Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

I just make characters based on what i feel like doing that moment, and what looks nice/fitting for the character I have in mind. Or just stumble on a nice setup by playing with the character maker options, and go… hey i like that. So often it begins with does the character feel like a man or woman … what options does the character builder give me for both genders and what clicks. And hey if it is a male… male it is… if it is a woman… woman it is.

It just happens that I play more males across MMO’s then females (I would guess 70% male 30% woman). But there 0.0 deliberate choice for it… just turned out that way. And no that does not make me feel insecure/dubious or whatever about my own gender ^^

Final pick for male had a fair few times to do with the females simply looking to much like young teenagers/dolls to my liking, or had breasts the size of Alaska when picking a small size (ok ok, hyperbole… but you get the idea), or most of the costume preview was skimpy manga like attire. And I often find the male picks to have more character.
I feel more comfortable playing a man looking around my age then an exposing teenager my sex (I am a 40 year old woman by the way and I have (had) some what might be considered sexy characters).

And hey if I have no problem playing some exotic race that’s nothing like me in real life, in a world that is nothing like real life, what the heck does it matter what sex a character is compared to what I am in real life?

Also I see characters more like characters in a book/movie then as an mirror of myself. Ofcourse if I RP often a part of me slips in, in game choices are also tinted by whom I am in real life… but a hell of a lot isn’t and just goes by what seems fitting.

I have had plenty of characters of both sexes, different races and looks/ages. I like ti that way. Keeps it nice and diverse.

Raven glider for nevermore owner

I’d like a raven glider idea, so +1 on that. And then one who looks like the hawk wings and work like that. heck just recollar that. As the present black angelic wings always looked a bit floppy panel cape like instead of true wings. The hawk wings (and it’s alternatives) look way more realistic. So hey a recollor job seems easy enough and easy money.
But I don’t think you need to have to have Nevermore for it. Just make it available for everyone like the other wings, then also Nevermore owners can have it and they can rock the complete picture of staff and glider. Especially if the wings come as backpack too.

ANET please nerf HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

It doesnt need nerfing, but needs a rework to make it more playable for normal sized groups of players. and a base of solo playability. Just like the vanilla game. Last thing which needs to be adressed is more freedom to explore and adventure.
This will all stand or fall with what the spring update will bring.

Exactly my thought. How to do this, I don’t know, but as a goal it would be perfect.

What if HoT maps weren't as difficult?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

I would not need a nerf that brings it down to core maps level. Nor do i wish it to stay at present difficulty. Somewhere in between would be nice. So it feels like an fun endgame area to a solo players well, instead of it feeling like a tiptoe around in a dungeon setting alone instead of an open world map. Keep some harder pockets in the maps that would prefer grouping up and some group needing events like now or very skilled player, but not on the main roads.
That would be my preference and might entice me to log into the game before Living Story continues.

Has Living World been abandoned?

in Living World

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

I am keeping my trust on it not being abandoned as it’s the main reason I still check the forums every now and then and log in once in a blue moon.

HoT isn’t as enjoyable to me due to very group oriented, very much on the timer and being more difficult to me as solo player then I’d like when I play a game to relax. Seeing my free time which can be assigned to gaming is limited I won’t put that time into a game I stand around wondering what to do that is fun and relaxed, and i haven’t done dozens of times already.

It’s not like I am done with GW2. I love the game when there is stuff for me to do. But I just don’t have much reason to log in at the moment. Which makes me a bit of a stranger to the guild and as such lessens the reasons to log in more and more. I personally do not raid and never will for various reasons. So that content as far as i am concerned is no new content as for me for my play-sessions it would make no difference if it’s there or not.

I am waiting on the living story (and the festivals) to give me a reason to log in again. But it looks like it will be a long wait still. A shame as I’d love to play the game and have fun in it with something new. But I had a big gap in my playtime before, been away for nearly 1,5 years before. And I came back and had fun after. But if there would be no new Living story that could well mean I will have little reason to log in more then once in a blue moon just for the heck of it. And I will have little reason to till Living story drops.

Bored of HOT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

I’m “bored” of HoT in the sense that it didn’t give me as player the extra playtime and fun I hoped for. Mostly to do with real life making my dedicated playtime, half an hour here, small hour there. And for HoT that simply does not cut it, where in the core game I could get things done (and still can but I already done them to death by now and it grew stale).

HoT did have some fun things and I did spend a decent amount of time in it and done quite a few things (having a reaper and a ranger as mains helps as those seem to be the most forgiving classes for HoT (solo)). I still log in in the HoT areas some sessions and happen to walk into some event, get to an poi or such I didn’t get before or another thing to do and have fun. But often I feel like i am just aimlessly walking around like a headless chicken. Trying not to die, being besieged on all sides, trying to not get killed while trying to get somewhere to do something before time runs out. Often leaving me with an unsatisfied feeling when logging out. So HoT still has a pretty big barrier for me to jump in for various reasons.
HoT does really seem aimed at people with large windows of dedicated time and stay on your toes focus. I’m not one of those people.

So I am not sure if you would called that bored of HoT, but I do log in often in GW2 these days and kinda standing there not knowing what to do/attempt. Even if there is quite a bit of content I haven’t done properly yet in HoT. I won’t really say I am bored of GW2, but I do noticeably feel less pull to log in and stay logged in.

I am really ready for new content that is more accommodating my situation (call it limited time casual if you like). The raid wing isn’t gonna give that to me obviously, and I have no idea when to expect something else.

How would you play if death was permanent?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

I would not play. Most of my deaths have nothing to do with the game really but with real life. Being called away likely not long enough to log out but enough to possibly return to an online corpse is not uncommon for me. If the game punishes me for having to choose giving my 14 month old the attention when he wants/needs and having a character basically deleted due to it, the game is a no go for me. If it is there as option for people to flag a character as perma death on defeat, I would have no problem. Choice is good. If a game forces it on me I will say goodbye and never look back.

Is there a point to crafting I'm missing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

points of crafting:

- you get xp from crafting for faster leveling.
- When you are willing to do the market research and all that work there are some items that can make gold for crafting. But it’s only a few items worth while and the market shifts. I personally can’t help you with that as for me making it profitable is to much work and I don’t care for a in game job. But others do like it. Usually the timegated stuff is profitable.
- If you want to craft ascended weapons or gear and/or some legendaries you have to max out the fitting crafts as those things are account bound.
- It gives you something to do, satisfies the completionist tendecy of some people and it keeps you selfsufficient.

But yeah all crafted stuff you do while leveling are already pretty saturating the market as it is as all people leveling tend to make more then they need. So yes most of the time buying it outright from the TP is (way) cheaper. Crafting is mostly a money sink, not a moneymaker for most people.
For making money I would say selling all the materials instead of crafted items is way more profitable.

checkpoints, definitely checkpoints.

The whole thing has so many difficult and leathal jumps, combined with it being pretty timeconsuming even if you would get it right in one go, that failures and constantly having to start all over is dishearting.

I don’t mind hard jumps or failures, but the penalty is too harsh. Too many times I had to start over from the wp, like I had not done anything at all. And it’s hard enough that even with a lot of practice you can still slip and fall to your death on many points. Heck many times I don’t even get back to where is was and I quit it in frustration again, without feeling I gained anything for my efford. Next time will still be freaking hard.

Havingit be it cut into smaller bits with checkpoints would be way more fun, even with the rest the same as the challenge is fun in itsef. I would feel I could actually make progress. It’s the only core tyria jp I haven’t finished yet. those pipes launching me upward and having to land on the next. always get me. And a fall from there means starting all over again from waypoint.

As for trolls revenge. It is a complete new jp, all over LA roofs and such. I would suggest googling it as it’s very hard to explain.

Flying in central Tyria

I’m afraid the no flying zones will make gliding in LA bad. A better alternative would be to add a JP starter at the beginning of each JP that needs to be activated or else the chest won’t open. As long as you have the JP buff you can’t glide.

+1
Sounds like a perfect and remarkable simple solution to me and would keep all the jp’s untouched, and will prevent chest reaching shortcuts from other places bypassing most/all of the puzzle in some areas (if that can be done).
Well you still can without the (de)buff but it won’t open the chest you won’t get the achievement for finishing the puzzle. But you can glide around the area for fun sake if you feel like it without hitting a wall, no fly zone.

Would you please stop comparing it to mounted combat in LotRo and start comparing it to mounted combat in GW1?

In fact, GW2 already has what OP asks for in the form of transformations (Armors in Tarir, Oakhearts in the Sylvari starter area, etc). The only thing missing is to make the mount available on the whole map and to place a model of our character on top of it.

i can’t compare it to gw1, as i never played it. And thus lotro is the only one I CAN compare it to. I’m sorry that seems to upset you so. Well actually I could have compared it to GW2 transforms, but i didn’t think about that. So forget I ever said lotro and just read it like i said GW2 transforms instead if that makes you feel better.

Transformations itself would do the exact same thing for me as lotro mounted combat. I do not like transformations much for this exact same reason, and i don’t like a full replacement set of skills either for that reason in various personal stories. I picked the character I play for a reason as well as his/her skills. Really Lotro mounted combat there IS in my opinion an GW like transform (mountpants) that replaces all your skills with new ones when used but with added speed/different way of moving and made it close to mandatory (which is my pet peeve with it).

If mounted/transformation with it’s specific replacing skills is no stronger, just different from your normal skills I would have no problem with it. I won’t feel like i have to use it, but i can to mix things up when i would like (and options ios always good) It basically just gives each character more skills to switch to, like a engineers toolkit and so on, just called mount. If it becomes “mandatory” becouse it’s clearly the more powerful option, It would become a new meta you almost have to pick or needlessly nerf yourself. That is what I fear might happen. If it doesn’t…. bring on transformation fighting horsepants mounts for all I care. Then I don’t see any reason why I would be against it.

If you can use your own skills and none gets replaced mounted then all it really is is a speedboost with cosmetic horsepants. Again I would not mind this but it might make some fights even more trivial as enemies don’t have this speed advantage and i don’t see many people ever dismounting then where not forced.

If you can’t use your skills and you won’t get replacement skills either it is just the standard horsepants speedboost of many mmo’s. Which I would not mind either. But has obviously nothing to do anymore with mounted combat.

I personally would say no to mounted combat. Well maybe just in specific mounted combat arenas, but not in the open world. Lotro has it and while it sounded fun at first it is actually in retrospect the main reason i don’t play Lotro anymore. The whole feel of the game and your class changes. The character and skills you gathered and love become obsolete often becouse a mount can do it technically better/faster often in the mounted areas, in fact it’s often nerfing yourself greatly if you don’t, as it’s adjusted to mounted combat.
Basically I felt it replaced my character with another character if i didn’t want to have a way harder time doing thing, and I definitely preferred the original one. Also the world felt a lot smaller when you travel and fight on horseback and the enemies and spreading of groups of enemies had to be adjusted to mounted combat.

As for pure speedboost. I don’t think it’s needed with all the portals and the speed boost skills, but i don’t see any harm in it either and it would be fun to have more looks (in the shape of mounts to gather). But please an auto dismount in the big cities to prevent piling up of huge mount butts on top of a vendor and so on.

Gliding in Central Tyria confirmed!

And every single jumping puzzle in the game just became trivialized and you can bet countless players will find ways to skip most of the hard parts.

GJ.

It could actually add to the difficulty as well. Overshooting and/or not seeing the landingspot by being overshadowed by the wings folding out and gliding. Working around wings popping at inconvenient times makes jumping a lot harder. I’m not actually sure gliding in jp’s is a plus.

And there are very few areas it will actually be helpfull as you basically can do just much longer “jumps with a less steep angle down”. And you can land yourself in a lot of places here that prevent you dying instead of falling down, that might get you into unrecoverable spaces jp wise (aka not being able to get back to a point where you can continue the jp). But I could save a few deaths, but it can also cause drops down you otherwise would not have had (see overshooting).

But Jp’s aside. It would be fun to be able to glide on core Tyria, gives some new stuff to do and ways to view it. But if they implement it i sure hope it’s available for everyone with HoT with the mastery unlocked (those two are locical as that’s needed to unlock gliding in the first place) and not locked behind stuff only the top end players (skill, wealth or available time) can reach.

Can't avoid Jumping Puzzles? Why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

If you call the cliffside fractal a “Jumping Puzzle” then you really have issues with it :P
Mesmers can port you there, if you play as mesmer, ele or thief you can skip everything.

Mesmers can port you so you don’t have to do the jumops yourself. That’s true.
But I don’t believe any class you can play has a skill that can do a jump for you (aka skip). Granted some have port skills, but the forward ones only jump to places you could normally walk to, so no jumping. And a mesmer/necro portal only makes you able to swap between two places you been before. So you drop a portal where you are to get back. It won’t get you forward. You still need to get there yourself first if you are the mesmer. So i am wondering which skills you mean, or which way an ele, thief or mesmer can skip anything, let alone everything, and with which skills.

The best jump (forward) “skill” i found to do “jumping for you” is the experimental gun item, which any class high level enough can use. But i doubt that will make it easier.

How would you react?

zeldara.4127

The above is true (not disputing the fact that seperating true money and currency leads to a disconnection in realisation how much money the stuff actually si and it is easier spend). But it isn’t 100 true for the fact that you can simply buy the for instance 62 cents you still need in credits by gathering some in game gold and getting the gems to order exactly. Granted someone bought those gems for sale in the tp in a larger increment though, but still.

Though while the above is technical true it isn’t the full situation which does change the whole thing.

But yeah, translating the gem prices to real money for each store item if i were to buy the gems outright, makes almost all items more expensive then I am willing to pay for. Even if i am not against spending money on games i like. It is why I don’t buy gems for real money to buy in store stuff, but have no problem spending gems i earn though playing the games. So i am glad others do wish to spend money on gems.
I do like GW2, it’s why i bought HoT even if I am not all that impressed by the expansion and a lot in it simply isn;’t for me, but after all this time i thought some investing in the game I like was good, the expansion was a logical thing for it)

Ugly Wool Glider skin now available

As for people complaining it is a store item and not in festival reward… this is my take on it and why I feel differently.

I played the bell choir and other things at leisure and as long as I found it fun, to get the gifts, the drinks and such in them I sold. I turned that gold into gems, bought the gift mini and unlocked the ugly sweater skin glider.

In my feel it all came from the winter festival and became a wintersday reward.

Ok instead of directly gathering up festival tokens with the games to buy a gift miniature and sweater glider skin quest starter from an wintersday npc, I saved up (gold for) gems doing the same thing and the store was the “NPC”. Ok looks less festive I grand you that. And all over I don’t think this way would have taken longer or needed a different approach then if it was an holiday token gathering for the reward from the same games.

Buying HoT without base game?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

If you apply the HoT code to a second account that account will have core game and HoT completely unlocked, regardless of what is was. The first account will remain exactly as it is now. Won’t change a bit, won’t get anything unlocked and you will have no code to put on that one either.

You do not get 2 codes, one for HoT and one for base. You just get one upgrade to HoT unlock which simply happens to include unlocking the core game in one swoop if that wasn’t done yet (so in f2p accounts).

So up to you to decide if having a fresh full HoT unlocked account and a account you have now staying exactly as it is, is more worthwhile then upgrading your only account to HoT and have all you achieved so far be in the upgraded account as a result.

This is what i feared for Guild Halls

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

I agree that the guildhalls seem a bit empty, well quite a bit, as far as life goes.
Smaller instances would have helped instead of the size of half a land-map. Even if there are multiple people inside they still feel lost among the huge space and it still feels empty. It’s not cosy enough, then again maybe if the tavern is fully unlocked it is a nice gatheringspace. But no matter what, life can’t come by order of the developpers, it’s the players that need to make it lively. Give guildmembers a reason to get there. Anet can provide a place for a social gathering, but it can not make a social gathering, that will have to be done by people, who arrange to gather. Taking people out of the open world by placing all stuff people gather for now in cities, like banks, craftstations and such, by having it convenient in a guildhall I would not like. I rather have guildhalls feel empty then the open world.

Seperate instances in a city, if it were even possible, which i seriously doubt for above given reasons, won’t change this. If people don’t give eachother reasons to socially gather they won’t, regardless of where the gathering place is.

The only way i see city guildhalls be viable technically if if they could make it a few doors max that lead to a instance, which you can pick from a list of guilds. Do ther are multiple copies of the same guildinstance, pretty much like there are now. But then everyone could enter them. Which can be it’s own can of worms, as visitors are not always wanted, and the can be griefers. But basically a idea like in Lotro. But suprice suprice, those instances feel dead and empty too. It will remain up to the players tk give players a reason to be there.

Ok Texas Jack above me posted while i was typing. but yeah pretty much what he said.

Thanks for the tips and info so far. Definitely learned some new things already. And I can’t believe I missed the little locks on the map on the adventures, facepalm…

As for what kind of progression I am after. Anything that makes me feel I achieved something. That can be in small things. Getting a new mastery, getting a new gear look, exploring a new part of the map, getting some nice loot, and some gold to save up for gems for fun things from the store. My progression is not in ascended and legendary or raiding or big goals like that. Don’t care for that as the gear isn’t needed for the stuff i can do in my limited uninterupted time anyway.
Having fun, and have something to show for the time i played, that’s my aim.

Best progression HoT with limited time?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

zeldara.4127

Hi all,

This is not a complaint post. I just want to have some tips from people who played the new areas more then I have. All suggestions are appreciated when ment well.

My life at the moment, and for a long time to come, simply does not include more then an hour of uninterrupted time in game, if even that. And I can never really plan it either.

Core Tyria is easy to know what to do and finish things as nothing takes very long or can be interrupted. But I do that enough as it is (I still like it) and have had that content for years already. I would prefer some new stuff to mix it up, hence me buying HoT.

HoT though is a different matter. The meta’s are way to long for me. I more often then not grab a bit in the middle and have to go before it ends again. And it seems reward wise (loot and xp) HoT is mostly about the meta-events, and the rest feels not so rewarding. But I might simply be overwhelmed a bit. Hence me asking you all, what activities and things can i do best in HoT that still gives a decent amount of loot and or xp (compared to the time played/work done, don’t expect it to be the best of the best obviously, just viable. But that does not demand a big uninterrupted time investment before a payoff. And is fun to do obviously, farming the same mob over and over isn’t it obviously ^^

I thought about doing some of the adventures. But somehow they seem to be almost always unavailable when I reach one. Is there a way to see which ones are active at a given moment without actually going there to check?

Also is there a timer somewhere that shows how long the time till meta completion still is (or rather day timer, as i only seem to see dusk and night counting down), so i can estimate how big the chance is I might see the end of it (and get the participation reward).

I kinda feel like the OP about experiences. Don’t differ really from mine for the parts i have experience in. Ok I don’t want to leave the game over it. But I do run into the exact same things and feelings. It makes me wonder why to bother with the new maps save the something new and I didn’t pay 50 bucks to not use the content I payed for, even if just a part. So I keep giving it a go every now and then till it starts to frustrate me, or leave when due to other reasons it basically is a waste to spend my time there (like not being able to log in long enough for the meta event to finish, so work i done won’t be rewarded anyway so feels like i done it for nothing and am better off spending the time elsewhere. The events aren’t that fun to do just for doing them, especially if not in a full organised map. Then it’s a exercise in frustration and walking back again after being dead again and again (or more accurate running warp 8 and pray you get back in time and not murdered on the road).

And often by now i ignore events completely (and probably scaling up difficulty by doing this, sorry guys who want to finish it). Even if there are events going on if i can’t see the end of the meta anyway. I do use that time in the expansion to explore little bits though if not all wp’s are contested, open up bits of the map where I can. Atleast that feels like some progress. I have no clue how to get into dragon stand though.

The warp 8 speed running paragraph made me chuckle, a bit of a bitter one though, it’s so recognizable

Do you regret pre-purchasing HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

Regret… no.

Do I think I personally got my money’s worth. No not really. But that’s also due to the sort of player I am. I like wandering, messing about. Do a little bit here and a little bit there, and not have to commit a lot of time in one sitting uninterrupted to get things done. Well that last i would like to do but being the mom to a not yet year old child simply makes that impossible. That said I have adjusted my expectations of the amount of stuff the expansion would give me with my own limitations (not Anet’s fault afteral) but even then I fall quite a bit short on what I was expecting.

The new maps are a bit more unfriendly to one in my situation then I expected (and all 3/4? are meta event stuff mostly it feels like Silverwastes. And me only very rarely being able to participate and be online begin to end makes it a waste of time often. And the map difficulty is higher then expected, I personally would have liked a bit more layed back stuff in the expansion as well. This so I feel I could do a bit more solo and not feeling like i am battling uphill both ways for little reward. So yeah yes a bit like core Tyria. I expected a lot to NOT be like that. I didn’t quite count on close to nothing being like that. Doesn’t make it bad content, just unfortunately content that does not suit me well. So that makes the pricetag a bit more painful.

What is a great redeemer though is that I love the heck out of my reaper. And the adjustment to 250 HP’s instead of 400 made the full unlock within my reach. Just unlocked it all 30 minutes ago… whoot.

And hey having HoT means that if I log in for the new chapters of the LS I get those too atleast.

My problem is that if i find my way to a bigger group doing an event, and i die and don’t get rezzed. As is very likely due to the amount aoe killing people, rezzers and those still fighting alike, and people don’t always rezz. Or try to keep up with the train to not loose it and have no time to rezz. I have died a fair few times rezzing others and not getting the same back. Or you accidentally fall off, get pushed off, jump off, misglide into another layer. I often do not find the way back, at all, or in time to join up the event again before it’s done. Or when being forced solo this way to get back the mobs on the way kill me as i need to tackle them alone now. And often it also means no reward no matter how much i already done as I get a “no longer participating due to inactivity to event” or some such while trying to get back.

This is no fun.

Also blindly trying to keep up with a zerg to murder the heck out of mobs with stuff exploding everywhere skill visuals wise, isn’t all that fun either. Don’t think difficulty and rewards should for a great deal be dependant if you are lucky enough to find and catch up to a zerg, and stick with it. And maybe not even rezzing for fear of loosing said zerg.

Sure i manage to do some things solo, and yes I can have fun that way even if it’s a bit more of a fight both ways then I would like around every corner. But it really feels like a extreme disadvantage doing it this way, way harder (at times in my opinion overtuned) way less rewards, whether by choice or forced.

I know this is sort of off topic, but can you hide the helm with the outfits?

Yes you can. hide the helm in your regular wardrobe and the one in your costume should disappear too. I do this all the time. It can be a tad buggy. usually taking a portal, or relogging fixes it if the helm keeps showing. This only works for the helm.

this is important to me else i would not have used costumes. I tend to dislike headgear 99% of the time. Not that headgear looks bad, just personal taste. I like to see my toons head, face and hair.

Confirmed: 250 hero points to unlock elites

YAY, this news made me happy and suddenly a lot less buyers remorse like. I played reaper a bit and LOVE it. And now I can actually play it viable while playing the expansion. I think 250 is perfect. It still needs a decent amount of work to unlock, so you have worked for it and earned it, but you can get it soon and easy enough to get much use out of it and also make it viable for alts. Think 250 is the perfect sweetspot personally, so this news made me happy

Me having an almost 10 moth old baby and thus time to seek and commit to a group is always uncertain. Baby goes first, think little dependant human is always more important then a game, but i don’t want to inconvenience others, so I am usually pretty hesitant grouping up, for fear of having to abandon them while we do quests etc. I don’t mind a few deaths due to being afk, but don’t want to do that to others. And the mew maps makes deaths like this very very inconvenient to me as it takes forever to get places and there are not many wp’s handy. And much group events and hard enemies to fight through to even get back. I gotten pretty good at finding safe spots when I need to go quickly. It’s ok but not so much if it’s because i run into group only content all the time.

Having the HP’s (and other character progression) needing a coordinated bigger group, makes is very hard for me to count on getting these done. i hoped atleast open world was something i could solo, as well as the mayority of character progression, even if it was slower going. but it seems almost impossible. Raids and such i already counted on as a loss for me as well there needs to be group content and hard content, and Annet can not and should not change that to accompany my personal situation. But This, just open world, character progression, story and hero points… that should be soloable I think. Now i have to be very lucky with timing to even have a shot at it. Kinda demotivating to play.

Third Female Human Body Type Option

I like the hourglass option if it would be added for females as long as it looks natural. But what I would really like is a breastsize for female Norn that isn’t as big as they pretty much all are now. Not talking about really small breasts, though I would welcome that option. Just not all of them being on the big to huge side as they are now.

But yeah all over I think the norn have the best female costumisation options.

as for female humans, or really females all over. Some more adult faces would be nice too. They are almost all in the child/teenager/young adult range. I get that most mmo’s feel they have to make all woman pretty/sexy. But that does not have to be all young in my opinion.

Legendary gear is not "Legendary"

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

zeldara.4127

I find most of the legendary weapons over the top. To much effects going on and such for my taste. I for instance would not mind not having the footfall effects (or make them more subtle), though there are a few that are alright. But this is my personal taste. I will likely never make one of the present ones, also due to cost and effort needed and not really finding any nice enough to do that. But I do have to admit the over the top-ness of them does make them stand out. You recognize them from afar. I do get a smile when i see someone walking past with one. But they are simply not for me and i am completely fine with that. I would like the horse sound of the pony-bow to be less grating though. I think the whole bow is original as heck (not my taste but that’s irrelevant), but the annoying sound when someone next to me uses it over and over does make me move away from them.

More looks would be great, regardless on if I ever make them or not. Besides plenty of people worked hard to get them as they are now, no need to force a change on them.

What does buying HOT get you?

As i understood from reading various sources:

You get Living story season 3+ chapters for free IF:
- you log in while the chapter is active (even if for just a second, you don’t have to do it in that time if it’s like season 2. Miss this probably 2 week window you can buy access in the gemstore to that chapter afterwards but it also needs HoT.)
- you have technical access to the content while it’a active (for 3+ that means you only get access if you have HoT at that time).

I hope I am wrong at this though and that even if you don’t have HoT but do log in while the LS3+ is active, you unlock it for future use, even if you can’t do it yet without HoT. But the above seems what most sources seem to say.

I have no idea what exactly you want to say or ask, but here goes. My personal view:

Guild wars CORE game is free with RESTRICTIONS till you are a paying costumer. You become one by either having bought the core game in the past (so old players already are, just the new free download players aren’t) or by buying the new expansion. The later everyone has to do to be able to play the expansion, regardless of already being a paying costumer or becoming one by buying the expansion.

I am a paying costumer as i have bought the core game years ago. So yeah I bought the now free game (but obviously i don’t have the restrictions free to play has so i don’t have exactly the free game, I have better, then again i payed for that obviously.) I have not bought the new expansion yet as I so far knowing what i know feel it’s overpriced. Had i been a totally new player i probably would have bought it as it would also have meant restriction removal.

So I would have gained more by buying it making it feel more it’s money’s worth. I never once thought the core game was overpriced and i gladly payed it and sure found i got my money’s worth. I don’t feel the expansion will give me my money’s worth yet. So I am waiting till I feel it does. This has nothing to do with core game going free or whatnots.

Why not?!

Why, if we complete all of this living story we can’t have token to exchange for new fused weapons?

This RNG with black lion is just crap.

Agreed. There’s no point in adding new content if there is no reward for doing it. 2000 karma and 6 silver is hardly a reward.

I would not say there is no point in new content if there is no reward for it. I would turn it around even generally speaking, without content rewards are pretty pointless. If the content is fun/interesting to do it’s it’s own reward (for me atleast), and more then enough reason for me to do it and enjoy it.
That said, having also a reward for it makes it more rewarding and fun and the content stands out more (like the karka bag I got which reminds me of the event when I see it). And in case of none fun content a reward might be the only drive to do it.

I do really like the look of the new skins. And I do find it a shame I won’t get them. I am not willing to farm the gold for keys for the small chance and even less so shell out real life money for it. So I will do without. On the other hand I do feel it fair that the ones who are willing to spend money and take the gamble get these weapons skins. Anet needs money as games (and their upkeep) don’t come for free. And I do think a lot of players (including me) get quite a bit of free content. Even without it I do think the money I payed for the base game is more then it’s money worth. So all I get for free is a gift. So I am happy. I am aware not everyone would agree on this.

I would have liked it if the new skins would have been not RNG but out right buyable in the store. I still would not have gotten them, but people willing to buy gems atleast get a guarantee their money is spend on what they want.(especially for real money, as it supports anet, something I am to cheap to do for mini transactions i don’t need, though i without doubt would buy an expansion).

I do hope we get a reward at the end though. Does not have to be these skins for me at all. Just to remember the event by and have something event unique.

Would you pay a subscription to play GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

No I would not pay a monthly fee for an MMO anymore. Which one is irrelevant. But yes it also works for GW2 due to this stance. I payed the monthly fees before for mmo’s … en I stopped all of them in the end because of that.
I have played none subscription MMO’s, bought stuff for them… stopped them, came back sometimes quite a while later… and bought new stuff with renewed interest (usually an expansion).

I love the fact that I don’t feel “forced” to “play or else feeling i’m throwing money away”. That i feel when I have payed to be able to play and pay that regardless of life/mood allows me to play or not. And the feeling that when I am not paying anymore all I done will be rendered pointless as it is out of reach I dislike strongly too. And discourages trying out payed MMO’s anymore or picking them back up.

Non fee MMO’s see me coming back time and time again, while payed ones get their door closed on them forever once I decide to leave. I don’t like to have to pay again to see if I have to catch up, feeling rushed there and in the end have payed andd never reached that catch up goal anyway (I am a relative slowly progressing casual player and prefer to be that.) Subscription MMO’s tend to come with this gear race, and thus catch up. As that’s ment to keep you invested. Though after a break it’s partly that which prevents me getting invested again.

I much rather pay for extra content and such, after owning the base of the game. So expansions, fun store things (non obligated, though I have no problem with the stuff giving a little edge in some cases, as long as it’s little).

Making them bound on equipt (after which they become bound on account) would solve the what I guess is why they are account bound. Meaning non trade able to other players, otherwise the store doesn’t sell as many as they hope, as the few bought ones just keep going round. Well it can be done once still (which is the whole point) but not indefinitely.
But yeah as it stands with instant BOA, they are pretty pointless for valentine. Gifts that can’t be gifted but have to be self bought kinda loose their meaning.

Crafting is not attractive

in Crafting

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

I don’t generally craft in any MMO seriously. I start it in almost any but give up soon because it often is tedious for me, with little return and little I can’t get another way due to other people selling the stuff. What is my drive to spend money and time … when i can much easier and cheaper have others do it for me?

So I agree with the OP. I’d like more fun and more unique to the crafter (soulbound) items instead of all generic and buyable for a fraction of the cost from the TP directly. The only real benefit for crafting right now seems to be the XP gain and giving in to a completist nature.

There has been one noticeable exception to the rule… one craft I really found fun and rewarding. Unfortunately it isn’t in GW2, so forgive me for pointing at another MMO, it was engineering in WOW. And it had all to do with fun gadgets (that could backfire), utilities and fun consumable items that you could not get any other way (soulbound or atleast requiring having the craft learned), even if some took quite a bit of money and time investment. With various degrees of actual in game usefulness… but I loved them all.

The discovery panel I find fun, but only for cooking (and that one is a beast due to to many intermediate crafts to discover/make the next one, leading to severe inventory problems and almost need to cheat by using web GW2 cooking-books (which i don’t)… taking out a bit of the discovery fun). The rest of the crafts seem mostly to systematical to count as true discoveries in feel.

Cooking is bloated

in Crafting

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

I generally don’t like crafting in games unless you can make fun stuff or consumables (and even then I am lazy with it). Because I can at least use what i made, while for any other craft i always in every game seem to be behind in crafting to what I can use (so I always have better by the time i make something already).

Cooking for me is fun, and a huge part of it is the, what I like to call, “Guess the recepy game”. So I would not like to change that.

Yes cooking for yourself does seem like a huge money waster if food on the TP is cheap as heck, so you are almost always spending more making it yourself. But you get the guessing game, please the completist and a fair amount of xp back. And as far as I seen pretty much all crafts are money sinks and you are better off just selling base mats you gather and buy what you need.

But what I do strongly dislike about it, almost hate, is the HUGE amount of intermediate cooking ingredients that don’t go into the special cook-materials tab of the bank. People before me voiced it perfectly. So I will only add. For me to really safe the fun in this craft and the only thing I personally wish for:

Add the homemade cooking materials to the tab please!

Would be a great feature for all crafts by the way. Though with cooking it’s gotten to the point of being silly.

@OP: Emmm don’t let the door hit you on the way out? Seriously. This is a game and if it’s not fun for you by all means leave. And I won’t think any less of you… But honestly I won’t miss you either. It’s the smart thing to do, though drama exists like this do little to no good, if anything at all. Well the venting frustration might make you feel better, there is that. There is no single justification to have something that is not obligated in any shape or form and meant purely for entertainment stress you out and then stay with it. If it stops being fun for the love of all that people hold holy get away from it as it is stress you don’t need and don’t have to have and you are not likely to add something positive to the community in that state anyway (in fact likely the opposite if it doesn’t hold constructive critism the creators can do something with). But really… it is just a game, a time eater, pixels on a screen… hardly stuff to get wind up about in the grand scheme of thing.

Make stow pet permanent if required

in Ranger

Posted by: zeldara.4127

zeldara.4127

I most surely vote for the permanent stowing of the pet till i myself want it to pop back out. There are a fair few situations where the pet is more of a time consumer/deathtrap/nuisance then a help. The aggro and enemies it delivers to me due to pathing I would not otherwise had to fight. Blocking my view. Triggering traps and such I try to avoid, heck even truly avoided. Getting me not invited to an instance or even kicked from a group because the group liked to have me but didn’t want the aggro-magnet that was tacked on to me that prevented them a faster run through/shortcuts due to dumb pathing issues. The pet had to go so so did I. That does get frustrating.

While it’s not game breaking for me, and I am generally a pets-class loving player (I tend to pick pet classes in most of the MMO’s I play, and I do know about pet micromanagement), in Guild Wars the downsides of a pet do annoy me far more often then it has in any other game. The micromanagement works not that well actually and a lot of things you can’t seemingly control.

The pet side-effects have killed me a few times where I otherwise would not have died. And it has gotten me into a respawn aggro/combat-lock loops in fast respawn areas.

On the other hand I have a lot of situations where the pet did help me out too ofcourse. I definitively don’t want to play a pet-less ranger. But i like some solo walking time option even if it does hamper my dps while doing that. So BIG VOTE for permanent stowing of the pet, and I don’t even need some power compensation for when it is stowed, though it would be nice.

There are things i think could have been done better in the game and I have my wishes and expectations that might or might not be met. Discussing those is good and helps Anet better the game if they can and listen, but i don’t understand the anger, negativity and emotions that seem to flare with it occasionally in some (pointing at no one in particular) players. Especially when the event isn’t even live yet.

My view on things (feel free to disagree) is that already I got a huge amount of hours of fun for just 60 euro (that’s about 5 movies and GW2 sure entertained me for longer already, and I am not even nearly done with it). So maybe it makes a big difference that I think I already got great value for money.

Of course I like if I get even more. And I do in the form of free extra content to entertain me with the festivals and such. So maybe that’s why I am pretty easily content with the festivals even with their flaws and issues.

I likely won’t like everything of the Wintersday stuff. But even if I only like a few things, that’s still free fun. It’s all optional anyway. But yeah I do hope they deliver something I will enjoy, in whatever shape of form. If they do I will feel that for me personally it is a success. And I of course hope it will be a big one

And going by what I heard so far I am looking forward to it and having good hopes I will have fun with it.
