Siege Troll Discussion

I like the exhaustion idea although it doesn’t seem like it would be good for “used” siege. We toss down catas/rams/(golems when planning impromptu rush) and exhaustion would be a hindrance on those siege. I would say place the exhaustion on the main troll siege “Ballista’s”. I have rarely seen any troll on any server use anything other than ballista’s. They are pretty much useless as a siege with the LoS and rate of fire that you can buy them for pennies. In the several seasons and time before that I’ve only seen it as a single drop counter siege(so exhaustion shouldn’t be a problem.)

I also like the Idea of commander tag required for siege placement without exhaustion but everyone and their dog has a tag now… maybe the next line of wvw point upgrade should be for commanders and X amount points placed will allow said commander to place siege without exhaustion when having a commander tag active). Heck you could even add other useful things for commander in that way since they typically have the points available for it and you can distinguish between veterans and non-vets to wvw.

30%dmg to phantasms, fury to phantasms, regen to group from phantasms, Phantasms recharge 20% faster and your phantasms are ranged so they tend to survive longer. Your heal cures condi and heals you for 27002600(and 2600 to members around you). Recharging the mantra doesn’t matter much since phantasms are doing large part of dmg anyway. Also +3%dmg per active illusion and GS has +5%dmg so your GS spam from safe range is hitting hard as well.

If you come to a boss where reflect is needed swap out pistol for a focus and change trait from restorative mantra to focus trait for reflect on skills.

Thats what I run for PVE and haven’t had problems. (if you find your phantasms dying put in signet or swap restorative mantra for +20health.. or both it’s flexible)

PS the trait bar I usually have blink/decoy and 3rd is feedback/null when in pve i only have veil on there cause i use it and wvw along with portal also i swp in time warp instead of invis for the elite.

[WvW/PvP] Phantasmal Mantras

Something like this if you want to play the support role for group but have paper phantasm that’ll do dmg but not last long. GS due to short CD’s and the S/F for no real reason other than auto hits more than 1 target, #2 invlun #4 slow/interrupt and #5 just for a quick dying buffer for group(don’t imagine it surviving long). 3 mantra’s should be plenty of healing with restorative mantra’s 2600 heals x 9(regen from phantasms as well), healing removes condi from ya and buffs party with 3xmight n fury and NF because who doesn’t like some NF? or feedback whichever ya fancy. I didn’t put thought into the gear as its what I use on different build i just figured 20k health 3300attack and phantasms with 60%+ crit should be alright for a support build.

I don’t gvg or zerg surf(unless on warrior/guard). I use my mesmers for roaming… BUT if I were to go gvg/zerg i’d prolly do something like this or a shatter confusion build(just there’s too much condi removal/reduction out there).. I imagine it would work well for roaming/camp taking group as well.

Retaliation eats nades and the dmg from them is so minimal even if you are a glass cannon. No blast finisher on kit, condi’s are so minimal with the yawn like speed of nades being easily avoidable. The range is about the only thing the kit has going for it imo(even with the wonky arc when thrown). I put it on my bar to feel speshul seeing the 200dmg a nade does and the very slight chance to see a condition applied only to be removed instantly by a large abundance condi removal in groups. Oh yeah and for all the qq you’ll see about no auto attack which causes your finger to go into a coma.

Infact I counter with lets buff nades!

@mikelevins I run a full apothecary setup on my 2nd mesmer which I really enjoy playing because its just such a troll build 1vX. Only issue I have with it is like most condi mesmer builds is can’t catchup to runners so if the condi doesn’t finish them they stalemate by running away. So many invis that I rarely shatter my clones unless i’ve getting burst down and I tend to position myself on/near clones so they get killed and apply more conditions. I tried to find op to give credit but it’s buried on forum. All the traits are setup just right for reducing CD on all weapon skills not just summoning. When clones die they apply 2 condi’s(cripple+random) & sigil geo+doom are meant to add more condi to the stack so it helps to overwhelm builds with good condi removal. Torch skills remove condi’s(not enough condi removal and you can find yourself having problems vs a condi engi). The runes can be swapped out for scavenger if you want more healing, i kept undead for the 5% touchgness → condi which stacks well with chaotic transference which is same and having 2k toughness.

I’ve tried out oscicat’s condi build with full rabids and didn’t much care for it compared to this build. For my playstyle preference I found his build squishy(i hear bw build is same) in comparison. I know perplex is OP but I play that on my engi and it feels more controlled and you have more interrupt options(even felt more comfortable with them on ranger than mesmer). 1v1 build was alright 1vX I found myself wanting my other build a lot lol.

Only a few small changes while I played your build and enjoyed it.

1. Dire armor&weapons > apothecary more hp+condi and don’t lose much healing as mantra&regen doesn’t scale very well with it anyway.(that sounds nice and thought out.. but to be honest I just happened to have the dire gear in bank lol)
2. Ascended settlers backpiece(again was just sitting in bank)
3. Arcane thievery > null field. Seemed 36s cd is better than a kitten cd and with lack of dazzling glamours null field wasn’t blinding anymore in build. (When I wasn’t expecting to be vs condi in duel I put domination on as per other posters suggestion).
4. Sigils Staff geomancy, corruption & doom.
5. Food to 40% duration condi.
1921 condition dmg with stacks and no might(heh replace doom with battle/bursting and break 2k if you like). 19.8k health.

I have to agree stomping with a necro is annoying and typically find myself having to dps them down which takes longer. I also agree on the point we seem a little weak with our downed skill but i’d prefer the ability to stomp more.

Is the build the armor/trinks are guesstimates based on what i’ve rolled before(backpack ascent karka). The runes I’ll take a guess are altruismx6(I used 4) waterx2. Sigils energy/corruption with a 3rd of bursting or something.

After rewatching I believe I was wrong. His trink looks more like full apothecary and the sigil of corruption is sigil of life and swapped out to a third with agony or something.

Warrior Banners vs other classes

Warrior banners don’t have a HP bar like all the other listed basically our added bonus is our banners are invulnerable and can be used in zergs without them melting like ranger spirits/engi turrets/guardian weapons/ necro minions.

If Anet puts a HP pool on the banners which are as low as the spirit/turret/weapon pools then start complaining for secondary effects.

imo banners are fine as they are.

How is this 6% applied?

Is it applied on calculated damage?
eg; (0.05 * 1000) + 42.5 = 93(rounded up) x 1.06 = 98.59 damage per tick(Would be rounded to 99)

or

Added on condition total before calculation?
eg; 1000 × 1.06 = 1060
(0.05 * 1060) + 42.5 = 96(rounded up) damage per tick

1. I don’t see why sigil of earth is redundant because of 10 in DM, but yeah… hydromancy>earth.

2. If you max your kill stacks, get a second off hand dagger with a different sigil.

3. Hemophilia is weak sauce in WvW. I’m surprised you don’t run Terror already, so take that instead.

4. You have Signet Mastery because of one single signet, and Spectral Mastery because of one spectral skill: not worth it!
I’d go Reaper’s Might (or Spiteful Spirit) and Path of Midnight instead.

5. If you already have 10 in Soul Reaping, you might want to consider adding another 5 points for Last Gasp because that trait is baws. Maybe even 20 for any of the master tier traits in that line. Unless you really want to have Staff Mastery, that is.

6. Get some carrion pieces. Mixing vitality with toughness is more effective than going with just one of them. This will also increase your direct damage.

7. Get Perplexity runes. They are basically undead runes with some free confusion.
If you do that: either pick up Spectral Grasp and/or the warhorn (for the 6th bonus interrupt), or just buy 5x Perplexity and 1 Crest of the Rabid.

8. Plague is fine if you play in groups, but if you are solo roaming: always take the golem.

9. In light of the fact that you want to fight 1vX, your other utilities should be a lot more aoe heavy. I’m not saying your utilities are bad, but mix them up with Epidemic, some wells or Spectral Wall. And most importantly: change them on the fly, different situations in WvW require different skills. Adept to a fight by changing skills before going into combat.

10. Practice 1v1s. Seek out strong opponents and challenge them to duels. The better you are doing against single players, the better you will be against many.
This sounds like something Captain Obvious would say, but it’s a little more true for the necro than for other classes. You don’t have invulnerability skills or stealth, so not only do you need to facetank everything that comes at you, but your timing becomes increasingly more important against multiple opponents if you want to stand a chance at surviving. And timing is something you can perfect in 1v1s.

Are there any power/crit well necro’s out there who roam?

Yes, there are.
If you’re roaming, a condi build is probably easier to pull off as a new or casual necro player though.

My original build I’m sure I over focused on my raising my condi dmg as much as possible and self buffing to 2431. I did swap out to a battle sigil and have a 3rd weapon with bursting(+6%condi dmg) on it when I get 25 stacks.

I’m looking for some help with a roaming 1vX build if there is such a thing for necro I currently run a condi build but wondering if there is something better out there as I’ve not had the best of luck. (Albeit I don’t play on my necro as often as I should to truly be good at the class)

1v1 I find I don’t do too badly but find myself running into issues when it becomes a 1v2+. I roam on engi/mesmer/warr and I just can’t seem to compete with them in terms of survivability 1vX.

Hey for an update we’re stalled on the decision to move now that we’ve learned we’d lose our Guild upgrade(T6). It would be a very tough pill to swallow to start everything over from new again. This seems to be the hurdle which is holding us back from transfering.

Does anyone have a link to calculator or know the gold cost for upgrading guild to T4/T5?

- This is what I was originally looking at in my other tab from lastnight brainstorming. Sitting back and looking at it thus morning 1. It’s a step above glass build in survivability 2. Looks more like focused on roaming with group play as a after thought. 3. Very close to what was posted when i forgot to hit “post” lol although in his build I see a sword instead of mace which makes sense for having a disengage.

LF: WvW Hammer build

I’m looking for a warrior build for WvW group vs group/zerg. I’ve tried defectives build and find it doesn’t bring the CC and is best for small skirmish 1v1 etc. I’ve done the GS|Sw/Wh and again its so glassy for group but find it best for the 1v1/roam.

I’m looking to be able to do some dmg yet be tanky enough to survive our encounters vs zerg(we usually fight vs 2-3x our numbers). Some condition removal would be nice but doesn’t have to be over the top as its group fight we have condi removal. As for gear make a suggestion as I’ve so many tokens/badges I can buy several full sets.

I’ve went back a few pages and haven’t really seen any Hammer builds so figured I’d ask

[BUILD] Condition build for roaming WvW

That video was pretty impressive. Clearly you’re a skilled player. I do wonder about the points in Inspiration though. Currently you get +200 condition damage when in scepter and 18s off the Veil CD. With Rabid gear and 20 pts in Dueling you get several things.

First of all, you get 100% uptime on Vigor. That will allow you to dodge twice and much, which arguably increases your survivability far more over the course of a fight than extra healing power and 200 vitality. Also, you would get to pick up Far-Reaching Manipulations or Desperate Decoy for more survivability.

Second, Sharper Images would be a huge DPS boost. I know that you say you need to sustain, and I think that is true for any condition mesmer. However, do keep in mind that the more quickly you can kill enemies, the less damage you will have to worry about coming in.

Finally, Deceptive Evasion seems like it could benefit you. You have both Crippling and Debilitating Dissipation. Having more clones popping out means that you get more cripple, weakness, and bleeding spread across the packs of people chasing you. Also, it works very well with Sharper Images.

I’m not suggesting that your build is wrong or that you should listen to my suggestions. I’d just genuinely like to know what you think about what I’ve said above and explain in more detail why you chose Inspiration over Dueling.

I find it hard to not go 20 in inspiration because of the lack of condition gear with vitality the added bonus of healing and scepter cds make it too good for me to pass up.

As far as desperate decoy goes I personally can’t stand the ability I prefer on use skills over a proc that can get me stuck in revealed when I am under 25%.

Deceptive evasion is another skill that looks really good on paper but when I have tried it with a stealth build I have always found it more annoying than anything. If you notice in my video I use dodge rolls a lot while stealthed to create distances or gap close to my enemies and the clone on dodge gives your position away.

Those are both just personal preferences but I really haven’t found any issues with my damage being too low so far.

Talkhora gear is Vit-heal-condi, if you were looking for more condition gear with vitality and has minor healing for your survivability, you can use settlers trinks to boost your toughness if that’s your prerogative as well.

The Server we’re currently on is SBI, while it has a good community for PVE it’s unfortunately a terrible environment for WvW. The server has 2-3 WvW guilds at most and I believe we’re the only ones who constantly have 10-35 players in a map. We like to play coordinated fights vs superior numbers and winning by skill, group makeup and tactics. We usually play on opponents borderlands for(6-8hrs)during our wvw nights and on our off days usually 10-15man EB for daily and move where server needs us.

We’d like to avoid T1 as we’ve been there done that for a long time on release when SBI was in that bracket forever. We’re trying to avoid HUGE zergs but we know its inevitable so we do expect zergs just prefer not being forced to play as one.

- Servers with a community Teamspeak/mumble are a bonus and we’d have representatives in it even though we typically use our Mumble as our main Voice comm.
- Servers that have some tpvp presence would be a bonus as well(Not expecting AR but definitely more than the SBI wasteland with no players in it). We do have a tpvp team and would be setting up a Guild vs Guild custom for server(We like to scrim to improve and hope that would be welcome).

- In the past on SBI we’ve run/participate in weekly teaching for pve pug players to teach how to play in wvw. Do’s/Do nots of siege placement, importantance of siege to make choke points/killzones, Importance of havoc groups and choking supply, importance of keeping an eye on timer when capping so you get guaranteed pts if you don’t plan to defend asset etc. Typical kitten but surprisingly most of the pugs needed to learn it.

- We are T6 and happily invite people from smaller guilds to join us for guild missions so everyone has opportunity to get commendations. We run this twice weekly to accommodate east/west time zones.

Hey all,

I’m looking for a new server for myself and guildmates. We’re a WvW focused guild and looking for a server with a good wvw presence and has oceanic/asian timezone coverage(Tired of losing everything overnight).

We play during NA primetime 4-12pm central, So we’d like to find a home in which we’d help make a difference and not just add to a zergfest. Currently during our wvw nights we bring 30+ members and on our off days we’re usually 15+

Reasons for us wanting to leave current server.
- Server is full of 1-4man PVE guilds who make up a completely unorganized zerg.(We’re one of maybe 2 guilds who are WvW focused who bring 30+)
- Server has a very negative attitude which believes you can’t win unless you outnumber the enemy. (Our guild thrives on fighting superior numbers)
- Current group of commanders in wvw are karma farmers who don’t care about wvw score(It’s a PVE server), So they happily trade T3 assets for paper assets.

I went a similar route.. went 4x altruism + 2x fire. This way i get might from healing which you do on CD anyway and I replace the Elixir S with toolkit since the elixir S nerf i just prefer having a block with some other utilities. No point in having + condi duration on gear unless you plan to hit 100% duration.

You can swap out the 10 in explosives for whatever cripple @ 25% etc and then put on rocket boots for stun break or FT for burning bullets etc all depends which you prefer but you are pretty difficult to kill but can definitely put some hurt on people with condi’s all the while healing your team as well.

duels ruin PvE, plain and simple.
why you ask, it’s suppose to be a world where everyone works together to stop the evil in the world, not to kill your fellow man because (s)he looks weird at you.
further more, duel invites are the top of annoyance, if there is one thing that ruins the true PvE experience then it’s duel invites.

oh and in case you’re wondering, it’s player verses environment, not player verses player.
if you want to play PvP, go to the PvP places but stop ruining PvE for ppl like me who like to enjoy a PvP-less game.

The formula for retaliation seems solid as of right now at first glance to most, until you see one thing in open combat. As of right now the formula for it is the following, with the power based on whatever gave the person retaliation.
198.45 + (0.075 * Power)
While the flaw isn’t immediate, the following should tell you where the flaw lies. Last night I wakittenting a guardian who had retaliation on. I was taking 394 damage with each hit when the hits I were dishing to said guardian with a longbow were only 280 damage.
Anybody else see the problem here? It’s that the retaliation damage can OUTDO the damage you’re inflicting to the opponent, and stays at that amount regardless of whether or not you burst them down or not. This is the main problem with retaliation, that it’s not a set percentage of damage YOU do, making it somewhat overpowered against players who have low attack, and underpowered against those with high attack.
I say make it so that you’re taking anywhere from 25% to 50% of the damage you dealt to them back at you (I’m leaning towards 33%). This can be considered a nerf and a buff to it at the same time. Condition users like myself need not worry about shooting ourselves down by getting hit with more than we’re hitting for, while at the same time making it a worry for somebody who is a glass cannon, like a thief, who pulls off a 8-9K damage burst.

I read ryu’s post in hunter forum and felt it should be here as well.

I run a guardian and find it funny how many of those low hitting people die from my 100% uptime retaliation. I literally hit like a little girl when I swing my sword but my healing power/toughness keep my well above 75% health against most players. I simply just run in circles and dodge heal while watching people kill themselves. This skill is so strong and there are so few classes that can strip boons.

  • Thief(which i’ve never ran into one who uses it).. which if he does strip it who cares? Not like I’m hitting him anyway lol.
  • Mesmer Null field & Arcane thievery which are on kitten CD(null rarely used since confusion nerf and arcane is to long of a CD to be useful), Mindstab which is difficult to land and requires GS or mind spike 3rd attack with sword.. which if you are in melee range with a mesmer you aren’t auto attacking but more hitting frenzy or blinking away.
  • Necro although i don’t see many x/focus well builds but still not hard to avoid the big circle on ground and focus skill on 20s cd.
    Infact most boon stripping is on a long cooldown vs my ability to reapply retaliation

Bread n butter skills

  • 16s CD on 11s retaliation – (SoW+ LoF combo)
  • 24s CD on 9 1/4s(aoe) retaliation – Stand your ground
  • 48s CD on 18 1/2s retaliation – save yourselves shout

Situational in slim chance the above isn’t cutting it.

  • 30s CD on 9 1/2s retaliation – Zealot speed(SoW + LoF combo)
  • ~CD on 9 1/2s retaliation Staff SoF/LoW -> swap to greatsword -> LoF
  • Forgot about Virtue of retribution which applies retaliation when you use a virtue
    20% boon duration from food wasn’t added to these times.
    Not to mention the aoe combo’s you get from blast finishers from anyone around. It’s just such an easy to apply buff with incredible duration times.

Hopefully Anet can balance this boon in the future by changing damage to be based off % of incoming dmg and/or retouching on the duration of the boon.

I agree currently retaliation is currently OP. They could do the coding different like mentioned in this thread or even move it from being a “boon” so boon duration won’t be keeping it at 100% uptime on people(Much like stealth isn’t a boon).

I have never noticed how incredibly powerful retaliation was before.. With the 100% uptimes people have its actually rather ridiculous and much worse than confusion ever was imo.
Confusion was easily cleansed by yourself or people around you & -duration vs Retaliation which guardians have up 100% of time and then can buff everyone around them and not every class can strip a boon(no defense).

I have to agree I really dislike this change and see it as being rather unnecessary. If anything they should have just found a way to prevent the free portaling in tkitten puzzle. Now with this change you rarely see people go into the jumping puzzles.. I used to run the JP when our entire zone was flipped from a massive zerg and there was nothing else you can really do solo(yak slapping maybe). Now I and everyone else just shrugs and logs out since nothing to do.

I can also agree with those who are going for a legendary that this is a unfair nerf when this option was open to people since day one.

I have started to play my thief recently and noticed that when going d/d & s/d I didn’t need a dagger equipped in 2nd set and can go d/d & s/nothing. You keep all the stats/sigils/skills of your off hand dagger in 1st set while being s/nothing in 2nd set.

Is this working as intended?

The Balance[TB] since ’96 are recruiting new members.

  • Currently we have 120+ members looking to bring more into the fold.
  • We’re a T6 guild with missions unlocked which we run weekly.
  • We have scheduled WvW nights which we coordinate in Mumble and usually have from 15-25 playing together.
  • We’re Casual PVE and commonly see guild mates running dungeons or members working together towards map completion / achievements.
  • On weekends we run a lot of guild buffs you can take advantage of for bonus xp/karma/magic find/gathering/influence.
  • We have a good mix of members of all ages and skill types. We pride ourselves with being friendly and helpful to our members.
  • Our active time tends to be from 5-11pm PST weekdays and weekends its active all day.

We’re a guild who has been in many other games prior to GW2and a lot of our members have been around since UO, Shadowbane, WoW, DaoC, Warhammer online, Darkfall etc. We look at every member as someone we’d like to have around in future games as well

The Rampager gear is what I use for wvw I run a sb/gs trap build w/ piercing, so I can tag a lot of people for badges. Usually just Swoop to zerg hit entangle and run back to my zerg while GS block is up preventing dmg.

That beastmaster I posted is more a 1v1 where your pet stays invis most of the time dealing big amounts of dmg and any buffs on you apply to pet, condi removal on 12s cd and a nice 9.2k heal etc. It has a decent enough pwer to dmg and high enough crit to give pet might regularly and proc sigil. s/wh offhand is for buffing pet and defensive for getting away from melee(I put hydromancy sigil instead of energy recently since i don’t have prot on dodge traited). You can also swap out commanding voice for bond if you prefer and the 30% pet speed for pet heals on crit since horn/RAO will be giving pet swiftness. During day you could also swap out food for ghost pepper popper’s to gain 3 stacks of might to boost pet dmg up more.

I have to agree these changes are too much and seem more of a knee jerk reaction by Anet. Buff 2 classes(war/theif) and neuter everyone else, I do see how they can call this “balancing”.

I’m on the fence of leaving this game and going back to wow/darkfall or just play CS or something to get rid of this terrible experience of gw2 dev team. (not all updates were terrible just they typically drop the ball on actually balancing).

I always found this an amusing argument.. Its another condition.. Use condition remove like any other condition lol If you are running your full glass zerker toon maybe YOU should think about changing YOUR spec to include some condition removal.
Confusion can hurt but it doesn’t tick like bleeds, burns, posion.. and its a mesmer so you can easily just move away till it drops off you incase your condi removal is on CD.

I think confusion is fine the way it is but if they plan to nerf by 50% like spvp where its useless they should add in a tick dmg.

I’d have to disagree my main post was a question not a statement to be ridiculously misinterpreted as conclusive evidence. If I were making a conclusive statement I would have provided thorough testing and posted it as such and not as a question.

I posted my question out of curiosity if there were a bug relating to the damage I seen on Anet provided information tool. I do know how toughness is supposed to affect direct damage but the numbers I seen made me question it enough to post my curiosity on this forum in chance someone else had noticed a bug or trend of others with similar question.

I’d like to see where you came to the conclusion of where I “spit on the whole wiki”. When the example provided by myself was to point out that bugs do exist. The inclusion of “wiki” into my comment was trivial and perhaps in hindsight would have been best said “Anet description” so as not to agitate wiki advocates into over sensationalism.

I’ll agree the combat log is a poor source of information but it is what Anet provides us so if anything is ridiculous it’s what they provided us. Who knows perhaps it will be something they improve in the future.

I will give credit to the wiki as it does have a lot of useful information. My example which happened included the wiki was to simply illustrate bugs do occur from time to time contrary to wiki provided information. As a wiki advocate if you felt that my pointing out that example discredits the wiki in its entirety, so be it.

I just know the same thief was hitting my glass cannon mes with no +tough in trait or gear for 10k and I logged into thief with 1700 toughness which is 2800AR and I was getting popped by the same thief for 10k as well. There didn’t seem to be any sort of mitigation on the damage from backstab. Even the mug which was hitting for 4.5k lol which hopefully gets nerfed as per the SoG video.

That’s not what happened, you’re mistaken. Toughness mitigates any and all physical damage but does not affect condition damage. That’s how the game’s defence mechanics work, that’s how it always has worked and probably always will work.

Repeating yourself again after being told how it works isn’t going to make it so that you’re correct and you didn’t mistakenly see something else over what actually occurred.

I posed my question because I looked at my combat log and seen his opening single hits doing same amount of damage on two very different builds one being tanky and one being glass cannon. Who knows maybe it was a lucky crit or whatever but I figured I would ask on the forum as perhaps there was a bug someone knows about.

Yes I’m well aware I didn’t bring forth screenies as it never occurred to me at the time to take any.

On a flip side.

You seem the type who believes everything a wiki would say and would have argued on Anet behalf that condi duration % on runes and weapons work “as stated by wiki”. It took some testing by people to prove it doesn’t work and later Anet confirmed. Thus proving bugs DO happen and sometimes things DON’T work as stated.

Does toughness mitigate backstab damage? Was just curious cause in EB was testing with a thief could hit me in mes glass cannon for 10k so I logged into my thief with 1700 toughness and medium armor and he was doing the same damage.
