Make it simple… 1500 gems to transfer to higher tier servers from your current server, and 500 gems to transfer to lower tier servers from your current server.

Let me first start off by saying that this is by no means a thorough look at all the problems we see in WvW. This is just a couple of ideas that I feel would greatly improve the gameplay of WvW. These are also probably not original ideas. I’m sure someone, somewhere have made these suggestions but it never hurts to make the argument for them again. Are these ideas viable? I think so. Will Anet make these changes? Probably not. But if enough of the community shows support for good ideas, maybe it will at least cross their minds.

Without further adieu, my suggestions:

Remove in combat rezzing (downed state or dead) / 1 player rally per kill
This is a great idea to help smaller groups take on larger zergs. My original thought was to remove the downed state all together (and the rally mechanic with it), but I think Anet has already put a lot of work into it and it actually is a rather unique aspect of the game. By removing in combat rezzing, you prevent large groups from mass rezzing players in the middle of a fight, while still allowing players to contribute in downed state by doing damage and using their other downed state abilities. They can still be rallied by player abilities such as the warrior banner or necromancer signet (makes these abilities much more important to organized groups) so no player abilities will need to be altered. Rezzing players out of combat is of course still allowed. The second part of this idea is to allow only 1 downed player to be rallied by an enemy death. This prevents larger groups from regaining the advantage by preventing large numbers of players in the zerg from being rallied by the death of an npc mob or even an up leveled enemy. Again, the major function of the mechanic is left in place which keeps it a unique aspect of the game.

New tower/keep upgrade system
The new system would go something like this:
- Doors and walls no longer auto repair when an objective is taken. Servers must repair the damage they did before it was taken. Any wall/door upgrades already completed at the objective would remain intact. All other upgrades (merchants, guards, oil, cannons, etc) would be reset.
- The objective receives 100 (arbitrary number) supply on flip to get repairs started.
- Door and wall upgrades are no longer qued through the quartermaster. Instead, each door and wall is upgraded individually through repairing.
- Example: A wooden wall at full health would show a health bar at 50%. Players would have to put supply into that wall until the health bar reaches full. Once full, the wood wall would become reinforced and the health bar would drop to half. This process would repeat until it is full fortified.
- If a reinforced wall/fortified wall/reinforced door is destroyed, the upgrade for that section would reset to wood.

The main reason for me behind this new system is to promote more player vs. player combat. If an enemy just flipped your keep or tower, you will still have a short time to respond before the enemy locks you out. Of course, if you make it in, you will still have to fight them for it. If an enemy is trebbing your fortified wall section, you better go destroy it before it destroys the wall and resets your upgrade.
Other potential benefits:
- Makes supply camps and supply that much more important.
- Allows servers to upgrade the most vulnerable doors/walls first.
- Forces groups to hit walls/doors they wouldn’t normally hit due to them being less upgraded.
- Gives people who like to repair/upgrade/run supplies something to do and makes them that much more important for doing it.
- Gives scouts something to do while they wait for enemies to attack.
- Makes defense more important. If you don’t want to give the enemy a fortified keep, you better defend it.

If you like or dislike these ideas, feel free to comment. If you have ideas to add, feel free, just remember these are not ideas to fix every issue, just ideas to make things a little better and keep constructive discussions going on improvements to WvW.

With the upcoming Edge of the Mists WvW Overflow map coming in the future and no season 2 planned, Will we see servers merged together in order to make WvW more competitive?

To me this seems like a good idea. The only negative I see is that some people have put a lot of work into their server communities and will probably complain. But on the positive side, WvW matches would be closer with more variety in match ups as servers would be able to better compete with eachother.

Anything done to discourage 75-100 man Zergs?

What are your guys feelings on removing caps of stun, fear, knockback, etc abilities rather than all aoe? While I think removing all aoe caps would be best, this might be a nice middle ground depending on the strain this puts on the server.

So basically leave the cap on damage spells and remove damage and player cap from all Crowd Control abilities.

This I’m sure will be discussed later, but don’t you think this will make lopsided matches even more lopsided? Once a server starts to lose, players from that server will start playing the overflow map instead of the borderland map and helping their servers. I like the idea of a new map, but I like the idea of close matches more.

1. Currently when a server gains the bloodlust buff on the borderland they are on, they keep it until another server caps 3 nodes and holds for 2 minutes. It would be much better if you lose the bloodlust buff as soon as you hold less than 3 nodes.

2. Fix the lag associated with a server recieving the buff.

3. Remove the stat portion of the buff but keep the points on stomp. If need be, increase the points on stomp to make the buff more rewarding. Stats only help the stronger server get stronger.

The answer to why server populations don’t need to be balanced has always been that WvW was a casual game mode. With the introduction of leagues this is no longer the case. In the case of NA servers, there is undoubtedly a huge population coverage difference between the 1-3 ranked servers and the 4-6 ranked servers. As you can imagine, this will cause some problems.

So…
1. What will Anet do to balance server populations or will they not do anything?

2. What will Anet do to prevent people from transferring to winning servers to get the rewards?

3. Now that WvW is taking a more serious direction, will we see more updates to the WvW game mode?

As do I. We will address this system when we are able to completely revamp it and bringing it to the level it should be at.

Many of the guilds who would have invested the most into WvW have already moved on from the game. Anet needs to realize that the “hardcore” WvW guilds are the core of the WvW community and if they want to make WvW as good as it can be, they need to listen to those players/guilds and work with them to implement the changes they suggest.

All of Devon’s replies came on two days out of the last 1+ month. He is not here consistently working with the community on solutions to the issues we have, he spends a day here and there telling people they WANT to do something about things and that is all. To me that says they are doing the bare minimum to keep WvWers from leaving the game. You can thank him for the work they have done on the rest of the game, but the work done on WvW is bad at best.

So I see quite a few people attempting to make up facts here so I will attempt to clarify.

BT entered the GvG area with 25-30 max and began killing red names, as is expected in WvW. There was 10-15 spectators and both GvG groups of 15-20. After a good 3-4 minutes fight and several respawns by TW, BT was eventually overrun by numbers. It should be noted that the initial attack didnt occur during a GvG fight but rather when everyone was standing around.

BT regrouped and made their way back to south camp and were immediately pushed by all the GvGers plus the initial bodies TW called in. That’s when the fight on the bridge in the video happened where TW and RE got rolled several times in a matter of minutes.

Apparently this made TW nerd rage up a storm and called in their entire guild. Before long it was 50+ TW, 15-20 RE, and 10-15 UL (apparently TW can’t do anything with out their sister guilds to blob zerg with), against about 25 BT. Over the next 30-45 minutes BT trolled the kitten out of TW as they chased BT around the map but just couldn’t manage to wipe BT’s full “60+ man blob zerg” of 25 people.

What we learned:

1. Don’t GvG on BT’s map.
2. TW is rediculously easy to troll, in game and on the forums.
3. BT can’t run more then 20 or the will be “map-blob zerging” apparently.

No matter which server you choose, trolls from all the other servers involved will cry about stacking servers and imbalancing tiers (even though there are no tiers anymore). My guild transferred to BG several weeks ago and it has been an absolute blast.

At the end of the day, you have to choose the server that you and your community will be happy on. If you choose BG, I will consider you all teammates. If you choose any other server, you will all be loot bags. Choose wisely.

Because polling on a forum that has no polling option is totally accurate.

The ratings are not going to even out. When you have low tier servers playing high tier servers like we do now, the low tier servers are going to get huge rating boosts despite being completely blown out. Yes Anet will eventually lower the range and then we will be stuck with stale matchups that rarely change once again.

This is not even close to being correct. Every U.S. tier has at least 2 servers who can compete for 1st place. It would not be the same servers moving up and down week after week.

No they don’t, and they have no place in the higher tier every other week.

Take this example (Week 21):
SoR/BG/JQ
TC/FA/DB
Meg/KN/YB

If you instigated WULD, in one week you’d have (Week 22):
SoR/BG/TC
JQ/FA/Meg
DB/KN/X (from lower tier)

I can, very quickly, tell you:
SoR will win by a landslide, TC may as well not show up.
JQ will demolish, Meg need not apply.
DB will win.

So then (Week 23):
SoR/BG/JQ
TC/FA/DB
Meg/KN/YB

And forever it remains. You might get a server or two somewhere amongst the… 24 servers that moves up or down and sticks, maybe. Meanwhile, you’ve stranded: BG, FA, KN, etc, to never moving. The same exact servers would just oscillate forever, and you’d condemn TC to fighting SoR and BG every other week, and FA and Meg fighting JQ every other week.

So basically you are saying you never want matches to change. With the current coverages, SOR is going to win by a large amount regardless. It sounds like your biggest concern is blowouts in a WU,LD system… So I ask you how you can support the current system where servers can get matched with other servers 2-3 tiers above them? At least with a WU,LD system, servers would only get matched 1 tier above them.

I’m sure someone will come here and say that I need to wait until ratings stabilize. But the fact is that servers that are playing 2+ tiers above where they should be are still gaining rating despite being completely blown out. If they are gaining rating then they will be matched more frequently with servers out of their league. If Anet shrinks their range of ratings that play against eachother, then we will once again be stuck with stale matchups.

Looking at tier 2, in the last 10 weeks both TC and DB have finished in all three spots several times each. FA has came in both second and third. That means it will not always be TC or DB moving up, and it will not always be FA moving down.

Can you see where this is going?

Basically, it would just yo yo servers between tiers, unless you are the middle server, then you just alternate vs 2 different servers…

The matchups isn’t a easy problem to solve…because there are large differences across all servers/tiers…

If Anet actually listened to the players who play WvW they would have implemented a winner moves up, loser moves down system. This method would have given server rotation as well as somewhat balanced matches (at least more balanced than what it currently is).

Anet’s failure is not that they aren’t trying, it’s that they are trying without listening to the players who actually have to live with the changes they make.

Hey BT when are you guys expecting to fully be on BG? We ran into about 15 of you guys last night on BG BL but we outnumbered you by a bit. Always looking forward to new competition so hopefully you guys get over here soon!

FA is a great fighting server with many great people. If you’re looking for a server where you can chill with your guild and collect loot bags from the enemies without pressure from others, then FA may be a good place for you. FA is moving up, only at a steady and stable pace, unlike the bandwagon servers who fall apart the second they hit a roadblock.

1. Change the buff to ACs from 80% to 30%.
2. ACs do half damage to other siege equipment.
3. ACs have a slightly smaller range than ballistas.
4. ACs can no longer shoot/damage through doors, walls and roofs. Meaning there needs to be a clear arc from the AC to its destination target.
5. Leave AC mastery as is.

Boom, ACs are balanced.

This thread is really getting out of control. Siege exists in WvW for a reason. A player with siege vs another player with siege is still PvP. Stop trying to argue and use the wiki as your weapon.

Maybe they buffed the AC’s because the percentage of GC builds is getting equally out of control. Now you’ll need to put some toughness and healing in the build. Maybe Arenanet is smarter than you give them credit for. They only made the game!

Srsly, GC builds? Those died at least 2 months ago. Try to keep up with the meta please. They sufficiently nerfed GC builds when they nerfed certain consumables.

I need toughness and healing in my build to deal with the old arrowcarts.

Man but I do love running into GC zergs… they melt so fast they can’t even get their l33t DPS abilities off before they are on their backs.

I’m not saying you tried to hide or omit valuable information; it’s perfectly legitimate to believe that you simply stopped reading once you saw something that supported only your side of the debate. I am not arguing that there should be no siege in WvW. The point was made by the other guy that WvW is NOT PvP. Did you even bother to read the posts?

I have got to say FA guilds are becoming major disappointments for me if this is the best we have as a world to go crying to Anet that its op and to fix it for us. It has not even been a full week of trying new things out and we as a world have ppl who want it to be made easier. I am ashamed to be on the same world as these guilds if this is the true view point of there guilds and not just a few random players from the guild.

I could make some generalizations about the guild you’re in based on your lack of knowledge of the game, but that’s just childish. I like OBEY, but I guess even they have some questionable individuals as you have proven here.

Its more then just a type of pvp WvW is more of group vs group with the ability to changes the environment that the groups play in.
I play too much WvW lol i know that it takes time for ppl to try new things out to play with the WvW system. I just know FA is good on the tactic side of things and i know some very good commanders from BT i am just hoping a few members are not making it seem as if there guild is not able to adapted to the new tools in wvw. I am trying to preserve BT name and FA name as a WvW power.

That the big thing i want to point out this update has not been with us for long we should give it a try more then all this flawed info and video pic etc.. 5 days is not going to tell you what you can do to counter play AC nor it will not tell you how to use them to the best.

First off, you need to worry about yourself and your guild only. BT, and myself, are in WvW every single night. No I don’t speak for the entire guild of BT, but i talk and listen to these guys nightly so I know the general consensus. You know little to nothing about the guild, and apparently the Fort Aspenwood community as well. FA plays for the great fights first and foremost. We play the meta to the point that we remain in T2 which has given us the best fights of any tier. Do you even participate in the community forums?

Second, we have already adjusted to the arrow cart change, it doesn’t take weeks to do if you WvW daily, which i doubt you do with the statements you have brought to this thread. The adjustment involves building many trebs and arrow carts in order to take out the ridiculous amount of trebs and arrow carts the enemy puts up for defense. It takes an excruciating amount of time to take the siege out and all the while both defenders and attackers stand around until one side wins siege wars 2. It is incredibly boring when you have to siege for hours just to get the enemy out of their keeps and off their arrow carts.

Don’t you guys see it? Anet’s slowly trying to shift WvW from Zergdomination to a population spread out on the map with cumulative small changes. I guess QQers will stay QQers.

So people are supposed to spread out and sit in every objective and just wait for it to be attacked? And once its attacked you don’t pvp you just jump on an ac and watch them melt. That’s not fun.

If they want to keep the timer then it should be as follows:
30 seconds on keep contests
15 seconds on tower contests
0 seconds on camp contests

No, but if you force doesnt consist of one massive blob, then the reaction is way smaller since your travel time is also smaller. If WvW consisted of multiple smaller battles over the map instead of 1-2 or 3 Wxp trains, then the 30second on camp flag wouldnt even be a bother.

If someone is at the camp scouting or you are fighting within visual range of the camp being attacked then yeah you will be able to defend it. But since 5 people can cap a camp in 30 seconds, If you can’t see the camp, the camp is flipped before u even know its attacked and you have to wait 5 minutes for the buff to go.

I agree on spreading people out on the maps and making smaller group play more viable, but these changes just don’t cut it for me. The timers make defense of objectives harder unless you have people sitting there with nothing to do until it is attacked. ACs buff makes it easier for people to just sit behind walls and farm xp and loot without ever having to pvp. That’s how I see these things.

Don’t you guys see it? Anet’s slowly trying to shift WvW from Zergdomination to a population spread out on the map with cumulative small changes. I guess QQers will stay QQers.

So people are supposed to spread out and sit in every objective and just wait for it to be attacked? And once its attacked you don’t pvp you just jump on an ac and watch them melt. That’s not fun.

If they want to keep the timer then it should be as follows:
30 seconds on keep contests
15 seconds on tower contests
0 seconds on camp contests

It’s still a start and is part of a bigger picture. I seriously think Anet’s heading in the right direction.

You are entitled to your opinion. IMO This hurts PvP combat by giving people the easy route of hiding in towers and keeps with 10+ arrowcarts. Why fight an enemy group of players when you can just run back to your tower and get on arrowcarts?

Have enjoyed this match up very much. Good fights DB, nice to have quality opponents to fight each and every night.
