kitten leaving this game half a year ago was best thing I could do since this game launched. Being Anet employee that cares about PvP must be the most frustrating job ever made.
Dragon Bash Arena had no downed state and it was awesome.
1. Company does not focus on PvP side of the game.
2. Encounters are too fast with too much clusterkitten effects, which makes it horrible to spectate.
3. Skills and mechanics with little to none counterplay (condi immunities, instant condispam a.k.a signet of spite and many, many others)
You just can’t take this game seriously.
Chill out bro. They are investigating it.
Removing 1 condition might negate a lot more than 1k direct dmg.
Hard to disagree. However on the topic of ranger builds, I’ve been playing around with beastmaster ranger and I find it way more comfortable in present Warrior-dense environment. When it comes to guardians and warriors you are spot on, I think necros are being pushed a bit from the meta. I’m talking SoloQ btw.
Are the PVP players actually happy about this situation? Cant you see how toxic soloQ has become? How much the overall skill level has fallen?
People dont defend or camp points, they push far at start leaving the first mid battle that decides the tempo of the whole game. Afkers are still there, 4v5 still happen. It has become hotjoin. Not just that, people spend more time accusing and insulting opthers than actually playing to win.
Team Pvp will soon be destroyed as well, once more people get to try it.
How can the PVP players still defend the changes?
In elo hell (sub top 500) it is a pain in the kitten . But when you get to top 500 AP farmers and newbies seem to not interfere, also the amount of dc/leaver/afks decreses. So its really no problem, for me at least.
I belive changes should start from removing the cheese instead of tweaking numbers. Dodge spam, evade spam, condi spam, AoE spam, immunities. These have to go. Then we need to tone down OP stuff, buff UP stuff, revamp unused stuff to create build diversity. Then make new modes that benefit from different builds and playstyles. Then you make rewards/ladders/seasons. Now you have game that is fun to play.
I’m born warrior. Been maining war since GW1, but current state of warrior is disgusting and I refuse to play it. It is the definition of cheese. Sad story.
- Status on reward revamp
- ETA of next balance patch
- Status on game modes development
- Was John Sharp fired ?
I have a job, family and friends and I don’t have 8 hours a day to play to garentee I get everything done.
So there is still hope. You should be happy. It might be a turning point for you.
People make themselves slaves, and make their lives miserable for few points in a game nobody even cares about. Humanity has to extinct. It just has to.
I’d also like to see a pretty decent reduction in AoE damage, both power and condition. As it stands, there’s no reason for someone to focus on single-targetting when AoE is supreme.
Don’t hold your breath. They are trimming AoE down for the past year and still couldn’t do it. They clearly said they will do it and It is a serious topic. If you don’t belive me check some of the early SOTGs.
Guys…just open the pve map and look for the blue little arrows.Even a level 10 can roam a few maps1-10 lvl to unlock 25 skills.
Why pvp players need to be such spoiled babies. Can’t kill something? Adapt? Nah omg nerf Anet.25 skill points? Pve for an hour? Nah omg Anet give us free points.
Also many other mmos make you pay for character slots unlock.Sometimes yoh only get 1 or 2 slots.
And like someone said. You can buy them with books spending glory.Pvers did not get skillpoints for free. They played pve for it.
What if I told you I play 8 professions and need to get 200 skill points ? Hella fun right ? Especially for my PvP only chars on lvl 1.
I played before more than only daily in pvp 1-2h sometimes more 3-4h but not force to do stupid daily points. Now I forced to spend over 4h/day
You are not forced. You force yourself. However being AP slave is only your decision.
Lucky that most of new skills are terrible anyways, otherwise I would be kitten ed if I couldn’t use them immediately. Terrible idea that is shattering the concept of PvP where you play on equal terms.
And when is the next major rewards release ?
The other big things are cooldowns on skills and weapon swap. Most of them are way too short and on many professions you just roll through all skills → swap set → reapeat.
Which is terrible, it wasn’t the case in GW1 cause of energy management. IMO every class should have resource like thief (initiative) and cooldowns on skills, to provide skillful and timed use of abilities.
Easiest way to make ‘content’
- Add dailies that takes hours to complete
– ?
– ProfitDon’t do them then. Why is this so kittening difficult? If it’s too hard, you don’t do it! Wow! Amazing concept!
Thats the part that nobody from this topic understands. Right with the leaderboard tryhard kid.
I love to take a bath in this river of tears. You achievement grinders are hilarious !
And this is the GW2 community we are all so proud of. Nice.
Keep on grinding with your farmbuddies man. PvE community you are so proud of.

I didn’t know Harry Potter worked on Guild Wars 2. . . . wait that is . . . touche :P
Ok, so ppl are discussion about topics like this all over the PvP forum and everything a developer has to say is some lame joke? Rly?
Get used to it that Grouch is the only person on this forum that gives a kitten.
Hambow ain’t goin’ nowhere. It will be just fine after few adjustments.
It took you guys forever to fix this but better late than never I guess.
Imo the solution is a boon that counters condi dmg, just like protection counters direct damage. It doesn’t have to be new boon, could be regeneration or stability. Or even protection itself.
It will stop cheesy condi specs and push the game into a quicker power meta. Finally we can break out of this stale meta and force people to spec more glassy with burst. Not only will mesmers, eles, and thieves make their stand in the meta once more, but the game will become much more enjoyable to play and watch. Great idea with Diamond Skin, ANet!
Cheers,
Vöz
Not sure if troll or serious. I hope you are trolling.
No big deal. They were ugly anyway.
Love the changes however its much too late, and Anet needs to burn conquest to the ground. Its terrible and boring, both for players and spectators.
sPvP has its flaws and they can definitely be game-breaking but overall it’s still a lot of fun
You must be new here.
Great suggestions but I doubt anything of this would be considered. Balance team is separate from PvP team so they have no idea of the cheese that their patches bring. They do the opposite thing they should. Conditions in PvP are out of control and conditions in PvE are bottom of the ocean.
Mark my words. One day AR will be account bound just like Magic Find.
I’m not going to hold my breath. I’ve been burned too much in this game by being too optimistic.
Great quote from another topic. Its hard to be excited and belive that something significant will actualy happen.
Gandara and FSP already 2v1 Deso in primetime.
I’d say yolo q is 80% about luck. If you get a good team comp consisting of 5 non-afking players your chances are dramaticaly higher. And the more necros, wars, rangers in your team, the better.
They do a lot for the amount of people they have and they’ve been getting a lot better about it by trying to keep you guys happy. They are more open, answer more questions, give out patch notes ahead of time that are open for discussion and listening to you. .
They admitted that balance of the game belongs to balance team not PvP team. That rises a question of what the PvP team is working on.
Evan Lesh did the leaderboards and custom arenas. What everyone else has been doing ? (Instead of assuring that they listen to our feedback and they have things down the pipe.)
Snip
I think there’s some confusion here – the PvP Team is an entirely separate entity from the Skills and Balance Team.
The PvP Team’s main focus is improving the infrastructure of PvP – meaning features, rewards, etc.
The teams do often consult each other on various ideas, but they have separate projects.
mind going into a bit more detail about what you guys are actually doing?
from where im sitting it doesn’t seem much, pve rewards better spvp rewards through achievement chests and other than:a few new maps
variants on previous game types
matchmaking tweaks
custom arenas for gems
leaderboardsi don’t see that you’ve done anything, this may be due to my missing announcements or whatever, but feel free to update us.
other than discussing things and “looking at reward balancing” which seems to be a go to phrase for devs when questioned about anything what are you doing atm to make us want to play spvp and make it fun/ interesting.
I’m really curious too.
(edited by Adris.1859)
Exactly. The devs have been simply focusing on improving the game for a full year now. It’s the forums that insist on staying in April 2012.
kitten right man. Look at all the awesome features they made !
We agree that PvP isn’t where we want it to be
This is first step to make something happen, too bad its way too late.
esports will not happen for GW2. Anyone who thinks it will happen is delusional.
Furthermore with current development of PvP, I think the whole PvP section of the game will never be popular. ( It might be fun to play at some time in the near future – 2015, but it would be treated like a side thing to do)
And the devs being so happy about what the have acomplished so far, and how bright will be the future, are just hilarious.
PS: I’ve always been a PvP player, played GW1 PvP for many years. I had huge hopes for GW2 PvP and waited patiently over a year after launch for PvP to be exciting, rewarding and fun. I’m realy glad I’ve gave up on PvP few months ago and moved on.
The thing that it’s still called “paid tournament token” shows you how neglected PvP is.
Aint gonna happen bro. PvP does not generate money. PvE and gem store does.
I’d rather see some sort of whip or chain. I also miss GW1 spear – could be called javelin in GW2.
I belive that every rune and every sigil should be availible in PvP. Same goes for Amulets.
Patch killed “target nearest enemy” button.
1) Game Modes
2) Build Diversity
3) Rewards and Progression
You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention
I will treat that as first step to remove hot join. Why ? Because you (devs) defended hot joins saying, that casuals can jump in and out of the match when they want. Now they won’t gain anything if they jump out of the match so the whole concept just collapsed.
Why would you even dare to defend farming, just get out of here…
Disgusting farmers are the reason this thread started.
Where am I defending farm ? Enlighten me please. Im just pointing out kitten poor fixes. If I were to decide I would remove Skyhammer from Custom Arenas 2 months ago and then work on proper fix.
We’re changing it so that glory is only rewarded at the end of a match, which should stop the exploit where players leave and rejoin the match. We are also actively looking into other options to prevent this exploiting.
Thanks for the report!

What about anticipated for almost a year nerf to AoE in general ?
