ded game, anet doesn’t care, no one really cares
Reverting stab would be a huge step in the right direction because combat in GW2 was frigging dynamic, now it is just who can range more snoozeroni.
But anet can’t see far enough ahead of their noses to pull themselves out of their death spiral so they will keep plugging away at adding more overpowered pve crap to wvw, along with destroying spvp and abandoning more things that people enjoyed in pve, like dungeons. I have been playing wvw since the first betas and I knew a lot of wvwers. I have played in SoRs glory days to the T2 revival and back to JQ after OnS and TW decided to destroy T2 for their own amusement. Which is hilarious since they wanted to bring up YB to “fight” but YB doesn’t fight and they have been destroying T1 since they were brought up… it is amusing. I, and many players have stuck it out as long as we possibly could, but it just isn’t worth it. Anet doesn’t care about the game mode itself, why do you guys care about a change that could help it?

i think you guys need to consider that its not just simply Anet admitting that the change was not well accepted (if true).
You could possibly end up costing someone’s job…

So someone makes a terrible decision and as a consequence your company starts hurting and losing customers. That person now deserves a pat on the back? I am not calling for anyone to lose their job but Anet is a BUSINESS, not a campfire we all can sing around.
Anet must have spent a lot of effort devising and creating the new BL.
Asking them to go back to the old BL is taking a huge step back and wasting all the time and effort they put into designing the new one.
Do you think that’s sensible? Are you asking for something that is impractical?
So you think instead of doing something that would bring some good will and positivity to a game mode that is 99 percent dead is a bad idea and just doubling down on the giant mess they made because…they made it is a good idea?

The meta right now is go into a BL, realize it is empty, log out.
The thing is there’s a chunk of EOTM’ers that are into pve and have no interest in fighting other factions or players. A lot of people just use it to level. So if you nerf that crap, well, it’s just back to pve.
There is also a huge chunk of people who will switch back to WvW, just as they switched from WvW to EOTM some time ago.
And PVE belongs to PVE, isn’t? But I like how much you care about those poor PVE people, Mr WvW-specialist.

Keep trading, or as it’s known here Ktrain, is historically an issue in RvR games that has a negative impact on game quality… Sides shouldn’t collude. It’s also why Anet is careful not to make WvW too rewarding.EoTM does us a favor in giving inclined individuals a place to engage in that behavior. Away from us.
My guild [IX] Had better fights and more fun in one night of EotM than the past 3 months of regular WvW combined. Anet has totally killed WvW and blaming EotM for Anets failure to actually listen to the people that actually play WvW is pretty kitten stupid.
You know what is great about EotM? No kittening banners, and people will actually fight instead of turtle in a tower. WvW doesn’t do any of that anymore.
Archon Wing and I are both making the point that Long-Term AND Hotjoin RvR have their place.
Why it’s assumed I have no EoTM experience and require educating about the goings-on is a bit curious.. As I not only beta tested the map, but also have leveled characters there… And had a few good fights, given.

Have you been there lately? It is more like WvW than WvW is NOW. But that is not the point. Complaining about EotM hurting WvW is ignoring the horrible shape that WvW is in overall and how everyone is completely sick of it. When people would rather fight in EotM than your Bl maps than something is terribly wrong with your entire game mode.
3 teams worth of people are about all there is in the entire spvp community.
The new maps are terrible trash and the people that like them are like maybe 1 percent of the rapidly dwindling wvw population. Enjoy your ghost town.
I like the idea of banners, but I do think they need to be nerfed. Primarily Dragon banner.
I would go about it like this.
1) Remove the defiance bar on all banners.
2) Make Moa instantly get rid of banners.
3) Make Continuum Rift not work with banner skills.
4) Reduce range, and increase CDs on Dragon banner.
5) Possibly make all banners melee range only.
6) Move the banner tactivation levers to a locate right outside their respective tower/keep.
7) Make the tactivation levers be able to be destroyed by a long multiple person commune(steal that mechanic from PVE).
Or ANet should do what they need to do and get rid of banners so guilds like yours with minimal fighting talent can stop thumping their chests when they double banner the whole map?
I don’t think this thread will get the attention it deserves since 95% of the wvw population already left.
But yes, I want the old Borderland maps back.
All anet has to do to see everyone hates it is play in T1 and try to find anyone on those maps at any time.
With all the CC spam, and it was bad before but it is 100 times worse now with the new specializations seemingly designed to just CC, they need to change stability.
My idea is to revert the change but reduce Stability durations. In all honesty, all they needed to do to fix stability was just reduce the durations in the first place but as we all know Anet has no idea how to balance anything. To me, if you reduce duration and you still wanted significant up time you would need to spec heavily into boon duration to make it happen and then lose out on other stats in the process. That is a good compromise.
WvW is done. When T1 guilds are trying to scrounge up money so we can transfer guilds up just so we can have someone to fight you know it is the end. I don’t know how Anet could mess something up so badly. When your best and most enjoyable borderland map is Obsidian Sanctum… that is really saying something about how hard you failed in this endeavor. The new BLs are unplayable even without the ultra lag mid event going. And all you guys would have to do to start fixing this is remove these kitten maps, that were clearly designed around glider use yet we can’t glide, and put the old ones back in until the update. Even then it is pretty much too late. T1 prime time, can’t find fights. Dead, D-E-D dead.
What makes this all the more sad was that for 3 years WvW was this games most popular end game and Anet just let it rot. This was your kitten end game! How could a company mismanage something so badly? It is to the point that you have guilds leaving to play the extremely crappy Blade and Soul and Black Desert Online. Those games are not even enjoyable to play but people would rather grind Korean style than play the crap sandwich we have been given.
The worst part is that we all know Anet is ignoring this subforum and that everything we say falls on deaf ears.

I am not looking for any mmos ever again. I am pretty convinced that no company can make a good mmo and that mmo as a game type are fatally flawed by the past and the mechanics themselves that are seen as part of what makes up an mmo.
It is like every mmo is born with a poison pill and the inherent flaws of the agreed upon genre systems and the lack of imagination from developers doom each new project from the start.
I hope that it can be fixed in time because before long people will start bailing.
This has already started. I am only here to complain and hope they fix this. Eventually I will get bored of that and just uninstall.
I am not wishing the people that like HoT to not have fun and I am glad they are having fun. I am saying this because most of the people that like HoT are extremely defensive and are refusing to see the merit of the complaints, of which there are maaaaaaaaaany.
But for someone like me, meaning I have a job and a life and games are there for me to relax, Anet as a company I will purchase games from is dead.
Well, unless they fix this I will never buy anything from Anet again so what I will say next is really irrelevant.
I for sure will never, ever pre order anything from Anet ever again.
I will support a company that actually lives up to it’s promises with my money, like CD Projekt Red.

My experience is summed up thusly. Yesterday some friends asked me if I wanted to explore with them and I did. So I zoned in and asked where are you? They said in the canopy but you are only level 1 in masteries so you can’t get here…
This game doesn’t even allow me to play with my effing friends. Great design.
Now this doesn’t take into account that I really preordered this crap for the elite specs that take 460 hero points to unlock. Where is my level 80 with world completion going to get that? I honestly don’t know. Now multiply that by the alts and the fact that I want to open the specialization on all of the professions (classes that I don’t play very much at all) and i am looking at years worth of grind to just experience new skills that we should only have to unlock once and then not grind an obscene amount to use.
Not good. Waste of money.
God forbid you play with other people in an MMO. This is not a single player game. If you want to kill champions, then get a group.

This is toooooooo much grind. I really can’t believe Anet thought this amount of grind was going to be acceptable to the majority of their player base.
Think about it. Let’s say you main or play 2 professions a lot. To unlock your specializations fully you need to grind 800 levels? I mean, grinding 400 levels to fully unlock a new spec is bad enough, but this expansion really craps on people that love alts. Like a big spray fart all over their faces and Anet laughing all the way to the bank at us idiots that thought Anet knew what fun was. Fun is not grinding 1000s of levels 3+ years after your original launch date.
For me, I am a gvg/wvw/spvp player and I get totally hosed if I want to play the two specializations of the classes I love to play, Guardian and Ele. Especially now that the experience you get in wvw isn’t worth anything anymore. lol. I think my time in this game is done until it is fixed.
I said about as effective, they are not as effective but the necro itself is much harder to kill so it sorta makes up for it.
My point was that it has taken the place of turret engie and does a pretty good job at it and it is about as hard to play. Which means it is a tanky stupid spec that is just annoying and maybe needs to be toned down while other things get a buff so necros can play a real build.
Zoo necros are basically the new turret engie, takes about as much skill and is about as effective.
The problem is that it is so easy to play and do nothing to hold a point that it is quickly becoming the only thing most necros will play. That is pretty much on Anet.
You see Jasher, you are a tiny dancer and you need to make the ele dance through it’s rotation. Sometimes you have to change your dance based on the class you are dancing with. Sometimes you miss step in your dance and the rotation is messed up, so you need to reset or try to get back in the “groove”. But overall ele DD is a sustain build so you won’t really kill quickly and just work on your might stacks and keep burning up.
There is really no other point in playing other builds, maybe DF, but its almost the same as DD. Staff and SF can work but other classes do what they can better and survive better. Best of luck my friend.
This is not strictly true but it mostly is. I have been playing cele staff for 3 years in wvw/gvg and spvp and I am very good with the build. I know every skill intimately and I can mostly stay alive in 1v2 situations against some specs indefinitely. The only class I have a problem with in spvp is power mesmer because they can almost one shot me from stealth. Same with thief but then after they don’t one shot me they continually run into all my CC and die.
D/D is probably the better build but it really depends on the pilot. I sometimes get kitten for playing cele staff but then I watch the people giving me kitten die from a lack of actual knowledge of their class/build and then also dying from an almost complete lack of situational awareness.
IDK where I am going with this other than to point our that yes, D/D is the “meta” but a really good staff brings a totally different ballgame to a match with tons more utility and cc.
To the OP, to get good at ele you are going to need to use that internal clock you have on every other class with weapon swap and memorize 4 weapons worth of cds. For me the easiest class to play after ele is engie because they have quite similar mechanics.
Still in the game? Yeah Capricorn had water but wasn’t a stupidly broken map with the worst mechanic a pvp game could ever have.
I get that it is probably someones “baby” but it needs to go.

There might be a trap build for keeping points, but…
As the OP said they don’t offer any real utility and if you are going medis you will likely still take 3 medis as a trap won’t really do anything for you.
The problem now is when they are seen as not used because let’s face it, with the nerf to traps they won’t be widely used, maybe the elite one….maybe… will anet nerf the crap out of medi’s to make traps look good? Because that is their MO for “balancing” things.
A couple notes on Dragonhunter. We went with this name because we felt it was evocative of the medieval witch hunters. Guardians consider themselves protectors of the innocent. Followers of their faith be it in honor, valor, etc. The origin of the dragonhunter is a more subtle nuanced version of this. Guardians fight for justice and the dragonhunter faction believes justice is the eradication of dragons and their minions. I understand this is a lot more high concept than Mesmer but at the end of the day we felt like we wanted to try and push a more mature theme here. I hope this helps explain our thinking. We had other generic names in mind but felt like it was important to have a mix of spec names that are generic fantasy, more Tyrian fantasy, and more high concept. This one falls more in the third category.

LOL. So, I was wrong then. I don’t know of any traps used in any game mode besides a minor roaming build for wvw.

That is what I am seeing so far, and if that is the case and the traits are all supporty then I will stick with my old trait lines and play melee.

Seriously, I just don’t get the thinking behind this. “We know almost every ele in the game uses this trait, so we are not gonna make it baseline so you dont have to waste a slot on it, but we are going to put it as a GM so you have to chose a utility trait that should be baseline over other traits that that actually impact play. The only reason people think the gvg scene is more toxic than the spvp scene is because no one knows any of the spvp guilds at all, besides maybe The Abjured, and just go watch some of their videos and see how toxic the spvp scene is.
The problem with everything is that Anet (CLICHE ALERT) just will not see the forest for the trees and will continue to stick it’s head in the sand and dig themselves to China trying to get spvp to work when it is just a boring and unexciting game mode. No one wants to hear that something they poured countless hours on creating is a giant failure but this is where we are at this point point in the game.
I would love for them to support GvGs but it just isn’t going to happen 3 years into the game.
As a community we have been saying this to Anet for over 3 years. And they shut it down every time because they have a baby, spvp. But they overlook the fact that spvp, even with stronghold, is just not that good and doesn’t really highlight the strengths of a combat system they put together that is actually really stellar.
Generally, a player created game mode that has zero backing from anet and at times anet actually hindered it, all of it is player word of mouth, and it generates almost the same amount of viewers as a completely backed and promoted game mode that they push extremely kitten the player population.
You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.
Meanwhile, Necros are getting a trait that boosts power off of toughness. 7% AND 14% IN DEATH SHROUD.
The same guy that did the traits for ele also did the traits for thief, and he didn’t make thieves choose between panic strikes or executioner….

This thread is about the air traits in general really.
But what I see is that all of the adept traits in their current forms are extremely useless besides zephyr’s boon, but that trait is only viable with one weapon set so pretty much it is locked out for anything else.
One with air is stupid. If you made it decent somehow great but even as stupid and useless as it is it is still the only trait worth taking because…
Ferocious winds scales off of healing power… wut? I know you want eles to “heal” but honestly Anet, this is a trait in the air line which is all about quick hits and flashy damage and now that you moved bolt to the heart to GM (which, unless you significantly buff it, Lightning Rod will always be better) AND you changed the flat 10 percent damage buff to a percentage of ferocity, another damage nerf… You need to give something back.
Make ferocious winds and one with air usable traits that are worth taking and everyone will stop whining.

I think ‘they’ made an absolute statement in error; I even question if ‘they’ did say it. It’s not that ‘they’ are clueless and stupid and don’t play the game, they simply mis-spoke. They aren’t spin doctors and politicians, they are a bunch of wound up game devs … you know, the kind of nerds that program AND play games.
I also think it’s pretty naive when people complain that something was changed because of something as ridiculous as the ‘devs don’t know their game’.
The explanation is probably the most simple one; it’s likely not the most useful trait in the line it’s in, so they changed it. I can also think of reasons it’s no longer a chill. Perhaps if you stopped being so critical and assuming, you could do the same.

But seriously, I don’t care about losing the chill if the slow is also AoE and has the crit on it too. Then it would be worth taking over resolution. Right now it is just something very meh.

It is funny how the devs were like HUR DUR NO BUILDS USE THIS when the Meta Guardian build in their pampared and preferred game mode usesd Glacial Heart as it’s Center piece. Also, Hammer meta in WvW also uses Glacial Heart as a key component.
My main concern with the people making changes to this game don’t even play it at all.

PvE is not that, I don’t really care about that tbh, but WvW and sPvP builds 100 pecent rely on at least lightning flash and mistform.
What PvE does is sorta irrelevant.
here is a tip for you. Put more dps in your gear. Being able to invest so far into earth is a great tradeoff. Id choose it solely for geomancers defense.
Staff builds in wvw will probably be 06066.
D/D will probably be 06660 or 00666.
Sc/f will probably be 66060 or 06066.The core functionality won’t change too much
Why would wvw staff builds be 06066? They already aren’t the meta as LR has taken over and the only reason to go into arcane is for Blasting Staff which will be baseline when these changes hit.
I am pretty sure the meta will change away from arcane for staff because of the three traits that make it worth it, blasting staff you no longer need, ele attunement and EA you are going to have to chose between, so you are basically going into arcane for EA and none of the other traits makes going into Arcane for EA worth it at all for staff.
So yeah. Personally, 66060 looks like where it will be at and in those trait lines all of the key damage modifiers in those lines took rather large hits in comparison to the other professions.
EDIT- Although either 06660 or 60660 look good too. Especially with the mesmer and thief mega buffs.

Pve isnt the only game mode, a lot of people play an ele for more than just facerolling your keys as fast as you can to see big numbers pop up.
Besides we dont even know all the changes, so dont freak out just yet. You could easily end up with more damage than before.
They also took away another key damage modifier in bountiful power and put that in a GM position too.
I do not think people realize just how bad eles damage is being nerfed here.
It seems now that anet has moved all the damage modifiers and even nerfed a key modifier in air (changed to crit damage instead of flat 10 percent increase is a pretty big nerf, not to mention another key modifier being made grandmaster so you have to either chose that over fresh air or lightning rod further nerfing ele damage specs) and then moving all of the survivability traits to be in those same trait slots is forcing eles to have to chose between the two. Which is bad because eles have the lowest health and armor pool and really just die without some key traits that have now been moved into places where now you have to chose them over damage or get dead.
Water had a key modifier too, bountiful power, and now you have to either chose that, a trait other classes get for free under different names and eles used to get for free, or your key traits for survivability like mainly cleansing water and powerful auras so you are losing even more damage there too.
Further more these changes also DO NOT change the fact that every ele build in the game at a competitive level depend cantrips so you either will be taking the new trait (which is good tbh) but you are pretty much forced to take that and then lose a damage modifier from not taking aquamancer’s training, and then you either give up another survivability trait in cleansing water or you are forced to take bountiful power to get your damage modifier back.
Now some may say BUT YOU SHOULD HAVE TO CHOSE DER OTHER CLASSES HAVE TO! But no, thieves definitely don’t have to now, neither do mesmers or necros or warriors or rangers, guardians do to some extent but they are still a heavy class and can take a lot of punishment.
So, to recap, eles lost or had nerfed 3 key damage modifying traits. Had a couple survivability traits moved into positions where you will lose one or the other and I still haven’t mentioned the arcane nerf. I am honestly not as mad about it but it is still a nerf.
Other classes seem to have gotten major buffs but eles look to be in a definitely worse place then they used to be compared to what other classes have received and pigeonholed even more into certain traits.
SO MUCH DIVERSITY!

If Anet listens to one thing it should be to make Blasting Staff the default radius so staff eles don’t have to go all the way into Arcane and have traits they don’t want just to have decent sized fields.
This way people can spec into arcane for the OP traits at times, but not be forced to when they don’t want to.
