2400 ex WoW player - come talk Gw2 PvP!

GW2 is not a competitive PvP game. The profession balance is still in it infancy after a year and a half and the game developers most be high elves because their approach towards proper balance will take an eternity.

I had high hope for this game and in the end I find myself wanting to go back to WoW because GW2 has an identity issue and doesn’t want to take the proper risks that can improve the game.

If you want a competitive pvp game, Legend of Leagues, DotA 2, or even WoW are more superior games.

GW2 needs to get its act together.

Keep fighting the good fight

I haven’t been in game for a while because I am in the process of learning LoL. I would love to come back to GW2 once ANet fixes the Rangers main mechanic: THE PETS!

The Dec 10th changes look good for the Signet builds I always run but fixing the pet mechanics and the F functions attached to it should have also been ANet’s number 1 priority.

Therefore, I hope ANet decides to fix the broken pet mechanics next. And to the Ranger community, keep pushing the major issues with the Ranger so we can finally have a fun and balanced profession.

Pet ai? Nope. Pets are just a copy of mobs you would find in pve, nothing more nothing less.

Yup, the Ranger’s main mechanic is is a carbon copy of a pve mob. Nothing more and a lot if nothing.

Nature Magic X – Enlargement. This trait now uses Signet of the Wild to trigger. This reduces the cooldown to 60 seconds and allow it to interact with the Signet of the Beastmaster and Signet Mastery traits.

This trait is now basically the active portion of Signet of the Wild, meaning it can be reduced with Signet Mastery and will also apply to the ranger when Signet of the Beastmaster is equipped and Might if you have Beastmaster’s Might equipped.

Oh believe me, as a Signet Ranger, I understood the patchnote perfectly the first time – and started mentally rearranging my points to get this new trait ASAP!!

So. (*#($&@ing. Cool.

These changes look ok on paper but I still think the core problem for the Ranger is the pet mechanics.

The F fucntions need to be reworked

F1 and F3 should proved boons so the pet can attack and escape better.
Ex:
F1 should proved 10 secs of Swiftness and Stability on a 20 to 30 sec CD
F3 should proved 10 secs of Protection and Swiftness on a 20 to 30 secs CD

Also, F1 IMHO should work like “Guard” when it comes to positioning your pet rather than sacrificing a utility slot for it.

F2 for pets with AoE skills should all be ground targeted. This will improve Ranger’s viability in large group situations such as, in WvW, Dungeons or on World Boss fights.

Pet switching CD should be reduced slightly

Pet resurrection CD need to go down to 30 secs IMHO

The pet needs an evade mechanic or passive condition removal so the pet can keep up with Ranger and effectively execute the Ranger’s commands

Pet pathing and attacks on the move needs to be improved

Stability Training should be base line for all pets

GW2 PvP/WvW...

this game is not a serious PvP game and should have never been advertised or treated as one.

I most agree with your post, but that’s just false.
GW2 has NEVER been advertised as a PvP game by Arenanet.

Many promotional videos about GW2, before the open beta weekends, had developers saying that they wanted to cater to the esport community, that was basically and a clever way of advertising GW2 as a future esport. Hence, many enthusiastic pvp players took this as a sign that GW2 would push to be an esport eventually and that is the reason why many pvp oriented players picked up this game.

Also, Actions speak louder than words.

A prime example is that Anet spend most of their PvP resources in the beginning of 2013 developing the Ranking system, spectator mode, rank/solo 5v5 tournaments, held their first tournament championship during the PAX event, State of the Game podcast focus mainly on sPvP balance. Just because they never admitted to it fully doesn’t mean that they didn’t make teaser statements that were taken seriously by esport enthusiasts.

I am not saying you are wrong, but they did entertain the concept to keep their pvp fan base hopeful.

Blizzard admitted early on that they weren’t going to make PvP a priority over PvE for WoW; whereas, ANet always had plans to focus on both PvE and sPvP with WvW as a casual friendly PvP environment. Furthermore, the bad decisions from Anet to only focus on Conquest modes and limited profession balance has pushed many pvpers away from this game.

Left WoW for GW2, end up disappointed

You’re not forced to do anything.

You can start your own dungeon groups and announce theyare open to any class, they will fill up in seconds.

As to the WvW part, who is it that “orders” you to not do anything? Just roam around yourself and kill stragglers if there is no group/zerg to run with.

The problem with WvW is that if you run with a zerg with a hardcore/dedicated leader, he/she wants a solid core of professions. Rangers, Thieves, and Engineers are not part of their strategy because they bring little to these large zerg fights; whereas, the 4 main profession are just easier to manage, stack and have the best synergy.

This is a no win situation because Anet is not to blame mainly but the hardcore zerg leaders that want to win fights.

Is a failure IMHO.

Why?

sPvP

1. Look at the Mists on all servers. What a waste of space. All different kinds of target/dodging dummies, a few NPC with Ranger pet AI intelligence to fight against. Anet you want players in the Mist. Open up player dueling and you’ll see numbers start to climb immediately.

2. One full year of only mediocre Conquest maps have pushed away Players from dire boredom with no quality reward system for all that time put into it.

3. No changes to sPvP trinkets and condition mechanics force all professions into cookie cutter AoE condition spamming builds ?.

4. The wak-a-mole Profession revamps to Nercos, Warriors, Thieves when professions like the Elementalist, Ranger and Engineer still have mechanic and bugs issues from Beta that not been fixed.

5. Trying to profit off an unfinished product (Spvp) is just bad business.

WvW

1. WvW is the only place for PvXer to PvP. PvXers enjoy fighting players on a smaller scale which doesn’t mean put an sPvP obstacle course in the middle of the borderland.

2. WvW large group fights on a competitive level only involve 4 professions: Hammer Warriors, Hammer/Condition Removing Guardians, Staff Elementalists and Staff/Plauge Necros. A mesmer or two are need for Veil but that is it. No one welcomes Rangers, Thieves, Engineers or even up-levels in competitive WvW play yet I bet up-levels of the 4 main WvW professions would be more welcome than Ranger, Thieves and Engineers.

3. We hunger for PvP not standing in towers or in front of them dancing around arrowcart fire most of the time in WvW.

4. GvG is a creature of the lack of PvP gamemodes in GW2

5. Leagues will only push players away because of the server population disparates.
GW2 is not a good PvP game and that is a major reason why players have left in legions. ANet, the problem is that your vision of this game is just bad for it. This is not the Field of Dreams where: “If you build it, they will come. This is the real world: if you build it and don’t improve it properly; people will get bored of it, than leave it. Most players once they leave a MMO they have played for a while will never come back.

My beef with GW2 is the profession development favoritism and the slow turtle speed of balance changes proves that this game is not a serious PvP game and should have never been advertised or treated as one.

I just finished reading the reddit post and this is exactly why I have been distancing myself from GW2 for the last 2 months.

Quotes I liked the most:

“Classes seem to be balanced around PvP, which almost no one plays, leading to issues in PvE and WvW. And some seem to be favored by the dev team, like warrior, while in a recent talk they couldn’t even find a ranger minor trait that many people run and which hasn’t moved since launch. Engineer has many bugs from launch which are still unfixed. In GW1, I played a ranger, a monk, and a mesmer, and each class felt like it had a unique and important role to play in both PvE and PvP. And the builds for each were so much more varied; there were many more possibilities for how to play each class.”

“Every balance update seems to introduce more bugs than it fixes. The improved tool-tips from the latest patch look very good, but they contain so many inconsistencies and inaccuracies that I think I would have preferred those resources go to fixing existing bugs. We’ve been promised a major re-working of trait lines that has yet to happen. For a game that promises you can play how you want, most (or all) classes are pigeon-holed into a small number of builds/roles at more skilled levels of play.”

Communication with the community is abysmal. Anet keeps its people on a very tight leash. They do not interact much with the community on the forums or anywhere, and when they do, it’s usually in the form of canned, sanitized responses. There is much ambiguity and very little honesty. They frequently announce changes which garner a large negative reaction and implement them anyway, without discussion or modification.

ANet your game is in crisis, I hope you all know that.

I would have tested it yesterday but I was force to log on my warrior to wipe a megablob so I couldn’t tell ya.

Also, it would be nice if some of the Ranger on these forums help test the builds you/I have crafted to see if they are viable. One of the biggest problems Rangers have in WvW zerging is to prove their worth. If the immobilize stacking is viable, we need to use it!

Build 1: 30/20/20/0/0 Good for zergs

Build 3: BM Immobilize (Lots of Immobilize)

I bet other Rangers have come up with better builds for this but we need to get it out there if it works will.

I’d agree with everything except the Ele, they are more or less worthless. An extra War or Guardian in the group would easily be more desired. But I see where you’re coming from.

Elementalists have it rough in the current cookie cutter strategy. The are responsible for rotating water fields, Static fields, now immobilize with the new changes, AoE damage when they can and stay alive.

Without Staff elementalists or any profession to provide water fields will lose out on a lot of sustain/utility if they are fighting an organized guild or mega zerg.

Sounds like you run with the wrong people or you’re a bit sensitive to criticism. You’re right, most zergs/commanders don’t want rangers because other classes bring more to the table. BUT you know what is better that most classes? A very competent player. If you are good, don’t die, stay on the commander, follow directions, there is no reason you shouldn’t be allowed to play your ranger. Now if a commander is flat out telling you not to follow him on your ranger, then your on the wrong server or following the wrong people. While rangers aren’t the best for zergs, this game is about fun, so if you can be successful and help the zerg be successful then is shouldn’t matter in the main zerg.

In closing I would rather take a few competent players over 10 mindless pugs….Also get over it, you’re not going to get much sympathy because Rangers are kinda like the running WvW joke….

They are the running joke of WvW and I am tired of it. This is Anet fault for putting the profession in this position. I have been playing WvW mainly on my Ranger for over a year on SoR. I theorycrafted zerging builds that work vs large zergs but I can’t get any one to play them because Ranger players are completely shun from zerging without remorse. Rangers are the best immobilizers in the game and now with the stacking buff Rangers can do this better than any class even without their pet too (which ANet need to fix A.S.A.P.!) but Warriors and Elementalists just fit better then replacing them with Rangers.

Go read the class threads on this board and one will come to the realization all classes are bads! Better yet go read the WOW class forums, a game that has had what, 8years or so to balance the game? you will again come to the realization all WOW classes are bads as well.

On a side note, a vocal minority on chat making jokes about your class is enough to start this thread, really? You need thicker skin for MMO’s man…..

I have a thick skin I just warning others that it might not be a good idea to bandwagon to T1 servers and pointing out a grim reality when WvW goes into super competitive mode.

I used to zerg on a thief back when they were the bane of zergs. I got kitten for it, but I’m a adult and I knew as long as I was successful in the zerg who cares what they say. You have quite a few options to go with, quit because everything you said, find another game. Suck it up and play your ranger, if its a issue on SoR transfer, if its a guild stop following them. Or conform and pick a new class…

As for improving the ranger, its probably better to do it in a more constructive way in the Ranger forums.

LOL, I already conformed buddy and sucked it up for months yet it doesn’t change the fact that this WvW leagues are going to be a bad thing. I am pointing out an important issue that comes up in WvW other than coverage, server stacking, PPT and cheats. I just want a better game balance so no one has to conform to 4 cookie cutter professions.

The are both 2 of the easier classes to play. I would say warrior if you want a damage base class or Guardian if you like the support role a little more. If you want to do a little of both and make your zerg leader pull his hair out of his head when he sees you; play a Ranger or Engineer.

pretty turned off by wvw atm myself. being a squshy veilbot for all the dominat other classes is not what i see as fun at all. mesmers are only wanted in guilds to veil and tw them. other than that we got nothing to contribute dmg wise. and rangers are not even accepted in a lot of hardcore wvw guilds. problem is our ai and also that anet “buffs” us around spvp where we both can do well or decent.

id give up all my clones and all the stupid ai for something useful for wvw.

I didn’t put Mesmers in the cookie cutter category because the are just used for 3 skills and that has to be the most un-exciting role in WvW. Also, you only need 2 mesmers for a group of 30 to 40 players.

CC stacking in PvP is a rookie design mistake. Almost every other MMO PvP ever made has Diminishing Returns on CC. (Or it breaks on damage).

Too much CC is one of the things that killed Warhammer Online.

But as the expression goes, those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it.

I agree that too much CC is not a good thing but Stability stacking with Superior Runes of Melandru is just as bad because zergs just run over the CC making cripple and immobilize useless.

I hate the state of WvW at this time because it only promotes 4 cookie cutter professions and shuns anything else as useless or not helping the team.

The Ranger is the only class I enjoy playing in GW2 yet the GW2 WvW community and ANet just want to promote their trinity system of Hammer Warriors (Damage, utility) and Hammer Guardians (Healing, Utility, Support), Staff Necromancers ( Condi spamming, Damage, Utility) and Staff Elementalists (Healing, Support, Utility) down my throat because they are the easiest, no brain professions to play in WvW zerging. Therefore, I have lost interest in this game almost completely. There is nothing fun about playing a game mode that only benefit 4 cookies cutters builds.

I play a Hammer Guardian and Warrior too in WvW and it is so boring and routine that I rather play Mortal Combat 2 for its deep and complexity over these two cookie cutter face roll professions.

Players that are moving or have moved to serious T1 servers be warned that if you don’t play the cookie cutter build that the top guilds have come up with (which are all the same IMHO), you are going to have a horrible experience being forced to play the viable professions and builds even if you are not in these guilds but run with them.

To be honest, GW2 is not going in a good direction with these WvW leagues: let face it, WvW leaders want to win fights and they rather have 30 players of the most viable professions and I don’t blame them. If you play on T1 servers as Ranger, Thief or Engineers you will be forces into the Ruins because that is where zerg leaders will put you if they are having a bad day and need a scapegoat or have you sit in a tower all day long.

I think the Immobilize stacking is a good thing for WvW to counter play stability stacking.

As a Ranger main, we have the most Immobilize out of every profession yet our pet is the source of 2 of them and pets are a none factor in WvW zerg fights.

Immobilize stacking is going to be countered by Superior Runes of Melandru and Lemongrass poultry so we can only wait and see.

Having no clue is human. I forgive human mistake. What i really can’t understand is why Anet can’t listen to us. We told them so many times, in very well argumented posts, full of passion to improve our game, what ranger needs. And the ranger community very often agrees on certain solutions, that they would really help and at same time not make us overpowered.

Anet a clue for you, if you are clueless yourself, listen to the people with WAAAAAAAAAAAY more playtime then you guys. I know you guys wanna ignore us because casual gameplay is first priority (and we are to hardcore in your books). But at same time, casual players are 95% of time happy no matter how broken something is. We will see the real problems for what they are. I have 8×80 profession, all of them 320+ hours. I played all in wvw (roaming and zerging), dungeons (casual and hardcore), pve, living story, spvp, etc. I don’t like to brag, but here you go, people like me (and rest in this topic), are way more qualified to make statements about professions problems, then you are Anet. It’s time to pull to plug on your own stubborn vision, and insert the communities vision.

I honestly think that ANet fully understands the issues with the Ranger but are not going to fix them properly until they have better profession balance with the other professions first before they decide to dedicate resources to fixing Ranger.

My issue is that they are not admitting these problems and basically ignore issues they don’t have the resources at the moment to fix. The Ranger community has been very patient with ANet but sooner or later patience becomes frustration.

Considering thieves will be doing this now:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1oic60/thieferis_the_snare_king_thief_proof_of_concept/

I think guildwars2 has lost some direction, sadly.

In that thread, OP discusses how a thief can…

“Thieferis, The Snare King build Pros:

  • Good Control — Stun / Immobilize at least one target on a ~3 second CD
  • Immobilize — If you want to immobilize your target, you can try to aim for a +50-100% * condition duration build which will get you 1.5s-2s second immobilizes on your target.
  • Good Armor-Negating damage — Perplexity runes offer us the ability to stack 25 * confusion easily. This is 3-4k damage whenever the affected target “acts” even if it is to clear the condition. Since it lasts 15 seconds, you can be sure they’ll hurt in one way or the other. (Having your enemy do nothing for 15 seconds is good control as well wink)
  • “Perma” Confusion — Stunning every 3 seconds for 5 stacks of 15 second confusion means 25 stacks of confusion indefinitely.
  • Surprisingly good health pool for a Thief (16-20k)
  • Should have anywhere from 3-20 stacks of might
  • Good access to vigor/dodging"

That looks really freaking scary! Wow, ANET. Seriously?

Chopps, I have come to the conclusion that ANet has no direction. I have hardly played in a month because of the stale state of the Ranger and PvP in general. I really don’t want to be that person that checks up on the forums once in a while to see patch updates but ANet is forcing me to do this with their philosophy of: “If its broken, don’t fix it.”

Extremely. I hold that the main balance devs should be forced to play only rangers in all game modes for an entire month. Maybe then they would be forced to see what we’ve been saying since launch.

They should be forced to play a Ranger in a hardcore WvW guild for a month. I would give them a week until:

A. They quit ANet from all for the rage they will get for playing a Ranger in the first place in a hardcore WvW guild

B. Finally understand our pain and hire the BEST developers to fix the Ranger A.S.A.P.

But none of this will happen.

I really don’t have anything to say about it other than it was a terrible balance patch. Not just from a balance perspective either. Launching features that don’t work (Vigorous Training), breaking tooltips to not make sense (sword), and making improvements to skills that are broken by design/unresponsiveness (Pet F2s).

That’s ON TOP of not understanding the games classes well enough to balance them appropriately.

I waited 4 months of my time for this nonsense. I mean, life goes on outside of Guild Wars 2, of course. But 4 months for this? I’m extremely tired of trying to be respectful and understanding for the “plight” of the devs, only to be answered with incompetence on their part when there was more than enough time and opportunity to do things right.

I’m starting to think ANet is nothing more than a bunch of mediocre community college intro to programming students who a joined a STEM club to create Guild Wars 2 for extra credit. Because there’s no way I’d be paying these people to do a job like this.

Living World Team, Content Team, Design Team, Support Team, etc, all fine. Balance Team, somebody get some new blood in this department.

I probably won’t be logging into the game again until December, and that’s only if I see a “juicy” looking patch.

It sadness me too

I feel ANet in the past year has been very unprofessional with its game. The game looks and plays amazing but the quality they have put into balancing the professions in this game is just a sign of how out of touch they are.

The 2 things that happen in the last month that has destroyed any confidence I had in Anet.

1. The leak patch notes and the video from the leaker

2. The ANet employee that started trolling players during a GvG

I agree, I am very disappoint as well. A lot of us had high hopes and patience for ANet to get their act together but actions speak louder than words. One year of pure Conquest with poor balancing changes have made GW2 stale after playing it for a year.

I swear ANet is similar to that guy you heard talking to this girlfriend:

“Please don’t leave me baby, I’ll changes!! Please give me another chances!” Meanwhile, nothing changes.

Yup, we are the women that have been believing this lie!

Huh.. I dont like to be negative usually, but those patch notes are very underwhelming for what was supposed to be a balance patch. A lot of words but will mostly just be a very minor nerf for me. More like a “housekeeping” patch.

Very minor QoL changes. Will not help with the poor representation this profession has in the community.

The Ranger will be a mediocre profession until this is address. The more Anet procrastinates on this issue, the more players they will lose

Yawn, not a surprise at all:
I guess it was a good idea to take a small break from GW2 to get into LoL because by the time ANet gets their act together people will have wires attached to there heads in order to play MMOs.

The problem is the Ranger’s pet, its mechanics, its AI, its, its patching, its F2 functionally, its long cast times, its long react times.

Fix it or get rid of it….

Oct 11 Patch Preview now Beginners Guide

I have no confidence that the Oct. 15 patch will be minor tweaks to weapons and traits and sic’em will be situational at best.

I really think Anet is has not handled this game professionally at all. Everything from the fail conquest mode in spvp, profession balance, devs fighting with players about gvgs are signs to me that GW2’s future after the launch of ESO and other anticipated games looks grim IMHO.

If this game doesn’t do a 360 and focus on real profession balance and more PvP modes for both spvp and with pve gear or plan to release this stuff as a carrot on a string when the newer hyped games come out, its going to hurt ANet big time.

It has been hard for me to play this game lately because I play only WvW and I am sick and tired of having to hear how Rangers suck, and how I need to re-roll a warrior, elementalist or guardian when I play better than most of the players in viable professions.

Rangers will not be fixed until they solve the issues with the pet mechanics and Sic’em change is like putting a bandaid on a broken leg.

Again ppl like you do not have the issues being in one of the balanced tiers. Thus for you it’s not in your back yard so it’s not your problem. Consider for a moment the other 42 servers.

The players and guilds on the other 42 servers are going have to make tough decisions from: Recruitment to moving to other servers were they share the same values.

There are going to be people that play to win and will bandwagon to servers to achieve that goal. Others will go to servers with better communities. WvW is meant to be fun not balanced and complaining about it wouldn’t change anything.

I know all about the server imbalances and it is not up to ANet at this moment but for the player base to decision what their next course of action should be. Once one/two seasons of the the league are completed than ANet can take some actions about balancing servers. Complaining about its is a poor waste of energy IMO.

Ayden you should really read the posts above yours.

This is hardly a “GvG-only issue” – in fact GvG is the easiest thing for ANet to solve if they expand Custom Arenas to support 15v15 or 20v20.

It is the effect (both psychological and actual) that the Bloodlust Buff has on imbalanced Matches (which is going to be even more common in 2 weeks when Leagues/Seasons start). People need some way to feel “competitive” and “successful” while playing and the Orb Buff really only enhances that in balanced matches.

+1 Point-per-Stomp was brilliant and would’ve had the same impact on the Meta in NA T1. If it is countered by Outnumbered negating it, it is still valuable in blowout matches. But +150 Per Stat is really soul-crushing in matches where people are already battling 2-4 times their number of opponents. At that point even 1v1s and the occasional “even-up” fight are stacked against them.

It was a horrible, horrible decision on ANet’s part to put it in.

I didn’t read any post until I wrote my own because I was responding to the OP.

On the subject of imbalances: stat bonuses can always be adjusted and the server league matches will be different once ANet starts to collect data from the league. We have to wait and see how this pans out. What are major WvW guild communities going to do prior and after the launch of the league?

I wouldn’t stay on a stack server if I am waiting over 2 hours in queue on a weekday to play WvW.

I think the boarderland change is a great succuss coming from a person how has play WvW on SoR when we were in tier 7. A lot of us in tier 1 or in any tier wanted the end of the super blobing and this recent change has done that. Most of the rage coming from these forums is mainly disgruntled GvGers that can’t continue their fights because of the Bloodlust buff. Honestly get over it! GvG was good for people how played the meta and unfun for players that didn’t. This started to spill into the WvW zerging meta as well making zerging less fun because once you’ve seen one noob train and know how to counter it, you’ve seen them all. WvW needed this and we all know it.

That is basically the way I see it.

I think the stat buff is fine for now but if its an issue once the servers get more organized, I wouldn’t mind a slight adjustment if needed.

AydenStar.4216

Yes,

The spvp jungle-jim is a lot of fun and it will end the mega blobs soon.

The bloodlust buff doesn’t bother me much (besides it being bugged and laggy)

Large zergs will have to learn how to micro manage there groups rather than blobing to victory

Yay for points when you stomp opponents

An end to the GvG deathmatching in WvW which needed to be addressed. (yet I do want there to be a place for that in the near future when all professions are balanced around large group engagements)

Thanks Anet

The changes to WvW are a roamer’s paradise and it should be.

I am a WvW zerger who loves open field fights but I can’t stomach this GvG 20vs20 deathmatch culture. There are no profession or build disparities. Its one cookie cutter comp vs the similar cookie cutter comp zerging around picking of stragglers most of the time. I really think 5v5 deathmatches would be better to watch and would involve more group composition. I would like in the near future to be a place where two large guilds can shoot the fair one but I would like at that time for there to be more build and profession diversity.

so Rangers are kind of the Swiss Army Knife of GW2? Our Blade might not be as long or as sharp but instead we also bring a Saw, Scissors, a corkscrew and a toothpick?
I am convinced
And you are dead right to live by that motto of yours! But what this thread was supposed to be about was to give Rangers a few hard facts in hand to justify their position

With the new meta coming to WvW, there are going be less zerging ( I mean less 90+ blobs) and more havoc teams/35-45 man zergs oriented, and the Ranger is going to be a nice place because they can branch off the zerg and join a smaller team at times which Rangers have always been good at. Being the Jack of all Trades and one of the tankiest/mobile professions in the game, we are going to be very useful for sure.

My guild has been preparing for this meta change for a while and its going to be fun being micromanaged around the boarderlands.

Alright I will give you that you can play the ranger as a frontliner if you try really hard. But tell me if I m wrong but no competetive Guild uses a Ranger in their GvG build, as far as I know, since (at least thats what Pryda of former Red Guard told me once) Ranger cannot do anything another class cant do better, or with less effort and hence has space for other tasks.

Yes, when you are optimizing team composition for a 20vs20 death match, a Ranger is kinda lackluster but I am not a fan of GvG because we all know this game’s profession balance centers around sPvP. And yes, we have to work harder to pull some skills off that other profession can do easier yet I play a Guardian and that class is a snooze cruise.

lets talk one aspect that didn’t count in so far: The Pet. Our grand ‘Class mechanic’ or ’Class Hindrance as some might put it.
In almost every aspect of the game I hear people complaining about its randomnes. Even in duels, where it should be an advantage to have 2 acting entities, it appear to cause trouble due to the lack of control we have over it. That becomes even worse in large Scale WvW or AoE heavy PvE events. (Dragons e.g.)

I agree, the lack of control of the pet is major issue. If you look at one of my last forum post I tried calling out ANet about our pet mechanics vs zerg warfare.

In accodrance to the Pet-Problem there’s another Criterium that shoudl be added:
What can we do that other classes cannot do better
in this context all solo oriented tasks wont be included cause obviously, when your on your own, you cannot be replaced

Ranger is a scapegoat profession. So if you lost a match, it is the Rangers fault even if you weren’t there :P The world can end and it will still be the Ranger’s fault On paper the Ranger is kinda lackluster but once you master it in ZvZ we bring somethings better that just get overlooked.

Ranger can increase a groups damage potential through Spirit of Frost(this is better from the recent change), Spotter trait (7%), and vulnerability stacks—this is never looked at

What you need to understand is that we do a little of everything with better survivability than other profession.

Warrior/Guardians/Necros might have good CC similar to the Ranger but do they have water field—No

Elementalists might have all the fields and similar CC but are they easy to kill—Yes

Elementalists have Static field but they have to switch attunements from Water to Air most of the time—Rangers don’t, plus Muddy Terrain is not a combo field which is useful during initial bursting when the group need to blast certain fields.

I don’t GvG because I am never going to get a chance to because I play a Ranger. I have theory crafted this profession to the point I need a vacation. I think Rangers will be a great profession once they revamp our pet mechanics. I just hope its in the near future.

Beside that I live by a motto:
Bring the player not the class/profession

Also @ Ayden: this might not belong here but why do you use moas in your build? And Why do you have healing power gear?

Moa’s for group buffs. (group oriented)
I mainly use Hounds, Drakes or Moa as my pets in WvW

I don’t use healing gear, put power. I looked at the link I posted and its the same link from my blog.

Team Arena - Death Match

in PvP

Posted by: AydenStar.4216

AydenStar.4216

I was wondering if there ever will be a mode like this in Guild Wars 2.

In Guild Wars the original, it was always fun to hot join with some guys and just see who would win in a death match, whether it was Team Arena or Random Arena. Even the maps that had objectives within it like capturing the flag for a buff. That stuff.

I don’t always like having to critically think about placement in Capture Points. Where people should be and when.

There is a roomer going around that they are going to add a deathmatch mode for their custom arenas but when that is coming out is unknown.
