Selling LS achievements ?

This is an interesting question. Looking for Group (LFG) could include the sale of a run, sure. I’d rather do a run with willing players than buy one, but it’s ok if someone offers an honest run and legitimately fulfills the offer.

Does that mean it’s ok to offer the sale of merchandise in that channel? No. There’s no way that LFG = WTS.

The tweet (which is more than a year old, btw) refers to selling spots in a party. Run sales are not prohibited, but they fall into the “Gentleman’s Agreement” space. So if someone tries to sell a spot on his run for in-game currency, and if someone else is willing to pay, we’d not act against it. The matter gets cloudy if either party reneges on the agreement: Fails to supply the offered service; fails to pay the agreed amount. In that case, Customer Service looks for and takes action on obvious signs of scamming, but does not try to force the fulfillment of these player-to-player arrangements. (Just like they don’t try to resolve player-to-trading situations. Be safe: Use the bloomin’ TP. Please.) So CS would consider whether the non-payer or the person who didn’t fulfill the agreement was an obvious scammer and act, but they’d not make arrangements to resolve financial issues, like refund monies paid, etc.

I really think you need to get a Thesaurus, okay? You seem to be really overdoing the use of okay, but let me tell you it’s not always okay.
Surely the occasional alright, very well, fine or good could be thrown in now and then, okay?
There were some episodes where it seemed like every other line had an okay or 2 or 3 which I found somewhat annoying.

Okay, got it.

I’ve been noticing since the last patch that disconnecting mid match will also not count as a win to your record and you also get no post match rewards, and you’re saying that it will now also give dishonour?

I’m not certain the no post-game rewards is accurate. I believe you still get those.

I’m sorry but that is incredibly harsh. I played a courtyard game a couple days ago, dc’d mid match but reconnected. Team still won and I still scored personal points. It got counted as a loss, and I recieved no post-game rewards and now I will also get dishonoured for something completely out of my control? Was the first and only dc that day, had no way of knowing it would happen so it’s not like I just decide to not queue when internet is feeling sluggish.

Dishonor works on an exponential curve. The first time will have a small timeout. It’s repeat offenders who will be hit the hardest. Even a small disconnect can have a negative impact on the other players in the game.

This isn’t even taking into account the dishonour you get for simply not accepting the queue pop (Which is utterly ridiculous and should never be implemented).

We felt a minor amount of dishonor (and queue dodging has the smallest of all types) was a good way to discourage trolling by constantly declining match pops.

Due to the new system you’re already forced to sit in HoM, and now you can’t even afk for the 10-15minutes the queue may take to pop???

Aside from a bug that will be fixed on the Tuesday 16th, you shouldn’t be getting 10-15 minute pops. Let me know if you do get long queues after Tuesday.

harsh dishonour systems will make people stop pvping.

We have different standards of what is harsh, as does nearly everyone on the forum. We can only try to implement systems that works for as many people as possible.

Here are a couple of links that include more details on how dishonor is implemented.

Our bunkers normally don’t enter the match as their bunker character, and also experience disconnect. We normally take care to make sure if someone disconnects they atleast earn points before the match ends but could there be abandonment penalties for swapping or DCing?

Yes, disconnecting or changing professions will count as desertion, and give that player dishonor. They will also be scored on the ladder as if they had a full loss, meaning as if their team had scored 0 points.

These people made huge contributions to the outcome of the game but are actually losing points on the leaderboard even when we win.

They shouldn’t be loosing points for wins (unless they desert). We base the amount of ladder points awarded on team score, not personal score.

The rest of your post seems premised off the same idea, that the ladder is based on personal score instead of team score. Am I wrong? Or, are you suggesting we should base it on personal score?

If you want, I can review your account to see if there is anything odd going on.

We’ve merged several threads about bugs with this story section of Episode 5 in order to get everyone the most current information on this situation.

The team is trying to replicate the bug and identify issues that might prevent someone from completing the storyline. Here are a few questions they’d like to ask:

  • Do you have multiple level 80s on your account that you were taking through the episode?
  • Were you in a group and if so, were you the instance owner?
  • Did you switch from Episode 05 to a later episode before you completed Episode 05 for the first time?
  • Have you been able to complete Episode 05 at least once?

With your answers to these questions, the team hopes to be able to test using different variables that will enable them to nail down what the core issue is, then take care of correcting that issue.

Thanks for the help with this perplexing problem!

I really feel disheartened by this 6 week break now.

I hope I don’t sound unsympathetic to your plight, but as a content creator and dev, we could have a lot worse problems than our players being impatient to find out what happens next. If it helps, I am as impatient as you to have our next episode get released, and as hopeful as you that you will really like it.

By all means, continue to direct your writing criticisms at me. It may not seem like it at times to you (bearing in mind that we’re working ahead), but are we doing our best to make course-corrections to address your concerns.

I wish you (and all our fans) a great holiday season as well. Thank you for nearly two and a half years of your support, strong feelings, and constructive criticism. You guys are the best!

One other thing…

First, I want to high light this portion of Peter’s post, IMO, this points out that what we’ve been seeing up till now was already set in stone before Ms. Hoyer joined A.net and she had no effect on it what so ever, but that in the future, perhaps beginning with Ep. 8 more likely Season 3 we’ll begin to see what kind of input she’s had and the direction the LW is moving towards.

While it’s true that Leah joined us while we were well into developing our latest releases, I can assure you that she jumped right in and began giving us her input from the moment she arrived. She had plenty of positive effect on this part of our season and she’ll continue to help us improve our story delivery. Any of the parts you didn’t like were almost certainly my fault.

Leagues in PVP leaderboards

How would we determine your league? By that, I mean, do we place you in a league based on the MMR at the start of the season? 10 days after the season starts? Or, do we let you move between leagues as your MMR goes up and down throughout the season? Do we let people pick their own league?

What sort of implications does this have for matchmaking? Do we only let people fight others in their league? If yes, this could cause long queue times, especially in the upper leagues. If we let people fight players from any league does the current odds of victory point handicapping still fit?

How does this affect rewards? If we rewarded the top 150 players, do we now only reward the top 50 in each league? If we split rewards by league, doesn’t that imply locking people into a league at the start?

I like this discussion, but keep in mind, I’m not a designer and be kind to me if I don’t know the answer to these sorts of questions.

On the wiki category idea, I’m sure a new template akin to the bug, sic, and anomaly template could be made that autocategorizes, and you (and other writers) would just have to bookmark a single page and check it periodically – no need for activity on the wiki, just observing a single page.

I’m open to trying that out. If you folks decide to go that route please post a link here.

Though you saying you don’t check the wiki is a bit saddening as that’s a pretty decent way of checking what lore we know (when it’s done…. conflicts have put such on a standstill several times).

I check the wiki, just not daily.

The first thing you should do is block the person. I can see you know that, and you did it. So if someone is harassing you after being blocked, they’re making a concerted effort to harass, and we don’t take that sort of thing lightly.

So use the in-game report system and your report will be seen by an agent. But if this is becoming a real or continuing issue (not a once-in-a-while anomaly) you may wish to submit a support ticket and an agent will then review a bit more of the history.

Submit:

  • Your character or display name
  • A time
  • Your time zone
  • A date
  • Any other info you can provide, such as the name (character or display) of the person or person involved in harassing of offensive comments.

I just spoke with the CS leader and he said these tickets will be reviewed so do take advantage of that if you need to do so, while knowing that for most issues of chat violations the in-game system works great (and the player involved in a violation is often gone very quickly).

On a related note: it’s extremely helpful if people reported narrative issues (continuity or otherwise) in an certain format. This post on Reddit regarding the Seeds of Truth lore inconsistency was incredibly useful in tracking down the bug.

  • Quote the phrase from the current build
  • Quote the phrase from the core game (or GW1)
  • Explain the discrepancy

That’s it. We just need the facts, which we can then use to locate the content in our tools and investigate the issue. So feel free to let us know when something isn’t quite right in the game. Just please present it in a neutral, factual manner and it’s very likely we’ll be able to look into it. Burying the facts inside a longer post is the surest way for it to get lost.

Thanks much.

That’s a good idea.

Maybe a dedicated thread or a sticky where only posts in the format you describe can be added. I’m quite certain the lore experts on the forum would be happy to add to it in this way if it meant getting the consistent story lore we all want.

I think it’s a pretty good idea, personally. As you can imagine, the GW universe is pretty large and complex, so having a centralized place where people can list items to investigate will certainly help the narrative team.

I just want to be clear that any reported items would be investigated when we’re able, and issue severity would certainly be a factor in that. Also, posting something doesn’t mean we’re able to address it (right away, or ever) so I want expectations to be clear. We’ll investigate what we can when we’re able.

My suggestion is to start a thread and we’ll see how it goes. If it proves useful I’ll ask for it to be stickied. Does that work for people?

I want to stress that the reports need to be written as factual, succinct entries, otherwise it’ll just become another long thread that’s difficult to parse. Thanks for understanding.

Inflation pushes progression beyond reach

Remember that changes in the overall supply of currency doesn’t mean inflation.

Here’s a snippet from an awesome game economist team:
“Changes in the money supply dwarf the changes to prices. While the money supply grew more than thirteenfold, the CPI fell by almost a quarter. It‘s clear that these series aren‘t strongly correlated. The existence of money alone doesn‘t contribute much to inflation. Money that isn‘t being spent won‘t affect prices. This brings us to the concept of the velocity of money, i.e. frequency with which a given quantity of money changes hands in transactions. It can be stated as the total value of all transactions in a period, divided by the money supply. In our case, we shall be using monthly measurements, i.e. market transactions per month divided the average money supply that month. Only transactions on the general market are included.”

edit: In case it’s not clear, this is not from me or speaking of our game.

Congratulations to Abjured for winning WTS!

Will you only fix things that are currently active, or will you go back to old stuff as well? You mentioned that the Mordremoth reveal could have been handled better (I just mention it, because it was the first thing that came into my head. I don`t want to talk into your job. There were suggestions like placing a book on the eldar dragons in Scarlet`s room or an aditional dialog).

TL;DR: We look at all kinds of potential text, VO, and lore fixes but have to prioritize them.

Long version: Because our time and resources are finite, we have to prioritize our list of items that we want to fix. Adjusting an existing conversation is easy and doesn’t require a ton of rework (writing, editing, localization, and testing time, mostly). Adding new content is a bigger task, since it involves design resources (hooking up objects, scripting) and additional testing. All sorts of things are considered, such as how critical a bug is to fix (does it block progress, create continuity problems, or is it just vaguely worded or out of voice?).

In the case of the Riannoc issue, it was a simple fix, so I went ahead and addressed it for a future build. Adding a story step to Scarlet’s room in Prosperity, however, is a bigger task, making its implementation chances a little less likely. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t other ways to solve the problem that don’t involve reworking the structure of existing content (e.g. putting a book about Mordremoth in the Priory or somewhere out in the world for players to read) but we have to weigh that against other potential fixes.

Content patches might feel a bit short and the pacing is too slow with too many breaks – both upcoming and the one back before November, but other than that I’ve really enjoyed LS2 compared to LS1.

I’m glad. Believe me, our team has worked very, very hard all year to bring you these releases, to focus our efforts, and to try to raise expectations. Note that we have a director of narrative now, as a sign of how serious the studio is about telling great stories.

And I’m really curious (but careful not to raise my expectations to expansion-hype levels) what & where Anet are going in 2015.

I know where we’re going, and I advise you to go ahead and fasten your seat belt.

What the Heckz did you do?

I told it to match people as soon as it can.

When you gonna fix this Sir?

It get’s fixed permanently on the 16th, but I can ramp it up while I’m at work and this weekend when I have the time to monitor it.

So, if you are given a match with essentially no chance of winning, you are docked a point for not getting at least 200 points against the uber team.

I’d do it differently.

So would we, sort of, which is why Courtyard won’t be in rotation once the season starts.
