Best new solo elite spec

To be honest, most of the elites felt lacking for open world ontent, at least in terms of their new weapons.

Scourge, regardless of what people says, doesn’t feels good for Open World. It is about taking down mobs and fighting Veterans and Champions alone whereas Scrourge is mostly condi and support; sand shades take long to burn down stuff when compared to what you can do with a Power Reaper (since power stil tops off condi for open world solo content) and you’re sacrificing survivability anyways without reaper shroud.

Most new elites seem condition/support oriented, which makes them unfitting for open world.

Even from a casual point of view this argument is BS. I spent 4 months weith a project: completely gear a Ranger with viper gear, as I had like, 9 gold and all crafting in 0s. When I finally did it, I noticed how it took forever and a million years to kill ANYTHING, even with ascended gears, whereas I could just run into stuff and maul them with my GS 2. I ended up deleting in favor of a Power Guardian…

This is why I’m all against the release of benchmarks, specially when they’re tested under unrealistic circumstances, HECK, even qtfy accepts they’re unrealistic circumstances! If the people who enters to see the benchmarks has the reading capacity of a mole… There’s a disclaimer that people completely seems to forget about.

“These numbers are the numbers done in a vacuum under almost optimal conditions. Some builds, which are weak on the golem, will be the strongest on certain encounters.”.

The thing with condition damage is that it takes TIME to do the damage it does, it has to ramp up, it can be cleansed, and no, you don’t need one stat to make it work, you also need duration, and not every class is a Berserker or Condi Tempest so not everyone will be using runes to substitute duration, which even then STILL uses Viper Gear.

Plus you’re talking about GS Warr DPS, and GS was always a weapon that makes the noise of a plank AND hits like a plank… it was always pathetic, it was never a DPS weapon, people love it because it makes you a buff bot and has mobility, the fact that it’s an oversize it knife doesn’t makes it anything powerful. Plus look at benchmarks, power Ele and DH are still tops.

Yeah, we don’t enjoy the same class balance other games offer but Power is not useless. That said, get ready for PoF when Griever stats completely replace Berserker tho, but stop following the qtfy benchmarks as a religion and focus on improving your own gameplay and survivability…

…we get recolored enemies and NPC models as bosses in fractals, Raids get so much better enemy and scenario design…

Did it occur to you that’s precisely BECAUSE raids aren’t complete faceroll (even tough they actually are lol)?

What separates raid and open world bosses are not enemy models or storytelling. In my 1 year of raiding I’ve barely paid any attention to the story aspects of raids. It’s their complex mechanics and attack patterns that make the fights so intriguing. If you dumb them down, they’ll just become the new open world bosses and all the people calling for ezmodes will immediately lose interest.

I’m not even kidding at this point. What do you think separates Keep Construct from Inquest Golem Mk II? If you think it’s the storytelling or model design you’re just being delusional. It’s the gameplay mechanics that define raids.

And surely WoW and FFXIV is completely hard without Raids and that’s why they introduced dificulties, right? With the right build, Open World MMOs, unless they’re a korean grindfest (and even those) have a tendency to be faceroll easy, whereas instanced content is challenging, and even then the most challenging content is tiered for all players to enjoy, be it dungeons (fractals for us) or raids.

It is quite baffling to see people selling a raid spot for 100 gold and how DPS meters have bled into T3 fractals when the people who uses them can’t even pull their own rotation right.

Why is it so bad that people wants tiered raid systems? It’s not like suddenly the high tiered raids will stop being challenging. So, like, in soccer, I should expect junior leagues to be eliminated because they have to “git gud to enjoy soccer”?

The fact that Raiding in its current state has divided the community so much just shows how badly implemented they are, it’s content we paid for in the expansion, yet many people can’t enjoy because it became a Discord VIP club.

And yes, it gets tiring when all we face for years is a leyline anomaly, an overgrown asura or cat golems; at least they included Wii Fit trainer as a boss this time.

Can we stop blaming the community for content that Anet badly implemented?

Raids are completely fine, there was elitism even before they came. I’ve been using a Condi Rev using Carrion gear on T2/T3 Fracs since pretty much HoT came out and I’ve had no problem. Remember when Dungeon LFG was “Lvl 80 exp only”? What about those peeps that think an elementalist with Zerk gear or a Ranger with Viper is automatically better than a Reaper with Soldier that will end up dealing more damage than the ranger and ele because he will fall down less? Worse, more LFGs aren’t even speedrun groups.

The thing is, Raids didn’t turn the community into an elite festa out of the blues, this always existed.

Now, the implementation of Raids and how Anet manages them is bad, but well, what can I expect when they promised no geaer threadmill but they still introduce it in the form of new stat combos each expac? Raids in every other MMO I know, except maybe Wildstar, have an “easy” mode. FFXIV, WoW, Rift… This, being a mostly casual game, SHOULD have it, but Anet has been quite naive with the way they handle it to the public, their statements pretty much being “we can but we won’t because this is so pro”. To be honest, I understand why people feels so frustrated; we get recolored enemies and NPC models as bosses in fractals, Raids get so much better enemy and scenario design…

Stat availability should be reviewed

Its not just HoT stat that are hard to get.

There’s alot of stats even in Central Tyria content that are very difficult to suit up with. At best, you can usually manage it through some kind of combination of gold and karma (such as Magi, Rabid, Cavalier,Soldiers), but unless you go for full stat-selectable ascended, you’ll often be making sacrifices and unable to min/max, for example many trinkets lack exotic jewels and must use rare crests.

This has alot with how they added new stats to the game being a huge, inconsistent mess for most of the game’s lifetime. They only started to standardise it around the time of Dry Top and it didn’t really stabilize until HoT.

I suspect that HoT stat combos will not only remain hard to get, but that many interesting Central Tyria combos will also remain unpolished. Also I believe that if you saw everything that CT has to offer (currently only fully visible on the wiki), you’d probably feel that HoT stats aren’t so neccessary unless you specifically need Concentration or Expertise in your build.

I’d like if they did a big revision on all stat combos, like they did with PvP.

My problem with core Tyria condition builds is that they are too underwhelming when compared to HoT ones, to the point the HoT version simply feels necesary.

With Berserker you get a very good combination of three stats which compliment each other. With stuff like Carrion or Rabid, you get very good condition damage, but really low Power, which is needed to hurt with your weapon attacks as well as with the condition ticks; there’s no stat combo in Core Tyria that grants good damage paired with nice condition, the way Viper does, sacrificing only a bit of each.

I feel the same will happen to zerk builds once Griever comes out, it just feels like they’re updating the stats, thus, creating a gear threadmill, which they promised wouldn’t happen.

Been playing GW2 since HoT came out, in a very, very casual way. I’m mostly a PvE open world kind of guy, but T4 Fractals and Raids get my attention, currently on T2 fracs and working on my agony resistance.

Problem is, for someone who hasn’t time enough to even try crafting, I feel HoT stats are very hard to get compared to core Tyria, and I’m afraid this will happen again with PoF. Most of the new elites are condition based.

Even if I mainly play low level Fractals and open world, the difference between, say, Viper and Rabid/Carrion is very noticeable. During the first PoF demo, I could try both Berserker and Ranger in Rabid, Carrion and Viper gear, and even for open world play, it took too long to kill with core condition gear; Viper got the job done fast and it was fun to play.

With many new combos coming, I just sigh thinking how hard it will be to try new things. You can’t get them with Karma, creating ascended armor is very expensive, and somehow exotic drops with said stats are completely non existent.

It would be nice to get other ways to obtain said gear, as right now the only ways to do so without recurring to incredibly niche methods (achievements and completing HoT with alts for ONE exotic set) are WvW reward tracks and crafting.

It’s quite discouraging to see Anet pushing conditions as the go-to, but still making it hard for casuals to drop in and play, something anyone can do with Berserker gear.

Hey guys, been playing Power builds since game came out, and avoiding crafting, as it’s something I do not enjoy in any game. However, some of the classes I like the most (Warrior, Ranger, Engi) either have or will have elites based in condition damage.

I’ve been saving gold and materials to buy myself gems, comesthics and more. I am mostly an open world PVE player and I do T2 fractals currently, but I wanna get into higher scale fractals to farm for ascendeds and also jumping into Raids later on.

However getting Viper Gear is a pain, either having to complete the HoT story several times for an exotic set, farming winterberries in order to get all the trinkets, or just putting all my gold into crafting, which it seems I must, as I want both a medium armor and heavy armor class (Ranger/Soulbeast and Berserker).

Any idea on how to get started with all this? I know there are crafting guides and I got the materials but I wanna know more.

Serious? This game has more rewards for doing nothing than anything I have experienced, it’s literally inventory filling with loot every 20 mins.

And items do not inflate currency, only coin rewards do that.

I think you just need to look into how you can take better advantage of the loot you are getting.

Yea it fills ur inventory with trash. Nothing of value or use

Do you want a precursor every kill? What do you actually expect?

If I’m in a level 80 zone I shouldn’t be getting a bunch of useless greens and blues, especially underleveled gear. Just give me silver and copper at that point. And the stupid chests around maps should actually have a chance for good drops, not a blue pair of gloves and 3 empyreal fragments.

Those drops are worth silver and copper at that point, sell them on the TP or salvage them and sell the mats. They can’t just keep adding gold to the game.

Why not just handing out material bags or plain copper and silver? You have to spend on salvage kits, you won’t use those blues or greens, selling them as they are is much less proffitable than disarming them for materials and selling those anyways…

Here’s a wild idea — just go into WvW and try it out. You can still use the skills, and there’s random mobs that hang around that you can hit. Have none of you actually played WvW and just assumed?

Yes, many of us have tried WvW and have spent enough time in there to know what’s what. That doesn’t mean that is how we spend 95% of our hours in-game. How fun would it be for us who do NOT like it to go in and try the new builds only be dead in 20 seconds? Try the training dummies? Yeah, that is loads of fun. A good way to spend the weekend, right?

And, how fair would that be to the new specs themselves. We seldom participate in this form of play so how would we judge the fun factor or viability for each of them?

All we are asking is why the spec beta is not going to be available for the other large portion of the population. I remember trying the Revenant out in Frostgorge and other areas of Tyria. If that isn’t possible, why not just let us use the demo area to try them out?

After my weekend of trying to play as much as I could while not rapter riding, I was really looking forward to trying the specializations.

From an unbiased perspective, since the great majority of players in this game are pve based primary players, this makes the above point very fair and relevant.

Sure, but let me reiterate. There’s PvE mobs in WvW. There’s random monsters in some areas that you can fight and try out your skills. You claim to know WvW, so I would assume you’d know that. You don’t need to fight other players in there to try the skills, so I’m really not sure why you think that’s what I said.

I don’t even play WvW (except for when I was working on my legendary) or PvP, but I’m not crying about having to go in there to try them. Get over it or just wait for the expansion to be available.

Yeah, because the thought of going into WvW just to be mauled by other players and trolls as a PvE player is sooo fun and fair… Come on, no WvWer with a sane mind will let anyone go and farm mobs.

As of now making any HoT stat related gear is stupidly expensive, and some of us would really like to experiment with them. It is quite annoying that stuff like Soldier, Valkyrie or Berserker are steadily and easily avaiable through all the game, whereas to get a Single piece of Viper you either have to finish the whole main quest or pay 400+ Gold to level up crafting to 500 and THEN invest even more resources into making exotics…

Hmmm let’s see.

Mastery Point Grind via repeating Meta events and participating in boring minigames repeated times? Check. Maps with currencies related to meta events and resource farming in order to get skins? Check. Grinding said maps in order to progress the story? Check.

Can you stop pretending there was more to HoT content than grinding? And don’t come with the “Hurr Durr it’s MMO it must has grinden to b alyve!11!!!”… What this game needed was exciting content, a healthy flow of it, not locking players into farming metas.

Aldath.1275

This may be new information, but you can actually play however you want. Playing a certain way because that’s what the ~~~meta~~~ is and all the Cool Players tell you to is dumb.

Yeah… no.

Actually since I started playing, it’s evident that even for open world, some builds are infinitely better than others, there’s no really a “Play how you want” regarding builds unless you wanna be stomped. For example, try using a Hammer Only or Power Mace build with Revenant, using full zerker. Taking a Veteran mob solo on Maguuma with said builds can be downright impossible or incredibly hard, whereas using S/A or Staff makes the job easy. Same with Mesmer, there’s no current way t build a DPS Mesmer as no weapon avaiable to the class presents sustained damage, only Burst.

Same way you can’t expect to kill anything with the speed of a Viper Build on Carrion/Rabid or other condition alternatives. There are many, many unused stat combinations, and the Mob HP and Attack scaling are off the charts, meaning that hybrid defensive-attack builds STILL have a hard time killing them, as opposed to a pure Power build that doesn’t even needs that much survibability because the enemies will die in 1/3 or even 1/4 the time it takes for a “tank” to heal.

The stat system or in any case mobs need to be completely reworked, the game is right now an unbalanced mess.

I agree HoT is a kitten, but the living story maps are better; the mobs will still pack a punch but they’re less annoying.

To traverse HoT maps you need to learn your class. Core GW2 makes it wrong by letting you cut your way through everything ignoring all mechanics.

First time I entered HoT was with a Daredevil, I was getting my butt handed to me by pocket raptors, snipers and rolling devils, and even rage quitted, ignoring HoT for half a year. Once you learn what your skills do on the enemies, time them, and knowing which battles to pick, it gets easier. I’ve finished the story and explored the maps with 4 characters (warrior, revenant, thief, necro) and it’s not that bad.

I still think Anet dropped the ball with the expansion…

Ember Bay has the worst JP of the game, followed only by Troll’s Revenge and the Silverwastes one.

Makes me even wonder if it was intentionally designed that way or the devs just found funny shapes and platforms, added a chest in the end, and called it a day. I highly even doubt this was playtested; there are at least 4 areas where you struggle with the ground to register your jump and at least one is quite a middle finger for norns.

This was more like glitching the map and less like a puzzle. A puzzle gives you clues, this one has you randomly guessing where to go.

One of the most maddening tasks is trying to please everyone. It can’t be done. But we try. Anet is trying to. All the moving parts in this game, all the different facets wanting their attention. They are dealing with a living, breathing world. Most mmo’s are sandboxes, or theme parks. Anet broke that mold. They dumped the trinity, they added underwater battles, jumping puzzles, gliding. We have more means of transportation then any game I have played. We can even send gifts to eachother through the BLTC. Remember the attack on LA? I have played mmo’s since 2003 and I have never seen a braver step then destroying a city, and rebuilding it. That battle felt so real, the feels after seeing smoldering ruins.

My point is this, we may not be happy with every single step, or change, or update. But we can have a little faith and let things unfold. We have a new update coming, a season finale. Then an expansion. Fighting Dragons is fun, but we have the possibility of being caught in a battle of the gods. “My light was dim, they’ll notice me now!” Or words to that effect. I don’t know about you, but being thrown into a war of that magnitude… BRING IT ON!! We faced one god in gw1, now imagine all 6. That would be amazing and give them stories to unfold, imagine the divide in the citizens religous beliefs. Look at Balth revealing himself, Kas fell to her knees, Jory drew her sword. Even they chose opposite sides of that fight. That is how I hope the expansion goes. We’ll see.

“Lf chronotank, heal druid, DPS”.

Yeah no Trinity at all right?

Anet dropped the ball with the expansion in every way. Period.

The probelm with loot in the game

Aldath.1275

There are many things I dislike about GW2 when compared to other MMOs I enjoy (TSWL, BDO…) … But inventory and loot is NOT one of them.

If you’ve played any other MMO like TERA or one of those I mentioned above, you’ll see looting is a nightmare. You get something “good” only to find out it’s trash, but you can’t salvage it yet because it might be useful later on when you try to use it for one of the hundreds of aviable confusing resource management micro systems that are required in order to get into the endgame.

You get full stacks of things you can’t even bank but you NEED to keep…

In GW2 loot might not be “exciting”, but heck at least I know easily what is trash and what isn’t and I can make piles of gold with both. Plus, even bags can drop precursors and/or ascended so even if extremely rare, there’s always the chance… or even exotic weapon/armor skins, which is good.

I don’t see anything exciting on getting generic random stat combination number 47 from my 2 hours of mob farming for a specific piece of gear that will have to be improved anyways. GW2 does nothing wrong in looting aspect…

I don’t know why GW2 gets so much white knighting. Of course the game doesn’t sucks, but right now it suffers from bad management, staleness and overall lack of polish…

We get one patch every 2-3 months, and most of times it’s more of a miss than a hit (Might Phantasms anyone?). It is sad that even a backwater game like Secret World Legends managed to do more in just 2 weeks than what the devs have done with GW2 since HoT launch… And I’m not speaking in terms of content, but in keeping in touch qith the comunity and showing they care about what they think.

The game would be in a much better state or people would be happier if Anet was more honest and straight with what goes on with development, or actually putting to use the Colaborative Development Initiative that’s been dead for a long time…

that’s completely useless comment for that situation that happened to me, I was only looking for a guild to start raiding and it happened that I was invited and being told they will tell me all the mechanics. Then they did what they did.
As a matter of fact, I even did watch the encounter for that boss. Nothing I did was wrong, except the fact it could have been mechanically better…but it’s a matter of muscle memory.

And even here I am seeing comments from people who are trying to put the blame on me by saying toughness isn’t 1000. And that guardians shouldn’t be played even if he has complete meta build.

That being said, should I really go level up completely new class, grind HoT to get Elite, to be able to kill bosses few seconds faster? And when a new patch comes and another class becomes top at DPS I should do the same thing again?
I didn’t think we are setting the new speed records in raids.

Is Warrior viable? Or Thief? Cuz I am not gonna play spellcasters ever, I only like melee.
Should I maybe also buy a new mouse and a keyboard for more precise movements to get 0,2% more DPS?

To be honest your attitude is pretty terrible as well.

Sadly this is the way things are in content where that little percentage of damage matters.

Also, no one was blaming for because you said your toughness was 1,000; the way you are reacting to comments actually made me wonder if you were kicked by reasons other than playing a Guardian…

1) Tangled Depths. I still can’t believe some people even dares defend this abomination of a map. Want to see good non flat map designs? Check out Dark Souls or post Majora’s Mask Zelda, don’t even try to put this as an example… Hell to navigate and learn, full of chak swarms and veteran mobs every two steps… It’s not a challenging map, it’s unfair, you are fighting the design of this place. It’s like that horrible JP, Skip up the Volcano.

2) Dragon’s Stand. I still don’t understand how most people seem to completely ignore the problem with this map: it’s entirely based on group meta events, and sooner then later (new expansion coming), people will stop playing it. It’s extremely stupid to design maps so they can only be completed in a group, you have to be realistic and plan ahead when designing those things. I feel bad for future players who try to complete this thing…

3) Harathi Hinterlands. Depressing map, I don’t get how centaurs, who supposedly venerate the spirits of the Earth, manage to make everything so barren. Traveling through a map and seeing centaurs everywhere gets boring. The hearts are all around the place, and the Skritt heart is horribly designed, makes you run back and forth waiting for tunnels to collapse as the harpies only spawn once every ten thousand years.

4) Plains of Ashford. Besides having an awful color palette, 18 hearts for a starting area is Overkill. Navigation is annoying, with some waypoints close and others placed God knows where, plus having a PoI entirely dependant on events, which again is pretty bad considering this is a starting area.

5) Frostgorge Sound. I was gonna call Lornar’s Pass, but the combination of endless snow, Dredge, copy paste Kodan bases and the sheer amount of water terrain make this one way, way worse than Lornar’s Pass… At least I could ignore the stupid Dredge Suit there, Frostgorge forces me to pick it to do an extremely annoying heart…

Tybalt
Trahearne (I played as a Sylvari, that’s why…)
Taimi
Canach
Rytlock

In fact they could kill all of Dragon’s Watch except Taimi, Canach and Rytlock and I wouldn’t care.

Also, some characters becoming completely useless and bipolar.

Marjory and Kasmeer don’t seem to share a bond beyond the kiss, and Marjory is just annoying to the point of making Canach look like the soul of the party.

Kasmeer is just there for fanservice.

Taimi is cute but I feel she just doesn’t cares about anything until it’s too late and she is just used as a pedal to get last minute solutions.

Canach… Why is he even in the group?

They are wasting Rox’s character, and Brahm is now an kitten

To be honest they could kill everyone except Taimi and nothing would ever change, as she’s just the Mary Sue that helps us find how to do things while our character becomes less and less important.

Oh no! Characters with real flaws! Or do you prefer characters that are perfect in every way? In which case, what difference would there be left between characters?

Real flaws? Nothing listed there is a real flaw, it’s just a product of bad writting. This looks like “The Room”, that weird movie where all characters were supposed to be important and have a personal story, but end up getting in the way and the writter in the end forgets about why those characters were there and become stupidly awkward.

In terms of Personal DPS, Utility and Survivability, how would you compare the Open World Ranger with an Open World zerker Reaper? (it’s currently my main)

hi I think easiest dps profession to play for raids currently is condi ranger

http://qtfy.eu/build/ranger

scroll down to condi ranger and check out.

Simple to play, but expensive to gear up. Anything Viper’s require heavy ammount of grinding for HoT story completion, map currencies AND gold… You can’t simply go to marketplace and buy something. Even crafting Viper gear is very expensive, plus leveling crafting if he hasn’t already.

Power Daredevil isn’t that bad and the rotation isn’t that hard.

I met my wife on a pug Nightmare Court Dungeon run.
Yesterday at Ember Bay a random Mesmer helped me climb to the end of the JP, even coming back for me, without even asking him to do so.
I can go to Lion’s Arch and start a random lore discussion or ask people for class suggestions.

Yes, sometimes you find the usual kitten or toxic snowflake (specially inside Raids), but most of times, MOST of times, the community has been the best i’ve ever found on any MMO.

Yesterday I created a LFG for Fractals, kittened non meta builds only was the title, lots of fun.

I am currently leveling a ranger, and I don’t know hoe he’ll fare once he gets to Maguuma, as I initially struggled very hard when I took my Thief and Revenant there (Stil lstruggle as Rev, thief has it easy after you get full DD spec).

I am planning on making him a Healer for Raids and Fracs, as Viper’s is stupidly expensive and hard to get. Which build (Specs, Stats and Weapons) should I use?

We know that sales are down, but we also know that when games are older sales DO go down.

Launch quarter sales were also poor, which NCSoft/ArenaNet said themselves were disappointing. The population was estimated to be around 3 million at the time, up from 1 million the previous year, but they only sold around 300k boxes; 500k being generous. Since it’s all estimated however, the population could simply be much lower and down ~50% since their last official reveal years ago, so we won’t know for sure until the next expansion’s sales. Considering the leaks however – them caving and introducing one of the biggest sale items in MMOs – they’ll likely be trying hard to appeal to the masses this time.

its trying to be a niche game now

ArenaNet has always been a niche however, as they’re for the gamers rather than the casual majority as seen in most MMOs. The problem is, they heavily nerfed the game during the original 2012 beta due to players face tanking enemies and likely in fear of early losses. If they would have never done that, the difficulty of the core game would have been similar to HoT, where enemies could kill you within seconds right at the start in Queensdale. Going in this direction is obviously bad for business, but if they do plan on continuing, they need to revert the core game instead of misleading players.

Which is why I think the Core Tyria mobs need a overhaul to make them work like the LS3 ones. LS3 mob design is just brilliant; they hit hard like the HoT mobs, but they have dodgeable AOEs, tells, and mechanics that make the fights dynamic.

I agree progression, as it is, is simply horrible. You start on Happyville, killing everything by spamming 1. You can have your whole utility slots empty and breeze through the game. They let you know combo fields and break bars are a thing but they are NEVER explained, they show you 4 phrases that let you know they exist but not how to use them.

Then you get thrown into Hellton, the Heart of Maguuma, where that berserker gear falls behind in terms of letting you stay alive, where every 4 steps you see groups of huge veteran mobs with break bars, attacks that need to be properly dodged/locked, confusing tells, and stunlocks (being charged by mordrem from 3 directions at once), AND some mobs even requiring you to grind those pesky, unnecesary masteries to even have a fair chance (Stealth Detection and Acid resistance come to mind).

Then we get LS3 maps whsoe mobs combine the best of both worlds. They are challeinging, have unique mechanics, but they are not frustratinly stupid to fight and teach the player to pay attention and use abilities.

I lose only a sliver of health fighting anything my own level. It takes at least 3 enemies of 3-4 levels above me to beat me. I am a Guardian which makes me very tanky however. I still enjoy the game however. I hear The expansion is harder so I am looking forward to that.

The game was designed for a casual audience. The core game is quite easy, but the endgame content isn’t and it can be strictly meta.

One thing, you’re a guardian, you have one of the lowest HP pools of the game, you’re not a tank per-se. Your survivability comes from passive blocks and the blinds you can cause, but later on you’ll see you’re one of the squishiest classes of the game. In Maguuma you’ll find yourself stunlocked by enemies or mauled to death by pocket raptors, so use the open world to learn when to activate your blocks, blinds and AOEs.

I got a Zojja’s axe from a PvP loot box yesterday and with the sigils poster above recommends, it melts stuff down.

Still got faster kill times with Caladbolg Solana (dagger) and Dark Harvest (Greatsword), but axe feels fun now.

Using Scholar Runes btw.

Keep this in mind tho: Contrary to what it would seem, Warrior is a support class and Guardian is the heavy hitter. Unless you plan to use condition damage, warrior damage even with greatsword is actually quite lame, and sword is pathetic for pure damage as all its damage comes from stacking bleeding. Go ahead and stick with Fantasy tropes for open world pve, but expect to have it rough on endgame content.

Confusion over new Condi hate

Plus he gearing aspect.

The ONLY viable Condition Stat combination is Viper. The ONLY one. With Zerk it was the same, but since Viper sets are HoT’s, that means you can’t just find them anywhere, buy them off the TP or Karma: You must craft them (and they are highly expensive), find them as ascended gear (and don’t go saying converting is cheap, for players who didn’t level crafting before it’s gonna be one hell of a ride anyways) OR make incredibly weird stuff like finishing HoT story on 3 characters, then farming map achievements for the rest…

So, it’s not only better than zerk, it’s also way more inaccessible to the general population.

Playing what is fun vs what is good

I have to say GW2 has put me on a spot. I joined some months before HoT, and I heard stories about how rangers and necros in the past were considered unplayable yet with time people became moe open to the idea of bringing them to dungeons and fractals.

I bought HoT excited about the new options of the game, only to find out that things were pretty much worsened: On a “role-less” game, people still imposed two roles that seem to be much needed for endgame content: DPS and Healer/Buffer.

At least 5 of the aviable classes are often regarded as trash tier, and now the meta shifted heavily into Condition gear, which only works on ONE specific armor set (which btw is only aviable in form of ascended gear or niche exotic) and I happened to fall in love with the wrong class… Reaper.

I love playing Power Build Reaper; I find the rotations and play style and animations incredibly satisfying; I’ve also leveled a Ranger, a Thief and a Revenant into their full Elites, but I don ’t enjoy them as much as I ejoy power reaper… However it makes me feel bad that the playstile I love has 0 spots on endgame content, quite opposed to what GW2 promised when I got into the game.

Now I’m on this constant dilemma of playing stuff I don’t enjoy as much in order to play content I’m interested into, and I bet many other players are on this exact spot.

How do you do with this and, you think some day Anet will adress this?

I pray HoT gets the Orr threatment in the end and they make most of the content soloable and they end up untying map advancement from events, like those pesky vine walls on Auric Basin…

HoT maps WILL die sooner than later, and they can’t just leave them as a remainder of a mediocre expansion.
