Solved
Downloaded the base installer and installed it to another folder and let it ‘start’ downloading, cancelled the download.
Copied the newly made exe from the new folder to the old one.
Only 8k files to D/L instead of 200k!

So uh, i updated my game, and my exe symbol went ‘blank’, and i get a popup saying that gw2.exe isnt a valid win32 operation.
And its 0 bytes big.

While im sure this is frustrating, Eles are probably one of the weaker classes at the moment, and there isnt heaps of them, and alot less are using that trait too.

I dont plan on getting a twinkly shoe that is gunna get me that frustrated and take up that much of my time.
Besides, there are some exotic skins which no-one has or knows about, and some which there are fewer of on the TP AND cost 1/20 of the price.
If your heads are going to explode, consider not doing it at all.

The game isnt solely based around any one type of play.
Bunker builds will probably get nerfed, since Jon has mentioned he is aware of them.
Should be an update coming in the next week or so (they seem to come out once a week) and we might see some changes then.
Because WvW isnt really PvP. its PvWalls.
And yeah, the thief is probably the least versatile profession.
Eles arent bad, but Guardians are probably the best atm.

Tank = (generally staff) water+arcane. 0 dps. Still not as good as guardians or engis.
AoE = (staff) Fire arcane. 0 survivability. Debatably not as good as Engis or same warrior specs.

That is a great tanky build, but its DPS is actually quite low. I was using something very similar about a week and a half after release.
Clerics+Dwaynas+water/life+ 20 earth/20water/30 arcana is not a dps build. its not even close, even with CE on dodge.
It can outlast an enemy, that is for kitten sure. (and thats why you need skill) But dont be confusing it for a DPS build, since A -675 power before you try and stack might (which is easy btw with that build :p). I run with almost twice that, and can still hold a solid 15-20 might stacks if i time myself right.
B – 0 crit dmg/0precison. Yes its not a crit build, thats fine. But if you want to have any semblance of ‘DPS’, crit dmg is awesome.
C – 14,000 health and ~800 armor. Decent armor value. Awful health value. Guardian tanks have more of both, and not by a small margin.
Now im not downplaying that built at all. its great, but its not what you claim, and seeing some guy 4v1 in wvw means next to nothing. firstly, its wvw, meaning automatically its imbalanced. Secondly, while they are 80 they are without a doubt masterwork or at best semi-rare geared. This actually means they’ll probably have LOWER stats than people who get buffed up and are sub 80. Now thats just my assumption from their terrible damage. Moreover, they played terribly, thats a given.
Have you seen this build 4v1 in spvp? no.
Ill close by saying i dont think we’re that UP. We have some bugged skills and some bad traits, but overall we’re actually pretty okay.
But lets not pretend that we’re actually top of the dog pile when we arent.

Masternerbz (oxymoron? lol), i’ve seen alot of your posts like this one which say pretty much the same thing, and again, i disagree.
We have some bugged skills, some crappy traits, but overall we’re pretty good. Our one let down 1v1 is we cant swap out weapons (which would be imba). If you’re in staff, just expect to lose. If you’re in D/D, dont go to a keep siege.
I have 126 hours over the betas, and almost 300 now on my ele and im still no where near as good as i’d like to be with her. I feel like i can improve plenty after every fight.
My warrior is boring because mistaks dont matter.
Then again, i only played Diablo on Hardcore. Im masochistic. hehe

Jump on the little bit of terrain to the left of the door, and make your way ontop of it.
You’ll be able to interact with it and mobs will spawn. Just dont jump down the other side.
Ultimate counter to 100 blades and any other stun and burst attack:
Tempest Defense.
Grandmaster Air trait. It puts up shocking aura automatically when you get cc’d. So funny to see how hard it coutners those kinds of builds. Really messes up their mojo. It actually works even better if they try and catch you off-guard. They won’t expect an auto-counter.
Also note, it counts as an aura in every way. I highly suggest Zephyr’s Boon with this trait. So, next time a warrior tries to CC+100B you, he gets stunned, and you have 10 seconds of fury and swiftness to make him really regret that he ever tried.
Very very underappreciated trait.
Shocking Aura is better.
Lower CD, and you dont need to heavily invest in Air (and can be cast while stunned)
I use this is WvW all the time.
Pre-cast it in air before a buddy goes down = one happy buddy.
It was never ment to rez dead people, so really, its a bug fix (that is kinda game breaking if you think about it)

While i appreciate what you’re saying, and i dont disagree, this thread isnt actually very constructive.
Lets focus on what we can do specifically to improve the ele rather than just whining about it.
Petitions are against the forum rules just FYI.
Im sure ANet is very aware of the state of the ele, and things are in the works.
Lets try to be more constructive than “fix plox”.
At least eles got nerfed.
Whirlpool did need to be nerfed.
That said, anyone EVER going to use GoR in earth? bahaha. Thats really going to happen, 3 allies that are downed next to each other and not dead (or going to die before i get the cast off)

I’ve played the ele exclusively since BWE #1, and whirlpool as been OP since we could use it.
4k+ damage per tick? I could solo 4 people and 3 sharks at the ruins. It was stupid.
That said, aside from water 2, 4 and 5 (which will probably get nerfed btw) our underwater skills are terrible.
Dont worry, we’ll get buffs in due time.
Ele nerf incoming. Finally, hopefully all the FOTM rollers and ele bots go somewhere else.

I laughed when people said D/D has the worse AoE.
It actually has the best, since its far more instant and deals more damage (total).
Lets look;
Drakes Breath – decent damage + burning AoE… amazing.
Burning Speed – AoE blast + short wall of Fire – amazing
Ring of Fire – AoE blast + wall of burning – amazing
Fire Grab – Small cone of high damage vs burning (see Drakes breath) – amazing.
What does S/ bring? long animations for slightly less damage.
Yes the ele needs a bit, but just a few bug fixes and a few traits re-worked and we’ll be fine.
Been asking for this since BW#2 so Im sure they are aware of it and working on it, but no doubt its a complex thing to fix and there are probably more important things on their list.
Just hang tight.

Lightning surge needed fixed – heck, I play an Ele and could see how this was abusable to Hell and back.
I don’t get why people complain about it’s usefulness, however. Sure the cast time takes a while but it’s damage isn’t bad at all. Even in a 3/4 defensive spec, I still manage to hit for over 1k on every other player with spikes far greater than that. The fact that it’s a small AoE makes it even better.
There is a test somewhere on this forum and using staff #2 in Air actually decreases your damage by quite a bit (from just using #1)

Im not trying to dampen the mood or disagree with any of the point you guys have made, but your elites are pretty game changing to say the least.
Eles have got much worse elites. A terribad-tornado that more often than not end up with you focus fired and dead, an uncontrollable, weak long CD minion or a sword that locks out 99% of your utility for below average damage.
I get that its frustrating but its just part of any good war.
No doubt its frustrating for those night cappers to come in and all of their work was erased.
The system doesnt need to change because of a human element.
We need sleep. They dont shut the trading post down, or dungeons or whatever.
People are getting ahead of you in those while you’re asleep too.
The great part that people seem to overlook is that there isnt actually any losers.
Sure you came third, but you still got points towards the bonuses. People still got karma, exp and gold, and a few badges, even if they lost the objective they were defending.
I mean if things STAYED the same overnight then nothing would be interesting and new in the morning!
Anyway, i do hope we get matched up again, there are great crews on all sides.

But some more rewards is never a bad thing.
I can outrun mobility thieves with my ele.
Air spec with D/D (Ride the Lightning!!) and perma swiftness.
Thieves are more slippery though. Stealth = speed + snaekyness

@OP, there is a patch tomorrow. Could be a few balance things there?
The purpose of pvp is to fight other players for fun, skins are a reward and have no effect on pve or pvp at all. You’re arguing that it shouldn’t be allowed because pve players will have to do twice as much work when pvp players would have to do twice as much work to get pve gear, that seems like a pretty kittening even trade to me.
In GW1 pvp players could unlock all pve skins, and if you had collectors edition or any bonus items you could also unlock several pvp-only weapon skins on pve characters. It’s been done before, there is no reason to not allow it other than QQing elitism that some pve kid is wearing YOUR armor set or vice versa.
K, so lets say its implemented tomorrow.

So really the CD number should say “However long your elemental lives up to 60 seconds + 96/120”

Moreover, our weapons are all very ‘styled’. You’ll NEVER EVER EVER see a D/D ele at a keep siege, because if you went into combat with D/D you’re screwed. You wont be able to do a kitten thing.
I like to travel with D/D and hit staff for sieges, and having to press H and figure out which staff if the one i want (especially with 8 18 slot bags), can be a total nightmare.
Its totally convenience sure, but it doesnt actually affect combat.

I have reported it to them like 2 weeks ago, and Ill say that i have done this a couple of times myself, but tis not really a big deal. it doesnt hit very hard, and doesnt really do much to your team, since it has a 10 sec CD and you go out of combat and heal before that time (unless they are taking down siege, which sucks)
Moreove, doing it lots means people get kitten off and make more posts meaning it gets fixed quicker. :p
I wouldnt class myself as an exploiter, and it certainly isnt fair, so i cant see what you’re saying…. but i dont think its really a bannable offence. All i do is attack with a skill haha.
Anyway, more info : Its the staff Air #2 skill which is just bugged at the moment and has unlimited range and ignores LoS.
No doubt it’ll be fixed tomorrow, and all will be well with the world.

Water is crazy strong underwater.
The wall explodes for like 2k, the ball explodes for like 1.5k, and like you say, the charge can oneshot people (or objects) if they are against the floor/wall
Also – Staff Air #1 should be castable while charging #2

Had some great fights, and neat to see some of the familiar guild names [zzzz] etc, popping up.
Had some epics today in SF borderlands. Didnt hold a thing in it, and we (Vigilance [VIG]) showed up and took Bluevale. Getter trebbed by SF and DH coming over the hill (how did you get up there?!), managed to hold off quite a few pushes with the 9 of us, and 2-11 or so other people that showed up.
Started the circuit of Supply camps, then ALMOST took Dreadfall with 9 of us. got the lord down, but the zerg came in at the last minute.
Regrouped, pulled in about 10 or so other folk, walked through the doors (which hadn’t been repaired?!) and kill the lord.
Honestly, lets just drop the night capping arguement. We know DH do it, and if we cant field enough, or get organised enough to stop it/counter it, thats not their fault.
If somehow it was the other way round and SF or SoR has number supremacy during the day, and the others had no-one, everyone would be singing the same tune.
Great match ups, and do a /wave to any VIG elementalists you see.
