@OP

I didn’t finish everything in September.

You can´t imagine though how we feel similar towards the game. Everything is way too easy and what isn’t easy is boring instead of fun.

Only real difference between me and you is I stopped playing 1 month ago and gave Rift another chance (couldn’t get back to Wow I’m afraid)

Fractal concerns with 1/28 patch

So, by some standards I’ve seen here GW2 is the most hardcore mainstream mmo on the market now?

Just makes me feel like lol’ing.

Specially since quite a considerable percentage of hardcore players left the game and it wasn’t yesterday.

Seriously some people are just so fanboyish and insane I don’t even want to comment on it.

Fractal concerns with 1/28 patch

You know what my concerns are?

Seriously I don’t understand how some can still play fractals. Fractals are nothing more than “glorified” dungeons that don’t happen to be difficult just extremely boring and sometimes frustrating due to the fact there are no real mechanics to this game. They just up HP , nerf damage and come up with a kitten called “agony” that isn’t really a mechanic by itself.

I know I will be slammed by saying this but fractals are nothing more than picking up any wow/rift(or any mmo dungeon) dungeon and upping the dmg to extreme lvls.

And we all know how criticized that would be.

My concerns are overall with this game direction. Honestly I think ANet has no clue to where to move next. Do they bring raids (which imo are not possible with the current mechanics of the game) or do they go back to the casual friendly mentality?

I’m bored with the game and haven´t played for a while because I won’t be spending my entire play time doing the same dungeons all over again. If they introduced new mechanics each time you go up or at least every couple of levels I would feel it’s interesting, sadly it’s just the old +HP +dmg type of difficulty.

Which is kinda sad cause I like the game but everytime I log all I hear/see is “fractals” and that makes me logout immediately.

no, I never played a thief…sigh My main is a thief so I don’t have any agendas in regards to saying the warrior tops the thief any day in dungeon content. I also have a warrior but my main is a thief.

It’s more you that can’t see past your own class. I came to an agreement (as lots and lots have) that the guardian and the warrior are the best dungeon classes. I’m not going to fight that as I know it’s true for the warrior part.

Thief actualy brings the best damage.Anyway ,the game is about preventing getting hit and Thief does it best so don’t say melee is easier on Warrior because its simply not true. You’ll have a much easier time whit Thief than Warrior anytime of the day.
Judging by your description you’re looking for something around an elementalist or thief.
Thief is more offensive and Elementalist is more supportive. Both great proffesions for dungeons and really fun.

Only sword has frontal cone auto and sword builds can’t match the damage of a warrior. Thief can spike better against single target and that is possible only if he has outside buffers/debuffers and isn’t focused, warrior can keep 25 stacks of might on it’s own, facetank a lot of stuff, heavy CC on demand and give the rest of the party pretty much permafury and loads of mightstacks. A glassthief can’t carry like a warrior or a guardian can, will die to a sneeze when focused in melee or AoE and is inferior in obliterating a huge group of trash like a GS warrior (example multiple AC breeders, CoE p2, dredge fractal, all Arah paths). Unavoidable conditions like burning on hit/retaliation/etc destroy a thief (example CoE story/exp golems), while a warrior at the same time can shrug it off by superior vitality. This is why a warrior can pressure better in melee. There’s a reason why most thieves swap to ranged on some bosses and why people prefer (or rather want) multiple warrs/heavys to multiple thieves in a party. And that was from a pure glasscannon viewpoint, on the other spectrum or even hybrid point of view, thief can’t even come close to the warr’s supportive powers.

Thief is a good class, but a selfish one, which fits ideally in either pvp or roamer/soloplay pve.

And OP, I’d go with either condi ele or necro (prepare for bugs though), they are loads of fun to play. And with ele you can always respec to bunker in pvp and dominate.

Wrong.
From a glass cannon perspective indeed,
You can’t facetank as a Warrior as much as you would wish too.If the mobs target you , even whit their superior vitality and armour ,they’ll go down just as easy.Thief never gets targeted whit stealth.
The most important fights are single targeted and single target DPS of a Warrior doesn’t even come close to Thief.
There is nothing I couldn’t melee whit my Thief and did it on my Warrior.
Aoe shortbow is better than greasword because you wont last much in melee against too many trash mobs. And don’t underestimate shortbow DPS.
As for support Thief is not selfish at all , I’d love to go into details but this is realy not the place.

You can´t compare a thief with a warrior in melee in pve. True the thief has higher burst but you really don’t need burst in most dung encounters. Aside from that I can run a quite tanky build with the warrior and still dish out more sustained dps than I can with the thief.

And the time you’re stealthed you are losing dps. Shortbow sucks for dungeons aside from a couple of trash pulls. And besides its not uncommon that if you go in after you get back from stealth you get hit again and if you dont dodge all of those attacks most of them will kill you one shot.

Please don’t give the illusion that a thief is somehow better than a warrior at dungeons. That’s simply delusional. Thief has some cool and nice backup strategies that’s all.

Perm bans for snowflake exploit kinda harsh?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Agenteusa.6380

Agenteusa.6380

It’s not kinda harsh. I’m honestly tired of people trying to justify exploiting. Sure there have been situations in all my gaming history in mmo’s where it was reaally obscure what was cheating or not.

But this case, let me put it simply:

If you have a reciped that by breaking it after you craft it you get more mats than you had at the start, you should know something is wrong.

And that’s cool, just contact support and report. You don’t and keep making it, you get yourself banned. Easy as pie.

Don’t complain.

PS I don’t agree with a lot of ANets decisions on this game, but I think against exploiters it has been a sharp response from them. Now on to botters again :P

Well, I read 2-3 of your posts and you now say you wasted 750g on the MF?

Why not buy it if you said it was 200g back then and it got raised to 450g?

I got my spark like 1 and half month ago (might be wrong I can’t rememeber anymore when karka event was).

It was the day exactly after the karka event finished (in which i got the LB precursor) .

I was doing 16 rares a day , 16 daggers of the same type and all lvl 80. And spark came out. It was 4 berserker ones.

Just creating the post for reference. I wouldn’t waste exotics on the MF.

Oh and rare lvl 80 daggers sold for 19s back then. Custom price ofc.

O.o What attitude?

Sorry If I offended you, it wasn’t my intention and I gladly run with mesmers cause any party (provided you have a tanky character) will achieve almost anything in GW2.

That said I only mentioned mesmers are not a BiS class for dungeons imo as they don’t bring to the table what others do.

pvp wise they are the most powerful in the right hands like I mentioned as their skills and abilities synergize much better with player targets.

I like mesmers but we have to be real about it. Full party with guards/warrs can rule evry single dungeon as no other party can imo. And it saddens me but I found this to be quite accurate.

@Ikcen.7518

Elementalist is best damage dealer

Although I don’t play the ele that well , I have friends who I know for sure that master the elem (this is always debatable I know but I’m pretty sure of what I’m saying) and the elementalist is not the best damage dealer. Not even a close 2nd.

And why do you say the thief is the best in pvp. That’s a little vague, it’s the best against people who don’t know how to handle them imo. And then you say they are imbalanced and bugged? Care to explain?

@Sylv.5324

We’re very good at cleansing, buffing friends and debuffing enemies, reflecting boss attacks back on each other, and giving the party ten seconds of massive haste, among other things.

Not to mention dazing/stunning/blinding/bleeding/crippling. Or propagating buffs from ourselves to our allies.

Well you can do that, but so can other classes that bring more dps to the table. As a warrior I can heal myself and others, I can remove conditions , i can keep close to 10 stacks on every party member while keeping most of the times 25 on me, not mentioning stacking vuln. Debuff wise only thing I find very useful to have is (not negating the more the merrier) Weakness .

This is just my POV. I’m not saying mesmers are totally flawed for dungeons. I just think their best abilities are designed for pvp.

no disrespect to you brother, but you’re simply not helping the conversation- you’re hurting the conversation. It’s great that you have an opinion and that you’re willing to express your opinion. “Now for the sampling I can’t tell you irrefutably why…” yes we know you can’t tell us irrefutably why and we can’t tell you irrefutably why either…

No disrespect taken.

But as I and projectcedric have explained the more tries you make the more accurate your results will be.

ANet can´t reply to you on that as well as statistics stand out for themselves. They have a base chance for ectos to drop and that’s it, they can´t tell you for certain how many will drop in an X number of attempts.

Although it’s almost impossible it could happen that you made 5 tries and got ectos everytime and I salvaged 500 and got 0 ectos.

RNG is about that. It’s random even if based on a fixed percentage.

Generalizing:

Guardian – Good at everything really. Only flaw is some problems at range but even that can be specced and respectable.

Warrior – Pve/Dungeons nothing beats him imo. Wvw/sPvp can still be a destructive force but relies on the player on the other side of the spectrum. Still think overall dmg is OP even though I main one toghether with a Thief.

Mesmer – Honestly I think it’s a class oriented towards pvp and quite possibly the best pvp class in the right hands. Pve not that shiny.

Necromancer – Same as the mesmer. Best pvp tank ingame imo. Pve it lacks badly.

Thief – Nice tricks, good at surprising people in pvp. best burst ingame. Pve wise, aside from some cool abilities that allow you to bypass several parts of dungeons I think it lacks standing power.

Engineer – Can be a good bunker in pvp. Support wise there are better classes. For pve I really haven´t found a place for them as tanking with bombs is kinda mehhhhh and their overall dps and healing isnt that great.

Hunter- No idea. never played one enough to give an opinion.

Elementalist – Played a bit but I don’t really have a formulated opinion on them. Seems they are great support though and probably with all those great aoe’s should be quite good for wvw.

The 500 I salvaged was to reply to another post of people questioning one could salvaged so many rares in that time. Dunno what the problem with it is.

Now for the sampling I can’t tell you irrefutably why, but the more tries you do the more accuracy you’re gonna have with the real probability of a glob to be salvaged.

Simply because with just a couple of tries you might not be really sure what the odds are.

“Larger sample sizes generally lead to increased precision when estimating unknown parameters” is a sentence I searched and describes it.

I’ve salvaged over 900 rares in the last 48 hours and still get ~0.91 ectos per rare. Just as stated within a few weeks of release.

RNG is RNG. A sample size of 7 is useless in this case.

I salvaged close to 500 in much less time than 48 hours so I hardly understand what you 2 others are saying about this. What’s the big deal? :W

not trying to disagree with you but what sample size is useful ? and explain what the difference is between a sample size of 7 and the sample size of 900 is exactly?

huh…. Normally for samples to be taken into account they have to be run lots of times. The larger the amount of sampling you do , the more accurate the probability of something happening. And I agree 7 tries isn’t enough to build any prediction on it.

In my view, the Trinity Needs to Come Back

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Agenteusa.6380

Agenteusa.6380

@Op

Imo you’re confusing a couple of things.

Mainly healers and tanks in previous raid centric mmo’s (like Wow and Rift) could play other roles yes. That said they would never almost do it since they were required to fulfill that particular role as dps is easier to find than tanks and healers (at least good ones).

Second, with the way GW2 pve is designed having a trinity wouldn’t make sense. Mainly because deaths are just a small harassment and furthermore it would turn glass cannons into an even more careless attitude.

3rd, I admit I’m missing a bit the REAL trinity but then again when you present some arguments such as we are the backbone of the game, it’s kinda hard being sympathetic towards you.

To finalize, I don’t think GW2 aim was to be a raid centric game nor do I see any means of it becoming one without heavily tampering with the engine. You ask for a trinity , but for a trinity to exist you must have mechanics to match it. Just to give you an example. Think of what Wow would be with a dodge and you will understand what I mean.

Thoughts on DR's and contribution to kills

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Agenteusa.6380

Agenteusa.6380

Hello,

My thoughts :

DR needs to go. Seriously if a company needs to implement DR it’s because the game concept/mechanics is/are flawed.

ANet, you don’t want this to be a grinding game? Good neither do I, make item requirements plausible and you won’t need any more DR in dungeons and even in normal mob killing.

This is not the way to go imo, you are basically streamlining the way a player should play and last time I checked this wasn’t supposed to be a scripted story driven RPG, at least from my understanding.

I hope you realize I’m saying this as constructive criticism.

Another issue I have is contribution to mob kills. I’m not a big fan o WvW, never was and prob never will be but I see myself forced to go there because I need the Badges (and no I don’t want to do them in JP’s because honestly I don’t like being ganked).

So as I had to go WvW i figured I might bring in a lower lvl toon , that way I could do both leveling and the badge farming. Problem is we all know how lower lvls can’t dish out the pain as a full 80 can so most of the timeI end up with nothing even though I always contribute to kills. Lots of times groups just wander around and break apart so this really didn’t like a solution.

Didn’t you say people would be rewarded by contributing? Well why don’t you keep that promise and don’t make me do 30% dmg to a player when there are like 50 beating on one?

Pve wise I understand why you wouldn’t want to reward someone from just tagging a mob but wvw wise I think tagging should be enough as you contributed to that player kill somehow.

Else someone clarify to me how I can farm badges more effectively as a lower lvl (cut the JP’s )?

Worst necro class in any MMO...ever wvw

in Necromancer

Posted by: Agenteusa.6380

Agenteusa.6380

I second what someone said about the necro being UP.

OP:

The necro is a bit lame for pve, but it can be a beast in spvp and WvW.

First I strongly dislike when people start a thread with “I played all the classes to lvl 80”. You know what it tells me?

You don’t have a clue about most of them though cause you’ve been playing on all of them and didn’t learn the specifics of most.

I’m not going to be an hypocrite and say the necro doesn’t have some problems mainly with pets but then again imo pets are best left out of pvp environments.

Simply put (and I’m not going to give you a lectoring here) if you know what you’re doing the necro can be the best bunker build for pvp.

Second it can as someone mentioned be one if not the best condition spec (with very useful aoe’s) in pvp.

You can ask any experienced player and I also play a necro so I know what I’m saying.

3rd – Necros aren’t meant to be built as a glass cannon class, but that is only my opinion since they benefit alot from toughness and vitality and are usually better at wars of attrition.

you can ofc spec glass but then youre a caster and will have a hard time staying alive specially if you dont invest heavily in the DS tree.

Necros are a major power in pvp. Not in pve. So they are far from sucking like you imply.

Is dying to backstab a L2P issue?

in Thief

Posted by: Agenteusa.6380

Agenteusa.6380

If you are mentioning me I didn’t say mesmers were OP due to burst.

Thing is mesmer fields and the advantage of aoe and overall chaoes they can cause which we don’t have ofc (SB isn’t that good aside from the tele in spvp).

Plus confusion is a heavy shutdown cause even if you remove it they can reapply it pretty quickly.

Then you have to decide if youre going to walk away or burst yourself to death.

It’s just too chaotic and the fact they can pop out clones/phantasms/illusion so fast and can shatter just as fast applying confusion with any shatter that makes them a bit OP imo. Plus you still have to say that it can hard to say sometimes who the real mesmer is as not everyone is a pro and keep popping clones as they spawn isn’t really an option.

Is dying to backstab a L2P issue?

in Thief

Posted by: Agenteusa.6380

Agenteusa.6380

Simply put, yes it’s a L2P issue.

Why?

Well I admit it can be difficult sometimes to avoid the whole chain that usually ends up with a kill but that’s cause of the nature of the thief.

The problem is most people always had and probably always will have problems playing against stealth classes. People panic and it only gets worse if they got killed several times already by a stealth class.

This happens in several mmo’s where stealth is even more imba then here.

I don’t think fixing skills or overall dmg can be done without breaking the class completely because if our burst is removed let’s just say we are nothing but a bad warrior. (Or possibly a class whose only purpose is to run away from a fight).

Now, going into spvp or wvw without a stunbreaker is kind of insane , however I have no doubt in my mind lots and lots of folks do that. So thing is yes, bring awareness to a fight and a stunbreaker and you won’t get killed by a backstab thief as often as you are now.

On a side note :

To the ones who say the thief is OP, please drop that already. I know you hate an invisible guy killing you but if you continue down that road you will turn the thief into an unplayable class as a damage dealer (discounting the rendering issues in wvw).

Comes to mind the mesmer (which I think its the most chaotic class to play against in pvp imo), which can keep spawning clones and send them to you and stack confusion which is kinda OP as well in spvp/wvw. And I consider it OP cause you can’t constantly be checking for every kitten clone and confusion is simply put the best condition in pvp and I guess I don’t have to explain why.

I got quite confused at the AMA

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Agenteusa.6380

Agenteusa.6380

Hello,

First let me start by saying that I always have been defending ANet (sometimes too vigorously) through all the latest complaint posts and accusations.

My position on vertical progression is quite mixed but lately (and I never played GW1) I understand some players that defend the theory that games shouldn’t evolve in stats as I realized after years and years of HC raiding in the other “oh-so mentioned mmo” that I really don’t want to do more X dmg so that the boss has more Y dmg. Really doesn´t make sense. (I had a laidback opinion on this some days ago yes).

I still try to keep my hope alive at doing it but that AMA sure got me confused and worried.

1 – I don’t think Chris or ANet prepared themselves properly for the questions which I find weird unless they really don’t read anything on the forums. I mean most of the questions answered are we are looking into it and even those they decided their philosophy on are being answered with a “we are looking into it” answer.
At this point Chris should be prepared and with all info to be able to disclose a path of progression on GW2 cause at the moment I’m really not sure what to invest on.

Should I go for legendary as I already have the precursor? Dunno cause 15 days from now it could be much easier to obtain and I will feel kinda ripped.

Should I farm for X or Y tokens? Again don’t know as they might be coming by larger bunches.

These are examples of questions that should have been answered and mind you they were asked but they got poorly replied to.

I don’t foresee any “end of the world” nor this is that kind of thread but the indications from that AMA kinda remind me of SWTOR and how it ended up. Now ANet is much more experienced than Bioware at making mmo’s so I clearly was expecting more insightful answers.

What do you guys think?

Did you get a sense of fulfillment out of the AMA?

PS I know there’s a thread about the AMA but since I wanted to get some opinions I know after 3-4 posts the chain would be lost so I hope you understand that.

They did change things the last minute. The game was going in a completely different direction and all of a sudden you have this post saying that in a few days the game will abandon horizontal progression for vertical progression.

If that wasn’t abrupt I don’t know what is.

P.S. can you please include the poster name when you quote someone? It’s difficult to follow the conversation when all you quotes are anonymous. Thanks.

Sorry about the anonymous quote.

The difference should be obvious. SWTOR didn’t change directions. They officially anounced a feature for a certain release date and the day they scheduled that feature to be delivered they removed it causing lots of people to pay and not get what they were expecting to get.

In GW2 case, first it’s not even a subscription based mmo so you really can’t say you have been ripped. They purely changed their vision and that’s something they can and surely will continue to do if they see fit.
And besides you’re not paying anything for the content so…
Had ANet told me (if I was paying for a subscription) that let´s say November 29 X functionality would be released with a patch and I had to resubscribe to use it and on the 29th they removed it thne I would say it was a scam.

That wasn´t the case. They released a game with a certain philosophy. 3 months into the game they decided they should change that philosophy. I don’t know what’s your confusion here…:W

I really don’t see why you consider that very different from here. They said there wouldn’t be vertical progression, poeple purchased and at the last minute they said they’d add a new tier of gear.

The only real difference I see is that you disliked ranked pvp in SWTOR while you are fine with vertical progression in GW2.

I wouldn’t call that being objective.

They didn’t change anything in GW2 at the last minute. Almost 3 months have gone by. In SWTOR they said ranked pvp would be in from the beginning and they failed to deliver. People kept playing anyhow. They announced some 4-5 (can´t remember accurately) months later the ranked pvp was ready and would come out in patch X. At that point several players had put the game on hold. Curiously the patch was supposed to be release right at the end of a billing cycle. The day the patch was supposed to be released they announce some hours before that ranked pvp wouldn’t be in it. So that means lots of people payed for something that was announced and wasn’t delivered.

Sure they gave free time and crap but the scam was still there. I don’t see anything comparable in GW 2 , sorry.

And you might have misinterpreted me, I was waiting for ranked pvp in SWTOR so I was scammed.

I’m divided. I’m not a big fan of having to grind everytime a patch/expansion comes out but I’m also not a fan of sitting at endgame aiming at skins for character progression.

Dear gamers, please don't ruin this for me.

Like it or not, it DOES make this game an entirely different type of game. The focus has changed. So the anger at that is justified.

The logic is simply. I buy something because of reason A. They change A. I feel cheated.

If you cannot grasp this then you have a problem. I cannot make it more simple than that. Now, I do get that most companies if not all are liberal with the truth but a complete 180 is a big deal. It just completely changes what this game is about.

Yes it makes the game different but the anger is still not justifiable.

And please don’t make cake analogies. I’m not a donkey. But since you wanna go that route let me explain it to you why your analogy is flawed.

When you buy a product A (let´s say a cake) you don’t abide by any terms and don’t have to agree to them. You buy a chocolate cake and from the 1st to the last bite you know it will always be chocolate. The seller that sold you the cake isn’t going to change your cake to vanilla after you give it a bite because he has no right to do that.

You bought a game here and if you read the terms and agreement (you know that box that no one taht complains ever reads) you will notice they reserve the rights to make changes however they see fit. I think this part is covered.

Now I’m not here to discuss moral issues. You and others feel cheated and you have every right to. What I don’t think you are entitled to is to force, and start menacing and armaggedon type threads just because they enforced something you accepted in the first place.
SWTOR went in a direction I didn’t like I quit. Some of my friends didn’t have that problem so they kept playing. I’m not the center of the world , thats why I did it without any fuss about it.
I don’t understand why other can’t behave similarly or at least try to understand GW2 or any otehr game is not ours to control and create despicable threads insulting devs, insulting company, basically talking thrash because if they aren’t having fun no one can have afun.

Dear gamers, please don't ruin this for me.

If you were actually reading the forums lately, you’d have answers to those questions. Everything has been clearly explained ad nauseum, time and time again.

The question wasn’t for you. And stop being vague I asked a question about something that’s been said and provided answers to it.

Have you watched the Manifesto video from Arenanet? If not or if it’s been a while watch it again and LISTEN to what they explain about their philosophy.

I understand if you like the new approach, but if you watch that video where they proclaim their way of doing things and compare it to this new direction, you must surely see that they are not a match.

I am not arguing here what’s good or bad about GW2. Just saying that when you hear what Anet have been saying over the years and what they are doing now, you can only conclude it’s not the same.

Truly, I invite you to watch that manifesto video. It’s still here on the official website and on youtube. No one who can reason can argue that this new direction fits what they said in this video and all the other interviews and press releases they did.

Whether you like this new direction or not is besides the point.

Yes , I read the manifesto. And I agree with some things and I disagree with others. What I disagree is people that think they are the owners of the game content. They are not.
The manifesto is as you rightly proclaimed it their philosophy. Well my point is they can change their philosophy anytime they want and as they please.
My answer to the post above was purely because someone now is saying they wanted a refund because ANet changed the “nature” of the game???
No they didn’t period. This isn’t even a discussion.
Bottom line is only I’m fed up with posts that have no logic whatsoever.
Some don’t like the gear treadmill, some do. It was their philosophy to not make a treadmill, well they changed it. They are entitled to it. Like it fine, keep playing, don’t like it don’t come here with futuristic predictions and “it’s the end of GW2” posts.
Move on like I did in several other mmo’s when my requirements to play weren’t fulfilled.
GW2 is ANet’s son. It’s not our property.

The very reason we come here is to make sure that this game does NOT turn into a SWTOR or a WoW That’s why our posts have been negative of late.

SWTOR’s downfall was indeed scamming. What triggered(although I’m sure it isn’t the only reason) it was the descisions on the inclusion of ranked pvp. They announced it would come in patch X and players resubbed and at the last minute they said it wasn’t ready. That is scamming because players payed to play content not delivered to them in the due time.

As for Wow , I can’t really say it’s a downfall yet. I don’t play it anymore personally but it still has a pretty strong playerbase.

And yet another “Does the pope kitten in the woods” thread. This is starting to get ridiculous.

Players suck, people are rude and can´t complete content!!

Whose fault is it?

Obviously FOTM.

I’m not saying adding Ascended gear is a wrongdoing Don’t you understand that?, I’m saying selling me a product saying it will have A and not B to change the nature of the product so that it has B not A is a wrongdoing. Don’t you understand that? It’s called scamming. Don’t you understand that? And as I said before, I can’t get my money back because they made the change more than 6 months after initial pre-purchases. Don’t you understand that?

Are you delusional? Did you read the terms at least? They haven´t changed the nature of the product. It’s still a fantasy based MMORPG so your argument is heavily flawed.

Scamming? Can you point exactly where did they scam you. Where in the terms do they say they can’t include/update content as they see fit?

I’m the one asking, don’t YOU understand that??

That is not Guild Wars.
That is WoW.
That kitten is the reason why I was playing Guild Wars and not WoW.

Guild wars is whatever ANet decides it to be. If they decide to implement unicorns tomorrow they can and that will be a part of Guild Wars.

think of wvw as pve, except your mobs are smarter and move in groups, so you have to move with “npcs” as well or get left behind

Hmmm I’m not sure I agree with this statement. Are you really sure they are smarter?

Let me diagnose this :

The most verbal people seem to be previous GW1 players.
Your problem is not that ANet changed the manifesto (although I too think a company should stick to what its vision is but we all know visions can change through time) it’s that you want GW2 to be an upgraded GW1 and you refute any change that will put that in cause.

You are forgetting something though, it’s ANet’s vision not yours. ANet will change that vision as they see fit and you either accept it or move on to something that fulfills your requirements.

This game is not about character progression. Why on earth do people believe it is? This isnt a character progression MMO. You hit 80, you complete your story. Its up to you where to go next, much like the rest of your leveling experience. Up to you.
Theres no character progression.

So let’s be extreme then. I can’t see an rpg without character progression. Before being an mmo this game is an RPG. You seem to suggest then that you wouldn’t even need to lvl past lvl 1 and just have to farm for skins with everything handed out to everyone from the start so we all started on the same terms.

Is that it?

Seriously if you say GW2 isn’t about character progression I would like to know what you call from 1-80 and quite frankly after 80 it’s exactly the same except you don’t gain levels anymore. Think about it for a sec there.

Hopefully my break down for why its not longer fun for me helps you understand this

1) I don’t like like being required to grind for gear
2) This new patch requires me to grind for gear now and in the future because not only does this gear have better stats (and so will the next pieces), but Agony will be required to participate in future content, ANET said it will be used in the future, you don’t get progression. This means, if I want to experience new content and be the best I can be in WvW I’m required to grind
3) MMORPGs are an overall process of character development and exploration. Its also a social. Thats why I prefer MMORPGs over single player games, even games like Skyrim. If I don’t like what the future holds, because it involves things I don’t like (vertical gear progression tied to RNG) I lose my desire to play.

1- You don´t have to. I don’t like puzzles so I don’t do puzzles.

2- No, Agony is required to participate in content that’s already implemented. Check your facts. From lvl 10 on fractal bosses will start using agony as an effect on you. So basically you are hoping your way up while getting tokens to get all the agony you need. And the Ascended gear you might want as well even though you won’t NEED it.

3 – How do you do character progression without gear progression? Grow a beard? Buy some new jeans?

That wasn’t really the deal here, all was very clear and you always have people shouting in map chat where to go, the topic was about those precursors who dropped like candy not about communication. Arenanet stated that they would do something about the precursors being ‘out of reach’ for the most players and this was intentionally done by them, however I don’t think they had in mind the trial players could get their hands on them so easily

1 – precursors didn’t drop like candy. I’m throwing a number up but probably no more than 15% who played the event got one or more.

2 – What do you mean they didn’t have it in mind? Ofc they did. All you had to do to get the chest was to login 5 mins before the event ended, join an OF that had it occuring and you had the chest. Plus the event was just ultra boring. You could be naked there and still get the chest. I’m pretty sure ANet knew what they were doing.

And now people are throwing the argument again that “I have xxx hours played and I ain’t got the lootz!!”.

I’m frankly sick and tired of explaining this, IT’S RNG. Meaning you can get Dusk and Dawn in 15 mins or get none in 3 months.

Me for instance, I got a precursor from the chest. Gave it away to a guildie since I play a game to enjoy myself and help others where I can (and I’m not piss broke so).

Never before did I get an exo or a precursor with over 800 hours played. I throw daily 16 rare items in the forge to get my precursor and although I know lots of people have thrown more I am over 500 rares into the forge.

The day after the event there I go and do my daily on the MF and I get my precursor. Just like that. It happens, it’s luck. Keep trying it will eventually happen for you.

So the chance is just given to those who can make it. Those who can’t aren’t included. Why they can’t = a number of reasons of course. It’s Monday morning, some people need to work, go to school, attend an important meeting, went to a funeral, etc.

If that’s really just for a one-time event, at least inform everyone prior to the event that “hey we’re giving this reward: the chance to get a precursor and a guaranteed 20 slot bag + acc. save yourself hours of farming golds. don’t miss this chance! it’s one time event!”, then maybe people can decide after that. No one can complain since it’s given yet they decided to miss the chance. It’s their choice.

I wouldn’t miss a funeral of a beloved one no matter what they announce so what’s your point? Is it that ANet has to make sure that you’re not in the toilet before the event ends?

Can’t you see how ridiculous those arguments are?

@Evil

I am upset. you wanna know why. Cause there are trillions of threads QQ’ing about the event , resorting to all kinds of justifications to why did the event reward some and not others.

Well, the event rewarded those that were there. It’s not ANet fault (and no I am not a fanboy, else I wouldn’t be swimming in infractions) that people decided to rule out the possibility that the event was going to award something good (still random btw).

ANet has missed on several points but this one was not one of them and players keep the mentality of crashing and burning the entire community with childish remarks.

Even some demanding bans for people that did the event with several character, I mean seriously?

They don’t have a server infrastrcture to be able to play the event in several timezones so that’s a problem that couldn’t be circumvented. some had technical difficulties with crashes and so and ANet already said they were going to fix it for those players.

But now arguments “Oh I had to go out with my GF and I couldn’t do the event and you hand out precursors(even this is sarcasm as lots really believe that everyone got precursors when that clearly isn’t true)? How could you do that on an event I mean we want this to be a casual mmo with no V-progression yet you hand over to a trialist what I’ve been farming for 3 months? how dare you

That’s the kind of mentality I’m upset over. Blame them when they do something wrong. Don’t create a flaming mess on the forums for something that clearly isn’t their fault.

This patch has ‘complete lack of communication’ written all over it…from where to go and how to participate in the event, to responses of player concerns regarding the BIG changes to the game.

~

Dude, they released almost all the info 2 weeks prior to the event. all the quest logs were clear and concise on what to do next. I don’t understand where the lack of communication was. Did you even bother to check the forums if you had any doubts about anything?

And please don’t reply to me saying “Oh but I’m playing the game, why should I need to go to the forums?”

Again all was clear and concise , what wasn´t clear was the rewards but hey, they passed the message UNIQUE and ONE TIME so at least it should get people interested cause personally the event sucked in terms of fun.

Yes, 2 precursors from a chest. RNG from the beginning.

I’m honestly tired of all the crybabies in this forum. Bunches of grown ups crying like little girls because they didn’t get a shiny.

You knew all along it was luck based so you were unlucky some were lucky, where’s the problem?

And what does it have to do with being trialists. Almost looks like ypu play a monthly fee to play….geez.

They want to show their best content to the new people so why should they be nerfed at the end.

@OP

You could be smarter and try to make a deal with trialists that did get precursors and aren’t eventually going to keep playing.

Bottom line we all know if you had get yourr shinies you wouln’t be here on the forums crying out loud and quite frankly I’m tired of people complaining about it.

ANet will fix the issue for those who were there and had technical issues which is the only thing I deem right and they should fix.

To the rest just shut up already and grow up. I bet many of you are the ones that want and defend GW2 to keep a casual path yet you are the first ones to point a finger and giving excuses “I’ve been farming for X, Y, Z days and someone got on yesterday and got what I wanted”. Precursors are and always were random from the beginning so try to get that into your heads and think rationally.

Isn’t right that any skill should have its place and its situation when it is right to be used, autoattack also?

Well generally in mmo’s auto attack is only used when you can’t use anything else. At least all the past mmo’s I played fall under that category.

And I acknowledge your explanation but why would you use PW while stealthed?

The prob here is I’m throwing into the mix pve and pvp so I will agree with you on the pvp side. Pve I don’t feel PW should deal less dmg than auto attack specially cause I aim to run with premades where 2 people share the aggro most of the time( and yes it’s possible ).

PvP wise yes I think PW can be much more useful than AA .

Look, just forget it, I just don’t see the point to discuss about it with you or anyone else any longer. You’re not worth the time I would invest replying to you.

Your opinion (of someone who managed to get his rewards, important fact) is quite simple and can be summarized in one sentence regardless of what is said:
“You couldn’t make it, deal with it idiots”.
So I don’t see the point to push it any further, especially considering how you (or we) read/express posts incorrectly.

Didn’t think I were.

Your opinion (of someone who didn’t get his loot because he deemed the game was unplayable/had RL things to do and now is blaming others even if he was already told they are dealing with people who participated) is quite simple and can be summarized in one sentence regardless of what is said:
“I didn’t get my rewards, everything that people tells me is wrong cause I am the god of right”.

Besides I know I did my event cause I got the chest at the end. I don’t know for a fact why you didn’t you could just be making this up from skipping it and now realizing you shouldn’t have. who knows?

Just so we get on the same point.

Learn to respect the next one and you will get equal treatment next time.

Number 1 – No, they did not. A fair chance would be a 24 hour period of the event going on every 3 hours. Plenty of time for a lot more people to participate. Will everyone get a chance? No, but one solid 24 hour period for an event is where I can comfortably draw the line and say they tried to please the masses. And the technical issues were half of the problems in the first place.

That involves server infrastructure and other crap I’m not going to debate cause it’s irrelevant to the issue. The fact is they have servers on only one timezone. So everyone has to play during the hours they set and deemed the most populated statistically speaking.

They informed way before hand. They had problems but as someone pointed out in this thread they are going to compensate those that couldn’t get the chest due to technical issues.

Now they design their events the way they want. It’s not up to you or me to decide if it’s a 3 hour or 24 hour event…I mean come on… Besides expanding the event from what they had in mind would probably bring difficulties along the lines of people farming chests all night with different alts as they could. Goes beyond me and you what architecture limitations they have.

1 – I though we were talking about exotic/precursor gear here. What’s the fuss about a 10g bag. You can do some fractals and get the same bag. And it’s not like 10g is a hefty amount. Besides 2 slots isn’t really that much of a difference now is it?

2 – No the time of the event doesn’t go against the casual friendly mentality. It’s normally the time most people are at home. Like I said they have technical limitations because they are located in the US so that’s the guideline. Like it or not its the way it is. They aren’t going to buy a server farm for every timezone there is and I can understand why. If your laptop lagged it was either:
A- You had graphical problems because your card isn’t up to par.
B – You had server lag from your connection to their servers.
Yes, their servers were stressed but I could play moderately well from a certain point so if it was only their servers fault everyone would be on the same situation which clearly isn’t the case.
So on the other 2 issues, it’s still your fault not theirs.

3 – It gave the slippers as a one time reward but exos aside from the slippers dropped from chests. Maybe it’s you that needs to do some reading as I know what I’m saying so please don’t try to turn things around.
The second part is irrelevant to this point imo. You knew you had 3 days for the puzzle, you knew you had one day for this event. Period.

4 -you’re right I’m not better than anyone nor do I aim to be. And in case you didn’t notice that comment wasn’t aimed at you.

5 – Yes, and you are taking it out of context. I stated that you had a chance at a precursor at a jumping puzzle to explain RNG. I said it’s not because I feel left out of content that I’m going to complain about what rewards it gives.

Then you said that you felt fine cause players had a legendary one month after launch and I refuted that they had them because they exploited. that was to exemplify that you seem to be concerned about whatever drops in a onetime event chest yet you failed to realize that your statement is heavily flawed cause it’s not fair either.

So you are linking 2 completely distinct thoughts.

Furthermore as I explained before I also head unplayable lag during the first phase. I kept going.
I dc’ed twice and joined other overflows that were at a complete distinct part during phase 2.
During phase 3 I fortunately didn’t DC but got stuck in those webs from using Steal and had to tele back.
So in the end all you needed to complte this event and get your chest was to log on during the last 5 mins.

Exactly for which reason if an autoattack hits harder than a certain skill something is wrong?
There are plenty of examples of autoattacks that hits harder than another skill in the same bar, but it doesn’t mean that this skill is weak.

Your perception, in my opinion, is biased. The nerf were fair, you also obtained buffs to strategic skills like smoke bomb, scoprion wire or smoke screen, so it is quite clear that ANet has no hate against your profession.

Let me tell you I’m not biased cause I play all classes except the ranger and dedicate time to each of them. In fact the thief is not even my main.

Second I really don’t think CnD nerf makes a whole lot of change. I know my numbers it’s not because of 3k you’re going to avoid that but that is a different debate and I don’t want to go there. And if you need a HS might as well just auto attack and save the initiative (depending on how your AA hits).

The reason I think an AA should’t hit harder than PW for instance is basically cost. Why you ask, if PW has an evade and a stun. True that but in a perfect world (and god know I don’t play with Toughness or Vitality on my thief in pve for instance) I wouldn’t want to have mob attention on me. So why should I use PW if it’s situational and hits for less than a skill that costs 0 , also applies debuffs and even refunds initiative if specced?

Again, some bomb, meh, scorpion wire, even more meh since lots of mobs are linked anyway, smoke screen was a nice buff I agree. This in pve.

Pvp wise SW is quite good, smoke bomb is still a bit short imo and smoke screen is also highly situational because of positioning issues.

What I meant is not that the thief is nerfed to death at this point. We are still very good if played correctly. I just feel from past mmo experiences that we are disliked and will be given a nerf bat in the following months but that is speculation.

@ Agenteusa.6380

My last post of the night before I crash.
- Dude, read my flipping first post. I’m not pissed because the items were good. I’m pissed because such a high value item should not just be thrown into a game so recklessly, without giving everyone a fair chance at it. That’s a 20,000 gem lotto they just had earlier tonight, and a lot of people picked the winning numbers. High end content is there for everyone. Farming mobs endlessly is there for everyone. This event is gone. One time, and that’s it, and it wasn’t even held for very long.
- And let me give you an example you can understand. You think 3 hours of effort is enough to deserve these items? Now that is some self entitlement. People have been grinding and farming for months, just to have some event like this give away the items they have been working for. That’s a slap in the face. I personally think a 20 slot bag, a kitten good trinket, and even some rares to boot would of been more than enough. Hell, throw some gold on top of that too. Its still more loot / gold than most people are going to make in 3 hours.
- Let me assure you, that even if I ran this event, and didn’t get a single item (if i even managed to finish it without the server crashing on me) I would still be upset about the many other things wrong with the event. Do you still think this event was good? Read almost every other forum post besides mine. There are a dozen legitimate reasons this event wasn’t up to par.

1 – They did give a fair chance at everyone of getting it (asides from the technical issues of servers being located only in one timezone and the DC’s which we covered already and you know my opinion). You just had to log in and 20 pm GMT and fight for 3 hours and hope RNG was good to you. That’s it.

2 – No , and I never said it would entitle me to anything. I didn’t know what I was going to get. I just did the event in the hopes of getting something nice and different since it was one time and unique. I would be kind of let off if I did get 2 blues in the end I assume that though.

3- You also know my opinion on this. No, I think the event sucked and was boring to hell. But that has nothing to do with the discussion. I will say again that they should give the chest to people that played TILL THE END and got a dc or something like 30 mins before the end of the event. If someone logged on, killed karka’s for five minutes and then chose to log off on his own will, well bad choice.
