I found the problem with the meta build was just taking hits from the chargers. I want to be able to survive them mostly.
I’ve been looking for a build that can run between keeping alive and being able to kill junk. Right now I have this Frontline Shout build 0/0/4/6/4 Hammer Sword/WH which is great at getting around and staying alive, but has been horrible at killing those menders. Has anyone been running about here have a better idea?
Until rangers are upvoted for being a problem over p/d thieves or even d/d elementals, then we’ll talk.
Well I was OK with altruism just because I had a set left over when trying other support builds, but hey I can stand more CM runs.
Is there a difference using HaO over Ungent or just pretty much interchangeable.
So the Engineer Guidebook mentioned this build http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vMAQRAsf3YnEqQLL2LIWsAXLGQaPyEzDTeFmF3jRpTCxC2UB-zkCBYiFRjmCAmEAk8AiABgEJZppFRjtIsIas6ZER16jYBAQAYiTciTciTsUAwMHA-w
I want to try something different and was wondering if this was notably viable in any way.
So do I want to build myself a celestial set for WvW then? Or just stick with my old pvt stuff.
Dual pistols would be something like Reisen from Touhou.
I’ve been doing Longbow in sPvp and it’s very good when I can fire down on people, but balls when I have to deal with melee in any way. It’s not a great close range 1v1 combo, but as a support I can place pressure from a good distance.
I don’t like the scaling. It’s a very abstract way of saying “get out of here, you’re not helping.” I’d rather have the hard counter from the attack on LA. It’s a clear indicator you should leave.
I share your stance though Traveller, I’d rather adventure with Destiny’s Edge or some of the heroes from the Personal Story (or shock! My guild and friends!) before I spend more time with those five again.
Me too. I still don’t understand why they brought these characters in and made them so super-important when we had prominent NPCs in need of more fleshing out already, in Destiny’s Edge and other parts of the personal story.
With Laranthir recognising it as a possible dragon, it would be painful as a commander in the Pact to see the story ignore the player character’s status as higher ranking members of Tyria’s greatest authority on fighting dragons and instead anchor us with the Biconics again.
Ugh, very good point. The Pact has totally fallen off the face of the planet in the LS, partly because of the nonsensical waffling about whether or not the LS takes place after Zhaitan or not — but to keep ignoring it now would be really bad and further feel like the personal story is actively being invalidated.
I feel like the first part of using the original characters a huge restriction because of their choice of voice actors. They went with known voice actors, which become restrictive and costly to bring back.
And I think the problem with the Personal Story continuity is just new player introductions. It was already a problem doing all the LA stuff in a destroyed LA, in which them being there during the invasion makes absolutely barely any sense. It should be happening after your PS, but if events of your PS get referenced then those who haven’t gotten there will be lost even more.
I run fractals on a Mesmer, currently at rank 45. For the most part its going to be melee, because either the bosses fight area is really small, or its relatively safe to melee. I will range both dredge bosses because that’s a constant kite, reactor boss because of the required mobility. Most bosses likes to have both options. Pets are going to be need to probably just be defensive.
Yep I’m running a similar build, except I use Nature’s Protection, which can be a real life saver (2000 armor+protection = 3000 armor). I also went 30 into Skirmishing for the passive bonuses.
I also don’t use Red Moa nor Quickening Zephyr, but that might just be laziness. I use Polar Bear (for Protect Me and AoE chill), Wolf(for AoE fear/damage/CC) and Signet of Renewal, which can also be a life saver and to prevent long duration conditions from keeping me stuck in combat mode.
As for Sigils, I use Air instead of Force. I wonder which does more damage in the long run, but I think Air does more burst damage and it’s on a 3s cooldown, so it can’t be much worse than Force. Air also scales with power now. Does anyone know the math?
Force scales, Air doesn’t. If you’re getting buffs, Force, otherwise at base they’re about the same.
I would run into many games with uneven numbers, as someone left halfway or never joined in the first place. It’s those games that are the hardest to stay around for.
Been having a hard time dealing with condition builds.
I should play my mesmer.
Was having problems with this spirit ranger last night, but could’ve also been that mesmer that would show up as well.
The game’s only been out for 1.5 years be patient.
Hah…… hah.
If I start the game with 5v3, why not scramble and get it to 4v4?
Until you can get champion bags from defending, you’re not going to see an end to the train.
And unless I can get my 10 WvW tourny achievements by defending, you’re not going to see a change.
Current best builds are still considering around Empowering Mantras. Because of the move it meant fewer traits for support moves.
I followed this fellah’s advice and it sounds reasonable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjZhKTy9b2w
Well the build was originally apparently more a wvw build, and even he builds zerker with his trait setup. I might as well switch at this rate, considering how little it really helps. Is Keeper even available in exotics? I’m already being cheap about buying silk for ascended cloth.
Note that you can always trait mantra heals in a standard phantasm build.
The issue with this mindset though, is that if stuff goes wrong in fractals, people end up dead, not just close to dead. This is particularly true in higher level fractals where so many mobs are 1-2 shots.
It’s not mantra heals though.
Its every 45 seconds I Wardern/Line thing/Leap/Swap/Leap/Storm at feet/3 seconds/Signet. Everyone nearby gets pretty much all boons and a 300hp regen.
When Ascalonian warriors rush at you for 10k and mages insta-gib you, 300hp regen isn’t going to do much.
Yea… But I already put these runes of altruism into a bunch of Magi gear and I’m too lazy to switch. It feels okay for everything else that doesn’t instantly kill you, but man I wish everything wasn’t tuned to that.

I run the Chaos Maestro build for fractals if I want to go support. 0/1/6/4/3 The point of this build is throwing out all boons every Signet of Inspiration cooldown. S/F Staff. For the most part I feel more comfortable if someone can throw out heals periodically cause stuff goes wrong easily in fractals.
So I have a set of Hoelbrek runes on some Soilder gear I got with WvW tokens, and I have a set of Sentinel/Soldier gear with Lyssa runes. I’m debating if I want my Hoelbrek runes in my sentinel gear, or just make some more and get some BL Kits for the runes. Or just go with that armor and skin it with something better.
I like the option of the new grandmaster trait for at least over bountiful interruption for non interruptible situations and for a reason to use class abilites again
I just got the one for my warrior after I died and all I fought were shades and got bronze.
I’m mostly LB until I run into fireproof enemies. LB is just better because fire field bomb and hammer burst might.
What is it you want exactly? a description of all the builds that were good then nerfed? that would take some time… if you want to know how the engineer is doing now though, that’s a different (and shorter) story.
In PvE : I’m not too sure, but I guess they’re doing okay.
In sPvP : -power engineer is still a bit weak but you can have fun with SD or grenade builds
-condi engineer is quite good and has some nice survivability (usually people use 30 0 0 30 10 or 30 10 0 20 10 builds with bombs/ toolkit/ grenades/ elixir gun)
-engineer is still vulnerable against conditions (and CC, to a lesser extent)
Well that’s a reasonable summary. My friend is an experimenter, and will like to mess with things. But he’s running of knowledge back from launch. So is there a way to check the difference between launch engi and today?
I got GW2 with two of my friends at launch. Since then I’m the only one left that has any interest in playing. I have one friend that liked the game but started Engineer and liked it’s versatility, but wasn’t too hot on some of the patch changes early on. Now he feels too behind on the changes to GW2 since he left. Can anyone give me a rundown on how the engineer has been doing this entire time?
I am short a Dusk and the T6 stuff for mine, ankitten ot quite sure if I want to just start burning my various tokens for it. I have 400g right now, 63 laurals, 23 comms, a bunch of farmed up mats. With the new patch I don’t feel too bad making it for my mesmer. The problem I have is how little things that are farmed up can go into other stuff.
I’d like Stuns to taunt in PvE so hammer builds can have control over defiant monsters.
The gear is pretty much the same across all builds, build tanky with damage jewelry. Gear isn’t going to change much post new patch. If you want to be really cheap run dungeons for that gear and make some money in the process. AC, HotW both give Soldiers gear. SE and Arah for knights. Gonna need to check whoever for Cavaliers. Laurals/fractals/guild comms for your trinkets, Get full zerker cause it’ll cross over the best.
Just accidentally smashed the Heavy Mending Chestpiece from the quest Retribution. Is this skin in the game somewhere else? Haven’t been able to find it with google so far.
So I just happen to run into the spawn location of one of the mortars against blightghast story event. I am Asuran. I am stuck under this mortar.
Eh I don’t want to have to rebuy and risk losing 4g runes to mystic kits.
Welp I spent my time in CoE farming those tokens for that zerker gear. Knights ends up from SE and Arah IIRC.
In WoW I would run heroics and clear everything. Why? Cause it was a relatively trivial thing. Get about a gold from each pack. Spend a good 20 seconds to take one out. Even if you had to sheep and it was a first run you can explain a group and follow through. Oh sure there were places you could skip, but the alternative was not a complete detour to complete.
Need curved bullets.
Why do people always complain about this stuff? I’ve never played a game where killing trash is rewarding or worth the time spent. Someone please enlighten me as to which game has rewarding loot drops from trash mobs.
The one where nearly all the cash rewards came from trash.
Why don’t these things have an indicator where they land?
Well Fractals is a place that likes support, cause stuff there tend to kill faster than dungeons.
I’m thinking 20/20 is good when the phantasm can stay up to hit repeatedly, while 25/15 is that good first hit before they get taken out.
Though the other thing is getting the extra slot for either mantra heals or condition clear on heal, which is a pretty nice thing tied to recovery mantra.
We just tried to get past the oil slime puzzle. last time I ran this the slimes were friendly? But you would always have the problem of either one side gets all the elementals and loses their slime, in which case the other side might as well kill it too and start all over. Fights should not be repeated trial and error. Lower the elemental’s health, so they’re easier to deal with. Hell, if the slimes moved a bit faster, we could make the window better.
I feel like 0/20/0/30/20 and just go all in on glamors.
For what exactly?
I don’t know. Glamors are handy for a lot of things, but it is not adding to damage.
I feel like 0/20/0/30/20 and just go all in on glamors.
Darn, I don’t have enough swords for this build. And I haven’t really carried alt weapons for a while now.
You might already realise this, but a Sword/Focus + Sword/Sword build only requires you to have two swords, not three.
Yea, but my other sword was a Toy Sword that was MF before the change. So I have this Inquest MH sword and this wooden toy sword OH.
So there is a Condition cleansing Sigil.
