Crafting the newer Legendaries

Once I got past the Fractal requirements (which ended up being not so bad as I just did the ones I needed when they popped up as dailies) the only collection I truly hated was the second one. The fourth one looks incredibly overwhelming, but many steps are no more involved than waypointing, running to a POI, and interacting with a thing. I did the entire collection in about 5 hours total, using map timers and the GW2 wiki to clarify what each objective actually entailed.

never ever spend real world money on this game after the buying the game

Why not?

I’m at a point in my life where I find it more comfortable to buy gems with cash rather than spend time in-game farming for gold to convert to gems. And it supports the game that I spend my time in. I’m a one-game-at-a-time kinda guy, and $25 now and then makes the hours of enjoyment I get out of the game well worth the investment.

I see absolutely no reason not to buy gems with cash.

Don’t listen to him. If people didn’t buy gems with cash then Anet would either have to drastically scale back on their update schedules and/or make changes to the gem store model that would not be terribly popular (think blatantly p2w content and revoking the ability to purchase gems with gold).

Like, how can you be so into MMOs that you are planning your life around them yet not realize that planning your life around an MMO on patch day is a terrible kittening idea?

Anet doesn’t owe you anything. A planned release date for a patch is not a binding contract, and there is nothing held within the update that will be lessened because you get it tomorrow and not today.

They worked on expansions while adding hair options, Goldfox

@ThomasC A whole texture on a wire model could be an explanation, it seems to work that way in SWTOR as well. But then that should be changed. It’s really a big grief for me, I want my character to be as customizable as possible.

But they already have a system in place for hair to be changed out between head models. Updating brows for such customization is probably impossible at this point, short of basically adding a ton of duplicate templates with various eyebrow selections.

Because the feline familiar wasn’t in the bags- it was gemstore only. There was speculation before it was released that it might be a drop from the bags, so people were opening the bags in anticipation.

Now, Zuzu, Cat of Darkness was a ToT bag drop, and she’s not been available from the gemstore.

I am curious to know if you’re serious, or just joking about. Bifrost is in no way serious. It’s been renamed by MANY as the “rainbow d*ldo”

and tho frostfang can be taken a little more serious than others its still a gag gift type of weapon. But if thats the only two you choose to compare from then, you must see some kind of pattern there. If its not anets intentions on making it that way, they’ve done a bad job on trying to prove otherwise. Whether thats the case or not, the fact of the matter is, the legendarys that are out right now are, in fact, silly or serious and if it has a HoT alternative it is the opposite as far as being serious or silly. But i suppose we’ll just have to see, but let me say if the new ledgendary dagger comes out and its a quaggin squirting water out of its bum at lightspeed, i believe i’ll have proven my point.

I mean, some people might call Bifrost a rainbow kitten, but that’s their lack of maturity/creativity and not the actual design of the weapon, which is rooted in actual Norse mythology.

Also, this just in, there is no way to satisfy everyone. Taste is hugely subjective, and legendaries require enough time and enthusiasm that it behooves Anet to cast a wide net with their designs in the hopes that, in the end, there’s something to appeal to just about everyone.

I’ve always held that wanting skins tied to one off events to remain unobtainable is selfish- there’s a wide variety of reasons why people miss out on certain events over the lifetime of a game, and it stikes me as being incredibly petty to want to withhold things from them for what was, in some case, personal misfortune.

That being said, I do agree that any re-released skins should have similar time/effort requirements as the originals. I find that the journey is usually the best part of it, anyway.

“Excuse me, I know there are dragons to kill but I’m going to spend a lot of time and money to get a Quaggen in a Bowl toy for myself.”

As I said, I don’t have a problem with this type of item just that it is a Legendary Weapon.

I’d argue that stopping to spend a lot of time and money on any legendary, or even ascended gear, is bad optics for the Pact Commander. I mean, assuming that the story timeline is, like, two weeks.

Fortunately for us, we can travel back and forth through time between pre-Zhaitan zones and post-Mordremoth zones, so time really isn’t too much of an issue at this point.

It’s a pretty safe assumption that you’ll need lots and lots of HoT map currencies, mithril, elder wood, and the T6 mats for the various gifts. There might be some T5/T6 leather required, so start hoarding that just in case.

I hope that someone from Anet sees this and/or passes it onto the team. We might actually get the Three-Skritt-in-a-Trenchcoat greatsword, and GW2 will cement itself in my mind as the greatest game every made.

Also, and again, there are people who wanted a quaggan themed weapon, and shield is a relatively safe weapon to make “silly”, because it’s not as widely used as other weapons and the existing shield legendary is incredibly understated/lore relevant.

I have never been a fan of shields in any game, so when I feel like I have to equip them, I tend to favor the less traditional ones (SAB and Lovestruck are my faves). For me, Quaggan Shield is absolutely perfect.

Now I have to decide if making a legendary for a weapon that I only use on two alts is worth the time and effort.

@Felahr: You are being ridiculously overdramatic. Just because you find the shield’s theme to be silly doesn’t mean that it’s “ruining” the idea of legendaries. If you think a collection of weapons that includes a glorified pop gun, a rainbow unicorn spewing toy bow, and an actual disco ball hasn’t already shown its hand as being for a wide range of players, then you haven’t been paying very much attention.

Does the tarir event in AB need tweaking.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Batelle.1680

Yeah, it’s an issue. If given the option, most players are going to flock to where they can do the least and still get credit for participation. In some cases, it’s not a huge issue as long as there’s coverage where there needs to be, but even if you do have people at West and North, East being overmanned can cause the event to fail.

I think there should be a balance pass done to equalize each side. It doesn’t really make sense to me that one side doesn’t even need armors, while others are doomed without. Never mind the other small issues that can cause issues (South needs more overall coordination, North has tendrils to deal with in addition to the slime layers, and the mushrooms at West are absolute magnets for Stompers).

I think it’s a combination of Nightfury and the fact that the economy dude has pretty much said he’s not doing anything to fix it because it’s not an issue of demand outstripping supply, but players hoarding supply. However, rather than making players who are hoarding it want to sell off their stock, the whole “not going to fix either the drop rates or reassure players that hardened leather won’t be required in new recipes” approach has had the opposite effect because, as it turns out, most players hoard it because it’s required in a bunch of stuff and is doled out quite stingily by rngesus.

Seriously? Kudzu had a major update not too long ago, and the bow string updated…last month? It has obvious, long-lasting footfalls, a flashy equip effect, and persistent arm effects when in use. I notice when people have Kudzu far more than any of the HoT legendaries, and I’m on high alert for Nevermore and Astralaria.

I really wish people would stop demanding changes to legendaries per their own tastes, especially since you have ample opportunity to preview the weapon online and in game before you commit to making it. For every person who wants Kudzu to be bigger and flashier, there’s a player who made it because they love it as is, and I don’t think drastic changes are fair to them.

Tonight we had a reset because West (West) ~magically~ burned from 50% to nothing in a single phase, and during the reburn a couple of people at North were blatantly stripping the Octovine of slime and trying to burn before South was ready. Just increase the kitten population per map. It’s ridiculous how fast they fill up. Compare it to WoW where you have hundreds and thousands of players in the same instance and then look @GW2 where the servers are full with 100-200 people. It’s kitten ridiculous in 2016.

I don’t thing the engine is optimized enough to allow this without completely destroying itself and our computers in the process. Never mind how trivialized the actual events would be with three or four times as many people doing them.

I would rather they deal with TD’s specific issues, as mentioned above. The map itself needs to be more appealing and more rewarding, and the meta needs some leeway so that it’s not so sudden death.

clock tower & mad king chests question..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I do the clock tower every year, cause I like to prove to myself I’m still capable of doing it.

I remember in previous years getting a mad king armor piece. This year, I got 5 ToT bags. No exotic, no nothing.

If you haven’t done it since yesterday’s hotfix that removed DR from the Labyrinth, finish the puzzle again. You should get ~20 ToT bags and a Chest of the Mad King that lets you pick a reward, kind of like the chests at the end of HoT meta events.

My guess is that it’s a one time reward, as I’ve beat the tower with several characters over two resets and have only gotten the chest once.

While they’re at it, I’d also like to request fixing the armors in Dragon’s Stand so that they actually heal the player, as per the tooltip (and the AB armors).

Removing armor weight restrictions (Revised)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Batelle.1680

Batelle.1680

Expanding on BrotherBelial’s post- you can see the issue if you just look at how medium armor is “split” compared to light and heavy. Light armor and heavy armor chest pieces rarely go below the waist- any kind of “skirt” is contained in the leg pieces. Medium armor, as we all know, is the opposite. The tops are long, to better trench coat, and the legs are mostly skin-tight leggings with a few straight skirts for variety. There would only be a handful of medium chests that would work as is, and it would be pretty much impossible to convert any of the trenchy options in a way that would make sense (half a trench coat really doesn’t work).

what effort does this cost them?

Commanders of mm’s have to ensure that they don’t lose maps, and that players are in the right maps/using the lobby correctly. Good ones also monitor the meta in process to ensure success in as many maps as possible. If you don’t like or disapprove of multi-map squads in general, it’s obviously not something you care about. However, it is nonetheless time-consuming for the commander and worth it to the participants of the squad.

But, again, you’re not necessarily paying them for their effort. You’re paying a premium for efficiency.

Diminishing Returns in Lab

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Batelle.1680

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Diminishing_returns going by that its not time on map activated but amount of foes killed – so in laby in big zerg you will in theory get DR faster than farming elsewhere .
“The more often a character loots from similar foes within an area, the more quickly DR triggers.”
This does seem to explain why ppl are reporting dr in laby with diff times – maybe some are in a smaller zerg and others in a big zerg.
Anet knows its something we cant circumnavigate and get around ( eg bypass ) and I wish one of the staff would state the exact conditions for DR – blowing the secret wont make any difference to players but it would make things eabetter and avoid confusion ( and players arguing who is right/wrong ) – like knowing sitting in la for hrs wont change dr or doing some events elsewhere for xxx time will remove DR

I think character build is also a consideration- I hit DR way faster on my level 80 DH, who is in a mix of exotic and ascended gear than I do on my up-leveled thief who is in greens and maybe a few pieces of award-on-level gear. If you’re a more efficient tagger, you get more loot and you hit DR faster.

I think you’re grossly underestimating the amount of effort it takes to maintain a game, plus create new live content (not just the LS3 maps, but the smaller event chains and things they’ve added over the past few months) AND new content for an EP.

Plus, I think they’ve mentioned before that some of the season one stuff isn’t easy to bring up to the new code. I would give anything to have the PvP games from the first Halloween back, but it is what it is. I trust that they’re not withholding things from us because they’re mean or lazy.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

On the surface, one might think well whats wrong with making it easier for people to get what they want. Here is the issue, when everything becomes cheap and easy to get, players get bored because there is no desire or drive to do anything because there is no challenge and you feel as though you put no effort into achieving anything because you just rely on a broken mechanic to do anything.

Except ectos are hardly the only thing impacting what players do and do not have. There are still plenty of needful components that are costly and showing no signs of being made more accessible in the near future. Ectos being marginally cheaper doesn’t mean that everyone can save their way to an Eternity within a week- there are absolutely things in the game that require effort to obtain and faux concern over people getting bored because it’s all too ~easy~ doesn’t change that.

And they aren’t requiring gold to join the group. They’re saying that it’s the lobby group and you can pay 1 g to become a VIP. Whatever that means.

Being a VIP in this sense means you don’t have to use the lobby when you change maps. If all the maps are finished, you can theoretically cycle through all the maps while standing at one chest before moving to the next. You repeat this at every chest, and you only have to traverse through the undercity once, saving you time to move on to other things or to run alts through. Like you said, it’s not a requirement of any squad that I’ve seen, just a voluntary buy-in to either maximize loot or expedite the process.

Auric Basin Multimap: bad for economy

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Batelle.1680

Batelle.1680

I cannot comment on the effects on the economy of the game as I don’t have the data. However, it is one of the biggest reasons why I have started to feel frustrated. I no longer feel there is much point in playing other than completing the new stories.

The people who do this looting have no time to play with the rest of us. No matter what content is suggested the gold they earn from multiloot takes precedence. For example trying. to do guild missions alone is possible, but frustrating.

I am just one person, but perhaps I am not the only one who feels this is hurting the community.

I do a lot of things in the game, and there doesn’t seem to be any shortage of people anywhere I go.

The thing with multilooting is this- if Anet knows what’s happening, and they haven’t taken any action to nerf the way the Auric Basin meta functions (either by jacking up key prices, or reducing currency, or straight up removing the large chests) then why make it some kind of ethical issue? If you don’t want to do it because it’s tedious or whatever, that’s cool. But if the only reason you would avoid it is because you’ve convinced yourself that it’s renegade points all the way down, and you’re somehow preserving a sense of mmo-ideological purity, then that’s your choice. Nobody is preventing you from participating, and it’s frankly not fair to cast blame at players who have figured out a totally legit given the developer implemented mechanics and drops available to them from the game way to play the game.

I really don’t understand how somebody can put so much time and energy into making something like a legendary and not even bother to scope out what all they’ll need for it before committing.

Like, how? Why?

Also, there are so many more MPs available in HOT + LS3 maps than are necessary to max all the lines, you don’t need to get gold in all of the mini games or do the story cheevos. When I was getting frustrated by not having enough MPs, I took a hard look at the achievements that gave MPs and some of them were ludicrously easy to get. Tangled Depths has at least two (stealth gliding past some mordrem and using ley-line gliding to get to a mastery point), Auric Basin gives you a MP for finding and hitting a mushroom king once. There are MPs for lock boxes, defeating bosses, and doing a series of events that you can knock out in less than an hour. Check out your Achievement tab and see what easy kitten you might be missing.

Or you could, you know, throw away what was no doubt countless hours of effort just before you stroll across the finish line. That’s totally reasonable.

I thought instead of an aura like the Gen 1s had, they gave you like a “sleeve” effect. I remember seeing it for the axe and pistol. Does the staff not have one?

It does- it’s black feathers. Hard to see under some circumstances, but pretty cool when it’s visible.

I tend to think that the scaled-down effects are purposeful, and that Anet assumed players would do some research before committing so much time and gold towards making them. Each individual legendary isn’t designed to appeal to all players, and Anet knows that there are some players who love over-the-top particle effects/auras/footfalls while others prefer interesting design without all the flashy bits. Since the effects of each legendary are documented in wikis and youtube videos, never mind the fact of them existing in the game on other players, there’s really no reason for a player to not know exactly what they’re getting.

Bump. I just bought the expansion yesterday. This is ALREADY something I do not like at all. I found multiple hero points where a champion has to be defeated. Sorry, but I’m a casual player. I CAN’T beat a Champion by myself – not even close. In my case there was even another person standing there watching me die. HOW, exactly, is a new player supposed to beat those when no one is around to help out (especially in the first zone, since that zone is considered “old” now)?

I am sorry, but since when casual players are immune to grouping with other players or asking for help in map chat? Today I fully unlocked my elite spec from start to finish for few hours roaming around VB and AB. If there wasn’t people around to help for the hardest HPs I simply asked in map chat for help, if no one showed I switched maps and repeated the process. Eventually you will find people to help out. I dont understand why so many people are opose to group with others in MMO game? Why? This is the very essence of multiplayer games… to seek other players and overcome challenges together. I will never understand why somone comes here and posts into such topics instead of spending some time to actually try and learn the ways of the maps, the mechanics those champions uses and how to most effectively deal with them. Why do you expect to get everything, without putting atleast a sliver of effort in the process?

Some people think it’s patently ridiculous to have to beg in mapchat for other people to help them complete their own personal player goals. Why should my character’s progression hinge on other players being around and willing to help me?

AN ENTIRE MAP AND I HAVE TO WAIT 30 MINUTES JUST TO PLAY IN IT? dumbest map ever imo…can’t do anything without the event and you can’t play the event if you don’t wait cause its always COMPLETELY FULLLLLLLLL 24/7 as soon as the even is near.

HoT was 3 maps as far as im concerned….idk wtf dragon stand was meant to be but its a failure. Its like making me wait 30 minutes to play a fractal……or making me wait 30 minutes to join ANY wvsw map……or making me wait 30 minutes to join EoTM….or making me wait 30 minutes…..like wtf if you have to wait 30 minutes to play solo pve content something is really really wrong.

You can usually get in about ten minutes before the meta starts with absolutely no problems. So, no. You don’t have to wait 30 minutes for a map.

And I’d argue that Dragon’s Stand isn’t solo pve content- it’s more like an open world raid in that it requires numbers, communication, and tactics in order to succeed.

Cannot get into Briarthorn Den.

Same issue- no matter how many times I try, it won’t grant my toon the disguise, so he can’t enter the den to do the heart/get the poi/complete the hero challenge.

It might not matter, but just in case- my toon is a sylvari.

I’m on the other side of the fence- I’m totally okay with the new collections, and am bummed that it’s not retroactive. The lore is cool, but I hate that it requires us to do fractals, even the “easy” ones. I would gladly grind HoT maps for a few more months if it meant not having to deal with them.
