Play WvW instead of sPvP. In WvW, single player, no matter how powerful they are, is nothing. We only need just 5 players to grind your hated bunker guardians brick wall into powder. To finish off, we will do a /spit and kitten on that powder and /wave before we head off to grind the next brick wall.

I bet you these egoistic op player wouldn’t dare to enter WvW. They are the one who complain that WvW is unbalanced and nothing but zerg and no one want to pvp 1-on-1 because they constantly got their kitten handed back to them.

… No need to come and cry on the forums about the event, just accept that there are people who are enjoying the event and get on with something else in game.

Hey, there are people in real life roaming the street aimlessly with a fully loaded gun in their back pocket. You may be saying that these people enjoys looking for some legit kills out there and we should get on with our lives since it is none of our business.

It is none of our business till the day we become the receiving end of that bullet. Whether things can and will be done to make the world better is one matter. To keep silent and to turn a blind eye to everything simply because it does not concern us NOW is implicit endorsement of a wrong which can and probably will affect us all in the future.

when you DC tooo much you should fix it with your provider not arenanet with you

Your viewpoint is too naive imo. Each death and repair bill cost 1 silver 64 bronze. A single DC server wide will probably affect let say 10,000 players active in combat (assuming each server supporting 25,000 players of which only 10,000 players are in active combat) and chalk up a total repair bill of 164 golds. Taken across a server farm of 30 servers, a data center wide DC will reap Anet a total of 4920 golds. Not a bad commercial initiatives I must say.

Furthermore, if you have played WoW, you would have known that there is an exploit out there that can mass DC player in battleground. I hope that exploit don’t work in GW2, but I am not too sure.

If you think DC is not an issue with Anet or anybody other than your internet service provider, think twice. Don’t be too kitten sure.

You don’t seem to understand, it has already been stated that this change only affects players in World vs World that disconnect while in combat. It doesn’t effect people randomly walking across Gendarran Fields or whatever.

I hate to use this word on people, but alas I had to use it on you again. You are naive to think that it only affect WvW. It may be true for NOW.

If there are a lot of people out there who alt-f4 in PVE and in the process suffers Anet repair bill revenue, you think Anet will not extend this implementation to cover every aspects of the game?

Remember that Anet officially classify WvW as PVE. So now we have double standard in the implementation of PVE zone disconnect and repair bill. Do WvW player deserve less than other GW2 PVE player?

Does ANet get crash report?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Assassinin.4963

Assassinin.4963

I believe they do. The question is whether they are working to better it or to increase the crash frequency.

The latest implementation of slapping player with repair bill when they disconnect while in combat (while having the good intention to fix the alt-f4 issue) does offer a potential incentive for Anet to implement scheduled crashes for their server. (I only state that it is a potential incentive and I did not state that Anet will act on this incentive)

With each repair bill at 1 silver 64 bronze per player. A scheduled game-wide crash and disconnect willl reap Anet handsome amount of gold each time.

Just a business idea for Anet: if you don’t want to have a bad name for scheduling crashes, you can outsource it out to the hacker who can implement exploits to crash player in combat. You earn your gold while hacker get the bad name. Then you come in later to patch the system and claim credit for your heroine act. Opsss … did I just leaked out somebody’s great business plan?

It does address the alt-f4 issues thankfully, but I stop at calling it a great update. It will create further problem down the road.

Planetside 2 is a lackluster freemium game.

Told you so.

You can’t fault a freemium game because no one ‘forced’ or ‘tricked’ you into paying anything for it if you don’t want to, saved for your play time, unlike some supposedly f2p game that charged you $60 upfront with the pretence of delivering what they claimed to but only showed their true color in contrary just 3 months into the game.

I love thief daggerstorm for alternate reason. I don’t use it on my thief char but I LOVE seeing enemy thief using it.

Thief are notoriously slimy, being able to escape death by keeping a respectable distance and going stealth. They are almost impossible to pin down and trapped.

HOWEVER, when thief utilized their daggerstorm, it gave them a false sense of invincibility and they start charging right into the middle of a zerg group. Everytime I see this, I lol.

I have seen more thiefs get killed after their daggerstorm expired than in other thiefs fight. I LOVE daggerstorm, its a natural thief killer.

Have you tried Skyrim?

Jokes aside, you’re asking for solo content in a massively multiplayer online game.

I have seen a trillion trillion trillion time when player brought up about wanting to do solo stuff in MMO and some dude will come in and say what are you doing in a MMO game then since you prefer solo play.

To prefer a solo playstyle is NOT EQUAL to not wanting to playing with other players (or in group). There is a DISTINCT difference. I gave you my experience with WoW.

Before WoW introduced automated LFG (Looking for Group) features, the only way to do dungeon is to get a regular playgroup most likely having to join a guild group. Before you even enter the dungeon entrance, you have to play politics to position yourself as the ‘preferred’ player in your guild group. Many players played healer and tank not because they enjoy tanking or healing but because it is what give them the ‘preferred’ status in their guild group.

With the intro of automated LFG, I can be myself and at the same time able to get a group to play dungeon ANYTIME I wish without having to join guild and to engage in human politics.

So, feature like automated LFG has made WoW MMO solo-friendly. This is not to mean solo content to the exclusion of other players. Mark that difference.

There are many many MMOs out there. People play multiple MMOs at the SAME time. They will spend more time in good MMO and lesser time or not at all in lousy ones.

The initial GW2 hype has died down somewhat after player did their own “benchmarking” of GW2 against their other favourite MMOs. Those that have come into GW2 from a higher standard MMO, have probably gone back to their former MMO.

Subscription for future expansions is a plus

Speaking of whether subscription or f2p model is better is imho irrelevant to the development of MMO.

More core to whether the MMO can attract and keep its players is its quality of play. If it is good, players will pay for it (e.g. WoW). If it is lousy, players will still not play it even though it is f2p (e.g. SWTOR).

Planting a flag is 2 seconds. How much speed does quickness give? it doesn’t sound right.

You didn’t catch my sarcasm. This 250 ms kill is obviously nothing short of an exploit. This is not the first time I encountered this in recent days. I have mentioned about similar encounter in one of my earlier post.

This guy has bring the pvp competition to another level with this ‘capability’. One that countered the alt-f4 ‘capability’. I am now pondering on how to counter this ‘capability’ without having to use similar exploit (if I happened to chance upon it) which is against the game EULA for an eye-for-eye payback. I will not go across the red line of infringing on the game EULE. And I am definitely not going to bend over and present my kitten for enemy to plant flag into, in name of fair play and all the bull-kitten. Let those ‘law abiding’ player walk around with a tonne of flags stuck behind their kitten while chanting all hail to fair play. I will not be one of them.

A crusader for crashing his game and avoiding death, man you’re so proud of the position i don’t think there’s any saving.

You seems to have gotten it wrong. My position is this: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Thief-bug-1/first#post766032.

I was one of the earliest to report on alt-F4 player almost a month ago.

My position is also about not yielding to unfair play. While waiting for Anet to fix this, or perhap not ever fixed at all, I am not going to dwell in negative emotion washing my face in tears when player alt-f4 on me and then come to the forum and complain.

Alt-f4 player is most welcome to alt-f4 on me because I will alt-f4 doubly hard on the enemies too in return. I find it so DUMB for a player to lay there in downed state, knowing that he can escape death but choose to die to the enemy who will probably alt-F4 on him when the role reverse. This is DUMB. DUMB. DUMB. DUMB.

Like I said, if a player want to just play within ‘normal expectation’, that other players should behave according to what they THINK they should behave, and cry when they don’t, then they are not ready for pvp. Pve is a better fit for them. Computer code are very ‘obedient’.

I was one of the earliest to report on the alt-f4 player in the bug forum. I mentioned that if this is not fixed soon, I will join the bandwagon. And I have been alt-f4-ing for a while since my earlier bug report.

Today, I finally met a match who countered my attempt at alt-f4. How did he do it? He do it via super duper high dps. My average timing to hit the alt-f4 button is about a quarter of a second (250 ms). This player bring me from full hp to downed state to planting flag on me in less than 250 ms. My finger was on the alt button key and another finger was en-route to F4 button (about 5mm from hitting the F4 button) when the flag was finally planted. Nicely done indeed. And in this rare case, I gladly pay the repair bill. This guy has gone to great extent to achieve what many people would think unthinkable.

So, to all those who complained non-stop about player who alt-F4, learn from this guy. Find a counter to player who alt-F4 rather than complaining non-stop. Join the high dps bandwagon instead of griefing. Do something positive.

So now what? Do we alt-F4 player need to complain about player who can kill full hp player in full exotic gear in less than 250 ms (I have never seen a faster flag planting animation ever that fast that I thought it is a new patch update feature. But there is no new patch recently right)?

Not for me. I say bring it on. Come and applies your super dps on me. Do it as often as your like. I am not complaining. Let’s see who can hit the button faster next time.

If there is one …. JUST ONE … wish you had like to see implemented in WvW .What would that be?

For me, it is the removal of repair bill. It is not the case that I cannot afford to pay (now that I have 5 lvl 80 char and having 100 gold in inventory), or don’t want to pay (since I ALWAYS use waypoint to travel without fail and each waypoint cost is equivalent to one repair bill). It is just a bloody psychological irritation that you have to keep going back to the NPC to get your repair that is getting to me. I JUST WANT TO GET OUT THERE TO PLAY WVW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and not to make SO MANY trips to NPC for REPAIR. Bloody kitteny NPC repair that is.

And I am not going to spent any RL money on GW2 or pay for the next paid expansion pack until repair bill is removed from WvW. Period.

This is a nice way of implementing something to see it goes to waste because you don’t want people to abuse it. You need to change up your message quite a bit to avoid it. This was implemented to stop gold sellers.

I did somthing to the following effect and I was slapped with ‘excessive messaging’ at WvW:

Team: Prepared to port in, tower timer at 1:00
Team: Timer at 0:50
Team: Timer at 0:40
Team: Timer at 0:30

and I was blocked from chat. Repetitive? Somewhat. So should I go instead:

Team: Timer at 0:50
Team: Clock at 0:40
Team: Chronometer at 0:30
Team: Watch at 0:20
Team: Hourglass at 0:10

Is this a joke or what?

Do you really need to tell them every 10 seconds? Maybe just do a 1 minute, 30 second and 10/5 second warning?

And as LithePanther said it’s lead to a big reduction in gold selling (and guild spam) which IMO makes it well worth it, even if the system could use tweaking.

That is not the point. I can issue a time message x second whichever x is. The point is what is the criteria by which we will be slapped with this excessive chat penalty. As far as I know, there is no such official documentation telling us what is allowed and what is not allowed. This supports my impression all along that GW2 documentation is the worst of the worst in any game.

If the criteria are made clear, I as a very law abiding player, WILL religiously follow it. At his moment of time, I am still totally clueless on when I will fall foul of the rule again.

For 5-man setup, its almost like a commando outfit. You launch stealth attack and you don’t engage in any direct confrontation. You have to run when detected. And you have to run FAST.

So a good setup would involved professions who can buff swiftness boons which allows you to sprint out of enemy’s harm. Coordinate among the members so that you can chain spam swiftness boons when a previous boon expired. Thief which can offer the group stealth boon would also be a welcome addition to the setup.

Focus on profession which offer survive skill than dps/fighting skill. Always remember, you are not going to fight in direct confrontation unless it is 5 against 1.

What's happening to the price of gems?

Inflation stoke consumer spending on the assumption that if consumer feel that price will rise in the future, they will not postpone their spending. The opposite holds true for deflation.

However, artificial inflation has an ugly side effect on the economy without a corresponding increase in income. I hope that the recent inflation is free market supply and demand response to a larger group of players having seen an increase in income/gold generating ability given that more of them has hit level 80. And not manipulated by Anet to boost their profit.

While many of us complain about vertical progression when ascended gears were introduced, none of us see the similarity of vertical progression when inflation hit the trading post. If things get more and more expensive, and you have to grind/farm more gold in order to maintain your current spending power in trading post, isn’t that a form of power creep in the game? That your currrent gold saving in the vault is getting less and less valued for each passing day? (currency devaluation vis-a-vis gear devaluation for traditional power creep understanding).

I was slapped with a ‘excessive messaging’ penalty which locked me out of chat for several minutes (I don’t know how long as I did not go back to chat anymore after that).

So, it may not be the case that people don’t chat. The system does not encourage people to chat, noting the well intended design to prevent chat spamming. However, even with this design in place, I often see gold seller spamming their advertisement in chat over and over again. I don’t know how they overcome the ‘excessive messaging’ control but this has validated the fact this feature has hindered legit chat uses but has not stop what it was designed to stop.

Those not wanting to contribute to the fight won’t have any use for the blueprints, and the ones going for the 500 badges legendary gift are already in there to do the JP’s anyways.
So I don’t think it would really attract notably more PVE players to take up queue slots.

Dude, WvW is classified OFFICIALLY by Anet as PVE. Though I am as confused as yesterday on this classification, I am reminding myself everytime that WvW is PVE…. WvW is PVE … WvW is PVE.

To one of the posters who mentioned in another thread that if player comes into WvW to PVE, then something is wrong. I agree with that poster momentarily until I was reminded that WvW is PVE. So, officially it should be instead: if player comes into WvW to PvP, then something is wrong.

Something is indeed VERY wrong in WvW … everyone is pvp without giving much love to our PVE NPC on WvW ground. That is outrageous. Anet has got to be pissed off.

Server still full, overflows and queue for wvw

There’s probably more people playing GW2 right now than any other MMO, WoW included. Ever check the activity stats for WoW? It’s really really low, with a ton of dead servers.

Could just be because other games are out so people are playing those. Like AC3 and Far Cry 3, which I’m getting now.

Your cause of comfort is my exact cause for concern.

While you are relishing the sweet scent of bliss up in your tower looking at the downfall of enemy tower, I am look at the competitor massing their ram machine at the gate below in preparation of assault shall their own tower falls.

Argueably the strongest competitor in WoW has seen a continual demise of their game which you have pointed out. Indication that their first outer gate has been breached came when they announced f2p for their game up to level 20. At the same time, they are preparing and sweetening their ground for f2p item-mall business model through the gradual introduction of paid mounts (not unlike Rune of Magic), paid items etc. They still have supplies to defend their inner gate but I see their supplies running out. In recent days, they announced a 50% discount on their panda expansion pack. When finally the day when their inner gate is breached and they go full-blown f2p, the competition is going to cannibalize GW2 badly, imho.

They may lost their old tower, but they may capture many of GW2 existing towers in return.

i strongly noticed WvW decreasing, the first time i ever was in there was like WOOOOOW such a huge zerg of us :o omg how cool

now where the heck is everyone

Sony Online just launched their latest f2p MMO which supports thousands of players engaged in WvWvW like battlefield. Their WvWvW is the main dish of their game while GW2 WvWvW is just a side dish here. Some of our former WvWvW players are there in the new game currently.

whats that mmo?

I don’t want to be selling other games as I am still a staunch supporter of GW2. I am just highlighting the competition. Turning a blind eye to the competitors does not mean it will go away. I highlight it to spur GW2 to do better than them, not to sell their game to the GW2 community.

Where is everyone getting the idea...

I am unfamiliar with Nexon to make any specific comments on their strategy post acquiring NCSoft shares. But I gathered from other posters that Nexon has a past notorious history in managing those games under them.

The general comment that I wish to make is this. It applies to Nexon and any other companies. That if you pissed off your customers just to make a quick profit thinking that you will do better later to win back your customers’ goodwill later on, you are dead wrong. Bad impression lingers for a long long time. Human minds are biased towards highlighting negative aspects of thing while silently appreciative of the positive aspects. You can do a thousand good things and people will be quietly supporting you but if you do one, just one, wrong thing, or one that is perceived wrong through leak of proper communication, people will talk about this for many years to come.

I guess this is the case for Nexon here. The perception is what Nexon WILL do instead of what they actually do. The bad after taste lingers.

If all this high dmg incidents are just a recent phenomenon, then I think there might be some exploits out there which people used to increase their dmg.

The reason I said so is because I encountered a group of warriors and guardians in WvW eternal battleground yesterday. These enemies basically 2-shot you to downed state. I tried fighting them at the same area for like 4-5 times but each time I entered the fight, I was downed in 2 shots. I go wow … no way to win them … I switched to other borderlands map.

Lo and behold, I met the same op-ness of other enemies in the borderland. Guess what? They are also warriors and guardians. Ok, I say to myself, co-incidence. Let switch to OTHER borderlands.

After I got 2-shot again in the other borderland, I said that is enough for the day. I logout amidst the huge number of corpses of my fallen comrades on the battlefield. Guess what profession of the enemies that 2-shotted us?

By the way, I am wearing exotic gears in all slots except one.

I think they should leave it. It’s hard enough to make money on the TP without making it easy for botters.

Not saying you are botting, but this does sound like an anti-botting measure.

Anti-botting measure? That is a weak excuse to cover the incompetencies of those behind the implementation of the trading post. Sorry if this sounds offensive to those dev. I am just calling a black kettle black. I did not go beyond just stating a fact.

Go look at Eve trading post and WoW auction house features, responsiveness, scale and stability. An alpha version of Eve trading post would have beaten GW2 trading post hands on on all aspects.

The “Sell” tab of trading post never works for me on first login. I have to exit the client totally and re-login in order to get it working. Most of the time it works on the second re-login. Sometimes, it doesn’t work no matter how many times I tried to re-login.

However, it SELDOM works on first login.

I am surprised that GW2 trading post faced so much issues in its implementation, right from the second GW2 launched. I have never encountered in any games where their auction house/trading post is EVER an issue.

Anyone notice a decrease in population?

i strongly noticed WvW decreasing, the first time i ever was in there was like WOOOOOW such a huge zerg of us :o omg how cool

now where the heck is everyone

Sony Online just launched their latest f2p MMO which supports thousands of players engaged in WvWvW like battlefield. Their WvWvW is the main dish of their game while GW2 WvWvW is just a side dish here. Some of our former WvWvW players are there in the new game currently.

Thanks for the explanation.

I can see how this works for Call of Duty for example. But for an MMO, that is supposed to be long-term enjoyment, this would be shooting themselves in the foot. No one would ever buy something from them again. Ever.

I honestly think Anet isnt stupid enough to choose a course like that. Which brings me to my second question: why do you think anet would choose a course like this?

Year end is near. Most companies are preparing to close their account book and everyone is trying to score high before the book is closed.

This year’s account book is also a report card to seek continual or new investor funding for next year. I can understand the ‘mad rush’ which we see recently in the launch of new content to attract more customers. While appreciative of the business pressure of retaining or attracting additional investor funding, it is still no excuse at all to roll out something that pissed off the customers, whether it is a perceived betrayal of their initial manifesto or buggy product.

Just my personal speculation of what goes behind the corporate scene.

I got my legendary, so now...

Anet should introduced more gear type beyond what is available now. Anet should implement additional gear in the form of equippable undergarments and the legendary form of undergarments for player to grind further.

Then we can have players going around in WvW suffocating downed enemies with their smelly legendary panties and bras. Yeah, what a humiliating and horrible way to die. And the enemies probably well deserved it.

Rifles + Thief = Sniper

The modus operandi of sniper is always to engage at long range. So, any sniper ability has to be at least 1500 range and above. Otherwise it cannot be termed sniper. It can be termed an assassin though.

And as noted by the other poster, the sniper shot is one shot one kill. It has to do massive damage. A sniper is effectively a walking Ballista.

If you make a walking ballista out of thief, it is going to make the profession more powerful than it already is. On the other hand, if you create a totally new profession of a sniper class, then there is merit. I would love to play a sniper class. But again we have to differentiate the positioning of the sniper class vis-a-vis the Ballista seige machine.
