I hate to say it, but I generally actively avoid paying much attention to chat. I realize asking a question in map chat is seeking feedback, but I personally prefer searching the wiki or YouTube guides to inform my ignorance on specifics over the general map population. Of course it can’t be avoided entirely and there are genuinely helpful people out there. I just prefer a solo experience until partying up is more beneficial or required.

As antisocial as I might sound, I consider myself very easy to get along with. I’m generally accepting and overly apologetic. I just have a low tolerance for elitist thinking and extracting pride from a freaking video game. Life’s too short to waste on trying to reason with kittens.

I do the key farm x5 almost every week and slowly build up scraps and tickets. Right now I’m sitting on 7 (I think?) full tickets, waiting for something new and of interest to be available. I hate the idea of spending 5 tickets on a skin I like, since that was many weeks of key runs.

Anyway, you can earn keys without spending any real money or trading gold for gems.

I know the Level 10 human PS key farm was nerfed to 1/wk. how do you do 5? One per race?

The list of available skins changes every time there’s an update to the BL chest and/or a new BL weapon skin. Every single time. This has been true since the game launched.

The list of skins available from double clicking a scrap or ticket is nearly always smaller than what’s available inside the vault; that’s been true since the inclusion of the vault.

Finally, it has always been the case and will continue to be true that the most cost effective way to get a skin is to put in a buy offer on the TP at the price you are willing to spend. The cost of acquiring x tickets|10x scraps via purchase of BL keys is always higher, regardless of what X is, unless you are very, very lucky.

tl;dr put in a custom buy offer for the skin(s) you want at the price you are willing to pay; only invest in BL keys if you like the excitement that happens just before you open.

The odd caveat to this logic is that SOMEONE has to obtain BL keys to open chests to get scraps to get a skin to put on the TP to begin with. If everyone followed this advice, there would be no skins to be had on the TP at all. Lucky for us, some people like the gamble. And yes, I’m fully aware that keys sell very well and the supply of skins will continuously abound. My point is, be thankful that others are buying the keys so you don’t have to..

One suggestion I have for OP is this: use the tickets you got for the skin you want and invest in the current skins instead. Wait a few months (at least) then sell for profit. That could get you close to the gold you need for the skin you’re after. Depending on what you think of the current set of skins (Abaddon) and the observable market for them, you might want to wait to see if the next set is better for an investment. They might also be cheaper if Anet rolls the cost back down to 1 ticket vs 2 for the current set.

[Idea] More varied dailies!

I always got the impression that dailies were a way for Anet to drive traffic to various underpopulated zones, at least for a day. I have a feeling that if they do switch things up with dailies, it’ll likely be to entice the player population to zones that don’t see much traffic day to day. However that fits with expanding daily tasks, you are free to speculate.

I think OP is referring to the part of Black Lion Trading Company HQ in Lion’s Arch that shows vendors behind locked gates. Those haven’t been open for a long time. I think it begs the question as to why they still have them there if they never unlock those gates. Long time ago, you could still buy the old, expensive skins (fused, jade dragon, etc.) from those vendors for like 10 tickets. Now the gates are permanently locked. What’s the point, Anet?

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

Aurelian Omenkind.2470

I’m a guy and tend to prefer female toons for much the same reasons as already mentioned, though when I play, I’m rarely looking at my own character’s backside and more at the action in front of her. I tend to pay more attention to her during the Fashion Wars aspect of the game, though I generally prefer the tasteful, more conservative styles over the provocative.

Ironically, my main is a male charr with whom I tend to identify more strongly, though the suspension of disbelief is broken when I have to make character choices I personally disagree with for the sake of the game’s structure or what I feel is truest to his “life.” I tend to play all my toons through the perspective of genuine role playing or at least like an interactive novel where the characters have backstory and motivations. I think I’ve mentally constructed a pre-game backstory for 6 of my 9 toons.

Zenith weapon skins can be pulled from the Achievements sub-panel in the Hero panel if you lost the skin somehow. Otherwise, unlocked zenith skins can be applied for free from the wardrobe.

I also think a toy storage for costume and Gem Store toys and gizmos has been suggested in the QoL suggestion thread pinned at the top of this subforum. I’m definitely in favor of that and/or a toy slot on the character panel too.

The thing is, I know it’s not technically new content, but it was content that was played briefly, then moved beyond. And still, new players have a gap in their story going from the personal story to LW Season 2. The story summary in the Hero panel just isn’t enough, in my opinion.

I’ve wondered this for a long while and don’t recall seeing an official response on the subject. Why can’t portions of Living World Season 1 be reformatted into custom instances like GW1’s Bonus Mission Pack? The Molten Facility was adapted into a fractal which also works (still unhappy about the lack of azurite orbs in the fractal tho). Other key battles can be instanced with old map structures just like the story mission, Setting the Stage, which uses the old original Lion’s Arch map. Parties could be formed through a large scale fractal or raid party search which could accommodate very large groups for events like the marionette fight and the battle for Lion’s Arch.

I’m sure many will say that Anet has bigger things on their plate to work on, and that’s probably true, but how long have we been asking to replay some of those old, world-changing events? Not having these instances also requires new players to merely read about the events on the wiki instead of experiencing them for themselves. What do y’all think?

I can see the logic of changing Sohothin’s and Magdaer’s appearance since they are magical, legendary swords. Does anyone like the mastery system?

Aurelian Omenkind.2470

Since I started GW2 at launch, I’ve played primarily one toon above all the others tho I have characters for each class sitting there looking pretty, waiting for attention. Every blue moon. I dive into one of them and try to clear a map. I still have over 300 unused HPs waiting for the PoF specialization.

Masteries are a nice progression system to add QoL upgrades, and the expanded movement systems are kinda fun. I agree that the use of mushrooms, nuhoch tunnels, and oakheart essences should become more widely available throughout Tyria, not to ruin things like JPs and such but to add interest and usability to the skill we invensted in.

I despise the adventures and the link of mastery points to them. I’m not a good player, I just play to have fun. I don’t want to be forced to “git gud” at something I’ll never play again just to get a point I need from it. I also don’t like that my progression is in limbo now because I haven’t completed all the masteries and earning experience is utterly meaningless.

I’d prefer to see a switch to turn off mastery XP gain so XP can mean something to me again without being forced to play something I don’t like. Just being able to deselect a mastery progression bar and have XP default back to standard Core progression would improve this system dramatically.

I feel like a kid in a candy store with $20 to spend however I like. Do I buy all the little cheap things I’ve bypassed because they’re always there (permanent finishers, extra glider skins)? Or do I finally splurge on the expensive thing that’s really pointless and/or marginally useful but super cool (crystal arbiter pack)? What would/will you buy?

SilverWaste botting problem

Aurelian Omenkind.2470

Typical signs of bots:
Glitchy movement/patterns, mindlessly follows whoever is tagged up regardless of being in the squad or not, attacks anything aggro close to it,
ALWAYS goes after bandit chests then resumes to following tag with glitchy movement.

That sounds kinda like how i normally play minus the glitchy movement. I’m a far less than optimal player, so I just try to get in some fun as I bounce around the world map doing dailies or randomly trying to fill out achievements or farm stuff for things like Mawdrey. (Still haven’t finished that one off.) I tend to follow commander tags because that’s where the action is. The only difference might be that I likely won’t be in the same map two days in a row. I’m only mentioning this to hopefully keep innocent REAL players from being falsely accused of botting. Be confident they’re bots before you send that report.

I’m a story first kind of player and typically solo content. HoT was fun for me story-wise but a royal pain for some of the missions. Hearts and Minds was supremely annoying to me soloing as a ranger. Season 3 is categorically harder, especially the last boss fight to date. Died prolly 12 times, no exaggeration. Used at least 2 repair canisters to get through it.

I like the co-op feel of open world content in HoT and S3 maps when enough people are there to help, but I wonder if I’ll ever map all of DS due to the low player population nearly every time I log on. I may never be able to complete the meta achievements or earn the rewards I need for a legendary because of Dragons Stand and Tangled Depths.

It would be easier to get PUGs and crowded meta events if Anet could incite new interest in these maps. I think soloing content feels easier when you know you can join a PUG as an option.

Bonus power(s) for Legendaries

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aurelian Omenkind.2470

Aurelian Omenkind.2470

i guess what I’m really talking about would be some sort of inherent sigil or trait level effect. If free sigil swapping is what could accomplish that, that’s fine by me.

I acknowledge the counterpoints made above contending that raising the power level of legendaries is anathema to Anets desires for the game. Or, at least, for the players’ desires for the game which is also a valid point. But saying it’s a bad idea because people would leave the game is not a connected point. I left the game for a year and a half because life got busy and I didn’t have time for it. A friend left the game because he got a new game that captured his attention instead. (That game subsequently got replaced by yet another when he bought that one.) I also contend that there were likely other pressing concerns that compelled other players to leave, even game related ones, but I think it’s likely not as prevalent that adding ascended gear is solely what caused many players to quit. Even if it were, the complaint at the time was that ascended gear devalued legendaries which this kind of minor power creep would kind of fix.

Me being more of a story addict, I love the idea of building a weapon that’s truly epic in the context of my personal story. I now have ascended gear which makes me competitive in PvE and I’m happy with it. I’m not so stat-fiddly I need to swap sigils or runes regularly to get max results for a new zone or encounter. I’ll likely forget my first legendary can even do that once I have one. I just want to run around and have fun, see new things, hear the next chapter in my story. I know that makes me a non-optimal player but I don’t care. Life is still busy and I just want to have fun for a couple hours by diving into Tyria.

Bonus power(s) for Legendaries

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aurelian Omenkind.2470

Aurelian Omenkind.2470

I know that Anet has typically been against providing a distinctive advantage to certain types of content simply to avoid the charge of pay-to-play. I get that although I probably stand in opposition to it in some respects provided it’s not egregious. (The watchwork mining pick and molten or consortium harvesting sickles come to mind as examples of something i’d like to see more of.)

However, I’m vastly in favor of rewarding the massive effort and expense of creating a legendary with some sort of bonus power for each that matches the lore or aesthetic of the item. Creating a legendary is a monumental expense of time and resources that might otherwise go to growing a person’s in-game wealth or benevolence. To reward the effort with something notably cooler and impactful for PvE gameplay seems appropriate to me. After all, these are LEGENDARY weapons and armor! Lore-wise, they should be magically superior to every other item in the game. Special effects for the items make them look awesome, but they’re not effectively better than ascended, and to me, that seems wrong somehow.

Imagine a Quip that inflicts confusion, a Twilight that inflicts blindness, or a HOPE that poisons — all as inherent qualities. They aren’t game-breaking additions, but can present a more powerful and legendary feel to the weapons. Something similar could be considered for the armor sets as well.

These bonus effects could be eliminated from PvP and WvW to keep the competitive aspect fair, but I see little reason not to include them to PvE.

Forgive me if this has been brought up before — I did a quick search to see if other threads existed on the forum and didn’t find anything.

Watchwork Pick: Why No Response?

Aurelian Omenkind.2470

I must be in the severe minority thinking that the sprocket generation is a good thing. Personally, I’d prefer to see all the other gem store infini-tools get a similar upgrade. Power creep is pervasive in nearly every MMO except GW2 with expansions and other paid content. Adding a very minor benefit to paying customers (which non-paying customers can still cash in on through the gold → gems exchange) is a small way of saying “thank you for supporting us,” IMO.

As for the financial benefit, this doesn’t hold a candle to the kind of coin people make on daily dungeon raids. I really don’t see this as being detrimental to the economy at all. And it’s not like the tools are going away and only those who already bought them will benefit as we’ve seen with the return of the WW pick.

I’d like to see other time-gated or limited supply mats get the same sort of refresh — azurite, passion flowers, zhaitaffy, etc. When huge supplies of some of these mats are necessary for certain recipes, the idea of farming limited-supply nodes for literally a year or two — especially for the casual player or those who prioritize family over gaming — is prohibitive and discouraging.

Seriously doubt we’ll get a new race. The only one I can think of that’d be worth playing (in terms of lore and skill flexibility) would be tengu, and I don’t recall them being prominent in Maguuma. They originated in Cantha, so I wouldn’t expect that kind of expansion until Cantha is reintroduced into the game.

Personally, I’d hate to see most of the other tertiary races as playable — quaggan, skritt, etc. Too specialized and limited lore-wise, IMO.

Guild Wars Heroic Edition

The problem with comparing the Heroic Edition rewards to real-life physical upgrades is logistics. To add a new feature to a car takes significant per-task labor and materials by a trained or knowledgeable person. To add already-encoded features (the labor is done regardless of specific implementation) to an account takes little more than a few keystrokes. The same has already been done with the freebie minis 3-pk and kites they sent out. The logistics can’t be compared as people are illustrating.

The business of the decision, though, I can support. It’s their prerogative not to hand out those goodies if they don’t want to. The value of the current player’s purchase is in their accomplishments over the last year. Would you be willing to have your account reset to “new” to receive these trinkets? I would love to get these as freebies too, but I won’t get even a little miffed if they don’t hand them out.

A nice compromise, though, would be to offer the “upgrade” to current DDE owners at a nominal price like you did with the GOTY upgrade of GW1. Whaddya think, Anet?

So I caved and bought one. Mostly because I’m weak-willed when it comes to limited-time, infinite use items like this. But now using it, I can see its niche. It won’t replace the higher tier salvage kits, but it fits in nicely for getting mats off white and blue drops. It may not be economical (and I still prefer to see it improve to higher level kit compatibility) but it’s a convenience when running out of bag slots while farming maps.

Aurelian Omenkind.2470

This item is completely worthless.

You can buy basic salvage kits for karma.

Did you all just forget that?

The thing to remember about all unlimited use items (cf. harvesting tools) is that the main thing they are providing is convenience. You are paying money so that you don’t need to manage inventory for those items. As one who has the harvesting tools on two characters and not on the others, I can tell you the level of convenience is huge.

So, the issue at hand is not how “economical” the purchase is, but rather what is the level of ease that it provides in playing the game; and, is that level of ease worth $10.

I bought all 3 infinite harvest tools for my main and have never regretted my purchase for any of them. Wish I had the gold or cash to have gotten them for other toons also, but I didn’t so “meh.”

If this salvaged at a rare or better level, I’d be all over it. The fact that it doesn’t give upgrades and has a low % for rare mats means ill be passing this one by. Buying a couple salvage kits from a nearby merchant when I pass by is far less annoying than having to leave a node to find a merchant to get a tool and return to harvest. I’d rather spend the gems on another bag slot.

Improve this to a dial-able cost/grade feature (pay more copper to improve the kit quality) and ill plop down 800 gems so fast it’ll make your head spin.

My bet is that the reactor explosion came from an early Inquest attempt to capture and experiment on Lyssa (chaos energy) which caused the gods to rescue her and abandon Tyria while she heals. Am I the only one who sees this?

The Thaumanova Reactor was the site where the Inquest enslaved and trapped Lyssa to try separating the Twins. Her chaos power wkittentered in a massive explosion, so the human gods rescued her and abandoned Tyria until she heals. How is this not obvious?

Infinite salvage kit, though I suspect this might never see the light of day.
