Also interesting… Legancy of the Foefire, Forest of Niflhel, and Battle of Kyhlo have the lowest SD between teams.

Just looking over the data for the last day. With the exception of Courtyard, which seems to get a lot of blowouts, increasing min potentials seems to have a caused decrease in end-game scores between teams. I think that’s a pretty safe metric to gauge the competitiveness of a match, does anyone have any thoughts on that?
I upped it by another 25, but I don’t feel it’s safe to go any further until we get something in to automatically drop it back down during off-peak hours.

It starts pretending that some people with a low skill actually have a higher skill than they do. It is called the “padding” variable. It pretends that a weak team is actually not weak, and then matches it with a waiting team of veterans.
Close, but it’s more likely to happen the other way around. We match players by the lower bound of their rating (i.e. rating – deviation), so it’s more often that it starts pretending veterans are weak.
This only kicks in if someone has been waiting in the queue for 4 minutes.

I would like to know if the unrevealed world map resembles the actual map of Tyria.
In the unrevealed version of Dry Top we could see a ring we can’t see in Dry Top by any means. The unrevealed map of the Silverwastes indicates a huge lake we can’t see in the final map. Do the revealed and unrevealed map still fit together or is the unrevealed map outdated?
The unrevealed (over) map can turn out to be outdated in places, because we reserve the right to make changes as we build new maps, for design/story/art reasons, and the artist who created that overmap art didn’t have that information to reference at the time (I used to be an environment artist at our studio).
0 improvements so far for me in unranked queue.
I only updated ranked. Unranked now has the same settings.

The point is you would probably be waiting forever on some nights since the game’s population is so tiny. You might be okay with that, but a lot of people aren’t.
Yeh you would literally wait from about midnight till 2 pm. 14 hours queue time anyone? :P
EU has a much strong drop off in off-peak hours. It’s like they all go to bed at the same time or something.

I am looking at the matchmaking wiki. Perhaps it would be worth making the rating padding only kick in at 3 minutes or something instead of 30 seconds? And maybe it is worth increasing the minimum number of rosters that must be looked at from 20 to something like 50? Anyone else think this might help?
The padding could be the issue as its the high rated players experiences most of the problems.
That would help, but I’m wary of the impact it would have on queue times.

Interesting. The prediction that you would win each of those matches was 92-99%. I’ll keep looking to see if I can find out why you’re getting paired so far downward.

Because not accepting is also dishonor it is a catch 22, either way you lose.
Dishonor is disabled right now. Also, the dishonor for not accepting is much lower than the dishonor for leaving a match.

We’ve created and deployed a new configuration option ‘Rating/@profession-ratio’. This new option controls the balance between your core rating and profession rating.
Since we were not previously tracking rating for professions, everyone’s profession rating started at the default level. This turned out to have more of an impact on matchmaking than we anticipated, hence this change.
Until everyone’s profession rating stabilizes, we’re going to set the ratio to ‘0’, meaning profession ratio isn’t being included at all.
We’ve also seeded unranked arena rating data with same data we used to seed ranked arena, so you should see improvements there as well.
Please let us know if you notice any improvement in your match quality.

Hello All,
There was quite a lot of discussion around the proposal of removing white swords from objectives in WvW. We understand there are concerns about how this change might work in practice or how player behavior may change as a result of it. We felt like the best way to understand fully the impact, and give players a chance to see for themselves how it directly changes the WvW experience is to let people try it and see what they think.
We have decided to run a special multi-week event in WvW where we’ll be changing some of the “rules” of WvW for a limited time. This event will feature two major rule changes while it is running: we are planning to remove white swords from objectives, and add points per kill in WvW to the over-all score for the duration of this event. We are currently targeting December for this event but will keep you posted when we have dates nailed down for certain. If this type of event is successful, we may look to do more events like this in the future where for short periods of time the rules of WvW are changed to different rules, scoring and scenarios to help both keep the game fresh, as well as to change up the experience and try new fun things for WvW.

The temporary rule changes will be implemented with the release on December 16 and will last until the first release of the new year.

Not critique, it was just the first time I saw it and now I’m curious!
Basically a joke name using the Sclerite weapons …
Not to derail this conversation, but here’s a peek behind the curtain: when I was coming up with a name for the creepy weapon set created for our ‘Secret of Southsun’ release, I was looking for a term that would evoke ancient sea creatures and also the disturbing eyes on these weapon skins and decided to reference the Greek root skleros, which means “hard, cruel, fierce.”
The word for the white portion of our eyes, sclera, comes from this root, as does the biological term sclerite, the hardened portion of an arthopod exoskeleton.

I figured the voice was different because this is 20+ years ago prior to her going completely insane, before there was a Nightmare Court.
I didn’t mind it.
This is what we were going for. We used the same actress, Julianne Buescher, who also voiced Faolain in the core game Personal Story.
That makes a lot of sense to me. However, my question is: Why does she seem to lack the accent that all the other Sylvari have?
Most, but not all, sylvari have the same accent. This was intentional and can be heard throughout the game. Occasionally, an actor’s performance may deviate and that might explain any inconsistencies in certain lines during a VO session.
That stated, I never perceived Faolain as having a British accent but more of a refined manner of speaking. Courtly, formal.
Is it only queuing as a team that doesn’t work?

Everyone started with fresh profession ratings, which is bringing everyone closer to default ratings when mixed with their previous team arena rating. We’re going to update the configs so that profession rating has less of an impact so the match quality should go up.

I’d like to address the continuity issue in the Newly Awakened story instance of episode 7. In it, players have a conversation with Malomedies where he says, “We went so long without losing one of our own, but three of our newly awakened have been killed already. This is unacceptable.” He then goes on to say about Riannoc, “I worry about Riannoc. He’s going so far from home. What if he never returns?”
As some have helpfully pointed out, this is at odds with Caithe’s dialog in the Personal Story, where she mentions, “Riannoc was the first sylvari to meet death. We never knew what happened…” This is an error (a.k.a. text bug) that was introduced during the development of episode 7 and was not caught by anyone on the team or in our playtest groups. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. We’re going to fix the conversation text in episode 7 in an upcoming patch so that it is in line with the Personal Story.
On a related note, I should clarify this bit of dialog from the Personal Story, where Caithe says, “…We all felt it when he [Riannoc] died. It was like a part of the Dream was torn away—but we never knew why. Or how.” The sylvari did not feel Riannoc’s death as it happened, but reacted emotionally once they found out about it (such as when a loved one is lost). Caithe is speaking figuratively, not literally, here.

You should really use the Official API though, we provide zero guarantees that we won’t break everything out from underneath you if you’re going against the TP directly.

I agree, Behellagh. I think the term is overused and used poorly.
To try to address some of the comments about “white knights,” we’re looking for people who know the game, participate in the forums, and engage well with others. These qualities means they won’t have a “speckled history” of a large number of forum infractions, suspensions, or what-have-you’s. We look for decent writing skills and a genuine interest in helping other players and our dev team with this project.
As to “white knights,” they can be white, brown, purple, or fuchsia polka dot.
They can be male or female, any age above 18, and from any part of the country. A qualifier is not “Do they post only good stuff about the game?” but more “Do they express themselves clearly and fairly?”
I know we have a lot of forum members like that, and I hope they’ll consider helping out.
