I think TA Aetherpath shows us that they’re more likely to include new, harder paths to dungeons than they are to include a hard mode toggle. But I could be wrong.

if you raided in any other “unmentionable” MMO games you realize there is nothing hard in gw2.
Hard mode would be a refreshing change. My version of hard mode is bosses that are not beaten in the first encounter or even the first week of trying.

IMO, people are grossly overstating the Ranger changes. If I were you, I’d play each class you’re are considering in sPvP for a few days and see if you enjoy playing the class. If you enjoy playing the class, it won’t matter too much where their relative power is.

That all said, what the previous poster asked is also important… what do you plan to do with your character? Rangers in particular are notorious for providing nothing of value to a group (and being very reliant on condis when roaming).

Play each class and see if you enjoy it and then come back asking for advice imo.

I play all the classes and they all have their fair share of bad players and good players. When you make generalizations like this it just reinforces the fact that we should ignore the poster as having nothing of value to say.

Kind of like the posts that don’t attempt to refute the claims and instead berate the poster? OP should do exactly what I suggested… play each class for a few rounds and see if it’s something they like. If it is, come back with more specific questions.

Perhaps you shouldn’t generalize poor play for an entire class of characters because you happen to run into players that may be unfamiliar with them.
But then you missed the point, (no surprise I suppose) Let me clarify it for you: All classes have good players and all classes have bad players that do things to mess up the encounters.

a good thing you get so many from achievements.
they were well-priced before gold -> gem went above 1g/100 gems. but ever since that time, they are way overpriced.
(I did not make a typo in this post)

Just to be a grammar kitten for my second language: You actually made 3 typos because none of your first three sentences began with a capital letter.

On topic: Considering that you ckittene MF stones as a placeholder for an exotic weapon when throwing 4 of them into the Mystic Forge, i would argue that 50s each is a good deal.

50s each would be fine, if you could choose to buy them individually instead of a package

Can we please see a dramatic change in the cost of these?

250 gems for 5 mystic forge stones makes it pointless to buy them.

I could see maybe 50 stones for 250gems or something

with 5 you cant even make more than one mystic salvage kit

So I bought GW2 back in 2012 when it first launched, but due to personal reasons I was only able to play for a couple of days. I’m off school for the summer and my dusty copy of GW2 is still sitting on the shelf…

Comments on youtube videos have been generally positive, and a solid majority of the people rolling in recommend giving it a try.

I played a lot of LoL over the past year, year and a half, and while it was fun I’m completely burnt out now. I played WoW during vanilla, heavily during TBC and quit like a lot of people did after Cataclysm. I came back for about a month or 2 for Mists, but after so many years staring at the same graphics, I feel like my WoW days are – for the most part – behind me.

The resounding consensus on TESO (a game I was looking forward to) is that the game is bugged all to heck and not currently worth the money. And Wildstar is just not my flavor.

Would it be worth giving GW2 another shot? I basically just want to know if the leveling experience is good and if the game is still fun to play. The last piece of my new PC arrives today and I definitely want to try this game on full blast (highest settings) because the graphics look great. Would you guys recommend a total noob jumping in at this time?

If you want to power level – Use XP boosters and run around in Edge of the Mists. Doing that I was able to gain a level about every 15-20min on my latest character

Completed the entire zone in 4hrs at the most, including the dive. You insist on evaluating capability because of a critical review of the new giant jump around zone. You have no clue on personal ability of any of the posters. There is nothing truly hard in GW2 period, the hardest part of gw2 is dealing with zerg coordination.

I would hate to see jumping puzzles removed from the game. I would similarly be disappointed if they, and their like, were used to gate content.

I personally struggle with JP because of MS, but I always manage to do them when I need a break from the normal content. However I tend to agree – jumping puzzles have their place.
I am personally disappointed that instead of real zone with good MMO content we got a small zone devoted to a giant jumping puzzle. This zone Feels more like a console game not a world class MMO.

People are forgetting we have a two-week release cycle. What we see now is not the entire zone. More will be revealed with future episodes. Some people have already managed to break into parts of the map they’re not supposed to be in yet.

Also, people seem to be confusing jumping with a jumping puzzle. There’s one jumping puzzle, it’s quite tricky but not the hardest one in the game, and it takes up a very small part of the area.

Didn’t forget the release cycle – don’t really care since in this case its irrelevant. Its a giant jumping puzzle – its using a gimmick crystal that we are told by the NPC will die out soon because it was destroyed in an explosion- so in a game that pushes living world content – what do we do when the crystals die out – or was that all just idle chatter that meant nothing to the games living story.

they are not even really hacking, they are low grade incompetents that are a joke and competent hackers are laughing.
Their attacks are using BOTS and saturating the target machines with external communications requests, so much so that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly that usually leads to a server overload

No mounts
Poor loot drops for long hours on some of the events (notably : Teq dragon, giant wurms)
Ascended gear drops that are useless to your character class and cant be sold on tp
Lack of raids
Ranger class need some serious fixing, (spend a day with wurm hunting guilds and get slammed for 2hrs regarding how much of a joke your class is)

Respect as a commander is earned through trial and error and treating people with respect. It is also generated by success in the wvw / world events.

Commander tags now cost 100g and 250 wvw tokens.

Rangers bow shots need to move much faster, they are too slow and very easy to avoid.
Pet issues, ANET said there is no fix for pets. I agree that we should have a ranger build that does not have to use pets. Put pets into the traits , make it an early 5 pt trait if you want a pet.

I still haven’t figured out why Rangers cant use guns….Must be the trigger that throws them. /sarcasm.

This is not a hard fight, in fact its still not a really a challenging fight. The dragon barely moves, stands in one spot and stomps in the water. The adds are more threatening.

The hard part is getting a mob of players that isn’t a dedicated raid group to work together to defeat the boss.
If you want to beat this dragon regularly – guest onto one of the servers that downs him everyday at reset.

Still haven’t figured out why undead dragons want beach front property in a swamp and would spend the time and effort attacking something completely useless to their cause.

[PVE][Ranger Pet] The Handicap

in Profession Balance

Adacian.9752

I agree I love my ranger and despise the pet. Whether Anet declared Rangers a pet class or not is irrelevant – its not working and something needs to be done.

Current Ideas on Rangers and their role need to be revamped and decisions on how ranger pets work and how much control a player has over the pets presence in the battle field need to be reviewed and changed.

For the most part I find that I am forced to always use my pets on passive, only sometimes sending it to attack in the last few moments of a fight, especially if up against any kind of boss in fractals and dungeons. I find that because I am forced to keep my pet on passive I am already handicapped in the fights. I keep my pet on passive because if I don’t I will suffer a significant penalty to my abilities when the pet is one shot in the first 10sec of a fight , causing me to lose my supposed class mechanic for 60 sec.

Im tired of the excuses about fixing the pet or allowing us to permanently stow them. Its unjustified.

Last time I enjoyed Ranger class was Gw1 and Gw2 beta. I brought my Gw2 ranger out of retirement to see if some of the recent updates helped the ranger class, I had some hope things would get better.
The changes listed for dec10 will do little to help the ranger. It inexcusable to still have the Rangers primary mechanic broken to the point that even the developers don’t know what to do about it. I guess its time to put my ranger back into retirement.

Somsom , thank you for your advice. I have 6 level 80s of different classes completely geared out (except for ascended weapons, only have that on my ranger). I played beta as a ranger and when gw2 went live Started with ranger , gave up and then came back to it during jubilee.
When the core mechanic of a class is broken and doesn’t work properly Its game breaking for the class- its more than annoying and a far more glaring issue than anything else listed in this forum.

There is a fix that can be implemented -let us control when the pet is present. Allow us to put the pet away, keep it put away and give a damage boost while the pet is dead or put away.

The issues with pets are frustrating. The core of the ranger has been made to revolve around a pet, which is broken. There is little incentive to continue with the ranger class. All the changes I see are focused on issues that are not as critical as the pet problems. Why is that?

December 10th Ranger changes

Love the Ranger – hate the pet. It would be a break through if we could have a viable ranger build that didn’t include pets but for whatever reason it seems there is an insistence that we have to have them.

Please give us the option to put a pet away and keep it put away. I know that can reduce ranger effectiveness. But that should be my decision and I Know the consequence, I get to experience it every time both pets are one shot within seconds of each other, I get a CD so I don’t have the pet. There are times you just DO NOT want the pet out period. Why are we not given the option? For example Dealing with Jump puzzles . I make a jump take a little bit of damage and the pet is once again In my face with the camera due to tight spaces and thus obscuring my vision.

I tend to keep pets on passive for the damage bonuses and removing conditions because I get tired of my pets being one shot by a boss/ champion or player and then having this huge CD waiting for my ability to come back. With the way pets AIs are I send it in for finishing hits on a target when It makes sense to.

This allows people who you are trying to be invisible to; still keep tabs on you , and stalk or harass you in game.

Two posts from Tarnished Coast people pretty much sums up the way the server is driven from an outside point of view. Unfortunately it reflects upon your server albeit not the opinion of the majority.

It is a two way street and we by all means we will endorse change to better fit the server we move to. But we would love to work closely with the server of choice to help change the meta for that server as well as work on community bonds and communications to secure the durability, and continuation of that server within the WvW area so not only WvW’s longevity is increased, but the game all together for those on that server.

What is ridiculous is the arrogant way you come onto the forums, telling a server how they need to change in order to have you grace us with your presence. Remember YOU are the guests coming to our house. To act like anyone gives a hoot as to your supposed WvW prowess or where you will end up even matters is a joke.

Frankly with that kind of attitude you bring into the forums I for one will be glad to not see you pollute our server with it.

I rarely if at all feel compelled to come on the forums, but seriously this event is not even close to entertaining. In fact I feel really irritated about it, especially the MOA race.
The MOA race; we cant even participate in the race, instead we stand at the finish line and wait for a random result. Seriously 50s? Its an obvious and massive money sink in a game people struggle to make money in the first place. I was lucky and broke even before I walked away from the race.

If the goal of GW2 is to make a children’s game and alienate the MMO gamers like myself that are interested in real challenges and solid content, you are succeeding.

Well i cant really blame them with the moa race since the speedrun whores love their CoF farm, causing massive inflation if such money sinks dont exist, its more of a community problem (if people wouldnt burn their building if they nerfect CoF1 farm, i think that we would see less money sinks more fun little things).

Seriously…. what does CoF speed farm have to do with this? I’m holding back sarcasm over this response in the name of civility , obviously you wouldn’t allow character abilities to influence the race.

How about making the Player the MOA and giving the PLAYER the abilities shown for each Moa and allowing the player to actually DO something in the game other than give away 50s to a vendor so that they can stand and wait for a random result….
