Renown Hearts at Lake Doric

Agreed 100%.

Plus, I find some of the hearts very unintuitive. I was doing the first Renown Heart in Doric’s Landing with two friends of mine. There were these boxes everywhere, so we picked them up, but then we were completely clueless about what to do with them. Give them to the Heart guy? No… Give them to the guards around there? No… Okay, let’s read the heart’s description… Not helpful either.
Same with the weird seafood and pearls we got from the small cages at another Renown Heart. We had all this stuff in our inventories, but couldn’t find anyone to give it to, even after reading the item’s description. So we just did something else.

I’ve done 100% map completion “only” nine times, but I feel like the ones in Lake Doric are the worst designed Renown Hearts in the whole game.

How are minis next to a bank more annoying than NPCs repeating the same lines over and over again?

True, but the ones that do look and send me the whisper “you look so cool! What is that?” Makes me happy. And it’s not that I have something rare, it’s I was able to combine well to design a look

Exactly this! Create some awesome individual looks, that’s how you can really get other players attention. Nobody will take a screenshot of a Norn wearing a legendary PvP-backpiece, snowflake shoulders and Twilight. That’s something you see a thousand times every day. Rare skins do not make you important.

Too many rewards in game now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AzureSky.3175

Now lets look at ultra rare rewards that are being reintroduced to the game. Ghastly Grinning Shield, once the pinnacle status symbol of skins, lost a lot of it’s value.

The problem is that it never was the pinnacle status symbol of skins, but more like the pinnacle status symbol of investments. This became brutally obvious earlier this year, when loads of them were dumped on the TP. Investors suddenly got scared and decided to stay away from this item. (Almost) nobody knew yet that they’d be added to MF drop tables, so one would’ve expected that everyone who wanted this skin so badly but never could afford it would suddenly see the chance of their lifes and buy it comparatively cheap! However, exactly this did not happen. Now that the investors were gone, the demand for the actual skin was so low that prices never recovered even the slightest bit. There just weren’t enough people who really wanted this skin to begin with, it just wasn’t that popular. The skins true value probably always was around 200g, TP prices were just awfully inflated by flippers and hoarders.

The item is a skin though, and Anet introduced it so it is used as a skin. So all that Anet did now was giving people a chance to buy a skin for its skin’s value, nor for an artificial investment value.

And again… a testament of Anet pandering to the vocal minority of the whiny forums…

Did it ever occur to you that you might be part of the actual vocal minority of the whiny forums? Halloween skins are back, and everyone seems to either be happy with it or just don’t care – except for a vocal minority here in the whiny forums.

particularly in this case they have lost my SUBSTANTIAL financial support via the gem store… hope they are happy pleasing the $5 a month spending casuals…

Wow, I’m sure the Anet employees will have so many sleepless nights now that you’ve stopped buying gems. If they want this game to continue to exist, they should really base all their decisions only around your opinion.

SAB was always meant to return… they just broke it in an update… Nullifying point one of yours

SAB skins were originally not intended to return. That’s why the second SAB release featured a completely different set of blue weapons than the first one. Nevertheless they decided to bring back all of them this year, contrary to their former decision, and that’s a good thing!

Anet pandering to the vocal minority will ruin this game…

I really wonder why you think that Anet does not know that there’s only a vocal minority on the forums. By the way, the people that wanted the Halloween skins back were a really small minority within this minority. Do you think Anet cared that much about their opinions?
No, they don’t. They just thought it’d be nice to make the skins more available again! And that’s okay!

The TP prices stopped to represent the demand of people who want to use this skin long ago. The prices were artificially inflated by hoarders and flippers – their actual value became visible again earlier this year, when prices suddenly started to crash. It crashed because there was so much supply left, but demand by people who wanted them for their skin and not for flipping was really really low.
Prices didn’t fall that badly since then, so the mystic forge itself didn’t even affect them that much. These skins actual uninflated value just wasn’t that high to begin with, and Anet just made them available again for uninflated prices.

and yet none of them ever have any kind of counter argument to my FACT about what the banner said in the gem store at the end of the first Halloween…

They’re back! Why do we still need a counter argument?

Back then they decided that these skins should be gone forever. Many months later they probably felt like their previous decision was wrong, and decided to bring them back instead. They basically admit that they made a mistake back then and want to go another way now, and admitting mistakes is actually something that I respect a lot.

They probably underestimated how difficult it is to make predictions for a time span as long as “forever”.

Let’s be honest, this is what happenes when you meet a player wearing a lot of expensive skins:
You run past them in Lion’s Arch, you eat a nacho, and three seconds later you’ve officially forgotten that you ever even met said person.
Grow up, guys.

What does catch my eye from time to time though is players that mix different skins to create some really cool individual looks. It doesn’t take expensive skins to do that, you just need a good sense of composition and some creativity. And these are the players that make me stop to look at them, sometimes I even take a screenshot (;

I don’t think everyone should get every skin for free, working towards certain skins can actually feel very rewarding. But there’s no need for skins to be completely unobtainable or unreasonably expensive. Nevertheless, Anet should still keep at least some of them exclusive or really expensive, otherwise the lil’ kids won’t know what to wear.

So let’s imagine that you had crafted 15-20 legendary weapons, most of the money spent from your credit card, real life money because you didn’t liked to grind/didn’t had the time for it, and felt it was nice to support a game you liked.
Then all of a sudden Anet decide that legendaries now can be bought for 1 gold each from a vendor. How would that make you feel?
I guess my cost so far are between 15-20 legendaries in decoations.

I would just accept it and move on! Of course I’d feel like “kitten, I would’ve just waited crafting this stuff had I known beforehand that they’d reduce the costs!”, but in no way would I ever feel that I deserve to be compensated!
I crafted stuff for thousands of gold because it was worth it to me.

Anyway, it seems like some sort of compensation is on its way, and I think that’s a really nice and good move of ANet!
But if you feel like you were entitled to be compensated – you’re clearly wrong.

2 golds for daily is too much ! Its 730g/year

Minimum wage jobs are typically at places with low/non-existent profit margins that need lots of employees of any skill level rather than a few good employees. These places tend to be in agriculture (which every living person needs), manufacturing (which every living person uses), and retail (which every living person uses). Because the basic necessities of life are the things that wind up being more expensive, overall purchasing power is reduced.

This is all totally correct except for the last sentence. The requirement for low-income earners to not gain purchasing power from a minimum wage would be that all the things they ever buy are from non-profit companies that exclusively consist of minimum wage workers. Which is not reality. Minimum wages will never make prices rise at the same rate that low-income earners wages rise because of it.
What is true however is that everyone else’s purchasing power decreases in the process (since they don’t get any extra money to compensate for the higher prices). Increases and decreases even each other out, “overall purchasing power” is +-0 (it is not reduced). The low-income earners usually are in the minority though, so they will feel their increase in purchasing power stronger than everyone else feels their decrease in purchasing power.

But yeah, you’re right, we’re really a little off-topic :V

By subtracting $15 from the company’s income, you force them to raise prices.

Let’s say someone works for 10$/hour but now suddenly gets paid a minimum wage of 15$/hour. His earnings have increased by 50%.
If everyone in all companies would earn 50% more money, the companies would need to make 50% more income to compensate and be forced to increase prices by 50%, so the people working at minimum wage basically wouldn’t gain anything.
But that’s not the case. Not everyone earns more, but only those working for minimum wage now, so the companies will never need to raise prices at the same rate that these people’s earnings increased. The raise in price if far, far lower, and thus people getting a minimum wage of 15$/hour do definitely get a net gain in purchasing power.
Your logic is off.

Economics will take over and prices will inflate if there is an overabundance of gold thrust into the system over time compared to prices. […] Kind of like raising minimum wage to $15/hour…. people who work at McDonalds thinks it’ll help them buy more stuff lol.

The minimum wage part of your post is pure bullkitten. These 15$ are not created out of thin air (like the 2g for dailies for example), they are substracted somewhere else from the companies income, so they don’t cause inflation at all. It’s just that a part of the wealth is shifted elsewhere.

No more new 5PlayerContent outside Fractals?

Yeah, that the story inside the fractals themselves feels kind of meaningless bugs me a lot. They’re just random unconnected mini-dungeons and I don’t get the feeling that what I do there has any impact on anything.

And this AR-stuff is just so… unnecessary. Why don’t we have “dungeon resistance” for high-level dungeons? “Raid resistance” for final raid wings? Or idk, Maguuma resistance for HoT-maps? We don’t have that because it’s dumb! So why is this stuff part of fractals? They should just remove AR completely and make high-level fractals harder in some other, creative way. Most of my friends never tried fractals higher than lvl20 because they’re basically just not interested in upgrading their equip with a stat that is only useful in one niche content part of the game.

Sorry for changing the topic title btw, I just wanted to give this thread a little more precise direction.

Is this really what the community wants?
Does Anet really think that fractals are the only future of group-content?

In my opinion the fractal instances themselves are good, it’s just the whole fractal system surrounding them that’s kittened up (AR and stuff). I’d love to see some new dungeons in the next expansion instead.

100 players have been on a holiday away of their pc during this Xmas period.
They all come back after the event and decide they want the shoulders, so they each buy 10k presents. This would take a million away of the existing offered supply in the TP.

So I think this will happen a lot and predict the price doubling in a month or two.

Those players won’t even be able to unlock the collection, because the required item cannot be bought anymore!
And even if they could, they’ll be unable to finish 60% of said collection, because all the achievements are gone.

lol yeah I know, I manage around 14-16 runs per match as well, that’s how I got to 120 (or 135 as of today).
Doing this for 80 hours would still be too monotonous and stupefying for me.

Do you really expect people to share their investment secrets with you ????

Won’t happen.
But common sense would suggest that the immense demand for wintersday alcohol will be same or increasing.
Opposite to that alcohol will not be available anymore.
It’s painfully obvious what that means for alcohol prices.

Alcohol prices will slowly fall during the next few days, reach an all-time high just before wintersday ends, and then drop to an all-time low and stay there until December ’16.

There’s almost no alcohol supply after Wintersday ends, and everyone knows that.
So everyone that really wants to have that skin will get their 10.000 drinks before Wintersday ends.
The people that aren’t sure if they can get it will save all their drinks until the end, and then either decide to buy the remaining drinks from TP before Wintersday ends, or sell all their drinks to make a ton of gold instead.
The people that do not want the skin will sell all their drinks anyway.
New people cannot even start the collection.
And even less people are interested in snowflakes during spring.

tl;dr There’s almost no demand for alcohol after Wintersday, prices will crash.

Example:
You are in Guild A and represent Guild A.
You want to leave Guild X.
You open the guild panel, you click the Guild X checkbox and the “Leave Guild” button afterwards.
The game will now ask you if you want to leave Guild A.

Of course this happens because you did not actually select Guild X, you just clicked its representation checkbox.
Anet could easily fix this by auto-selecting a guild if you click its checkbox.

Basic Scribing costs are nonsense

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

AzureSky.3175

Stable prices make for a dull game.

lol wtf, most of the playerbase don’t give a kitten whether prices are stable or changing. They play to have some fun with their friends in their spare time. They’ll sell most of their stuff for whatever prices there currently are, and buy most of their stuff for whatever prices there currently are. What would be bad about stable prices?

This is an adventure game and people like to chase good rewards. If all prices and rewards would be stable, there is nothing new to discover.

If a game has nothing new to discover just because prices and rewards are stable, then it’s clearly doing something wrong.

But an everchanging landscape of material prices makes sure that the most valuable ressources change every week and encourage you to play different content. I dont know why you want to change that .

If content is only encouraging when it can be farmed for mats, then there’s something wrong with this content as well.

I don’t give a kitten about stable or changing prices, I’m still having a blast playing gw2.

Nevertheless, I do not agree with the OP. Scribing costs are okay, if it’s too expensive for you right now, just wait a while until mats get cheaper, or just abandon it if you deem it not worth it’s costs. The problems only exist in your own mind.

Rare items are rare, and that's OK (2.0)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AzureSky.3175

AzureSky.3175

The low quantity and high demand from the player base is what makes them expensive on the TP. Actually it’s the low quantity available for sale on the TP.

Yeah, but the quantity isn’t low because precursors are rare, the quantity is low because precursors are expensive to craft!

Precursors have specific average crafting costs using the mystic forge.
If you’re a wealthy player and have a lot of money that you can spend, you can easily craft a bunch of precursors for some nice average profits, thus getting richer and richer.
You could rinse and repeat and flood the market with precursors, so quantity is not the problem here.
Why is this not happening?
Precursors are one of the slower markets, it might take a day or two to sell yours. If more and more people started to craft pres and spread them on TP, prices would drop further and further. The crafting costs on the other hand would rise because there’s more and more demand as more people start crafting more pres. You would then reach a point at which precursors are so cheap, that they’re worth less than their average crafting costs. At this point, people would make an average loss by trying to craft pres for the TP, so most people would just stop crafting precursors. Supply would slowly decrease again, prices slowly climb, crafting costs would decrease and some people would start crafting again.
The precursor price will not fall past a certain margin in the long run – not because they’re rare, but because they’re expensive to craft.

This is of course only true for precursors with high demand.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AzureSky.3175

Precursors are not rare.
They’re expensive.
That’s a huge difference.

Using the Mystic Forge, everyone will statistically get a precursor after throwing in a certain amount of items. If you’ve got the resources, you can generate a pre every few hours. That’s not rare. You just need a high amount of resources.
Same thing applies to Nightfury.

An item is either rare if it takes a lot of time to get it, which cannot be sped up past a certain point (Tequatl weapons), or if there’s only a fixed number of items spread throughout the world that does not increase anymore (2012 Halloween weapons).

As demonbreak said, for Peer Review, the first page of the journal is at the bottom of the stairs where Rytlock waits for you (and it doesn’t become interactive until you have talked to your team about proceeding). For the smiths, you do have to find and revive Beigarth first. It’s possible that this is indeed broken…I’ll make a note to look into it first thing on Monday when I’m back in the office.

Thanks for the response! (:
I actually know all of this!
It definitely is broken, that’s why I started this thread.

I restarted the instance several times and tried many different things.
I definitely talked to my team about proceeding, I follow them up the stairs but I still cannot interact with the Journal Page.
I also know Beigarth’s exact location, but he simply does not spawn. I follow my group, kill all the mordrem in the cave, but he is definitely not there.

Feel free to PM me if you want to log in to my account to see it with your own eyes :D

Some of you guys clearly have no idea what they’re talking about.
This isn’t about high/low settings or huge events with a massive amount of players.

I play GW2 on autodetected settings, which sets everything to “high” but nothing to “highest”, it also unchecks the high-res character textures checkbox.
I cannot remember even a single client crash during the 2 1/2 years I’ve been playing.

HoT releases – and suddenly the client crashes about once per day. And it does not crash during big events, the crashes appear to be completely random. First time this happened I was walking down an empty road in Verdant Brink! Another time in our Guild Hall with only eight players in it, another time in Lion’s Arch. I don’t even remember when most of the crashes happened, because there is no visible pattern to them. It once crashed while fighting the Wyvern Matriarch, but on the other hand I’ve completed a lot of events involving many more players without any issues.

At two times the portrait of one of my group members didn’t really load when he entered my map, there was just a blue dummy asura without any textures for me to be seen. The game then keeps on running for about a minute, and then it suddenly crashes.

It is a fact that these crashes did not happen before HoT, and that they seem to be unrelated to graphic settings and large-scale events.

“Server time” isn’t anything special, it’s simply UTC. So if you’re from america, the time is always ahead of your local time. It’s already the 31st over here in europe, so the “server date” would be the 31st October.

I’m also affected by these crashes, a huge part of the playerbase is.

Seriously though, do you really think that Anet just shrugs this off and does nothing?
If they had already found a way to fix the crashes – then they would’ve done so!
But it’s apparently not as easy as that.
Btw, the people searching for the causes of these crashes are probably not the same people that are responsible for balancing and stuff. Balancing can be done alongside bugfixes, so if there are balancing updates, that does not indicate that no one is fixing bugs.

If you think the crashes must be easy to fix, try finding out what causes the crashes yourself and send a mail to Anet.
These QQ forum threads do not help anyone.

But this would devalue all the mats to the point that they will be no demand for them on the tp and they will be traded for vendor value +15%.

It’s actually vendor value +17,65%. This is of course not really relevant and I fully agree with what you were saying. It just hurt my eyes a little and I couldn’t resist but to correct it.

Alright, glad to hear that at least I’m not the only one :D

I just hope that this thread get’s some attention from the devs. It’s hard to tell which of the many bugs they already have on their list of things that need a fix, since their responses to these threads are pretty scarce and random. Haven’t seen them mention this bug anywhere.

Did anyone try joining someone else’s instance to do the achievements? Maybe that’s a workaround… but I haven’t tested it yet!
