Give me GS with a launcher and let me cosplay as Dante pls. :D
Would it shoot dinosaurs, too?
Sorta reviving a dead thread here, but I’d kill for a class change store item. Race change, too, if that’s at all possible. Ever since they changed how the traits worked (where now you have to hunt ‘em down via world comp or champ events, etc, etc), I’ve been utterly discouraged to make a new character, even if I desperately want to play a certain class, and I doubt I’m alone in this.
…So, pretty much, ANet should consider giving us an option to change classes (even if its from one Medium Armour class to another, etc, etc) in the Gem store. Charge us 1K gems for it, if they have to — I don’t think anyone’d mind.
I’m hoping that it gets rebuilt/redone before HoT launches, assuming that it’s coming out Q3/4 of this year. It’d make sense for them to have it as something that’s supposed to fill the gaps of emptiness in between the end of Season 2 and the release of their expansion, after all.
That, and I want my neat looking Pirate city back! ;____;
Now, there might already be posts about this, but a few quick searches on the forum (at least in this subcategory) have yielded no results. So I’ll just ask my question and hope that people don’t chide me too much (considering that this is probably a pretty old discussion, if it exists). Anyway…
…Why is Rox’s armour so bland? It’s literally like… level 10 gear, but with one of the store-bought (iirc) skull shoulders. The only defining feature about her outfit is her quiver, and while that is immensely cool, I don’t think it really makes it stand out as much as say Braham’s or Jory’s entire outfit does.
Will there be a redo of her appearance in HoT? I know it’s supposed to take place immediately after the end of season 2, but I mean… c’mon. ;____;
I’ve been getting an issue very similar to this, too.
Since I’ve been going for 100% World Comp on my Ranger, I’ve noticed that if I zone into another zone and quickly return, even if I trek halfway across the zone I’ve returned to, when I log out/back in, I’ll be at the beginning of the zone, or rather, at the entrance of where I had zoned in from.
The exact incident I had is that I went from Diessa Plateau to Wayfarer’s to get the Cragstead PoI, then quickly hopped back into Diessa because I wasn’t done yet. I go halfway into that zone, kill a few Skales, then get called away — no biggie. I log off, come back an hour or so later, and bam, I’m standing right by the Fort next to the portal (or entrance) to Wayfarer’s, leagues away from where I had logged out. It really makes playing this game’s PvE in short bursts extremely annoying, considering that I’m one of those players who detests using WPs unless they’re absolutely necessary or when I’m feeling /really/ lazy.
They just need to implement a third option. That way, we’d get a fully aggressive option where our pet actively seeks out enemies, a passive option where our pet only attacks the enemies we tell them to, and a Guard option, where it attacks what we attack.
1. Rangers were generally bad when last i played, from what i remember spirit ranger was the only “viable” build and rangers were generally dismissed when it came to dungeons, is there more diversity now?
Now, I can’t say for sure, but (I /think/) the one build every Ranger (or just about every ranger) is using in PvP is a LB+GS Power build — a Power Ranger. So… There’s pretty much only one /super/ optimal build, as is the case with most (if not all) the classes. And even then, it’s supposed to be sorta underpowered with its burst, compared to a lot of the other classes.
I still enjoy it well enough, though that’s because I like medium armour, I like having pets, and I love pew pewing people. And the GS skills look kitten.
2. The Pet AI was flawed to say to least, has it improved, are they useful now?
Pets are awesome, but their AI still sucks. They blatantly charge through AoEs, take loads of damage, and you’re probably going to be swapping pets out a lot if you’re in a very sustained battle — trash mobs and 1v1s not included. Probably.
3. There was a lot of grind, any improvement on this since? ie: more certain ways of getting what you want without having insane amounts of gold.
Uh… Not to my knowledge. The best armours come from Crafting and legendaries from the Mystic Toilet, which are both pretty much huge gold sinks. Not really a problem Rangers suffer from exclusively, as much as everyone suffers from. That, and it’s an MMO, so grinding is to be expected.
…D-did you just use Guard as an example of mobility compared to Rangers?
As someone who mains both a Guard and Ranger (more Guardian than Ranger) in SPvP, I can tell you that Guards aren’t all that mobile at all — definitely not as mobile as the likes of a Ranger, even without a Warhorn. I mean, I guess they’re more mobile in the sense that they can get up in people’s faces a lot better, but not in the sense that they can play keepaway/disengage easily. They can’t do that worth kitten, at least not if they’re relying solely on their mobility.
Really, Guardians have JI as a nice tele (which is on a 32 second cooldown), a leap which has a fairly “meh” range (600 – 900, iirc) which is decent for closing gaps and speeding yourself up when roaming (save for the fact that it’s on a 15 second CD), and a teleport on the sword, which I wouldn’t advise using in a SPvP situation, considering that (in my opinion) the Scepter is a /lot/ more useful than that of the Sword.
So tl;dr, no the Ranger is not less mobile than a Guardian. And even though it’s a lot less mobile than a lot of the other classes, you have to understand that we have the advantage of range and the high ground. A good LB ranger is usually always out of range — or at least out of range for as long as humanly possible — and that is why we don’t have an excessive amount of escape skills and teles coming out of our orifices.
Now what we could /really/ use is maybe a few more condi cleanses. /That/ is something a Guardian has us beat on, hands down.
If you want most optimal in terms out pure power, then GS + LB.
If you want coolest looking, then GS + LB. Or any combination of weapons, really.
Moral of the story: GS skills looks /really/ cool, and LB is LB. I’m biased.
Let me start off by saying that I’ve just started playing the Ranger again today, and so far I’ve been having a blast with my party in SPvP! The thing is that I almost /never/ switch to my Greatsword — it’s a similar problem I had with my Guardian, where there I never remembered to switch to my Scepter/Focus. The CDs are so low on the Ranger that I’m just tempted to wait a few seconds for Rapid Fire to recharge and just keep using that and spamming the Auto or using the other skills when it’s on CD. Honestly, I’m probably doing something /extremely/ wrong, because the only time I /really/ switch to it is when it’s a bit of a hectic moment or when I’m trying to disengage so I use Swoop to GTFO.
So my question is: When do I switch to it? Is there a general rotation one uses before swapping to the GS? If there is, I’d appreciate if someone would share that info. :P
Any advice is welcome advice, by the way! I’m a complete scrub with my Ranger (I remember playing a SB ranger /waaaaaaaaaaay/ back at launch), but I haven’t touched him since them.
Is there one?
I’m not very good at finding developer comments — hell, I have a hard time navigating the forums — so I haven’t been having much luck. So I figured I’d come to the all-seeing community to ask if anyone’s heard anything. As someone who didn’t do SPvP all that much at launch, I missed out on some /really/ cool armour pieces (though I /did/ manage to snag the Stalwart pants, which are neat), so I was wondering if they’re ever going to be reimplemented? Maybe as a reward track? Please, ANet? Could we get a “Hey, these were the armours we arbitrarily removed from the game!” track? Pls? :D
…pls? :’D
Now, a bit of extra info before we start: I play the Medi DPS build with the GS + Scepter/F combo (hammer is too slow for me and throws me off :\) in SPvP, and as the title might suggest, I’m completely oblivious to when I’m supposed to swap/use my alternate weapon set. In what situation should I switch? What skills should I use for what occasion and what skills should I avoid, if any at all.
I’ve experimented and tested them out myself, but I only ever find myself using Scepter 3 and Focus 5, with the occasional Scepter 2 when my weapon swap is still on C/D and I’m on the run (in which case I slap it down behind me). Is this normal?
How do you want to unlock Specializations?

I wouldn’t mind how I got it (be it through a quest in HoT or a 5g manual from the trainers), so long as it doesn’t involve grinding or the help of RNGesus.
Also, I’m still a bit bitter about them making Specializations a level 80 feature. As someone who has four level 80s and doesn’t plan on making any more alts (except for the Rev), it doesn’t affect me, but I know lots of people who bailed on GW2 around the 40 – 60 mark because they’ve gotten so used to all their skills and wanted something new. I thought this was essentially going to be that.
But nope, locked till level 80 (at least from what I read). ;____;
Anyway, off-topic mode off!
Can we disable the "Fall Scream" in HoT?

I believe that they said that with the masteries, you could learn to deploy your glider faster than what they showed (which seemed like a “fall nearly to your death” distance), so that’d mean that… Yes, at first, you’re going to scream like a little baby because your character has “no idea (this throws personal RP out the window, but that’s just something you’ll have to deal with) how to operate this alien contraption and oh my god, I’m going to die! AHHHHH! ;____;” but given a bit of time tinkering with it, you’ll eventually learn to jump off cliffs like a fearless pro.
And I mean, that’s not the best solution, admittedly, but it’s better than not being able to do a thing about it.

I think axe would probably be my top pick for Guardian. Sword in offhand would be pretty cool, too, but with other classes getting full 5-skill options, I’d expect a little more than just that.
I totally forgot about the axe! Yes, I want that, give me that!
am I the only one that wants to see a bow being used in melee? if we can have a GS and a hammer being used in range, why not?
And (jokes aside) I don’t think that’ll ever happen. You can throw a GS/Hammer (or channel magic through it) to do relative damage, smacking someone over the head with a bow wouldn’t be nearly as effective. It’d hurt, but it’s nothing a mace (or a quarterstaff) couldn’t do. Which, speaking of… Give us dem melee staves, ANet.

I think the biggest speculation for the Guard Spec is Longbow, and I do /not/ want that at all. There’s this part of my brain that just never sat well with heavy armoured classes using archery. A mage with a greatsword and plate armour? Sure, that’s awesome. A knight with a longbow? Nonononononon, leave that to the rogues! Give us a rifle, if you’re going to go with 2H ranged! :P
But I’m sure I’m alone in this.
There is no such thing as PvE-ers or WvW-ers or PvP-ers, there are only Play-ers. If your trying to get POI solo, your tieing your own hands. Ask the map for help. Generally they are more then happy to aid you where they can.
There is most certainly a thing as PvE-ers/WvW-ers/PvP-ers. I know plenty of people that would never touch WvW in their lifetime, both PVP/PVE players alike. And they exist in troves in the GW2 community. Some people want a more casual experience, so they stick with open world content (a la events/world completion), others want dungeons, some prefer only WvW, and some just want to write their character’s lives in Tyria as an RPer. To lump us all in one massive group is a disservice to our diversity as a community.
And to paraphrase what (to my understanding/interpretation) someone else said; getting people to help you in the Eternal Battlegrounds (or any BG, assuming that it’s mildly busy) isn’t as easy as a quick “Hey, PvE player here! Could we redirect the zerg over to that keep? I need the SP that’s there. Thanks!” If the achievement was made separate for PvE/PvP (or in this case, WvW) this would be a non-issue. And as a person who knows nothing about code, I can’t say for certain, but I doubt it’s outrageously hard to do this, anywho. At least not for someone with a mild bit of experience in that field of work.
Also…
Hilariously, it was almost against the rules of the WvW forum, you were one day early.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/A-Note-on-Necroposting-don-t-do-it/first
…That needs to be sticky’d! As someone who is completely new to the forum scene (and the GW2 forums, especially), I was completely unaware of this.
(edited by thorsonwong.2805)
I’m still not sure why PVE-ers have to 100% all the WvW maps (three of which are the exact same map :|) for their completion achievement. They should just separate them and make two achievements (assuming that the WvW players even care enough to have one for themselves), one for WvW and another for PVE. That way — as a PVE/SPVP player — I won’t have to take up a slot in the WvW lobby when I have no intention of running with the zerg. Not to mention that it’d just save every PVE-er from the frustration that is being ganked when you’re minding your own business, wandering from POI to Vista to POI and have no desire to fight someone.
Honestly, it’s pretty much a win-win for everyone.
But yeah, if you’re struggling, you’ve pretty much just gotta wait for your server to be pitted against a lower tier “underdog” server (sorta) or follow the WvW zerg until you get to your destination. With how WvW is, your zerg will probably steamroll through the PoIs you need! Though don’t expect them to stop for you, so… you know, be ready to apply swiftness and catch the kitten up.
EDIT: Apologies for bumping. I’m not sure it’s actually a crime to do so (since if no one shows interest, it’ll be buried within a day or two), but I feel obligated to apologize and acknowledge that I have bumped a thread in my sleepiness. My brain literally looked at the override button and mindlessly checked it. :|

So uhm… There’s probably a post for this already (there /has/ to be, but when I searched “Retreat” I had about 50 pages to go through, probably more since the forums limit it to 50 pages until you get to said 50), but could we just rename the “Retreat!” skill? Perhaps to something less… depressing (bad word choice)? Retreat would imply that we’re (or just me, in my Guard’s case; I guess he likes barking orders at himself and the odd comrade here and there) losing the battle and we’re having to fall back — to flee from our enemies. But like… Surely we could have it be something a little more inspiring, right? Maybe “Onwards!” or “For Glory!” (even if that sounds a bit more fitting for a Warrior than it does a Guard). Yeah? Sound good? Yes?
Pls?
Pls, ANet..? ;____;
(This is, of course, somewhat of a joke thread. As much as I’d like them to change the “Retreat!” skill to something more fitting, I’m sure they have more than enough on their hands — a la Patches/Heart of Thorns — than to redo the skill text, reacquire all the voice actors, and re-record all the dialog. All because one person — or a small venue of people — think that it’s somewhat annoying — or unfitting, considering that all the other shouts are fairly inspiring, with the exception of “Save Yourselves!” — that his character shouts “Retreat!” in the stead of something else.)
I’m concerned about Guild housing being an extremely big let-down. So… instead of being able to put down buildings/furniture, all we’ll get is a “Build Tavern for 15K influence!” and it just erects as some static model that has four tables, one bar top, three patrons, a barkeep merchant, and ten stools.
Funnily enough, I think the RP community (at least of those who belonged the Carnished Toast back in the pre-Megaserver days) actually named that inn/pub the Golden Sun. If you’re lucky enough to get dropped into the “RP IP” (which I can’t think of off the top of my head), you’d probably see masses of people lounging around a good 18/24 hours a day, all days of the week.
Lore-wise, I think even Asura gates are supposed to cost money, they just don’t cost us any money in the game. I forget exactly where, but I remember an NPC (human female, I want to say… maybe Divinity’s Reach or a refugee camp) talking about how they couldn’t afford to go through an Asura gate.
There are two NPCs (Human Males, iirc) by the Ebonhawke gate having a discussion about the Asura gates, and more specifically, why they can’t just have Ebonhawke send troops over to DR and why they can’t just charter supplies through gates to Ebonhawke (iirc, though this conversation could be slightly different). The conclusion is that it could cost a fortune to do so, and that it’s just not worth it in the longrun.
TL;DR You’re right, Asura gates cost a decent sum of coin to use. More if you’re trying to transport goods or large quantities of things.
I personally only play Humans (because Humans look the coolest in most armours, imo) but Asura work, too. Norn are too… Norn for me. I see them as big burly dudes (or dudettes) wielding axes and bows, not mages. Same-ish with Charr. Sylvari could work, too, though there’s something off about a plant shooting lightning and fire from his (or her) hands.
Theres more to an ele than just D/D.
There is, but the D/D Ele is easily the coolest looking one out of the bunch.
amirite or amirite?
Out of curiosity…
…Do trains exist in the Guild Wars lore? We’ve got blimps (or things of that sort) and all sorts of other Steampunk-esque vehicles, but I don’t recall ever seeing a train or mention of one in GW2 or what little I’ve played of GW1.
Then again, I could just be ignorant and it could be in front of my face. |:
As cool as a Sword/Dagger (never been the fan of two swords, but that’s my inner realism nut showing) might be, I’d like to get a greatsword on my Ele. I mean, honestly, I’d like to have a spear (and not that underwater stuff e___e) or a polearm, but that’s not happening because it ain’t in the game, so I might as well go for my second favourite.
Oh and pistols would be cool, I guess. Like someone said above, it’d be very reminiscent of the Spellslinger in WS, which was a very neat idea.
Just the face of my new Engi in the char gen. Sadly, he looks different in game. Face looks longer and thinner, etc, etc. :\
They should’ve done what most games do and just make your haircut a ponytail when you stick a helm (which displays your hair) on. That way, you can still have hair and they wouldn’t have to do too much, in terms of work/modelling.
I’d reckon that the only people in Tyria who would be “against” same sex marriages would be the nobility, since they’d be more focused on continuing the family line, rather than all the lovey-dovey (romantic) parts of a relationship. And even then, I don’t think it’d be something the nobility looks down upon, so long as you as a noble aren’t participating in it yourself and putting a stopper on your family tree.
But hey, that’s just my two cents. I’ve always seen the nobility to be extremely pragmatic about things when it’s about their family’s place in the web of nobility, etc, etc. But then again, I just imagine that all noble families have Tywin Lannister as the head of their operations.
6/10
Not a fan of the face or hair color, so I can’t give it anything higher with those personal biases in mind, but it still looks nice for what it is.
