What is Causing People Not To Play GW2?

My personal feeling on this is that the only way poor players can make money in the game, farming, is currently bugged. Yesterday I jumped on one of my lower toons to lvl them up, got annoyed by the low amount of drops and what was dropping was not good enough to replace the lower than required gear they were using for that area, so I closed the game and played with my iphone for a few hours.

Today I jumped on my lvl80 toons, did the ori gathering and switched the game off for a couple of hours. Then came back and tried to lvl one of my lower toons again and was lucky to upgrade 4 of their gear in about 8-10 hours of play.

The grind does get boring when you are doing the same things over and over without any variety. This is why when doing the pent/shelter/jofast run I will also do related events to break up the boredom, but sometimes its not enough especially when you are waiting around for what seems like 15 minutes for an event.

Whats worse is the grind is sort of required when you do other things like WvW because of the cost of lvl80 exotic armor repair which can eat away at your coin without you realizing it.

On a related note, the “rumor” (haven’t seen anything official) that the more you farm an area/foe type the less you get from them (anti-farming code) also makes the grind less appealing. If the rumor is true, you are forced to grind to make coin, but in doing so you are punished, meaning you get less return for your time, resulting in you having to grind even more.

Basically unless I’m leveling a character, doing WvW or playing with guildies (who are all in a different country) there is not much to keep me engaged. And being forced to grind to keep up with armor repair costs, and teleport cost, especially with the current drop bug, is not all that appealing.

What is needed is something we can do while doing all the waiting around, whether it be for a dungeon party, or an event in orr. Something that keeps us engaged. Surely the Asurans have the technology and know how to offer us something portable to entertain ourselves while we wait for action.

I was looking forward to finding all the mini-games I had heard about during development, but it seems, apart from keg brawl, they didn’t make it into the final product, or haven’t been released yet.

Since this thread got moved from bugs early in its life, I am concerned that the right people are not going to see it and therefore not have the bug addressed any time soon. I hope a mod sees this thread and does pass it on to the right people because it does not just effect those who “farm” but everyone from a new player trying to get through their story, or a player trying to lvl up alts, to the lvl80 player who is trying to farm the items for legendary, and all those inbetween.

There are 2 bugs here, but chances are they are related.

I think this bug may also effect WvW drops as well. I was playing WvW a couple of day ago for alot of hours and only got a few badges of honor from drops despite alot of kills. And yes I didn’t really get many drops either. But since I don’t play WvW very often I couldn’t do a proper comparison, but I did get more badges for doing last months WvW monthly than I did for this months + extra time in WvW.

This bug is making lvling charactors a little harder when using drops to upgrade weapons and armor. I played for 10 hours today with one of my lower levels and in that time was only able to upgrade 3 items from drops. Also lower drops means less to sell to merchant so less cash meaning my charactor is at lvl32 and is still unable to afford the lvl30 trait book despite only using cash for repairs. 3 other charactors I leveled to 80 before the bug had more than enough cash to buy the lvl30 and lvl60 trait books at lvl30.

Cursed shore not dynamic enough.

In places like Cursed Shore, I feel the events aren’t dynamic enough, nor world changing enough. For example, if undead fail to take back an outpost, they should try again with even more numbers, until eventually their numbers overwhelm the outpost. Then those numbers stay in the outpost and we need to organize a large group to take it back.

Also, if an output up the chain is lost to undead, it should mean that it then becomes alot harder to defend all the outposts down the chain, and harder to do any other operations due to being cut off from any further support and re-enforcements. This would give a mobile battle front that would make the area more dynamic, and more challenging.

With the combination of both overwhelming numbers and mobile battle front it would make endgame more challenging and more dynamic since just camping one spot would no longer be an option.

I realize that this sort of happens with Arah in the sense that troups have to move from Caer to Anchorage, but if a small group camps Arah to keep hold of it, they can hold it for as long as they want. Undead should increase the size of their attacks each time to make it harder to keep hold of, and those numbers remain once they take it, and get re-enforcements to maintain numbers, only to reset to lower number attacks when pact is able to regain it. And as another blow to pact presence in the area, undead should move on ALL outposts at some point meaning at some point Cursed Shore may not have an available way point because undead took the area over forcing us to support troups in Malchors Leap and/or Straits of Devistation to get Cursed Shore back.

Lets see, what I loved about GW1 …

1. Random Arenas
2. Alliances
3. Heros
4. Mixing dyes
5. Direct player to player secure trade
6. Salvage everything for materials
7. Polymock
8. Scavenger hunt
9. When attacking automatically move into weapon range
10. Could use what ever weapon I wanted
11. Underworld

So 11 things I loved about GW1 that never quite made it to GW2.

What is obviously overlooked in GW2 in terms of consistancy is ruins from GW1 settlements. Sure we get to see a bit of old LA under the water but the rest of Kryta, Ascalon Ruins, Shiverpeaks and Maguuma Jungle are all unrecognizable, and no points of interest/reference of old world ruins. And as for Crystal Desert and Fire Islands … missing from core game.

Gold/Gem exchange rate is making me sad

From what I understand, when ANet first opened the exchange, it had a certaim amount of gold and a certain amount of gems. As people buy gems with gold, more gold is in the exchange but less gems. The amount of gold vs gems drives the price, so as more people buy gems with gold, the price goes up since the exchange has more gold and fewer gems. Now if people buy gold with gems then the price will go down because of more gems and less gold in the exchange.

The method broadly described by ANet suggested the exchange started with a fixed number of gems, and unless ANet add more gems to the exchange, or people exchange gems for gold then the price will keep going up. Eventually the price may get to a point where people will use real cash to buy gems then exchange for gold, giving those illegal sellers a run for their money, and drive the price back down a little.

Already, the exchange rate means its cheaper to use masters salvage kits than to make mystic forge salvage kits

T6 materials are easier to get than people realize. Farm for 50 of the t5 equiv then use the mystic forge to transmute into 5+ t6 materials … sure you’ll have to do that 50 times but its easier. Or better yet, just loot farm in the 80 zones, sell and use the coin to buy t6.

T6 prices are high because people have been transmuting from t5 mats. Do a price comparrison, alot of the t6 are atleast 6x the price of the t5.

But yes, either way it is a grind, and even more so with the currect drop bug.

My opinion of Magic Find.

I myself 1st ran dungeons with MF gear cause it was the 1st exotic gear I made, I was just as squishy as the toughness gear I use now. MF gear is almost useless in dungeons as it is with very few mobs dropping stuff, and MF not having an effect on chests. And with the current drop bug you get even less drops in dungeons.

Unfortunately, people will descriminate against stats that aren’t what they consider ideal, not just MF. I have had the saddening experience of being removed form a group when wearing my toughness gear because the person believed only berserker builds should do dungeons.

This shows that everybody has an opinion, right or wrong, about whats others should be wearing when they group up with them. The fact is that all can work well together, or fail miserably, solely based on playing styles.

Once you hit 80 and are in one of the karma/loot farms you will have little problem teaming up with people, becuase you have more of a chance to get loot than when you’re solo.

I played a dungeon today, got 0 yellows or gold from chests and hardly any loot from mobs. I also noticed in open world I am not getting drops from veterans or “bosses”.

The way I see it you have 3 options. Going from easiest to most time consuming is

1. Farm for anything in an 80 area, sell it and use the cash to buy the Tier 6 fines.

2. Farm for Tier 5 equiv and transmutate into Tier 6 fines via the mystic forge.

3. Farm the high end foes in frostgorge sound as they occassionally drop t6 as well as their t5 equiv.

I had a message suppressed after only 1 message in map chat atleast an hour before hand. Jumped to cursed shore did a LFG pent/shelter …. got in a group said the thank you in party chat … well over an hour later most of the people in the group left, so I left group, went to do another LFG pent/shelter and message was suppressed for excessive messaging. I did not talk in map after the 1st LFG, and there was well over an hour between the 2 LFGs’.

My alternative of putting the LFG logo on my status I only worked out yesterday after 2 months of playing and not knowing what that logo was above players head. I was thankful that someone else knew what it was and invited me into their group. But I know lots of people who do not know about the LFG status icon displayed over characters and my second attempt at using the icon didn’t get anyone attention who were looking for people for their groups and ended up trying to invite myself into their groups.

What I’m doing is making armor to the stats I want, then transmuting it to the look I want. So either use Trading Post to browse the armor for the stats you want, or look at http://www.gw2db.com and chose your prefered stats. Then use the armor gallery link above to chose the look you want, and you can mix and match pieces from different armors for a more unique look. My ele will have pieces from 4 different armors atleast.

If its full, the its reach the maximum number of accounts the server can handle. You would have to wait for someone on that server to transfer to a different server to open up a spot.

You would think that with a dungeon that has multiple tiered difficulty levels that there would be a lobby similar to the SPVP lobby where people can create games and others can join. But no, apparently that doesn’t make sense and spamming map chat in LA makes much more sense from a design standpoint.

Considering that the only entrance to the dungeon is via LA, I think LA is the dungeon lobby. And its no different to before fractals when people would spam map chat for other dungeons.

Now that you mention it, I dont think I’ve been getting loot from killing vets, or champions in Cursed Shore. If I have then its not very often and usually merch trash.

I’ve been trying to say there was an issue with Magic Find for a while, I get lower drop rate and less white/blue/green but an increase in fines and items that give crafting mats. Coin wise I am better off without MF.

As for drop rates, I’ve always had bad drop rates compared to others who I group with, and I’ve spent more real $$$ on gems than they have, so that rules out ANet playing favorates towards real money gem buyers. Today and tonight I’ve been grinding in Cursed Shore trying to get yellows to salvage for ectos so I can make my armor, but in over 13 hours of game play I only ended up with 16 ectos from about 9 yellows thanks to BL salvage kits. in that time I managed to make about 6.5G from merched items and about 3G from TP’d items (included a stack of Large Bones since I was getting lots of them)

I wouldn’t call it negativity, I would call it pointing out an issue that I have been having ever since I got my 1st charactor to 80 about 2 months ago.

At first I thought it was just an unlucky day, then a week, then a month … now 2 months and my “luck” has not changed. I even resorted to grenade spamming everything to get hits on as much as I could and give those eles a bit of competition. Even with crit numbers flying all over the screen the drop rates are low compared to what others have stated to me of their experience in game.

There is absolutely nothing to explain my reduced drop rate reguardless of magic find other than my charactors are getting flagged. When I’m not in a group my drop rate is almost non-existant. When I am in a group my drop rate is lower than anyone else.

I spent the day in Cursed Shore doing the karma run between pent and jofast (more than 10 hours) and got 8 gold items total.

I have this trouble with ALL my lvl 80 charactors, reduced drop rates compared to everyone else, and they get worse if I use magic find. The only explination is that my charactors keep getting flagged by the anti-farming code … and no-one else in my groups has the problem.

Others I’ve spoken to say they get more drops than I do. For example, pent event, I get about 20 drops total and half of that will be the junk skulls, 1/4 craftables, the rest split between whites, blues and greens … while others in my group claim 50-60 drops … filling their inv and hardly any junk.

I have no choice but to grind to get what I need for gear for my charactors … and grind longer than anyone else because of ther lower drop rates … but because I grind I get flagged and it seems like I get punished more than anyone else for doing what I have to do to get what I need.

This game is NOT enjoyable when you get to endgame and have to alot work harder than your fellow guild mates to get what you need.

As for magic find … it is broken for me in the sense that I get lower drop rates with it and get less % blues/greens in favor of more craftables. So MF only worth it if I am after fines. I get more drops without MF and can make more coin merching/TP items without MF in the same period of time than with MF.

Cannot find Arah event chain or work out where it was up to, except for the crashed chopper with only 1 survivor visable, on Yaks Bend.

On Yaks bend today, any event in cursed shore with alot of people (15+) lags out on me, cant get loot and keep dropping connection and getting kicked back to charactor selection while trying to play the events. Why so broken? This is the 1st time I’ve played these events since the last patch. They weren’t laggy before the patch.

Just to add, just logegd back in, events were over, walked into outpost and was slowly killed by an invisible foe and healing would not fire Someone resed me in the outpost so it its not just lag thats killing me.

Monster invulnerable bug

oh yes, this is really annoying, but add to this the occassional monster that does go invulnerable, but keeps attacking while its health goes back up. I have had what OP said happen, but also invulnerable + attack happen as well.

With the water issue, I’ve seen it happen in open water, but also I’ve seen it when foe is right next to structures/rocks/map wall …. I am wondering if for a moment the mechanics thinks the foe is on the other side of the surface face, this would explain some situations (but not all).

End game is a big zombie fest. Zombies have been overdone in other games and were generally a gimmick while GW2 made them a key part of the world story. Yes people like killing zombies, but you have 3 zones of mostly zombies, no variety (evident when you try to do dailies).

Now add to this that when you get to Cursed Shore for your story, at the last storyline task, you HAVE TO team up with other players to finish your story. The issue now is that the recent Plinx nerf has pushed alot of people away from Cursed Shore, so much so that in the Karma corrodoor tonight I saw no more than 5 people, and up near Plinx I saw only 3 people. Someone was trying to organize a temple event but only 4 or 5 people turned up.

End game is not fun when you can’t succeed all because there was not enough people.

so...is there any farmable karma event now?

I just got my 3rd toon out to cursed shore to find hardly anybody around, all temples contested, Arah closed and karma corrodoors only having a couple of people in them.
i think the plinx nerf killed Cursed Shore

Well, got my engineer out to cursed shores, thought I would do plinx to help get stuff needed for armor, BUT no-one is doing the plinx chain any more and the Risen Abomination just runs around waiting for someone to kill it.

I’m having same issue as OP, when I try to turn the turret I keep getting kicked out of tank, same when I fire it. Been trying for 30 mins now and made no progress Add to that when I do manage to get the turret to turn, most of the time when I get kicked out of the tank the turret continues to turn to the full left or right depending on what direction I was pressing.

Note: Made progress by using mortors instead but it took a while.

The issue is line of sight, if you jump up on the edge of the wall you will find barrage will work better for you.

Where is the hoiday destination the consortium were so loud about. “Coming soon” “Unique holiday destination” “brought to you by the consortium”. Also consortium NPC’s suggest being in competition with BLTC, but the Consortium trader on the island represents BLTC.

Just to add to this, I saw some people saying they got the chest 2-3 times by cycling charactor selection screen and ending up on a different overflow server. While others got nothing. I got 5g worth of stuff from the chest but there are others who got 300G + worth of stuff from the chest

I helped alot of people find their way onto the puzzle about halfway along, avoiding most of the vents, they still had to jump up which was a challenge for some and they still had vents to deal with, just not as many. Thank you for having that spot in there ANet, saved alot of frustration from being knocked off the last set of vents and having to start over.

We never saw the Ancient Karka on the overflow I was on (yaks bend) … everyone was waiting at the treb as it was being built then someone said somethign about the boat and we all ran to it.

I got there just in time to see people complete the event for the 1st time after restart, and the event has not occured since and Noll only has a greet interaction.

Melee classes with no “spells” cannot damage the large vets, and I was killing the smaller ones but getting no drops so did not get a chance to contribute to the initial collection

I have bypassed story mode on some dungeons because I could not get a story mode group happening, instead tagging along to do one of the explore mode paths. I have done most dungeons in atleast 1 explore mode path, and only done 4 in story mode.

I keep hearing people rave about Magic Find saying they get better drops and such. Unfortunatly my personal experience is quite the opposite. Let me clarrify a few things before going further.

1. I have 115% MF without food/banner/other buff
2. I have tested extensively both with and without Magic Find and with a couple of charactors.

Firstly, when I use MF, I suffer a 26% decrease in total drop rate.

Secondly, junk drops and gold drops do not change % drop wise.

Thirdly, using MF sees a decrease in the % drop rates of white/blue/green items while fine crafting materials/salvagable items/bags see a % drop increase of 9%.

Basically, if I want items to merch (and yellows to salvage for ectos) I’m better off without MF. If I want crafting materials I am better off with MF.

I dont think this is the way MF should be working, so who do I talk to about this to find out why I have such bad luck with MF? I have mentioned in bugs forum threads about MF but no response from anyone

Armor/weapons/jewels/backpack all have MF stats.

If MF worked properly then I could see a point to using it, but in my experience MF does not work as expected and you end up worse of if you use it compared to if you dont (unless you are after crafting materials). The dungeons that I have done have very few if any drops from mobs so MF is almost useless in those dungeons.

In my personal experience, Magic Find does not work as one would expect, instead it increases the drop % of fine crafting materials, and items that result in crafting materials (such as salvagable items and bags), decreaces drop % of whites/blues/greens, while at the same time lowering over all drop rates. Since mobs tend not to drop things in dungeons MF is almost useless in dungeons anyways.

Is there any way to tell what dungeon paths/storyline you have done. I would like to work on the achievements but I can not work out how to tell which ones I need to do.
