hurting players, especially new charactors who dont make enough cash with this bug while leveling to buy the lvl30 & lvl60 trait books at their unlock level where as before “bug” you could buy all the trait books before you needed them.
Later on this hurts lvl80 characters working on getting exotic armor because they have to grind for atleast a week to get enough ectos salvaged from the now very rare yellow drops, or enough cash from selling what little drops they get to buy the ectos whereas before it took only a couple of days.
•The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.
Unfortunately the exact opposite happened, champions and vets rarely drop loot, and loot drops are now significantly worse for acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and dungeons, although personally I haven’t gotten a rare or exotic from a chest since the Ancient Karka event despite doing a couple of dungeons and a bunch of fractals.
Just want to add since it may be related, that magic find appears to makes loot drop rates and quality even worse
(edited by wildcode.5403)
If I read correctly, the intention (eventually) is to have ascended gear available all over the world, and looking back they should of done that in the 1st place.
They are answering roughly 1 question every 5 mins so I wouldn’t expect to get “much” out of todays “Ask Me Anything”. So far they have only answered questions reguarding the new content.
gah, some people are trying to “vote” their own questions up while the rest of us sit and hope they read our question despite posting early.
So far he’s only answered 2 questions and both to do with the new content
The whole AMA seems a little scripted looking at the questions they listed 4 days ago as a final draft. Will other questions get answered?
Warriors: Torch (so we too can see in dark places)
Engineer: C4 or Machine Gun.
I noticed there is no questions reguarding some of the bugs currently effecting players in a big way, such as the drop rate bug.
Can someone also confirm if this is in about an hours time.
