Maybe they extended their holidays? …..
That bug is still present.
Heaps of other bugs are still there.
And there is that much silence.
Well if you look at the Dev Tracker, there are plenty of ANet responses throughout the week to alot of other stuff, so that rules out holidays, staff being busy, and such. This thread is simply being avoided, just like the questions about it during the AMA were being avoided.
This is STILL happening, its turning me off the game, I don’t look forward to getting on and having to “grind” much more than I used to. Yesterday I got on, finished getting the 4G I spent 10 hours trying to get in Cursed Shore the day before, did my gathering run, and stayed in WvW for the rest of the day. I have characters I would love to level up, but “this bug” does not make it enjoyable to play them since I have to stay in areas alot longer to get the gear that will help in the higher level areas. This bug forces me to keep characters in lower level areas longer, grinding events, hoping to get the much needed upgrades via drops.
I can just imagine how a new player feels, gets their character storyline out of the 1-15 area, their character being level 16-20, and unable to survive in the higher level area cause they still mostly have their starter armor/weapons. This is the problem I am facing with 4 lvl 15 characters, and 1 lvl 35 character who is still stuck with most of the armor she got in the 1-15 area.
Not enjoyable …

I head this was disabled, must have heard wrong, time to go make some money
Hi, I’ve been playing for a couple of months now and I only just found out that you can set yourself to LFG status, quite by accident. Now I have seen people running around with the symbol above their head, but no-one I asked knew what it was. Maybe someone from ANet needs to do an article about the LFG features currently in the game and how we can best utilize them.
I swear some of the npc immobilizing skills last alot longer than displayed. I often run into this where I am no-longer seeing immobilzation icon but still cant move. I end up moving after what seems like for ever when you have a mob on top of you.
Add to this the bug/nerf to drop rates than means Jofast/Shelter/Pent event runs now earn you below 50s per hour (38s/h when I logged off last night) … earning gold in the game has become alot harder. I miss the days where I could earn 10g per session in Cursed Shores, they are long gone.
Fortune, I wish I had you “luck” … at one point I was getting about 50s per hours but towards the end of the night that lowered to about 38s per hour, gave up fighting the bug and went to bed.
Going to fight with this bug again shortly and hopefully get lucky enough to make the cash I need today with time to spare for WvW … if it doesn’t take all day again to make just under 4G.
Just to be clear, there are three (3) issues that this thread has exposed.
1. Overall drop rates/quality lowered (in open world, not just orr)
2. Champ/vet drops rates/quality very poor despite patch to improve them
3. Magic Find makes drop rates/quality worse
All are probably related issues with the loot table. But we have still to hear from ANet about them.
(edited by wildcode.5403)
I’ve been saying Magic Find was borked for a while now. Everyone else tells me I’m just somehow the most unlucky person on the planet when it comes to computerized RNG in GW2.
Don’t worry, you are not alone, I too have been saying MF is not working properly, even provided numbers to show so. And I to have been told its just my bad luck. This bug exposed the flawed magic find for many more others, so I hope both this loot drop bug and the flawed magic find get fixed.
I think what OP is trying to say is that Legendary items should be earned, not bought. As it is alot of people have partly “bought” their legendary. I think the hardest part is the precurser, maybe it should be a selectable reward in exchange of achievement points, and make it account bound. That way a true legendary is earned not bought.
With the black Lion salvage kit you get an ecto 100% when salvaging exotics
Um, no, I picked up an exotic in factals today, used a BLSK on it and got 1 ancient wood …

Is it bad that the pictures in this thread make me want to jump off the edge with a res orb, so I can run around in the desert.
Edit: Can anyone tell me why the moderator posts on this thread are grey and in all the others they are red? I know it’s of no consequense but I’m curious.
I believe that all “Moderator” posts are that colour, the red ones are ANet staff or official representitives I believe. And yes, it is a red post we are after
So about an hour ago I posted that I needed another 50s to do what I wanted, well this bug is biting me hard tonight. In one hour, I made 38s … so much for my estimate of 50s/hour … I just was not getting enough drops, nor enough equipment to merch.
I give up for tonight. This bug has won this round, only made 3g63s in about 10 hours of game play in Cursed Shore, but I will fight it again tomorrow. Good night, and good luck. Hope to hear from a dev on this topic sooner rather than later.
(edited by wildcode.5403)
This bug is really annoying when you are in Fractals and want to use the TP to make some room (before getting to the end of that stage). I still have this issue many hours later, but I have to size up the need to use TP vs having to go though the two step login everytime this bug shows its head.
At least we got some response from someone, but not the response we really need.
Chris or someone else needs to do a follow up to let us know what is happening. Have they investigated it? Are they seeing the same issues we are? What additional information do they need to help pin it down? Stuff like that, and anything else that would help expodite a resolution. The longer we hear nothing, the more frustrating it gets.
Chris wanted greater communication with the community, what a great place to start and let us help them resolve this quickly.
I have been playing ALL skritten Day in Cursed Shore just trying to make 4G to get some armor skins off the TP … more than 8 hours … and I still have another 50s to go
so close yet it seems so far. Someone said it earlier, with this bug, Orr is a chore. I work really hard to get little rewards. And then once I have the 4G for the armor skins I got to do it all again tomorrow just so I have some coin on that character to waypoint and repair with. No, I dont need the armor skins, but I’m trying to do what one of the selling points of this game was … fully customizable armor, and with this bug, it makes it a grind to make happen.

This thread just put the spanner into the works for my plan to turn my male mesmer into a female … she wouldn’t look right with such a manly name
… please ANet give us an option to change the name with the transformation kit.
I hope what I posted earlier shows ANet that it is a bug and that it is not bad luck with the RNG. I hope ANet sees that it is hurting open world. I hope ANet understands that this problem is every where in open world and new characters are not immune to it, infact they suffer more because they get less drops of the much needed upgrades that they need as they level up. I hope ANet understands that it is hurting the market as the price of items like ectos continue to rise because of a lack of supply this bug is generating. Even “rare” items have gone up in price to reflect ecto prices. I hope ANet sees that as a result of this bug and the increased cost of crafting exotic armor, the community has to “farm”/grind even more to obtain crafted exotic items, and it is even worse for those grinding for legendaries.
And I really hope ANet responds to this to express to the community that they are listening, that they understand our pain, and when we can expect a fix.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just a placebo. Until I see conclusive tests it’s no different than the Easter bunny to me, even then I wouldn’t give a kitten on getting any.
Let me point you to this post https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Magic-find-is-not-working/725964
Higher Magic Find works if you are after more crafting materials from drops, so fines/salvagables/bags, beyond that my tests show you are better off without it due to it lowering drop rates. Now experiences may vary depending on where you test it, your own magic find levels, and your luck with the RNG.
Hey wildcode I also want to point one more thing
this is from official lost shores patch notes on wiki“The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.”
just yesterday I killed 3 champions 1 dropped 1 silver other 2 dropped nothing and btw I soloed 2 and last one I got help from 1 person
It is clear that at least this part is not working as intended !
Yes I agree, but dont have numbers to back this up except my experience which is before Nov 15 I rarely got loot from some champs and vets, and after the patch I still rarely get loot from those same champs and vets.
The Numbers are in, ok, lets look at some numbers from just before the drop rate bug from15 simular event
total drops = 365
% white drops = 19%
% blue drops = 18%
% green drops = 7%
% yellow drops = 1% (Note: I was having issues with yellow drops when this was done)
% junk = 34%
% fines/salvagable/bags = 21%
Now simular 15 events today
total drops = 307
% white drops = 9%
% blue drops = 5%
% green drops = 6%
% yellow drops = 1%
% junk = 20%
% fines/salvagable/bags = 59%
Analisys:
- 16% decrease in total number of drops
(When comparing % of drops)
- 10% decrease in white drops
- 13% decrease in blue drops
- 1% decrease in green drops
- 0% change in yellow drops
- 14% decrease in junk drops
- 38% increase in fines/salvagable/bags drops
Conclusion:
Drops have definitely declined since just before the Nov 15 patch, with their make up also changing. The numbers dont lie. On the up side, we are getting more crafting materials now. This is why inv is taking longer to fill, because you are getting alot more stackable items than before, and alot less of the non-stackable ones. Because people tend to bank crafting mats and only merch junk/white/blue/green items, you also end up with a much lower income from these drops.
(edited by wildcode.5403)
Just to let you guys know, a 2h old thread in this forum stating an increase in drop rate was not long ago responded to by a Mod … meanwhile we still wait to hear about this one, and I am still only getting a few white/blue/green items per event giving me about 50s per hour, as of 5 mins ago. I am still getting alot of junk and crafting materials compared to when loot drops were working normally.

I truely dont understand why there is a DR when parts of this game require “farming” if you dont have the coin to buy from the TP. And for the item to be on the TP, someone has to “farm” it.
my engineer does have infinite swiftness … 5 sec cool down, 6 secs of swiftness, just keep hitting my med kit.
This question was posed by someone else who asked me a hypothetical …. could of ANet changed the sensitivity of the deminished rewards code, made it more sensitive to help combat bots effecting the market.
This is quite possible, would explain so much, why all characters are effected. The problem with DR is that you have to farm to do certain things in the game, triggering the DR code, making you needing to farm more. And since according to WIKI you accrue points the more you “farm”, you would see this effect all aspects of your gaming experince even after you finish farming and switch characters/tasks.
According to WIKI these points are reset at the same time the dailies are so it would be interesting to test. But a straight up observation of this is that the 1st couple of events seem to do better than the rest of them.
“Due to the comparatively high level of rewards in FotM, the amount of loot players get from the open world is perceived to be much lower than it actually is. We will update the loot tables in FotM accordingly to eliminate the discrepancy between dungeon and open world loot.” – hypothetical ANet statement.
There will be a much bigger outcry if that happened because:
a) there is lots of edivence showing that there is a problem with loot drops.
b) alot of the farmers moved to FotM because of the reduced open world loot.
The evidence is that there is certainly a reduced number of drops over a time period with particular events when compared to a simular period pre-Nov 15. Out of the drop you do get the overall quality is lower, much higher junk and crafting material %, much lower % of whites/blues/greens/yellow compared to pre-Nov 15.
This is even more evident with yellow drops when pre-Nov15 you could do events around pent/shelter and get 2-3 yellows an event. Now you are lucky to get one in a 2 hour time period.
(edited by wildcode.5403)
I might be wrong, but didn’t ANet already say in the AMA that loot drops were bugged and that they were being worked on? Like I said, I could be wrong, but if that’s correct what that what you were looking for?
No, they said they needed to investigate the “percieved” lower drop rates, there way of saying that they think we’re imagining it. They did not say there was a bug with this, they would not say if it was intentional. The only thing they said was vets and champs should be dropping good loot, which they are not (when they do rop something).
Only the “active” items stack .. so when on land the underwater items dont count. When using your rifle, the MF on your sword that you have setup in your swap does not count. When in water, the MF on your helmet does not count.
The longer we wait to hear something, the more aggrivating this bug is … I am to the point where it is a chore to play because I need to put alot more time into farming just to make enough coin to do thew things I enjoy doing in this game.
Please ANet atleast let us know what is going on.
Did you really intentionally nerf drop rates to push people into fractals, just to say “hey, look how popular it is” …. one reason its so popular is because its the ONLY place to make decent coin.
Although, I did 2 stages of fractals today and both times did no even half fill my inv. Only made 60s all up out of the loot, and the one exotic I did get … no ectos from it
I am beginning to think this is a “selective” nerf because others are making coin out of fractals, my 1st 4 levels in fractals I made a boat load with full inv every stage. These 2 stages, only made a little bit in comparison. But I did do the 1st 4 stages of fractals on the event weekend.
I feel like I am being punished for my playing style, where I rely on myself to gather the materials I need, save the coin I need, and craft my own stuff where possible. And while the game allows you to do that, at this point in the game for me it is not contributing to the economy as much as someone who uses the TP for all their things. ANet is a business, and my current style of play does not make money for them. Later on it will as I get to the point where I have excesses and move those excesses to the TP, but for now it doesn’t.
ANet want to discourage anything that is not making them money, and this “bug” is certainly doing that. It is reducing supply of some items on the TP, increasing the cost o f those items. The higher the cost, the more gems that get bought, and the more money ANet sees. And it is disheartening that ANet will hurt the poorer playerbase in the game like this.
The least ANet can do is make a statement about it. The most they can do is fix it as quickly as they fixed bugs that some players benifited from.
(edited by wildcode.5403)
this bug is making playing a chore, I want to WvW, and I want to get some armor skins, I need coin to do both and only making 50s an hour is not fun.
Gilosean, actually I ran the numbers before the loot drop but and higher magic find had a lower drop rate, and could not get a response from ANet about it. The loot bug exposed this even more since you get alot less loot to begin with.
Here is the general run down of what my investigation showed.
1. higher magic find lowered the drop rate by 26%
2. % drops of whites/blues/greens actually lowered
3. % drops of crafting materials and items that result in crafting materials (bags/salvagable) increased.
4. % of junk and yellow items stayed the same.
Conclussion, if you want more coin, dont use MF, if you want more crafting materials, use MF. Especially note that you have a greater chance of getting more yellow items without MF in a set time period than with MF due to the lower drop rate MF causes.

This issue is creating a bunch of haves and have nots, the haves have all been playing Fractals, the have nots have been playing open world. Then play fractals you say … so I have to find a group that does not mind me going AFK randomly to deal with out of game stuff, since I’m often doing something else and focusing on game when not too busy.
You need a solid block of time for fractals, despite what my life time says, I am always going AFK for a few minutes at a time randomly, so open world is my only option. STOP penalizing us because we don’t have solid time for fractals.
So just buy gems you say …. I dont have the real $$$ to do so, I am not a trust fund baby, and despite me already having poored $$$ into this game, my bank account is not bottomless. I am “forced to grind” because despite the bug I am a little better off grinding same events or groups over and over and over, than running around randomly killing stuff.
The only winners here atm are the low level fractal farmers (who are enjoying the loot drops that open world used to have), the finacially secure (who just buy gems and convert them to gold), and ANet.
SO, I get to Cursed Shore last night to try to make some cash, and guess what, Jofast faild because only 2 of us were doing it, only 8 people were doing events between Shelter and Pent, and I saw no-one else in the 2 hours I was there.
This is definitely killing open world, oh and as for loot, I got more junk than anything else in that 2 hours but I did manage to make 1G in TP and merch sales by pure luck, which ment even selling the craftables (which I actually need some of but coin was more important as I had less than 25s).
The loot drop bug means the philosophy of “you dont have to grind” has gone out the window. You dont make enough running around randomly killing stuff to buy the things you need, so you end up sticking to the areas where you know you are going to get a better result, whether it be the jofast/pent/shelter run, or farming particular mobs for crafting materials.
The ONLY ways you can avoid the grind is either get lucky and get dropped an expensive precurser (which only covers your costs for a short while), or dump real $$$ into the game, some of us do not have trust accounts you know.
Am I annoyed, yes, since this bug came out, I’ve had to use my coin (across all characters) to get exotic gear for one characters, across 8 characters I have maybe 5G, and fast running out with WP and repair costs.
(edited by wildcode.5403)
I ran into a simular issue today, with the loot drop bug not allowing me to make much money in my free time, I used up all my cash waypointing around during a guild activity and ended up having to quicky “run” to a merchant to sell what little I had (only 20s worth by the time it all sold on TP and merch). So tonight I’m “trying” to make some cash via one of the karma runs if the loot drop bug doesn’t get in the way too much.
As a now long dead skritt once said, “Quick, kill it!”
There are a number of issues that prevent me from recommending GW2. Thankfully all issues are “temporary” and will be fixed in due course but do not make the game enjoyable with certain playing styles.
You have to keep in mind a number of things they need to check include (but not limited to)
– who attacked the Ancient Karka and didn’t get chest reward.
– out of those who disconnected prior to finish and reconnected shortly after into a finished instance.
You have to remember they have to work out ways to sort out between those who really did disconnect due to network issues, and those who gave up due to the amount of time it was taking (and lack of drops) only to find out they had a chance at a precurser and felt cheated when they raced back and couldn’t get the chest.
This bug is semi-blocking my progress at the moment in the sense that all 3 of my lvl80 characters are running out of coin, and using them to farm is a long boring process with this bug as you need alot more time to make coin. And this bug is also semi-preventing me from leveling my lower level characters who, because of the low drop rates, have not been able to upgrade their armor equiv to their level from drops so fighting stuff at their level involved dieing alot more, increasing waypoint and repair costs, and fighting lower level stuff means they dont get the armor upgraded to the level they need.
Not enjoyable
I dont even have enough coin to go run around WvW for a few hours (and pay for the enevitable repairs)
I have maximum MF and was using a MF booster the last hour.
The problem with this bug is that magic find makes it worse, now whether this is because of a “long standing bug” with magic find (when even before this bug it lowered the drop rate the more magic find you had) or by design we don’t know. I’ve never got a response about it from official sources when I asked about it, and even got “in trouble” for “bumping” a thread which asked for official feedback on it.
Have anyone tried to repost it in Bugs? since now we have AMA answer and all?
There is a new thread in bugs about this issue, with some extra detail and a little bit of “this is what it seems like” to help explain the situation. And some grumpiness at the delay in anything happening considering the dye drop bug was noted and fixed quickly because it was in our favour.
Are you sure its not one of the professions with teleport type skill? I have seen them used alot in some of the karma farms as a faster method of moving around. Even running between event they can “out run” everybody else by using it.
DevorianDevil, the problem was the original thread got moved early before the right people saw it, and its obvious that the right people dont read the discussion thread. A few of us kept asking questions about the bug during the AMA until someone use bold to get the question noticed and it was quite evident that the dev team didn’t know about it before then. Its only been a couple of days since the AMA but yes a follow up response would be nice so we know that it is not being ignored in favor of profit. This is part of the reason some prices are as high as they are, and as a result people will be buying more gems to convert to gold to buy same items … bug = profit.
(edited by wildcode.5403)
Here is what I think happened (as an example).
I think the loot table goes something like
– nothing
– junk
– craftables (including bags and salvagable)
– whites
– blues
– greens
– yellow
– gold
Now before the “bug”, the center seemed to be around the whites (since whites seemed to be more common than others), but what seems to have happened is the center seems to have been pushed towards junk (since junk is the most common item).
Not sure how else to explain it better, but would also explain why there is less drops as “nothing” has more chance than before.
(edited by wildcode.5403)
Just wanted to add that many people including myself also noted that full Magic Find gear lowers drop rate even more, making Magic Find not worth having in open world with current bug. Not sure if this is by design or a bug but something that certainly needs some clarification from the devs.
In my case, when comparing Magic Find to without Magic Find I got
– 26% less loot
– lower % of whites/blue/green
– higher % of crafting materials or items that result in crafting materials (bags/salvagables)
- % junk and yellow/gold items stayed the same
(edited by wildcode.5403)
With the current loot drop rate bug, magic find is pointless since it lowers drop rate itself.
Hi, before moving this, please consider that the thread about this issue that was moved to Discussion should of stayed here since it appears the dev team did not know about it until the AMA, and still no official response from dev team in that thread about the issue that alot of people are having.
The issue: Loot drop rates have appeared to be lowered since the Nov 15 patch that was ment to increase drop quality for champs/vets. An example of this issue is after 2 hours of doing events, doing hearts, and randomly killing stuff (all required killing stuff), there were 0 drops from champs and vets, and what I did get in that 2 hours was
2 blue items
12 crafting mats or items that result in crafting mats (bags/salvagable)
29 junk items (items that get sold when you hit sell junk)
… that is all …
Rare/exotic drops are extremely rare now, you are lucky if you get one in 1h 20m of doing the Jofast/shelter/pent event runs (and related events) and it is extremely rare for the vets in those events to drop anything. This is a contributing factor in the increase in price of ectos on the TP.
This also effects players trying to level up characters, who used to have plenty of coin to buy “all” the trait books at level 40, but now struggle to buy the 20 trait one. It also makes upgrading gear from drops alot harder since the gear you can use drops alot less often. In 6 levels I’ve only managed to upgrade 3 items, pants, shoulders, and staff, and am struggling to stay alive doing events and hearts with the much lower level gear I still have on, making it a much less enjoyable experience since I have to use way points and repair armor more often than I did with characters I leveled up before this bug.
The ONLY place people are reporting decent drop rates are in Fractals early levels (people are complaining that higher level (20+) drop rates are also low). This is also a contributing factor for the lower population in open world since farming fractals is much more profitable due to this bug.
(edited by wildcode.5403)
We might have a better chance at getting a response from ANet if this thread was in the Bug forum where it belongs and not hidden away in the Discussion forum where devs are unlikely to see.
eeewwww, someones bound to eat one …..
I am so happy about this, I have been regretting some of my character “looks” that I made at creation … I may even end up spending real $$$ to do this sooner rather than later.
