Why don't we have guild halls?

Belidos.3704

Doesn’t make sense to me. It’s a great game, sure. It’s odd how little this company let’s the community in on ideas in the development pipeline, definitely. But why no guild halls? I wondered it at launch and it just doesn’t make sense.

WTS Mistakes with Chinese Players

If you go to the link and scroll down to the Chinese teams listed, you will see they have put the wrong classes in.

On the web page they have Red as a thief and Elf as an Engineer, it’s the other way round, Red is an Engineer and Elf is a thief etc. according to the OP.

My i5 3570k desktop processor overclocked, to 4.5 Ghz, sees ~30-40 FPS@ 1080p resolution in wvw or larger scale player events (CPU bottlenek) on med video settings with a more powerful video card.

Ouch! That’s not good, I have an un-clocked 3570 and I’m getting 50 to 60 fps regular with drops to 30 to 40 fps in really busy areas on pretty high settings (with shadows and AA turned off) at 1080p, on medium settings I can get +50 fps in WvW.

This one is for a dev response

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belidos.3704

Belidos.3704

welp I guess you guys were right, its not worthy of a dev response. Ill find another way! ty everyone

It’s not a case of not being worthy, it’s Thanksgiving weekend (I think??) and they are prob on a brief break between heavy workloads, so aren’t checking the forums as much.

That and Devs rarely respond to posts title “dev response”, the forum is not their primary method of contact between the players and the Devs (it wouldn’t be the devs you need to talk to anyway as they don’t make these kinds of decisions) and posts titled in that way are usually trolls or highly opinionated posts.

If you really want to speak to Anet about this then you need to use their primary method of contact, the support ticket system as you will very rarely get a response here.

Why did ANet name a profession "thief"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belidos.3704

Belidos.3704

Because the class thief has always traditionally been a profession in the RPG genre, dating way back to early fantasy novels and early table top role playing game such as D&D, A-Net decided to take a traditional path when they chose the professions for this game.

Ingame GMs, do they exist?

in WvW

Posted by: Belidos.3704

Belidos.3704

That we cant speak with GM or pm then I understand and think is ok, but would be good if a map wide report came when a GM ban a player, like Player xxx banned 2weeks for flying, for all 3 servers on the map.

They can’t do that because it breeches various data protection laws in some countries, naming and shaming even if done by the GM’s is a very sensitive subject that is quite strictly bound by many different laws in many different countries and they have to walk a very fine line whith it.

Mounts [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belidos.3704

Belidos.3704

We’ve been told over and over that we will not be getting mounts that increase our speed, that’s why the other threads have been closed, it’s not needed because the game world is too small, waypoints are more effective and the way the game performs will be reduced by the extra speed. I’d just give up already.

Belidos.3704

Hmn, might be just because I know how to play the game better now and where everything is, but I levelled two characters before the changes and a third after the changes and in my opinion levelling was multiple times faster than it was before for me. Not sure what my map completion for that character is, but it’s not even close to 50% iirc, i’ll have to check tonight and report back.

Who came up with the "taxi" term?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belidos.3704

Belidos.3704

Taxi:
1907, shortening of taximeter cab (introduced in London in March 1907), from taximeter “automatic meter to record the distance and fare” (1898), from French taximètre, from German Taxameter (1890), coined from Medieval Latin taxa “tax, charge.”
An earlier English form was taxameter (1894), used in horse-drawn cabs. Taxi dancer “woman whose services may be hired at a dance hall” is recorded from 1930. Taxi squad in U.S. football is 1966, said to be from a former Cleveland Browns owner who gave his reserves jobs with his taxicab company to keep them paid and available [“Dictionary of American Slang”], but other explanations (“short-term hire” or “shuttling back and forth” from the main team) seem possible.

The more you know :P

I’m pretty sure the OP meant in relation to gaming and more specifically mmo’s, but nice bit of info anyway :p

Who came up with the "taxi" term?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belidos.3704

Belidos.3704

It’s a term that has been around since the start of online gaming, I first came across it in UO in reference to a high skilled player escorting one or more lower skilled players through dangerous areas in the game. It was also used to describe the mini wscort quests you got from nobles in UO.

Rangers and rifles are synonymous.

in Ranger

Belidos.3704

Wrong type of Ranger, US military Rangers are named after traditional Rangers but aren’t the type of Ranger RPG classes are representing, traditionally Rangers (circa 1400’s) were an armed militia that “range” over a larger region enforcing the law, they wore light armour and were traditionally a mix of woodsman and archer, this is the type of Ranger RPG’s reference.

New Weapon Skill Unlock Is Ridiculous

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Belidos.3704

Weapon skill 5 is unlocked at level 10, not 13. Level 10 is reached faster than before the NPE changes. It took me about two hours, and I was told I was really slow, that others were taking about an hour to get to level 10. You are very easily put off.

It can be done in 15 minutes if you know how

When did the dictionary definition of everybody change to “I don’t like something so everyone must hate it”? I think I missed that one.

What you see here is a handful of posts from no more than a couple of dozen people out of hundreds of thousands that pay the game. Hardly a majority and definitely not “everyone”.

Restrict forum access to active accounts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belidos.3704

Belidos.3704

After all the critique which quite often involves people that have outright claimed that they haven’t played for months or even have the game installed I was thinking about the question in the title.

Would it be possible to only allow active accounts (such as having been logged on the last x days/week) to write on the forums? Everyone would still be able to read of course, but I have a feeling it might create a better environment for everyone here if you actually had to actively play the game in order to join in on the discussions.

As seen with the NPE change there were massive amounts of hatred posted, quite much of it from people that didn’t even try it before (either due to not wanting to start over or due to not actually playing anymore).

Any thoughts about this?

(Oh I know people will hate this thread, if only on principle because I created it, but thought it was worth a shot to see what people thought about it.)

If I remember right this game is buy to play, all including with my initial purchase.

They can give warnings and bans for abuse, but logging into the game itself has nothing to do with the fact I paid for this game.

That would only apply to the game itself, it does not cover blog or forum access, these are completely separate from the game and supplied free, if they wanted to they could run the game without forums and nobody would have any claim.

As to my opinion on the OP, if this were any other MMO forum I would agree that it needs restrictions, but compared to other MMO forums this is the most polite and tame forum I frequent, it’s to be fair quite a credit to our community and it really does not need restricting.

You just can’t win, if you do one off events and change them the next year people whine that they missed it last year and want it back so they can experience it, if you repeat an event people complain that it’s not new.

Belidos.3704

I’m not sure if this is the same issue, but I’ve been experiencing some lag freezes over the last couple of weeks, they’re not big and haven’t effected my gameplay much but they’re there.

•*Your location*
Hertfordshire, UK

•*Time and date of incident (plus time zone)*
I can’t recall specifics, but it’s been most nights that I play, I usually play week nights between 7pm and 10pm UK time and it happens randomly once or twice in each session

•*Game World*
Far Shiver Peaks

•*Brief description of what you’re seeing*
Randomly once or twice per night I will be playing normally (usually while in combat or just finishing combat) and the action will freeze, npc’s will stop attacking and other players look like they’re running against walls etc, I can move around normally, I can use chat normally and my pet seems to continue attacking normally, but none of my toolbar abilities will fire. This lasts just a couple of seconds and when it clears a large chunk of health is gone from either myself or the mob I’m fighting and any abilities I’ve tried to use go into their cool downs as if it’s catching up suddenly, so far I haven’t died to this fortunately.

What does "blocked" mean?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belidos.3704

Belidos.3704

Still blocked and never received a message or notification of how long it is. It’s been three days since the ban. This is ridiculous.

According to the date stamp on the forum it’s been 2 days since you started this thread in which you stated “trying to sign in today”, so I would hazard a guess that it hasn’t been 3 days but only 2 and you have another day left.

I know you’re trying to be helpful which is great, but do you really think it is wise to be offering this kind of terminology to a player who is completely and admits openly to being overwhelmed?

It’s very unlikely that this has any meaning at all to somebody this new, heck, I’ve only been playing a month or two (although my account is a release account) and I personally have no idea what that string of numbers means at all, apart form it being something to do with traits.

No offence meant to you, you’re only trying to help, but it does grind my gears a bit when players of games offer help to new players in the form of game specific cyphers not thinking that it means almost nothing to them.

80 levels! really?

Belidos.3704

That used to be the case years ago when MMO’s were new and only had a limited number of levels. Modern MMO’s tend to have more levels with the “upgrades” spread out, most of them are every 10 levels or so. It’s usually done this way to make the levelling process longer and keep the player playing for longer.
