I would have spent hundreds of dollars with ANet by now buying whole individual sets of armor skin packs just for 1 piece I wanted, but I have boycotted Outfits for a long time now and plan to never, ever, ever, EVER buy one again, in protest.

Stop giving them money for Outfits and they will wake up. BOYCOTT OUTFITS.

And while you’re at it, make a new slot for “effects” type things like Winter’s Presence so you can still wear a scarf while it snows on you. I’ll give you more money…

Every time I’m playing mad king content of any kind, or standing in lions arch my screen blacks out and I get these weird sound effects…like its trying to put me in a spooky setting…maybe I’m having a “nightmare”, but the joke is getting old.

I cannot play the game with a blackout screen, regardless of how interesting the sound effects are. I’ve turned all settings to lowest, changed resolution, double checked my drivers on this new computer and insured everything is installed properly, its something in the game directly from the mad king event and while as I said the “nightmare” idea is amusing the first time, it stops being funny when it’s continuous and doesn’t go away after a few minutes.
Now I’ve blacked out in the middle of fighting a boss in the laberinth in the middle of a group. so basicly while I’m sitting here typing this out my character is standing there, getting killed, in the way of the party, or at the least not helping anyone at all and I cannot play.
I don’t know what to report it as, a bug? I have no information to give but that my screen is black and I have to constantly stop the game to get it to go away. so I’m posting it here, as feedback, a bug report, what ever.

With either of these traits equipped and the corresponding weapon set equipped the following actions are 20%/15% faster.

-Reviving allies
-Stomping downed foes
-Capturing interactable objectives, such as Stillness on Temple or Mist Champions on Stronghold

I spent over an hour today testing and confirming the interactions. I realize these traits aren’t used very often, but nowhere in the tooltip for these traits does it say that it influences the speeds of the actions listed above. Not sure if this interaction is intentional, or if it’s a tooltip error.

Confirmed; I’ve seen it happen and it’s currently being exploited by Mesmers who know about it.
(Edit: it might be a minor annoyance / edge in PvE/gathering, but in SPvP it’s causing the equivalent of quickness stomps and I thought those were done away with for a reason…?)

Either the tooltip is wrong and needs to be updated (in which case the trait is OP as kitten and needs to be scaled back anyway) or it is not working as intended.

While I agree with others who have posted here saying “block, report and move on” it still makes me wonder how ANet hasn’t managed to shut down PvPBank on its own. God knows they could afford the lawyers to go after these gold spammers. It’s a malicious attack on ANet’s profits and customers, I can’t understand why they haven’t been able to get that site shut down. Perhaps it’s some kind of legal issue with where the spammers are located.

In addition to the target turning black:

Arrow over selected target enemy is now grey-green instead of red as it used to be.

In spectate, team colors are no longer displayed on nameplates… everyone gets a green nameplate regardless of whether they’re on red or blue team.

I was playing S/S but gave up on the offhand sword very quickly; it was only good for the block in SPvP but Axe OH gives much better control, AoE, and has a very useful extra gap closer.

In PvE there’s no reason to use OH sword at all, ever.

If ANet wants to make charitable donations to causes, that’s their prerogative, but this is a game and they’re running a business, not a charity.

Also, I don’t want to have to look at a bunch of gem store junk plastered with depressing stuff I read about in the news every time I log in, so there’s that. Most people play MMOs to escape the real world., not dwell on it.

Far as I can tell people who have 1000s of gold either 1) have way too much free time on their hands or 2) just got real lucky with drops. You can make gold grinding some of the ways you describe but there’s no “get rich quick” scheme and if there was, gold wouldn’t have any value any more anyway.

OP, you have a point but I have never been left unanswered when I asked something in mapchat. So in the end if something like a mentor tag is required “for a helpful friendly person” then it seems as if the rest “of us” aren’t – and that is not true – anyone can ask almost any question on a map without apple and will be answered.
I have no idea what the tag’s purpose is, I don’t mind it as it can be useful, but I don’t really see a special meaning to it. To me it’s a PvE tag, I guess.

I guess you skipped the part where I specifically said, “Most people in GW2 are very friendly and helpful, but when we’re tagged up like I am right now, it means we’re specifically here to help you. Hit us up if you need guidance.”

Conversely, I find a lot of people are annoyed that the Mentor tag resembles a Commander tag so much. If it was an apple on the map like it is above your head, I think it wouldn’t be as annoying. Has to do with grinding out the gold to afford a Commander tag and being assumed to know what you’re doing-

And considering you get a Mentor tag for only one mastery level, it’s really not hard to get, and that I think is also part of the affront some people find.

Yeah, I get their gripe and actually I agree. They spent 300g on something I got for practically free in like two days of gameplay.

That being said, I have been playing GW2 regularly since beta, own 8 max level characters, and am working on World Completion on my 3rd character (slacking because I pretty much only SPvP). I think I qualify as a “veteran” player by pretty much anyone’s standard. Do I think it’s fair or right that someone who just started 2 months ago could grind their way to Pact Commander and gain a Mentor tag to supposedly teach new players? No. But I still think Mentor is a fantastic idea at its core.

I agree, Mentor tag acquisition has its flaws, but I also think that the most glaring flaws will work themselves out. When a bunch of trolls get it and you have 50+ Mentor tags on any given map, ANet is going to have to respond in kind. It’s one of those cases of the trash taking itself out, imo.

I have plenty of other ideas about how to curb the abuse — as you mentioned, making the tag more difficult to acquire for starters. Maybe restricting its Mastery track to players who have played x amount of time (only if you have played x hours maybe?). Changing the map icon would be excellent actually — I agree that currently it too closely resembles a Commander tag and causes additional confusion.

Ever since the “Mentor” ability came out, I tag up in almost every vanilla area I’m in (especially in lower level zones). I might be one of the few people who uses it for what it’s actually intended as: a tag to let new players know that I’m there and willing to help them. Sometimes I use it as a ghetto Cmdr tag too, but not often.

Anyway, while I think it’s an amazing idea, there is a lot of work that needs to be done to communicate to new players what this tag is supposed to represent.

“What’s that apple over your head?”


It’s a Mentor badge. It means I am here to help new players, answer questions and get you un-stuck. It also gives me some small buffs like swiftness in cities and faster resurrection on allies.

Mentor badge is earned after you hit max level & do enough in the world to be considered an experienced player. When you turn on Mentor tag you’re saying you’re a vet that knows about the game & is willing to teach others.

Most people in GW2 are very friendly and helpful, but when we’re tagged up like I am right now, it means we’re specifically here to help you. Hit us up if you need guidance.

Doesn’t confusion over who and what you are kind of defeat the purpose of being a Mentor?

I think this problem could be easily fixed if, when someone hovers over a Mentor tag on the map or over a player’s head, it gave them a very brief description of what the tag is meant to be. If the Mentor tag was truly meant to direct new players to where they can find friendly, human help, make it a little more intuitive so that we Mentors aren’t just tagging up in vain.

P.S. – every new player I have ever explained the Mentor tag to has said something to the effect of “Whoa, what a great idea, never seen this in any other MMO!” and they always thank me for it… so if that was the reaction that was intended, it’s working!

The wonderful community in this game is one of the many things that set it apart from other games, and I think the Mentor tag embodies everything that is good and right about GW2 and its playerbase. Keep it going, please.

I’ve chosen Rev as my new main. I played Zillah the Engineer since beta. Now I am Zïllah the Revenant.

It was important to me to give this character a “softer” armor look – I dislike most of the heavy armor skins in the game and the character himself is meant to be more of a leather / cloth-looking user. His build is very much around mobility and quick +1 finishes to fights (I’m a PvPer obvs). He doesn’t play like a heavy to me, so this is the look I’m best able to achieve for that given my options.

Weapons are S/S, skins are Lord Taeres’s Shadow.
Adventurer’s Scarf
Shoulder Scarf
Braham’s Chestplate
Carapace Gauntlets
Forgeman’s Tassets
Braham’s Warboots

Dyes: Midnight Ice, Abyss, Blacklight

Really wish there were more heavy armor options that were sleeker / had more leather in them. I don’t want to look like an armored tank cruising around, but as I said I think I managed to make him look “leather” even though he’s “heavy.”

Rather then simply bash anyone who even mentioned or simply discussed elixir c, would you explain in detail, with some reasonable facts, to support what your saying. Otherwise your opinion hold no more or less water then anyone else’s.

Convert conditions to boons on a 40s CD means you can use it once a fight, MAYBE. Even in HGH, 32s is the same story. Generally the classes we’re going to get condi loaded against are going to have boon strips, or worse they’ll bait your C and then immediately use Corrupt Boon. Supposing you don’t get stripped or corrupted, the condi classes that Engi really struggles against also have plenty of sustained condition pressure and cover, so even with C and HGH you will never be able to cleanse them off as fast as they can apply. On top of all that, condi isn’t even the meta right now so it’s just plain ineffective to go building around condi cleanse. You’re going to load your bar with useless condi clear and then get rekt by everyone that’s not running condi (most profs currently). If you want on-demand cleanse for days, go roll an Ele.

Not sure why I even need to explain all of this, it seems like common sense that you don’t build a class that’s weak to X around fighting X. Engi is absolutely abysmal at condi clear, so you don’t 1v1 condi builds. Build your Engi around one of the many things we shine at instead, bring a utility for escape, and play smart.

The tool wrench’s pull doesn’t always seem to work, i know that is a topic and i have first hand experience. Sometimes it goes on coldown and nothing happens.

This is Magnet, and it is indeed a buggy piece of kitten and complaining about it is the #1 reason I come to the forums. :P

That being said, you may also be coming up against Stability, or certain traits, namely the Ranger’s trait Shared Anguish.

Anyone who runs Elixir C has gone and lost their kitten mind. It’s not good. And it’s a waste of a utility slot that’s so much better used in other ways.

Traits in the Alchemy line, heal combos, EG, HGH, and other things mentioned here will help you survive condis. Don’t waste a slot on C, ever.

Also, part of this is learning how to pick your battles. Every class has a hard counter (except D/D Eles, lool) so just don’t pick fights with people who are running classes / builds that counter yours. If you see a condi Necro, just walk away, because you are gonna lose.

Damage over duration, for the aforementioned reason that cleanse will make your duration meaningless anyway. Better to get as much damage off up-front before the condi is removed.

I fully expected Grasping Shadow to be bugged and a potential waste of Energy, as all teleport / body replacement abilities in game are horribly broken. I was right. It’s the same as Scorpion Wire, Spectral Grasp, Magnet, shadowsteps etc. These others have been bugged since beta, have only gotten worse in recent patches, and I have lost hope they will ever be fixed. Convinced it is a “bait” skill to try and get you to waste Energy you could use instead on skills that will actually work. Simply don’t use it.

if it’s too complex for you to use, just don’t use it. I feel it works perfectly and synergy is fine. Switching weapons while keeping the same legend is great.

It’s not a complexity issue. I main 3-kit Engi and Ele. I can handle swaps.

I’m saying the weapon sets are clearly meant for specific channels, so you basically have to take a certain weapon set for a certain channel because that’s all it’s meant for. It feels horribly restricted in terms of build and usage.

There are a number of ways the issue could be fixed, but all in all Rev feels pigeon-holed in everything it does, doesn’t flow together well… weapons don’t play nice together, channels don’t synergise at all. Feels clunky and sorely underpowered. Expected a lot more.

Underwhelming.

Weapon swapping was given to the Revenant because of player feedback. But I feel this change has caused Rev to be a class which is cumbersome to play, lacks synergy between stances and weapon abilities, and just plain feels awkward and half-baked.

Weapon abilities do not seem to have much harmony with one another, and with few exceptions offer little “flow” between sets. They were never meant to be used together, and you can definitely feel it.

Legend channels are already clearly pigeonholed into certain weapon sets, but weapon swapping confuses the issue and results in overall poor design.

It would have been a far better choice to allow access to only 1 weapon set, but have the weapon skills function differently depending on the stance (so your entire skill bar would change depending on the Legend you’re channelling — not simply the utility skills).

I have 3 Engi and tend to play a certain “type” of build on each. Sometimes I’m getting a lot of hate from ppl about what I’m running, then the salty tears will dry up for a while while they go rage about some other build. Then they’ll come back a few months later to tell me how noob my build is again. It’s just totally random, you play what you like and then wait around to see whether scrubs and baddies are going to come crying that what you happen to be running is currently considered “OP” or not.

Also, someone told me this bug happens when the target is moving away from you. Not true. I tried to pull a necro who had afk’d on point… literally the guy was afk, not moving, not casting, nothing. And yes. My pull FAILED.

Pulled someone on Skyhammer, it pulled them halfway to the broken glass, but not the whole way. Next time, it pulled, but then their toon got hung up on the 1" tall ledge of ground, went flying up in the air, flailing around a bit, land back on the ground far away from me. Pull a ranger to me, use the jump-in-the-air trick to make it land, he just drops in place anyway. No pull.

Huge PS: Anything one can create in 1min will be complete and utter rabbit turds compared to something thought out, tried n’ true, tested to and through the blue…

You don’t create an entirely new build in 1 minute. You already know the 2 / 3 variants of your build that work, and how they are stronger against what (in general). For instance, if you’re in a Q with a group less than 5, and you end up with a bunker guardian random, you might be able to quickly swap your traits on Ele from Stone Heart to the Fire line meta for a bit more DPS.

It’s not rocket science. The enemy team is running duo Necro? I am gonna be alting off my Engi to something with more condi clear. The enemy team has two Engi? I am gonna be swapping to Warrior. They have a thief and we don’t? Time for mobility, boys!!

I don’t need to know their exact builds. I can do some basic reasoning and adjust based on my understanding of general play / counterplay…

The build has insane healing, higher than nearly every other class thanks to heal skill and mortar 5. It is a 6K base heal with 4 blast finishers that clears 2 condis. Gearshield absorbs bursts nicely and the build can get out damage while blocking still and with the perma vigor you should be able to dodge your way out of most situations. The build does lack stunbreaks and that can be a problem but there is nothing else you can really take. slick shoes doesn’t really fit in the build and you should be within range of stuns. What are the bugs for SD? It seems to proc or go off 100% of the time and does the correct damage/bounces.

Sorry, but wrong. You have no stun breaker and that basically IS the nail in the coffin for this build. Your video shows you dancing all over some poor mesmer that looks like they just started SPvP yesterday afternoon (and others who are already engaged or are just plain bad… hotjoins maybe?), but any decently-skilled shatter mes in the current meta is going to turn around, Power Lock, burst you down instantly, and you will have nothing to stop that.

They’re trying to keep an SD build listed on MetaBattle right now, and I have a lot of problems with that one too. You can find the build here and you can find my discussion posts on why even that version is bad here. I also list the SD build I use there.

There is no halfway viable Static Discharge build without Utility Goggles. It is one of the defining traits of the build, and trying to replace Goggles in that slot doesn’t work for the many reasons listed in my discussion post on MB.

Give this a try. Put down the grenade kit. I take this solo into ranked and put down guards, necro, mes 1v1 fairly regularly. I really only struggle against ele, and long bow rangers. I exclusively play engi, and play spvp probably 80% do my play time; I was definitely with you on the frustration scale after updates. Gives this build a try, it’s surprisingly tank and had excellent burst with not awful static condi apply.

This looks interesting, but without even testing yet I can tell you that the Self-Regulating Defenses has got to go. It’s the worst trait Engi has… nothing like interrupting your own casts (usually your heal or block) and making you unable to use skills at all when you least need it. Also, SD is notorious for pulling out all the stops at the last minute and downing an enemy at the moment they think they’re about to pwn the Engi… Elixir S autoproc makes that basically impossible.

Anyway, I ran SD Engi regularly for about a year and half and am always searching for the latest and greatest version… it’s gonna be truly viable again one day, I swear! ;P

basically all shoutbows and celestial engis have switched to eles so it’s only logical that you have that many now because what else should they play if they want to keep the same role.

and why have they switched? because their builds have been trashed instead of keeping them alive and viable and the same will happen if they trash ele. maybe it’s gonna be 2 necros next or whatever is good enough.

Sorry not sorry. You’re wrong. Skilled teams with the luxury of being able to choose just about any player and any comp they want still overwhelmingly choose to run double Ele. The entire reason I decided to start playing Ele after being an Engi main since beta is because lately it’s been so strong you’d have to be brain dead not to be able to bring it whenever you don’t have one. It’s not a matter of overpopulation, it’s a matter of strengths vs. weaknesses… and Ele has a lot more in column A than in column B.

I am a “lifer” of PvP and was an RPer for many years… until GW2 RP ruined it for me, and made me absolutely despise RPers. Yes, the RP in GW2 is really that bad. But whatever floats your boat.

Never do I see people RP in HotM. “RPer” is used as an insult in the GW2 SPvP community. Actually I find it very nice that I can go there and not see people spamming emotes with trashy romance novel tripe all the kitten time, but that’s just my personal hangup so whatever. If you wanna RP in the Mists, go for it — just bring a real thick skin, because you WILL be flamed / trolled by 90% of the people there.

After I accept the Q is when I afk to grab a drink / take a kitten / whatever.

I can’t do it before, because I’ve got to sit there staring at my screen doing nothing for 10+ minutes while I wait for the pop. If I miss that, my team will kittening hate me.

So yeah, that’s basically why. It’s the only time it’s “safe” to afk, and you know exactly how much time you have.

It’s really, really sad that we have to jump through these kinds of hoops just to try to bypass something that should have been fixed ages ago. Anyway, I’ll be testing this today to see if it makes Magnet actually pull my target TO me rather than just plopping them down in place.

So, I have tried and tried to adapt my builds to use something other than TK in that slot. I hate it. Nothing feels right, nothing can make up for the utility that TK used to have.

Maybe I should just quit until HoT and then shelf my 3-year Engi main in favor of Rev? I can hardly stand to play rifle Engi any more for all the Jump Shot placement problems too. Teleports in general in this game have been such a huge problem, and the port patch made it so much worse.

Terrain and teleports / body repositioning just don’t play nice together. They never have, but it’s gotten so much worse that it’s almost unplayable now. I suspect all the problems with shadowsteps, blinks, pulls, and jumps are connected to the same root problem that is breaking the game for anyone who makes ample use of these types of skills (Engi and Thief are hurting the most I think). ANet please give this some attention! :<

Deployable turrets?

Turrets were a zero skill meta that took an amazingly versatile, fun, interesting and challenging class and basically gave them an “AFK” mode. I used to joke that my dog played SPvP Turretgineer and was quickly climbing the ladderboards, because he could play it without thumbs or a brain. They were a scourge and I couldn’t be happier that they’re gone, they were a blight on the entire profession’s reputation.

Anyway yeah… ding dong, deployable turrets are gone~ take this opportunity to branch out into more interesting builds that you can actually employ an active playstyle with.
