Worth rolling a warrior now with the nerfs?

yes it’s going to be worth it apparently the nerf thread was a fake.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/balance/RE-Leaked-patch-notes/first#post3673614

warrior will likely get some tweaks but from what is said I wouldn’t get to over excited to quote anet with changes to the warrior (we are working on adding animations to the more powerful skill while we are also working on reducing the passive sustain from hs)

shoo I was worried about my sword sword longbow build but seems like I don’t have to freak out just yet

Hey everyone,

I’m sure you have all been wondering whether the ‘Leaked Balance Patch notes’ we have all seen on Reddit are true.

I am here to say that they are not. It appears the poster has taken some of the notes that we have in this thread in an effort to make their own look more legitimate, and mashed them together with some imaginary notes. These are not real patch notes.

This is a reminder that when patch notes are posted by a source other than ArenaNet, they should not be trusted. Particularly in the context of a “leak.”

Thank you for understanding!

for the most part i’m fine for the most part.

however the change to impale is a little overboard it only hits 1 person and can have most of it’s dps cleansed even if it’s a bit harder to cleanse (although warriors lack a lot of cover conditions so I personally figured it wasn’t a bad idea)

pindown i’m fine with as well although I don’t think they should went to3/4 a second instead it should went to 1/2 sec but that’s my personal opinion.

the issue is this will really have a nasty impact on sword sword / longbow builds. (i’d rather had a longer cd on impale then out right nerfing the dps like this)

bullscharge now dazes instead of knockdown except from the side or back kinda mixed feelings about this as well. bulls charge does lead you to believe this is more or less how it was intended but the issue is how all our hard cc is being handled.

Yes, thanks for reminding us most warriors are self-centered anyway. Comparing each banner to how much personal stat gain u get from it, is a great way to go. No wonder I see pug warriors take banner of defense as their 1st choice .. if there was a signet that gave the same stats they would take it instead, thankfully there’s not. I wouldn’t advise taking banners if its for selfish reasons, go signets instead. For the general case its always:
disc > str > ..

In cases where you can’t crit like for burrows or the TA endboss it is:
str > ..

you just called one of our best team support skills selfish and he’s asking about traits not banner.

Trying to get more damage on my tank build I want to go 30 into strength or disciple for the 15% damage or crit chance traits respectively. I will likely change to full zerker trinkets to help damage as well.

With the strength line the total damage increase would include 300 power, 20% damage increase (dual wielding and zerkers power).

With full discipline the damage increase would include 15% crit chance, 30% crit damage, and good use of fast hands with upcoming sigil changes (4 on swap sigils every cool down).

I’m wondering if the discipline line and higher crits would out damage the total damage increase of the strength line. Thanks in advance and feel free to include and handy traits or combos not mentioned above.

missed something in my previous post
without high precision your dps would likely take a major hit. unless your running 30 25 0 0 15. point being too much investment into disc will reduce your dps with out question with out enough precision to back it up.

with that said some investment into disc is not a bad idea but leaving the strength line as you are asking would be.

power trait line with out a doubt allow me to explain something kinda basic.

power increase over all dps
pre increases crit chance
crit =50% bonus damage + bonus damage accessires.

the thing that needs to be made clear is while you will hit crits more often with more investment in precion your over all dps suffers as to reap a large crit chance you’ll have to invest a lot into precision with out power you’ll hit a lot less over all dps.

precision is the second worst scaling stat in the game (after healing power)

power should usually always be over precision because of this fact.

why hit 5 10% more often when it makes your usual hit 3 when you can hit constant 4 being a good small simple example.
because that’s what it boils down too.

you will always have crit chance if you crit you get the bonus dps anyway. which means that exra precision was and is pointless. the crit chance will also be very similar unless you wreck you power which is a very bad idea.

i’ll be rather blunt with this because I’ve paid enough attention to your statements to know that you want warriors made useless.

you admitted yourself that a class can be op and under repsented as well as up and over. yet just prior to that you say a class needs to be nerfed or buffed to bring it into class balance.

you asked me if I want class variety i’ll be blunt. the day anet starts their balance around whose played most i’ll quit gw2 and so will many others. I want people to play how they want and I sure as hell won’t tolerate my fun being ruined because other people like warriors.

I played theif in wvw necro in wvw warrior in wvw working on a engi atm.

I laugh at the fact people think that warriors have the best dps in the game. 1stly eles have the higest burst dps in the game.

second place for single target goes to you probably didn’t guess it theif thirdly is finnaly everyones fav ok i’m joking its the guardian not warrior. wait but you don’t hit well heres the secret (guardians do more dps if they have the exact same might stacks! which is easy if your on a good team)

heres the thing.

warriors hit high numbers with 100 blades it’s the highest hitting skill in the game. the thing is it’s 3 seconds several classes will out dps 100 blades. this is btw a common trend with warriors.

kill shot 1 shot people yeah at max adrenaline and various other things being in place I won’t go into much detail. guess what else will 1 hit you fire grab from a ele. does aoe damage easy to get a burn on for a ele even easier then filling the adrenaline bar and has little to no tells. (does have a 40 second cd) which won’t matter if it 1 shots you.

seriously warrior is about half way on the dps ladder.

warriors being tanky.

I’ve been playing a bunker warrior lately I main a condition warrior about to go back.

guess what I melt to conditions. wait warriors are immune yeah for 8 seconds. cleansing ire. useless in a posion field or in a area with large condition aoe which can easily litter a pvp point. healing sig posion wrecks it worse then any other heal. hell lets compare that to what ele and engis have immunity!!!!!! at certain percentages of hp.

what I do see is warrior have easy to dodge attacks some of which have no where near enough pay off for the effort (looking at you final thrust). 9/10 warriors I play against are easily beat and guess what i’m counting the ungodly hambow build into this too.

I use 1 stun break / stable skill signet of the dolyak and hambow is a joke. I dodge the attacks and simply wreck them.

yes other classes do need buffs to bring their versitilty to that of warriors. no one should feel shoe horned into a class to play a role that you want.

Best Charr Armor Class?

in Charr

Posted by: wildfang.9670

wildfang.9670

Simply, what, in your opinion, is the best armor class for charr?

I say this because I’m trying to decide what profession I should choose for my new character, but I don’t want to repeat a profession I’ve done before.

And since I’ve already done Guard and Warr, I’m not sure whether I should go medium or light. But from what I’ve seen, medium is pretty ugly, at least compared to most of the PvP light armor.

So should I go medium, knowing that I really want a charr ranger, go light, because the armor (imo) looks better, or heavy and just roll another warrior?

with the exception of heavy tier 3 charr I like light t-3 the most.

however t-3 light has a horrible graphic glitch on the head piece but you can (probably will) hide it. if your going for a full armor look then I like the medium t3. (I think the cultural armors are easily the best looking armors in the game.

1 rangers needs work done
2 fix bugs in the necro (it’s skills for the most part are fine)
3 warrior could use some improvements to some skills. (warrior shouldn’t be a major issue but idk of a third one good one at least so to fill it up place holder)

final thrust is poor requires a lot for it to work and with too little reward. hits as hard as eviscerate if your opponent is at half hp but is MUCH harder to land due to the cast time and animations and range i’ts a horrible skill atm.

by comparision ele has fire grab which hits much harder and is a lot easier to land and easier to burn someone then to get them to half health.

that’s just one example.

People still defending warriors?

It’s easiest class to play in pvp by far, best survivability, amazing spike damage, amazing mobility. It towers above anything else.

I can’t believe I used to play one so much in pvp and thought I was pretty good at this game, this was before the buffs and healing signet changes.

The guy who just said he put out 23k damage and is whining…..you get to put out that sort of damage whilst still retaining 3k armour and 20k hp. An ele can’t even get close to achieving that sort of output, yet to even try would have 12k hp and 1850 armour, with 0 escapes and 0 defensive traits.

This is why there is an issue with warriors at the moment.

Issue? LOL. Yes Arenanet, please give Ele 3k armor and 20k health and see what kind of response you will get within 30 minutes after the change. I have a better idea, give Thief 3k armor and 20k health as well. People tend to grief after 1 vs 1 counter and class like thief is just too weak at it, they need a boost. Make sure you don’t nerf them while boost their armor and health otherwise they come back here and call us op again.

Tired of reading these kinds of post.

hey hey hey… lets not be unfair here… eles also needs 2s cd on F1-4 skills, and thief needs f2-f4 skills without cooldown and double the ini regen.

you forgot to mention they need perm vigor and maybe make it so they don’t unstealth after attacking.

yeah lets give the highest armor and highest health to the class with the most dps. I’m sure everyone will think that is balanced.

hell lets do the same for memsers too!

oh and yes it is by far the easiest class to play but guess what that was it’s designed intention.

Better gear choice? Dire or Rabid?

in Warrior

Posted by: wildfang.9670

wildfang.9670

Dire. The only benefit you get from rabid is a 3 sec bleed. Thats not worth 6k health. Not to mention with dire you get 30% crit chance, 40% with a sword, and 60% with fury.

Here is a sample of what you should aim for

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/external?l=http%3A%2F%2Fgw2skills.net%2Feditor%2F%3FfIMQNAT8cjkOpwFPCPMxBCkCsUlzjkMFyrUMH7A-j0BBINCy0CQUHBOTtIasVTFRjVJjIqWpETKAIWDA-w

3.4k armor, 25k health, 30% crit chance, and 2k condi dmg is such a beast. You can easily get bleed ticks of 3k+, and burn, and torment for 1k+

Don’t use missile Deflection in a Condition build. Cuz when you block a projectile in melee range with reposte it wont count as a block it counts as a reflect and thus it wont trigger the bleed on block which is the whole point of that skill besides the block part.

pretty sure riposte doesn’t work that way I’m quite confident that inorder to gain the bleeds it has to block a melee attack but it will block projectiles until i’ts time is up.

Looking for full regen warrior build

in Warrior

Posted by: wildfang.9670

wildfang.9670

Hey can anyone send me a full regeneration build so i can try and build my regen/damage build from that one please?
Thanks ^^

soliders amor (pvt) is the option I go with.

for the full regen effect go with 30 traits into tactics get inspireing battlestandard (applies long lasting regen on a whole group) healing sig is also a good idea.

for more dps go with banner of power OR battle standard both if you really want that dps (don’t think the regen stacks) (you can also carry your battle standard to gain swiftness so you don’t have to really rely to heavily on rage)

you’ll also want sig of healing if you truly want max regen.

that’s the basics.

now do you want more movement or more tank?

for more movent war horn would be best you can get the trait to change conditions into buffs which although I was never a big fan of the (cure 1 condition per skill) bit it’s a lot better then I used to give credit.

you get vigor for 13 seconds with a 15/16 (if traited) cast time and good source of group swiftness. this is good for those needed quick escapes if you would need to leave your battle standard or not using rage for any reason. (charge the skill that gives group swiftness also removes chill imbolie and cripple will still add 1 buff as well if traited)

for more defense go 10 into the defense line gain shield mastery which increases your toughness by 90 if you use a shield. shield comes with shield stances a 3 second block that is interruptible and shield bash a short leap that stuns foes for 1 second.

your runes should be either soliders/dolyak (vitality and toughness) or likely more preferred melandru which will it does not give vitality it’s bonus are nicer then either dolyak or soliders.

using banners on points gives you some lenicy with your choices which due to maximizing regen you will be using so.

you will gain either 170 power + condition or 170 toughness + vitality to name a few(I’m running a low dps high support bunker build atm so prefer power) with your regen. this is very good for on point moments while it’s true they can flee if their not in the center their a none issue.

banners have some inspiring banners which increases the radius of banners to 900 (600 by default it’s a 50% increase) as well as reducing their recharge time.

my personl bunker build that I worked on and tweaked (with some advice from the war fourms)

boils down to high regen meatsheild that is a pain to take down with some mobility. with that said if my banners are not up my dps is not that spectacular. with that said I can be a pain to take down between my 2 sigil of energy and bulk I usually try to preoccupy a fair part of a team 2/3 people trying to get them to waste time on taking me down) while my team caps. if my team is say fighting at center I just give them all the support I can via combustive shot + arching arrow + my banners. (ofc while doing as much damage as I can)

170 power 170 condition + 3 to 10 stacks of might on your team isn’t that bad.

final thrust buff

in Profession Balance

Posted by: wildfang.9670

wildfang.9670

I think anet should give final thrust either a lower cd period or a faster cast time because atm it’s kinda poor.

it’s damage is on par with a max adrenaline eviscerate so I won’t complain about that.

the issue is we have a move that is easily dodged happens at melee range requiring some form of cc in order to land on a 15 second cd. added on top that this dps is only viable at the 50% hp mark. it just feels like to many flaws to be a even decent skill.

I main a warrior but really never used power based sword until I decided to try out bunking it’s it horrid. sword is clearly meant to be a condition weapon but final thrust is just not worth it.

yeah you can land it with a bull charge or etc no doubt that’s not the issue.

the issue is it only works at 50% health to have it’s dps as well as a obvious and easy to avoid animation.

my thoughts would be a change to the animation making it easier to land.

Buff base hp of thieves and Eles

in Profession Balance

Posted by: wildfang.9670

wildfang.9670

As someone who mains a thief, I don’t agree. Looking at numbers alone, thiefs have a horribly low base health, that I understand. You have to remember that base health isn’t the only factor in survival though. Remember active defense such as dodging and stealth is our primary form of survival. Increasing health would only make thieves overpowered.

You recommend removing some evades, but why would I want to be like a warrior? If i want to rely on being a damage sponge, ill just switch to a warrior. On that note, I have successfully built into a bunker thief before, focusing on healing and dodging. All you need to do is switch your gear to vitality and your all set. There’s plenty of gear variability to address the lack of base health.

I have no idea about Eles. From an outsider looking in eles seem to be the weakest solo class and are only useful as supports. So maybe a health increase would help, but I can’t say either way since im not all that familiar with them

eles have the highest burst damage in the game and can burst / support with the same build because of their attunements. I don’t see a issue with giving eles a few lower cds but a higher base health would be a bad idea.

Better gear choice? Dire or Rabid?

in Warrior

Posted by: wildfang.9670

wildfang.9670

Going to WvW for some roaming. I got some extra money from sPvP.

So I got a question, Which one is better, Dire or Rabid for condition warrior?

dire is better then rabid esp with upcoming changes to crits.

carrion gives power which is more effeicent at dps then precision.

rabid will give you a higher crit chance so uses furious and our bleed traits better.

with that said only major benfit is the toughness rabid gives.

my 2 cents.

with that said wvw do not go zerker and for zerging use dire above all else for condtions.

roaming would probably be best with carrion gear mind you that not something I’ve done or had a chance to test.

honestly go with dire it gives you that extra bulk which is something our condition need to be effective and allows you the option to go into zerg vs zerg more effectively should you desire it.

I main a s/s lb warrior and am pretty good at it.

Sword Build?

in Warrior

Posted by: wildfang.9670

wildfang.9670

No because they moved all of swords physical damage to final thrust. Which in theory hits as hard as evicerate if it crits when the target is below 50% health. But the recharge is 15 seconds. While eviscerate is default 10 seconds. never the less evecerate doesn’t have a HP threash hold requirement and the Axe Auto attack chain does more damage than the sword auto attack chain.

So that makes sword not as viable as AXE for pve. Sword is a viable weapon for PVP though. Mainly because of the Leap, the Cripple and Immobilize.

exactly what warlord said although you can run a slight mix with the sword. rip hits for a decent chunk and final thrust can really hurt. with that said you should always run deep cuts with sword to boost it’s condition blade master will enable you to depend less on precision which can be good. since as warlord said it’s not exactly got enough dps to be a highlight.

it’s a bit of a hybrid weapon with a bit of both which is why I want to test it out with carrion gear.

dolyak runes

The rest honestly seem…underperforming, but this right here… No. Just no. Dolyak runes are trash. The bonus you get from 6 of them is a whooping 30 hp/s. You’re better off with something like Runes of Melandru.

only reason for mace was weakness and the shield + shield mastery. honestly I’m not sure about the toughness aspect loss with shield but yeah I switched to hammer to test out a few things.

as for the sigil of earth that’s my condition bow I never got around to changing their is a very good reason I said I need to tweak it some more.

Yeah this spec of yours is going to under perform, fortunately I have the answer.
10/0/30/30/0
Great Fortitude, shield mastery, cleansing ire, defy pain, inspiring banners, quick breathing, and healing banners. In that order, from top to bottom.

Full Melandru
Sword/Warhorn and Mace/Shield
Sword – Energy on Switch
Warhorn – Life
Mace – Energy on Switch
Shield – 15% paralyzation increase.

Run healing signet, banner of defense, balanced stance, doylak signet and Battle Standard.

tpvp – Soldiers Amulet with Clerics Gem
WvW – PVTgear

There ya go, you wont do any damage, but you will heal a kitten ton, revive faster, dodge roll a kitten ton to mitigate damage, provide buffs and condition cleansing for your team, be annoying as kitten with your ability to stun, snare, cripple and weaken players, and be an unstoppable stomp bot with all your stabilities.

Your spec —-
Spiked armor is useless because if anyone you are fighting is intelligent they wont focus you unless they have to.
Warhorn is stronger then empowered allies because it removes conditions and conditions suck, and your banner is already buffing anyways. Your team would appreciate the condition cleansing into boons much more than a small damage buff. Remember they can’t do damage if they are dead!
Bow I understand because you are lazy and like the easy condition cleanse with cleansing ire, and pin down is OP but you have no mobility. Sword, warhorn will allow you to stay on targets and keep them pinned down at MUCH longer then the bow will ever be able to do. You don’t have any damage either so the rest of your bow skills are useless. Final thrust on sword can still do ~3-5k damage in your bunker spec when used correctly. With only your mace and shield you will probably find yourself chasing down targets longer then you need to.

There ya go Enjoy
Source: I have been top 5 on the leaderboards in team queues for warrior bunkering.

PS: anyone has any questions let me know

who said anyting about being lazy and using ire for the cleanse.

I use it for the fire fields which I then can blast finish which will give (depending on what I use) 7 stacks of might (with battle standard) or 3 if I just use my aoe with bow.

with that said I do like the advice about the sword as well as aoe cleanse.

yeah actually that’s bow from my main set I just honestly figured I’d post what I had hence when I said (needs to be tweaked)

over all though does some pretty excellent

tested out hammer it’s a bit of a hard choice the goal is to change my typical play style up over all by changing my build.

hence this being a outline of my thought process as well as listening to any good advice people give.

so please carp try to take what I posted with a grain of salt ithought I made it clear in the end (seems most didn’t read it) the build isn’t finshed I’m still experimenting and switching things up.

with the goal being a warrior with high survivability and high point support.

for instance someone pointed out ire’s cleanse effect yeah it’s good but I prefer the adrenaline for my fire fields which I can blast finsh with bow battle standard or any banner I’m using.

autotargeting question

Posted by: wildfang.9670

wildfang.9670

I just heard that it’s not a good idea to use auto targeting in spvp could someone please elaborate.

I kinda use it mainly for ease of use while clicking targets that need to be hit specifically.

i.e. in a group of mesmers when I see one kiting I use my mouse to target that one.

for say a warrior though I use autotarget.

trying to improve my performance in spvp.

well I said it so i’ll eat my own words.

I wasn’t lying well not intentionally I would’ve swear it removed 2.seriously i always thought it did then did a quick wiki to check it out and came up to http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shake_It_Off naturally it had the mechanics i though it had as well as hadthe same name i never would imagined it was the rangers.

i accidentally mixed it up with the ranger version of shake it off on the wiki i really don’t have a excuse i should’ve known better.

:(

(yeah ik wiki’s aren’t the most credible of sources but it was quicker then logging on to my war look at his skills)

mix that with the fact i came to a skill with the exact same name and exact same effect i though it had had all along i think yo can see where my mistake came from.

in that regaurds I’m human X D.

I dont think cleansing ire is over the top. Remember for it to be 3 conditions it has to be full not 2.5. Secondly you said shake it off is 2 —--its only 1. If you removed 1-3 conditions every 10 seconds thats not out of line other professions can do the same.

The issue has nothing do do with sustainability and it has everything to do with warriors CC. If a warrior lands it it can be devastating. But then again really good players are somtimes very hard to land CC on. Most of the complaints come from people who either don’t avoid the CC or don’t have stun breaks or stability or a combination of the two.

On to the CC issue other professions necro with their fear spam, ele with their knock downs, engi with supply crate etc can all spam CC. And I have seen those other professions build very durably. Most of the complaints are from people who cant build or play. If it wasn’t warrior QQ threads it would be QQ thread on another professions section.

no shake it off removes 2 condtions for up to five players it was buffed.

although I did think that ire could have potential to be abused but honestly if other professions can spam cleanse like that every 10 seconds yeah it’s kinda hard to make a argument.

actually warlord this guy isn’t talking about the cc part which I’m kinda like you it’s not really that bad. he’s been saying that warriors have too much cleanse. i honestly figured that 3 condtions every 10 seconds may have been a bit over the top for a bulky profession but yeah if other professions are able to do it as well then it’s a non issue.

thank you for pointing that out

now with ire out of the picture they have to make up for cleanse some where else.

shake it off
sig of stamina
mend

each on the pick they will lose out on something very important.

ire no longer will keep you up.
posion fields are avaible across the game.
(engi theif even better necro auto attacks with posion on the 3rd strike of the aa chain for scepter)

all of this will be faster then what the war can cleanse it even at max cleanse.

sigil of doom applies 5 sec posion with a icd of 10 seconds considering the shortest cleanse is on a 25 second that’s not bad.

this build would likely still be tanky and would likely have to leave the disc trait line unable to rely on ire for most of it’s cleanse. this makes things rougher on healing sig. that hurts it’s sustain.

they may stay in for the addition cleanse but may not is 45 sec worth it. this is when the hard choices come to play.

they can specialize into condition removal but doing so will likely leave them op in other areas as they use their utls. obviously I can’t go into a build that does not exist yet.

would ire be op this way not really it’s one extra cleanse it’s among the worst of the warrior cleanses for that matter it gives a little extra bonus some will appreciate but has a much more difficult time justifying the condtion removal.

it’s wose then what the engi would have at -25% worse then what a ele has at over 90% guardians now also have better healing with a specific sig that cures a condtions every 10 seconds.

this is a grand master trait and since it was moved it had to be buffed in someway to accomidate so it would be a fair trade off.

hambow would still be a very real threat as it would likely warp forced to change it’s tactics still remain a threat but not nearly as vicious as it once was. it wouldn’t destroy it just put nice kitten in that armor.

just looked it up half the classes have access to posion fields.

the thing that makes warriors seem over the top is how they can benfit from hambow abusing ire.

to label a few weakness
mobility chill cripple. (immobile as well but can be traited)
healing sig two options each of which are fairly easy high and powerful burst damage or even better posion.

the issue that so many bring up is our cleanses which in all honesty discounting ire are not out of balance. they are by name.

mend (you’d be forced to heal early can’t use 2 heals)
shake it off (only does 2 unless you have solider runs maxed)
sig of stamina cures all conditions.

all of these have major trade offs mend I already mentioned.
shake it off discounting a very specific build will only remove 2 (in a aoe) but has a 25 sec time limit.

sig of stamina you will likely only use this one time during a fight.

k now because zerk stance is brought up I will clear the air of a few things regaurding this skill and warriors in general.

stances have a trend of a extremely powerful effect for a short period of time with a potent counter.

(endure pain cc or condtions)(defiant stances just don’t attack for 3 seconds conditions still heal for that short time balanced gives very short swiftness and stable has a decently long cd)

zerk stance also is much like this if your using power based dps zerk stance will do nothing more then be extra adrenaline which while appreciated is not worth the utl slot as it can be gained other where. it also has a very HUGE loop hole it much like the engi trait that makes you immune to conditons does not clear them.

if you pop it early you waste it pop it late your dead.

so should a warrior have all of these? yes actually keep in mind how limited warriors cleanse used to be shake it off and mend (used to heal only one barely worth mentioning)

warrior had to gain cleanses to survive in the front line because of the ease of which aoe condtions are applied. this forces warriors to make some tough decisions. i.e. I can have all those but no stable no damage mitigation from say endure pain. I can go tanky but my dps (for a warrior) will suffer for it.

warrior ranged options are decent but honestly not that spectacular if your a pure melee based warrior (as was mace sh / gs) build that stunlocked everyone (I was for the change to it)

would have a Extremely diffuclt time against someone who is kiting since you would in this case have 1 kinda reliable skill to gap close which is on a 25 sec cd you don’t want to waste it. add insult to injury if it’s a theif persay they could stealth scurry away and attack from range with short bow use their 3 skill which is a movement + cripple.

things like this pop up it’s definetly not unique to warriors. prior to being fixed engis could spam torment from the runes (although idk how much never did much roaming back then) although I heard stories of 25 stacks and ik anet is fixing a issue where engis could reliably place 1 minutes worth of posion on someone.

why does this seem so much worse because of what the partically abuse is it fixes several counters and unbalances this particular build. individually if these items were used they would be fine.

but when you curing 3 condtions every 7 – 10 seconds your tanky posion will not stick condtions eat through the other guy you got one hell of a fire field giving you the cleanse causeing constant damage and area of denial. all the while healing sig which normal is easily countred by poison has almost no real counters. (necros can burn terror burst but that’s all I’ve heard)

even with all this there is one more thing that adds to this perfect storm. point defense none of this would be much of a issue if it wasn’t for the fact you have to be near they guy this build lacks mobility with only come cc and 1 imboile it’s not really something to shout about.

but in those few instances (z vs z and spvp) I can see how someone could easily struggle with this build.

it’s a literal perfect storm with ire removing what is supposed to be a counter to what is being used down right ot game mechanics is what makes this build threatening.

here lies the problem the meat of the issue.

how do you fix ire. I have heard people say move it to grand master switch it with spiked armor great you just gave the guy perm retaliation basically (no cd on spiked amror and gain retaliation when hit by a crit never used but I’ve read about it)
.

add a icd to the trait kitten seconds or so on ire to gain the cleanse now it’s not spamable. the majority of thing that make hambow op now becomes pretty balanced.)

(one more ran out of room)

since you mentioned the spvp I have been working on a spvp title i’ll be honest and say that it doesn’t tend to take me more then 3/4 games in tournies on avg to get that daily done.

what your talking about with conditions and warriors is a major issue that arose because of other issues. namely the number of massive condition aoe there is. a warrior is worthless with out some cleanse. because of this saying a warrior should go back to have 1 cleanse is out right ubsurd. the issue is a simple fix which you seem to miss and I’ve mentioned it repeatedly put a icd on ire.

the issue is not the warrior class which so many people bend out of shape about it’s the ability to abuse one trait. it’s essientally perm stealth for a warrior which has draw backs. although I’ve yet to see a single one really use hambow on me I understand why it would be a frustrating build to go against I also understand how it would be a rather poor build by war standards.

to put it simply the only two instances hambow could be over effective is in zergs (not roaming wvw just zergs)

or point assault or defense. it lacks mobility but when you are in those spots having a char what will take ages to kill might as well not bother with conditions I can see it become a issue.

with that said that is not a reason to go.

why warriors need a nerf. that is not a reason to label the entire profession as op. many of the so called op things have existed from day 1 and still didn’t save the warrior from being worthless.

kill shot for instance I’ve seen people label as op even though by their own admittance they wasted their dodges and a projectile reflect and got 1 shotted on a squishy. I should also point out said class can just as easily 1 shot another class but the point being he got out played he lost he came and whined about it. a lot of warrior issues are nothing more then this.

you want to fix the ability to abuse condition cleanse (ire) it’s simple add a 45 second icd. a minor tweak. they use it once and that’s going to be it.

as far as our cleanse which is always one of the things brought up. removing it is a very bad idea. if a warrior has no condition cleanse in the current environment he will instantly be worthless in spvp and wvw. yes you can give him lyssa runes but even then asking for a profession to be able to do what it’s designed for if it uses a specific set of runes is a good way to limit that classes builds heavily.

all our other cleanses meet the critera of either a heal (you’d waste a vital part of your survivability) kinda weak with a rather long cd (shake it off) extremely strong but huge cd (sig of staminia will cure all don’t expect to use it 2x though) zerk stance is usually brought up .

the thing I am trying to explain is that what is making warrior seem op is that ire needs a tweak it’s fixing a loop hole that isn’t intended to be fixed. however a lot of warrior are going to be concerned with how they fix ire moving it to grandmaster alone will not do anything your just giving warriors perm retaltion from spiked armor or a new trait. while a lot of builds use the skill for simple adrenaline gain. not only making things better actually for this particular build but harder on those who do not abuse it. hell I wouldn’t really care much if the cleanse was removed utterly but that would be unfair to those who do use it for a cleanse. a 45 icd would be a fair simple fix it’s how they fix a lot of issues with warriors that creep up.

you agreed that power level density thank you for that.

with that said I don’t agree with you on population diversity. people shouldn’t have incentives to play another class unless they want to play that class and in gw2 lets be honest changing exp in favor is not going to do anything someone did reach max level in 2 days after all and I’ve done it in 2 weeks when I get serious.

atm warriors are in the same shape as engis in a lot of ways. they have things they can abuse that creep up from time to time that need to be fixed not a big deal. (ire covers warriors main weakness so it does seem a lot worse)

remove that CAREFULLY and suddenly the profession is pretty much in line with others.

the issue many fear is anet decide to hit nail with a sledge hammer and ruin the warrior. it is a valid fear even when ironically many would agree that some things need to be tweaked.

the issue is that way a lot of people and it could be wording but you give me this impression I apologize if I’m wrong. want a huge kitten hole in that armor.

you refered to less cleanse and refered to used too a lot will take this as implying the ability to remove 1 condition…if you waste your heal. which bombs lets be honest way gw2 is atm is a death sentence in wvw roaming or zerge or spvp.

(this will be in two parts to comment on what you said appropriately please take time to read it all as I did yours)

Current State of the Warrior

Warriors are significantly over powered at the moment. The key would be to make them, once again, extremely subject to condition damage with few ways to cleanse.

Remove the cleanse from cleansing ire. I only use it for the adrenaline gain anyway.

you too small world

imo wouldn’t it be better to place a icd on the cleanse while it would effect builds it would effect them much less warriors would still have some options with out the ability to abuse it.

Does Warrior need a nerf?

I think that one could equally say that you are blinded in the idea that there should be a class that is popular. In an sPvP environment, FOTM makes it not matter much. But in WvW, the issue is quite important.

I don’t think it is unrealistic to say that traditionally a game relies upon having a mix of all classes roughly in balance. This is why you often see the popular class being the one that is at best average. Imagine what SWTOR would look like if Jedis were actually the most powerful (It was a significant design discussion).

In all aspects of the game, you tend to seek balance (population, economy, etc). Class balance is no different. If you have too many warriors, you nerf warriors. If you can’t get enough people to play a certain class you buff it.

You don’t obliterate it because then you will have the problem of too few. But, you do indeed tone the class down. You never ever want to see a zerg where 2 classes represent 50ish percent of the toons.

bombsaway I remember reading a comment you made about you don’t see why engis are so unpopular. i’ll be frank if this is the case (starting to think it is after seeing this comment) then you will never be happy.

engis have innate flaws that hurt their popularity and until some (some will never be fixed) engis will never reach the popularity of warriors. short of making warriors unplayable (which would more likely cause a massive out cry for buffs) engis will never usurp the warrior.

engis use weapon kits which cover you back and legendary. engis sacks just look horrible nicked named hobo sack for a reason. gw2 is a fantasy mmorpg not a science one warrior mages and paldians will be more popular.

engi has a higher skill cap a new player will likely pick up a warrior play it learn it like it. hell I can play engi pretty well when I want too but I personally prefer how the warrior feels. many will agree with this they want to be in the fray melee swords in hand so to speak.

gw2 being a fantasy game will attract a larger auidience who think alongs the lines of warrior mage paladin or archer.

gw2 does not need nerfs classes need buffs you say that (buffing a class is no different then a nerf) this is incorrect allowing more options to use ones class increases options and build variety something the warrior has in spades. while it is true in the aspect that a class will do better in pve and pvp against you it’s not exactly the same.

buff cause power creep. power creep is by definition when newer content makes older content obsolete or significantly easier. power creep has been in gw2 since day 1. take a look at ac and how many 35s actually do our 35 and up dungeon buffs had nothing to do with it it was the game dynamics allowing lvl 80 armor to enter into a lvl 35 dungeon with the same stats. because of this they buffed the dungeon so it wasn’t such a breeze.

warriors had no part in either of these. you want a single solid answer to dealing with class a and class b for the most part it exists in some form or another with a few builds that abuse certain mechanics i.e. perm stealth thieves hambow warriors. both issues aer easy enough to fix and yet would not satisfy the peope who claim nerf nerf since at best they are tweaks.

this however misses a core point. when a class is under performing the only way to fix it via nerf is to nerf everyone. nerfing creates as many problems as buffing the only difference is that nerfing a large group vs buffing a select few is various aspects of the game become frustrating unless nerfed.

warrior does need tweaks in some areas so does other classes but that’s not the topic here.

imo by your own logic that popular = op then power creep does not exist in the way you think it is.

you claim that buffing classes would cause power creep yet if everyone plays warrior because it’s op then people would only spread out. your statements are somewhat contradictory.

include a icd into cleansing ire 40 45 seconds will fix ire so the warrior can not spam condition cleanse every 10 seconds. from that point a large part of the warrior will balance out. my opinion regarding healing sig is on a whole other thread.

our health ok we got a big health pool we also only get endure pain zerk stance shield stance as damage mitigation. no protection not aegishave to heavily invest in defense to get any access to retaliation. we get 1 blind 1 measly blind and that’s on a 15 second cd. this is ofc not counting specific weapons needed to mitigate damage. (which is a pretty dam poor excuse if your going to tell me use a shield or sword to block)

by comparison

guardians has line of warding great protection up time blinds wall of reflections (use this on a kill shot warrior and see how op kill shot really is) loads of conditions cleanses

thieves evades mobility unlike a warrior they can tele port kind less preditctable and not affected by cripples chill blinds and lets not forget what they do best stealth. (not to mention spam)

necros 2 life bars for a max of 170% of their lp. they have access to more protection then a warrior and are notorious for their conditions.

engi
spamable water fields + regen. I literally was at clove hooven pass and kepts a necros minions alive ALL OF THEM . through a 5 minute event. these are weak fragle creatures tht do not heal. if a engi is going to support you can bet it’s going to be nasty with access to spamable water posion fire smoke and light fields and spammable blast finshers. which is aoe heal aoe might aoe stealth aoe cleanse aoe weakness. engis have insane potential to keep condtions on a opponent.

ele has access to various defensive skills via its attunements

memser stealth clones headache irl not really a better form of mitigation then confusing you opponent.

lets not forget healing sig I’m tired of seeing omg op healing sig. with the a side potential to abused cleansing ire the sigs not all many make it up to be. seriously keep posion up and just demolish them. their heal is their passive!.

movement I see this along with warrior shouldn’t out dps gaurds.

this is bull it’s obvious warriors are more dps oriented gaurds are more support oriented. is warriors dps too high well if so then fine nerf it but they will nerf the guards and such in line with it for the sake of balance.

just to post a specific comment made by a lead designer of anet.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/balance/Merged-PvP-Warrior-Healing-Signet-is-Too-Powerful/page/2

go to page 2 where jonpeter himself says they will only tweak the heal after they make the active worth using. I’d almost wager that once healing sigs tweaks are done then healing sig will still be called op.

as far as war banner is concerned bombs it’s fine you res 5 people not exactly a warrior only ability. although it is a elite so it is stronger. give 4 stacks of might furry and swiftness while in the radius of the banner. people (including you to a point) are making mountains over mole hills.

you are obviously stuck in the idea of other mmos form of balance gw2 is not other mmorpgs infact gw2 has done away with many things that are in other mmos. the balance in gw2 works very differently then your typical mmo which obviously from all your comments your so dead set on comparing gw2s balance too. sadly if you are so deadest on warriors reciving some sort of major nerf to their armor sustain hp or damage your going to be greatly disappointed.

forget sig healing surge heals way more and is easier to use to it’s fullest. same for mend the skill which I personally use. are we realy going to have to deal with this while people grasp for straws for the sole intent of maliciously ruining the warrior profession?

Why Warriors Need a Nerf

in Warrior

Posted by: wildfang.9670

wildfang.9670

I believe the greatest mistake was when ANEt went too far in giving warriors the ability to deal with conditions. (Initially, conditions just chewed thru a warrior).

I would significantly nerf their ability to avoid condition damage. That would be a fair weakness.

NO!!!

the issue with the warrior is one that is easy to fix the main issue lies with cleansing ire and the ability to easily abuse it. this is not something that is a warrior only issue. engi’s have had a lot of issues such as these fixed already and getting another one fixed in this patch.

(shotguning allowing for 1 min posion)

the only thing that need to be done would be to give ire a icd for the cleanse that is the ONLY thing that will fix what so many are throwing a fit out. with that said I have yet to run into a warrior abusing this skill and I’ve been doing loads of tourneys ran into a team of hammer wars and my team just trampled them so bad that the ranger on my said he was more op then them (responding to a comment I made)

warriors are a pretty balanced class over all yes they will be tweaks yes they are ways to abuse the profession but lest we forget the upcoming nerf to engis posion and perm stealth thieves. even then the war I’m talking would only be a issue in pvp at point defense and zergs in wvw. (poor roamer though)

I’ve seen suggestions that either make the issue WORSE or just ignore it so I’m going to give my piece. moving ire to grandmaster will not work infact it will make it worse. what happens when you give a warrior like that spiked armor you make it a hell of a lot harder on you.

the access to cleanse is perfectly fine as is and in all honesty will likely see no major changes.

your suggestion is typical of someone who does not know what a warrior job is nor what anet has done. profession skills are meant to make them better at doing their job they condition heavy environment means warriors need extra cleanse. why does a engi not have stable i’ll ask you this why do they need it. a good engi does not stand still it does not face tank you chug nades at 1500 inflict insane condtions or use your combo fields which you can oh so easily spam to support you allies you should not be up close and personal with a engi same with a necro.

ele has the highest skill cap and burst in the game with moves such as flame grab being OHKOs to squishy chars and with no warning mind you. to make up for this they got a lower health pool and huge cds.

zerk stance well how about we look at eles who got a trait that makes them immune to conditons at over 90% health.

gaurdians have lower dps and are worse bunkers.

bs

warriors for the most part only have their health and regain to counter dps they literally tank everything.

some people thnk saying we don’t have stealth clones etc are being kittenes or sarcastic BUT THEY ARE RIGHT warriors class mechanic is 1 skill per weapon set some of which are not worth using.

kill shot hts for 17k …it’s a 2 second cast time obvious easy to counter if it catches a squishy off guard well anything catching you off guard is going to be deadly you didn’t pay atten you paid for it. I’m sorry if you die to kill shot but a skill shouldn’t be nerfed just cause you didn’t pay attention esp if A. skill is a class mechanic B. has a 2 sec cast time is obvious as hell.

zerk stance really is op? ok when I first leanred about it it wrecked me I’m a condition warrior now just kite dodge move for 8 seconds then just kill. it doesn’t remove conditions just stops new ones from being applied and even then only TO A POINT.

I got side swipped by a war in a tourney and he massacred me because I didn’t see him come from behind. guess what I ran back found him eventually and slaughtered him.

Struggling Mesmer

Hello everyone,
I seem to be struggling as a mesmer. Been playing GW2 for about a month now, I have a level 80 mesmer as my first char currently running a 10/20/0/25/15 phantasm build all zerk gear. I currently only PVE, I haven’t even bothered to PVP as I know I would get owned. For the most part I’m okay at open world PVE, a little squishy here and there and struggle a bit with larger mobs with the lack of AoE. I’ve done 1 or 2 dungeons & low level fractals but I feel like I’m always slowing the group down because of my lack of skill at playing Mesmer. Maybe it’s just my lack of knowledge since I’m a new player, but I feel like I’m just lacking in overall skill. I’ve seen videos of other mesmer players so I know the potential of the class. I’m not really sure how anyone can really help me with my Mesmer skills cause that’s up to my own skill level, but any tips on how to be more proficient would be great! Perhaps I just need to play more and develop those skills over time or maybe Mesmer just isn’t the right profession for me and I just suck. Sorry if this is pretty vague, I don’t really know a specific area where I need help it’s more just overall improvement. Again any tips on getting better would be great! Thanks!

try pvp out

the trick to using a Mesmer is to confuse you opponent and I’m not talking in gw2.

use stealth and clones to your advantage to distract foes. try to always keep in a place where you are at a advantage. i’ll be honest I’ve saw some pretty clever mesmers. i’ll stand around trying to figure where who is just to find that they’ve gotten the high ground.

if someone doesn’t know how to fight a Mesmer you’ll probably have a fairly easy win as you’ll move to safety as he attacks your clones in a furious rage.

if you see someone not taking the bait so to speak he will likely know which you are as soon as he spots you ik I do anyway. to counter this you’ll want to try to put some distance between the two of you or use some clever trick using the terrain.

with that said NOTHING is more infuriating then accidentally wasting a skill on a clone. I will say that from personal experience.

asking here for tips is very good but also don’t shy away from spvp. I learned more in 2 days of dueling then I did in 8 months of wvw zerging. spvp can be very fun but in all honesty it’s a team sport which can make learning at times diffuclt as people either carry you or you get demolished prior to really doing anything. for that main reason I suggest dueling.

with that said if you do lose keep in mind it is not always your fault they are a lot of things that go into winning other then what you do. coordination experience build are just a few. if you lose at spvp get up dust your self off then do it again. one thing to keep in mind do not think of some generic formula to fight professions you’ll want to try to learn and use the various professions weaknesses against them.

allow for healing in short bursts like with the passive but more along the lines of.

700-800 a second for around if you are keeping both cast time and the cd I think it should work for around 8 seconds giving it 5.6k – 6.4k.

not going be ground breaking it’s only slightly stronger then mend with out the condtion removal effect it’s still got the same weaknesses and reasons so many wars like it already.

while many will whine it’s op it’s not really. still will heal less then surge unlike surge it’s healing over time so it’s more susceptible to counter play making it much more risky to use in the first place. risk must always = reward so the heal must be strong in comparison.

doing it this way has the advantages of maintain why so many like it as it is. maintains it’s balance as it’s counters still work excellent against it. over all maintain it’s same pro’s / cons.

this will be on if it goes as now a 25 max cd with a 16 min cd. which means you will heal roughly 1/2 the time. you’ll heal a lot in that short time but once it’s gone your going to be in a rough spot.

if your poisoned in that time the heal drops to around 4k which once again for a heal that takes so long is pathetic. easily out damage by virtually any build.

rangers are in a bad spot in general atm from what I hear and honestly they deserve a few buffs.

with that said I have not played a ranger so no comment on that.

just going to point this out;
Warrior in 1 v 1 is rubbish.

Why?

You lack evades, blinds, stealth, condition builds (dont make me laugh, the bow is horrible as a condi weapon and easily evaded/countered by anything out there), and last but not least, warriors have possibly the second largest amount of unskilled players after rangers. The average warrior is horrible, however since in a WvW/PvE setting, all a warrior need to do is follow the commander, facetank the enemy and press 111111 F1 111111 F1 1111111 F1 1111111 and possibly, you have to activate zerker stance somewhere along the lines.

Realize one thing, your profession as a whole was not designed to be an efficient 1v1 profession. That role was granted the medium and light armor professions.
Thieves, Engies, Rangers, Mesmers and Ele’s will all outperform you in the 1v1 section, while you will outperform them in the ZvZ section of the game.
It may sound a bit old fashioned and chauvinistic but seriously, know your place son.

idk about this statement speaking frankly I do great in 1v1 and in groups even against skilled thieves I’ve not really had issues holding my own. mesmers or eles for that matter as well. that’s not to say I win all my fights but I win enough that I feel comfindent in my 1v1 ability.

on the other hand a lot of the warriors I run into I tend to just trample to the point I think their some of my easiest kills. :/

I don’t oppose that warriors need some changes to some of their abilities and what not but what people suggest sometimes is just flat out ridiculous. Like nerfing healing signet to 200-250 HP/S.

You mean back to what it was when it was useless and adrenaline surge was the only heal you’d ever use on a warrior?

If anything this patch is just going to prove that healing signet was/is not the problem with warriors and that cleansing ire is just stupidly strong for a 20 point trait and it’ll get moved to grand master.

No, if you had understood the context and what I actually wrote in my post. I said “changes” which can mean either tone something down or bring something up to par. In this case I meant both. Because whether people acknowledge it or not, and I think the devs have realized it, is that the Warriors despite being fotm are in a fragile position where one huge nerf can totally derail the class.

one huge nerf wouldnt derail it. Many medium ones will.

If cleansing ire, dogged march and adrenal health get hit simultaneously the warrior will be in a very bad spot. If they also messed with the stances, you’d be screwd.

oh and what nerfs you may get, will forever be peanuts compared to what thieves and rangers get each patch for the sake of sPvP…. god bless esports, killing the game since day 1.

i got to admit to a point that frightens me although I do have work arounds planed if that should ever happen.

idc about ire cleansing I just want the bonus ad. dogged march never really used it so no real comment. with all that said I love the stances and honestly I run a lot of them from time to time. I could work around it but I’d honestly prefer not too.

imo why do people care about adrenal health great you get what 200 health a second? ik it’s actually higher but over 3 seconds kinda makes no sense.

ire being moved would annoy me I want the extra ad and I don’t want forced into def just to get a bonus. I’d probably go for zerker’s might and alter my current build to compensate.

to clarify something I’d rather ire lose it’s cleanse rather then being moved to grand master forcing me to max out grandmaster for a little extra ad after all they are many ways around this.

So warriors don’t have the best damage? Shocker.

No seriously, welcome to warrior. You will love it. And that’s from somebody who started with mesmer also. Warrior feels more… easymode.

Fixed.

Trolling much?

Naw, he’s just sick of getting kicked on a bearbow.

Not really, HamBows aren’t a problem for my Lockdown Mesmer.

I just find it hilarious that someone is going from a Blackwater Mesmer (which is the cheesy easymode spec for Mesmers) to a HamBow Warrior (which is the cheesy easymode spec for GW2 in general).

Easymode much?

<insert something witty here>

welcome to the warrior profession (kina late but better now then never lol) try to ignore the trolls and general non sense that does tend to show up on the warrior fourms although if you do have a question feel free to ask.
