So I was wandering in Iron Marches. I saw quite a few Charr cubs near an old house and decided to see what was going on in there. They were approached by this woman. She said:
“How wonderful. You sweet, innocent children have come to play at my home.”
And I was thinking how nice that humans and Charr were finally getting along.
A cub humorously responded:
“We’re not sweet! We’re ferocious warriors (roar)”
She went along:
“Oh yes, I can see that. Come closer, my little champion. I have something for you, it’s a warrior’s prize, worthy of your courage.”
The cubs approached.
“A present?” asked one, “I want one!”
“What is it? An unbreakable shield? Is it a flaming sword like Tribune Brimstone’s?”
And I was there still watching with a smile on my face. The woman continued:
“It’s something even better, little ones. For your bravery, I reward you with…”
“ENDLESS TORMENT”
Wait, what!? Yeah, that took me by surprise. Turns out she was an undead Ascalonian witch trying to kidnap the cubs to bring them pain. Suddenly an event begins and you have to save the cubs from the innumerous beasts she is summoning, and then fight her at once. This is not something I will forget anytime soon.
Would it really be better for you if this were some NPC? “Oh, hi, some undead necromancer is kidnapping Charr cubs, please kill her and come back for your reward.”
Say whatever you want, I prefer this method of storytelling a hundred times over GW’s. And yes, I actually took screenshots of the dialogue.
This. While lots of times you miss out on the story behind events cause you come into them once they’ve already started they usually have something like this which introduces them. Also I really like how sometimes NPCs will run up to you (not stand there with a ! above them) and ask for help. If you choose to speak to them they will tell you their problem and then you agree to help which starts an event. That is 100x better than classic questing imo.
The DE system also gets rid of the typical complete every side quest in this area then never come back that can happen in other games. I’ve often gone through areas I’ve already completed 100% and I end up getting caught up in some events just cause they are fun and when you see someone in trouble you feel like helping them out cause you get rewarded for it so it’s not really a waste of your time.
Only thing I agreed with OP is that lots of the heart renown quests were really boring. I don’t want to catch bugs to feed to your cows 20 times. Lots of them make up for it by having multiple ways to complete it like kill this enemy, collect this item, or repair/activate this object. Those type always go by quickly since you can do a combination of the different objectives as you pass through the area and it’s not as tedious. World boss events do need a bit of fixing for large number of players since it does become a stand at max range and unload all your skills at him til he goes down. The few times I’ve done one with smaller groups has been immensely fun, however.
Idk I’m a male ranger and while most of the stuff I found isn’t that amazing there are definitely “swashbuckler” type of armors in the game. I’ve found Pirate hats, gloves, boots, pants at least. The coats are the main thing that I usually have a problem with since they are all trench coat style or at least have some kind of “butt cape” as some people call it.
Wouldn’t mind something without a long coat for something different.
I feel like I would have liked to have been able to get the second book about 10 levels earlier (30 instead of 40). I think you should be able to stay focused in 2 trait lines if you would like.
As it is now you end up with unspent trait points waiting for the second book. Either you don’t use them or you just plug them into the other trait lines. That seems like a waste if you know what you want your focus to be and it also sort of builds in an additional cost to reset your trait points when you get a new book.
Every time you get a new book it resets your traits, so throwing them into another trait line until you get the book isn’t really that bad. You’ll be increasing something even if it’s not the thing you wish you could increase the most.
But I agree the 2 g is a bit steep. Unless you’re just making money throughout your leveling process it’s tough to have that kind of money to throw away by level 60. I was making some decent money (imo) by selling stuff on the TP and I took a pretty big hit by buying that book. I didn’t know that you had to buy the 2nd one first as well but I did cause I wanted to spend 20 points in each line when I was at level 40.
Female Norn look human enough and if you make them small enough like Draco said you could pull off the human look with one although it would be a tall human. The men all have the really broad shoulders and thick neck (even the slimmest body type) so it’s a bit harder to get a human looking Norn with the males.
I’m a ranger and 1,2 skills are usually available when ever I go down. 1 is the obvious attack skill, 2 is an interupt. I then usually have to wait like 5 seconds or so for my bandage skill to come up (skill 4). My skill 3 takes the longest but it is the most useful (Lick Wounds) cause my pet comes to revive me. For me I don’t really see any randomness to the recharges when I first go down.
I really wanna say Barrage hits more than 5 enemies at once as that’s the most common skill I use on a large group of enemies. It’s hard to say since I just see a bunch of damage numbers come up at the same time but I’ve never actually counted them.
On the flip side, the pronunciations of “Quay” and “Trebuchet”, along with “Centaur” and “Minotaur” are constant sources of amusement for my guild and I on Mumble.
Here’s a few hints ANet:
Quay is pronounced key.
Trebuchet, treh-buh-shay.
Centaur, sen-tor.
Minotaur, my-no-tor.Your pronunciations:
Quay = Kway
Trebuchet = Treh-boo-chett
Centaur = Sen-tarr (YAAAARRRR!)
Minotaur = Minna-tarr (YAAAARRRR!)Dear lord, it’s tragically hilarious.
I think you got overly obsessed with the pirate theme with those last two.
What part of the world do you and your guild hail from? The latter set of pronunciations represent what I’ve always heard to be said, with the exception of trebuchet, which I’ve known to be pronounced as “treh-boo-shay”. I’m from the U.S., btw, specifically the midwest. (Your pronunciation of minotaur is amusing to me!)
In the UK those are the correct pronunciations.
US company = US pronunciations
I would pronounce quay the same way just cause I’ve actually never heard someone say the word and I’ve only ever read it before. And I agree with Trebuchet being the way you said, however.
I really like Colin’s response in this thread. Basically the perfect way to do it imo. While I have no problem buying content I don’t like being nickel and dimed for small content packs. So the free content updates should keep me interested in the game for a while and then when the expansion comes out I’ll have no problem spending $40+ on it.
I doubt they are going to do the expansions in the same style as GW1 which was essentially 3 entirely separate games which could be linked together on one account. They were each standalone and you could start in any of them you saw fit. I think they’ll probably go more of a classic expansion route, adding new explorable areas, dungeons, and story missions. There seems to be plenty of areas on the visible map that aren’t currently used. Of course there’s the Tengu city, but also areas like Maguuma Wastes, Magus Falls, Ring of Fire, Scavenger’s Causeway, Crystal Desert, Deldrimor Front, Blood Legion Homelands, Far Shiverpeaks, and Woodland Cascades which are all on the current map but as far as I can tell have no explorable areas currently in them. That’s a lot of area for them to cover before even heading to Cantha or Elona.
Are there any medium helms that aren’t face masks? I’d like an actual helm for the charr.
There are hats (Pirate/Ascalonian hat), goggles, and hoods that I’ve seen. Hats I’ve found off of drops and got one as a personal story reward. Goggles I’ve seen through crafting. And hoods I’ve seen when I made a thief.
Check out the Order of Whispers pieces. I really like them.
Where/how do you purchase these? I chose Whispers because of the armor but have no clue where or how to purchase it.
When you get to the Chantry of Secrets you can go up to the other room by talking to the guy guarding a door on the left and you’ll see Armor Requisitioner or something along those lines, selling their armor.
Yea I was hoping for more hoods (for my ranger). So far it’s been all masks until I found the Pirate / Ascalonian hats (which look exactly the same). Wore that for a while for something different from a mask. As a ranger we didn’t get a chance to choose our type of headgear if I remember correctly. I think that choice instead was which pet we started with.
As of right now I’m only aware of there being the hats and the goggles (that I can craft now) that I can obtain right now besides different types of masks. Goggles are obviously more engineer geared and the hat makes me feel like a pirate which I’m not sure I really like for my ranger, so I’m back to masks for now until I find or can craft a hood and use my transmutation stones on it. I’m level 67 and a 210 level leatherworker btw.
And as others said you can gain a lot more stones by doing 100% completion of zones. Think you get 3 per zone completed.
I’ve only ever noticed it in caves and underwater. Being a ranger I’ve got to move a lot to keep them from eating my face off so easily so it’s often that I can take a step (or dodge) back and aggro another enemy that was in an area I just cleared. But in the open areas I’ve never really had a problem as I can move along just fine and have enough room to move around without backtracking very much.
I usually just play by myself. I enter pvp solo, and usually try to stick together but end up most of the time by myself. I’ve tried a guardian but I just can’t get the hang of them. I don’t get them at all. I’d have to play more in pve with them before I understood how they work. I don’t really get the concept of combo’s at all. I would a pokemon esque chart that shows combos.
If you want to understand the combos better read this page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Combo . I hope that’s what you meant by combos.
I also would suggest Guardian. Solo it’s easy to stay alive and do a lot of damage. Greatsword really rips into things but then you can use a staff to do mainly support. Haven’t played sPvP but I’ve used him in WvW and during some large battles I could help keep a lot of people alive by playing support.
Depends on which zone you’re in. I was in the Norn starter zone (I’m on the same server btw) and there was a constant stream of conversation the whole time I was there (I was getting 100% completion so I was there for a while).
Depends on the time of the day too.
One place that is always quiet is the Grove. Seems like no one is ever there. I don’t spend much time there anymore since all my story quests are near Lion’s Arch and going towards Orr now.
A lot of the greatswords I’ve found aren’t super huge but I have seem players with massive greatswords. I think one of them may be a skin from the HoM rewards. I didn’t get enough points for it so I’m not sure exactly how it looks.
Sparkfly Fen has them in a Hylek village in the middle of the map.
They don’t have all the Master Crafters but they have a few which I’m assuming might sell enough materials to make anything you need.
A channel would be ok for now but I think I’d prefer something like the party system in GW1. Where you could put up what you’re looking for (questing, mission, etc.) then a short description. Basically just so if you’re looking for a group you can just look there and see that there are X amount of groups looking for more people.
The zone thing is trivial imo. I’ve often wandered into areas a few levels above mine and while I couldn’t play as carelessly I could still play although I’d avoid more fights that I didn’t need to get into.
Bank/bag slots. Banks are account wide so any expansions to them should be account wide. Inventory bags are character specific so expansions to those are to the character. It makes sense to me. They even make it a bit cheaper to add more bag slots. And as others have said you don’t have to spend a dime of real money. You can just spend some in game gold and get gems. I honestly only plan on paying for expansions/new content and I won’t spend real money on stuff in the gemshop.
HoM is all 100% skins. Even the Black Widow spider pet is only a skin, it shares it’s skill set with another in game spider. Same with the Black Moa and the Rainbow Jellyfish. The mini’s are the only thing that’s not a skin but those are meaningless to actual gameplay.
I’m all for Tengu. Dominion of Winds for the starter area! Also I’ve seen multiple variations of tengu so there is a lot of customization they could do.
I think they pretty much have Tengu planned, or at the very least an expansion dealing with them and the Dominion of Winds.
Maybe if the events stay in the “winning” state for a long time the difficulty keeps ramping up until the players finally lose it. So if you’ve pushed the centaurs all the way back and you’re just defending all the territory now, they will keep attacking on a timer and each time they are defeated it will increase the difficulty.
I always report it as spamming. I don’t really see any in map chat anymore (only a few the first week) but now I’m getting random ones in the mail. Like maybe 1 or 2 a day at most.
To answer your other question since everyone answered your first question. I switch between a spider and devourer. They both attack at range which means they don’t have to be in the brunt of the battle, especially on big bosses meaning I’m not stuck with a dead pet all the time. The spider has a immobilize skill and the devourer has a poison skill. Devourer also can knock back enemies, and has a skill where he tunnels away from enemies, which keeps him alive longer. Spider also has some poison I believe. Being that I almost always play with longbow or shortbow it’s nice to have the spider’s immobilize skill since it helps keep the mobs off me as well.
Chocolate and butter do drop a lot. I don’t do any cooking so I usually just sell my items I find. Those 2 are only selling for like 2c each on the TP. So anyone who can’t find chocolate or butter just go buy it, it’s cheap.
As for vanilla beans, I haven’t encountered them once, but as some of you said you found them in the starter zones, I haven’t been back to those very much since the change in drops so that may be why.
Usually run into some RPers in Lion’s Arch as that’s the city I’m usually in now.
As others have said there’s often RP guilds recruiting so I think there is a fair amount of RPers around.
I don’t RP myself but I don’t mind having them around as a majority of the players I’ve encountered are really nice.
Ok I just noticed it now doesn’t seem to limit you to selling your item above vendor price. I just tried selling Walnuts and they are 3c ea to a vendor. Lowest price was 3c and the UI let me put it at 2 or 1 if I wanted to without telling me it had to be above vendor price. So it seems they’ve removed that restriction from the TP?
Now people will be selling 20c items for 5c… lol
EDIT: it was actually only the walnuts, which is strange. Other items still had the restriction. I wonder if walnuts were one of the items that used to be karma vendor item so when they made it drop now they didn’t link up the vendor value correctly?
Glad you pointed this out. I thought something felt weird about them but I didn’t really look at them closely but now that you pointed it out most of what you suggested makes more sense than how it is. I wonder if they did it in an attempt to prevent min/maxing?
I think they gave them the lower health pool cause they have lots of heals and protections to mitigate damage. I’ve only played my guardian to level 20 but I find it to be the most survivable character I currently have. Even in WvW I can usually take a beating and still walk out alive despite not having all my skill slots yet.
Tarnished Coast isn’t too bad. I can usually get in immediately to everything but EB and only have to queue up during peak times.
Do note that it’s an unofficial RP server although we have been winning in WvW the last several days.
Actually so far every time I’ve done a dungeon I’ve ended with filling up my last inventory slot with a drop. Thankfully the deposit all collectibles is there to clear up room for weapons and armor.
Above your transactions it should say “Items you’re selling” click that and change it to “Items you’re buying” and you should see your buying offers instead of selling items.
There is no underworld but there are dungeons:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dungeon#List_of_Dungeons
Not sure if that fits your “high end farming area”
you could also possibly go to Orr or whatever the level 80 areas are (I’m not there yet so I’m not sure what they are)
I usually forget it’s there but it sometimes fires off. Can’t remember if it was better or worse after the update .
have you checked on the TP to see if 20 slot bags are selling for a decent price? They may not be but if they are selling for more than the cost of the rune it could be worth selling. I’ve never seen anything that the crafting vendors sell dropped anywhere, which is kind of a bummer, especially the really expensive holding runes.
In case anyone else is looking for the answer, in your character select screen there’s a button on the bottom that allows you to do so.
I’ve had some wonky event participation levels. There have been ones that I’ve come in late but I’ve been there for more than half of it and I get bronze or silver. Others that I’ve not even participated in actively and gotten Gold. A few that I tag a mob or two and get Gold. So I think it may be a bit buggy.
Also did the dragon in Sparkfly Fen (bone dragon, forget his name) and people in chat were complaining they didn’t get credit. I came in about half way through and got bronze but had access to the chest so it was all good.
Going along with what Ari said. Ranger with longbow can drop Barrage on large groups of enemies and get lots of loot. Of course it works best when it’s an event or something with other people doing most of the damage, you’re just essentially tagging them. There’s been times when I have 10-20 bodies to loot after a battle.
Probably, but maybe not as much as I am now. The game is obviously new and I still have so much to do. Unlike many others I haven’t gotten to 80 yet but I expect to within a couple weeks as I’m at 60 now. I’ve also made 3 alts already and I plan on making 1 more. That will cover the 5 races so I’ll probably play through each storyline so I expect that to take a few months at my pace. It still kind of blows my mind how fast people blow through content. I’ve spent more hours in this game than many many other games I’ve owned and I feel I’ve barely scratched the surface and we’ve already got people who are ready to give up on it cause they “have nothing to do.”
I’m also on Tarnished Coast. Was originally on Henge of Denravi but had some friends on Tarnished so I transferred over. So far I like Tarnished. As OP said the community is pretty friendly. I don’t RP either but for the most part it doesn’t bother me and sometimes it’s funny when you run into some people RPing in LA. We also haven’t been doing too bad in WvW so that’s nice.
I kind of agree with the OP. I did my first run of AC and I got 30 tokens. I was pretty amped cause I thought that was pretty good, until I went to the vendor and I realized even the level 35 armor was way out of my reach.
Now I get that the armor shouldn’t be super easy to obtain and most people shouldn’t be able to get it in a week, but I don’t see myself ever getting it. It’s not like it’s gold or karma you can gain from multiple sources and save up over months of playing. I don’t know if I can play the same dungeon over and over again.
The other thing was the non exotic (lvl 35) armor was all generic skin stuff that I already have. What’s the point of buying that ridiculously expensive armor when I have much better stuff just from random drops that looks the same.
One thing I’ve noticed is lower than level 5 items seem to be selling for much more over vendor price than anything decent. Like say a level 2 item is worth 5c to the vendor. I’ve seen them going for 20-30c which seems reasonable to me. Then I get a level 25 item going for like 30c to the vendor and 500 people are selling them for 31c. Totally agree with the OP on how it kinda ruins the TP. We can only hope it evens out a bit in the future, but then again supply and demand means that as long as there are hundreds on the market and no one really buying, it will stay that way.
I would hope it wouldn’t be too difficult to add in. You have the preview option on almost every other screen (inventory, hero, vendors, etc.) I was looking for nice gloves to transmute and I was getting frustrated by not being able to tell what they look like so I’m with you on this.
I found playing support with the Guardian really fun. Lot’s of group heals and protections to help everyone a little bit. You’re not going to be able to keep anyone alive indefinitely but you can help people from getting worn down too much, anything else is up to themselves dodging and using their heals.
While no way “a healing class” my main is a Ranger and there are a couple group healing skills on him as well. There’s a healing spring that does AoE heals and a spirit that does heals and condition removals as well as revivals.
It is very buggy. I tried designing one a few days ago and it never showed me what it looked like except when I previewed banners or weapons. Didn’t show up in the Guild window until a day or two later either.
[Tarnished Coast] Ratdog Nation [RDN] looking for new friendly players.
in Guilds
Posted by: AdamLiborio.8436
We’re currently a small guild run by a few friends who are looking to expand our guild. We primarily play PvE and WvW.
We mainly are looking for friendly and helpful players who are willing to help guild members and participate in dungeon runs or WvW sessions. We’re on the east coast of USA so players in that time zone are preferred but not necessary.
I can be reached in game on the characters Liborio and Sir Liborio. Contact me for an invite. Those players who join and contribute the guild’s growth at this point will be considered for positions as officers in the guild.
Obviously what you’re doing is ok and normal. You’re dying less! It’s really up to you. If you really really want to be melee you’re going to have to do things to help you stay alive. As others have said when possible to see when a boss is using a big move you’ve got to get out. Also I’m not familiar with the Warrior traits but I’d assume there’s at least 1 trait line that helps with survivability so it might be worth checking those out or picking some utility skills that can help out.
Either way I think you’re doing fine. You saw there was a problem and you’ve adapted to the situation which is what this game is all about.
This is players helping players so I don’t think Anet really responds to questions here. I’ve only seen them posting when a post is offtopic.
I usually prefer symmetrical armor as well. Especially heavy armor.
I see a lot of Rangers. I’m a ranger myself and I always notice other pets about. Especially in the sylvari area where I started. I think everyone had the same idea as me for a Sylvari ranger.
Otherwise I see a lot of Warriors and Guardians. Very very few necros. More elementalists. Not too many Eng, Thief, Mesmers.
What I like about the idea: If you have different subsets of friends or people you like to play with who don’t necessarily share or want to be in the same guild but you want to be in both. Like some have said, you may have a guild for WvW, another for PvE and another for sPvP. You may enjoy all these things but some people might only enjoy one or two of them so they won’t want to be in a guild that focuses on something they don’t care about.
What I don’t like about it:
I started a guild. We make very little influence since there is only like 3 or 4 of us representing. If I understand the system properly those who aren’t representing do not make you any influence. It seems that some people aren’t representing by default when they join. So I’m sure some people aren’t representing and they don’t even know it. If you don’t already have a guild it should represent the first guild you join by default at the very least.
EDIT: also about robbing the guild bank. Don’t give withdraw access to those you don’t trust? It’s still possible a “loyal” member you have trusted will rob your bank but that’s a chance you take. They could even do that if there was only 1 guild per person.
There are a lot of specs and playstyles that are just not functional until you reach 70-80 and have all if not most of your traits unlocked and the right gear sets. Sometimes all it takes is 2 upper tier traits that turn a meh or sucky weapon into something totally awesome.
Getting the trait that allows my arrows to penetrate enemies was a bit help on making me not regret playing a longbow ranger. So I believe this statement.
Salvage kits can recover the upgrades on items but generally destroy the item in the process. Depending on what level of salvage kit you have will depend on the chance of recovering the upgrade. In GW1 I recall there being a kit that could remove runes without destroying the armor, so I’m assuming there is one in GW2 as well. Check out the vendors and read the descriptions on all the salvage kits. Also maybe check out the gem shop? Might have one in there that allows you to do that.
EDIT: Looked into it and there’s a Black Lion Salvage kit which has 100% chance to recover the upgrade. Still destroys the item however. I got a Black Lion kit from a Black Lion chest.
