Update: 12 August 2014
Our programming team has developed some troubleshooting steps that we’d like a few players to try as part of the analysis and resolution process. What we’re going to do it grab a handful of existing tickets and send out a message that outlines the process, then await a response from those players who choose to help with the troubleshooting.
If you don’t get a request about troubleshooting today, no worries! We just need a handful of files and screenshots and we’ll be good, therefore we don’t need to reach out to everyone who is experiencing this issue. All players who have submitted tickets about this issue will get an e-mailed update today, but it’s covered in forums posts so those of you active on this thread already will have the latest in updates. I’ll provide more information as it becomes available.
Please note: I am posting this in the English-language forum only because the troubleshooting requests are going out in English-language tickets to expedite the process. But please be assured that we are keenly aware that this issue impacts players in many countries, and the resolution will help everyone.
We’ll update as we have more to share. Thanks.
That last update (believe it or not) actually fixed it for me.
That last update (believe it or not) actually fixed it for me.
That is very good news. Can you keep us updated over a bit of time? I’d like to know if the problem creeps up again for you or if it truly appears to be fully resolved.
Thanks for the note.
I just finished, Dragon’s Reach Part 2 with no disconnection as “yet”. Still have to check dungeons and fractals. So far its looking great. Usually when I move from one server map to another server map I will disconnect. This did not happen for Tequatl, which is a good sign to me Will post updates.
Update 1: CoF dungeon Path 1 and 3 worked fine, in terms of no disconnection. Path 2 had a bug where Maggs was futher away than the usual spot to collect the orbs for the Orocyte bomb. Then when it failed, we ran back but couldn’t interact with Maggs. We left the dungeon. Did all three dungeons of CoF, paths 1, 2, and 3. No disconnection. The update patch seems to be working.
Update 2:
I did additional dungeons AC, CoF, TA and a couple of fractals runs. Everything works fine. No disconnection from game at all. Good job to all that took part in helping resolved this issue. /cheer

Think that it was fixed for my wife aswell, will test it myself tonight, if after 2 hours I do not get a locking screen will repost here. Since the issue started I havent been able to play more than 30 minutes (while changing zones) without getting kicked out.

Crossing fingers here. Do keep us informed about this, and thanks for posting.
Played for two hours tonight without any hustle as of before I couldn’t port more then 5 times before the crashing began. So far so good! Thanks Anet team… you’re the best!
For info, I’m on NA server playing from eastern Canada and I’m on the Maguuma home land.
So far the problem seems fixed on my side too, which is awesome. Is there a possibility to get compensation for not being able to play most of the game’s content for 2 weeks?

Unfortunately, I’m still getting the error. This doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t fixed for a lot of people, though; I’ve been having problems with this for a lot longer than most, and don’t have the same symptoms as the recent increase in problems (basically, it’s not just a single character getting stuck, I can’t log in to anyone once I’ve gotten the error, until I reset my router).
I hope this works out for the majority, and that maybe it’ll lead to a fix for those like me who’ve been suffering this for over a month.
That last update (believe it or not) actually fixed it for me.
I think this is just because all instances was reset on the update. But when a new map instance is created you could get the problem again. I cannot confirm this, not tested enough after update.
Just in case, I am playing WvW only until I see no one is reporting this anymore. I don’t want my main stuck, so I fear to travel to the next living story step.

Unfortunately, I don’t seem to be having this issue anymore. I was just starting to get used to it being a new feature. Noooooooooo…

I have tested all maps and all dungeons and some fractals. Also wvw and spvp. So far havent gotten the error even once. =]

Have you specifically tried to point your system DNS at the Google DNS servers? There have been specific instances of particular ISPs having DNS routing issues that effected players similar to this issue that were fixed by doing this.
Just offering a suggestion (and please reply back here to confirm outcome of trying this if you do).
All of my characters that were pre-patch stuck are now able to move freely.
From Brazil, currently with the standard ISP DNS for my provider, no issue since patch.
“fingers crossed” indeed.
HALLELUJAH, Im singing with leonard Cohen,( listen to a vid of him singing) Hallelujah baby.
Ive been playing now since patch and quite a few hours last night.
No Problems What So Ever…. I didn’t do anything either. So if you guys did something, “Hallelujah”.

Yes, I did that a while ago. No effect whatsoever on my disconnects.

I keep getting booted off as well, with this error code. Over and over! it seems especially bad in Lions arch.
After 6 hours of gameplay (mostly afk, but still), 36 character logins/outs, and about 40 wp used I’ve not experienced any disconnections, errors or any other oddities.
I’m using google dns, playing from Uruguay.
Edit: haven’t tried dungeons or fractals, will do tonight if I dont get any disconnect, will report again after.

SO far I’ve only been traveling in Mount Maelstrom, The Crucible of Eternity, and WvW. But since the patch…Everything seems okay.
I will MORE than gladly update if a problem occurs though. But as of right now, I’m willing to say it looks like Anet pulled their stuff together.
Since last patch I didn’t have these error issues anymore. Don’t think I did nothing else (other than installing WoW).
Since last patch, i have more often this error than before (happened several times for me today).
Up until just a few minutes ago I have been problem free.
1. I go to log into my warrior and I get the error code on the load screen.
2. I immediately log into my guardian and everything is fine. I’m hanging out in Lion’s Arch for about 5 minutes. BAM. I get booted and then get the error code.
3. I switch to my Elementalist. Three minutes and I’m booted with the error code.
4. I log in with my thief. I take about 20 steps and get booted again with the error code.
I’m scared to log onto any more characters!
WTH
Okai I’m getting this as well on all my characters.
I’ve been getting this a lot recently. So far it hasn’t completely barred access to any of my characters, but my connection to the game will suddenly drop, then I’ll receive this error code and get booted back to the character select screen. Very frustrating, especially when I’m in WvW.
And now as of today, my guild, party, and whisper chats keep malfunctioning. They’ll be fine for maybe about 10 seconds at a time before they stop working completely and I can neither read what others are saying nor send any messages myself. Not sure if it’s related to this error code, but I figured I’d mention it just in case.
After the patch this afternoon, I’ve been getting disconnected every few minutes. It is extremely frequent and I can’t get anything done. Another player on my home network is not experiencing the issue at all.

So I tried this solution:
1. Close GW2
2. Go to a Command prompt (DOS) by typing CMD on the run bar. (You will have to run it as an administrator)
3. Type the following command: netsh winsock reset catalog
4. Start GW2
5. Try to log in with affected characters
It worked! I saw this posted somewhere in this thread and 1million thank you’s to whomever it was. (Edit: It was Light.7493 THANKS!)
Edit2: I should also probably mention that this required a reboot as well. Also, apparently there is the possibility of some negative effects from completing this procedure. I’d strongly suggest possibly trying this as a last resort as other programs may be detrimentally affected. YMMV. Use at your own risk. Please allow to cool for 2 hours before frosting. Don’t pour water on a grease fire. Also, don’t run with scissors. Don’t press the red button. And finally, NEVER attempt to smell a scratch-n-sniff sticker while at the bottom of a swimming pool. FOR SCIENCE!

It’s really getting out of control and worse every day (as noted above, it’s really worse since the last patch – confirmed with several new disconnect since).
While the new patch seems to have fixed this problem for some people, I am still getting this disconnect issue very frequently. Since the last living story update I have not been able to play the game due to this issue. I was hoping the new patch would fix this, but I can’t log in for more than five minutes without disconnecting. Every character I log on to lags terribly for a few minutes and eventually my skills will stop working, then i get the disconnection error. Yes, I have tried troubleshooting it myself and nothing seems to work on my end. The fact that the new patch fixed it for some players and not others makes me think it has something to do on Anet’s end. I have been an avid Guild Wars player since the release of Factions and I have never had an issue like this before. Please fix this soon or at least let those of us still having problems know you are working on a solution.

Error Code: The game client lost its connection to the server. Please wait a few minutes before restarting the client and trying again. (Code=7:11:3:191:101)

I have never had this problem.. until the most recent patch. I cant even get through a solo q without getting this problem at least 3 times. Unfortunately this problem is on Arena Nets side and we are just sitting ducks until they release the cure. Please send frequent updates as i would hate for this problem to still be around when I have to play in the Tournament of Legends two.
Yeah im getting this Error code 7 more frequently during prime hours (EU) now. Its quite bad, cant play for more 20 min without a spike then Error code 7.
Ok this an update from my previous post. I know some of you still have errors, but I like being through and I do what i say. :p Anyways, the “Dragon’s Reach Part 2 patch” did solve all of my problems.
I can taxi from one map on one server to the same map on another server.
I can do dungeons and fractals.
I can do WvW.
I can switch from one character to the next without logging out completely.
All these can be done without losing connection. Everything works as it should. Thank you Anet and Gaile for keeping us up to date. Thanks to all the people as well who worked their butts off trying to fix this issue. I know some people still have problems and hope it will be resolved for them soon.

I am having this problem as well. Can’t even play for 5 minutes and it’s really annoying.
I’m experiencing this problem since 2 days. I got this error during pve, wvw and also when I try to log in.
It seems like it’s working for me, from this newest update! So far so good, I can login and get my characters out of the frozen loading screen now and play without getting interrupted by this error!
What in the actual heck Anet.
Well being permanently locked out of my characters was fixed. Now I’m dropping every 3 – 5 minutes back to either a character select screen (with no error code) or back to the login screen (with the error code). WvW should be a joy tonight.
I sure wish I could play the game I paid for.
After the DDoS attacks of last month, I have been constantly getting disconnected during prime time with this error. This is the only game I play in which this occurs. I have allowed time in hopes that this issue would be resolved. However, my expectations have not been answered. I have been with Guild Wars since the E3 for Everyone event unfortunately, we may have to part ways as I am unable to play during the times I desire.
Since the patch it’s been pretty much unplayable. Dc-ing every few minutes; if i can log in at all. Just getting back into the game too. Hope it’s resolved soon.
cheers,
-E
To follow up, haven’t had any disconnects with the same specific symptoms (or any at all, in fact) since the update on the 12th.
From what I can see, a lot of the issues reported since appear to be different errors (as they do not follow the previously established pattern of appearing when attempting to log in on a character on a specific map IP). Comments such as “can’t even play for 5 minutes” and “dropping back to character select screen every 3-5 minutes” or “dc-ing every few minutes” hint at the respective issues being distinctively separate from the issue that the thread was created for.
Not saying the issue is fixed for everyone, and my sympathies for those still affected, but just wanted to clarify that most of the ones posting here about disconnect issues are not suffering from the character lockout issue.
I’m hesitant to declare my problem entirely fixed after it went on so long, however, I haven’t had the error since the last patch, and I haven’t reset my router in over 35 hours; previously, the longest I managed without the error popping up and requiring a reset to temporarily fix was about four hours.
So… things are looking hopeful?
I have just had nine of these lag → rubberband → disconnect → relogin dead after fighting in WSR / EB
I am getting a bit fed-up with this.
Tracert to 206.127.146.108 is +/- 30ms as far as 206.127.157.86 (PlayNC) After this all hops are timeout.
Not my PC.
Not my router.
Not my ISP.
Nothing I can do.
Any suggestions from the ANET techies?
ISP: Telia
Region: Sweden EU
Server: Gunnar’s Hold
Issue was gone after the last Living Story update, and i experienced no lag what so ever in any case, but its now back, with constant dc’s.
I tried resetting router, using vpn, any tips & tricks posted, but all of them are a bandaid fix at best. I do not experience any issues with other services than gw2, so i am fairly confident that it isnt an issue on my side.

can someone explain to me how restarting the router fixes this problem when the issue only affects certain characters and not all of them
I’m having this issue since 3 days. So it began AFTER the patch. Useually I’m having it after playing for 45-75 minutes.
Server: Gandara.
Note: my router gets automatic firmware updates. Last update was 5 days ago.

I agree with the quote….I’m not discounting or in any way disregarding people posting here with connection issues, but these issues ARE not the same as the issue that appears to have been (mostly) addressed by the last patch. Characters getting STUCK at loading screens indefinitely with this thread title error message involved.
I get the disconnect error is the same, but that’s like diagnosing a car that wont start and lumping all the potential issues together as “related”. Some may be, but most can have no effect on the others (ex: out of fuel and a cracked distributor cap).
BTW, anyone having issues during their local peak times (early evening hours), might want to check with their ISP for potential throttling….yes, it could be an Anet issue, but if your ISP is messing with your bandwidth during peak hours (when the are MOST likely to do so), a simple conversation with them that includes the term “throttling” often clears the problem right up (even if they deny it or pretend they don’t know what you are talking about). At the very least, it’s worth a conversation with them.

This makes a lot of sense.
I’d like to suggest that those posting here do so only if they are getting the precise Error Code found in the subject line. In addition, if you are posting about a disconnection issue, the first thing we really need to know is the Error Code you are getting.

Blame the mods for merging threads. I posted in another 7:11:3:191:101 thread that was about recurring disconnects while playing, instead of character lock-outs at certain zones. All those posts are in this thread now.
The game is totally unplayable by now.
PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.
Guild Wars is the only game with this problem.
The problem is really, really more frequent since 2 updates.
